Introducing Melli! A Tron User OC.

Background: Set after the events of Tron Legacy, Flynn’s Arcade opened back up to the public. One night after close, a part time employee, Melli, stumbled upon a hidden doorway leading down into a basement. From there, she discovered the console. One thing lead to another, and Melli found herself in a completely different world.

A very broken world.

The re-integration had failed and damn near bricked the system. Since then, it had been stuck in a reboot-crash cycle, until the activation of the aperture jump started it back up. Melli watched as the Grid loaded in real time, shocked and in awe. Not long after did she run into a program, and later , Flynn himself. The team now work on rebuilding the Grid to a new and improved digital frontier, running into both friends and foes along the way.

“Glitch Magnet”. She doesn’t find glitches; the glitches find her. Embracing this and applying her video game speedrunning experience and computer science knowledge, Melli had developed in Grid tools allowing her to clip through objects at will. Flynn thinks it’s innovative and creative, Tron and Dyson hate it, and Clu finds it mildly horrifying

À Escola da Vila:

Somos um grupo de mães, pais, familiares e responsáveis por estudantes da Escola da Vila. Manifestamos, por meio desta carta, nosso apoio ao Movimento Nacional em Defesa da Educação, bem como aos professores, funcionários e estudantes da Escola que eventualmente decidam aderir ao movimento em conjunto com alunos e funcionários de toda a rede, pública e privada, que vem sistematicamente sofrendo ameaças por parte do governo federal, através de uma política arbitrária de desmontes e retrocessos em investimentos desde a educação básica, ensino fundamental e médio, até o ensino superior e pesquisas científicas. Achamos pertinente reforçar nosso apoio, ainda que o corpo de professores da escola tenha decidido pela não paralisação.

Acreditamos que a valorização da educação seja o único caminho para a construção de uma sociedade mais justa e próspera. Valorizamos as ciências humanas, as artes e as pesquisas científicas e acreditamos na sua relevância e contribuição para a constituição de cidadãos conscientes, críticos, engajados e atuantes em sua realidade. As ameaças a estas áreas de conhecimento indicam retrocesso e danos à sociedade e aos valores democráticos. Neste momento entendemos ser necessário o apoio ao movimento de paralisação e convidamos a quem tenha disponibilidade e seja da comunidade escolar para participar do ato no Masp, dia 15/05/2019 às 15 horas.

(Next year there were changes to Encom’s employee insurance coverage :) and yes, Alan kept his word too and got her the wheels :P). It’s kind of messed that you could buy a used car before you could afford power assist (let alone the wheelchair itself!!). Like what!!!

Anyway, I love thinking about Alan and Melli’s interactions. They become friends pretty quickly and I imagine they go for walks a lot. Also they gossip, and Alan tries his best to keep up with all the new lingo and memes that Melli is constantly referencing.

Another Tron OC! Just did a little sketch page of Cyanide. She is a Virus Removal Program who goes in to remove threats once they’re detected. I think she’s really neat. She also hates Tron and most other Security programs (actually, she hates most people lbr agsjdkaj). Somehow Memphis (an unhinged scientist program) managed to get on her good side? Some things are just mysteries.

After the Reset, she becomes Melli’s friend and hangs out in a deserted Purgos.

This was meant to be a sketch, I was not actually intending to fully render a whole art piece 🫣 that being said, I’m really happy how this turned out. Again I’m trying to leave my comfort zone with art, and this time’s big jump was rendering in legacy style with the lighting. I learned to appreciate orange 🍊

This was a completely self-indulgent piece with my OC Melli who has a whole entire story which I PROMISE I will get around to writing about, or at least a character sheet with her basic summary (and how she ended up with Clu of all people aljshvfskfjvh it’s complicated)

After a tense moment where the gold lighted program's eyes widened marginally, Clu shook his head and waved Melli off, suddenly overcome with a flood of emotion that threatened to completely overturn his composure.

"Enough- I'm finished talking about this." He snapped, getting up from where he'd been seated at the edge of the cliff and kicked at a strangely polygonal rock, only to curse at its deceptive weight and limp over to a larger rocky surface to sit and sulk. "The Reset is ancient history. Or at least it might as well be.”

Melli frowned, but continued to push. “Flynn told me that the war that happened before the reset was from someone he and Tron considered a friend. That he staged a coup against them. Was… was that you?”

"I said enough!" Clu snarled this time, eyes wild as they fixed on the girl. "You don't understand what they did to me! What they...What he charged me with. And then what? Told me he changed his mind? Programs don't get that luxury. And to call my purpose a coup..." He spat, glaring, buzzing with energy and nowhere to let it out, his shoulders winding tightly. "I was serving the purpose he charged me with. Nothing more and nothing less..."

Though the peek into the madness inside the Flynn clone spoke more of the possibility that maybe Clu's very creation was flawed from the start.

After a moment of silence of watching the program pace, body tense and hands fidgeting at his side, Melli spoke, gently but earnestly.

“Clu, I believe you.” And in all honesty, her heart broke for him.

"Believe it all you want or don't want. It makes no difference..." He was burning himself out. Both Flynn and Clu had similar temperaments- they burned hot, and brief.

"The Grid as it was is gone. And everything I was created for...was worth nothing. I was worth nothing." Emotion was tightening his throat now and he hated this. Hated the feeling of his face getting hot and his suit feeling constrictive and *tight*. Hated the feeling of being unable to breathe.

"I'm fundamentally different, I was his...we were partners and he left me here alone, Melli. I don't even know what I'm supposed to do. You've given me the first feeling of purpose since the Reset."

There was nothing more in that moment that Melli wanted to do than to take that pain from Clu.

“To be created and told your existence is wrong.” She whispered. “I am so sorry he did that to you, Clu…”

There was nothing she could say that would change any of this, and the last thing she wanted to do was make him feel like his anger wasn’t justified. Flynn created him, told him his entire life purpose was wrong, abandoned him, and even after a system reset, a fresh start… Flynn wasn’t looking for him, let alone dare to even speak his name.

Clu looked at Melli, eyes red with anguish. So, programs could cry...

But to see Clu so...distressed- this was vulnerability and Clu actively held himself in disdain for it...but the way Melli was looking at him, was showing him care, was listening to him...

The program felt the ground rush up to him and he found himself on his knees, vision going fuzzy as he felt the emotions inside him come to a head and a sob finally broke through the administrator's throat.

Chapter one of Reset, Melli’s fic, is finally up!

Summary:

The reintegration had failed and damn near bricked the system.

Since then, it had been stuck in a reboot-crash cycle, until the sudden activation of the aperture by a part-time arcade employee jump-started the system. After entering the broken digital world, Melli meets a familiar program, and later, the Creator himself.

The team now work on rebuilding the Grid to a new and improved digital frontier, running into both friends and foes along the way.

Melli is a User! She stumbled upon the Grid in the Arcade after it opened following events of Legacy. The reintegration of the system failed and almost bricked the system, but Melli entering it again started it back up. It’s a whole thing, I’m currently in the process of writing a fic for it!

She drives Clu absolutely NUTS sometimes (I mean who is more imperfect than a User with free will?). Melli also likes to exploit glitches in the system (think video game speedrunning) so you can imagine how Clu feels about that 😂 She stresses him but she has a heart of gold and we all know how much Clu loves gold :P
