i never ever want to sound like one of those guys who's like erm this female character is getting in the way of my mlm pairing 🤓 but mgs4 tests me every single time

i'm v much of the mindset where i like to rationalize questionable narrative decisions instead of just erasing them for personal hcs because i think it raises avenues for analysis i wouldn't usually consider. i've realized through this replay of the mgs series i've been doing a Lot of that leading up to 4, namely with naomi's whole.existence in the game

the only thing that really even makes sense to me is otacon's responses to her advances being a trauma response (& with his body language that whole briefing it checks out) but it still makes me feel so Yucky attributing her character into just . a mechanism to develop a male character

as much as i love metal gear i get So upset about the absolutely baffling treatment of female characters. they're set up to be so cool & independent but then they're just used for fanservicey moments/jokes or just shelved for the sake of their male counterparts 😭

idk i don't rlly have a point with this but it's just depressing i guess. times have certainly changed but it's still insanely common to see this sort of thing in media and it's awful and uncomfortable and gross

because on one hand Mother fucker is a general insult and nobody really says it to mean "This person fucked their mom" when they say it but on the other hand, y'know thats kind of uhhhh
