#Love and deepspace lore theory

Is the protagonist of Love & Deepspace, the character the gamers play as, is she actually the god Astra?!
Question?! Is the MC fully Astra with memory loss? Or is she just a part of Astra?! I am unclear which, however I am convinced that she is Astra in some way!
So, in the end only she has the ability to forgive Zayne, help Rafayel's people and restore Xavier's world and position!
Truly only with the power to control destiny itself, can you make three powerful men forget everything, duty, family, friends and loyalties to do the most irresponsible things.
I like how it's all working out as well, that all 3 storylines converge at the exact same place and time, yet separated just enough to help her to fulfill that one last thing she needs to do restore her memories. I suspect this is clearing 4 trails. A normal, an ice, fire and light, aka Orbits! She could do everything across three different timelines from the exact same place.
Yet, I am so curious as to what she is going to look like when she merges into or takes the form as Astra. Will we then be able to use our own created looks and pick our hair colors?! (We know now that the game supports that) I wonder how many creatio cores we need to get to unlock her new skills!
The fact that Zayne doesn't recognize her as Astra also lends to the fact that she could be able to change or manipulate her form or that she's in a completely different form from the true Astra at the moment.
We are told we would get new abilities right at the start of the game but I haven't seen any!
Why do I think this?! 1)MC has the power of Astra! One of the creatio protocore was placed inside her and she just absorbed it because it belonged to her. And Zayne clearly said that she could use that power to destroy Astra's plans, but then she just didn't do anything as he disappeared.
2) When she almost drowned with Rafayel she didn't question anything about that, she just carried on as if nothing had happened. She was supposed to think that Rafayel was weak, that he needed her protection, but she didn't really even question how he protected her when she was the one who was supposed to be protecting him.
In his back story, Rafayel didn't give a reason for giving up everything for a princess he hardly knew, he just starts sacrificing! She has the heart, or is this really the creatio protocore?
3) I don't think I even have to explain Xavier. Just all of the whole of Xavier's back story. You don't just abdicate because 'don't feel like it', then simply piece out off to another time and place in space leaving everyone and everything you've known forever behind. The whole thing doesn't flow naturally!
Anywhoo... theory! Astra is manipulating these three guys for some reason and using love (or rather obsession) to do it!
Can't wait to find out what she is up to.

After playing Love and Deepspace for a bit now, while going for a second play through this scene hits a lot harder after you learn the lore of the Lemurians and Rafayel specifically
Tumblr media
Let's talk lore and theories below, shall we~
Knowing that Raymond should have died by now, and that he WANTS Zayne to ask why (coupled with the Lemurian skeleton) is pretty much a dead giveaway that he's harvesting them for his longevity. He seems smug that he's done what Zayne and his fellow Doctors couldn't, and then almost taunts that Zayne is being held back by staying at Akso.
What I didn't catch the first time, however, was that he's keyed into the area Zayne is researching (the Tower or whatever it is currently) on Mt. Eternal.
As far as I know, Xander Sciences isn't a name we've heard again (correct me if I'm wrong, this is why I'm replaying the whole story again, so I can try and catch the things I didn't understand the first time), but we know someone is after Rafayel specifically and this is a pretty good lead already.
Tumblr media
The irony of it all though, is Raymond having the "cursed" painting that almost killed him.
Painted by whomst???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why our dear darling God of the Sea himself 🐠 like what a tasty little piece of revenge lol. I can't remember if this painting was specifically made for Raymond (commissioned?) or a chance purchase, but my god it's kind of amazing on Raffy's part if it was purposefully done. Sending a booby trapped painting of the bloody death of your people to the man who's brutally harvesting them and displaying their remains in his home like a fucked up macabre museum piece. It's just 😚👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 so perfect.
I won't lie, the whole chapter is so much more uncomfortable and creepy when you've got more context 😖

What if Sylus is a half Wanderer/any other kind of monstrous creature that escaped from Philo? What if he can't die or only die in a very specific way, so Philo kept him incarcerated instead of just killing him and that's how he became Philo's most wanted criminal? We know 28 years old is his real age, because if it wasn't, it would probably be stated like Xavier's "age unknown, fake age 23" so what if Sylus was a new monster, transformed pretty recently, saw his kind being decimated by Philo for some reason and he is now the only one left and swore revenge on them and that's why he did all he did in his anedoctes stories? What if he's on Earth to mess up with Philo's plan for it? What if whatever Philo wants, Sylus finds it first and tortures them with it until they beg for mercy but at the end doesn't give them because it's also useful to him? What if the thing in his eyes is not an aether core but something else that is similar? Because when MC directly asks if he has an aether core in his eyes and that's why he can do that glowy thingy he says:"you could say that" which to me sounded like one of those vague ass answers that neither confirms or denies shit. So what if there's only one aether core in the world? Even BETTER, it's probably MC's Aether Core that Philo and now Sylus wants, so what if Sylus realizes he can't have the aether core and MC and to have one the other has to go? What if he had to choose between having the aether core with its power full on the palm of his hands to fulfill his complete revenge on Philo and maybe some other personal goals or MC's life because you can't freaking have both? I remember I said a while ago that Sylus doesn't have trauma, he is the one that causes trauma. So what if I was fucking wrong? What if I can handle MORE angst? What if I want Sylus to give it to me just like the others have been doing? What if all of it happens? What of any of this never happens? So many questions, no answers at all

Rambling about my new obsession because I'm the sole lord of this glorified trashcan and I can.
Sylus from Love and Deepspace.
Warnings: spoilers for his two story chapters, spoilers about Dawnbreaker, generic spoilers about the game, a lot of self indulgent thinking, error.404 coherence not found, we're hopping from one thought to the other like the sparrows on the window, inaccuracies are likely to happen I'm just a silly guy.
THIS MAN.
So, from the blurred scene we see as flashback when we're on the rooftop with him and stuff, someone made out the figure of a "Wanderer" Sylus on his knees, stabbed with a sword in the chest by the MC. I'll add the link to the Tumblr post with the video here. The video is from TikTok but it's easier to see here if you ask me and besides this is what triggered all my thinking.
Now, hear me out.
We know the other guys (well you guys probably know, I landed on the game for Sylus and saw almost nothing of the in-game lore of the guys, I only know spoilers from social media and something from the anecdotes) all sacrificed something for MC in her past lives. Faith, power, people... They had all to renounce to something to protect MC. Some people were wondering what Sylus sacrificed for her in her past life with him.
This would be the explanation.
He literally died for her.
Like in the flashback he tells MC to press on, so she didn't kill him as an enemy, but he LET her kill him. And for some reason she HAD to kill him too. We can see his clawed hand cradling hers and making her hold the hilt of the sword.
Now if we go down the wanderer theory, y'all are familiar with Dawnbreaker anecdotes right? How people started turning into wanderers and the alternative Zayne had to kill them even though they still had human looks for the most part.
So what if Sylus was, in another life, that kind of wanderer? A human turned into a monster, that MC had no choice but to kill?
BUT WE'RE NOT STOPPING HERE. OH NO WE'RE REACHING WITH THIS ONE.
The surroundings, for what little we could see in the blurry flashbacks, weren't of Linkon, or any place on the current in-game earth for that matter. A very post-apocalyptic vibe, right?
AND we know from Dawnbreaker that his world is going in a similarly dystopic direction: the government is hiding the fact that people are turning into wanderers, Linkon in ruins, normal wanderers roaming free and people forced inside their houses. We've seen suspicious wanderers in the new story chapters too, when we were at the club fighting the other faction of Onychinus. Just reminding y'all.
Now I won't reach THAT much by saying that Dawnbreaker is in the same timeline of wanderer Sylus and MC (though...) BUT what if in their timeline they found themselves in that similar situation, just way further ahead and way worse? MC as one of the few surviving humans with Sylus as her companion, both of them trying to "press on", with ultimately Sylus turning into a wanderer and getting killed by MC, then her dying later on.
This feels like a mashup of Doom Breaker and Eternal Afterlife but it's probably just me.
And all the possible simbolysm, as the person in the video noticed, like the claw gripping a heart on Sylus's necklace? Could it be symbolic of his wanderer self clinging to his humanity? Or maybe his wanderer self, still somehow conscious, offering his heart to MC to be killed, like he did in the flashback?
Also, just to mention the other necklace he has, with the heart being impaled; I don't know how strong vampire lore is in China, BUT a stake to the heart is what is traditionally believed to kill vampires. And vampires, traditionally, are represented as parasites, or rather humans that are possessed by a parasite, and killing them is putting the human soul at peace and saving it. So apply it to Sylus and the earlier reasonings about his past life with MC.
It's the theme of losing humanity and being saved through death before it's too late.
Also it would be such a good parallel with the scene from their first (not exactly first but you get it) interaction, when Sylus presses MC's gun to his chest and encourages her to shoot. Like MC killed him at the first chance she got.
Which would support the wanderer Sylus theory.
And that thing about not being killed by the same thing twice in Lost Oasis??? Hello???
Yes he didn't actually die and can use his energy manipulation to heal himself quickly but you get my point:
He coerced her into shooting at his heart. Where she likely stabbed him in the other timeline.
...
Okay now that we've talked about this (AAAAAAAAAAAAAA THE LORE THE SYMBOLISM THE PARALLELS THE DEPTH I JUST CAN'T WITH THIS GAME) let's go to something lighter!
Like, did you know that crows are one of the smartest and most loyal birds out there?
They have a great memory and will remember you if you help them, becoming loyal to you (following you around, giving you trinkets...) and sort of adopting you as their god in a way (since they give you offerings and expect food in exchange so you are getting my point I hope). What does this say about Sylus? EVERYTHING.
He comes to MC when he needs help and always rewards her, he literally says that he adores her (not in the main story), has his "flock" (Luke and Kieran, and Mephisto if we want) looking out for her, not to mention the stalking...
He's that perfect mix between adorable crow husband and tormented gothic antagonist.
Alr thank you for coming to my LaD talk, have a cookie 🍪

Hi hi! I know I’m a terrible admin with real bad procrastination but I decided to add a new fandom to write about! And that fandom is…
Love & Deepspace
This game has literally taken over my life in the past month and decided I wanna try taking it on. I’m all caught up with the story and I know all about the boys’ lore and have a few theories of my own
I don’t think I’ll be writing about Caleb but we’ll see!
Ren said that once she plays the game more she’s thinking about adding it too!
So if you have requests, lemme know and I’ll eventually get to them!

Y'all-
Is Sylus's necklace supposed to be MC's aether core heart?! Like it's obv not an exact heart, but it's got that vague shape you see in a lot of interpretive art.
Did everyone else realize this already and I'm just slow af? Bc I noticed this today during the tete-a-tete and I'm kind of shooketh rn

It's interesting, this implies that lemurians don't hug as freely or as frequently as we do, which makes a lot of sense with how worked up Rafayel gets when you're all touchy-feely with him.
Though the thought of him trying to sus out your mood every time you want a hug because he needs to understand the 'reason' is absolutely adorable. And when you say "just because" He has to remind himself that yes, that is also a normal valid human reason to want a hug too.

NOPE
NO
NO THANK YOU
I don't like the way those are lining up AT ALL.
"Broken free of the shackles of natural law"
We've heard/seen Zayne be referenced as "shackled" at least 3 times before at this point. By Raymond, by the 'Narrator' ("remains shackled to time"), and in reference to the Foreseer myth. This makes the 4th. I genuinely hurt every single time the story so heavy handidly reminds me that Zayne really is a dog on a chain. The Foreseer robes even have a LITERAL collar of thorns over the neck of it ffs. It's painful to watch at this point and it breaks my heart.
"Why persuade Zayne? What he really needs is a pair of hands. Ones that can carry out God's mission and allow for God's descent."
Between this, and the one below of-
"At least he has another option. His last one"
I'm torn on which one is referencing Astra. On one hand, Astra really could be a modern made "God". An elevated man of great power, someone Zayne turned to in his 11th hour to try and save MC (though we all know how that turned out, unfortunately). It would seem that Xander Sciences is playing at God, and if we know anything about the sci-fi scene, it's that human experimentation ALWAYS ends up going ~soooo well~ and nothing ever goes wrong there 👀
On the other hand, the "last option" really gets my gut feeling going. My theorist brain is telling me Zayne is gonna go full Warlock pact and make a deal with an entity in exchange for MC's life. Only it's gonna go tits up and be a Fey pact, and because we all know how MC and he end up, clearly Zayne did NOT read the fine print (or more likely, Zayne thought he could out maneuver the rules). Ever since I read the Mt Eternal anecdote and realized the Tower and Mt Eternal are in the same location, I could not shake the feeling that Zayne already has made contact with whatever "Astra" is. Be it a very powerful person, an actual God, or someone else entirely different (like another time traveler, such as Xavier and the backtrackers). We know he's traveling back there multiple times by himself, conducting research of an unknown variety, that only he and Dr. Noah are privy to. I'm just saying if ever there was a cover up for having contact with a supernatural being/aliens/a God, that's a really fucking good one.
Whatever it is, this new lore drop has really really spelled out in big bold letters, that Zayne is thought of as a tool by a LOT of people. Xander Sciences, Astra, even the Dean of the medical academy had a moment there. My poor man even thinks of himself as a tool, one that is meant to save MC (from himself he even says at one point 😭😭😭 like oh my God Zayne stoppppp). He literally considers himself expendable so long as he saves her. Once he's done his job and secured her future, even if that means passing on the ability to save her to someone else, he's fine laying down his life for that.
And that's seriously the saddest part of this whole fucking game imo.

You know I've been thinking about Zayne's "when you and the world wake up, I hope we do not meet again" line a lot the last few days and...
I'm more and more convinced it's about his deal with 'Astra' to become the Foreseer.
Like, I'm pretty positive at this point Zayne is going to be metaphorically or physically backed into a corner and feel like making this deal is the only way to actually help MC (which we as the players all know is not how that goes down, unfortunately. Be it that he is lied to or something else happens). We know Zayne is losing the reins on his evol, and we know by the time he becomes the foreseer, he has incredible control over it, so much so that he gains even greater control. (This is already a great reason to push him towards seeking help, but I'm not convinced this will be the catalyst, merely a benefit.)
His "I hope we do not meet again" is likely because he knows what's in store for him. Whether it's true or not (again, i don't think 'Astra' ever told him even a half truth, more like just gave him the facts and then let him extrapolate however he would and then twisted his conclusions bc lbr Zayne has a tendency of going worst case scenario but that's so very Doctor of him) he likely knew he'd be isolated, and required to do some less than pleasant things. The line itself is just filled to the brim with regret, despair, and self-loathing.
When he was first released and everyone read that line, I kept seeing folks say "oh that must be a translation error!" But honestly? The more and more story we get the more I'm realizing that no- that's such a genuine Zayne line.
"I hope we do not meet again" isn't said out of hate or disgust or dislike for mc
"I hope we do not meet again" is being said out of self-doubt, out of fear, out of devotion and dedication to her safety and happiness and health.
This line tells me that Zayne genuinely thinks he's a danger to her by this point. He thinks he's the worst thing that can happen to her, and it breaks my heart.

Thanks to the current event we've gotten the clearest, cleanest look at Dawnbreaker's lapel pin we've ever seen before and I just-
Tumblr media
What the hell is this thing?
Let's discuss below the cut a little, hmm?
I've compared it to several of the similar-ish symbols we've seen in game so far like the aether stone sigil
Tumblr media
Which to no one's surprise is the same symbol that is on the floor during your indoor combat trials (that is very hard to photograph btw)
Tumblr media
So what or who on earth is Dawnbreaker's lapel symbol for?
It's almost totem like, with its multiple stacking heads and arms and wings, all wanderer shaped in their variations, and this has me wondering if the very symbol of Astra himself isn't something so wandered-coded given the nature of protocres and protocore-radiation having some type of mutation property.
It seems oddly fitting to me that Astra, who I still fully 100% with my full chest believe to have been a human at one point, would have the visage of something twisted and violent but in a terribly powerful from. Even more so if my pet theory about Carter (or anyone at Xander) rings true.
Especially against the juxtaposition of Zayne- a man who cannot be disfigured by the protocore energy because he is An Actual God, remaining himself despite the unknown hundreds of years he spent locked away with the creatio protocore at his side. [Mind you this is all speculation of course. We still don't really know what part of the process of the creation of protocores cause protocore sickness and how far it goes before it starts creating the Abominations that Dawnbreaker sees.]
Overall, I believe that at some point in the future, we're going to learn that Astra is more Wanderer than Man by the point he's a "God". Be it by his own hand or not. The way they've set him up, and the distinction they've set between Zayne's previous Godhood and Astra's Godhood, the storytelling is ruffling my feathers in such a specific way that I'm really getting "Man made Eldritch Horror" vibes.

Dawnbreaker Discourse 🌄
Over the last couple days I've been tagged in a number of posts regarding the theory that Greyson's story No Morning holds proof that Zayne's Snowy Serenity card is actually Dawnbreaker Zayne who managed to make it to the present timeline.
Below the cut, I'll discuss why I don't believe this is the case, along with references to the in game content that supports my theory. That said, please note that I fully support the folks who want to believe this theory, because at the end of the day my man deserves to have everyone in his corner.
Let's dig in shall we?
Tumblr media
For starters, I'm not going to rehash the entire breakdown of where all this commentary started, but will try to sum it up quickly instead.
『The CN players have linked the appearance of the white flowers and the black crystal ice in the WU story No Morning to Dawnbreaker.』
All of these theories are interesting and have a lot of fun ideas, but all of them are missing what I think is the key element here.
I believe the constant reference to the black crystal ice as Dawnbreaker's Evol is being misconstrued for what the game is setting up to be a major plot device/point in later parts of the story.
In No Morning we see Greyson observe the black crystals here-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Earlier in this same story it's specified that this plant comes from a very specific place on Mt Eternal, a place where we've seen another massively impactful scene involving something identical in another anecdote- Never ending Winter:
Tumblr media
We also see them referenced again in the World Undernead stories Longly Flame, and Snowy Stairs-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I believe there are other references to the black crystals I am surely missing, but these are the ones I remembered right off the top of my head.
I ALSO realize that in Greyson's POV it very specifically calls them "black ICE crystals" while every other reference says "Black crystals" but I fully believe that's either a translation error, or just a solid case for unreliable narrator. As much as I adore Grey, he can be a bit of a dork, so I can accept the mishap there. That being said, I really do believe with all my heart it is simply a translation difference rather than a deliberate misdirection.
And while Dawnbreaker's ice is indeed a black ice, I do not believe that it will ever be used in a significant storytelling capacity (as in I dont think it will be used to subtly hint at his presence) due to the very heavy-handed usage of these black crystals PG has been feeding us since the very beginning. Never Ending Winter was one of the OG anecdotes, so these black crystals have been set up from launch as a very important reference to either a type of protocore sickness, a metaflux disease, or some other deepspace linked disorder we've yet to understand.
That said, I'll admit I've definitely been calling Zayne's Snowy Serenity card the DawnFaker card because I'll agree- it has some H E A V Y DB undertones and they didn't do him any favors by putting him in a Dawnbreaker cosplay but with a beige sweater. I'm gonna continue to call it the DawnFaker card, but know that it's said in jest and with affection, and that I don't actually believe that card was Dawnbreaker (as much as I wish it was!)
I hope my little bit of imput was helpful or even slightly insightful! Please feel free to discuss or link me any refuting information. I'm always down to say "oops I was wrong~" when it comes to the lore of this game. Because let's be real, it's a mess lol.
