WAIT WHAT HE DOES MENTION?!
HE DOES MENTION BATB WOLVES AND JUNGLE BOOK WOLVES IN HIS PERSONAL STORY!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The ''thief'' is very likely refering to Maurice, in the live action the Beast treats him like a thief after Maurice stole a rose from the castle's garden. And before that he was chased and attacked by wolves in the snow!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only disney moment in which a wolf raised an orphaned baby was in jungle book! Fun fact, the movie's name in brazil is labelled as ''Mogli o Menino Lobo'' meaning ''Mogli the Wolf Boy'' 🐺
UUUUHHH I CANT BELIEVE JACVK ACTUALLY FGUCKING MENTIONED BATB WOLVES IM NOT FINE.IM NOT FINE IM NOT FINE I KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN IKNEW IT IN MY HEART BUT I WASNT PREPARED. THIS IS ALL I EVER WANTED???????????????????EVEN A TINY BIT OF BEAUTY AND THE BEAST CRUMBS IS ENOUGH TO MAKE ME INSANE. IMCRAZY IM CRAZY IM NEVER GOING TO STOP TALKING THIS THIS

Wait, hold up. You wanna run that by me again? People are saying he didn’t deserve to be turned into a beast? When he literally was rude for no reason to that “old lady”?
Yup. Like he was just a teenager, he should be cut some slack, she was setting him up.
But it’s like
Yeah
She was setting him up because she knew he had no love in his heart. Do you know how horrible a King with no love in his heart would be when the Prince grows up? Do you know how awful the “little poor provincial town” would have it in the shadow of a Prince who reaches adulthood with the kind of character and heart that shuts old women out in the cold? The Enchantress did. So she cursed him so that he’d develop into a kind, gentle, loving man. There’s a reason the curse lasted until his twenty-first birthday. That’s adulthood. He had till then to learn to love.
And you know what else?
Of course the castle and servants would be cursed too.
That’s the Beast’s first lesson: you’re being cursed because when you have no love for anything but yourself, it’s the people closest to you who suffer for it. His household is a living object lesson for him to be faced with, day after day, for ten years, about how the consequences of your actions affect more than just you—they affect the people who depend on you. Really important lesson for the King of a kingdom to learn.
Tumblr media
And even if that weren’t enough, which it is, don’t come griping to me about the servants being cursed for something the Prince did. Riddle me this: why is the Prince answering the door? Why isn’t a footman doing that? Why isn’t Lumiere doing that?
Why is it they’re turned into furniture instead of little beasts? Why is the first scene they’re introduced in an old MAN begging for shelter from the bitter cold, and choosing to welcome him in despite “The Master?”
Tumblr media
Why is their big number “Be Our GUEST?”
The answers to those questions aren’t given but it’s strongly implied that, instead of doing their jobs, and instead of standing up to their Master up to and including the incident with the Enchantress, they used to just stand to the side, making no sacrifices, taking no risks.
Tumblr media
The theme of the movie is “true love is self-sacrifice.” Hospitality is one of the most self-sacrificial practices you can engage in. You’re literally making yourself vulnerable: you’re inviting someone into your home, you’re putting their comfort before your own, you’re giving them your hard-earned food and heat and drink and time, you’re allowing them to come into your sanctuary, your safe space, and judge it while you make them comfortable. Be Our Guest, indeed! Standing up to the Master, indeed! They’ve learned their lesson by the time Belle and her father are on the scene.
Tumblr media
The thing is, we love to try and excuse away the responsibility of the main character because we love to try and excuse away our own character flaws. Blame it on trauma. That’s not the point. The point is, for the story to work, and for the fictional kingdom to have a happy ending with a Prince who’s like that, the Beast has to grow out of his character flaws. He has a problem, and it needs solving—how he got the problem is irrelevant.
And there’s just so little chance that a Prince, who has everything in life that he could ever want and is dependent on nobody, for anything, would ever feel the need for love. Or worse, he’d never feel the need to correct himself, or change, or grow in any way. He needed to have some discipline—some MAJOR discipline, some KINGDOM-SAVING discipline—in order to even be the kind of guy that could notice a peasant girl’s self-sacrificial loving nature, much less value her and fall in love with her.
Thank goodness for the Enchantress and the Curse. Or else this fairy tale could’ve turned into the French Revolution.

"I ship like almost everyone with Garderobe"
SHARE!!
i mean. she's hot, right? we're all in agreement that she's hot.
adam had a boyhood crush on her when he was like 11 and fliers announcing her latest tours would arrive in the mail. lumiere would complain when his music magazines got swept away by mysterious little hands and would only crop up later with the good pages ripped out
belle has a little fluttery-heart moment when she actually comes to terms with the fact that the wardrobe that's seen her getting undressed for at least a year and a half is The Greatest Singer of Her Generation. like how would you feel if your closet suddenly came out and casually mentioned she's Florence and the Machine. Would that make you happy or would you be unable to maintain eye contact for a while
congratulations! celine dion has seen you putting your bra on backwards. why are you acting like this isn't wondrous news
mrs potts and garderobe? ooh baby that sings. hot italian romance vs prim-and-proper austen level courtship hijinks. i think this can only go well
cuisinier is actually a super huge opera fan!! he's so happy to finally be able to pull himself out of that kitchen (he never wants to see that kitchen again) and go up and shake the great diva's hand. they sing a duet from the mariage of figaro together and collaborate on the first Entirely Sung Through Cookbook™
listen. listen. i'm not saying all europeans are hot feisty little devils who just love to make out behind curtains, but what I am saying is there's a moment when garderobe and lumiere lock eyes on a certain debauched drunken night and there is. shall we say. a Frisson™
cogsworth is too gay to be involved in any of this (i mean come on now really) but i would pay good money to read the love potion fic where cogsrobe is a temporary reality and we're all blissfully living in it
listen. listen. i like beautiful ladies. i will not fuss if you put garderobe and plumette in a room together. i will not fuss if there are small soft kisses. i will not fuss if the kisses turn into something softer, gentler, wilder. i might pass out though
i have nothing to say about chapeau + garderobe as a pairing besides that I think she could pick him and carry him bridal-style over the threshold while wedding bells chime
garderenza we already know my thoughts on. my thoughts are that i'm in love with it and stanley tucci gets my pension

Belle looking in the magic mirror: Papa! Oh no! He's sick, he may be dying, and he's all alone!
Beast: Then you must go to him.
Belle: What did you say?
Beast: I release you. You're no longer my prisoner.
Belle: No, I meant, you want me to go get him? Do you remember what happened the last time I left the castle in the middle of the night?
Beast: Oh. Wolves. Right.
Belle:
Beast:
Belle: So are you gonna go get my dad or...?
Beast: Yep, you’re right, better plan. On my way.

Disney Parent Backstory for Belle's Parents
(Since I already did the Beast's here)
Tumblr media
Original painting by François Boucher “Shepherd and Shepherdess”
Maurice and Gabrielle
Maurice de Beaumont was born to a well to do merchant family who lived in Paris, the dreamy young son with less than stellar people skills, who would have much rather spent his time inventing then learning the family trade
His elder sister Marguerite had a much better head for both people and finance and would have enjoyed running the family business if she'd had the chance, and always rather resented the fact that Maurice didn't appreciate the opportunity he had to do so
Despite the fact he had no desire for the trade Maurice was resigned to taking over the family business and leaving his dreams of inventing as dreams only--until he met a beautiful young shepherdess one day while out a trip to the countryside
Little did Maurice know that the kind (and surprisingly knowledgeable about the latest advancements in science) shepherdess Gabrielle was actually a fairy, sent out by the Fairy Court to do good deeds and help inspire mortals in fulfilling their worthy dreams.
As  in her journey she had wandered into Our World, a place that was less used to open magic, Gabrielle had disguised herself as a simple country shepherdess tending her flock in the south of France. She was delighted to have discovered the enthusiastic mind of Maurice, working to inspire him in actually creating his inventions
Maurice was soon spending each day of his trip sneaking out to speak with Gabrielle, and the friendship began to quickly turn to deeper feelings, though both felt conflicted over their new feelings
Maurice because he knew his already disapproving family would certainly disapprove even more of his infatuation with a common shepherdess
And Gabrielle because she knew she was an ageless fairy and Maurice was all too mortal
But finally Maurice told her that he was willing to risk his family's wrath and possible disavowal if she was willing to have him, he'd rather live happily in a pasture with her then miserably in a mansion without her
And Gabrielle realized she too would rather  live only a few years with Maurice then an eternity without him
And so she approached the Fairy Queen and asked her to take away her immortality so that she could live out a full mortal life with Maurice.
Several of her friends, ( including s prickly Enchantress she had befriended during her time in Our World) tried to talk her out of it, saying it was foolish to throw away her immortality for a mere mortal. Many of them had loved mortals but they hadn't given up their powers for them. There were always a few mortal children underfoot in the Court and they held them dear, but after all mortals came and went so  quickly.
But Gabrielle persisted, she had lived a long life, centuries, but she'd never felt as fully alive and happy as she did with Maurice. She knew that despite his cleverness he had no latent talent for magic and so could not hope to gain immortality for himself, and so she would give up hers to be with him
And so Gabrielle relinquished her immortality and accepted Maurice's hand, marrying at the end of the summer and journeying back to Paris with him
His family, true to Maurice's predictions, were livid at first, but Gabrielle was so well spoken and charming and clever that they found themselves won over despite themselves, and she was eventually welcomed into the family--she even helped her new father-in-law see sense and give Marguerite control of the business's finances, and the business flourished like never before
For several years Maurice and Gabrielle were incredibly happy, Maurice inventing, Gabrielle inspiring many people, her salons becoming a sought after event. And they were eventually blessed with two daughters, Belle and later Clarice
Unfortunately tragedy ended up touching them, and when Belle was 14, one of the waves of sickness that passed through the city over the last few years carried away most of Maurice's family, including Gabrielle and Clarice
The tragedy left Maurice and Belle devastated both emotionally and financially, but miraculously they discovered among their ruin that they still had the deed to a small cottage in a far off provencal town, where they could start a new life away from the site of their loss…( a little gift from the Enchantress, the least she felt she could do after failing to sense her friend was so ill)
Images of Marguerite and Clarice by Andreas Deja, both deleted characters from an earlier draft of BatB

She's such a cutie I'm so sad she was cut :(

(Also incredibly small detail, but the house that Maurice and Belle move into is what's left of the old mill that was Corinne's home)

one of the nice things about Live Action Remakes is that their terribleness makes me to go back and consider what was working so well about the originals.
Like nope, didn’t like that new Beauty and the Beast—but why? What part was the most awkward/felt the most wrong? Belle. Belle was the most awkward, disjointed-bone element in the Live Action film.
Why? Well, to answer that, I now get to go back and think about how wonderful Belle was, the real Belle, the original Belle, and see where the Live Action missed the mark.
Tumblr media
The first thing I remember feeling really rankled about was this: The original Belle was happy during “Be Our Guest” and dancing. Emma Watson looked like she was smiling patiently and quirking a sassy eyebrow for the sake of humoring a gang of silly children and wanted to get out of there.
Tumblr media
Well, why was the original Belle dancing and smiling, when she was imprisoned and objects were coming to life and dancing?
Because Belle likes enchantment. She’s uniquely ready to enjoy an enchanted castle—because she loves fairy tales. We already saw her enjoying a book about a disguised Prince. She’s not eager to leave the dinner and show to run off and find a way to escape—because she never wanted to escape. She gave her word that she’d stay in the castle and sacrifice her dreams for her father’s sake.
Tumblr media
And when a girl who’s been reading about daring sword fights and true love gives her word, like all the honorable knights and heroes she’s been reading about, she keeps it. And she makes the most of the adventure she’s currently in.
But maybe I never would have thought about how great and subtle and perfect that is if Emma Watson hadn’t totally messed it up.

batb cast wake up in the wrong movies
"i really don't see what you're all screaming about, it's merely a simple case of patching the problem—I did something quite similar with my washing machine, once," says Belle, wondering why everyone thinks this titanic ship they're on is such a big deal
adam is in monsters inc and HOO BOY this is bringing up a lot of past traumas for him (he's finally human and now everyone else is furry and 8 feet tall? what gives?)
lumiere never had being in an egyptian tomb on his bucket list but he's having a great bisexual time flirting with everybody (oh yes there are beetles climbing up his skin but he'll get to that later, this old mummy guy is hOT)
cogsworth is bonding with aliens in hawaii and honestly does not want to go back (finally he's found his people! minus that weird little blue french bulldog that keeps prowling around)
plumette convinces aurora and prince philip to ditch their royal duties and run off to the woods with her as a threesome. the fairies' woodland cottage becomes an HGTV project and they compete against maleficent on the great british bake off, winning her over with a stunning passionfruit croissant with almond glaze
darth vader does not stand a chance against garderobe. the movie is now 10 minutes long.
chip becomes friends with this wild-eyed professor type who kinda reminds him of his gay uncles and they travel back into the past to make sure mr and mrs potts meet at the 'tea for two' high school dance. in the process chip picks up a red life preserver and they murder the town bully
mrs potts is in a jane austen movie and literally nothing changes
chapeau becomes the most iconic marvel character for no understandable reason and robert downey jr storms off in a huff

Been on a Beauty and the Beast train for a bit and thinking about all these variations, and like
We have platonic friendly versions already, but what I haven't seen yet is the "Beauty" character's parent getting involved
The "Beast" is almost always alone, even with a castle full of servants. Their parents are dead or gone.
While so often it's Beauty's parent who was first captured, who freedom Beauty gives up their own freedom for and subsequently befriends/beloves the Beast.
But what about Beauty's family? In a lot of old versions she has vain, empty-headed sisters, but there are plenty of revisions out there. A timeshare is possible, just saying. But I want to talk about the parent character - Maurice, for convenience.
What about a Maurice who refuses to let his beloved child into the maw of that castle? What about a Maurice that refuses to leave, or one who returns alone?
What about a Maurice coming to understand and care for the Beast as famhily, and the Beast experiencing parental love for the first time in years, or ever.
The story so often orbits the child sacrificing for a parent (allegedly the French tale at least came about to ease women into arranged/unhappy marriages so I sorta get it), but how about the parent sacrificing for the child?
I mean, if the Beauty and Beast get together then Maurice has to get used to the idea of being his former captor's new parent anyways.
I like pretty much any BatB variation, but I gotta say, I haven't seen one like this yet. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places....

So I have some things to establish about the Inside AU:
1. The events of the Inside AU takes place in the 1890s in rural France. (I saw a post a looong time ago that theorizes the canon story takes place at this time but I cannot for the life of me find it I love it)
2. Maurice was an engineer in Paris who was laid off due to a decline in performance, as he’d been focusing on his own designs and work.
3. Belle attended academy in Paris until her father was fired (about 15 years old shown c.1880). Unable to maintain their standard of living, they were forced to move to the countryside.
