Alright time to infodump a bit and look for some extra input, I'm currently doing a playthrough of MW5:M with YAML and a bunch of mods, and I'm trying to recreate Noble Team from Halo Reach the best I can, at least in spirit. So far here's what I've got:

General rules: each mech is equipped with a Blue Shield PFD, C3 unit, Heavy Duty Gyro, Clan Ferro Lamellar armour and a Clan Endo Composite skeleton, giving us "shields" comms, and our armour.

I'm standardizing our speed at 64.8km/h, so whichever engine core brings the mech to that speed, but I'm considering going higher to 81km/h depending on weight management and slots, and more than likely rocking a Clan XL in each for the extra weight reduction.

Carter - Black Knight Partisan, a decent command mech, imposing enough and with enough weapons and room for support systems, I want Carter to be able to rock a Command Console and AMS system or 2, so he's gotta stay in something heavy at least. considering switching him to a Battlemaster though

Kat - Raven-3L, our premier intelligence agent, rocking an Angel ECM, Bloodhound Active Probe, and a smattering of lasers, probably gonna throw on a Null Signature System to help with survivability if I can fit it

Jun - Cataphract-5L, rocking a Clan Gauss and ER-PPC, Jun is our backline sniper providing good fire support, I still feel like he's lacking something though

Emile - I've yet to start on him but either an Atlas or a Hatchetman, I want him to rock an LBX-10/20 and some sorta melee weapon, and these seem like the best choice

Jorge - also a WIP, I'm leaning towards a Fafnir with RAC's or UAC's, or possibly a Marauder (IIc?) something that can put a lot of dakka downrange and hold its own

Noble Six - and finally, you. The everyman, I'm leaning towards a Shadow Hawk or possibly a Rifleman, genuinely not super sure what to do with this one other than follow my heart so I'm super open to better thematic ideas if anyone has any thoughts

Q&A with Gyro

When did you start writing fanfic?

I’ve been writing fanfic since before I knew what fanfiction was! I remember writing adventures for the Lion King characters by hand on loose leaf notebook paper. Although I only started posting my fic and getting involved in fandom about six years ago.

What is your favorite character to romance?

Dorian. I wasn’t sure who I was going to romance on my first playthrough of DAI, but Dorian stole my heart and refused to give it back. Not to mention, his romance gave me an avenue through which to explore my sexuality and gender identity in ways that I hadn’t before. He has a very special place in my heart. 

Who was your first DA protagonist?

My first protagonist is the one I’m writing about for this bang, my Lavellan mage. I originally started writing him years ago to explore my asexuality and aromanticism. It’s nice to revisit him years later with new perspective on my own queer identity and a new story to explore with him.

I have nothing against MY terms being uploaded to other websites, however please ask us first.

If you're trying to make an archive, that's one thing- and it's something you can do via reblogs. You never have to ask to reblog our stuff- we're on Tumblr for a reason. If you're making an off-site archive, at least notify us.

If you're uploading our terms to other sites to spread them around (ie, on Pinterest), all I ask is that you send us an ask first. We have anon on. You don't even need to be signed in. Hell, you don't even need to have a Tumblr.

I'm saying this because I HAVE seen our terms uploaded to other sites. In all cases, we were not asked. We have, in our 3 years doing this, gotten ONE inbox message asking if our terms could be uploaded onto someone's wiki. We have never received a single DM about it. The reuploads I HAVE seen DO give us credit, however that's only the ones I've seen. I cannot verify if our terms have been uploaded without credit elsewhere. I cannot verify if out terms have been reposted without credit on Tumblr itself. The ONLY verified uploading of one of our terms onto another site is Hylicsgamic on mogai.miraheze, which I uploaded MYSELF.

Again, I have nothing against it. I haven't talked to Mod Gyro in a hot minute, so I can't speak for him. However, every post is tagged with who made the post. I know I don't check this account often, however you can still send an ask.

I should not, in the year 2025, have to remind people to ask permission for these things. Especially in a community where people so so very often have to put on their intro posts, on their pinned posts, on ever post themselves- that people need to ask permission to upload their terms elsewhere.

When all you have to do is ASK and you cannot do that, maybe you should reconsider the way you go about reuploading content. Credit is great, you should always credit; however credit is not permission, and permission is not credit.

Yes, I know this is long. This isn't really a post I WANT to make, however it clearly NEEDS to be.

The TL;DR is that you need to ask permission to reupload terms to other sites. Unless the creator has it somewhere that you don't need to, you should ALWAYS ask permission. Please just ask.

Backlog Reviews 2024: Metroid Prime Hunters

Platform: DS

June 19th, 2024-August 10th, 2024(didn't finish)

(Note: The only Metroid Prime game I have previously played is Prime 1. Review can be found in THIS post)

So…This is awkward.

As I've stated before, Metroid is the series that resonates with me just as much as Sonic does. I love the lore, the(2D)gameplay, Samus as a character, it all just clicks with me.

And the PREMISE of this game is absolutely baller! Samus vs a bunch of other, considerably less scrupulous bounty hunters in a cosmic battle royale for an ancient treasure? Sign me up!

But the actual execution? Eh…

Now, I am not entirely unfamiliar with DS FPS'. I still love the DS version of Bionicle Heroes(which the Prime series definitely had an influence on, especially in terms of its BALLER soundtrack which is good for listening to while you read this review)to this very day, and I thought this was gonna be more like that. Hell, I even got the mod that lets me utilize the C-nub and the gyro on my modded 2DS XL, which made aiming in this version a lot of fun…For a few sessions.

But then I ran into the major problem with this game: Nothing really HAPPENS.

Like, in most Metroid games, stuff is constantly happening. New upgrades and paths are being thrown at you every which way, it's bananas. But here? You've GOT most of your arsenal from the start, and paths rarely lead to anything but yet another artifact, or an attack by a mob of flying enemies that are hard to engage due to the lack of a lock-on feature.

And if you could just hold down the fire button for these sections, it would be fine! But due to the charge beam, which REALLY could've stood to be cut for this entry, you need to constantly tap the fire button to keep on shooting, which was absolute HELL on my carpal tunnel!

Oh yeah, and the mod maps jumping to either the D-Pad or the touch screen, so you can either not move while jumping, or not do anything else while jumping.

So basically…

In addition, the levels are VERY aimless and meandering, not helped by your ship being your only way to save, teleport points to bring you back for a save being VERY scarce, and overall, what little puzzle solving exists in this game is WAY below par.

All of this is piled on top of the game using the same map system as Prime 1, when the touch screen is RIGHT THERE for a real-time map! Why would you make a Metroid game with two screens, and NOT use a real-time map!? And you can only manipulate it via the touch screen, even though the map is on the TOP screen, so my swipes just get massively misinterpreted!

The story…Somehow exists less than the ORIGINAL Prime's narrative did. Like, I barely even register it outside of the, again, baller premise. Prime at least tried to compensate its weak narrative with more scanning stuff, but what I could play of this game showed very little scanning potential. I keep on being told that Prime is peak Metroid, but two games in a row, I have not yet been impressed.

(I'm still gonna give them all a shake, though. Because Metroid)

So yeah, that's my short and sweet review of yet another game I did not finish this year. Well, Fallout New Vegas was more like I lost interest in the path I was currently taking after completing the personal goal I set out for my character, but you get what I mean.

(probably gonna do another New Vegas playthrough eventually. replaying older games between your new games is healthy for the soul, I think)

At least my non-enjoyment of this game got me trying out Super Metroid Redux. I'll give my thoughts on that in the year end post.

Well, I'm gonna complete Super Metroid Redux, and my current recording of a Sonic Frontiers let's play first to see if the weather will cool down first(house air conditioning is still out, and the window unit we bought for the kitchen doesn't extend to my gaming area), but by mid-September, I plan on playing Resident Evil 2(original via Gamecube), for at LEAST Leon's story. the pitch:

Lockdown is often a modded, old, space-cowboy, ex-ninja, bounty hunter who sometimes even takes jobs from Quintessons. Slipstream can be an elusive Seeker who gets stressed-out by Starscream and/or being Decepticon middle-management and sometimes acquires a shady reputation as a universe-hopping spy. Both are clients of Swindle.

It starts out as a chase, some faction or organization wants the Seeker collected. But she's...slippery and evasive. Lockdown has to keep trying new toys to try to catch her, and he likes new toys. There's a lot of banter, whether over comms or when he manages to ground her for a time. They get into close combat. Respect each others different combat skills.

Then a proposal. Maybe there's a bigger bounty that would be easier collected with air support. Maybe there's an infiltration mission that would be easier with active camo. They could work together, like partners?

Sure, they bicker a bit, but they are both professionals. They can work a job together. They can at least find each other...useful. Maybe that's enough to stay together for one more job, whether that's a prison break or something else.

Slipstream isn't caught, she chooses to stop trying to escape.

She will not confess feelings; Lockdown's just supposed to figure it out!

It's fine! He probably won't confess feelings, either.

(The specific way in which Slipstream presents as in any way slippery, elusive, or evasive differs across continuities. TFA cartoon doesn't outright tell us, but when she avoids answering a question with a question, that is being evasive. When she's the remaining uncaught clone to the point all of Cybertron is looking for her, that's being evasive and elusive.

Whether she has a spark ability (headcanon: she's Kitty to Skywarp's Kurt), or got interdimensional gyro-rotors from Swindle, or she's a cloaker, or she's scrambling to force bots to target her evasion skill instead of her physical defense, she's often avoiding detection, capture and even boundaries of space-time.

It's like we can't quite pin her down...?)

Also, I feel like Lockdown and Slipstream might enjoy el Día de los Muertos together.
