Broken Whole
The modern age ended 15 years ago and what's left is broken countries, waring states, and a hidden society of mysticism revealed. A letter arrived for Jacob, a Godless Priest, saying that he inherited his father's land: a tiny island and its church. A Ghost of Worship lives within those walls, meanwhile a predictor in the trappings of religion lives without. The island is a new life for Jacob, a community to nurture, a new faith to found, and a past to confront. A collection of Broken people and Broken things gather, and together they might be able to make a Whole.

Thinking about how everything I personally create and any commentary on or experience I have with a piece of media will intrinsically be in conversation with Homestuck in a fundamental way that will be entirety incomprehensible to anyone who wasn't on the MSPA forums from like 2012—2014.
Very wistful about that. It's like a cultural mindset. Calling Homestuck "influencial" on how I create and interact with media is like saying that the Biblical canon was "influencial" on European history and culture. Homestuck was my culture. It was omnipresent and foundational to every artistic sensibility I developed as a teenager and young adult.
And yet if ever something I wrote got famous I feel like even if a team of literary analysts pored over it and added meticulous footnotes I feel like there'd be stuff that would be incommunicable in the true visceral sense because of lack of personal exposure to the Homestuck zeitgeist and the nuances of its symbolic and thematic vibes when it was still super huge.
Or maybe I'm underestimating the degree to which others can grok foreign context, but it's for sure something most people will miss when just, talking to me. And I spent so many years assuming other people I spoke to had that same experience that sometimes even now I forget most people don't share it.

homestuck page 82 is the title page of homestuck. it's a slow pan-out of john's house as the narration talks about how isolated and depressed they are despite being surrounded by other houses and life, culminating with a shot of the skaian sun and the title drop.
the final page of homestuck begins with a shot of the skaian sun and a "thanks for playing" message, slowly and wordlessly panning into john's house surrounded by other houses and life. the comic began with a young man named John Egbert celebrating their 13th birthday stuck in their home, and ended with a young adult named John Egbert celebrating their 18th birthday still stuck in their home. the mspa reader never beat homestuck, just like they never beat jailbreak or bard quest.

Hello monsieur davekatsucks. Sorry if this is a lot but your cherub talk reminded me. I am thinking about how hypocritically sexualized all the friendsim trolls were. You know, on the planet whose society's whole deal is that *only kids live there*... and then one of the authors said Chahut would be over 18 earth years of age like that matters? It's a whole different society man, they aren't considered adults until they go off planet, they would think you're a sicko, it's just another "erm she's actually technically 30 she's just a species that ages slower" argument (mixed with a fun flipped sprinkling of "erm actually the age of consent in some places is xyz"!) except all of the antis bought it this time because they personally thought the character was hot and that justifies as many loopholes in their logic as need be to make them not feel icky or ever have to think about their own capacity to do bad things. It's almost like the randomly generated number they stick on the wiki page for a character doesn't matter at all in comparison to how mature they look and act! You're so close to getting it!!!! Idk I'm tired. And randomly paranoid that tumblr won't keep me anon for this ask, if it's not then kmn ig
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It doesn't help as well that Chaut also tells Amisia that she knows trolls YOUNGER than her that have already in quadrants. So that implies someone as young as say 3-4 years old, would have a boyfriend or girlfriend. Maybe she doesn't imply outright sex or do pailing, but it shows that trolls in Alternia are aware of how their species reproduce and the consequences if they contribute for the Mother Grub. Just try to comprehend someone as young as that would have to know about sex and said child is told if they don't contribute to sex, they will DIE. By that logic, if someone as young as that could start a quadrant, then that means age gap would be NOTHING since they are all kids and they need to fuck with someone else to make future troll babies. If Alternia is not just a dangerously environmental planet that grooms aliens about racism and violence, it's also a breeding ground for the young. The other time WhatPumpkin backed down on the Hiveswap Trolls being older than the humans was with Hiveswap Act 2 where Elwurd would flirt with Joey. It has been implied in Elwurd's route in Hiveswap Friendsim that she is or close to an age of adulthood that she would have to leave the planet when she tells MSPA Reader that she and her ex (Bronya) wanted to request combat assignments on the same ship so they won't be separated.
Tumblr media
Nobody was sure how old Joey was and people think she is 12 or 13. It wasn't until Homestuck Team in a Curious Cat question that they clarify that Joey is 14 years old since she was born in the year 1980, that Elwurd was 16 and Bronya was 17. But that raises the question on what can be considered adulthood at this point if someone like Elwurd and Bronya could request early to be on the same group before they can leave the planet for good. And knowing that most Jadebloods would have be sent to isolation upon adulthood, a request for a cerulean and jade to be together might be rare, but could be possible if planned ahead of time. So would the years of 16-18 are considered the early stages of young adulthood before becoming legal adults? So wouldn't that mean Elwurd will still be older than Joey in that regard because in Elwurd's POV and stance within Alternian society, she is already an adult at that point. And yeah, the trolls in Friendsim are kind of sexualized. At least by the end in Lanque's route where Ardata reminds you that the Hiveswap Friendsim game is for MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY. And the Bad End in Lanque's route if you confirm you are an adult, is him and MSPA Reader (You) having a ONE NIGHT SEX STAND. Sure it fades out to black, but they don't beat around the bush that the two of them FUCKED. Lanque is stated in that same CuriousCat question that he is 18. So if the person playing the game was like 13 when they first played this game and would think MSPA Reader is the same age as them.... then yeah, that makes it all worse because of that 5 year age gap.

The homestuck age poll rb is crazy because Im pretty sure i got into homestuck sometime in 2015 when i was 12, waaaaaaay too young to be reading it. I think the comic was definitely aimed at young adults for the obvious reasons of the amount of cursing and sexual humor. Homestuck always reminded me of sitting at a school lunch table, a bunch of not so supervised kids hanging out doing whatever. But I think homestuck is written more as a reminisce of childhood rather than living through it of you catch my drift. I think thats why it was such a massive appeal to different age groups, older and younger audiences find it relatable and entertaining. But then again i remember picking up a physical copy of the book and it apparently said it was rated +16, like ok if you say so
Yeah, I agree that it's written more from a perspective of nostalgia for childhood than as something kids are necessarily meant to read. Which amusingly results in a comic whose main characters are "too young" to read it if you go by the rating, haha.
And honestly, I think that 16+ sounds like about the right rating for it. Like, I'm not gonna say kids SHOULDN'T be reading Homestuck, because I definitely read some pretty "adult" books at that age.* But I think it's more appropriate for older teens than for, well, 12-year-olds.
Really, I'm pretty sure the original intended audience -- or at least expected audience -- were people who were in their 20s when Homestuck first started in 2009. Probably people who grew up playing text-based and point-and-click adventure games. People who had lots of nostalgia for 80s movies. People with online friends that they communicated with over AOL Instant Messenger, which Pesterchum is an obvious pastiche of.
Because, really, a lot of the references characters make throughout the comic are to media from Hussie's childhood, rather than media that someone who was 13 in 2009 would have been likely to care about. The entire conceit of MSPA in general, where the audience (and later some imagined reader/player) is giving "commands" to the characters, is based off of old school adventure games. And especially in early Homestuck, Hussie made no real effort to make the comic accessible to people who aren't at least passingly familiar with most of that stuff I mentioned.
So I think it says a lot about Homestuck's strengths that it evolved to appeal to all sorts of people outside of that original demographic! That even if a lot of the references go over your head, there's still so much to like about the characters and the plot and the world that it doesn't even matter. That's really cool, I think.
* Based on the title, the Schrödinger's Cat trilogy sounded right up 12-year-old-me's alley. How was I supposed to know how obscenely raunchy it was? Turned out it was bad enough that I quickly decided I wasn't old enough for it and came back to it a couple years later (which was arguably still too young for a book where a major subplot revolves around a character's severed penis)

Hello! I hope your vacation went well.
Can I request MSP Reader and the hiveswap trolls with purple blood reader (the adult reader from the headcanons with highblood reader helping Signless and his group and who is now Male Condesce's matesprit)
Reader is on Alternia because Condesce is here to kill the Heir to the throne, and she thought of taking a walk while he's doing his business.
She meets MSP Reader by pure chance, and MSP Reader's quest for friendship pushed them to become friend with reader.
After becoming friends, MSP Reader (separately) told their troll friends that they wanted them to meet their new friend and asked if they could come to their hive with reader. The trolls accepted, not thinking that this new friend is reader, the matesprit of the emperor and well-known figure in alternia (even if her traitorous acts aren't known).
They were all scared at first, but reader is nice and respectful and is happy to talk to other trolls than Condesce.
For Chahut's part, it would be funny that she takes MSP Reader and Reader to the clown church (location that reader DESPITES with all her heart) and she had a insult fight with The Grand Highblood.
Thanks!
Platonic headcanons Unexpected friend
🤍 MSPA Reader ♦️fem purpleblood!Reader 📫
Reader has been wandering around Alternia for a long time, finding more and more friends. However, he knew that there were only teenagers on Alternia. That's what he thought until he met you. You were an adult troll, but he had no idea who exactly you were. However, he didn't feel any danger around you. You were surprised to see him. You would never have thought that you would meet such a strange creature, and even more so, you did not think that you would make friends with him
Reader was sincerely glad that he was able to meet such a friendly adult troll. You told him that you arrived on Alternia with your matesprite, but while he was busy, you could safely walk around the neighborhood. Reader invited you to meet his friends. He didn't know exactly who you were and he was sure that you could get along with his friends, but when he saw the fear in their eyes, he didn't understand why they were so afraid of you until they told him who you were
It was hard for him to believe that you were cruel. For all the time that you talked, he could have sworn that you were kind. Only a little while later, his friends told him that despite the fact that you were close to the emperor, you were not as cruel. There were rumors that you helped trolls from other castes, and someone even said that you were part of a rebellion that happened a long time ago. No one knew what rumors could be believed, but Reader wanted to believe that you were a good person
You knew for sure that if Condesce found out about the existence of Reader, then the alien could have serious problems. That's why you decided not to let this happen. You've already lost a lot of people close to you and you didn't want anyone else to get hurt
💚 Daraya Jonjet ♦️fem purpleblood!Reader 🖤
Daraya was surprised when Reader said he wanted to introduce her to his friend. However, she did not expect that this friend would be you. Daraya knew a little about who you are. She knew that you had been Condesce's right-hand man for a very long time and it could be dangerous. However, when she saw you, you didn't look like the cruel troll that some thought you were. You looked like someone who had been through a lot of bad things in her entire life
You were sitting quietly together in an abandoned shopping mall and you really weren't as bad as Daraya thought. You were quiet, calm, and you knew a lot. You remembered well what Alternia used to be. Daraya listened to your stories about the past. You remembered the past with a wistful smile. For you, it was a long-lost past that you could share with few people
You told her about the distant planets you visited. Together with Condesce you have been to many places and seen many different things, but you really missed Alternia. Despite the fact that your homeland has changed during the time that you were gone, you were glad to return. Daraya showed you many different places, no longer feeling anxious about you. You really were much better than other adults
Daraya knew that soon you would leave the planet again, and a new stage would begin on Alternia due to the change of heir, but while you were there, you helped her prepare for life when there would be changes on the planet. Daraya was good and she didn't deserve to suffer because of the actions of your matesprite
💙 Tyzias Entykk ♦️fem purpleblood!Reader ☕
Reader knew that Tyzias was interested in history in some sense, so he decided to introduce her to you. You witnessed many events and Reader was sure that you would be able to tell her a lot. However, when Tyzias saw you, she was scared. She knew exactly who you were, even though she didn't know you personally. She knew how long you had been with Condesce and was afraid that you might find out that she wanted to change her life on Alternia
She was wary of you for a long time until you yourself started talking about the past. Reader told you that Tyzias was looking for information about the revolution and you immediately realized that it was about the revolution that you once helped. You didn't mind telling her the truth, knowing that she wouldn't tell anyone that you once helped those about whom she had been looking for information for so long
She listened to your stories in shock. It was hard for her to believe that you, the one who was close to the emperor, the one who was considered his right hand, helped those who opposed the ruler. You knew things that could not be found out in any book or in any document available to her, and you were happy to share your knowledge. For her, it was valuable information, and for you, it was stories from your life that you kept to yourself for a long time, not being able to talk to anyone about it
Tyzias knew how much you both were risking because of the topic of your discussion, but you weren't going to let anyone hurt her or her loved ones. You've already failed once and were much more determined. You've lived long enough to think about a huge number of options, and now even if a new revolution was brewing, you were ready to help and this time to prevent failure
💜 Chahut Maenad ♦️fem purpleblood!Reader 🪓
Reader was sure that you and Chahut would be able to find a common language, because you were from the same caste, at least he hoped that was the case. When you and Chahut met she was surprised to see you. She expected that the strange alien's new friend would be anyone but you. You really were from the same caste and she had heard a lot about you. You were the only purpleblood troll whom the emperor allowed to come to him. You were the emperor's right-hand man and were known not only among your caste. Some were afraid of you, but Chahut treated you with respect
You treated her gently, seeing her as a child, because you were much older than her, but you were wondering what your caste had become after so many years of your absence from the planet. However, when she brought you to church, she saw the irritation on your face. Only those who knew you personally knew how much you disliked the clown church. But most of all, Chahut was surprised when she saw how you behaved when Grand Highblood contacted them
You and Grand Highblood have known each other for many years and each of your meetings ended with you swearing, and this meeting was no exception. Chahut watched in surprise as you and Grand Highblood swore like two teenagers. When the connection was interrupted, you continued to grumble, but Chahut saw that some of the rumors about you were just rumors
You knew that you had enough time to chat with Chahut and tell her what you knew. You understood that she would have to leave the planet soon, but you didn't want her to get hurt or die. You knew better than anyone what was waiting for adult trolls and you hoped that you could save as many people as possible

My thoughts on the Toby Fox "discourse" that twitter keeps going through in cycles, as asked by no one
F Slur in Earthbound Rom Hack
that rom hack was made over a decade ago and when he was a teenager, and anybody who's been a tee ( especially on the internet and especially during peak "live tv commercials telling people not to say gay as a casual insult" era) knows how poorly they're taught how to act, and the dumb things they'll find funny at the time
he has repeatedly and preemptively said that he's ashamed of that rom hack and doesn't look fondly of it, claiming a lot of it hasn't aged well, even as people forgive him for it
the only reason it's brought up is because it's seen as a footnote in the "coming of age of toby fox" so people keep looking for it
none of this means that people CAN'T be disappointed with his use of the word, or personally cutting him off, as regardless of how much one person can reclaim a slur and be fine with it, another person can still be harmed by its use and be hurt by it
At the end of the day, he is still (as far as it's any of our business to know) a cis white straight guy with a traceable early internet presence, and it's up to YOU whether his impact for making undertale/deltarune and all the queer characters and stories those have and inspired, makes up for the use of a slur, regardless of growth of character, but you shouldn't be surprised if other people give him a pass
The Baby is You
a shitpost rock opera made only two years after the previously mentioned rom hack
as far as I know, aside from musically referencing it in a pokemon game (purposefully or not), he has never brought up this work
it is primarily a joke album about how the official Homestuck forums (formally known as the MSPA Forums) disallowed ANY depiction of pregnancy (including adult pregnancy) while allowing more problematic instances involving minor and related characters
the work, itself, makes that blatantly clear when it stops itself to either go on nonsensical tangents that mean nothing, or outright states its issue with said hypocrisy or its own inane nature
again, that doesn't mean people aren't allowed to personally be uncomfortable with it or some of its content (ultimately it's still mpreg involving teenagers, even if jokes about mpreg weren't new [remember that one Jimmy Neutron episode where Carl had alien jellyfish babies?]),
it's still an early 2010s homestuck fanwork, and homestuck is already overly infamous for its fans, the people who worked on it, and being a reflection of the overall internet environment it found itself in
Comparisons to Omocat
Omocat was an adult making jokes about being a pokemon to abduct children, selling shirts (inadvertently or purposefully) referencing certain types of works involving children (the word on its own is innocent, but with added context of her behavior, it's reasonably questionable), and was then able to work on an official pokemon shirt involving said pokemon
her main OC, eventually adapted to a standalone game and removing the ick tied to its inception, heavily stems from this era
many people have talked to her about this and much of her behavior for years with her ranging from brushing it off to making acknowledgements about these complaints in apology posts
regardless, there has been collaboration between both omocat and toby fox, and many other indie developers, as its an industry that encourages collaboration and mutual support
Ultimately, whether this constitutes as "dumb terminally online adult" behavior that she could have learned from, something to be used as a reason to dissuade people away from supporting her is, and how much discomfort with this information extends to those who have collaborated with her is up to you
regardless, the main difference is that
one was a dumb teenager surrounded by equally dumb teenagers making edgy content, holding no position of authority over those affected by said content, with clear signs that they've moved away from that behavior
the other was a dumb adult digging themselves deeper while openly making comments about children and not having much to show that they've grown, arguably profiting off said behavior
For as much as you can compare the "fujo community" as being as self-poisoning as terminally online teens: the main source of contention is Omocat being an adult, not having changed, and will always be supported by people who share the same or worse ideas because she's never really denounced them, while homophobic UT/DR fans will never be catered to, and Toby Fox has clearly grown from who he was as a teen, regardless of people who absolutely DO NOT owe him forgiveness for what he did then.

#Howdy neighbor!
here's a few things about this blog to get you started! (i go by he/it pronouns)
my blog is mdni because i said so and suggestive behavior (it used to be 16+ but i'm adulting now and wish to have a piece of the internet to myself that i can share whatever i want whenever i want) HOWEVER, my blog is not strictly nsfw.
i do not like being referred to as human, you don't like it idc, this is just for online. call me a thing that's sentient or saurian i don't really care. i am also a mspa reader (pesterquest and friendsim) and benry/benrey fictionkin heavily
my blog is NOT a safe space for your bigotry. i do NOT support people who think being a system or in a system is a plaything/something you can switch on and off and use to roleplay with, i do NOT support proship/profic/comship whatever you're nasty. i will block you if you make me uncomfy (if we randomly block you and you didn't do anything i'm sorry. i can't keep track of why or who we blocked all the time)
i am a computer kisser and monster hugger, i'm also on the ace spectrum
i use tone tags and would appreciate them used on my blog!

TrashWizzard's RP Blog Rules and Preferences
This is not an exhaustive list, but here are some guidelines before interacting with me. These are my personal preferences, not universal law nor judgment of anyone else's style of play. It's simply what I prefer for myself. Everyone enjoys their fiction differently, and that's ok :)
Firstly, I am an adult. I would prefer to rp with others who are 18+.
I am also 🏳️‍🌈very queer🏳️‍🌈, as are my characters. If you have questions about their identities, preferences, or my own please feel free to ask! My OOC pronouns are They/Them.
It goes without saying that bigots, homophobes, TERFs and assorted hate groups DNI. I'm literally Just A Guy who enjoys writing fictional things about made up people. Deal with it 🤙
I'm brand new to roleplaying in Tumblr format, so bear with me as I learn the ropes. I live on Discord, and depending on the circumstances I am also open to rp on there as well.
Roleplaying preferences under the cut:
Yes
✅ Etiquette
Please be familiar with general roleplaying etiquette as well as common terms (such as Godmoding, Meta Knowledge, and IC / OOC). I am an adult with a full-time job and many interests. I will try to respond as often as I can, but please be patient if my replies are not immediate. Usually planning to reply at least once a day, sometimes more if our schedules line up well. I am a literate roleplayer, usually opting for and preferring paragraphs or descriptive posts; however I do enjoy rapid-fire script style as well.
✅ Original Characters Only
Show off your fantrolls, maybe even human ocs? No matter the fandom, I want to see your original characters only.
✅Canon-Adjacent
My characters are designed to flow well with MSPA (or the appropriate fandom's) canon as much as I can, but that isn't an unbreakable standard. Some things I have bent or changed because it's fun, straying just far enough to make unique and interesting divergences from canon. Nothing super crazy.
✅Character Arcs and Ongoing Plots
We love to see it!! It would be awesome to collaborate with other roleplayers I find I really vibe with. I would love nothing more than to create an expansive story with intertwined details among characters.
✅ Alliances and Rivalries
Plotting! Scheeeming! Sometimes this happens naturally, but I'm usually open to planning things ahead of time if it seems fun 👀 No worries about metagaming here, I'm generally very good at keeping OOC knowledge compartmentalized from my IC knowledge.
✅ Mature Themes
!! I do not mean smut, sex, erp, etc. !! I love darker themes and angst in my writing. Most of my characters are probably traumatized in one way or another, and some of those themes may be uncomfortable. I generally keep mentions to vague allusions, or don't go into great detail (especially if it's not private rp or with someone I know fairly well). This might include topics such as substance abuse, depression, mortality and other heavy subjects. Life is not always gentle. But the harder they fall, the more fulfilling the redemption.
✅ Slice of Life
As a lighter alternative, I do enjoy fluff, exposition, and slice of life scenarios. Well-placed comedy in rp is one of my favorite takeaways, and some of my characters can be very silly! This is also a great way to break the ice and get to know new friends/characters, and maybe work our way to bigger plots.
____________________
Ask First
❕Shipping
I am unlikely to ship my characters with a stranger's OCs. I'd prefer to ship with friends, if anyone.
❕Character Harm or Death
Falls under mature themes as described above, but please get my consent before trying anything. I'm usually not opposed to letting my guys have a bad day, especially if it helps with growth or plot progression.
____________________
No
❌ Writers under the age of 18
❌ Erotic roleplay
❌ Canon Characters
❌ Joke Characters
Short interactions with joke characters might be okay but that's not my preference overall. Part of my roleplay enjoyment comes from taking my fake people seriously.
❌ Fully Broken Lore or Unreasonable Selfmade Canon
(MSPA specific) If your glitterbloods and half cherubs bring you joy then I am happy for you; but they don't have a place in my cast's lore, I apologize :( My guys wouldn't know how to react.

I almost forgot Lanque exists and that he apparently caused a bunch of havoc starting with him being apparently trans (which would to this discussion too as a trans, but no struggle so might aswell be cis), but causing ruckus because of hussie's worldbuilding and people not knowing if jadebloods are mostly or exclusively female and him being trans literally gave no info, while also disappointing folks who yearned for a violetblood. Also his friendsim route with things like making Diemen do drugs and wanting to bang MSPA reader and also nipples - which I didn't find that interesting as Damara confirmed the existence of nipples way before that, but it was kinda a big deal with Lanque then. Lanque sure was controversial, but hell if it wasn't an interesting time reading about him way back when people were exploding with excitement.
It was kind of funny seeing that people think he is trans, but once his route came out and had the adult route showing him being a perverted asshole, people want to imagine the flower crown uwu baby route is the better option to what his personality is really like. I imagine him as a genuine male jadeblood born as he is. But if people want to get antsy about transition, then fine, due to advance technology by Atlernia, Lanque's gender change went by smoothly and he can be a man forever because he hated the way female jadebloods lives will end up as a lonely virgin. So he takes advantage of being a guy and fucks whenever he feels like. No pills or drugs needed to help him maintain his look. Alternia's planet is high tech enough to make shit like gender change possible just like how they have holes installed in troll's homes that allows them to heal their flesh and bones easily by sticking in it. He seems to have dialed down the perverted doucheness in Hiveswap Act 2, but I want to see more of his awful side.
