Whatever I Have Left
Oscar “Spooky” Diaz x Male Reader
WARNING: bit of mary jane magic💨
You n Oscar talking😭✋🏿...
I couldn’t decide if I wanted some fluff/angst shit or a really fru fru shnookums type beat but ig we’ll see
I forgot to mention that most if not all my writing gonna be with a black/poc coded reader in mind because I’m just that nigga🤞🏿. But honestly i don’t give a fuck who reads as long as u not being a fucking buffoon abt it. . . . PEACE🫂
Tumblr media
The sun is just starting to set when you arrive on the beach shore. The waves crashing against the sand and the call of seabirds fill your ears as you start your search for Oscar. It had been a few days since kicking his little brother out to the streets and of course he wasn’t doing well at all. You went to his house to check up on him as you had been doing but there was no sign of him. That brings you to the beach. This is where the oldest Díaz brother is found when things get overwhelmingly complicated, his safe space. The first thing you ever learned about Oscar is that he finds security at the beach. You spot his car before you see him further down perched against the rocks.
You know Oscar hears you walk up but he decides against looking at you, focused on the ocean breeze against his skin. Plopping down beside him you pull a lighter from your pocket and the blunt behind your ear. Lighting up you stayed silent, knowing better than to try and push Oscar into talking.
“It shouldn’t be this way. I shouldn’t have to rob my own blood of a bed to sleep in.” You know he isn’t wanting a response but you turn your head towards him to show you are listening. His brows furrowed and mouth formed into a scowl as he continued.
“Cesar isn’t made for this typa life, yet because of me he’s headed in the wrong direction. We should be somewhere living a normal life where all he has to be worried about is school and teenage hormones. We look over our backs when our biggest concern should be work or our own familia running arou-”
He stops dead in his tracks. He expects you to scrutinize him like he’s betting all his worth on the most unfeasible outcome of his future. Expects you to snap him into the reality of what’s bound to happen due to the lifestyles y’all lead. Background noise fades out and plunges him into hypotheticals jumbling around in his head.
The heat radiating onto his fingers pinching the still burning blunt shakes him out of his head. With a clear of his throat and a quick glance in your general direction, he takes a slow drag of the content and hands it off to you. “Oscar, you aren’t stupid for wanting better than the gang. Aspirations make us human
“The Santos will still be the Santos long after you are gone and when the time comes that you decide step down, we’ll pick Cesar up by his mangy scruff n move to fucking Miami.” You cackle and the dopiest smile makes its way onto Oscar’s face as he watches you ramble about him not having to leave the ocean behind.
“On some real shit tho, I wanna spend whatever I have left with yo ass.” Your words come out low and raspy, but hold a hardness that would guarantee Oscar knows you aren’t spouting drug induced whims. You ash the roach in the sand and look up. Red hazy eyes meet the mocha pools finally staring back at you.
Reaching a hand out to his nape, you pull him forward, resting your foreheads together. Your fingers find purchase running along the tattoo adorning Oscar’s neck. His shoulders noticeably relax, relieved of the tension he felt. ‘Whatever you have left’ could range from a few hours to a hefty number of years. Letting your words hang over in the air, he leans further into your touch. He relishes the fact that he has another reason to want to abandon Santos life.

Last Saturday, the Minnesota GOP voted overwhelmingly to endorse Royce White — an avowed conspiracy theorist, homophobe, and misogynist — for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate.
Along with that considerable baggage, White carries a long list of probable campaign finance violations into his primary and the general election — if he’s the nominee — against popular, LGBTQ+ ally Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D) in November.
White, 33, made a national name for himself by leveraging his fame as an NBA basketball player for the Houston Rockets and his leading role in the Black Lives Matter protests following the 2020 murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, where White grew up.
But now, as a Black darling of the far-right MAGA crowd and a true believer of former President Donald Trump, Royce has broadened his political ambitions. His past missteps and a history of abusive attacks — including social media posts calling people “fag,” “cunt,” and “retard” among them — are catching up with the 6’8″, 260-pound athlete.
In 2022, White, with the backing of mentors like former Trump advisor Steve Bannon and anti-LGBTQ+ conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, made a bid for the U.S. House seat in Minnesota currently held by “squad” member Rep. Ilhan Omar (D). He lost in the primary.
But you’d never know it based on his campaign expenses, which continued to pile up even after White lost.
A week after his defeat, White’s campaign used donor funds to pay a bill topping $1,200 at the Gold Rush Cabaret in Miami, a “full liquor and full nude” strip club 1,800 miles from the congressional district he just lost in, according to reporting by The Daily Beast. The charge went through at five in the morning.
But the strip club outlay is just one questionable expense in a mountain of unexplained payments to vendors over the course of White’s campaign that would make even George Santos’ treasurer blush.
The questionable expenses include more than $100,000 in mysterious wire transfers and checks, reported as paid to the campaign; huge tabs at a long list of late-night hot spots; thousands paid to limo services and swank hotels in at least seven states; unexplained cash withdrawals; and purchases of shoes, clothing, and electronics that beg for an explanation that isn’t purely personal.
“Misusing campaign funds can be a serious criminal offense — many politicians have gone to jail for diverting donor funds to personal expenses,” Brendan Fischer, a specialist in campaign finance law and deputy executive director of Documented, explained. “A close read” of White’s spending “suggests an incredibly long list of illegal expenditures.”
Among the brands that the White campaign spent lavishly on: Heimie’s Haberdashery, K&G Fashion Superstore, New Balance (“shoe purchase for door knocking”), Nordstrom, Nike, Asos, Express, Crocs, and Lululemon.
White’s donors reportedly footed the bill for more than $3,200 in purchases at Guitar Center, more than $2,500 at Dick’s Sporting Goods, and more than $700 at Sally Beauty stores in two states.
When asked about his post-election strip club expenditure, White told The Daily Beast, “I like the food there.”

Hello, Chronivac support? I'm a Latino American born and raised in the US, and whenever we go meet our relatives in Venezuela I always feel out of place. I have a pretty slim build but all my relatives are huge and have smooth, hairless tanned skin. Then there's also the fact that I don't speak spanish a lot at home so I'm not as fluent as they are, especially since spanish is all they know! Can you help me find a way to get closer to them? I'll do whatever it takes, we'll be taking a flight to go visit them in a few thinks and I just want to stop thinking and relax with them. God knows what goes on in their heads,
You look in the mirror. Yes, you really aren't Latino anymore. Yes, your hair is dark, your eyes are dark, your skin is dark. But you dress like a Polo Ralph Lauren model. You read the New York Times. You think Chicago is cooler than Miami. You're really not Latino anymore.
You go shopping for a vacation in your parents' home country. Yeah, that's silly, you can store much better and cheaper in Porlamar. But somehow you have the feeling that everything will be easier if you already look like one of your cousins on the plane. Nothing great. A cap. Maybe a pair of not-so-tight-fitting jeans. That will help. The young man in the clothes store on a dark side street sees you, grins and picks some clothes for you from the racks.
Tumblr media
Mierda, estás deseando coger por fin el avión a Caracas. Luego un corto vuelo doméstico. Y te tomas un Polar fresquito en la veranda de tu abuela con tus primos. Odias esto. Claro, haces buen dinero moviendo drogas. Conoces a los policías, los policías te conocen. Una mano lava la otra. Es un país maldito. En tu país, al menos todos saben que todos son corruptos. Aquí, todos actúan como si fueran santos. Escupes al pensarlo. ¡Malditos gringos!

Sunday we got up at 2:30 went for a walk pick up Andrew and family and went to Memphis airport to fly to the Dominican Republic. Everything went well, changed planes in Atlanta, I don’t know why everyone complains about Atlanta airport, I certainly like it much better than Miami, little man did great. I fell sleep while watching a show, and it was great because I usually can’t sleep in planes. Little man got his first wings (wings pin), he even got to talk to the pilot on the way out in Atlanta. He was very excited about it. On the flight to Santo Domingo the airline was asking for volunteers to send the carryon bags under the plane, I really didn’t need anything out of mine so I sent it, it was free, that way it was lighter coming out of the plane, and I was able to board earlier.

Book Blurb: Lakelore meets “Orpheus and Eurydice” when two Miami teens travel to the underworld to retrieve their girlfriend’s soul.
Andres Santos of São Paulo was all swinging fists and firecracker fury, a foot soldier in the war between his parents, until he drowned in the Tietê River… and made a bargain with Death for a new life. A year later, his parents have relocated the family to Miami, but their promises of a fresh start quickly dissolve in the summer heat.
Instead of fists, Andres now uses music to escape his parents’ battles. While wandering Miami Beach, he meets two girls: photographer Renee, a blaze of fire, and dancer Liora, a ray of sunshine. The three become a polyamorous triad, happy, despite how no one understands their relationship. But when a car accident leaves Liora in a coma, Andres and Renee are shattered.
Then Renee proposes a radical solution: She and Andres must go into the underworld to retrieve their girlfriend’s spirit and reunite it with her body—before it’s too late. Their search takes them to the City of the dead, where painters bleed color, songs grow flowers, and regretful souls will do anything to forget their lives on earth. But finding Liora’s spirit is only the first step in returning to the living world. Because when Andres drowned, he left a part of himself in the underworld—a part he’s in no hurry to meet again. But it is eager to be reunited with him...
In verse as vibrant as the Miami skyline, critically acclaimed author R.M. Romero has crafted a masterpiece of magical realism and an openhearted ode to the nature of healing.
Review:
A polyamorous retelling of Orpheus and Eurydice told in verse! The story follows two Miami teens as they travel to the Underworld to retrieve their girlfriend's soul. Andres Santos is someone who swings his fist and lets his anger take hold, someone who is stuck in the middle of his parent's fights, and someone who drowned in the river until he made a bargain with Death for a new life. A year after the incident his family has moved to Miami... and thats where he meets two girls: photographer Renee and dancer Liora. The three become a polyamorous triad, happy in their love despite the fact that no one understands their relationship. However when Liora gets into an accident and ends up in a coma, Andres and Renee are broken... that is until Renee proposes that they both go to the underworld to retrieve their girlfriend's soil and reunite it with her body. Yet as they travel into the underworld, their relationship will be tested and Andres will have to face his own demon... one he left behind on the day he drowned. This was definitely a really unique retelling on the classic story and while I didn't particularly enjoy the in verse style of the novel and felt that some parts were a bit muddled, the overall story itself is one I would recommend. I feel like if you enjoy in verse novels, this is definitely one you should add to your TBR! It's a gorgeous retelling and it definitely creates a unique story while staying true to the spirit of the classic.
*Thanks Netgalley and Holiday House / Peachtree / Pixel+Ink | Peachtree Teen for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
