Dorks who argue about tool brands are always shouting about team red or team yellow or whatever. WE GOT TEAM GREEN IN HERE. Have you heard of MASTERFORCE? I think that the core issue with the show isn’t that the Maltos exist, but how they’re implemented, since they’re essentially incompatible with the not only with the Terran plot, but the theming of the franchise in general. Then the ensuing struggle between the two incompatible premises create a show that can’t get out of its own way, ensuring no toys are sold.

The two individual premises of the show are on their own, possible success stories. A group of “newborn” Transformers interacting with humans in a post-war environment to keep the peace has shades of Rescue Bots and could be something to interest the kids watching. By the same token, the idea of a group of humans empowered by a mysterious force to defend Earth against the Decepticons and those who want to use that force for evil brings to mind Transformers Masterforce or Brave Command Dagwon.

But combining both premises together, then giving the Maltos the most anti-toyetic tool they possibly could creates a complete mess, a series that can’t reconcile the conflicting premises and as a result, leaves neither side satisfied. Those here for the Terrans resent the Maltos and their talk of family, talk so incessant even Vin Diesel would go “Enough! I get it!” as the Terrans are reduced to sidekick characters for characters that don’t thematically belong in the series, vs giving the humans Transectors to bond with. Those actually here for the Maltos will find the Terrans bolted on and ultimately ineffectual as the show’s hatred of toyetic ideas like power ups renders them incapable of solving their own problems.

And the end result is no one is happy. Not the people here for the family dynamic, not the people here for the Terrans, and assuredly not people wanting to see robots fight.

God, Robby is so annoying. He whines a lot in S2/3. When he gives orders, I just wanna throw up.🤮 Why should they listen to you? Your mom was a lieutenant. You should be discussing plans with others! You are not a soldier and strategist! Get a reality check. I would love someone to smack some sense in him.

And seeing Mo, a ten year old, getting into action by being a “hero” and saving herself and others from death and threats she shouldn’t handle makes me cringe. It’s not fun and easy to avoid dying. I want to do Everything Wrong With so bad. Humans are important, but these Malto brats are the worst.

ES might as well be called The Robby and Mo Show. IMO they're the worst things about it. I'm not opposed to kid characters, but the TFP kids, Cody and Frankie from RB, Rad and Alexis from Armada are actually likable to me.

I'm convinced that part of the reason ES failed is because of how much Robby and Mo are shoved in the audiences faces. They were even prominently featured on a lot of original ES toy packaging. The writing stresses how SPECIAL they are when they'd be nothing without the cyber sleeves. According to the Production Bible, there was actually going to be an episode that had the Terrans and kids getting curb stomped because they let their cockiness get the better of them. Now that would've been interesting character development for them not to rely on the sleeves so much.

A common complaint about the show is that there's no sense of stakes because Robby and Mo just magic the pain away. Although I will say that I'm impressed the cyber sleeves weren't used to resolve the escape room episode in S3. The fight against Mandroid's Moving Lair in Age of Evolution remains one of my favorite things in the show because it was good guys working together and not ass pull powers saving the day.

Let's not forgot that S1 didn't care about Robby, even when he was dying. Now I'm suddenly supposed to care about his love life in S2? It's why I headcanon that everything post S1 is his self insert fanfic. I give him credit for trying to go against the Malto FAMILY thing at points.

Mo is frustrating to me because one moment she'll have more emotional maturity than a lot of adults, then she'll act more like a kid the moment the plot demands it. Her going on and on about FAMILY is also annoying. I still go WTF at her fighting Mandroid in Prime Time.

They don't even show up in my Lotus Au until way later when Mandroid removes the cyber sleeves at the request of Alex and Dot.

They came to the birth of Sparkplug’s grandson, Bumblebee in awe as a tiny hand pawed at his smallest finger.

The thought made Sparkplug shiver. Was his son’s time with his closest friends destined to be a mere blink in the eye for the Autobots? Why should Bumblebee be left behind as Spike moves on?

Using the full processing power of the Mother Computer at Neo Autobot City allowed for a safe and secure mind transfer. Sparkplug had informed Spike of the project near his death, and to his credit never forced the idea upon him. In truth, I see the value in such a technology if used for good and the protection of life, and like any parent Sparkplug wanted to give his child every possible option. That said, only under the threat of death did Spike undergo the transfer. Perhaps as he grew older and reliant on the slavery of the Selectors did he begin to feel some disconnect from the Cybertronians around him… For shame.

As humanity and the Selectors spread out among the stars following the abandonment of Earth, the common adoption of Neo Autobot X technology was but the first step in the multitude of evolutionary branches that would bloom from the humans. If nothing else, it brought the humans and their Selector partners closer together.

I cannot help but see my brothers and sisters in this story. Such great change, all stemming from the love of a father for his son. As humans become Transformers and vice versa, I believe we find the truest glimpse of Primus’ dream.

In my fanmade Transformers continuity that I was cooking up in my head for a significant chunk of high school, Optimus Prime had multiple forms, since I was super inspired by the more anime Transformers series (in particular, Masterforce, Armada, Energon, and Cybertron).

So, Optimus himself was a Minicon (for my non-Transformer fan followers, Minicons are human-sized Transformers). In this continuity, the various “Masters” (Headmasters, Targetmasters, etc.) were all considered types of Minicons (which, from what I can tell, some of the more recent Transformers series have done themselves; to be fair, it’s a pretty obvious idea); more specifically, Optimus was a Headmaster (a human-sized robot that can transform into the head of a larger robot).

So, while he was technically a Minicon, he was usually seen piloting his Transtector (a headless larger robot that had no soul of its own; it existed entirely to be piloted by a Headmaster), which transformed into a truck.

But then, when he needed extra power, his Transtector had its own Transtector- its trailer. So, when he was already combined with his truck, he could further combine with the trailer; his arms and legs would tuck away until he was a cube, and then his trailer would become a new set of limbs. This was his Super Mode.

But, of course, that wasn’t his only option.

The first major arc was just some settling in stuff where he only used his Super Mode, but the second major arc was about stuff that took place in naval settings. Lots of naval Transformers ended up appearing here, such as Tidal Wave and Broadside, as well as an original Combiner group I called the Autobot Navy- Cybershark (the leader, transformed into a shark/battleship fusion, and the only one who wasn’t made up entirely from scratch), Domination (transformed into a cruiser, the older sister of Submission), Submission (transformed into a submarine, the little brother of Domination), Escort (transformed into an old-school aircraft carrier, the little brother of Fleet Carrier), and Fleet Carrier (transformed into a modern aircraft carrier, the older brother of Escort).

Then, the third major arc brought in a third form Optimus could take, with the introduction of Jetfire. Jetfire could also become a new set of limbs for Optimus, allowing Optimus to take more of an air support role.

Then, finally, the fourth major arc introduced Cerebros, who was, in this continuity, one of the Thirteen Original Transformers. Similarly to the Aligned Continuity, the Thirteen all had their own tools that gave them a unique edge. And while Cerebros couldn’t fuse with Optimus... his tool was the Fortress battleship, with which he could combine into Fortress Maximus. And in the fifth major arc, Optimus also gained the ability to combine with the Fortress to become Optimus Maximus.

Masterforce was a huge inspiration because it featured (sort-of) Optimus as a Master (granted, a Powermaster rather than a Headmaster, but still). Armada was a huge inspiration because one of his combination options was Jetfire. Energon was a huge inspiration because one of his combination options was Omega Supreme, which is similar to Fortress Maximus, kinda. And then Cybertron was just an inspiration because that’s the series that introduced me to Transformers and so it’s to blame for my obsession with the more anime-like Transformers style.
