Masc:

Becoming an effective team member and contributor: how did you utilise the support of your supervisor/co-workers to help build your confidence and become more efficient as an intern (this may include feedback, training or other support/opportunities).

To begin my internship experience, I would say I was rather timid and was not confident in asking for help and therefore looked in to doing a lot of the more straightforward tasks that perhaps I wouldn’t require much help with. However, as I went along, I became a lot more comfortable and confident, not only in myself, but also with the people I was working with and my supervisors.

I really enjoyed getting feedback, whether that was a very small piece or not. It definitely helped majorly and went a long way to me meeting briefs and expectations. Not only did I receive constructive feedback when I could have perhaps done things differently, but I also received plenty of positive feedback which played a major role in the increase of my confidence during my tenure at Squash & Racquetball Victoria. It was good to know when you were doing things correctly, the way they wanted it and to a standard in which they approved of.

I worked rather closely with fellow intern, Adi, in the opening 100 hours of the internship experience. We created and posted some content together and worked through some other tasks. Adi lead some of the social programs at MSAC that was hosted by Squash & Racquetball Victoria and I generated some content for those programs.

Personally, I thought we bounced ideas off each other very well and were able to come up with designs that both Karl and Prayansh were satisfied with. Having that sort of approval of a fellow intern meant that my confidence was built when sending through designs to Karl or Prayansh, as I knew that someone else was satisfied with my work.

Microsoft Teams was the main point of contact for us at Squash & Racquetball Victoria. It was a new application to me as I hadn’t used it up to that point. I found my feet quite easily within Teams and it wasn’t long until I found out just how accessible and how quickly my supervisor(s) responded. The quick replies made it a lot easier to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner. This in turn, made it easier to be an effective intern and contributor to the team.

The more I was able to cooperate with my supervisor(s) the easier it got to build on that lack of confidence that I had begun the experience with. It made it a lot easier for me to ask questions and find out exactly what they wanted for each task so that I wouldn’t have to redo it if it didn’t achieve standards. On reflection, this was quite a major part of personal development in building confidence.

“Teams are pervasive in today's world, and rightfully so as we need them” (Salas et al., 2014). The nature of working in teams in working environments nowadays is so crucial and therefore workers of any experience are required to fit into the mold in order for the entire team to work well together.

-This is the 16th year for the CCBdance Project.  Celia Weiss Bambara became solo director of the company in 2012 carrying on the work begun with co-founder Christian Bambara during his illness. During this ten year period the company taught and performed in Burkina Faso, the Ivory Coast, Mali, Senegal, France, Germany, North Carolina, New York, California, Maryland, and Michigan. In 2015, the CCBdance Project became a non-profit in the Ivory Coast as well as a fiscally sponsored entity in the United States. Celia created site dance work, installations, dance films, improvisations, work with students and large scale solo and small ensemble pieces. This spring, celebrating this spirit of resilience and regeneration we will show repertory dance work at Coppin State University in Baltimore and site dance or dance film created by students at Coppin and possible visiting artists. We will also create a new dance film with collaborators and students and some movement research/improvisation as an installation in a parking lot  West Baltimore.

Olympic swimming has been great and having this outdoor stadium pool so close by is pretty cool Big shout out to a Paralympic swimmer @wheelzfit , who is spending his birthday in hospital with broken legs. Hope U get better buddy and get in the pool soon. I had a rehab mishap and arm slipped out, weighed up my options and thought I would take to the pool and just be very careful.
