i have barely touched any of my Big wips but fuck it, we ballin, i made a new one
has a sister intro here
below is the text transcript for the slides:
Slide one:
ABSOLUTE WISHES [UNLIMITED]
绝对心愿[无限]
Slide two:
QUICK INTRO
Unlimited flow is a genre featuring horror, challenge, and survival games. A character summoned into unique spaces separate from the real world and have to complete tasks, generally stuff like puzzles, survival or horror games. The final purpose is to survive. Usually involved instances and special abilities, a system is optional.
Slide three:
Any wish can be fulfilled, no matter how illogical or impossible. It only requires a small price, one that can be paid for by completing games. Succeed, and gain all that you’ve only dreamed of. Fail, and fall into despair. Welcome to Absolution.exe. Please work hard for your absolution.
Slide four:
OKAY, WHAT’S GOING ON HERE?
With a strong enough wish, people can be selected to enter a game: Absolution.exe. The game can grant them whatever they wish for, as long as they collect enough “points” to buy it… and as long as they are still alive to claim it.
Our MC, Pei Luxiang, wished for… something, and he wakes up on a cruise ship as the first game begins. The price for his wish is extremely high, he has an Ability way-too early in the game, and there are… things that he may or may not have forgotten, but still knows (it’s complicated).
Still, his main goal is gaining enough points to fulfil his unknown wish and nothing more… right?
Slide five:
OKAY, BUT WHAT DO YOU HAVE?
myths and stories from all around the world
diverse cast (but a focus on Chinese characters!)
found family
an almost-forgotten bet lasting gods-know-how-long already (this is very important)
worlds of horror to be survived (or die in)
hopefully cool powers and arcs
characters with varying outlooks in life ft. “i may have a moral code with only three bullet points but i STICK to it”
Slide six:
WOW! WHAT’S YOUR INSPO?
(again) myths and stories from all around the world
literally every single unlimited flow horror novel ever written
in particular, After the Little Crybaby Enters the Nightmare Cycle and Supernatural Movie Actor App (Unlimited)
no but seriously if you want recommendations for other unlimited flow novels please hit me up i have So Many. you can also just check out its novelupdates tag i guess
main characters copied inspired by the 6 blorbos in my head i rotate daily (some more than others ;;)
Slide seven:
MAIN CHARACTERS
Pei Luxiang: he/him, heavily invested in beekeeping (and really loves bees), his milkshake brings all the boys to the yard but god he wishes it didn’t.
Chai Mingxue: she/her, gfs ->, sword girlfriend, manic pixie dreamgirl but she does it on purpose
Luo Siyang: she/her, <- gfs, gun girlfriend, walking encyclopaedia but only of things she was previously fixated on
Slide eight:
(LATE) MAIN CHARACTERS
Tai Nanfeng: he/him, born to be a surgeon forced to be a doctor (general), unwillingly dragged into shenanigans but would not hesitate
Chi Yuxi: she/they, questioning gender? bitch we don’t have time for that, unfortunately knows things they shouldn’t and hides it well (until. uh. plot)
Ji Liqing: he/him, that’s all you get to know about him for now, ??????????????, deserves to be protected but does it instead
Slide nine:
anyway that’s it lol
if you have any interesting folktales or myths (not necessarily horror) pls giv. thamk
slides template by slides2go btw. yeah.

Part 1 of the Wuyi Whump Party because it’s high time that guy got a taste of his own medicine, eh? This is just the set up for the situation, technically.
CW: blood (small mention)
“Your name isn’t Zhao Wuyi,” Zhao Luxiang says, her voice trembling on every word, her eyes shining with tears of anger and sorrow for a family she doesn’t even remember. “And you aren’t my big brother.”
Zhao Wuyi’s right eye stings and twitches as the blood dripping down his forehead catches on his lashes. He uses his remaining eye to stare at the girl he watched grow up from afar. The last time he saw her, she was bright and jubilant as she showed off her wedding dress, as red as cinnabar and the warm flush of happiness on her face.
“We may not have the same mother,” Zhao Wuyi says, “but we are siblings by blood. Who told you otherwise?”
Zhao Luxiang swallows a scream as she lifts her head, eyes burning with righteous fury.
“My nursemaid helped to deliver my big brother, too,” she says with hatred and pain clinging to every word. “He went missing for three months after – after everyone else was gone. She raised him with her own two hands, how could she have mistaken the child they brought back for the Ah Cheng she saw grow up? They swore her to secrecy, she only told me this on her deathbed after I begged for her to tell me the truth.”
Her husband stands near the door. At the time, people thought it a shame that the daughter of a general would marry a merchant, however wealthy, but Zhao Wuyi wonders if perhaps it was her plan all along. People are willing to set aside their happiness to reach their goals. He knows this better than most.
“Did you think, just because I’m a silly little girl with dreams of finding love in marriage, that I wouldn’t notice?” Zhao Luxiang’s voice falls, breathless, as she shakes her head.
A silly girl. He called her that often, after ruffling her hair and leaving her carefully arranged hair ornaments askew. She used to screech at him, face turning red at her displeasure, and Zhao Wuyi can say with confidence that his smile from back then was real.
“Notice what?” he asks, his voice like the mist encircling the distant mountains, thin and cold.
“That you aren’t my brother!” she screams, her hand lashing out, the hairpin she used to cut him across the temple sliding from her grip. It shatters on the wooden floor, into a dozen pearls and flecks of gold. “You don’t remember anything, not the horse that Uncle Ji bought me for my birthday, the pastries Chef Wang made us when Eldest Brother passed his exams!”
She circles the area, her face twisted in torment, and her husband comes to stand solemnly at her side. They really did turn out to be a perfect match.
“I...I always believed you,” she says, not quite crying, as if all her tears have dried up long ago. “When you said you had a bad memory. Because who would want to be the son of a family labeled as traitors? Who would suffer that humiliation? But you don’t have a bad memory at all. You’re the Chief of Wan’an Bureau.”
She laughs, but it’s not the same carefree laugh he knows her for. It’s a sharp, pained thing, as if she is choking on glass.
“What happened to my real brother?” she asks. “What happened to the real Ah Cheng?”
Zhao Wuyi inhales a cold sigh that pierces the lungs and says, “I don’t know.”
“How can you not know?” she breathes, tears of hatred dripping to the floor. “Who are you, really?”
“Zhao Wuyi,” he says, because that is the truth written into an imperial edict that neither of them can change. “The head of Wan’an Bureau, Zhao Wuyi.”

Have you read Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim? Idk what Era precisely it's meant to be, but I'm curious if anyone in the Chinese fashion sphere has anything to say about the clothes making/designing portions of the book, re: what clothes making was really like, the job of a royal tailor/tailors in general (were they common, or did most people make their own clothes? Was it a respected job?), that kind of thing! Thank you for your work on this blog!
I don't usually read fantasy novels like Spin the Dawn but I can say a thing or two about clothing production in imperial China. The state of dressmaking was different for each era and I can only talk a little bit about the Ming and Qing. Obviously I don't know the complete details of every stage of production for clothing, I'll just share some things that I do have knowledge on. Most of my information came from Rachel Silberstein's book A Fashionable Century: Textile Artistry and Commerce in the Late Qing, which could be read on JSTOR.
Royal dressmaking
Clothing that was meant for royal use was seldom created by one person alone, but rather the combined efforts of specialists and professionals in different areas. The designs would be made by artists in court, then textiles used for the clothing would be commissioned from state owned textile workshops, then sent to tailors to be sewn into garments and then to embroiderers if embroidery was required. Embroidery wasn't always necessary, since for most of the Ming fashionable and prestigious clothing was made from fabrics with woven patterns (e.g. brocades, damasks) instead of embroidered ones; embroidery would not become the dominant form of decoration until the Ming-Qing transition in the mid 17th century. Normal people wouldn't be able to purchase fabrics from the imperial workshops, but imperial workshops have been on the decline since the late Ming and commercial workshops were producing quality fabrics on a par with those from the imperial ones. Imperial workshop also frequently sublet their work to commercial ones.
As to the design aspect, formal court dress was heavily regulated as to what patterns and garments could be used for what occasion, so there wasn’t much room for artistic liberty. It was on informal clothing that more creativity could be exercised; embroiderers could choose what patterns and motifs go on garments and tailors could experiment with different proportions.

Tumblr media
Source
Guangxu era informal 氅衣 changyi. The final appearance of this garment was still the combined efforts of many people, e.g. the weavers decided on the purple color, the tailor decided on the proportion and the embroiderers the floral motifs etc..
Home dressmaking
Common people prior to the 17th century mostly made their own clothes, particularly by the female members of the household. It was very common to make clothing from scratch i.e. the growing of cotton or grooming of silkworms, to fabric weaving, sewing and embroidering. It was considered a part of women's education to learn how to weave fabrics and sew garments together, but this doesn't mean that the entire dressmaking process was confined to women or one person either; men, who were expected to do farm work, would grow the crops necessary for the weaving of fabrics, and often assisted in the weaving process. Since the majority of the Chinese population lived in the countryside, many families produced fabrics from raw materials they made on their own farms and made clothes from said fabrics. Because of the difficulty in weaving brocaded fabrics by oneself, home dressmakers who couldn't afford to buy ready woven fabrics prior to the late Ming had to limit themselves to plain fabrics. In the late Ming and early Qing, the rise of embroidery as the dominant method of decoration meant that fashionable patterns became available to less wealthy people who couldn't afford to buy expensive brocaded fabrics, since they could reproduce all the fashionable patterns with just needle, thread and spare time. Embroidery books showing popular patterns and motifs were widely available and could be purchased cheaply. With that said, that doesn't mean that the entirety of a garment had to be made from scratch; many decorations and notions could be bought from shops, like trimmings, ribbons, buttons and prefabricated embroidery appliques. The seamstress would just need to buy the fabric, decorations and notions and put them together as one garment. In the Qing, women seldom went out of the house, and they relied on vendors or middlemen for vendors who brought products to their homes for sale. For women at the time, being a skilled weaver, seamstress or embroiderer was a highly desirable trait, not just because it symbolized "female virtue" whatever that means, but also because it provided work opportunities. Women who were otherwise not employed could take commissions from commercial weaving, tailoring or embroidery workshops as a side income.
Commercial dressmaking
Since the 17th century, the textile industry was increasingly commercialized and it since became more viable to purchase ready woven fabrics from commercial workshops, especially for people in urban areas.  These were usually owned by rural families as a side income, and they would often hire landless people to work in their manufactories. I don't know if owning a textile manufactory was a respected job (probably not, considering the literati's hatred for everything commercial) but these people did make serious money. Family operating businesses were often co-owned by wife and husband. Embroidery workshops making prefabricated embroidered appliques and tailor shops making ready to wear garments were also quite common, often relying on middlemen for delivering orders and negotiating prices between the workshop and individual embroiderers/seamstresses in the countryside. In Qing tailor shops, it was often the case that only menswear could be purchased ready to wear, whereas womenswear was made to measure or by the wearer herself. Within tailor shops, there were many subdivisions of labor, like some people did pattern drafting, some people cut pattern pieces and some people assembled the garments. The status of commercial tailors has historically been low, mostly because of the Confucian ruling class’ disdain for consumption, luxury and anything non-self sustaining.

Feminist tangent
In the Qing, most home weaving and embroidering were done by women, but the commercial workshops were male dominated and their guilds prohibited entry for women, because commercial dressmaking had become a lucrative business and men didn’t want to share employment with women. Male employees in workshops were considered artisans and better paid, whereas women who had to work at home were considered unskilled labor and paid less. Most commercial tailors in the Qing were also male, for reasons similar to why embroidery was male dominated. Whereas women commonly sewed clothes for themselves and their families, they were often prohibited from becoming professional tailors working in workshops or joining a guild. It’s that bogus thing where handicrafts are “women’s work” but when men see how profitable they are they suddenly become “artistic” and limited to men.
Commercial tailors, who were male, were seen as a cultural abomination for doing what was historically seen as “women’s work” for profit. In order to elevate themselves to a higher, more respected status, they chose to throw women under the bus and revise the history of all things historically considered “women’s work” to make them more male centered. An example of this was the 露香园 Luxiang Yuan or Dew Fragrance Garden, a renowned Suzhou embroidery workshop built up by three generations of women of the Gu family, who owned the estate and was the namesake of their style of embroidery, 顾绣 guxiu or Gu embroidery. The male family head at the time, Gu Mingshi, later became the patron saint of the Suzhou embroiderer’s guild founded in 1867. The reason why Gu Mingshi was worshipped instead of the three women who made Gu embroidery famous was largely because male members of the Suzhou embroiderer’s guild needed historical justification for their exclusion of women and erasure of women’s contributions. Apparently late 19th century scholars also complained about this misogyny so this isn’t a new understanding.

Gu embroidery by Han Ximeng, one of the three OG Gu women.
With all of this said, it doesn’t mean that women stopped working in commercial embroidery; women were actually the backbone of the industry, they just didn’t get any recognition from official, male written guild records and such. Many people in the 19th century observed that while the resident embroiderers in commercial workshops were men, a lot of their work was sublet to independent female embroiderers in the countryside, who were not credited on the finished product or advertising.
Now I’m kinda inspired to make a whole rant about working women in the Qing and their representation (or lack thereof) in the Republican era, but there are some 20 unanswered asks sitting in my ask box so maybe later😅

He looks at him, stares into those eyes that hold the depths of undeniable innocence, and he knows as clear as day, as clear as it will ever be, that his heart was only meant for him. And those years of pain and loathing that carved him into a statue built of stone, had only been conquered once it faced the novelty Levi brought with him, its surface having been penetrated when its fortresses surrendered without Nico ever knowing they had been built.

Absolute Wishes [Unlimited Flow]
• | 绝对心愿[无限流]
with a sister intro here
Any wish can be fulfilled, no matter how illogical or impossible.
Pei Luxiang was inexplicably transported onto a cruise, where he was told he had made a wish strong enough to qualify him for a game of survival, where needed to go through and survive instances[1] in order to gain points and fulfil his wish.
There were just two problems: his wish cost 1 million points, and he couldn’t know what the wish was.
[1] - instances is a term referring to the game worlds to be survived.
STATUS | outlining, planning, etc
GENRES & THEMES | horror, mystery, survival game, unlimited flow, amnesia as a plot device, mystery solving, found family (with a small twist)
SETTINGS | So Many.
CONTENT WARNINGS | gore, explicit descriptions of death, violence
some extra rambles under the cut
the sister intro mentions what unlimited flow actually is, but in general, it’s a subgenre found in chinese novels where the characters are (usually) tossed into a survival game with (usually) infinite levels, though there is (usually) a goal that ends it all. the survival games deal with figuring out the mystery, completing tasks, and surviving the instance. commonly, the characters are given props and/or abilities to help them survive. that’s generally the format of it, but with any other subgenre, there are variations.
if you’re intrigued and want to read examples, you can look through the novelupdates tag of it. majority here are fan-translated/edited MTL (machine translations). some of them may have [Unlimited/Unlimited Flow] next to their names; that’s basically telling readers they are an unlimited flow novel (like mine lol)
there’s way more danmei (bl) of the subgenre translated, but if you know chinese/don’t mind machine translations, you can look at places such as jjwxc/gongzicp for a lot more of the other types. the tag is 无限/无限流.
if you don’t mind reading danmei, i’d suggest reading through completed novels first. they all have various degrees of horror, and the overall tone differs too. suggesting complete novels: if you’d prefer something fluffier, there’s Misplacement Game. if you’re a fan of more gorey novels, there’s Supernatural Movie Actor App. if you want something playing more to the mystery aspect, Card Room (very long) is a good choice. the NU pages of those also have other similar-ish stories rec’d by readers

Biography of Zhangsun Fei
[From WS026. His actual family name would have been Baba (or Touba)]
Zhangsun Fei was a native of Dai. In the time of Zhaocheng, aged 13, he was selected for inside attendance. As young he had an elegant bearing, he was determined, resolute, and of few words. During when Taizu was with the Dugu and Helan sections, Fei regularly attended and accompanied, and repelled affronts left and right. Taizu deeply trusted and relied on him.
Beginning of Dengguo [386 – 395], he, Mo Ti and others all were great generals. He accompanied the campaign against Liu Xian, when they struck the Kumoxi from Ruyuan, and when they chastised the Helan section, in all cases he had merit in battle. When Taizu campaigned against the Ruanruan, and greatly routed them, Fei took the surrender of their ruler Pihouba. The affair is compiled in the Account of the Ruanruan.
He also accompanied the campaigns against Weichen and the Xuegan section, routing and destroying them. The separate ruler of Ruanruan, Yunheti's son Heduohan and others led his section groups to abandon his father and run west. Fei used light cavalry to pursue him until Shang commandery, and beheaded him.
Afterwards he accompanied the campaign against Zhongshan, and was designated General who Leads the Army. The Chariot Drove to stay at Jinyang. Murong Bao's Inspector of Bing province, and King of Liaoxi, Nong, abandoned the city and escaped at night. Fei pursued him until Puquan, and captured his wife and children. When Taizu was about to besiege Zhongshan, Murong Bao abandoned the city and ran to Helong. Fei, together with the General of the Left, Li Li, and 3 000 cavalry, pursued him, He arrived at Fanyang, did not catch up and turned back. Thereupon he routed his Yancheng Defence post, and took prisoner more than a thousand people.
Within Zhongshan city they installed Murong Pulin as the ruler. Taizu besieged him. Pulin then set out with more than a thousand foot soldiers, wishing to look out for a gap to trespass the encirclement. Taizu instructed Fei to provoke a battle, and feign withdrawing. Pulin's multitudes pursued Fei, and Taizu cut off their rear, and wholly caught and beheaded them.
At time, since the troops and horses had few provisions, they thereupon abandoned the siege of Zhonsgshan, to seek out grain in Hejian. Murong Helin killed Pulin and installed himself. The Chariot Drove to stay at Lukou, and dispatched Fei to lead 7 000 cavalry and assault Zhongshan. He entered its outlying areas and turned back. Helin used 4 000 infantry and cavalry to pursue Fei until Gu River. Fei struck him from Weichang, and captured 200 armoured cavalry. Fei was hit by a flowing arrow, and the wound was severe, he therefore turned back. When Zhongshan was pacified, he was for his merit bestowed the feudal rank of Duke of Langye. He moved to Commandant of Guards Dignitary, and changed feudal rank to Luxiang.
At the time, the Grand Warden of Zhongshan, Chou Ru, was unhappy with moving inside, and absconded and hid in Zhao commandery. He pushed forward the bandit leader Zhao Zhun as ruler, and fraudulently fashioned a bewitching saying which stated:
[When] Yan in the east is overturned, Zhao will carry on. [When] wishing to understand its name, measuring [zhun] water is not enough.
Zhun was pleased and followed it. He titled himself Envoy Holding the Tally, Great General who Conquers the West, Shepherd of Qing and Ji provinces, and Duke of Julu. Ru became Senior Clerk. They assembled a faction of more than 2 000 people, occupied Guancheng, joined up with and drew fort the Dingling, killed and harmed the chiefs and functionaries, and stirred up and incited the various commanderies of Changshan, Julu and Guangping.
Dispatched Fei to lead 3 000 cavalry and chastise them. He routed Zhun at Jiumen, beheaded Ru, and captured Zhun alive. There was a decree to use Ru's flesh as food. Zhun was transmitted and sent of to the Imperial City, where they pulled him apart in the market, and exterminated his kin.
Appointed Fei General who Garrisons the Distant and Inspector of Yan province, and provided him with 20 000 infantry and cavalry. He patrolled south to Xuchang, and annexed the land until Pengcheng. Sima Dezong's general Liu Gai dispatched envoys to go to Fei and request to surrender, and to pay tribute with the things of his region.
At the robbing of Pingyang by Yao Ping, Taizu wanted to chastise him, [but] selecting from the various generals he had nobody like Fei. He therefore summoned him to return to the Imperial City, and dispatched Fei, with the King of Piling, Shun, and others, and 60 000 cavalry as the vanguard.
The Chariot Drove to stay at Yong'an. Ping levied and dispatched brave generals, to lead 200 finest cavalry to spy on the army. Fei confronted, struck and caught them, not a horse went back. Ping withdrew to guard Chai Fort. Taizu advanced, attacked and slaughtered them. He dispatched Fei to turn back to garrison Yan province.
Fei consoled and placated South of the He, and obtained the hearts of the functionaries and the people, his power and trustworthiness was visible in Huai and Si. He was good at strategies and plans, his bravery was ahead of the various generals, in every battle he was regularly in front of the troops and soldiers. From beginning to end, during conquests and chastisements, he not once lost or was defeated, and for that reason every time there were great difficulties, they ordered Fei to undertake them.
In the south when they pacified the Central Plains, and in the west when they broke the Qiang robbers, Fei's merits was a great part of it. He was rewarded with and bestowed several hundred slaves and servants, the livestock and things numbered in the thousands. Later he was reduced in feudal rank to be Marquis of Lantian. 5th Year of Tianci [408 AD], he passed on, his posthumous title was Martial [wu], and he had an accompanying burial at Jinling. His son Han inherited the feudal rank.

Manber’s vision isn’t necessarily to grow crops in space to feed people on Earth, but rather to breed new mutant varieties that would be able to flourish in uncharacteristically harsh conditions back on Earth — a prescient goal as the global community falters in the battle against climate change.
“Through the DNA mutations that occur in space and subsequent selection and breeding, we have created varieties that have higher yields, better nutritional profiles and resistance to diseases, and also require less water or tolerate higher temperatures,” Liu Luxiang, a researcher at the Institute of Crop Science of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences who works on space-bred mutant crops, told Space.com
