Living With Pebbles And Stones
Lithops or Living Stones growing profusely in the Succulent Garden. Photo credit: Jonathan Chua.
These are succulent plants that look like pebbles and rocks. Starting with just a few cuttings, they are now almost filling up their display area behind a glass screen.

36 DAYS OF TYPE - Archive - 2021 - J to L
For 2021, the theme I created for myself for 36 DAYS OF TYPE was plants (for the letters) and fungi (for the numbers). For the letters, the letter appears either as the first letter of the common name or the scientific name of the plant.
L is for Living Stones (Lithops) and check these little weird succulents out!

by Stan Gale | In Him we are precious, valued, chosen not because we are choice but because of His grace. We are enfolded into Christ’s church not to be admired as we might admire the beauty of the great cathedrals of Europe, but to serve. Peter identifies us as a holy priesthood, tasked with the responsibility and joy...

Francis and the Living Stone
As I rummaged around in past messages I prepared for the church, I came across this one from 2000 focusing on Francis of Assisi and building a church of “living stones.” My interest was heightened because I am reading a classic book about him: The Road to Assisi: The Essential Biography of St. Francis. I thought you might like to be reminded of him, too. In these days of strained community, he is…

You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may announce the praises of him“

Living Stones (1 Peter 2:4-10)
Peter, who was named “Rock” by the Lord himself, wanted his audience to know that they, too, are known by God as rocks, as precious living stones.
As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him—you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For in Scripture it says:
“See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be…

Lively Stones
Living Stones, an unusual pebble-like succulents in the Flower Dome. Photo credit: Eleanor Chua.
These succulents didn’t originally stand out this well. It came out this way after colours of the ‘stones’ were saturated and the surroundings were toned down and darkened a little in post.
