Perceived Momentum Solidifies #Habits
I’ve been a premium subscriber to Lumosity (brain games app) on and off for a decade now. I find it helpful. The older I get the more I realize my brain can use all the help it can get. Real, imagined, or placebo I don’t care. Don’t tell me about the labor pains just show me the baby. I would use it reasonably consistently here and there then drop off. I would subscribe to the premium version…

I love Humans Are Space Orcs and all therein because humans are just really fucking weird.
So, of course, I ended up with a little WIP.
In which I did some research about White Dwarf Suns, how they affect plants & planets, how lack of sunlight affects color pigments, etc. I ended up making my own alien species, as you do, and it is interesting.
Currently, the species doesn't have a name. It's this reptilian-like, biologically-plant-fused creature that has a home planet orbiting a White Dwarf Sun. Because it has flora fused into its biology, it makes its own food like plants do: via photosynthesis. But wait! White Dwarf Suns have low lumosity & this planet, called K-J12, has a bunch of moons and rings kinda like Saturn. So. Lack of sunlight means it's a whole lot harder for things to feed via photosynthesis.
Solution: plants that feed from moonlight, promptly named Selenosynthesis.
Selenosynthesis is basically photosynthesis but with moonlight instead of sunlight. The Photo- prefix means "light" and the Seleno- prefix means "moon". So, this process is how plant life & Biological Plant Fusion (BPF) type creatures feed themselves and survive.
There's a lot more lore, but I wanted to share the bit about Selenosynthesis.

Hello 💕 do you have any truth or dare fics to recommend? X
We have some fics involving dares here. Here are some truth or dare fics...
A Question of Who Started What by lumosity (T)
Aziraphale finds out that Crowley started the Catholic church during a game of truth or dare. ------- “I really didn’t mean for it to go that far. I just kinda...yknow, made an eensy joke to some men at a bar and they, ah, took it too far,” Crowley said, tilting his head back to look at the scant clouds above. “What was that joke, exactly?” Aziraphale asked, trying his best to keep the tension out of his voice. “Something about putting saint’s body parts in the altars,” Crowley mumbled, tipping his face into his drink before taking a massive swig. “You’re the one who started the relics?” Aziraphale hissed.
Truth or Dare by JonsiGray (M)
It's a dark and stormy night, quite unlike the night Crowley delivered the anti-christ. Well, not delivered delivered. Aziraphale and Crowley are nestled on Crowley's sofa in their cottage under a thick blanket having a glass of wine. The power is out and Aziraphale lights an obscene amount of candles along with the fire in the grate. They are perfectly content until Crowley suggests an amusing, and frightful, way to pass the time. “I’ll be right back.” Crowley slid from under the cashmere blanket and ran off to the kitchen, the stone floor freezing under his bare feet. Crowley was quiet in there. Too quiet. Then suddenly Aziraphale heard whisking. Crowley ran back and slid under the blanket. "What is this?" "You have to drink it. All of it."
Truth or Dare by HopeCoppice (T)
It's Aziraphale's first time playing Truth or Dare. Crowley has a secret to protect, all the way from the Garden itself.
Truth or Dare by DarkRomance (E)
An AU where Crowley and Aziraphale are university students sharing a dorm room. It's Saturday night and Crowley is bored. Aziraphale is reading, but gets his book from him, asking if he wants to play a game. Aziraphale agrees. The game is "Truth or Dare"
Warmed from the Snow by PrincessDianaArtemis (E)
Aziraphale and Crowley find themselves snowed into the Bookshop and decided to play a couple of games to keep themselves entertained. One thing leads to another which leads to admissions, confessions, and some new experiences for them.
Truth or Dare by MirjamOmens (E)
“Let’s ask questions, like Truth or Dare!” Crowley burst out laughing. “You do realize what you are getting into?” he said, “I could dare you to all manners of sins, it's called tempting, I’m a professional!” “I’m not going to pick a dare, silly!” Aziraphale chuckled. “And you aren’t either, just the questions!” “It’s not the Truth or Dare then!” Crowley objected, still laughing. Aziraphale waved his hand to indicate something about not caring the least. “Do you not want to play then?”
The Tutor by tenandi (E)
Aziraphale is popular, outgoing, and one of the most accomplished students Holy Cross has ever seen. When he's tasked with tutoring the school's worst student he ends up getting schooled in a very different manner. (Waggles eyebrows). - “Aziraphale,” Crowley says thoughtfully, sounding out the name on his tongue. “You’re not asking me to corrupt you, are you?” The blonde doesn’t even bother to look embarrassed or uncertain. Instead, he affects one of his cockiest smiles. “Is that a truth or a dare?”

Idk if I've ever heard, what's the meaning behind your url?
I know your AO3 has been Lumosed Quill, but where does the train tracks fit in there?
Tumblr media
Sorry this took so long, but one of the reasons I let it sit is because it's not a nice story. When I got into HP, I was in an abusive relationship and had been for the last eleven years of my life. My partner at the time forbade me to write HP fic (which, how we got to that point is a long story and a private one), but in essence, I'd had enough. I couldn't escape her yet, but I wasn't going to let her run everything about my life anymore, so I decided I'd outwardly agree not to write it and then do so in secret anyway. I had to think of a name that she would never think to connect to me. I came up with traintracks both because it had no previous meaning that she would catch onto at all, but also because I'd begun to view my own life as a journey toward my freedom but one I didn't yet fully have control over. Like a train on a track, flying through the night, I just had to trust that one day I would reach a better place. I had to believe that I could create the circumstances under which I could leave, but at that time, all I could see were the tracks just ahead of me, just what was illuminated right in front of me, and not anything of the road ahead.
It took me nearly three more years to make my escape, but I did, and it has been literally everything. This December I will have been free of her for 9 years, but I swear it feels like longer, which in itself is wonderful.
And I'm still writing HP. It was a huge factor in my survival, and it's still a huge factor in my joy.
Thank you for the ask. I know this is likely more than you bargained for. <3

Today was a much better day! Also, I was very excited because for the first time since I first learned it a year or two ago, completing the square finally made sense to me. I have no idea how I never understood it until now. All I had to do was divide the x factor by 2 then square it and add that square to both sides of the equation. It's so simple! In other words, I had a lot of fun working on Geometry today because I was thrilled that it finally made sense.
In other news, I accidentally wrote my Biology assignment in my World History notebook. I am not sure how since my Biology notebook is larger than my World History notebook, but it happened. It was three full pages worth of writing, so that is not getting copied over. When I realized what I did, I laughed it off because I was shocked and amused that I had done that.
Tasks Completed:
Geometry - Reviewed completing the square + learned about general equations of circles + practice + honors work
Lit and Comp II - Reviewed Unit 19 Vocabulary + read chapter 29 of Emma by Jane Austen + reviewed figurative language terms + sentence types quiz (non-graded) + read through my next project (due next Tuesday)
Spanish 2 - Learned about passive voice + completed passive voice assignment
Bible I - Read Joshua 22
World History - Looked at a map of the Western Front + read about trench warfare + read a couple of articles (Angels of Mons and Chlorine Gas)
Biology with Lab - Completed global trends quiz + wrote a paragraph about what I would do to help solve one of the world's problems
Foundations - Read the definition of responsibility + completed Lumosity daily brain workout + completed identifying fact from opinion in advertising activity
Piano - Practiced for one hour
Khan Academy - Completed High School Geometry Unit 7: Lesson 3 (already assigned) + completed World History Unit 6: Lesson 3 (part 1)

Games boost cognitive function by improving memory, problem-solving, and attention. Let’s explore the top choices for Alzheimer’s, including board games, card games, and apps. In the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease, games can stimulate the brain and improve memory, problem-solving, and attention. As a caregiver, you can support your loved one by exploring and selecting games that align with their needs. Let’s explore these games, their benefits, and where you can find them. Brain games for Alzheimer’s disease Participating in activities that challenge the mind, body, and social skills is linked to a lower risk of cognitive decline and dementia. Research shows that games, including board games and video games, can help individuals with early and middle-stage dementia by providing cognitive stimulation and maintaining skills such as memory and problem-solving. Games also promote engagement and social interaction, which are essential for emotional well-being and can be tailored to address specific symptoms of dementia. Games on mobile Games on mobile phones are helpful for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease because they provide easy access to cognitive stimulation and can be played anytime and anywhere. Lumosity Lumosity is a brain-training app designed to enhance cognitive skills through a variety of engaging games and exercises. It focuses on improving areas like memory, attention, problem-solving, and language skills by offering personalized training programs based on individual performance. Users can track their progress and receive feedback on their cognitive abilities. Lumosity: Brain Training is available on both iPhone and Android devices. Blackbox The Blackbox app is a unique puzzle game that challenges your problem-solving and creative thinking skills. Unlike traditional games where you tap the screen to interact, Blackbox uses your iPhone’s features like motion sensors, volume buttons, and the microphone to solve puzzles. Each level presents a different challenge, requiring you to think “outside the box.” For example, you might need to tilt your phone, change the volume, or even speak into the microphone to complete a puzzle. Blackbox is available on iPhone devices. Scrabble GO Scrabble GO is a mobile game that modernizes the classic word game Scrabble, allowing players to form words on a game board and compete with others online. The game stimulates brain areas involved in language, problem-solving, and memory. Regular play can enhance vocabulary, improve spelling skills, and promote cognitive flexibility as players adapt their strategies and think critically about word placements. The game can help individuals with Alzheimer’s disease by providing cognitive stimulation, enhancing language skills, and encouraging social interaction, which may improve mental health and delay cognitive decline. Words with Friends is available on both iPhone and Android devices.
Wordle Wordle is a word puzzle game where players have six attempts to guess a five-letter word, receiving feedback on letter placement and correctness after each guess. The game boosts cognition by enhancing problem-solving skills, vocabulary, and spelling. It encourages pattern recognition and strategic thinking as players use feedback to refine guesses and develop winning strategies. Wordle is available on the New York Times website. Candy Crush Saga Candy Crush is a popular puzzle game where players match three or more candies in a row to clear them from the board and score points. This game may help individuals with dementia by offering engaging tasks that improve focus, visual-spatial skills, and short-term memory. Candy Crush Saga is available on both iPhone and Android devices. Cookie Run: Kingdom Cookie Run: Kingdom is a mobile game where players build and manage a kingdom made up of cookie characters. You collect and upgrade different cookie heroes, each with unique abilities, to defend your kingdom and complete various challenges. The game requires players to carefully manage their resources (like money, materials, or characters) while engaging in combat or battles. This requires critical thinking and decision making, which can help keep the brain active and engaged. Cookie Run: Kingdom is available on both iPhone and Android devices. Hard copy game books Caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients can buy various types of cognitive stimulation books, including: Crossword puzzles: These books challenge memory and problem-solving skills. Mario Kart (Nintendo Switch): A fun and simple racing game that enhances hand-eye coordination and quick thinking. The Nintendo Switch console and game can be found at electronics stores and online. Exercise and movement games Research shows that long-term exercise can improve thinking and reduce symptoms in people with early Alzheimer’s disease. Exercise boosts brain blood flow, increases hippocampal volume, and promotes new brain cell growth. Being physically active lowers the risk of developing Alzheimer’s, is more effective, and has fewer side effects than medications. Consider these exercise and movement games: Memory Ball: This game combines physical activity with memory exercises, helping to improve coordination and cognitive function. Available from senior care product retailers or online. Chair yoga: Gentle exercises designed for sitting that improve flexibility and strength while promoting mental relaxation. Search for instructional YouTube videos or online classes tailored for seniors. Exercise bands: These can be used for light resistance training to enhance strength and mobility. Available at fitness stores or online. Balance games: Simple activities like standing on one leg or walking along a line can improve balance and coordination. These can be guided through senior fitness programs or found as part of home exercise kits. One study found that people with Alzheimer’s who exercised regularly had better physical fitness, including improved strength, endurance, and balance, compared with those who didn’t exercise. Additionally, exercise was linked to fewer unexpected hospital visits for those with mild dementia, although it didn’t affect overall hospitalization rates or death rates. The bottom line Games for Alzheimer’s, including phone apps, board games, and card games,
can help provide cognitive stimulation, encourage social interaction, and maintain motor skills. You can start looking for games for Alzheimer’s at local toy stores, large retailers like Walmart or Amazon, and specialty dementia care stores, such as The Alzheimer’s Store.

Curtis Cripe Explores Fun and Effective Exercises to Enhance Neuroplasticity
Curtis Cripe Explores Fun and Effective Exercises to Enhance Neuroplasticity: Boost Your Brain's Health and Flexibility
Neuroplasticity, the brain's remarkable ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections, is crucial for cognitive flexibility and resilience. Engaging in exercises that promote neuroplasticity can help keep your brain adaptable and healthy. Curtis Cripe provides some practical and effective activities to boost your brain's neuroplasticity.
Tumblr media
Physical Exercise
Regular physical activity is one of the most effective ways to enhance neuroplasticity. Exercise increases blood flow to the brain, delivering oxygen and nutrients essential for brain health. Activities like walking, running, swimming, or cycling stimulate the production of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein that supports the growth of new neurons and synapses.
Tip: Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week. Incorporate activities you enjoy to make it easier to stick with your routine.
Learning New Skills
Challenging your brain with new skills can significantly boost neuroplasticity. Whether it's learning a new language, picking up a musical instrument, or trying a new hobby like painting or knitting, these activities require your brain to adapt and form new neural pathways.
Tip: Choose activities that interest you and push you out of your comfort zone. The key is to keep your brain engaged and challenged.
Cognitive Training Games
Cognitive training games, often found in apps and online platforms, are designed to improve specific cognitive functions such as memory, attention, and problem-solving skills. These games can be a fun and effective way to stimulate your brain and promote neuroplasticity.
Tip: Dedicate a few minutes each day to playing cognitive training games. Popular apps like Lumosity or Peak offer a variety of games that target different cognitive skills.
Mindfulness and Meditation
Mindfulness practices and meditation have been shown to enhance neuroplasticity by promoting the growth of new neural connections. These practices help improve focus, reduce stress, and increase emotional regulation by altering the brain's structure and function.
Tip: Start with just a few minutes of mindfulness or meditation each day. Apps like Headspace or Calm can provide guided sessions to help you get started.
Social Interaction
Engaging in social activities and maintaining strong relationships can also promote neuroplasticity. Social interactions challenge your brain to process complex social cues, emotions, and communication, which can lead to the formation of new neural pathways.
Tip: Make an effort to connect with friends and family regularly. Join clubs, volunteer, or participate in group activities to increase your social interactions.
Healthy Diet
A balanced diet rich in antioxidants, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals supports overall brain health and neuroplasticity. Foods like blueberries, fatty fish, nuts, seeds, and leafy greens provide essential nutrients that promote the growth and maintenance of neural connections.
Tip: Incorporate a variety of brain-healthy foods into your diet. Stay hydrated, and consider consulting a nutritionist for personalized dietary advice.
Tumblr media
Adequate Sleep
Sleep is critical for neuroplasticity. It allows the brain to process and consolidate memories and experiences. During sleep, the brain undergoes repair and growth processes that are essential for maintaining cognitive function.
Tip: Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night. Establish a regular sleep routine and create a restful environment to improve sleep quality.
Novel Experiences
Exposing your brain to new and varied experiences can enhance neuroplasticity. Traveling, exploring new places, or even taking different routes to work can stimulate your brain by breaking routine patterns and encouraging new neural connections.
Tip: Make an effort to try new things regularly. It doesn't have to be a grand adventure; even small changes in your daily routine can make a difference.
Incorporating these activities into your daily life can help boost your brain's neuroplasticity, keeping it healthy and adaptable. Curtis Cripe notes that by staying physically active, challenging your mind, maintaining social connections, and prioritizing your overall well-being, you can support your brain's ability to grow and change throughout your life.
