Chapter 90
Because of this incident, Pan'er and Yue Wangfei had inexplicably gained an extra level of intimacy.
As they walked that way, Yue Wangfei said quietly, " Prince Chu and our prince are not very close, but I didn't expect him to greet me today."
Pan'er had a different thought in mind, probably because of her keen sensibilities, but she felt that Prince Chu's sudden stop was because of her. But Prince Chu did not do anything other than glance at her and ask her a question knowingly.
However, it was not easy to say such things to Yue Wangfei, so she could only say shyly, "I stay within the Eastern Palace and rarely see outsiders, especially men, so I am a bit flustered by the sudden sight of them."
Yue Wangfei smiled understandingly and felt that Su Liang Di was a frank and honest person, and had long since cast away any prejudice she had against her.
By this time, the two of them had already reached the children, and as they were talking to them, Pan'er looked back.
Prince Chu and the Seventh Prince were no longer there, and she was instantly relieved.
"Okay, all sweaty from playing, there's many bodies of water in this Western Garden, you can't leave your lackeys behind when you go for walks, you have to bring them along with you before you can come out, tell Mother in advance before you go anywhere, got it?" Pan'er's words were deliberately addressed to Wanyin and Zong Lin, she was not worried about Zong Yue, the boy had always known what was proper.
   "Understood Mother."
The Yue Wangfei also felt that Pan Er's words made sense and told Zong Zhi and Shu Li to listen and to do the same in the future.
Both children answered in the affirmative, and seeing that it was getting late, they turned their heads and walked back.
In front of the Pavilion of the Lotus Wind and the Hui Lu, Pan'er and Yue Wangfei made an appointment to go out for a walk next time, and the children of the two families also agreed to play with each other, and then went their separate ways.
Pan'er had not walked so much for a long time, and her legs were a little sore, so Xiang Pu kneaded her legs, while Zong Yue and Wan Yin went to the study to practise their writing. Before they went out, they had agreed that they would each write two big words when they returned from playing.
The child did not follow Pan'er in anything, except for her reluctance to do embroidery and practice calligraphy, and her writing truly was atrocious. However, at her age, there was no need to worry too much, but Pan'er thought to herself that her daughter would have to be better than herself.
When dinner was about to be served, the Prince came back.
After having dinner together, Pan'er forgot to tell the Prince about the encounter with Prince Chu today because of the children's interruptions.
Pan'er thought that Yue Wangfei had probably said something out of the ordinary because she was so desperate for help, and given her character, she would not mention it again if she missed it this time. At this point, she was a little glad that Prince Chu and the Seventh Prince had appeared and interrupted the conversation, otherwise she would have had a headache thinking about how to answer the other party.
What Pan'er hadn't expected though was that the Yue Wangfei apparently didn't give up so easily.
It was also when she was leading the two children back to Juren Hall that she happened to meet Side Consort Guo, who made a couple of barbed remarks, and Yue Wangfei was defeated by her mouth and suffered a lot of anger. She originally thought she would just remain calm, but Shu Li was still young and although she was usually shy and reserved, she did not want her mother to suffer such anger, so she complained to the Prince of Yue.
The couple inevitably had a big fight, and when she returned, she was so angry that she became dizzy and wept.
So she came uninvited the next day to find Pan'er.
Pan'er was a little surprised by her sudden visit, but seeing her face even worse than yesterday, and the look in her eyes, she already had some idea of her intention.
After the palace maids had served tea, she dismissed everyone and passed the tea in front of Yue Wangfei , saying, "Wangfei, have some tea first."
Yue Wangfei drank the tea, taking the time to calm herself down, but the moment she opened her mouth, she still let her intention wash away the feigned calmness.
She gave a brief account of what had happened last night, and then mocked herself, "I'm not afraid that you will laugh at me, Su Liangdi, but at first my Prince and I were in love for a while. ...
"...... When my mother in law took a fancy to her and wanted to choose her to give to my prince, I had a bad feeling in my heart,we were both from the capital, although she was of high rank and my family was of low rank, I had heard a few rumors about her. You can say I'm not confident, say I'm small-minded, I remember when you were pregnant with Zong Yue and Wan Yin, we also met twice in the Kunning Palace, at that time I really didn’t want to let her enter the door. Unfortunately, I couldn't resist the 'rules' of the palace and the 'filial piety' ......
"...... When she entered the house, it was true that there was less and less room for me to stand in the house. I hate my own lack of courage, and thought it would be just as well to live like this, just enduring it, but the children are getting older, I sometimes see my children put up with it in front of her children, I want to slap myself. I also know that I have come abruptly today and asked abruptly, but I don't want to worry my parents there at my maternal home, and there is no one around to say these things ......"
The princess of Yue said, while dropping tears.
Pan'er sat by the side, not knowing what to say.
In fact, she felt that Yue Wangfei was making things difficult for herself and as a woman of the royal family, if she couldn't even manage to think it through herself, Pan’er was afraid that the life would be unbearable for her. Inevitably, she was reminded of when she was waiting for the crown prince's other children to be born, and she had been pretending that nothing was wrong, but she was still a little uncomfortable in her heart after all.
She had been reluctant to know the Prince's movements in the backyard because she didn't want to face it directly, and she was also putting her head in the sand, but he did come to her most often, especially since the birth of the third child, and he came almost every day, sometimes not, so she just assumed...
She just pretended he was busy in his study.
But when the truth came out, she couldn't continue pretending.
Was it difficult? Of course it was, but not as hard as she thought it would be. On the contrary, she felt relieved, as if some things were still going the way they had in her previous life, which gave her a sense of security.
The days still had to pass, and after two minor tantrums with the prince, which seemed to be genuine, he seemed to understand a bit where her anger lay. He talked about how jealous she was, how she didn't tolerate people, how others knew about it, and how he still came more often to her place.
Was she happy? She seemed a little happy, but not as happy as she thought she would be, and why not, she didn't know. She just didn't want to explore the issue too much, she always felt that if she thought about something too much, her convictions would collapse.
So how could she instruct others on something she didn't even understand?
But looking at the teary-eyed Yue Wangfei, Pan'er also had mixed feelings, not only because of the other party, but also because of herself, because of the Crown Princess, because of this situation where wives and concubines are destined to be on opposite sides.
Just now, when Yue Wangfei cried to her, she wondered if she was like this in the Crown Princess's heart, too.
"In fact, this matter, I really don't know how to go about it with the Crown Princess, after all, the situation is different, the status is different, my words might not be useful. Just like you are the main consort, the person you are opposite of is a side consort, a concubine. I am also a concubine, my position is obviously different from that of the main wife."
"No, you misunderstand," Yue Wangfei panicked a little, wiping her tears as she said hastily, "I'm not trying to get you to speak for me or anything, I just want to learn from you, learn how to please men, I think my prince favours her because I'm not as pleasing as she is ...... I see that you are so pleasing to the prince, so I ...... I don't really mean anything else, I just ......"
I know you don't mean anything else, but you've already embarrassed me a bit.
Pan'er sighed in her heart, suppressing some messy thoughts, and instead looked squarely at the Yue Wangfei once more.
She must have loved Prince Yue very much, otherwise why would she have degraded herself, reduced herself to ask a concubine and condescended to such a level, there must have been some firm conviction that drove her to do so.
If one looks at it this way, it seems that she did not love the crown prince as much as she thought she did. As soon as this thought surfaced, it was immediately dismissed by Pan'er, who felt that she had to stop Yue Wanfei's tears now, otherwise she might be drowned in them.
It was the first time Pan'er had ever seen someone so good at crying. This was not meant to be derogatory, after all, she had seen all kinds of tears in her previous life, including her own, and none of them had been so genuine.
"It's actually quite simple to please someone, whatever he likes, you do."
"Whatever he likes, I'll do it?" Sure enough these words interrupted the tears of Princess Yue, she murmured, seemingly a little confused, "That's all?"
   Pan'er nodded, that was all.
She tried to imagine herself in the position of the Crown Princess and added, "For example, if he doesn't like you to be jealous, you shouldn't be jealous, jealous women are sometimes ugly and make themselves look hideous and aggressive, men are bound to dislike them."
"A jealous woman is ugly, with a hideous face?" Yue Wangfei went to touch her own face, she had been jealous a lot, and she knew she must have looked ugly then, and he had said she was becoming less and less herself, but she was herself, who else could she be?
"But jealousy can still be controlled?"
"Naturally, it's not easy to control, but slowly and consciously, I think it can get better. For example, whenever I feel jealous and want to act out, I just think about how I have nothing to complain about if even the Crown Princess is not jealous."
Obviously Pan'er's teasing tone made it very difficult for Yue Wangfei to accept. She even wondered a little if it was a deliberate perfunctory remark, but when she saw the bitter smile that didn't show at the corner of Pan'er's mouth, she didn't think so again and hesitated.
"When you're not jealous anymore, you can calm down, take time to think about what he likes about you and what you should do to make him like you."
"Make him feel guilty, make him miss you, make him believe what you say, make him gradually be swayed by you, make him ......" Pan'er felt that she was no different from that Guo side consort of the Yue Mansion, the difference being that that person was too arrogant and she was not.
So what qualifications did she have to judge people, what qualifications did she have to instruct the Yue Wangfei, who is the main wife?
In fact, there was another sentence that was most pertinent, but Pan'er did not want to say it. Because this sentence is too out of the dangerous a concept to say, just don't fall in love.
As long as you don't love him, you can be good at everything you need to be good at to uphold your status, you can calmly fight for favour and use tricks to make him like you more because of how understanding and how thoughtful you are.
Something roared in her ears, it was the last words that Empress Chen had said before she was imprisoned in the cold palace in her previous life--
"...... Do you think he really favours you? You are wrong, he only has his kingdom and his nation in his heart, he is doting on you for the sake of his kingdom and nation, you think you have really won? You're wrong! I will wait, I will see you lose like I did ......"
"...... You think that bitch really loves you? No, she doesn't love you, I'm the only one who loves you the most ......"
   ......
Outside the door, the Crown Prince stood there with his hands behind his back, surrounded by minions cowering with their heads hanging.
Only Fu Lu stood a little closer, but hearing how Su Liang Di was pointing out the Yue Wang Fei inside, he was also in a cold sweat. You have nothing to do with the affairs of the House of Yue, why are you getting involved?
As he watched the Prince's face grow darker and darker until he turned to leave, his heart thumped and he knew something big was about to happen.

"¿No? Zhouzhou asintió a regañadientes. No te muevas". ¿viste?" “Ah, ah, me voy… ¡me voy a caer!” "¿A mi?" Huo Xiaoxiao no respondió. ¡Me perdonas!" “No quiero nada”. "Huo Xiaoxiao, ¿tú... no perdonaste a Yi Qian?" "Yi Qian, ¿tienes alguno?" Yi Qian negó con la cabeza. “Huo Xiaoxiao, espera. ¡Iremos a comprarte dulces ahora mismo!" Ayer me defendió, ¿recuerdas?" Huo Xiaoxiao no habló. Zhouzhou la miró con entusiasmo. "¿Puedes darme dulces?" Luego miró a Zhouzhou. "Chenchen, ¿a quién escuchaste?" "Escuché a papá y mamá hablar. "No te preocupes, abuelo. “¿Por qué no has dormido? "Aquí, papá, come dulces". ¿Me oyes?" "..."

A Permanent Mark (Part 19)
Tumblr media
Xicheng memperhatikannya. “Aku tak pernah membawamu kemari ‘ya?”
Zailun berbalik, tersenyum. “Tak pernah,” bisiknya. “Tapi bukan itu yang ingin kubicarakan.” Alpha itu bersandar di dinding, tangan bersedekap. “Soal Liegou Wang,” mulainya.
“Oh,” gumamnya. “Kau datang memberikan jawabanmu?”
“Aku datang untuk meminta waktu lebih,” ralatnya. “Sedikit sulit untukku jika harus meninggalkan klanku. Aku ingin meminta waktu lebih – atau bahkan, jika aku lancang, aku ingin memintamu menarik kesepakatanmu.”
“Kalian tak menginginkan Liegou Wang.”
“Apa kau bahkan menginginkan Liegou Wang?”
Dia menelan ludah, mengingat. “Aku tahu,” balasnya. “Aku tak pernah melupakan kata-kataku.” Zailun berbalik.
“Satu minggu,” ucap Zailun lagi.
“Jangan scent aku,” tegurnya.
“Maaf.”
Begitu dia rindukan.

Chapter 73
When it was announced, many people were surprised.
In the palace, concubines are promoted either on the initiative of their superiors or when they have sufficient seniority. In the case of the Eastern Palace, apart from Empress Fu and the Crown Prince, the Crown Princess is the only one who is qualified to ask for a title for Pan'er.
This is a sign of the harmony between the wives and concubines in the Eastern Palace.
Empress Fu's decree was already prepared, but then this happened.
Nian Qiu came to ask Empress Fu about it.
Empress Fu smiled and said, "Since she can think of this, this palace will do a favor."
When Pan'er found out about it, she was surprised, but it was a good thing, and the decree was soon issued.
As Pan'er was still in confinement, she couldn't have an enthronement ceremony, but as the order had been issued, the rules and regulations should be made clear.
It was just as well that there was a courtyard opposite Hu Liang Di's, which was of the same size as Hu Liang Di's, so the prince instructed Fu Lu to have someone clean it up. The Prince ordered someone to prepare the courtyard for her, but before he could send someone there, the Prince Consort had already ordered someone to do so.
The people of the Eastern Palace were surprised by this change in the Crown Princess.
But surprise is surprise, this should be the Crown Princess should do, the other people can not say anything.
The prince thought that the crown prince's consort would have to perform in front of people after doing this, but he discovered that there was no movement at all in the Hall of Virtue, as if she had done her part and left the rest.
The first thing that happened was that Fu Chun went to the Yu Qing Palace to report that the courtyard for Su Liang Di had been tidied up. He also asked if the second son and the fifth county princess were going to have a full moon feast, and if so, the crown princess would prepare in advance.
The Prince considered the matter of the full moon banquet, and did not intend to hold a big one, but just to celebrate in the East Palace.
For one thing, the birth of the dragon and phoenix babies had already made a big splash, and for another, he had considered that the Grand Duke did not have a big full moon feast in the first place. The Prince Consort's eldest son was already in poor health, so if the eldest son didn't have a feast, the second son couldn't very well have one, since it would have sent a message to the outside world, and outsiders would have made speculations, which would have contradicted the current stability of the Eastern Palace.
The Prince went to explain to Pan'er about this.
She had been blessed to be able to give birth to her two children, and she had been given the title of " Liang Di" and a full moon feast.
"We'll make it up when they turn one year old."
The more Pan'er didn't say anything, the more the Prince would feel guilty.
Pan'er could not say anything comforting at such a time, but could only distract his attention by gossiping about something else, such as how the two children were doing today, or how the Yue'er was doing.
As the two children were being mentioned, the nannies brought them over.
The two children were already at full term, but they were not the same as when they were first born, and it was because of the good milk of the nursemaids that the two little ones had been fed well. Especially after the redness from the birth was gone, the two little ones became whiter and whiter day by day, and they looked healthy.
The only thing is that Yue'er was smaller than his sister.
But he was in good health, and could eat and sleep.
Pan'er guessed that he was robbed of nutrients by his sister in the womb and was congenitally inferior. However, Chou Chou was indeed a better eater than her brother, and while Yue Er was full after a short while, she had to eat for at least a quarter of an hour.
Therefore, even though they both had little root-like arms and legs, Chou Chou's little lotus root limbs were thicker than her brother's.
Looking at her daughter, who had been squeezed by the fat flesh on her face to make her eyes the same as her brother's, Pan'er suddenly had a moment of clarity: "Your Highness, do you think she's a bit fat?"
This question was obviously beyond the Crown Prince's expectation, and he carefully examined her, comparing her appearance to that of the First and Second County princesses at the same time, and indeed she seemed to have put on a little weight.
But again, the Prince didn't think so, he thought it was because those children were all a bit frail.
He thought it was because the children were all a bit weak, but since Wan Yin was so healthy, it didn't matter if she was a bit fat.
After thinking about it, the prince said, "She has just turned one month old, and babies in swaddling clothes are all chubby, and they will only lose weight when they are older."
"That's what Aunt Qing said, but I can barely hold her."
The one who had once given her that feeling was Yue-er in a previous life.
When Yue'er was born, he was quite heavy, and at that time she was not comfortable with the nurse arranged by the Crown Princess, so she secretly fed her son herself. At that time she still felt pity for her son in her heart, everyone else was eating the nurse's milk, but he had to eat his own mother's milk.
Why did she think this way? It was because the nursemaids all ate special meals, while she was afraid of being victimised and ate Bai Jue's meals from the time she was conceived, while her meals were given to Bai Jue. Naturally, the palace maid's meals were not much better, so she felt that her milk was not nourishing, and in order to make up quality with quantity, she would feed more each time.
It was only when the child was almost two months old and carried out to meet people that she was awakened to this self-pitying state of mind.
Hu Liangdi said that the child was too fat, and at that moment, although she was timid, Pan'er was not stupid and could see that Hu Liangdi really resented, rather than envied, the child.
Then she looked at the second son, who was not much older than Yue'er, quite strong and healthy, but not so fat that his eyes were squeezed out like Yue'er's. Only then did she realise that her son was really fat, and not all children in swaddling clothes were like that.
But she didn't change, she continued as before, and by the time he was a year old, Yue'er had become a veritable chubby little boy. Everyone in the palace knew that the crown prince's third son was surprisingly fat, but fortunately the crown prince didn't say anything on the surface, and since the crown prince didn't say anything, others naturally didn't dare to say much on the surface, but private ridicule was inevitable.
It was not until Yue'er had passed the age of three that he slowly slimmed down under her deliberate moderation.
Pan'er now felt that her daughter had the beginnings of this. She had deliberately fed her son so fat to protect herself, but now she could not afford to do so, and her daughter must not become a fat little girl.
"You can't hold her because you don't have the strength, you don't need to since there is a nurse.
There are nannies and palace maids, just let them hold them." The crown prince said.
So people are easily influenced by the people around them, hearing the crown prince say this, Pan'er felt that her daughter was not fat again, it was only cute if she was chubby.
"What a little chubby girl, you can't get any fatter, if you get any fatter you'll lose your eyes. Come, give daddy a hug."
After the initial surprise, the Prince was now used to this mode of speaking to the child by Pan'er, it was her abruptness to which he was still not accustomed, such as now, when she tucked the child in while talking.
It was not the first time she had done such a thing, but each time the Prince was a little uncomfortable with it.
He was still the Crown Prince, and even the Crown Princess wouldn't dare to stuff Zong Duo into his arms.
But he had become accustomed to it.
But the child had already been tucked in, and the Crown Prince could not say that holding the child was too damaging to his image, so he had to take it. Luckily, Fulu was resourceful enough to clear the room every time this happened.
As soon as his daughter was in his hands, the Prince felt a weight in his hands.
He held it steady and weighed her, and it seemed to be a lot heavier than the last time he had held her.
Looking down to examine her, he met his daughter's eyes that had been squeezed into the same Danfeng eyes as her brother's, which were the original words of Pan'er, and the Prince was amused upon being reminded of them.
"Ooohhh ummmm ......" Chou Chou seemed a little excited to see a new face in front of her, a slurred tone escaping her mouth and a string of bubbles spitting out.
"Drooling again, be careful daddy doesn't dislike you," Pan'er was busy picking up a hanky and wiping her, "Aunt Qing said you might be getting teeth, how old are you to be getting teeth."
   "Ooohhhhhhhhhhh ......"
With a sweet look of disgust, Pan'er nodded at her little chubby face and said, "What an ugly girl, let's see what you do when you grow up and can't get married."
   "Ooohhhhhhh mmmm ......"
Feeling someone glaring at her, Pan Er only looked at the Crown Prince.
"How can my daughter not be able to get married."
Pan'er laughed dryly, "I'm just saying." She was busy picking her son up and teasing him as a cover up.
She was the one who said that her daughter was ugly every day, and she was the one who was afraid that she would not be able to get married. When he was about to leave, the prince looked back and wondered in his heart if Wan Yin was really a bit fat.
   --
On the day of the full moon, the entire Eastern Palace was in a state of joy.
Although there was no big full moon feast, the servants were all rewarded with three months' salary. At noon, the Prince Consort hosted a family banquet at the Hall of Virtue, during which Pan'er brought her two children over to show her face.
It is possible that with the Crown Prince present, everyone was relatively restrained, but Pan'er did not ignore the admiring glances. One of the most present gazes was that of Zhao Xiyue, who had finally emerged from her courtyard after more than a year.
But Pan'er sees that she doesn't seem to have grown much, just from the envious and jealous look in her eyes, she has kept herself locked up for nothing these days.
The Crown Princess, on the other hand, had really changed quite a lot, with a gentle and smiling look that somehow reminded Pan'er of Empress Chen in her previous life.
In her previous life, Empress Chen had smiled like this, and since her rebirth, Pan'er had always felt that the Prince Consort gave her the wrong feeling, thinking that it was because she was a few decades younger.
   Pan'er did not stay long.
She had to stay for a month to recuperate from her condition, so she stayed for a while and then took the baby back.
However, she did receive a gift from everyone, including Zhao Xiyue.
When she returned, because of her previous relationship, Pan'er specially called Xiao Dezi to ask him about the recent movements in the Hall of Virtue.
According to Xiao Dezi's description, Jidetang has become much more virtuous recently and seems to be finally acting like a qualified crown princess. In addition to requesting a title for Pan'er, as well as preparing the yard, just waiting for Pan'er to move in, but also caring for the sick. Ma Chenghui had asked for a doctor.
And particularly diligent in visiting elders, since the birth of the eldest son, the Crown Princess would rarely go to the Kunning Palace for greetings, now she goes every day, not only to the Kunning Palace, but also to the Cining Palace, every day both placesare visited, no matter the weather.
"Every day she goes to Cining Palace?" Pan'er was surprised.
The Empress Dowager did not like the Crown Princess too much, probably because Emperor Cheng'an's dislike for the Crown Prince was too obvious, so the Empress Dowager was not close to the Eastern Palace family.
However, the Empress Dowager was not the real mother of Emperor Cheng'an, she was the Empress of the main palace, and Emperor Cheng'an's own mother consort died early, so there was only one Empress Dowager in the palace. The Empress Dowager was also aware of this, and was usually extremely gentle in her dealings with people, and was even-handed with everyone in the palace, so there was no fault to be found.
"Yes, the Crown Princess goes to Cining Palace every day to pay her respects."
This is a little surprising, before the crown prince consort would only visit on the 15th of every month, she was probably also aware of how the empress dowager would not like her, simply unwilling to waste effort, but now she is interested.
The whole thing adds up to something fishy, but in a flash, Pan'er figured it out.
The Crown Princess knew that the relationship between her and the Crown Prince was difficult to repair and that the two lacked trust.
As for the Cining Palace, the reason is that she really wants to find a backer for herself.
   But the Empress Dowager?
The Queen Mother is not familiar with the Empress Dowager, but just by looking at her style of dealing with things, she knows that this is a smart person, without her own son in the end the waist is not hard, so the Empress Dowager is following the attitude of Emperor Cheng'an to do things.
The Empress Dowager is a very good friend of the Emperor, and she has a great deal of respect for these two, but not bad for Empress Fu either. Since Emperor Cheng'an did not like the Crown Prince, could the Empress Dowager like the Crown Princess?
But soon Pan'er learns that she is wrong, for the Crown Princess actually broke her leg trying to protect the Empress Dowager who was enjoying the scenery in the imperial garden.

Chapter 32: Star Death Reality Show (XV)
"Genocide Day", just hearing this name made one feel panic, as if they were being driven to the slaughterhouse, shaking in the face of death.
"What is... Genocide Day?" Qi Leren was infected by He Yi's current solemn expression, and right now he was as nervous as he was, but he was obviously in a much better state than He Yi. He remembered to turn on the camera.
"Judging by the amphioctopus’s nature, this is about to happen, and I happen to know something. At first, I didn't think... The glowing stone was... It was a dormant octopus egg... It shouldn't be, it's impossible, how could it be... I mean, they’ve been extinct for hundreds of years. Most of the data of amphioctopuses focuses on their parasitic nature and the way the amphioctopuses spread between hosts, there’s seldom mention of what form they take in the dormant period. Their vitality is very tenacious, and if they sense that none of their common prey is active, they can go into a dormant state that can last for hundreds of years! What kind of monster have we released!" He Yi put his hand over his forehead, and his voice was hoarse.
"Would you like some water?" Qi Leren could see that his current state wasn’t good. It could be guessed that he hadn't eaten since entering this underground laboratory, and there were no clean water sources here.
At the beginning, he had felt that He Yi was like Su He, but now it seemed that they were very different. At least, He Yi doesn't have the calm and faint superiority in his stature. He was just an ordinary person, who would be scared and afraid like an ordinary person.
Stripped of the coat of a peaceful environment, he was just a panicked human being under his skin.
It seemed that He Yi had not been parasitized. Otherwise, he would have had the chance to kill him, or at least control him.
"Do you have any?" He Yi asked happily.
Dr. Lu had found two bags when collecting materials, one of which had been given to Qi Leren. Qi Leren had put in it some compressed food and a small bottle of water in a special thermos to prevent freezing. After all, there were cameras everywhere. He couldn't take them out of thin air from the item bar, so he had simply prepared a little, which came in handy now.
After receiving the food and water, He Yi took a few mouthfuls, took a few bites of compressed food, and handed it back with pain and patience: "Put it away, otherwise I can't help but eat it."
Qi Leren generously said: "You eat, I’m not hungry."
He Yi gave him a complicated look: "Save it, we have to prepare for the worst. The spaceship won’t return to this planet until… I don't know which day. We should count on this until then. Believe me, this is the safest way."
"No, we have to find a way out and tell the people outside!" Qi Leren flatly rejected He Yi's proposal.
"You can't get out. Even since I found that the standby power here was turned on, the automatic defense system here also started. There are laser traps at the exits... How did you get in?" He Yi suddenly remembered this question and looked at him with an expression of surprise.
Qi Leren hadn't understood why the electronic lock on the iron door in Jing Siyu’s basement was electrified—in fact, it hadn't been electrified the whole time, the power had only been turned on after He Yi had mistakenly revealed the corridor into the underground research institute.
"I have better reflexes than most people," Qi Leren lied without changing his face.
He Yi made a face of "Are you kidding?"
"My companion and I found the ID card, unlocked the electronic lock, and encountered some danger after entering the laser corridor. Fortunately, my reaction time was quick enough," Qi Leren said.
He Yi was silent for a while, and looked at Qi Leren with suspicious and inquiring eyes. After careful observation, he seemed to have a trace of fear in his expression: "Who on earth are you?"
Qi Leren couldn't explain.
"Are you from the military? What do you know?" He Yi's voice had an uncontrollable panic.
Qi Leren looked at him inexplicably.
"Did you know the octopus would be here?" He Yi asked nervously.
"You’re mistaken, I really am just the lead singer of a band." Qi Leren patted He Yi on the shoulder calmly and He Yi trembled with fear. "Well, don't be too nervous. It's not impossible for us to beat the amphioctopus. We won't die like the people on this planet."
He Yi looked at him with an expression that was like he had cursed him severely just now.
"Er... What are your plans now?" Qi Leren tried to forget that he had just raised a flag.
"If we stay here, we can avoid Genocide Day. Our situation here is separate from the outside world because of the long distance, so we need to wait a few more days, and when the army arrives, we will be rescued. If we go out and fight rashly and without thinking, the final result may be that we’re parasitized or killed... Do you really want to do that?" He Yi asked.
"My friends are still outside, they know nothing about the situation," Qi Leren said.
He Yi closed his eyes and whispered, "You are not the saviour."
"I know."
"You can't save everyone."
"I know."
"And you’re likely to die."
"I know all this."
He Yi looked at him: "Then why do you want to do this?"
Qi Leren was silent for a long time. For the task requirements, he had to go out to kill the octopus to earn more survival time. What's more, Dr. Lu and Du Yue were outside, so he had to bring back the information about the octopus. Even if he didn't consider these, he had to consider those innocent NPCs. Although he wouldn't sacrifice his life in order to save them, he had chosen to help them as much as possible, even if he didn't know what these NPCs were.
He had died many times and knew how terrible death was, so he was even more reluctant to see someone else die, even if it was just an NPC.
He Yi was still looking at him. Qi Leren realized that he had been thinking for too long, but he couldn't give a convincing answer. He felt that saying the truth would be a bit nauseating, so he responded to him with a saint-like smile: "Because I want to get the Best of the Day, one million dollars."
He Yi: "..............."
He Yi didn't seem to want to dwell on this problem anymore. After his mood stabilized, he told Qi Leren what had happened between him and Mark when he’d returned to the basement of Jing Siyu’s house with the axe.
"Mark's eyes began to bleed. I thought he had hit his head and caused intracranial hemorrhaging. He was scared to death. After all, we don't have any medical equipment. If the situation was serious, he would die. But soon, I found that something was wrong. Mark's eyes turned white, and he was convulsing like crazy. After about half a minute, he returned to normal and woke up. I asked him what was wrong. He didn't answer me. He looked at me with a strange look... " As He Yi recalled that look, his body shivered unconsciously." It was a kind of... waking up from hibernation. A monster's eyes."
Qi Leren’s back suddenly felt cold.
"The reason why the octopus can multiply on such a large scale anywhere in the universe is that once they parasitize intelligent creatures, they will first paralyze the brain of the host and acquire all the knowledge of the individual, including common sense, at an alarming rate. The consciousness of the host itself cannot compete with it. The terrible thing about it is that once it begins to parasitize, it learns to disguise itself. It will follow this individual's way of thinking, tone of speech, walking posture, and even micro-expressions... Only it knows that this is imitation, and everyone will think that this is the host itself."
"What about Mark?"
"There’s a process in the octopus’s parasitism. As I said just now, after entering the human body, it will paralyze the host's brain first, and over the next eight to ten hours, it will madly capture the host's body. At that time, there will be a short period of strangeness, and Mark's eyes bled during this period. Next, the amphioctopus completely occupies his brain, entrenched in it. After more than 20 hours after entering the body, the amphioctopus will develop from larva to a mature body and will begin to replicate itself. Mark was the first infected person, and the infection time was roughly before midnight on the first day..."
He Yi's words reminded Qi Leren of another thing. He asked, "What did you want to say to me when we were waiting for Mark outside Annie's house?"
He Yi gave a wry smile: "I want to say that on the first night, I saw Mark and Annie go to the church. And Janet and Alex, they’re dating... It’s too late to say this now."
Qi Leren nodded: "Go on."
"I had seen his eyes bleeding. At that time, he had already been captured by the octopus... He held me hostage and tied me up in the attic. I never thought of the reason, and wondered how he dared to do such a thing in front of the camera. After that, Mark left the attic and talked to Annie. I vaguely heard some words. They seemed to want me to be the next object of sacrifice... At that time... I... didn't understand what the sacrifice was... I thought it was a cult sacrifice... I broke the rope, found the entrance to the basement, and entered the basement through the pipe. Mark found that I had run away and chased me down. I also found explosives and wanted to kill him to escape. As a result, I accidentally revealed the passage behind the wall and entered here."
"But Annie shouldn’t be infected. I knocked her out when I searched the basement just now. If she was parasitized, she wouldn't be knocked out so easily by me, would she?" Qi Leren asked.
He Yi asked: "How did you knock her out?"
"Hitting the nape of her neck."
"Let me think about it... If she was parasitized for no more than one day, it would still be in her brain and wouldn’t have swallowed her internal organs. I remember that at this stage, it may cause the host to be unconscious for a short time." He answered, and continued, "after entering this institute, I found some information. I couldn't read the text, but the picture above linked to Annie and Mark, and I finally put everything together. But it's too late... By now, it's the fourth day. According to the way the octopuses breed, they grow and multiply each day. There is only one on the first day, then two on the second day, and four on the third day. On the fourth day, that is, this evening, their number will surge to eight!"
Eight... This was too much!
Qi Leren thought about it. It was Mark who was infected on the first night, Mark infected Xue Jiahui on the second night, and Mark and Xue Jiahui infected one person respectively on the third night, one of whom was probably Annie.
In this way, Annie was infected for only one day at most.
Fortunately, otherwise, when they had been in the basement, Qi Leren would have faced a hard battle.
Was this the use for bringing two people with EX luck? Qi Leren couldn't help but come up with such a thought.
But tonight, these four octopuses would infect four people again... The time left for him was running out.
He Yi looked at Qi Leren, and the look of horror became more and more dignified: "The octopus has another characteristic...
