A complete panic knit for my friend. I started to think about what would happen if we had another 18° winter and so pumped out this hardy, if unpractical, sweater. It’s non-superwash wool, but I figure it’s better to have as an option on a really cold day than not. I finished it off with some little bone buttons that I love so much.

Rainbow Shawl 🌈
[id: 4 images of a rainbow shawl hanging from a clothesline against a backdrop of trees. The first 2 are full views of the shawl, and the final 2 are closeups to show the detail in stitching and the beaded border. end id]
This project was fun to work on! There's a different stitch pattern for every color, and beads sewn on every point on the border. I love the way the beads catch the light ☀️
This shawl took me about 2 weeks to knit. I actually made this a couple summers ago, but I forget to post it because it's too hot to wear in summer!
More details under the cut:
Yarn is Lion Brand Manala in Thunderbird, and Lion Brand Truboo Sparkle in Night Sky.
3.5 mm needles
Most of the stitch patterns were from Melissa Leapman's book The Knit Stitch Pattern Handbook, and one was from Hitomi Shida's book Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible.
Dark red: Tilted Tiles for 34 rows Orange-red: Faceted Diamonds for 30 rows Red-orange: Cobbled Stripes for 4 rows Orange: Thistles for 16 rows Orange-yellow: my own pattern for 8 rows Yellow: Textured Eyelets for 38 rows Green: modified Faux Crochet for 6 rows Blue: Old Danube Lace for 11 rows Night Sky Sparkle: using different yarn for the edging, because I wanted something more purple. Pattern #248 from Hitomi Shida's book
Beads were added to border after casting off, and are glass, I think.
If I were to make this again, I would add some supplemental yarn to make the blue, green, and purple sections larger, but I'm still satisfied with how this turned out!

Vogue Knitting, Spring/Summer 2023
This issue has you ready for warmer days with no-sleeve and short sleeve looks. The most playful is the Popsicle by Mari Lynn Patrick who calls it a quick knit although it is a 3 out of 4 for difficulty. It has asymmetrical shoulders and ribbing through the body. It is done up in Anzula Vera which is a sport-weight yarn made of silk and linen, and that lovely rosy color is called Blush.
My favorite because of its vintage look is the eyelet patterns Campanula by Deborah Newton, a fitted polo collared pullover done in a taupe. 3 out of 4 for difficulty, it is done up in Skacel ALB Lino, also a sport-weight yarn and made of a blend of wool and linen.
A section of paired sweaters--one simple one dolled-up--gives us the strapped v-neck called The Artist by Melissa Leapman that is a 2 out of 4 for difficulty. It uses Blue Sky Fibers Skinny, a worsted weight cotton yarn and appears opposite a plain v-neck also by Leapman. Similarly, the ruffled sleeves on a charcoal grey, crewneck pullover accompany a plain crewneck. The ruffled version is called The Muse, and is 2 out of 4 for difficulty. It is made in Berroco Luca yarn, a worsted weight cashmere and cotton blend, and both are by Norah Gaughan.
Vista is the cream-colored tunic is by Lavinia Voiculescu in Cascade Hampton which is a DK-weight yarn in a blend of cotton and linen. Although the eyelet pattern makes it look complicated, the shape is very simple and the difficulty is only 2 out of 4.
Lastly, on the cover is The Dancer by Donna Estin which is made up of a boucle yarn, hence all the appealing texture, The yarn is called Curiosity by African Expressions which is blended wool, polyamide and mohair which is also a DK weight yarn and the pretty blue color is #9112. The sweater is a 2 out of 4 for difficulty.
In addition to interviews, and columns on new books, new yarns, new products, Meg Swansen shares some knitting tips from her mother Elizabeth Zimmerman.
You can find it at your local yarn store or online here: https://www.vogueknitting.com/

Libby Spotlight: Let’s Get Crafty
Mending Matters by Katrina Rodabaugh
Mending Matters explores sewing on two levels: First, it includes more than twenty projects that showcase visible mending—styles that are edgy, modern, and bold, yet draw on traditional stitching. It does all this with just four simple mending techniques: exterior patches, interior patches, slow stitches, darning, and weaving. In addition, the book addresses the way mending leads to a more mindful relationship to fashion and to overall well-being.
In essays that accompany each how-to chapter, Katrina Rodabaugh explores mending as a metaphor for appreciating our own naturally flawed selves. She also examines the ways in which mending teaches us new skills, self-reliance, and confidence, all gained from making things with our own hands.

Updated Sweather Weather Crochet Mens Pullover
I’ve been working on this pattern for a tutorial and read the reviews about the writing of the pattern. The pattern was revised in April 2022, and the latest reviews suggest the pattern is still confusing. It’s the Father’s Pullover Crochet Sweater. DOWNLOAD SWEATER A beautiful pattern by Melissa Leapman. In checking with Yarnspirations, a further revision wasn’t underway, and I went into the…

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don’t have a lot of pictures in my sweaters (especially the non-cosplay ones) but I’m so glad you like them!!
And now for the patterns (for those who are interested):
The pink velvet cardigan: an original design (I’ll write up the pattern soon lol)
The holiday sweater vest: Hoodie Vest by Crystal Palace Yarns (colorwork designed by me)
The lacy cropped sweater: Cropped Boxy Tee by Quail Studio
The Mabel Pines sweater: I found the pattern in Knitting Beyond Scarves by Melissa Leapman but I can’t find the book at the moment and the pattern isn’t on ravelry so I can’t remember the name? I think it was called the Bell Sleeve Pullover?
The Pikachu hoodie vest: a modified version of the Hoodie Vest by Crystal Palace Yarns

2017 Geek-A-Long Giveaway: Cascade Yarn
The 2017 #geekalong giveaway is underway again courtesy of Cascade Yarn! #knitting
Normally, we’d be announcing the winner of the June prize today, but TNNA seems to have put everyone behind schedule and our prize for the month hasn’t shown up yet. Luckily, Cascade Yarn has our backs! They sent over a giant box full of yarn just for you guys. Apparently, when Megan-Anne told them they only need to send one thing this year instead of four, they chuckled with a roll of their eyes…

Interweave Knits, Fall 2021
Yes, the fall patterns for garments of all kinds are coming out, so it is time to figure out which summer project you need to finish NOW. Since I finished an autumnal sweater this spring, I know that such plans do not always work out on time, but we might as well try, yes? This issue offers patterns for 8 sweaters, 3 kinds of wraps including the one you see here on the cover, and 2 pairs of socks, mitts, and a hat.
Lustrous Shawl on the cover by Lana Jois is a lace stitch pattern with 4 large charts to fathom. It is a 3 out of 4 in difficulty and made with a lace-weight yarn in Katia Air Lux which is mostly viscose blended with merino wool. The raglan mockneck in pale lilac called Susurration Sweater (it means murmuring, btw) by Melissa Leapman is also a 3 out of 4, done in Plymouth Yarn DK Merino Superwash. It uses cable stitching all over and is knitted in pieces and then seamed.
The burgundy yoked Furbelow Pullover uses short rows and top-down construction along with twisted rib and is also 3 out of 4 and is by Debi Maige. The yarn is Ancient Arts Fibre Craft Revival which is a 5-way blend starting with wool and mohair. Am I the only one who looks at all that reverse stockinette after the yoke and thinks, hmmm.... why not turn it inside out, skip all those purl stitches and just knit stitch? Or is this the bad attitude of a knitter doomed to never make it to a 4 out of 4 sweater?
Lastly, I give you the detail on a wrapped sweater by Wencke Pertermann which has a lace front edge border, is worked from the bottom up and uses short rows. Gloaming Wrap Sweater is another  3 out of 4 (actually I just went through the whole issue, everything is a 3 out of 4 including the socks) and made with Green Mountain Spinnery Sylvan Spirit which is a wool Tencel blend.
There are the usual columns, plus articles on new fibers and a technical article on knitting plaid patterns by Larissa Gibson who explains how they are done by slipped stitches, stranded knitting, intarsia, and embellishment.
You can find it online here or at your Local Yarn Store, LYS: https://www.interweave.com/article/knitting/inside-25th-anniversary-issue-interweave-knits/

Fair Isle Crochet
A few weeks ago I took a Fair Isle Crochet class by Melissa Leapman hosted by Fiberside Chats. What I enjoyed is that you did not need to attend the class live if you couldn’t. The recording was available for a week to watch and we received a simple pattern to print and follow along with. This was my first time doing fair isle crochet and it was pretty fun. We made a simple mug rug with a…
