Do you know what inspired Viv in her old art? Like what her style was a bit based on??

She has often cited Disney's Bambi as one of the things that initially got her interested in animation in general. She also posted this influence map to her twitter in the early 2010s. Cats Don't Dance, I think, is one you can really see in her animation style.

It's impossible that Husk was created for the explicit purpose of being Angel Dust's love interest simply due to the fact that Husk predates Angel Dust. In 2012, Viv can be seen doing gift art for her sister of a group of cat OCs* that includes Husk prior to him being gifted to Viv. According to Viv, her sister chose to gift Husk to Viv because she thought Viv could do better things with him. But Husk was created by Viv's sister independently and had no association with Zoophobia or Hazbin Hotel at conception.

Going by just that one piece of art, Husk can be seen as far back as 2012 and since Angel didn't exist prior to 2013, the Angel x Tyco RPs couldn't predate Husk. Thus he couldn't have been created to replace Tyco.

Even without taking the years of creation into account, Angel and Husk were not initially meant to be a couple which can be seen in old art where Viv refers to them as bros and best friends such as this one. Though it does seem she began to draw them as friends partially because Viv's sister loved Angel so much.

In regards to Tyco, he was never meant to be a part of Hazbin Hotel. People assuming so seemed to be a sore spot for Faust to the point Viv had to make a post informing people that he was not.*

It's also important to note that the reason one of the cat OCs in the image above is named Valentino, is likely because that was the name of one of their family cats. Not because there's any relation between the cat OC Valentino and Hazbin's Valentino. It is most likely that the name was used by both sisters in honor of said pet who passed away years ago.

*I know this post exists but I neglected to bookmark it. I'd have to do some significant digging to find it again in the wayback machine. I could be misremembering and it might be Faust who made the post, but I'm pretty sure it was Viv.

About Angel's original love interest. I remember reading a about it a while back, wasn't it scrapped before the pilot? And then Viv asked a sibling to design a new love interest for Angel and that's how Husk came about? That's also why she didn't really want to change Husk's design, and why she's very adamant on this ship becoming cannon.

Not sure about this...does anyone know if it's true?

Charlie was around for a few years at this point but I don't think she had moved to be the center of the story yet. Angel and Vaggie were the most focused on characters for the longest time. But Charlie has been around since 2013. That makes her about as old as Angel. (Angel being created Feb 2013.) She didn't get near as much art as him, but she had some solo pieces and can be seen in this RP comic with Faust as well as sketch dumps from that year.

And while she was left out of most group shots back then, she was included sometimes.

I'm honestly not sure exactly what date Charlie was created, but I don't think she moved to the center of the story until closer to the creation of the pilot by which time her design had changed quite a bit. (You can see her become more central in the 2016-2017 art prints.)

I do think Viv had referred to her as a leader of sorts for the group even early on. From what I've gathered, she was supposed to be the anchor among all these other chaotic characters Viv had created. Someone to help bring all these dissonant personalities together and hold them down.

Personally, I think because she was created out of that need, it meant she was less fun to explore and play with before a fleshed out story was developed in which she could take her place. Prior to developing the pilot, a lot of what Viv was doing was just playing around with her OCs and drawing what was fun for her. So, it wasn't until the point Charlie was needed for the actual story that she was worth focusing on more. But that's just a personal speculation.
