Last July, CIA Director William Burns told two Bolsonaro ministers that the president should stop attacking the electoral system.

Electoral tensions rose again on Saturday night, when Marcelo Arruda, a da Silva backer and Workers' Party official, was shot dead by a man who, witnesses told the police, had shouted support for Bolsonaro before pulling the trigger. The investigation is ongoing, but the killing reignited fears of political violence on the campaign trail, which officially begins in August.

“We don’t need to fight. Our weapon is our calmness, the love we have inside of us, our thirst of making people’s lives better,” da Silva said at the rally. “We don’t have to react to (Bolsonaro's supporters') provocations. If anyone teases you, tell them to go bite themselves. Go home and take care of your families. That’s the lesson we need to teach.”

You say sorry, turn your back, and the job is done. No, it is the assumption of responsibility for the future of the good and bad things we did in the past”, he said.

According to Portugal’s head of State, colonisation of Brazil had some positive factors, “the language, the culture, the unity of Brazilian territory”.

But the negatives were “the exploitation of the indigenous people (…) slavery, the sacrifice of the interests of Brazil and Brazilians.

“The worst of our presence that we must assume, just as we assume the best of that presence. And the same can be said of the best and the worst, the worst and the best of our presence in the empire throughout colonisation”, he concluded.

There was a politically and hatred motivated assassination here in Brasil yesterday.

Long story short, there will be presidential elections this year, and the political scenario is... Heated, to say the least. The dispute is between the current president Bolsonaro, who is basically our Trump, only dumber and more violent, and ex-president Lula, who is a leftist.

So yesterday, a man, Marcelo, was celebrating his 50th birthday and the party was themed Lula, full of red balloon and images of the man. A dude then went by the party, screaming at Marcelo, his family and his guests, threatening them with death, and screaming against Lula and in favor of Bolsonaro, his wife eventually convinced him to leave. Marcelo felt he should get his gun in case that man came back, which he did. He shot Marcelo point blank three times, but thanks to a woman who drop kicked his assailant, Marcelo was able to shoot back and prevent the man from attacking anyone else in the party. Both men are dead now.
