March 13 2022 Besalu Catalonia
We always go to such interesting places with Angie, Toni, and Iris! Even though Toni drives a big four-wheeler for Mercadona, a grocery store chain, full time, he still doesn’t mind driving us places like Besalu, where we went on an excursion together today.
According to Wikipedia:
“Besalú is a town in the comarca, or region, of Garrotxa, in Girona, Catalonia, Spain... The name Besalú is derived from the Latin Bisuldunum, meaning a fort on a mountain between two rivers.
The town's importance was greater in the early Middle Ages, as capital of the county of Besalú, whose territory was roughly the same size as the current comarca of Garrotxa but sometime extended as far as Corbières, Aude, in France. Wilfred the Hairy, credited with the unification of Catalonia, was Count of Besalú. The town was also the birthplace of Raimon Vidal, a medieval troubadour.
Besalú was designated as a historical national property in 1966. The town's most significant feature is its 12th-century Romanesque bridge over the Fluvià river, which features a gateway at its midpoint. The church of Sant Pere was consecrated in 1003. The town features arcaded streets and squares and also a restored mikveh, a ritual Jewish bath, dating from the eleventh or twelfth century, as well as the remains of a medieval synagogue, located in the lower town near the river. Besalú also hosts the Museum of miniatures created by jeweler and art collector Lluís Carreras.”
It was so much fun walking on the bridge into the village and walking around the village, through the ancient alleyways, and seeing all the well-preserved buildings.
There were arts and crafts in a lot of the shops and Bruce even found a toy sports car that reminded him of one he had when he was a boy!
We even played in a playground with Iris! After the tour we ate lunch at the restaurant at the entrance to the bridge and the food was quite good. The best part of the day, of course, was the companionship of our friends and learning things with them, which we all love to do, because we are history buffs!

Barcelona Art Orchestra - Ragtime Stories - ragtime interpreted by chamber orchestra
Lluc Casares, Joan Vidal, Néstor Giménez and Lluís Vidal, four of our most important arrangers and composers, took on the challenges currently facing the performing arts with this new and ambitious project BARCELONA ART ORCHESTRA whose first album is entitled Ragtime Stories.
Ragtime is the common denominator that ties together the eight pieces that make up this album. This timeless music is revisited with arrangements that range from the purely traditional to the avant garde. They serve as a showcase for the talent and versatility of the four composers/arrangers that lead this project.
BARCELONA ART ORCHESTRA is a stable formation made up of a large number of exceptional musicians featuring jazz instrumentation as well as classical and contemporary.
BAO embodies the will to explore different musical genres from a jazz perspective, in search of new relationships with other artistic disciplines such as theatre, danse, or poetry.
Ragtime Stories is possible thanks to the complicity of this group of musicians and composers who have consolidated this project with the release of this first album which will doubtlessly see BARCELONA ART ORCHESTRA become an important reference point for the current scene.

The first seed of the school was planted in November 1980 at the Sagarra School, in Can Roig i Torres, then the School of the Virgin of Lourdes and the local parish of Nou Nou with 169 students enrolled, until 1985 and with the coordination of M. Rosa Vidal. Already with its own building, located at 5 Rafael Casanova Street, director, Josep Lluís Guzmán, teaching staff with the appropriate qualifications, and the corresponding curriculum, the School aspires to be named Elementary Conservatory of Music, to teach regulated and to grant official degrees of elementary level, according to the norm in force at that time.

By Lluís Masriera i Rosés. He was born in Barcelona in 1872 to the famous painter Josep Masriera, who was also a well-known silversmith and, along with his brother Francesc Masriera, he ran the family jewelry business started by his father, José Masriera i Vidal. Lluís Masriera started in his family’s workshop and created pieces with the same aesthetic and precision that the workshop had always been known for; one which highlighted technical perfection but little creativity.

“Eclipse” is a music film that explores and questions human consciousness through the power of choice. Interpreted by Yao Dapre Nicol aka. Oulouy and musically sculpted with two tracks from electronic duo Weval, the film exposes a man’s evolution and personal growth towards awareness, offering a visual contrast between light and darkness, movement and paralysis, life or death.
