2003 ESP MX-250 DIRTY DONNY
From James' new book | Messengers: The Guitars of James Hetfield.
"Really a cool time in my life. I was 29 years old
doing art in Metallica's newly purchased HQ. James had this blank ESP and asked me if I'd do a logo for him and paint it on there. When I painted it I didn't think he would be playing it live, but then again why wouldn't he? And he did, a lot. In years to come this basic black 1 shot paint job brought me quite a lot of attention. People were cloning it, making toys and all sorts of fan art. I can't tell you how many messages I got about it. Anyway, it's a great honor to be in my old buds book, that he asked me in the first place and that it's now named "The Dirty Donny" guitar."

"Messengers": The Guitars of James Hetfield
