In honor of lesbian visibility week, I present a full list of female characters from Total Drama who have canonically shown no attraction to men! (as far as I'm aware)

Staci - Only present for one episode and only spoke for one episode, having no lines in the finale. None of these lines hint at Staci displaying any interest in men.

Dawn - The closest thing I could find was the "I didn't know you were a beetle whisperer!" scene, but even then, that could easily be read as platonic. Svetlana - Similar case to Staci in that her lines are pretty limited due to being actively suppressed by Mike or Mal. However she has not, in fact, said anything that hints at her liking men in those few lines.

Sammy & Amy - Other than that one "Topher thinks you're fat" line of dialogue (which could easily be played off as Amy trying to mess with her), neither of them have shown any on-screen interest in men.

Scarlett - The only extensive interaction she has with men are Max, whom she DESPISES, and their alliance is only romantically framed for the sake of a gag.

Sugar - Nothing in canon hints at her liking men. She admires Leonard, but this is most likely due to his perceived magical abilities rather than any sort of attraction as she displays a similar interest in Max later on.

Tammy - Similar case to Staci, she only had a very brief speaking role in episode 1 and never in these lines was it implied she was attracted to men.

Mary & Ellody - Only here for a short time (with Mary only having dialogue in the episode she was eliminated in rip), but neither of them express interest in guys.

Laurie & Miles - Same deal as Mary and Ellody, they go pretty early overall but haven't been shown to like men.

Jen - You'd expect someone of her character archetype to mention looking for 'cute guys' or something similar, but surprisingly no? The closest thing she has would be her friendship with Tom, which is treated as 100% platonic by the show even if you don't take into account the fact that Tom is gay.

Taylor - Another surprising one imo, it's never stated or implied that she likes guys in the show, not even a passing mention from what I've seen which I could've sworn happened on first watch. Mandela effect I guess 🤷

Josee - Similar deal to Jen as far as I'm aware, being that her closest relationship to a guy is with a gay man and treated as platonic throughout the race.

Sanders - Pretty clear-cut, no scenes of her expressing interest in men or romance in general.

MacArthur - "What about Brody?" The only time she's shown to return his affection is during the finale and she's actively trying to throw him off his game by using his crush against him. She only asks Brody to call her in the Surfers ending, which she doesn't do at all in the Cadets ending implying that she's most likely only in it for the money.

Scary Girl/Lauren - While she does hold an interest in Damien, nothing in canon says she's attracted to him, only to the sound of his screams.

Nichelle - Too busy having no lines to talk about boys. seethingwithrage

Millie - Zero attraction to men in canon, the most interactions she has are with and about Priya. She's sorta friendly with Damien, but it doesn't rise anywhere above platonic (probably because she shoved him into a meat grinder but who knows) and actively seems to be disgusted by or otherwise pretty averse to most of the male cast.

MK - Has never been shown to be interested in guys or even romance in general. In fact, she actively seems to dislike it as seen in the episode where Caleb and Priya kiss where she goes “Yeah, that was sweet, but it’s also how you get mono” (this is ace mk propaganda btw). There was also Nichelle's intro in season 1 when she was looking at her starry-eyed, clearly a joke but yk still noteworthy.

Julia - My favorite lesbian <3 zero attraction or hints at attraction to men in canon + listen... we all watched season 2 you know what I'm talking about don't lie. The closest things she has to romantic interactions with men in canon are at most one-sided and always with her actively disliking said man on the other side (Wayne + maybe Ripper in season 1).

Instead of MK, I originally had Bowie since he's basically in Al's place the way Julia is in Heather's. But since Raj spills the beans here, I had to change because Bowie wouldn't want to put him in a tight situation. So I went with the next beat candidate that is also on Bowie's team, which is MK.

the mkulia alliance IS in character

ive heard a lot of people, some of them mkulia shippers, saying that while the evil lesbian alliance is great to watch, it isn't in character for mk and julia. however, i believe it is, and i believe it's still consistent from last season, and this is why:

facades

mk and julia were both hiding under facades in the beginning of sesaon one. mk was downplaying her skills to fly under the radar, and julia was posing as a chill influencer both to maintain her online image and not make herself a threat. these two facades had their advantages, but also their downsides. mk's contributions, specifically in the skull challenge, went unnoticed by her team, while julia had to completely hide her true personality. mk expresses frustration at everyone thinking she hadn't done anything when she got her team the win, and julia later goes on to say that it's exhausting to pretend to like yoga and whatnot. for most of the time they interact in season one, mk and julia are not behaving like their true selves.

animosity

did mk and julia have a rivalry once julia's true self was revealed? yes. did it result in mk's elimination? also yes. was mk the one to instigate that rivalry by posting the video of julia's true self? absolutely. and while they definitely had beef while this was going down, in the end, it was better for both of them. julia says that it's freeing to get to be her true self, and she even gains followers from it. the consequences of being her full nasty self don't catch up with her for a while after mk's elimination, and the worst thing that happens is julia too gets eliminated. as for mk, julia revealing that she watched everyone's confessionals means that while mk can't fly under the radar as much as she previously had, she gets to be recognized for her brains and sneakiness. because of their initial rivalry, mk and julia don't have to keep hiding their true selves.

necessity

julia and mk are both smart enough to know that in order to survive on their team, they NEED an alliance to counter the bowie-raj-wayne voting power. and seeing as scary girl was the first boot, and chase and ripper are chase and ripper, it makes sense that they would gravitate toward one another. especially with their underhanded playing styles, and especially being the only girls on the team. julia and bowie did not like each other in season one, and they still teamed up to counter the priya-millie alliance. julia has already proven to be willing to team up with people she doesn't like in order to stay in the game.

friendship

they became enemies in the first season, but after the passage of time, a necessary alliance, and most importantly, the shedding of their facades, it's reasonable that they could become friends. mk only got to interact with the real julia for an episode's worth of time, and julia never really got to see the real mk. now, she's watching mk steal an intern's uniform, sneak into production meetings, stash cheating supplies, and get the challenge answers from computers. julia is seeing a whole new side of mk, and as someone who appreciates vicious, strategic competitors like herself, i can absolutely see julia growing to like the real mk. and mk doesn't have to hide her true self from her team anymore, as she can be very upfront about cheating.

despite her rivalry with bowie, julia also had moments when she enjoyed being in an alliance with him (talking in the confessional about how they both thought they would be in the final after priya and millie were supposedly dead via avalanche) and trusted that he had her back (not thinking that he would double cross her and vote for her instead of millie even though it was the smarter move for him). i think it would make sense for julia to enjoy an alliance with mk and admire her clever thinking.

as for mk, yes, julia got her booted last season, but mk instigated that by exposing the real julia, and i think she's aware of that. i also think that even though she was the first person to see the real julia, mk still didn't understand that she wasn't just a mean girl with an influencer persona, she's a force to be reckoned with. julia loses it for her team in the episode mk is eliminated in, so mk doesn't get to see julia doing great in other challenges before her own screentime is over. i believe mk underestimated julia when she exposed her.

seeing as emma was able to watch the episode where she thought chase was performing an act of love for her when it was really just for pizza, it's completely reasonable for mk and julia to watch or at least know of each other's actions in the last season that they didn't get to witness in person. their first direct interaction is complimenting each other's moves/style, meaning that they have a greater understanding of how the other girl operates than they did last season.

because of how they play/interact with others, mk and julia don't have many friends. the closest thing julia has is bowie, who's more like her rival, while everyone else knows she's mean and doesn't like her. meanwhile nobody on mk's team would like her after she stole their stuff, and nobody else would like her for secretly watching their "private" confessionals. it makes sense to me that not only would they latch onto the other girl out of necessity, but because they're someone who can actually appreciate their play style and not turn against them because of it. not to mention mk can finally hang out with someone who likes her sarcasm for a change.

and while mk and julia definitely act like they have a romance plot in the future (and god i hope they do), i don't think their interactions together are very out of character even though they're praising one another and enjoying each other's company. julia is still mean and enjoys people getting hurt, mk is still devious and has no qualms about cheating, they just get to scheme and sabotage with someone by their side now. and while this development was unexpected even for a lot of us mkulia shippers, it is hardly unwelcome, and to me, hardly illogical. thank you for coming to my td talk.

Things I liked in season 2:

Priyaleb was cute.

Caleb is a character here, and he's such a nice guy!

Rajbow moments.

Rajbow not breaking up (yes, it's important).

Wayne and Raj are lovable himbos as they are. They, Julia, MK, and Demian, carried this season.

Chase is eliminated in the second episode (I don't like him).

Zee being Zee.

Damien and Nichelle, being a king and queen of this season.

Ripper is a better person and not as gross or annoying as his s1 self (though it's also his downhill).

No fart jokes, thank god!

The humor is better.

Julia and MK are the most unexpected friendships we have this season. They're definitely my favorite antagonist duo in total drama. They are so terrible in a good way.

Raj and Wayne's farewell scene had the best animation in all series.

This right here is the most wholesome moment in the series by far. I want to hug people who created this.

Things I didn't like:

They didn't change the intro. It's laziness to me.

The fact that the teams almost didn't change. The only differences: Caleb, Emma, and Nichelle on Priya's team. Chase, Ripper, and Axel on Bowie's team. I'm not very angry at this, but it's very boring.

Priya and Caleb should've been eliminated earlier.

Emma being eliminated in the 3rd episode is a crime.

Bowie and Emma did not reconcile. They didn't even interact with each other this season!

Demian being a character tool (he didn't deserve it).

Rippaxel was hilarious but came out of nowhere.

Priyaleb has too much screen time.

Priya became Courtney after episode 7 and tried to kill Caleb.

Ripper is a completely different character here. Did he had a character development off-screen???

Caleb and Axel do not have anything besides their romances.

Is it just me, or did they take Bowie strategic and sassy part away from him? Don't get me wrong, he's still the best, but something was... off.

Wayne's not using his captain/leader skills. Considering he's the winner of this season, this would've been very useful.

The whole separation between Wayne and Raj was too short. To this to work better, Raj should've been eliminated earlier (how painful it didn't sound).

Tho I'm happy between Bowie and Raj, I think Raj should've gotten mad at him. I mean, they builded up the hole. "Bowie is lying to his bf," and then nothing really happened!

Them throwing Mille character development and making her worse.

"I'll be back and get revenge on you!"- and then she didn't (episode 13 doesn't count!).

Poore Nichelle. She was too powerful.

A personal preference:

Priya's coming through self-discovery to learn what she wants would've been interesting.

Imagine if Chris said that Priya and Bowie were actually choosing teammates for an opposite team. It's would've been so bold and interesting!

Demian should've been in the final three instead of Caleb.

I would prefer Wayne to be eliminated instead of Raj.

My dream finale was Raj vs Julia or MK. Like fair vs cheating, get it? Plus, Raj taking revenge on one of them for eliminating Bowie.

If mkulia does become canon, I feel like it would be Bowie who makes them realize their feelings.

Like they would all be sitting at a table together and mk and Julia would talk together like the lesbians they are, and Bowie would make a comment about how close they are (obviously joking about how clearly gay they are for each other). Raj and Wayne would be kinda confused not getting the joke so Bowie whispers to them that they are clearly in love with each other and one of them would overhear it (could be either but I’m saying Julia cause I like it more) she’d originally brush it off but not tell Mk. But as the episode progresses she’d begin to realize her true feelings but not want to confess to her out of fear that they might lose their friendship. Cut to the after the elimination ceremony and Julia and Mk are hanging out and Bowie watching them in the distance and he can just tell that Julia is pining. Mk goes into the cabin and Bowie goes over to Mk to ask her about it. At first she denies it but eventually spills her heart out to him (this WILL be a bonding moment that impacts their relationship later) and about how she’s worried Mk doesn’t reciprocate the feelings and still wants to be close with her. Bowie comforts her saying that if she ever needs help figuring her feeling out he’d be there for her. (she only realized she’s queer and Bowie definitely would give killer advice about this)

so glad you pointed out the "sidekick dilemma" because it's always bothered me lol. that's one issue i have with ripaxel- it made me like ripper a lot more but axel still kinda feels like an empty character to me? there just isn't a lot to say about her except she's dating ripper 😭 same mk and raj being too glued to their own partners as well, as much as I like mkulia/rajbow/raj and wayne. i wish we could see them revolve less around the other half of their main duo, especially when said other half has more to their character allowing them to stand on their own so they DON'T just come across as "this person's love interest/bestie."

yes precisely this!! for someone who went from being out 15th to 10th place... we don't have a lot about axel. which, okay, not every character can get as much writing as others (this is a cast of 16 characters, after all; it'd be hard to give em all substance), but axel's character is very bare in comparison to others. it's why i wish she got some more individual time to shine.

i've always been slightly disappointed when one person of a pair just receives more on the writing end in general, and this season really caught my eye in that regard. mk's situation... very wild to me. who was mk without julia? i know their new budding friendship is important (their bond is one of my fav details of this season, if my ao3 isn't enough evidence of that lol), but i just wish we got some more individual play from mk. she is much more than a sidekick to julia. she's crafty! tech-savvy! viscous in her own right! the bear did not take away those abilities like cmon!

and raj. MAN. won't lie: this one strikes me the most. i was so certain that bowie's elimination scene was thee scene for raj, the one that shows that he's in it to win fairly, make his boyfriend proud, be the protagonist he was destined to be... but i fear the writing didn't really pay him as much attention as i thought it would once bowie was eliminated. it's why i wish he would have held a slight grudge against players like julia and mk, even if he is a silly, forgiving goober at heart. would have made more tension, more motive. but alas.

and the main thing is that the other parts of these pairs—ripper, julia, and bowie—have enough going from them in both seasons. but their partners/besties? well, not as much. it's why i think interactions outside of their norm is a needed thing. otherwise, how can they possibly grow? to learn a character, truly learn them, we have to see them in situations that both comfort and discomfort them. i really hope if there is a season three, the writers take that into consideration

I finally had the time to watch the whole reboot (not true, I've just been avoiding studying) so here's my final overall opinion for both seasons.

I think I like season one more, mostly because of the less romance drama and the bigger focus on friendships and rivalries and because Bowie was there the whole time. So here my opinion on each character, in alphabetical order. This shit got way too long for no reason.

Axel: she was cool. Overall fine, it was fun watching her, especially in the second season. I like that she has an artistic side to her that isn't needed for survival, with poetry and painting. I think my favorite episode for her was the third of season two, when she gets stuck to and has to deal with Ripper, and they actually start to get along.

Bowie: I don't think there's any way for me to not have him as my overall favorite. He's too much fun, he's smart, strong, confident, friendly, but he isn't perfect at all, and he showed it especially in season two. The relationship with Raj was adorable, the rivalry with Julia amazing, the friendship with Emma great and I'd say perfectly handled in the first season. He got involved in all of the main plots of the first season, and had a huge role in all of them. I just love him. I can't decide a single favorite episode for him, it would be between episodes 1, 9, 11 and 12 from the first season and episode 5 from the second.

Caleb: I've seen so much hate for him after the second season. But I'll tell you what: I actually enjoyed him, especially in the last couple of episodes. He's not a favorite, not even close, but they gave me the time to learn more about him (maybe even way too much). I liked him especially in episode 12 of season two, where he couldn't decide how to handle Priya and Julia and keep a balance between his alliances that he worked so hard to get, the greatest bit being when Priya made him promise to not tell Julia about the betrayal, and he said his word didn't matter anymore. And in the end he just didn't listen to neither of them.

Chase: well, what to say. He was fine. He was good for what he represented, and he actually had some fun moments. The fake death bit with the bears was hilarious, one of my favorite comedy moments overall. Though I'd say my favorite episode for him was the fourth of the first season, because of some great interactions with Priya and Millie, as well as him being the voice of reason of the team for the elimination.

Damien: I love him. He's overall funny, and his sarcastic comments especially in season two were great. Did he deserve more? Yes. But I'd say sixth place is plenty respectable. I'd say my favorite episode for him is the sixth from the second season. Him winning the tourney, especially defeating Julia and Bowie out of sheer luck, was way too funny and great to see.

Emma: I can't bring myself to not like her. She's fun, there's actually people like her and Chase out there - hell, TV is full of those couples. She deserved way more, and if there will ever be a third seasons, I honest to god hope she wins. I think my favorite episode for her was episode 11 of the first season. Even if she was out of her mind for Chase and she got eliminated, she actually did amazing in the challenge, and the confrontation with Bowie is probably one of my favorite scenes overall.

Julia: there she is. She and Priya are probably the two with the most stuff to talk about, they made it obvious that they are the protagonists of this reboot. Let's say her relationships were all great in general. The rivalry with Bowie, the weird friendship with MK, the twisted alliance with Caleb. I think I did prefer her more in the first season, though. She was more of a "less talking, more acting" kind of villain, which was a nice change of pace from the ones we had in previous seasons, and a great contrast to Bowie's playing style. I'd say my favorite episodes for her were either 9 (my favorite overall) or 12 from the first season.

Millie: I'm saying it: Millie is an amazing character. There. Her arc in the first season is great. You can see her evolving throughout thanks to her friendship with Priya. You see her realize she did some wrong stuff and feeling guilty about it. You see her trying to get better as a person, surpassing the obstacle that is Bowie and finally having the face-to-face that she owed to Priya. She was never meant to become a great player, which is why she did a lot of mistakes in the second season. She's not a powerhouse like Bowie, Priya or Julia, and she paid for what she did wrong. I think my favorite episodes for her were 10 and 11 of the first season, when she realized she was acting badly and decided to change it.

MK: just like Damien, I love her. I always love a snarky character, and she's a great follow up to Noah. She's probably what he could have been if they had given him more space, actually. Anyway, I already said that her friendship with Julia is great, I don't think I have much else to add. I'd say my favorite episodes for her were either episode 4 from season one, or episodes 3 or 7 from the second.

Nichelle: yeah, here's where I get jumped. Because I think it's fair to say she's my least favorite of the cast. It's not even like I don't like her, as I am neutral at most. But she did have some unbearable moments. And I think the fact my favorite episode for her was the second of the first season, where she didn't even get that much screen time but had some actual interactions with other characters, shows a lot how much of a presence she had in the second season for me.

Priya: there she is, too. What to say? She's great in the first season. For me, she and Bowie are the most deserving finalists since Heather and Alejandro in World Tour. But man, it was heavy to watch her in the second season. When it still wasn't out, I thought she took a lot of screen time with Millie in the first, but watching both seasons back-to-back made me realize how much more sparse their scenes were compared to those with Caleb. And as I prefer friendship over romance in general, it was really hard to keep seeing them going. So yeah, that's pretty much it. It's hard to pick a favorite episode for her, though I think I could go for the two final episodes of the first season. The notebook reveal scene is amazing.

Raj: the baby ever. Not a baby actually, but he is adorable with Bowie, though I already said it before. I love the hockey bros. Do I think Raj should have got Wayne's place in the second season? Yeah, but as I've said for Damien, I think fifth is a respectable placement. Favorite episodes, I'd say either 6 of the first season, the best kiss episode of the reboot, or 5 of the second, where he finally confronts Bowie once and for all about the cheating, and they make up for good as most good couples do. You know, like normal people.

Ripper: the man, the mith, the legend. He is fun. No matter how much people hates him, and how much the reboot itself wants you to hate him, he has some great moments that I can't ignore. And I like how in the first season he was actually almost smart for most of the challenges, especially in the cassowary one. Though I'd say my favorite for him is episode 4 of the second season, where he shows to know the others quite a bit. And I loved his poem for Axel, it was actually adorable how he put together both of their hobbies in it.

Scary Girl: well. She's fun. She's there. She's there to be fun. Overrated (I still can't get over people saying she should have won, because no she doesn't), but still enjoyable for what she has to do. Favorite episodes for her either 2 or 3 of the first season.

Wayne: as I said, I love the hockey bros. And rewatching the whole reboot, I came to the decision that while yes, Raj would have probably been a better finalist than him, between the three we actually got he was the best option for the victory. Julia would have been unfair to all the others. Caleb was basically just trying and failing to seek revenge for Priya, and he was barely liked by his own team. While Wayne is a good representation of a finalist who's had fun throughout the season, rather than being overly competitive. You can see it when he has the wackiest adventures during each challenge. He actually has fun, and you have fun with him. We already got a competitive winner in the first season, so why not have one who actually enjoys being there for a change? Plus, I think the authors made it plenty clear that the bros are their favorite too. Favorite episode I'd say the second of the first season, where he gets to show off his leadership skills.

Zee: just like Scary Girl, he is there, and he is fun. I love that he has the dumbest eliminations, but they feel completely in-character for him. And I love how they treated his disability in a fun way rather than it being some angsty shit that I honestly think would have just taken away from the character. Favorite episode either 2, 6 or 9 from the first season.

Overall, this cast is great. I don't think it would be a reach to say I prefer them over the original cast, though I would need to rewatch the rest of td to confirm it.

This episode had so many highlights!

MK and Ripper were absolute gems this episode. The scene where they argued with Raj on who should strip the guard was peak writing.

Priya and Scary Girl are finally on good terms with each other. It'd be a shame if something bad were to happen to that.

Bowie got taken out rather early which gave time for Raj to interact with his other teammates.

Julia cussing out Priya as she got stretched and getting creeped out by the latter's blooming friendship with Scary girl were hilarious.

Wayne and Emma also got a moment to themselves involving her relationship with Chase which was cute.

The ending however, was a mixed bag. On one hand, we got to see a previously eliminated contestant again even if it was just for a few minutes. On the other hand, I wasn't a fan of the elimination.

My thoughts on season 2 so far!!

The episodes are in order but some of the notes might be out of order

Most of these are from when I was still watching it. Some of them are just my thoughts afterwards

Spoilers for episodes 1 through 4

Episode 1

-Everyone’s reactions to the floor opening up underneath them 😭

-The hockey bros hugging :’) I am going to be talking about them a lot.

-Everyone looks absolutely MISERABLE on the dock

-Emma being mean to Nichelle :(

-Raj is fishing!!

-Oh I like challenges like these!! I like it when we get to learn more about the contestants

-Priya hasn’t mentioned Millie at all in this episode which is surprising. I thought she’d be more upset about Millie’s elimination

-Ok so Emma thinks she’ll do well in this challenge

-“Why are they wearing life jackets?” “For safety :/“ ADFGDGDHD

-Terry’s line delivery is so good

-Raj is first :) he looks so happy about playing fair

-Bowie and Wayne were so concerned when Raj fell 😭

-Zee :) I am worried that he will be eliminated soon but I am glad he is still here

-Wayne looks so nervous about picking the wrong answer

-Emma got another answer wrong

-Nichelle is doing really well this season!! I mentioned before that she’s more confident, but she also definitely seems to still be upset about how Hollywood treated her

-I think Nichelle is going to make it to the merge this season hopefully

-Ripper :)

-I don’t usually like miscommunication plots. I don’t think I like the fact that Priya thinks that Caleb is flirting with her. He doesn’t seem to be flirting with her on purpose, it seems more like he just wants to be in an alliance with her

-MK and Julia still want to cheat but Bowie seems a little more hesitant about it now despite still going along with it

-Priya is tricking Emma into giving them the right answers 😭
