You might think breathing through your mouth isn’t a big deal, but it actually is. A lot of us end up breathing through our mouth without even realizing it, which can significantly impact our overall health including but not limited to our airway health, quality of sleep, posture, heart health, dental health and even our facial structure. Myofunctional therapy aims to fix bad habits like breathing through the mouth, the low tongue posture and incorrect swallowing.

So while I've been attempting to do the stretches and things I'm supposed to be doing after the actual cutting of my tongue tie, until today everything's been too sore to do very well at it. It's hard to tell because it no longer looks the same as before (that is, scorched from the laser) but I'm really hoping I haven't had any level of reattachment and that I'm still just sore and need to continue with the exercises. But I've got a follow-up cleaning in November, so I guess if there's an issue they can tell me then.

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy, which Total Speech Therapy uses, aims to fix problems with muscle function that can have a big effect on many areas of a person's life, such as their dental occlusion, facial shape, chewing, swallowing, and the positions at which their tongue, lips, and jaw rest. Total Speech Therapy distinguishes itself by dedicating its efforts to delivering tailored care, fully understanding that not everyone with a tongue thrust experiences speech-related issues and vice versa. As a result, they customize their therapy to meet the unique needs and challenges of each individual.

Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMD), which they comprehensively address, can have a profound impact on a person's oral and facial well-being, leading to issues such as dental malocclusions and jaw growth abnormalities. Total Speech Therapy highlights that common OMDs include tongue thrusting, open-mouth resting posture of the lips, forward resting of the tongue, and thumb, finger, or tongue sucking, all of which can affect dental health and facial appearance. Furthermore, Total Speech Therapy's pioneering treatment also encompasses concerns related to the airway and tethered oral tissue.
To achieve optimal results, Total Speech Therapy is intensive and requires unwavering commitment. Daily practice is essential and should be incorporated multiple times a day, including during meals. The experienced and licensed therapists at Total Speech Therapy work closely with each patient, devising a personalized treatment plan that targets the individual's specific concerns and goals.
