Foggy is woefully underrepresented in the world of Marvel trading cards, so I was really excited when I learned he was going to be included in the new "Beginnings" set... and then I saw the card. This card is... bad. It's a terrible angle, the lighting obscures the character's face, the clothing is bland and a far cry from Foggy's normal clothing, and it just doesn't look like the Foggy Nelson fans love. (To top it off, this picture doesn't actually depict Foggy at all, for complicated plot reasons, but that's another story.) The other cards in this set don't look this bad, or at least *look like the character*, so this was a HUGE disappointment. To top it off, the card layout itself isn't great? It's just generic all around.

So I decided to try and improve it.

After watching a youtube tutorial by a guy who "cleans" pokemon cards (for some reason I am not deep enough in the trading card or pokemon hobby to understand) I found out that I could remove the design from a holographic (and therefore plastic coated) card with some acetatone. Using some plastic washi tape, I marked off the border to keep the "official trading card" aspect intact, but removed the artwork. It took some scrubbing but I got it done with minimal damage to the border.

I purchased clear sticker paper and with some trial and error printing (at the copy shop and eventually at home) I got a decent print on the sticker paper. I used a plain cardsleeve to trace a template based on the card frame (particularly the little circle portrait) and then but the sticker to match and applied it as carefully as I could.

I'm pleased with the way it came out! I like that the sticker print is still a bit translucent so the holographic foil still shows through. I am willing to bet I spent more time and energy "fixing" this card than the printer did designing it in the first place, but ah well. At least I know how to do it!
