First of all, I'd like to thank @renru @reesevernerlovebot @honeylemonbutte and Bee too (I believe I don't follow her ç.ç) for giving me the courage to start posting these. And @lacunafiction for thins wonderful story omg, I love her book.
_Fallen Stars
There were books sprawled all over the floor. Astronomy, physics, star charting ones. Papers and journals filled with equations that were almost impossible to read, covering up huge constellation maps made by hand. Doctor Yu used to joke that you'd write even on the walls of the lab, given the chance.
Well, you're in your Pa's old apartment now, there's nothing stopping you. If you had some neon blue makers, you'd be sure to write down your chartings, it would look beautiful at night. Maybe people would lock you up in an asylum this time? You know that, if Dr. Yu ever hears someone repeat this to you, you’d fear for the person’s wellbeing. You got this style of brainstorming from Dr Kuiper, after all, and the trio of you were best friends since freshman years.
Dr. Lara de Armas, the astrophysicist. Dr. Sieben Kuiper, the mathematician. Dr. Morgan Yu, the engineer.
You guys made some amazing discoveries and built amazing things together. You miss them dearly.
But that's not important right now. Well, you did trail off a little bit... A portion of the wall south of the kitchen had some scribblings on. Huh, you gonna have to clean that later... Or not? It could be related to art, right? Right?
The intention was to put a monitor in that wall, anyway. Nobody has to see this. Yes, good plan, big brain.
The apartment was still getting its new decor. There were some boxes of new purchases you intended to use in this place. You've already asked for some midnight blue wallpapers. And the kitchen had some new utensils for you to use whenever you had another sudden craving for strawberry smoothies.
But where did you put your telescope...? Too many boxes! Too many boxes!!
Your thoughts are derailing again, aren't them? Ugh.
Focus!
Today was a special day, after all...
The wristwatch beeped and you stared at the time with a slight frown. There was still about an hour to gather your things and go. Getting up from the mess you were, you ask yourself how that marker ended up in your hands, but there isn’t much time to dwell on it.
There’s a smile on your face. A happy one. The kind of happiness that Bee would instantly click a picture of.
A meteor shower today was the cause for your happiness. You were the first one to discover it. Dr Yu even tinkered with your telescope for you to get a better view.
You wish they were here. The bright smile on your face dampens a little bit. But there's no time to lose. So, you march around the mess in your apartment and gather your things.
Telescope? Check
Chartings? Check
Camera for stargazing? Check
Something to sit on? Check
Time to go, Lara.
Things were loaded in your car especially fast, even if with all the gentleness in the world. There was a humming beneath your breath, a soft melody, your body moving at your tune without much thought.
" - Ok, Frodo, how are you gonna name it?
- Just because you're taller than me, doesn't mea-
- Hmmm, I'd called it the one ri-
- You're a brute, you know that?
- Morgan, stop annoying my student!
- I'm sorry, Dr. Kuiper. Now, now, Doctor de Armas, would you name it? You're the one who found its trajectory first, after all.
- It already has a name... It's a perseid!
- Are all astrophysicists this uncreative? Come on, give it a name. What would you call it?
- Uncreative? You called your arm bot "Morg_4rm".
- Better than perseid, still. Go on.
- Ugh! Possibly Ocean fall.? Ocean... drops?... Scintillans falls!
- I like the sound of that. Keep at it, Sam.
- I detest Yu.
       "
Oh! You've forgotten something! There’s nothing to drink! That's why you stop at the diner, right...? Right?
Well, it doesn't matter, you're parched and when the diner enters in your field of view, you don't rummage your brain as for the "whys". The fact that you have butterflies in your stomach doesn't register instantly. Did you eat something you shouldn't?
Your pulse just spiked up? There was no physical activity today. Well, Mal did show you a beautiful place that he may not even know how much it meant to you. You can always bring him photos of the shower!
Why are you thinking of him right now, though? Oh, right! Because you're at the diner! And he's interesting! You like his company, even if can be really charged. The fact that your heart, at the thought of him, makes you feel like a little rabbit, doesn't matter. Must be the lack of sleep. Nothing about that cheek kiss? It can't be, right? It is because he knows too much about this town and you’re trying to understand what he is. Surely!
You find yourself inside the diner, your mind still wandering to a certain lake, the brightest smile on your face. Except when those hellish creepy spoons sound like an undead knocking in the glass. You hate those, sparing them a murderous glare.
Clyde welcomes you, mimicking your smile, and you go instantly to ask for some tea and energy drink to pack while your eyes wander. You're just taking in the diner. It's not like you already had the whole blueprint of the building in your mind. You're just taking the ambient in, right?
Right!
Must be nothing aside from that.
"Someone seems extra bright today, Ms. De Armas!", Clyde comments from his place at the cooking top, cleaning his spatula from some leftover batter. He's cooking some pancakes? The smell makes your stomach rumble. Haven’t you eaten today? Well, it doesn't matter, you can eat later.
"Nighty night, Clyde! Today is a special day, after all! I'll bring you guys some photos from a phenomena that only happens once a year. And we've managed to get some cobalt reading in this year's batch, so-", you stop suddenly when you see confusion in the chef's face. You manage to breathe in a little bit, slowing down your thinking process to make sense for the middle-aged man, a softer smile on your face. "Pardon me, Clyde. I got a bit caught up. But there will be a meteor shower today, in about... ", you stop to look at your wristwatch, pouting a little bit, "40 minutes. It's going to be to the west, and it will look like ocean blue stars."
The old chef returns your enthusiasm, smiling back at you with energy. "Then you'll need these as fast as we can make it. Maybe a special someone can make the tea just the way you prefer and you can take him with you?", the suggestion in his tone takes you off guard for a moment and you fumble with your words, blushing hard.
Wait, he means the drinks! Yeah, totally the drinks! Hundred percent sure... You think?
It wouldn’t make sense otherwise, right?
Ugh, some social cues are hard to read.
"I'd... love that!", your eyes sparkle with delight. If you manage to make it to the spot you encountered earlier, you for sure will have a great view of the event. Your hands tremble in excitement. There’s also the need to go fast, though, it’s a thought you don’t quite enjoy.
That’s when you feel it. It begins as a featherlight sensation in the nape of your neck and travels down. Your hair stands up at the end and a shivering sensation crawls beneath your skin. The bright smile vanishes from your face, replaced by an intense focus. Your gaze rests in every exit of the diner, trying to understand where the sensation comes from and where you can take cover, if needed. There’s a slight pressure in the back of your neck. Annoys you so deeply that you can’t understand why this is happening. You stand below a hanging cupboard, it acts as a protection for your thoughts as you analyze the diner. If you can pinpoint the direction it comes from, maybe yo -
“Hey there, Charmer.”, the voice comes from behind your left. It’s a honeyed tone, slightly hushed if not amused, as if you both were sharing a secret. You didn’t notice him coming. Not that this is abnormal. Is his modus operandi, after all. But you were not expecting to be taken off guard, so his sudden awake gives your body a slight jump and you hit your head in the cupboard, releasing a pathetic “Yiiik!”. You instantly protect your slightly throbbing head, looking back at him with watery eyes.
“Mal? Hey!”, your eyes abandon the diner and are naturally drawn to him. You don’t stop to think about how it is always like this. Exits, covers and possible weapons forgotten, shoved back to the back of your mind. The shivering sensation, though, intensifies. You wonder if it’s the cold coming from the fridge. You can hear its motor in the back of the diner, and the place where you are can be an air duct for both cold and hot air masses to meet. He is dressed in his diner uniform, holding a bag in front of your face. There’s a very disarming smile on his lips. Lips that you're so not staring. Shaking your head slightly, you smile up at him, flushing heavily. “Something could’ve fallen from the cupboard, so be careful, please? But it’s ama- great! Great to see you!”
His smile becomes less disarming, and a touch more genuine. His eyes are hypnotic to you, so you decide to stare at the diner bag. Maybe you should take some medicine for your heart, something is surely not right. But the shivers stop, replaced by a warmth you don’t quite understand. Weird.
Especially because Mal didn’t move a muscle.
“Something falling would be the least of this place's problems, wouldn’t it?”, you slightly narrow your eyes as his mysterious words, opening your mouth to say something, but he just continues. “Besides, having something falling for you wouldn’t be so bad.”
Oh! Oh…  Ok. Remember. Night sky. Ocean Blue meteorites. Don’t stare too much. You have other things to see tonight… And he’s just being friendly, right? Right!
DON’T THINK ABOUT THE NOTE HE TUCKED IN YOUR BACK POCKET. I SAID DON’T!
Friends do that, right? Is it a normal thing?
And the way you felt about it… You weren’t expecting any kind of slap, it wouldn’t make sense. Who likes to get slapped?
Not that you liked his hand in… You know what? You’re not going there.
Is it a social cue? You know your lack of actual romantic relationships makes it harder to navigate these things… But Mal doesn’t see you that way… Not him, and not with you…
… You think.
The way he phrases things, though? Why does it slam you with so much strength? It confuses you a bit… He barely knows you, you don’t even know his full name yet.
Then why do you feel like you’re lying to yourself?
“I - I… Well, thanks for bringing me these. I told Clyde about the meteor shower tonight, would you like some photos? I wish you could see them first hand…”, you say, a dreaming look in your eyes fills Mal’s vision. Something passes through his expression as his jaw sets, your curious look isn’t answered, as per usual, so you just let a soft smile take place in our lips. Pushing is something you don’t enjoy when it’s done to you, so you won’t do it to him either.
“Mal, why don’t you take some hours off? Ms. De Armas may need some help carrying those bags!”, the line cook shouts from his spot at the cooktop. There’s a huge smile on his face as he points at the duffel bags resting on the table you’ve put them on, when you’ve arrived at the diner.
Again, Mal’s expression shifts. You were too busy listening to Clyde’s offer to notice. His jaw tenses and the customer service smile in his face dies. He looks at you, giving nothing away. Is he expecting your reaction? Is he angry at Clyde for offering? You know something always stops Mal from spending any time with you unless late in the night, but you don’t understand or know why. You want to ask, but you know you won’t receive an answer. You’re still pulling the puzzle pieces together. Maybe when you get the whole picture, it will make sense.
“Well, uhm, do you want to come? You don’t need to, I have… 22 minutes to get there. It’s around 15 km, so I can get there in time if I get a constant velocity o-... Oh, sorry. Again, you don’t need to go, I won’t be sad or anything, I always go alone on these. And I can bring photos!”, you stumble. You have to stop being too specific about things. Is something you got from Dr. Kuiper.
“What a server wants isn’t really ever questioned in our line of work, Charmer.”, Mal smoothly replies. You glance at him quickly, a trace of sadness in your face. You wish you could help him. He doesn’t seem happy with his role. Truth be told, behind all of that confidence, there’s a deep sorrow, for what you could detect. You won’t overextend here, you don’t want to burden him. As you did with Bee. What if you have to leave, and he expects you to come back, like Reese and James did. What if you put him in danger, as you did to Silas.
No. You won’t pile up your list of wrongdoings.
Giving him a soft look and smiling in a way that draws his eyes, you nod. The waiter rests his left hand in the cupboard above you, his knuckles turning white. You take a step forward with intention towards the exit, looking at your duffel bags after taking the drinks from his hand with the same delicateness that you would use to take care of your telescope. There’s a slight movement from him, as if he wanted to reach out, but you don’t linger in that. “I care about your wants, Mal. So you don’t need to do anything on my behalf. Tell me if you need anything, ok?”
“Lara…“, he speaks in a hushed voice, staring at the increasing separation of your personal spaces with a hard expression. His customer service smile isn’t coming up so easily at this moment, you wonder why. You collect your things and wave at Clyde, smiling. The line cook looks between you and your bags, giving a sad smile. You thought Mal would’ve already disappeared, but he stays there, holding the cupboard like it’s the only thing he can hold onto right now. You lift the diner bag in his direction and give him a smiling farewell.
Your steps are wide. Well, as wide as they can be, given your height. There’s somewhere to be, after all. Even if there’s a nagging feeling in the back of your mind wishing you were sharing this with someone. But you always did this alone, so why change now? Reese passes through your mind, and your heart beats a little faster at him sharing this with you. But is it him that you wanted to share this so badly?
No, you’ll do it alone, as it has been done for so many years. It brings you peace. Something needed right now.
The drive is free of any danger, as it always is with you in the wheel. Bags are unpacked with efficiency and speed, setting everything up is a matter of a few minutes. You’ve noticed this cliff surrounded by a bed of flowers and overlooking a lake some days prior, and knew this would be the perfect spot for your “Scintillans falls”. The trek was eventless and gave you some time to enjoy the nature around Fernweh. Even with everything awful that happened in this town, you can never deny how beautiful it is. It makes you wonder, if these things didn’t happen, this place would be a haven.
The night was unusually dark, even with a half moon illuminating the surroundings. You brought a small blue weak lantern and laid it within the towel beneath you. The wristwatch beeped again. It was time. Setting the camera and fixing the telescope, you began stargazing.
A soft wind blew around you as the stars fell down, painting the skies in a blue hue. The colors of the ocean on a sunny day brightened it, as if hundreds of bright blue fishes jumped down from a huge waterfall. It was mesmerizing.
How would this starlight frame Mal’s face?
No, uhuh, not going there.
Then your mind finds another thought that you shouldn’t linger… But it's there, anyway.
You wonder if your family is between them, traveling through the skies, watching over you with the love they always had. You miss them. More than you care to admit. It should’ve been me.
You hear a faint noise in the distance. Maybe a motorcycle? But your mind is too occupied right now to pay attention. There’s a lone tear lining your right cheek that you fail to notice.
Blinking against it, you start to take pictures.
It’s beautiful tonight.

some dissent on the conflict between the typhon and humanity
boilerplate spoiler disclaimer here: lotta big plot spoilers here. this is a long one, buckle up.
i’ve recently been seeing a lot of posts that’s like “oh the typhon are the good guys actually” and i feel the need to push back against what comes across as borderline contrarianism.
to preface this: I don’t think humanity are “the good guys”, per se. transtar corporation itself as an entity is absolutely unambiguously evil and you will hear no disagreement on that from me; it is steered and commanded by and at the behest of shadowy cyberpunk-adjacent neo-feudal billionaire lords (this is almost directly pointed out in logs you can find in Mooncrash). the arrogance of these people and their lackeys (namely the Yu siblings and their direct subordinates, especially in Psychotronics who had no excuse of ignorance) — their arrogance is a tremendous sin. it is abundantly clear that a core subtext of the game is that capitalism and privatization will consume all it can without regard for anything but profit. capitalism is as much of a devouring, uncaring monster as any typhon. with that said, i cannot agree with the notion that the typhon are “the good guys”. let’s break this down from the top.
the very first interaction humanity has with the typhon is a malfunctioning lunar satellite during early exploration of the solar system, to which they send an astronaut who is immediately attacked (unprovoked!) and killed. all subsequent attempts at communication seem to have failed. The Soviets and US government both agree this is a serious threat that they should contend with together, but because of political squabbles and confirmation bias and outcome bias (and lack of perceived benefit) they part ways and put the project on hold... after more typhon attack scientific personnel just who at the time were largely only observing them, killing them in the process. some idiot in government foists it off on the private sector without realizing the risk they’re creating.
(as a brief aside: outcome bias due to political pressure is the primary reason that both the space shuttles Challenger and Columbia were destroyed; politicos and capitalists putting their own interests above the welfare of their astronauts against the advice of their more informed specialists and anything approaching good sense. the shuttles’ design was compromised by military-industrial interests as well and that was a factor but that’s a story for another time.)
another point to make here: the Typhon appeared at a Lagrangian point - lunar L2, if memory serves. With all the mention of the Great Filter and Fermi’s Question the game makes (down to multiple paintings in Morgan’s apartment!) that is absolutely not a coincidence... because literally any spacefaring species is going to use Lagrangian points due to their benefits for space travel (I’ll spare the details but they make navigation easier). supplementary data from mooncrash logs strongly implies that the Typhon wait on other planes/dimensions/instances of reality for any activity at these points, potentially for millions or billions of years — and that’s the dinner bell, because non-sentient beings probably aren’t going to develop spaceflight. People seem to conveniently forget the following:
The Typhon are sentience-eating interdimensional trapdoor spiders who are heavily implied to have committed species-wide genocides countless times. I dunno about you, but i think maybe genocide-buffet isn’t cool just because some assholes who weren’t held accountable were doing unethical experiments. the reveal at the end of the game makes it clear that humanity’s on the ropes, billions are likely dead and consumed, the vast majority of which were innocent people who had no say whatsoever in whatever Transtar was doing. even if we assume everyone on the station actually knew because “the simulation must be biased!” as i see a common argument (that I disagree with)... people earthside sure seem to have not known.
another aside: i’ve seen people dismiss the idea of mirror neurons in pro-typhon posts re: their lack of them as a supposed excuse, but they seem to conveniently forget that while this among other things are questionable at best in our world, in the setting of Prey, Panpsychism and Orchestrated Objective Reduction are unambigously real (there’s a bunch of references to it and other related concepts to it throughout the game, both in reading material and on whiteboards - the former in the Psychotronics director’s office, the latter in Igwe’s quarters, if memory serves). things work just a tad differently. While Alex is an unreliable narrator, I really don’t think it’s a stretch that the Typhon are literally physically unable to empathize with sentient life.
all of this in mind, part of the reason I find the cooperation ending interesting is precisely because it spells out that conflict and exploitation breeds misery and death, and that forging avenues of communication and empathy is what you should do. the whole point is that transtar was approaching the issue from a consumptive, exploitative mindset, and so were the typhon. both wanted to extract from the other; but unlike the typhon humanity isn’t a hivemind. there was no collective agreement from all seven billion people that all of them should be killed for, whereas the typhon act in unison to consume without fail and without pause, without agency of their own... unless introduced to it via new methods of perception and cognition, i.e. Project Cobalt and the player character.
therein ultimately lies my main issue: while i absolutely think Alex Yu is just a tremendously evil piece of excrement who did so many fucking things hideously wrong (Danielle’s assessment of him is quite accurate), his assertion that humans are quick to project ourselves onto that which we do not understand is extremely relevant here, i.e. the argument that the typhon were just ickle innocent space creatures that were experimented on for no reason and that they must have been suffering is a very human perception and projected assumption they can or do feel the way we do, which is categorically not the case. transtar is evil and amoral precisely because it consumes sentient beings in the way the typhon do: because it is always hungry, but that is not the totality of humanity, merely its worst impulses. the typhon are more force of nature than villain per se, but by the logic that they’re the good guys so’s a tsunami that kills thousands of people who had no say in the climate change that corporations are causing... which is kind of a fucked up victimblamey throughline imo.
Prey’s thesis statement, to me, is that if everyone takes there’s only misery, but sometimes the right thing to do is to give - in this case, the capability to empathize and communicate. transtar was mistaken, but those mistakes must be corrected. humanity can give, where the typhon... don’t, at least not willingly. Morgan outright says it in one log, that we keep putting them (the powers in the interest of consuming and exploiting) into us, instead when we should have put us into them, to build a bridge and a connection for understanding. the whole goddamn point (at least imo) is that without trying to hope, without trying to see, without trying to mend, there is no future.
... but if at your darkest hour you really fucking try to make it right and to give, maybe just maybe there’s a chance there’ll be a change for the better.

Weekly Roundup: Prompt Reminders
MELTY BLOOD
Considering (as far as I'm aware) we never see it in canon, a fic about Sion and Satsuki meeting and forming the Back Alley Alliance would be cool
FGO
Feet appreciation but it's Guda tearing up over the fact Sumner Cas got 10 toes
smut, snuff, i need morgan and oberon to have fucked up insane hatesex. hopefully with copious amount of violence and pain. it's fine if one of them dies btw.
smut, Xiang Yu and Yu Meiren going at it but Xiang Yu being a horse means its really tearing Meiren apart. Good thing her regen ability means she enjoys it!
Gender is a game. Astolfo chose not to play, Sexshifting!Ritsuka is winning handily, and Mordred is losing. Badly. Mordred having a complex and adversarial relationship with gender as a concept, experiencing deep envy for, say, both Extremely Female Mata Hari and Extremely Male Fergus and not being at all able to process why. Maybe finally bonding with Artoria over similar experiences.
smut, Completely heterosexual smut involving Mordred and Hyde. ... I never said it was CIS smut, though - Mordred is a trans man and Hyde is a trans woman.
smut, Castoria discovering 1) what human periods are and 2) that she has a huge fucking kink for drinking period blood.
One more inspired by cleaning up old Interludes: in David’s, he confirms he’s “a lure for giants.” Let’s see how this legendary horndog handles being simultaneously pursued by Gorgon, Kingprotea and Bunyan. (He would pick Kingprotea, like a sane person, if he had any choice. Gorgon is involved. He does not have any choice.)
ANY
something not safe for work, in the sense that it's about characters breaking every OSHA regulation known to god and man.

All done!! This is the last drawing for my short little Pride Month series I did! And I saved this one for last for a reason.
The Heroes Rise Trilogy was the first text based set of games I ever played. And as such it still holds a special place in my heart. I loved the story, the characters, the conflict, and the ending. I’ve always wanted to draw something for this game, and I finally had a good reason to.
So! Here’s a nice little something I wrote up for my MC Morgan Davies and her fiancée wife, Jenny Yu.
+++++
I Do
You have butterflies in your stomach as soon as you open your eyes. Today’s the big day. There’s a fluttering inside your chest and you can’t help but laugh out loud both nervous and excited and you feel the body in the bed next to you let out a groan, stir, and pull the covers over their head. You grin and do the same, shuffling closer to your Fiancée who has her eyes squeezed shut. You reach an arm out and gently lay a hand against her face as you smooth your thumb over her cheek. You watch as her features relax and she smiles before finally her eyes open to regard you with warmth.
“Good morning,” you whisper, moving in close to rest your forehead against hers. You feel her breath against your face before she tilts her head to capture your lips in a soft kiss. Lazy and slow, warm under sheets that neither of you quite want to leave.
“Morning,” she breaths as you pull apart, taking your hand in one of her own, “Today’s the day.” She smiles but it doesn’t seem to fit her face.
“Having second thoughts, Jenny?” you joke because you know she’s not. You know she’s just as nervous as you, possibly more.
“Of course not.” Then she grins, “If I don’t marry you then who else would!” You give a mock gasp and slap her lightly on the shoulder which rewards you with a loud and bright laugh and you finally pull the covers down. You lay there in each other’s arms with the early morning light casting a warm glow and with her hair splayed around her head the way it is you think she looks like an angel.
“I can’t believe how lucky I am,” the words leaving you in a quiet breath unwilling to break the serene atmosphere that has descended upon you both.
“Ditto.” You snort a laugh and pull her in close, placing a kiss to her forehead before you hug her tight to your chest. As you rest your chin atop her head you let out a sigh.
“I guess we should get up. Big day ahead of us.” You dig your fingers into her arms as you squeeze her tightly one more time before letting go and sitting up, “So much to do.” You yawn and rub the sleep from your eyes as the rustling of sheets besides you quietens and is replaced by the sound of the bed creaking.
“We have to get ready then there’s the Pre-ceremony photos…”
“Then we have to travel to Gran’s estate,” you mention as you too get out of bed.
“In separate cars.”
“In separate cars,” you point to Jenny even thought she has her back towards you, “Technically as soon as we leave this room we’re not supposed to see each other again until the ceremony,” you mention as you pull up your messages through your MeChip. You scroll quickly through the news of the day and jump when arms wrap around you from behind.
“I don’t think I can spend that long apart,” Jenny mumbles from behind you, unusually open with her emotions. You rest your hands over hers.
“But after that, Jenny Yu…” you turn in her grip to face her and smile with all the love you can muster, “We will have the rest of our lives to spend together.”
-----
You’re nervous. Your palms are sweaty and you’re thankful you had the forethought to choose a sleeveless dress. Pops of blue energy are going off around you and you have to keep smoothing out the skirt of your dress as your powers continue to lift sections into the air. You stand in the foyer and wait for your turn and you’re so nervous but you’re so excited and you know Jenny is already at the altar as you heard her arrive earlier. There are whispers and murmurs beyond the door and your heart flutters in your chest at the thought of the crowd.
You and Jenny have been through so much together. Since you first rose to fame, your identity being revealed, the aftermath that followed. The Hero Project. Having to choose sides and how could they ever think you would choose to go against her? And what came after that? Well… A lot of it was a blur. There had been so much going on, so much to take in and consider and you were mostly powerless at the time, racing against the clock to fight those with influence far greater than yours… Then she had almost died, and you had been terrified and honestly you still were. Some nights you wake up crying and she holds you and whispers sweet words in your ear until you fall asleep wrapped safely in the comfort of her arms. You do the same for her when her nightmares have her crying out in the dark though those nights were fewer and further between now. You were healing together, growing stronger, growing closer.
And today was the day that all those promises all those sweet kisses and tender moments would be solidified and officiated and you couldn’t wait.
Your thoughts are running at mach speed and you don’t realize you’re hovering until you hear the sound of your mom’s laughter as she places her hands on your shoulders.
“Be still my love,” she smiles as she gently pushes you back to the ground. You stumble a little as your feet make contact with the carpet but luckily your dad is there to steady you at the elbow, “It’s almost time.” She frames your face with her hands and you place yours over hers, “Are you ready?” she asks you and you grin through all your nerves.
“I’ve never been more prepared for anything in my life,” you reply as your heart leaps into your throat. She leans forwards and touches her nose to yours briefly before pulling away.
“I’ll see you three out there,” she smiles before turning and leaving through the doors before you. You get a brief glimpse of people gathered, heroes and friends alike and then the doors swing shut and they are gone. You take a deep breath and look to the side your dad is not when a hand lays itself lightly on your arm. Your smile wobbles as you look down at your Gran holding the rings on a white satin pillow.
“You look lovely dear,” she beams up at you as she squeezes your arm.
“Thanks Gran. I’m so nervous,” you laugh and it’s a little strained and the blue sparks of energy are going off again.
“Anyone would be!” she says, “Getting married is a big thing. I was nervous when I got married to your Grandpa, and you should have seen your father on his wedding day!” You look at your dad who’s face has turned a slight shade darker.
“Mom!” His laugh is embarrassed but he’s smiling all the same and your Gran chuckles before pulling ahead of you, “I reckon it’s about my time to head down the aisle.” She turns and looks back at you, “Chin up dear! This is a momentous day!” And then she too is gone. You close your eyes and blow air past puffed up cheeks as you will your heart to settle into something resembling a normal rhythm. It’s difficult but you succeed enough then when your eyes open the blue is gone and your feet are still firmly planted on the ground.
“You ready pumpkin?” Your dad says and you turn your head to look at him and give a simple nod. His lips stretch wide and you see his eyes shine as he beams down at you, “I’m so proud of you sweetheart,” he breathes as he hooks his arm through yours, “You’ve grown up into a fine young woman and I couldn’t be any happier for you and Jenny.” Emotions well in your chest and you have to raise your head to keep your tears from ruining your makeup.
“You’re going to make me cry,” you laugh breathlessly and you blink the tears away. His laugh is a deep rumble that goes a long way to settling your nerves.
“Then let’s get going. I think she’s waited long enough.” You take one more breath before you nod and then you too are stepping through the doors.
Almost everyone turns to watch as you walk down the aisle and you squeeze your dad’s arm tightly as small blue sparks dance around your head. As your steps take you closer to the altar you spy your love and you know your skirt is floating again but you don’t care and when she turns around to face you you beam at her. She grins back and you can see her eyes water as you’re led up the last few steps. You turn your head and your dad kisses you on the cheek, squeezes your hand one more time and then steps back to join your mom in the front row. Your Gran gives you a reassuring smile before you turn and face Jenny and you don’t bother to dampen the pops of blue anymore. You don’t think anyone minds anyways and soon the officiant starts.
“My name is Rebellion, and I have the privilege of performing this ceremony today,” the large space falls quiet and all eyes fall on you, “On behalf of Morgan and Jenny, welcome and thank you for being here. For those of you who aren’t aware, a couple of years ago Morgan saved my life and opened my eyes and I have worked hard every day to become the idol she claimed I could be.” Rebellion nods at you and you smile back, “By your presence here today you celebrate with them the love they have discovered in each other and you give your support in their decision to commit themselves to one another for the rest of their lives. This afternoon we are here to celebrate love. This is the union of two individuals in heart, body, mind, and spirit. Therefore marriage is not to be entered into lightly, but reverently, honestly, and deliberately. And it is into this union that Morgan and Jenny come now to be joined. Now Morgan and Jenny, please join hands and face each other.”
You turn to Jenny once more and take her hands, shaking as you do and her palms are clammy as you intertwine your fingers.
“Morgan Davies, do you take Jenny Yu to be your wife?”
“I do.” Your heart is pounding and you don’t think you’ve ever been this happy.
“Jenny Yu, do you take Morgan Davies to be your wife?
“I do.” Her hands tighten around yours momentarily.
“Morgan, will you now read the vows you have prepared?” You clear your throat and you need no notes, you have your vows imprinted on your brain and you are ready as you look into the warmth of Jenny’s brown eyes.
“Jenny, you have been my best friend, mentor, playmate, confidant, and my greatest challenge. But most importantly, you are the love of my life and you make me happier than I could ever imagine and more loved than I ever thought possible,” you stumble on your words as your throat becomes stoppered by held back tears, “You have made me a better person, as our love for one another is reflected in the way I live my life. So I am truly blessed to be a part of your life, which as of today becomes our life together.” Your tears are running now and you do nothing to stop them, “From this moment, I take you as my best friend for life. I pledge to honour, encourage, and support you through our walk together. When our way becomes difficult, I promise to stand by you and uplift you, so that through our union we can accomplish more than we could alone. I promise to work at our love and always make you a priority in my life. With every beat of my heart, I will love you.”
There’s sniffing in the crowd and behind you and even Jenny wipes at her face as Rebellion looks to her.
“Jenny, will you now please read the vows you have prepared?” It takes a few moments as Jenny clears her throat and quickly wipes her fingers over her cheeks before she grabs your hand and starts her vows.
“Morgan. I see these vows not as promises but as privileges: I get to laugh with you and cry with you; care for you and share with you. I get to run with you and walk with you; build with you and live with you. I get to have you be the person I spend the rest of my life with. I get to be there for you and support you. I don’t have to honour and cherish you – I get to.” You smile at her through your tears and your grip tightens on her, “If you grow weak, I’ll be there to fight your battle for you. I’ll help you with your responsibilities and make your problems my own in order to spread the weight a bit more evenly. If you have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders, I’ll be standing shoulder-to-shoulder with you. Today is the beginning of the rest of our lives. I choose to spend today, and all of my tomorrows, with you.”
You are almost blinded by blue and from the corner of your eye you see your Gran step forwards with the rings, which Rebellion takes gently from her and turns back to you.
“Morgan. Take this ring and place it on Jenny ‘s finger. Repeat after me: Jenny, I give you this ring as a symbol of the promise I made to you today.”
You reach out and grab the ring, such a small and delicate thing and you slide it carefully onto Jenny’s finger before you look up into her face, “Jenny,” you croak, your voice cracking, “I give you this ring as a symbol of the promise I made to you today.”
“Now Jenny. Please take this ring and place it on Morgan‘s finger. Repeat after me: Morgan, I give you this ring as a symbol of the promise I made to you today.”
Jenny grabs the ring without taking her eyes from you and she lifts your hand as she slides the band of silver and gold onto your finger, “Morgan,” her voice breaks upon speaking your name and you smile at her, “I give you this ring as a symbol of the promise I made to you today.”
“Having pledged your love and promise to one another today in front of all of your friends and family and by the power vested in me, I now pronounce you wife and wife.” Your smile is wide as you look at your new wife, “You may now kiss the bride.”
Neither of you need any further encouragement.
Jenny telegraphs her moves clearly and you grin as she wraps her arms around your neck and jumps. You hook your arms under her legs and lift up to you and then your lips meet and everything else around you is drowned out by the feeling of your love.

Prey treasure hunt achievement
Tumblr media
At the end, if you follow its plan and gave yourself little to no Typhon enhancements, January says that you are probably safe to return to Earth, but its coding will force it to do whatever it can to stop you from escaping. Lampshaded early on - the reason you can trust it, it says, is that despite being an AI, it's also a digitized version of you, and while it might be working to destroy the station, it's Necessarily Evil to keep Earth from being overrun by Typhon. January is an operator programmed to do everything it can to help or otherwise compel you to set the station to self-destruct, along with everyone on it, to ensure that no Typhon can ever reach Earth.Your AI Mission Control is programmed to turn against you if you go against the mission parameters established by the previous version of you - in turning against you, it is in fact obeying its programming, as without your memory, you are the one now working against your own previous goals. There's no real sense of "up" or "down", for the most part, and it can be very disorienting when you do it for the first time. 2-D Space: Averted when spacewalking or exploring anywhere that has microgravity. You’ll have to rely on the tools you find on the station - along with your wits, weapons and mind-bending abilities - to combat the growing threat and hopefully survive. Now you must uncover the secrets hiding in the depths of the space station while being hunted by the mysterious alien force that has taken over. You wake up in your apartment where it is revealed that it is actually 2035, and that you have actually been living in a simulation aboard the Talos I for the past three years. In 2032, you are recruited by your brother to serve aboard the Talos I space station, but during some some suspicious preliminary tests you and the scientists testing you are attacked by shapeshifting aliens known as the Typhon. You take the role of Morgan Yu, Director of Research and a key subject of morally dubious experiments designed to improve the human race for the TranStar Corporation. The game's development was led by then-CEO and director Raphaël Colantonio and his team in Austin, with Chris Avellone working on the project. Not to be confused with the identically named 2006 game, Prey. The game was released on for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Prey is a 2017 Psychological Thriller Sci-Fi First-Person Shooter/ Immersive Sim developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda.

After we left Hang Jiahe’s place, Xu Yin hastened off. No one knew what she was thinking, and all she left was a staggering silhouette.
When we returned to Marius’ car, we hadn’t recovered from the confrontation with Hang Jiahe either, so we sunk into silence. I subconsciously realized that Marius seemed… somewhat sad?
MC: Marius, are you okay?
Marius: … You noticed.
MC: If something’s troubling you, tell me. Don’t keep it pent up inside.
Tumblr media
Marius: …
Marius: I keep thinking back these days on what Wang Chunchong said to me…
Marius: When I heard Hang Jiahe’s story, I suddenly… felt a little scared…
MC: Scared?
Marius: Yeah. I live in the same world as Xu Yin, Wang Chunchong, and Hang Jiahe.
Marius: But I’m luckier than them, as my brother and dad both love me – so I’ve got a happy family overall.
Marius: So I don’t have to climb up, step by step the way Xu Yin and Wang Chunchong have to, just to live.
Marius: And I definitely am not like Hang Jiahe, who couldn’t even choose her own life.
Marius: But all of what I have right now is built on the foundation of Pax and the von Hagen family.
Marius: As the von Hagen stands at the very summit, we have no problems whatsoever.
Marius: But if one day, all of this were gone, could I still be this happy?
Marius: Would my day still come?
MC: Of course it will.
Marius: Why?
MC: Because whether day comes or not isn’t determined solely by the outside world.
MC: Like this.
I took out my phone and turned on the flashlight.
Tumblr media
Instantly, a thin white light cut through the air, lighting up the dark interior of the car.
MC: Even if one is in the middle of the darkness, if you can find a light, even if it’s the thinnest, weakest sliver…
MC: It can still light up the darkness.
MC: Hang Jiahe’s story is a tragedy from top to bottom. No one could find the light to save themselves in the darkness.
MC: But unlike them, you are a light yourself.
MC: Even if you discard the halo of Pax and the von Hagen family, your own light can illuminate darkness.
Marius: …
Marius looked at me quietly, his eyes glittering in the weak light.
Marius: Jiejie, you’re right, but… not completely right.
MC: What?
Marius: Not only can I emit light, but I’ve also found the light that can illuminate me.
MC: !!!
MC: …
Marius: …
MC: … A-anyways, Marius, about what Hang Jiahe said at the end…
Seeing the atmosphere in the car get stranger and stranger, I rushed to change the topic.
Marius: Though I don’t want to admit it, I do think she’s right.
Marius: It’s impossible for us to incriminate her with the evidence we have now.
MC: But the police haven’t found out anything, and Hang Jiahe wears gloves, so she wouldn’t have left fingerprints…
MC: There’s no way for us to prove that she was the one to use the hammer…
Marius: …
Marius: No, we might have a way.

Waiting Room
Very appropriately, it was raining in Stellis on the day of the trial for Hang Fei and Qi Yu’s case. I arrived at the meeting room early, preparing to reread all my materials, so I could better face this trial where odds were winning were pretty low.
MC: (Only Marius would have come up with this method…)
✼ ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ ✼
[Flashback]
Tumblr media
Darius Morgan: You want Hang Jiahe herself to admit everything she did in court?
Marius: Yes, that’s the most effective method I can think of right now.
MC: But… how does that work…
MC: …
MC: Are you thinking of imitating the psychological tactics I used against Fannie before in court?
Marius nodded.
MC: But Hang Jiahe’s not like Fannie, so how do we get at her?
Marius: About that… do you remember what we went to her house and you noticed that her glove had broken?
MC: “Looks like this glove design quality isn’t that great either, since it broke on me without me realizing…”
MC: “I’ll look for more durable designs.”
MC: You mean that Hang Jiahe might have accidentally left fingerprints or other clues?
Marius: Yes.
MC: That is possible, but this might not necessarily be of any use against her.
Marius: I got in touch with the production factory of that toolbox. Though the number’s carved on the hammer’s iron core…
Marius: The same number is also secretly carved on the handle, and only the factory itself can identify it.
Marius: They did this to prevent people from making fakes – kind of a trade secret.
Marius: I found out about it thanks to some connections.
MC: Thanks for your hard work.
Marius: No big deal – anyways, back on topic.
Marius: We can send the murder weapon to the factory for confirmation. If all goes as planned…
Marius: Assuming that the number on the core and the handle don’t match, Captain Morgan, we’ll have to trouble you to re-examine the murder weapon again.
Marius: Though this time, what we need to identify are any residues or biological indices on it.
MC: You suspect that there are Hang Jiahe’s fingerprints on the murder weapon?
Marius: Yes.
Darius Morgan: But, Marius, putting aside whether we can even get this examination in before trial…
Darius Morgan: With how much time has passed, it’s highly unlikely that any residues are left, even if they existed back then.
Marius: I know. It’s just…
MC: Captain Morgan… we can only stake our bets on this.
Darius Morgan: And what if we come up empty?
MC: Then I will still confront Hang Jiahe in court with all the truths I have until the final moment.
Darius Morgan: You probably understand that if you fail, we might never catch Hang Jiahe again.
MC: I understand, but I’m sure our effort will display results. I will not give up if we haven’t reached the end yet.
Marius: Captain Morgan, I’m also requesting this of you.
Darius Morgan: … I understand.
Darius Morgan: Within the scope of law, I will do my best to have Wang Chunchong stand in court as the suspect. As for the rest…
He smiled at me.
Darius Morgan: It’s all on you.
[Flashback end]
✼ ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ ✼
As he promised, Darius dealt with everything after.
Tumblr media
MC: (My emotions are a mess… I don’t even know what to say right now…)
MC: (I’ll go through the files again.)
I sunk back into case-file reading. In the middle of that, Marius pushed open the door with a bag full of breakfast.
Tumblr media
Marius: You arrived so early.
MC: Yeah, I wanted to go through the information once more before appearing in court, just to ensure that I’m fully prepared.
Marius: Don’t be so nervous, eat your breakfast first.
MC: Thanks.
Marius: No problem. Oh, right, Captain Morgan had me give you this.
Marius handed me a document.
Marius: This is the information Captain Morgan got when they were investigating Hang Jiahe’s alibi.
Marius: There are blind spots in the villa’s surveillance – Hang Jiahe probably used them to come and go from it.
Marius: The police are currently looking for any witnesses around that area.
Marius: Aside from that, the two identical toolboxes were ones that Hang Jiahe bought around January 25th.
Marius: Wang Chunchong was also in the apartment during then. She probably used the opportunity when she said she returned home to get clothes…
Marius: To get the hammer handle with Wang Chunchong’s fingerprints.
MC: Understood.
[Obtained Police’s Investigation Report]
Marius: Also, this is the examination report that the police currently have on the murder weapon.
Marius: The factory confirmed that the murder weapon’s handle is indeed from set No. 22, and the other thing we guessed…
Marius flipped to the second page of the report, where it was clearly written “No results currently regarding residues or biological indices.”
MC: (Looks like we can’t tell whether there are fingerprints on it for now…)
MC: …
Marius: Hold onto this report.
MC: Okay.
Marius: Alrighty, take your time eating, then. I won’t bug you anymore.
Marius: In court, just do what you want – don’t be too nervous.
Marius: Everything will go well.
MC: Yep.
Marius left with a smile. I looked at that examination report, making a silent decision.
MC: (I’ll proceed with all I have!)

CRIMINAL COURT
10:00 AM
Judge: Court is in session. The court calls the People of Stellis versus suspect Wang Chunchong for the homicide case of Hang Fei and Qi Yu.
Judge: First, may the prosecution give their opening statement.
Prosecutor: I represent the People of Stellis against Wang Chunchong.
Prosecutor: On the night of January 28th, Hang Fei and Qi Yu, residents of Yaofu Community, were murdered at home. Their corpses were found not long ago.
Prosecutor: Investigation revealed that Wang Chunchong had severe conflicts with the victims due to a betrothal gift issue.
Prosecutor: That night, Wang Chunchong took food items laced with special drug G24D into the victims’ house under the pretext of apologizing.
Prosecutor: After he led the victims to eat the food, Hang Fei and Qi Yu fell unconscious due to the drug.
Prosecutor: The suspect took this opportunity to move the victims to the floor and used a hammer in the room to deal lethal blows to their heads.
Prosecutor: After, the suspect brought the bodies to his home using the apartment’s special fire escape route and placed them inside suitcases.
Prosecutor: After the suspect went to the natural park’s back mountain, then buried the bodies and the murder weapon.
Prosecutor: Investigation revealed Wang Chunchong’s fingerprints on the murder weapon, as well as the DNA of the victims in the suitcases in his home.
Prosecutor: The surveillance cameras where the burial location was clearly recorded Wang Chunchong’s entrance and exit.
Prosecutor: Thus, the prosecution believes that Wang Chunchong had full motive for the crime and that the evidence is conclusive.
Judge: Does the defendant have any objections regarding the prosecution’s statement?
Tumblr media
Wang Chunchong: I didn’t kill Hang Fei and Qi Yu! It wasn’t me!
MC: I believe that there are major flaws in the prosecution’s evidence chain. The true culprit of this case is Hang Jiahe, not Wang Chunchong!
MC: First, the natural park’s surveillance footage only recorded Wang Chunchong’s movements at the park’s front door.
MC: It is impossible to judge where he went after entering the park. Thus, this evidence is untenable.
 PROSECUTION OBJECTION
Prosecutor: Objection! As the defense lawyer believes that it is impossible to determine that Wang Chunchong went to bury the bodies based on the natural park door’s surveillance…
Prosecutor: The prosecution also believes that it is impossible to determine that Wang Chunchong did not bury the bodies.
Prosecutor: Thus, the prosecution believes that Wang Chunchong is still highly suspect of performing post-murder corpse disposal.
 OBJECTION
MC: Objection! The defense has evidence to prove that Wang Chunchong did not go to bury bodies that night.
 Select: Recording of Simon’s murder
MC: That night, Wang Chunchong went to the natural park to meet Simon on the north mountain.
MC: This recording indicates when Wang Chunchong murdered Simon, which is the same time as what happened in the park.
MC: Thus, Wang Chunchong could not have been simultaneously discarding the corpses at the same time at the foot of the mountain.
MC: Simon’s murder case is an essential part of this case.
MC: Hang Jiahe knew of Wang Chunchong’s plan to murder Simon, and thus chose the same day to murder Hang Fei and Qi Yu.
MC: Only in this way could she successfully frame Wang Chunchong.
Prosecutor: Defense lawyer, what evidence do you have that proves that Hang Jiahe knew of Wang Chunchong’s plan?
 Select: Wang Chunchong’s Recording Pen
MC: Wang Chunchong murdered Simon because Tyson requested it of him.
MC: And Hang Jiahe was the one who introduced Wang Chunchong to Tyson.
MC: Hang Jiahe, Tyson, and Wang Chunchong were all aware of when and where Simon was to be murdered.
 PROSECUTION OBJECTION
Prosecutor: Objection! The defense lawyer claims that Hang Jiahe was the one who murdered Hang Fei and Qi Yu.
Prosecutor: But according to investigation, Hang Jiahe, Hang Fei, and Qi Yu were a happy family.
Prosecutor: And the relationships that Hang Jiahe had with her adoptive parents were excellent.
Prosecutor: She has no motive to commit the crime.
 OBJECTION
MC: Objection! Hang Jiahe does have motive to commit the crime, and it is stronger than Wang Chunchong’s.
Select: Hang Jiahe’s Hidden Video Records
MC: During the ten-plus years Hang Jiahe was fostered in the Hang family, she suffered inhuman abuse at the hands of her foster father.
MC: This damaged her physiological health and ruined her life.
MC: Thus, Hang Jiahe hates all those who pushed her into the depths.
MC: This does not only include Hang Fei and Qi Yu, but it also includes her biological parents Xu Yin and Tyson, as well as her fiancé Wang Chunchong.
MC: Judge, I request Hang Jiahe’s appearance in court.
Judge: A reasonable request. Summon Hang Jiahe to court.
Tumblr media
Hang Jiahe: I did hate those people who made living even worse than death for me, but I never murdered anyone.
Hang Jiahe: Also, when the murder occurred, I was not in the apartment. I have an alibi.
 OBJECTION
MC: Objection! Within the time that the crime occurred, you did return to the apartment.
Hang Jiahe: Oh? Do you have proof?
Select: January 28 Apartment Full-Day Surveillance Footage
MC: This is the full-day surveillance footage the day the crime happened.
MC: Based on big data lab analysis, comparison, and person-eye identification, Hang Jiahe appeared for a total of 6 times in the footage.
MC: Individually, these times are: 12pm, 7pm, 8pm, 9pm, 9:45pm, and 10:15pm.
MC: The reason why she was repeatedly entering and exiting the apartment was to complete her alibi.
 PROSECUTION OBJECTION
Prosecutor: Objection! According to the forensics identification results, Hang Fei and Qi Yu died on the 28th after 10pm.
Prosecutor: With Hang Jiahe’s physique and strength, it would be impossible to have moved and struck the bodies, then cleaned the scene, within 15 minutes.
 OBJECTION
MC: Objection! Hang Fei and Qi Yu did not die on the 28th after 10pm.
MC: They died after 12:30pm that day.
 PROSECUTION OBJECTION
Prosecutor: Objection! The victims’ surmised time of death was determined by forensics experts. Defense lawyer, do not speak without grounds.
 OBJECTION
MC: Objection! The bodies of Hang Fei and Qi Yu had undergone severe decay. When forensics determined the time of death, aside from basing it on the corpses’ anatomical analysis…
MC: They also based it on the victims’ final movements and the surveillance footage of the apartment on the 28th.
MC: In the footage, Qi Yu last appeared at 9:45pm, but the Qi Yu that appeared was not the real Qi Yu.
MC: Instead, it was Hang Jiahe in disguise.
 PROSECUTION OBJECTION
Prosecutor: Objection! A security guard saw Qi Yu who appeared in the grand lobby at 9:45pm, so she could not have been another person in disguise.
 OBJECTION
MC: Objection! The Qi Yu that the security guard saw was wearing a face mask and hat, so he could not have seen her full face.
Prosecutor: Even so, the hammer responsible for the murder of Hang Fei and Qi Yu had Wang Chunchong’s fingerprints on them. Defense lawyer, how do you explain this?
MC: That was because Hang Jiahe had switched out a part of the murder weapon.
Prosecutor: Defense lawyer, what proof do you have?
 Select: Hammer Photo
MC: The hammer that served as the murder weapon is a dual-purpose hammer.
MC: With similar models, one can switch out the handle while leaving the iron core.
MC: Hang Jiahe used this fact, switching the handle she owned with Wang Chunchong’s fingerprints on them onto the murder weapon.
 PROSECUTION OBJECTION
Prosecution: Objection! All mentioned methods are merely the defense lawyer’s conjectures, with no evidence to support them.
 OBJECTION
MC: Objection! I do have evidence!
 Select: Police’s Examination Report
MC: According to investigation, the set No.22 toolbox in Hang Jiahe’s house and the set No.21 toolbox in Room 1001…
MC: Were both purchased by Hang Jiahe.
MC: Why else would she buy two of the same toolboxes, if not to switch the hammer handles?
Hang Jiahe: You’ve spoken so much, but do you have any evidence that directly proves that I killed them?
Hang Jiahe: If not, then everything you’ve said is just a made-up story.
MC: I do…
I looked at Hang Jiahe, sighing deeply. This moment had finally come.
MC: Just in case, we applied for another examination of the murder weapon, especially the handle portion.
MC: This is the examination report that the police gave.
I took out the last examination report that Marius gave me, showing it for all in court to see.
MC: In this report, we noticed a vital piece of evidence.
Hang Jiahe: What evidence?
MC: The production factory confirmed that the No.21 hammer, the murder weapon, had the forgery-preventing No.22 carved in its handle.
MC: Based on this, we requested that any residues and biological indices on the murder weapon to be examined, and…
I stopped speaking and looked towards Hang Jiahe.
Hang Jiahe: What are you looking at?
MC: Miss Hang, are your gloves alright today? They haven’t split again, have they?
Hang Jiahe: W-what are you saying this for?
MC: No major reason. It’s just that you seemed somewhat troubled about this when we met before.
Hang Jiahe: Of course I’d get angry over my gloves breaking. Can’t I?
MC: Of course you can. But, Miss Hang, have you experienced your gloves breaking on you before?
Hang Jiahe: W-what are you trying to say?
Hang Jiahe’s originally calm face grew agitated, and a bead of sweat slid down her neck.
MC: Nothing, I’m just asking a question. This shouldn’t be a hard-to-answer question.
Hang Jiahe: Whether it has or hasn’t, does this have anything to do with the case?
MC: Whether it has or hasn’t isn’t for you to decide.
MC: But since you’ve said this, I’ll ask you some questions that are more related to the case.
I grasped the file in my hand tight, looked straight at Hang Jiahe, and added some emphasis to my words.
MC: Miss Hang, why did you return so many times to the apartment on the night of the crime?
MC: Why did you buy toolboxes of the same model before the murder?
Hang Jiahe: I… I…
MC: Also, why did these toolboxes just happen to appear in yours and the victims’ homes?
MC: Why are so many coincidences tied to you?
MC: Hang Jiahe, how do you explain this?
Hang Jiahe: No… no way, my fingerprints couldn’t have been on the hammer!
Hang Jiahe looked at me, her eyes gradually growing fiercer.
Hang Jiahe: I clearly confirmed it so many times when I was switching the handle and killing those two beasts.
Hang Jiahe: I shouldn’t have gotten anything wrong, so why did something still slip through?
MC: So, Hang Jiahe, you admit that you did murder Hang Fei and Qi Yu?
Hang Jiahe: So what if I did? It’s Hang Fei’s fault for running into my room that night and raising a hand against me again!
Hang Jiahe: I’ve had enough! I won’t give him another chance to humiliate me as he pleases!
MC: Then why did you murder Qi Yu?
MC: She never stopped Hang Fei? Before, she clearly…
Hang Jiahe: Qi Yu… hah, she did try to stop him that night, but she should have tried long ago!
Hang Jiahe: She’s been a bystander for so many years!
Hang Jiahe: They should both go to hell together!
✼ ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ ✼
Judge: Per court trial, the prosecution’s accusations against Wang Chunchong lack evidence and are untenable.
Judge: Simultaneously, multiple pieces of evidence indicate high suspicion against Hang Jiahe in this case.
Judge: Defense lawyer, it seems that your guesses were all correct, and the risks you took this time were all quite interesting.
Judge: Leave the rest of the work to the criminal investigation department.
Judge: Court is adjourned!

New Picks in Magical Realism: beautiful book covers
Build Your House Around My Body by Violet Kupersmith
Two young women go missing decades apart. Both are fearless, both are lost. And both will have their revenge. 1986 The teenage daughter of a wealthy Vietnamese family loses her way in an abandoned rubber plantation while fleeing her angry father and is forever changed. 2011 A young, unhappy Vietnamese American woman disappears from her new home in Saigon without a trace. The fates of these two women are inescapably linked, bound together by past generations, by ghosts and ancestors, by the history of possessed bodies and possessed lands. Alongside them, we meet a young boy who is sent to a boarding school for the métis children of French expatriates, just before Vietnam declares its independence from colonial rule; two Frenchmen who are trying to start a business with the Vietnam War on the horizon; and the employees of the Saigon Spirit Eradication Co., who find themselves investigating strange occurrences in a farmhouse on the edge of a forest. Each new character and timeline brings us one step closer to understanding what binds them all. Part puzzle, part revenge tale, part ghost story, this book takes us from colonial mansions to ramshackle zoos, from sweaty nightclubs to the jostling seats of motorbikes, from ex-pat flats to sizzling back-alley street carts. Spanning more than fifty years of Vietnamese history and barreling toward an unforgettable conclusion, this is a time-traveling, heart-pounding, border-crossing fever dream of a novel that will haunt you long after the last page.
On Fragile Waves by E. Lily Yu
Firuzeh and her brother Nour are children of fire, born in an Afghanistan fractured by war. When their parents, their Atay and Abay, decide to leave, they spin fairy tales of their destination, the mythical land and opportunities of Australia. As the family journeys from Pakistan to Indonesia to Nauru, heading toward a hope of home, they must rely on fragile and temporary shelters, strangers both mercenary and kind, and friends who vanish as quickly as they’re found. When they arrive in Australia, what seemed like a stable shore gives way to treacherous currents. Neighbors, classmates, and the government seek their own ends, indifferent to the family’s fate. For Firuzeh, her fantasy worlds provide some relief, but as her family and home splinter, she must surface from these imaginings and find a new way.
The Wide Starlight by Nicole Lesperance
According to Arctic legend, if you whistle at the Northern Lights, they'll swoop down and carry you off forever. Sixteen-year-old Eline Davis knows it's true because it happened to her mother. Eli was there that night on the remote glacier in Svalbard, when her mother whistled, then vanished. Years later, Eli is living with her dad on Cape Cod. When Eli discovers the Northern Lights will be visible for one night on the Cape, she hatches a plan to use the lights to contact her missing mother. And it works. Her mother arrives with a hazy story of where she's been all this time. Eli knows no one will believe them, so she keeps it all a secret. But when magical, dangerous things start happening--narwhals appearing in Cape Cod Bay, meteorites landing in the yard by the hundreds, three shadowy fairytale princesses whispering ominous messages--the secrets start to become more like lies. It's all too much, too fast, and Eli pushes her mother away, not expecting her to disappear as abruptly as she appeared. Her mother's gone again, and Eli's devastated. Until she finds the note written in mother's elegant scrawl: Find me where I left you. And so, off to Svalbard Eli goes.
Caul Baby by Morgan Jerkins
Laila desperately wants to become a mother, but each of her previous pregnancies has ended in heartbreak. This time has to be different, so she turns to the Melancons, an old and powerful Harlem family known for their caul, a precious layer of skin that is the secret source of their healing power. When a deal for Laila to acquire a piece of caul falls through, she is heartbroken, but when the child is stillborn, she is overcome with grief and rage. What she doesn’t know is that a baby will soon be delivered in her family—by her niece, Amara, an ambitious college student—and delivered to the Melancons to raise as one of their own. Hallow is special: she’s born with a caul, and their matriarch, Maman, predicts the girl will restore the family’s prosperity. Growing up, Hallow feels that something in her life is not right. Did Josephine, the woman she calls mother, really bring her into the world? Why does her cousin Helena get to go to school and roam the streets of New York freely while she’s confined to the family’s decrepit brownstone? As the Melancons’ thirst to maintain their status grows, Amara, now a successful lawyer running for district attorney, looks for a way to avenge her longstanding grudge against the family. When mother and daughter cross paths, Hallow will be forced to decide where she truly belongs.   Engrossing, unique, and page-turning, Caul Baby illuminates the search for familial connection, the enduring power of tradition, and the dark corners of the human heart.

Prey fic: Prism
The installation of the Looking Glass has turned Morgan Yu’s office into a prism. The two faces: the shimmering volume screen and the bank of office windows. Maybe even the elevator and the far side of the lobby, if she really stretches the flight of fancy.
All that golden light she and her brother have made, and she’s about to lose all of it. The simulation starts tomorrow. The creation of people with access to superhuman abilities only the Yus can imagine.
Good. Good. It’s all going to work so well.
So why the fancy? Not enough breakfast?
Within the sides of the prism are the things the transforming light touches: her monitor, with its own light; herself, hands clasped behind her back as she looks through glass and glass and space; the hired killer she stole from her father, now practicing the ‘wait’ part of ‘hurry up and wait’ just inside her office. She has everything she wants.
It should be raining. That would suit her (melancholy, temporary) mood better. In the real apartment her San Francisco simulation is based on, it could be raining. She liked to work while the silver drops flowed down the floor-to-ceiling glass. Sunlight caught on rectangles of golden reflections. But raindrops wouldn’t fall in space. They’d be pure spheres, orbiting the station like Saturn’s rings. What a beautiful waste of water it would be if she could surround Talos with a storm.
If she can just find out enough, wring enough material from the people-resources beneath her feet, maybe one day she can invent that, too.
(Prompt: Rainy Day)

Weekly Roundups: Prompts
Kara no Kyoukai
Tsukihime
Everyone is a Saberface? Wrong. Saber is a Kohakuface. Chaos ensues.
Fate/Stay Night
In some early versions of Arthurian Myth, Mordred just straight up wins…and marries Guinevere to legitimize their rule. That’s obviously multiple flavors of absurd in PHH, but hey, so’s most of the actual plot of FGO. Give me Guin and Mo romance and/or fucking, in any situation. Maybe a sweet if kinda messed-up second love at Chaldea, or a dark NTR plot in a flashback, or the first mistaken for the second by the Knights. (“Guin is a Rinface” preferred but not required.)
Yariyumi has gone on a few pool dates before, I would like them to go on another, please.
It turns out that Guinevere is physically identical to Aoi Tohsaka, what does Rin have to say about it?
Archer and Sitonai spend a lot of time together, archer carries her to her room when she falls asleep, they hold hands when walking just cause. Then, it surges a rumor that Archer is dating Sitonai, cue to archer getting bad looks and then having to explain to all of Chaldea that they're brother and sister
Finding that this new Knight Mordred, is in actuality her own Son with Morgan. Saber reflects on the similarities between their origins as the results of an affair (If Artoria even is the result of an affair in the Fate universe anyway) and on how right now in Camelot an affair is going on between her wife and her best Knight even as she speaks. I don't have any idea where this would lead her, I just always thought it was interesting just how commonly affairs come up in Arthurian myth.
Smut, y'know maybe a good majority of the carnage in heaven's feel cold've been prevented if someone got sakura a hitachi magic wand & a subscription to playgirl.
Fate/Extra
one of the other servants (doesn't matter who) sees BB post-slutification and trains her into a proper young lady.
Based on recent events let's get some toxic Yuri up in this bitch and let Kiara fuck Taiga
After the latest reveal in the Seraph manga I want to see Kiara being ripped apart by Unlimited Lost Works.
BB recovers from all the sluttification and realizes she's into it
Emiya Alter sees Jaguar Warrior for the first time and goes through a trauma-induced panic. Only his teacher can bring him back to his senses
BB in complete disgust of the amount of bimbofication and brain drain erotica her master has been reading about her, she just fucking kills Ritsuka because she decides humanity isn't worth salvation anymore
Prillya:
Begging for some Prillya fluff since my partner and I just caught up with the series
Fate/Apocrypha
Smut, I feel we need more bi rep so Sieg gets double teamed my Astolfo and Jeanne. Bonus for strap
Happily asexual Astolfo. Oh sure, they still love making their partners feel good during sex and all that! But that's what they get out of it - making their partners feel good.
FGO
rejoice gudako , for after 5 years of waiting ,you finally have gyaru lancelot!
Yknow how Huang Feihus kids only pop out when he's fighting? What if during one such fight his kids, instead of helping, tell Guda and/or other servants how strong, dependable, and also very very single their dad is
Gender is a game.
A male servant walks in on Artemis bathing. Artemis responds with the customary feminisation spell to whoever saw her naked. Problem is, said Servant was doing a stream on Servant-tube when he accidentally walks in, and the spell effects the viewers of that stream, leading to something like half of Chaldea's male heroes getting sex swapped.
Smut, guro, Xiang Yu and Yu Meiren going at it but Xiang Yu being a horse means its really tearing Meiren apart. Good thing her regen ability means she enjoys it!
the super crown in chaldea , what chaos will ensue?
Unfortunately as part of the single wives club, Galatea is constantly hit on by those who he think she'll be easy. Fortunately, Galatea is ace and instead starts infodumping on shoes, clothing, and how lovely her also ace husband is instead
Asclepius getting fucked in the butt so hard call that Assclapius
Everyone talks about overworking the farming supports. Nobody ever talks about overworking the farming payload. I'd like a thing about the big meta farming servants, like Space Ishtar or Edmond Dantes or Zerkerlot, just being put through the wringer.
Smut, ntr, Netorare where castoria peek as Master has a threesome with Morgan and Tonelico, and can't herself but masturbate while crying desiring to be in their place, even better if Morgan notices it and makes sure to show her how better Master feels when having sex with her.
lets give ritsuka fujimaru a reality marble and see what their inner world looks like
A master summons Mata Hari for the Holy Grail War and decides to ditch the whole thing and run away with her instead. Fluffy or angsty and either oc master or canon one up to the writer
it's the day after the biggest rager Chaldea has thrown so far . gudako wakes up in Izou's bed with a hangover that makes BB look pleasant. after a shower & change of clothes , she & izou stagger to the cafeteria for breakfast. turns out not only did goredolf get past 2nd base with MHXX , their party took place during a grail war in fuyuki city. and in the hectic scramble to flee the cops because they trashed this big-ass mansion , they stole that war's saber class servant and their master.
someone gets Columbus's valentines gift, looks him dead in the eye, and drops it in the trash without breaking eye contact.
oberon: his face when he succ all of Britain
Kadoc starts to get feelings for Ritsuka. The problem is that Kadoc knows that Ritsuka won’t feel the same. He wrong.
Smut, Ibuki getting her tits fucked, a lot. If that's cool.
Smut, incest, Since morgan has appeared servants have been keeping an eye on artoria due to some comments artoria makes from time to time, yet she insists that she will not fuck her sister(again) She ends up fucking her sister, merlin involvement is up to the author
blackbeard of all people has been deemed trustworthy enough to be the guard of gudako's porn stash when there's an inspection.
Smut, Morgan gets Railed by Mash and Habenyan. Thats it that's the prompt.
Smut, i need morgan and oberon to have fucked up insane hatesex. hopefully with copious amount of violence and pain. it's fine if one of them dies btw.
I am in desperate need of Artoria and Mordred sitting down and talking things out, reaching an understanding and just… finally coming to terms with each other. Lord knows the actual game writers wont do it at this point…
On the slight chance it's true: Newly summoned Yoshinaka doesn't understand his wife's new hobby but tries his best to support it
Smut, Tonelico desperately tries to hold the moans back when they fuck but when Mash is on top she edges her to DEATH just to be able to hear her screaming her name
Smut, prompt for og Moriarty throwing out his back and Sherlock having to fix him up but instead of using baritsu Sherlock blows his already blown back back into shape. bonus if it somehow works.
Smut, since it is nerofest, the ultra hard gilgamesh exhibition, but instead of fighting him…. enkidu rails gilgamesh SENSELESS.
Smut, There are still 20 days before the fillathon. You know how Euryale is a great counter to Gawain’s boss fight in Camelot? You know how Bhargest is kinda a useless bisexual? Let’s have Euryale domming the absolute hell out of both “Gawains,” much to the relief of both.
Smut, incest, Arjuna and Karna making love. Holding hands, going nice and gentle, kissing battle scars, gazing longingly into each other's eyes... You get the idea. Let them be happy together.
Hello, this is my first time doing this, but how about Kintoki getting hypnotized by a male master? Especially if a little bit of muscle worship is added? Thanks!
Morgan can't simply show her lily form like a normal person. So she makes all saber faces wear tonelico's clothes and it's her husband's/wife's job to choose the correct one
Feet appreciation but it's Guda tearing up over the fact Sumner Cas got 10 toes
Baobhan's partner thinking that she has a foot fetish and so gets a pedicure/puts effort into their feet care. Which is great but - Baobhan doesn't have a foot fetish, but it's too awkward for her to explain the truth. Bonus if they aren't actually together and the other person is trying to seduce Bao with it
Chaldea enters civil war as the lilys and their adult versions begin fighting(Ex: Jeanne, Gil, Saber, Cu, Medea, Medusa, Archer, Draco, Morgan, Maou Nobu)
Unsanitary, Politely asking for male omorashi content please, I have been starved recently
In the Water Margin club (that totally exists cuz they all wanted it and not because Pretender Lizzy cried until they all relented) the other two members are suprised to hear from Lizzy that Li Kui has been summoned. Suprise turns to confusion, however, as Darius walks in, just as confused and wearing what seems to be a glued on beard
FGO 2
Guda summons Tonelico only to not know who she is as they never actually met, considering her some kind of Castoria clone and treating her as such. Both Castoria and Morgan are highly amused
In addition to her impressive strength Baobhan Sith also has Magic Resistance rank EX, meaning that ordinary magecraft can’t even touch her!
Morgan succeeded in capturing and convincing Castoria to join her, naming her the new Tam Lin Mordred. Unfortunately, they are unable to escape their ultimate fates as Mordred brings down Camelot once again
Smut, Guda is horny and gropes castoria, this would be totally fine, if the one he groped was actually castoria. Cue to an extremely angry Tonelico quickly changing into her Morgan form and punishing her Husband (Explicit, Femdom, Sadistic Morgan)
castoria and oberon and morgan get a good view of how guda is when not in lostbelts or singularites with their fairy eyes after being summoned: horny. so fucking horny. all the time about the weirdest things?? about like every of age servant in chaldea and even some of the staff, particularly goredolf. is this some kind of defense mechanism? dont think about everyone youve either watched die or personally killed think about everyone you love and how much you want to fuck them?
Smut, In the lead up to the last fight with Flauros, Jing Ke and Boudicca say words to the effect of “let’s get drinks after this.” Drunken, glad-to-be-“alive” sex surely ensued.
Smut, Selfcest. Medea Lily angrily tops her older self, who is infuriatingly calm about it.
i feel like mephistopheles and leonardo da vinci would make a sexy mechanical waifu doll out of bombs to prank blackbeard at least once. just some absolutely looney tunes shit.
Erice and Tamamo have some sister talk that ends with Erice trying to kill tama for talking shit about her mom
Any
All of the Saberfaces having a BATTLE TO THE DEATH. Only one Saberface wins, everyone else dies
Reason why there is so much saberfaces: Igraine is a time traveler and is the absent mother or father of all them, she also had sex with the moon once, the result was Arcueid.
something not safe for work, in the sense that it's about characters breaking every OSHA regulation known to god and man.
The Mod of the kinkmeme gets a hug from their favorite Nasuverse servant, whoever that is! (mod note: just use any servant you've got my blessign)
"Whelp, here it is. Dunno why you came all this way for it, though. Totally useless, what with all the holes. 'Course, suppose it wouldn't be the Holey Grail if it didn't have them!... what's with the face?"
Anybody at all, from anything Nasuverse: "YOU'RE TOO LATE, HOMOPHOBES, I'M FORKLIFT CERTIFIED!"

Eileen is a big gal. She takes up over half my suitcase!
I already knew I'd have to take two suitcases cos that's what I always do every time I go to PAX, but...yikes.
Tumblr media
I was also planning on making Templar from XCOM 2 WOTC, and I actually did do a fair amount of work for it. I decided I wouldn't be able to get it done both in time and to my stupid fucking high level of satisfaction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I made the pants and modelled the spine so my friend Andrey could print it. It's actually got an impressive amount of mobility and I'm very proud of it.
The experience was important, because the second costume I'm trying to get ready is...
Morgan Yu!
Tumblr media
I think it's a really neat design, I love warm colours and the general art deco yet uniquely retro vibe of the whole game. It's beautiful yet keeps room for terror.
I've bought some models of the silenced pistol and the margrave shotgun that I'm going to modify to
1) Better resemble the Artemis Golden Gun
2) more easily break apart into two for travel reasons
Tumblr media
I have fully modelled and printed the wrench though!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are some of the finer details, which weren't too difficult to add. Literally just a boolean cut once a text object was turned into a mesh.
And IT FUCKING WORKS!!!!!!!
It took me so long to get the thread working... Turns out what people mean when they say something like printing offset is ACTUALLY micron accuracy. Once you know that it's actually super easy because it's just more boolean bullshit.
Tumblr media
I'm working on the gloves rn using a personal favourite vinyl. It doesn't have any stretch so they'll suck a little, but also they're gloves so fuck em. Only thing I hate more is mitred corners like on those fucking pants god i hate them so much
Posts will continue to be infrequent and whenever I can be arsed to post. I do plan on having a post dedicated to Morgan's helmet tho. It's the most difficult model I've ever worked on. I want it to have fans and lights and an acrylic front with window tint on it so it actually functions like a one-way mirror.
Tumblr media
Reward picture of Luna for reaching the bottom of the post lol

the last of us au
here are my muses’ canon locations in a the last of us universe, set approximately between 2018 and 2050. none of them have a direct connection to the plot of the games and simply exist in the same universe.
a handful of muses do not have a verse (yet) because i am working on more cohesive worldbuilding of the outbreak in other parts of the world. this is an active work in progress, i just want it out of my drafts.
cw for universe-appropriate talks about death, violence, minor body horror, and zombie apocalypses / the end of the world.
this is a very long post.
bae woori lived in one of the last communities to be severely hit by the outbreak. the dry west coast is not conducive for the severe growth of a lot of fungus, but the outbreak did eventually come. woori’s mothers elected to stay in their home when FEDRA came to order evacuations, but they sent 13 year old woori to the san diego QZ on his own, worrying that they couldn’t protect their son. when the QZ fell in 2018, woori left with a group of scavengers that he thought he could trust. when the leader of said group tried to kill him, woori escaped, surviving on his own long enough to get back to la jolla. he found his childhood home still standing, but overgrown, his mothers gone. woori started cleaning up and securing the house, determined to prove everyone wrong and survive on his own while he waits for his parents to return.
samuel nam was on a school trip to the states when the outbreak happened. a short few years later, the los angeles quarantine zone collapsed following a severe drought, and his friend group was on their own- the youngest of them being sixteen years old. they headed south, hoping that they’d find another quarantine zone or a group of survivors willing to take them in, but they found nobody. it took them three days to walk down the coast to san diego, where they found the QZ almost completely abandoned. they took up residence in an empty, uncontaminated apartment block. and they do their best to get by.
jasper waxmen was born into this world. their father, robin, is the head of FEDRA in the manhattan QZ, one of the few that hasn’t completely collapsed, though it feels like they lose a little bit of it every year. jasper is incredibly curious about the outside world and the people living in it. they often clash with robin over the strict limitations placed on the admission of outsiders and sympathizes with the fireflies and their cause.
spencer morgan-kim was 17 years old on outbreak day. after watching his mother get attacked by their infected step father, he loaded his siblings into the car and got out of miami as fast as possible. when they couldn’t drive anymore, they got out and walked.

Among Us and Prey (2017) Crossover: Among Prey
Daily reminder I still love Prey with a burning passion and could not stop myself from writing this crossover. The potential is immense.
Word count: 1544
Summary: At approximately two o’clock in the morning, the cameras observing Morgan’s room glitched, fizzing out before coming back online. Of course, a quick inspection showed that nothing had gone wrong, that it had just been a technical error.
But that did not explain the strange, shadowy blur that had dashed towards Morgan’s bed…
Power outages were a rare occurrence on Talos I. The extensive solar panels, multitude of backup generators, and the constant storing of power in case anything failed. Of course the wiring might occasionally give out here or there in some of the less important sections of the space station, plus there was that one light bulb in the main lobby that just kept flickering, but other than that system failures caused by power outages were rare.
And if they did occur, sabotage was one of the more likely suspects, and had been in the past.
This meant that when the power to the cameras observing Morgan’s room cut out, the cameras themselves glitching and fizzling out, security had immediately been alerted, as had Alex. Fortunately, the power returned a moment later and an inspection done by both security and electrical staff showed that there was no foul play to be suspected, that a technical error had just occurred.
A slim possibility that was the only explanation for the power suddenly going out. Alex had, of course, been less than pleased to hear this, especially since there was no conclusive evidence that a technical failure was the definite cause. The older Yu sibling had huffed and puffed in aggravation, but ultimately concluded that the neuromod tests would continue the next day despite the strange occurrence.
Not before informing Dr. Bellamy to keep a close eye on Morgan during the examination, of course.
However, there had been one piece of information present on the recordings that had been overlooked, assumed to be nothing more than part of the error that had caused the cameras to lose power in the first place.
There had been a dark, indistinguishable smudge that had raced towards Morgan’s bed. It had been visible for less than a second and seemed to just appear before disappearing, which is why the sight of it had been dismissed.
Merely a symptom of the camera becoming fuzzy before fully going out, nothing to be worried about. No Typhon had broken containment, everything was fine.
After all, they only had the Typhon to be concerned with…
Right?
The next day, Dr. Sylvain Bellamy felt… off as he watched Morgan Yu slowly make her way over to the testing chambers. He had felt tense ever since he had first woken up, the scant bit of sleep he got was plagued with nightmares. Images of dark shapes and screaming-
God, he needed a coffee. He had already drunk three cups and the day had barely begun.
And yet, the jittery feeling that had slowly taken over him was not from the excessive amounts of caffeine. Caffeine never made him feel this way, he had gotten used to it a long time ago. This feeling was caused by… something else.
Perhaps it was how tired Morgan looked, her eyes shadowed and face looking strangely blank.
Every single time they had this test, the Yu sister had always been excited and energetic, happy to work with Alex and help wherever she could. There had been a spring in her step, a light in her eyes.
A light that was ominously vacant.
Bellamy sighed and took another sip of his coffee, barely able to steady his hand enough for him to lift his drink. He needed a break, needed a nap.
Needed to finish this test as soon as possible and get away from this place, this feeling.
So, after getting the go ahead from Alex, Bellamy introduced himself and the tests that Morgan was supposed to do. For once, during all the times he had repeated this script to himself and to the Yu sister, he found himself faltering.
His voice was not as smooth nor professional as it always was, he fumbled and stuttered over certain words, occasionally pausing as he struggled to recall what he was supposed to say next. His hands felt sweaty.
He needed another cup of coffee.
He missed the concerned glances sent his way by his fellow researchers and the hushed whispers shared between them. All he could focus on was wrong, wrong, something was wrong, have to run-
As each test progressed, that foreboding feeling in the back of his mind grew stronger. He watched as Morgan listlessly tossed boxes out of the circle, appearing unmotivated during the test, and knit his hands together as he watched her stare at him when she was supposed to be hiding.
Staring with those empty, blank eyes.
Something was wrong, he knew this, he knew something must have gone wrong at some point. He needed to tell Alex.
The second the final test was complete, he would tell Alex.
Bellamy repeated this mantra over and over to himself, using it as that last bit of motivation to get through to the last test-
And, of course, this was when that foreboding feeling manifested into a nightmarish reality.
Room C had proved to have the same results as the prior two tests, Morgan technically completing the required goals but not at all using the neuromod that had been installed. In fact, just before Bellamy had moved to stand in front of the final room, he swore he had seen-
Morgan, drool running down the corner of her mouth as those blank eyes stared at him.
Run, run, run, run-
“Dr. Bellamy, are you alright?” Lucia Jimenez asked, leaning over and whispering to him so the speaker did not pick anything up. He instinctively nodded, feeling all the more disconnected to his surroundings.
“Yes, I just… have something very important I need to mention to Alex later.” He replied.
Run, run, the darkness draws closer-
“You sure?” Marco Simmons added, taking a step towards Bellamy and narrowing his eyes in concern. “You’re pale and sweating. You got a fever or something?”
“He was fine earlier.” Jimenez commented, her worry growing as well. “Should I get a trash can or something?’
“No! No I’m… I’m fine.” Bellamy exclaimed as he lifted his hands up and offered them a shaky smile. “Just… coffee withdrawal, you know.”
Neither of them seemed all that convinced by his explanation, but they did back up and allow him to start up the next, and final, test. Simmons went to go organize some of the data while Jimenez took a seat at the computer, ready to look over the questions and Morgan’s answers. And as for Morgan…
She was, thankfully, seated at the table and seemed to be focusing on the screen in front of her. The sight of her acting so normal was welcome among all the strange behaviours he had seen earlier, but he still needed to talk to Alex. He let out a sigh and picked up his mostly empty coffee mug. What a talk that would be-
Without warning, the lights went out.
Panic immediately broke out among the group as they each struggled to figure out what was going on. The sounds of glass breaking and something heavy striking the ground, making it shake, only intensified their terror.
“No, no!” Bellamy yelped as he stumbled around in the shadows that had overtaken the room, hearing shouting and fighting breaking out around him. What was going on?!
Another step backwards resulted in him tripping over something, falling and landing heavily on his back. His head cracked against the ground and he saw stars.
Bellamy hated space, hated the void that surrounded them and how far they were from everything else, the isolation. His research kept him sane.
As did Morgan, once upon a time.
“F-Fuck!” He spat as he struggled to regain his footing, one of his hands landing on something warm and wet. He slipped once more, leg bumping into whatever he had tripped over.
White in the darkness, a flash of a badge-
Lucia Jimenez’s headless corpse.
Bellamy screamed, he screamed, and screamed, and screamed as he scrambled to back away from the body, the heavy stench of copper permeating the air and making him gag violently. She was dead, dead, dead, dead!
What was going on? What was happening? Why were the lights still out? Where was security?
Footsteps sounded out nearby and, in a moment of hope among despair, Bellamy crawled forwards on his hands and knees as he desperately tried to find the owner of the steps. It had to be Marco, they could make it out of this hell together.
He would live, he would survive.
Please, please, please-
What does it look like, the shape in the glass?
A hand grasped onto a boot and Sylvain Bellamy found himself looking up, staring into the face of death. Morgan loomed out of the darkness above him, skin twitching and seizing before ultimately splitting apart, a maw of teeth and gore cracking and breaking open-
I used to wish we weren’t alone in the universe.
Not-Morgan lunged, body splitting and breaking further as tendrils pierced the suit that had clothed her, it, and Bellamy screamed.
All around Talos I, alarms broke the silence as guards scrambled to gather their weapons. There was an alien among them, something other than the Typhon. Something far different, far deadlier, and as for Not-Morgan…
They want to live inside us, like a disease.
Well, it was among prey, now.
                                        xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I would pay solid money to see which would win in a fight, an Imposter or a Typhon.
I hope you all enjoyed reading!
