さてさて…

Effects bakeryのクリームパンブースターですが、大きい音で試してみてもHX-StompのEP擬きと音の違いがよくわからず、これならHXので良いか〜…と、なりまして。

OD系の音が最近必要になってきたのでMXRのDuke of Toneを仕入れて仕込んでみました。YouTubeでみて良さそうだったのと、コレならスペースに収まりそうだったので…

実際に音出しした感想は…コレ、良いですね〜。最初はちょっとハイ寄り過ぎると思ったのですが、それもトーン絞り気味にすれば問題無しでした。ギター側のボリューム操作にもしっかり追随してくれるし。全体的にゲインは低めであるけれど、ゲイン上げても音が破綻しないし、自分が苦手なTS系みたいなやり過ぎコンプ感も無し。もう一台欲しいくらいです。

The Psych

This is the main FX buss, coming out of the mixer. While you see three boxes, there’s really only two components:

MXR Flanger

The same one used by Eddie Van Halen. Well, okay, this one wasn’t used by Eddie Van Halen, but you get the point. It’s one of the best modulators I’ve found and it’s really, really simple. The only problem is it can flip the phase of the signal, which can cause issues mixing it back in with the clean signal. The StageBug in front of it solves the problem.

My favorite trick for adding dynamics to a simple groove is to use a delay with an offset beat. For example, if the groove is all eighth notes, just set the delay to sixteenths and it suddenly gets much deeper.

This is pretty much every delay I could ever want. And it connects to MIDI, so I can be sure things are in time. My only headache was that I had to manually change the subdivisions of the delay every time I started recording. It defaults to quarter notes of the MIDI tempo, when I wanted shorter divisions. I’m sure I missed something in the setup, though.
