The coolest thing ever just happened.
An 18 year old rookie just took a Sprint Pole in Formula 1, as well as set the fastest track time for that circuit.
Why is this so cool? A few reasons:
He's 18 years old.
He is the youngest to take a pole in F1, even if it's a Sprint Pole.
He's a rookie with only a few F1 races under his belt.
He's uniting people.
Almost everyone in my F1 Discord server today, and there were 70 or so of us in there watching together, had something happen to our faves in quali. 90% of us were really sad or upset over results and mishaps, no one was in particularly good spirits.
And then in came this 18 year old kid with stars in his eyes and motor oil in his veins, dashing across the line like it owed him money. And suddenly, at that moment, everyone forgot what it meant to be upset. Everyone came together and cheered, singing praises of a boy who just started his career and is dead set on taking off into the stratosphere as fast as possible. We all huddled close and celebrated the success of someone who is going to undoubtedly grow into an even more incredible driver than he already is. Long forgotten were the woes of our pookies in favor of celebrating a very happy and exciting moment well deserved for all his hard work.
Congratulations Kimi Antonelli!

Always There, Women in Motorsport: Liane Engeman
Liane Engeman, and how close the Netherlands came to their first Female Formula 1 driver
Read on Wordpress or click on Keep Reading to read on Tumblr
As we approach this year's running of the 12 Hours of Sebring. – A race that has been around for almost 75 years, with the 12 hours first run in 1952. The race has been held each year since, with a single exception; in 1974 it was cancelled due to the energy crisis – I'm putting the spotlight on one of many drivers to have competed in the race, Liane Engeman.
Engeman, a Dutch driver born on March 24th 1944, competed in the 12H of Sebring three times with the Ring Free Ladies’ "Motor Maids" team. All during the latter half of the 1960s together with Janet Guthrie. In 1969 Donna Mae Mims joined the female duo.

Their adventures at the 12H of Sebring saw a highlight in 1967 when they finished 23rd overall and won their class. In 1969 they would once again finish 23rd and sixth in their class.
In 1968 they encountered troubles and had to retire. But they were also blamed for a crash by driver Paul Hawkins – famous for being only one of two drivers to crash into the Monaco Harbor.
He blamed Engeman for a crash and went on a sexist tirade, saying women did not belong anywhere near a race track. In said crash however, their car wasn't even involved. Hawkins made contact with a completely different car. It became a huge controversy, leading to a Swiss Porsche team defending Engeman – with proof in pictures – showing she never was at the scene of the accident.
Liane Engeman started in cars from a young age. At just 15, she worked for her father's taxi service driving a frequent customer in one of the company cars. She found her way into motorsports at age 16, when she met Dutch racer Rob Slotemaker at a bus stop. He offered her a ride to Zandvoort and eventually enrolled her into his driving school.
Tumblr media

She borrowed cars left and right, taking to the track whenever she could. And in 1965 she would win her first race in Formula Vee. Eventually she was encouraged to move to London and worked as a housemaid for a family. Every week she would borrow a Cooper to race on tracks around the UK. She would eventually meet someone at one of these tracks that owned a Cooper, when he found out she was four seconds a lap quicker than him in the car, he allowed her to compete in it. During that time she held the lap record at Thruxton for a solid 6 months, it was then beaten by Emerson Fittipaldi.
Later on she would become an assistant to the manager at Alan Mann Racing (a Ford works team), she managed hotel stays, recorded lap times and alerted when cars had to come in for fuel, but she didn’t do what she really wanted; race. She did her job well however, and was even offered a job at Ferrari, but ultimately had to decline as she suffered from a spinal inflammation at the time.
She took a job at a traveling agency to continue financing her career. And continued to compete all over Europe in several championships. Both in open-wheel and touring cars. In 1969 she had a major crash in Brazil where her steering wheel stopped working, causing her to drive into the marsh. She only narrowly managed to crawl out of the wreckage, before she drowned.

In that same year she competed in the 24 Hours of Spa, taking 13th place overall with teammate Bob Wollek and winning their class. The following year she would also compete at the 24H of Spa, together with Belgian driver Christine Beckers. Mid-race however, Beckers was given the news that her boyfriend had died in a crash during that same race. They continued in the race, but ultimately retired with engine issues.
Throughout her relatively short career she showed flashes of brilliance several times. Taking podiums and class wins throughout the years. Some say, several disagreements with teams causing walkouts could’ve prevented her from making big strides in her professional career.
She did however come close to a Formula 1 contract around 1972, she was in talks with Lotus and BRM for a Formula 1 seat but had to decline as she found herself pregnant with twins. She quit racing and would return just once a few years later, but ultimately stepped away completely.
To finance her career, she played in several commercials, one alongside Beth Morris, and she was a stand-in for Ursula Andress in the James Bond-film Casino Royal.

This weekend 5 female drivers compete at the 12H of Sebring among those one all-female team as the Iron Dames will compete with their #83 in the GTD class with Sarah Bovy, Michelle Gatting & Rahel Frey. Lilou Wadoux will be in the #21 and Sheena Monk will be driving the #021, both also in the GTD Class.

"I'm already a failure. I can't even make Japan proud...." When the World Grand Prix came around and Shu Todoroki was invited to compete in it, he trained extra hard for the competition in anticipation for what's to come in the circuits. During the first race of the WGP, Shu's confidence was 100%. He felt ready to take on the race, he was ready to dominate the competition. But it proved to not play out in his favor. He got fourth place, even if he pushed his Le Motor Prototype's engine to its limit and put his car at its maximum speed. It wasn't enough, and he was surpassed by Carla Veloso. The second race in Porto Corsa, he was feeling down. The thoughts of him being a failure and failing to take the win for Japan was already weighing him down, and made him feel depressed. His self esteem was breaking down, and the pressure to be perfect and to be a winner was already becoming too much for him.
On the last lap, when he was in third position, his confidence was starting to build back up. Maybe he did have a chance in winning the second race of the WGP after all. He just had to time this carefully, overtake Francesco and McQueen, and he was golden. But his car's engine exploded. Four other cars crashed into his own, with their respective drivers inside. Knocked unconscious, they were all sent to the hospital, the last race in London postponed for a few extra days to allow the injured racers to recover in the nearest hospital. When Shu came to, he felt immense guilt for being unable to stop his car in time and allowing his fellow competitors/friends to get hurt because of him. He knew deep down he shouldn't feel this way, the accident way beyond his control, but he couldn't help it. In London, he and the other racers weren't even able to finish the last race, due to the spies being involved and Miles Axelrod using the competition as a cover-up for something bigger. He felt used, manipulated, but worse of all, he felt like a failure for not being able to make Japan proud. He didn't know how long it'll be before he reaches his breaking point...

2026 Rewind - Grid x AudiDriver! Reader
Plot: After some devastating deaths within the F1 industry from unmistakable names in 2025, the FIA decide to make a plan to race at all of the old tracks that are iconic but haven’t been on the grid for a while.
A/N: this is racing heavy with only drivers name dropped, but if you want cool Ted and Crofty with Y/N vibes while learning more about some of the FIA Grade 1 Tracks, have a read!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“So Ted, let’s talk about this years line up. It’s just so iconic that I can’t bear it!” David Croft says as they are in the commentator box at pre-season testing.
“Yeah Crofty, obviously it’s so unfortunate the reason behind what we are calling the 2026 rewind because of some losses we had in the industry and this was the way the FIA decided to pay tribute to those people!" Ted explains before the onscreen for the year comes up.
"So, lets go through the year together and analyze it. We're starting of the season strong in the lovely Kuwait, here at Kuwait Motor Town, this is where we are kick starting off this season. It's a high speed track here just north of where we would typically start in Bahrain. This is a track consisting of 20 turns, and is 5.609km of racing ahead. I'm very excited as no-one in F1 history has raced here in an F1 car. Who do you think's going to do well here Ted?"
"Well, there's some really nice corners, and it's a similar temp to Bahrain so i think it's difficult to tell but I can imagine the Audi with Y/N now having done her rookie season learning all those key values about the F1 car and how it works. McLaren will also be good here, really tightening up the constructors championship this year!" Ted offers looking at all the onboard footage.
"Yes I agree, I think Red Bull tend to be quiet strong a the start of the year naturally and its a game for the other teams to be playing catch up!" Crofty agrees.
"Okay, then after Kuwait, we'll be travelling to and correct me if I'm saying this wrong but the Kyalami Circuit in South Africa near the wonderful capital Johannesburg. It's in replacement of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, we haven't raced in South Africa since 1993 and what a beautiful circuit this is, its got some really high speed corners and yeah, I think the Ferrari will really be great on those long straights." Ted says analysis the data of the cars in testing.
"And now here we have with us, Y/N Y/L/N Audi F1 driver here to talk through the rest of the tracks!" David says and points to the camera for you to smile and wave before he pulls out the microphone in front of you.
"Hello!" you grin and David and Ted both burst out laughing.
"What did I miss, I'm really sorry i was late!" you smile looking between them and they both nod in understanding of how tight the weekend schedule could be, they are shocked they actually have your time right now.
"It's completely okay, we understand! We've only introduced Kuwait and South Africa, we are about to move onto the changed Australia track! Your thoughts?" he exclaims and you smile.
"Yeah, obviously it's going to be exciting with all these new tracks that none of us have driven, so of course there was a lot of testing in the sims... but yeah its great to be here in Kuwait, and I'm excited to go to South Africa as well!" you smile.
"Yes, and how do you feel about Australia being changed from Albert Park in Melbourne to the Adelaide Street Circuit?" Ted asks with a grin on his face knowing how you felt about the Australian races.
"Well, after the spider incident in 2022, I've always been so scared to drive in Australia" you giggle, before Crofty pulls up the video of you in P4 of the Australian Grand Prix in 2022.
Y/N - Theres a fucking tarantula in my car Race Engineer - Copy that Y/N - No i dont think you guys get it, its on me
"And you ended up pitting there was no time to get it out of the car because of where it was, you were crying for the rest of the race and you were going so quick so you could just finish that you actually ended up winning your first race here and overtaking Charles Leclerc in, what back then was an Alfa Romeo." Crofty smiles and you nod.
"Yeah, so where ever that race is in Australia I know ill be on edge the whole time, I'll have my crew do like 6 inspections on my car before each session to make sure. It was traumatizing i tell you!" you admit.
"So after what will hopefully be a spider free stint in Adelaide on their street circuit we move on to south east Asia where we will exchange Suzuka Japan, for the Fuji SpeedWay, a truly iconic track before going back to an old favorite of some of the older driver on the grid like Lewis and Fernando in South Korea at the Korea International Circuit!" Ted says showing the line up for the races after Australia.
"I'm really excited for these, the atmosphere of the fans is always amazing and the tracks here are great I think Audi thrive on these sort of tracks and yeah, I'm excited to see what we can do there!" you smile, looking at the spinning track layout that popped up on screen.
You move on to Miami's replacement being the iconic Californian Long Beach Street Circuit.
"And we've been tipped of, by a certain Cash App driver that he'll be taking you to DisneyLand while out there?" he asks looking at you.
"Yes, Liam has already been once and when I said about wanting to go to radiator springs he and Daniel jumped on the opportunity to go, which then Yuki and Max wanted to come so it's now turned into this whole massive group trip!" you laugh knowing that half the grid would come with you guys.
"And of course much like the UK Italy is another pinnacle of Motorsport and we've had to change out two of the iconic track Monza and Imola. So for the first change of Italy we've changed it to the iconic Mugello track which I just really love, don't you Y/N?" Ted asks looking at you.
"Yeah I think Lando and Osc will be really strong there, I'd like to think me and Carlos are as well with the Audi this year... so yeah I'm excited for Mugello! Obviously they raced here in 2020 so it's the most recent of all the races this year to make a return so its only really me, Oscar, Logan, Fred, Theo and Kimi who haven't raced there" you smile analyzing the twisty track up on the screen.
"Yes, then we'll be moving onto, what was probably one of the toughest decisions of this year which was switching out Monaco and what to switch out such an exciting race with, so they didn't its the only race on the calendar this year that has remained unchanged!" David explains making you nod.
"I think, where this year is to show the history of F1 and what it means to all of us, the teams and the fans. And by keeping Monaco on there where its such a historic track, i think that's actually staying true to a rewind year!" you smile, you'd always loved the vibes in Monaco, from the fans to the track to how your car performed there.
"Yeah i agree i think it was the right choice keeping Monaco!" Ted exclaims also loving the vibes at Monaco.
"Okay, then moving all the way to the west, we'll be in Canada moving from Montreal over to Quebec at the second oldest track, the Mont-Tremblant Circuit!" David shows the new Canadian circuit on screen.
"Then after Canada we've got a really special double header with two Spanish Grand Prix's at different locations. We have the Valencia Street Circuit and Del Jarama Circuit. Both very exciting and it will be a long weekend in Spain!"
"I'm excited to see a street circuit in Spain, obviously we had Madrid for the last two years after Barcelona, so I'm excited for both Valencia as a street circuit and Jarama which is such an iconic track because of those tights turns and yeah I'm really excited for this one!" you smile.
"Obviously next one was another tough one, Silverstone again another iconic track and the UK has so many other iconic tracks that its hard to choose, there was talks of Aintree, Watkins Glen and Donington Park but ultimately they went with Brands Hatch what do you think on this?" Ted asks looking over to you, holding up a page showing all the different UK tracks.
"Yeah, I think there's some really iconic tracks in the UK, its my home so i grew up racing on a lot of those tracks in different motorsport categories, I think there's ones that are arguably better for Formula one, which is why Silverstone is the main circuit as it gives for the most interesting race, however for me it would have been a call between Brands Hatch and Watkins Glen so I'm glad that they chose Brands Hatch, I've got some great memories there at testing and showcasing the car or working with the Top Gear team, so I'm excited to race there!" you explain, the United Kingdom is the like Monaco in being both a founder and royalty when it comes to Motorsport.
"I 100% agree with that, however I just love Aintree so much and am gutted we wont see it!" David Croft admits.
"So after Brands Hatch we move to Monsanta in Portugal which we haven't raced in Portugal since 2021 because of the COVID restrictions but that was in Algarve so it'll be interesting to see the difference!" Ted offers looking at the next circuit floating on their screen as he zoom's in on turn 4.
"Then, again there another track we hate to see go even if its for one year but Spa, its so iconic and its one of the most dangerous circuits we race now and it's being swapped out for Circuit Zolder on the other side of Belgium! Thoughts?" David asks out in the open.
"I" you start.
"Well I think" Ted also starts and you both look at each other in shock before laughing. You let Ted go first to say his piece.
"Well, I think it's no where near interesting as Spa, and especially where its the last race before a break... I think it's going to be way more uneventful than Spa!"
"Y/N?" Crofty asks looking at you.
"I actually think the opposite most of the tracks have been very high risk with lost of turns and chicanes and hairpins that really catch you out, however this reminds me of the simplicity of Monza and everyone, everyone loves Monza. So i think it will really even out the mid field cars" you says observing the track that had nice long straights and minimal turns.
"I agree with you there Y/N! Next after Zolder we head over to the heavily missed Nurburgring in Germany, the last time we saw it was 2019 so again, up until our 2019 rookies would have driven there how'd you feel about this track Y/N?" David asks.
"Well, it's such an iconic track for so many reasons I really wanted to race there after I watched Lando, George and Alex all race there in 2019, I was actually there in the paddock that year with Ferrari as a part of their driver development programme" you nod, explaining to them how excited you were for it.
"Now next in the place of Monza which we just mentioned we have a complete wild card of the Scandinavian Raceway in Sweden! Now this, this is one I'm excited for it's a beautiful track and has the coldest track temps we'll probably get all season! So it'll be a real fight to see who can protect their tyres and manage them well!" Ted explains and you nod, knowing it would be an exciting race.
"Then after that we travel to France where we haven't been for a while, however the Bugatti Au Mans Track in France is iconic, there are so many great tracks in France like Paul-Ricard or the Charade Circuit or Dijon de Prenois, all of them are great but the Bugatti hasn't been done is so long and really means a lot historically to the sport" David offers, showing you one of the only tracks you didn't feel too excited a lean towards.
"Then, we move back across to Aisa, going to an age of favorite of the age old Sepang International Circuit in Malasiya which is one fans have been wanting to see back on the race calendar for a while so i wonder if this will stay into 2027!" Ted takes over, and you nod.
"I'm also very excited for Sepang! After Malaysia we move onto the first ever FIA grade 1 race track the Chang Circuit in Thailand, how to we feel about this?" David asks directly looking at you.
"Not only is it a beautiful track, but it means that Alex now has a chance to race at his home track while racing under his home flag and I think he's really excited for it. He's in a great car, the Williams has come leaps and bounds and are top midfield contenders and definitely will be up there fighting for race wins!" you smile, knowing Alex was so happy to have this opportunity to race in his home country.
"I agree Alex Albon to win in Chang Circuit, I've put my money on it! Our next circuit it one that NASCAR share with us in F1 taking it back to the Indianapolis Speedway, on the lower F1 circuit of course rather than the Oval that the NASCAR drivers use!" Ted explains.
"Yeah, that lower track is great, you got the nice curve and we'll be able to get to those really high speeds. It's an iconic US track just like COTA!" you admit, taking a sip of the water you'd brought with you.
"After Indi, we'll make our way a little further down south to the Rio de Janiro International Track in Brazil, which is instead of Sao Paulo" David explains looking at the second F1 track in Brazil, it was a nice track but Sao Paulo had been on the roster for so long.
"Then, we are back in Las Vegas, but not on the Strp track that was created in 2023, no we are going back to the Ceaser's Palace Track and I know many people complain about these Las Vegas Grand Prix's because of the timings and the drivers not really liking driving at 12pm!"
"Yeah, i agree they are really strenuous just like Qatar for the heat but I love the vibe Las Vegas brings and I like the whole weekend with all the activities in the fan zone and yeah I'm excited they used Ceaser's Palace rather than the Pheonix Street Circuit which i know they were considering.
"I agree. Our last two races, then consist of the Buddah International Circuit in India and rounding off instead of in Yas Marina in the Dubai Autodrome, which will be a really nice round off" David exclaims.
Slowly you end the interview up, needing to go down to the track to get into the car for you leg of pre-season testing.
What a year it would be.

1938 Mercedes-Benz W154
In September 1936, the AIACR (Association Internationale des Automobile Clubs Reconnus), the governing body of motor racing, set the new Grand Prix regulations effective from 1938. Key stipulations included a maximum engine displacement of three liters for supercharged engines and 4.5 liters for naturally aspirated engines, with a minimum car weight ranging from 400 to 850 kilograms, depending on engine size.
By the end of the 1937 season, Mercedes-Benz engineers were already hard at work developing the new W154, exploring various ideas, including a naturally aspirated engine with a W24 configuration, a rear-mounted engine, direct fuel injection, and fully streamlined bodies. Ultimately, due to heat management considerations, they opted for an in-house developed 60-degree V12 engine designed by Albert Heess. This engine mirrored the displacement characteristics of the 1924 supercharged two-liter M 2 L 8 engine, with each of its 12 cylinders displacing 250 cc. Using glycol as a coolant allowed temperatures to reach up to 125°C. The engine featured four overhead camshafts operating 48 valves via forked rocker arms, with three cylinders combined under welded coolant jackets, and non-removable heads. It had a high-capacity lubrication system, circulating 100 liters of oil per minute, and initially utilized two single-stage superchargers, later replaced by a more efficient two-stage supercharger in 1939.
The first prototype engine ran on the test bench in January 1938, and by February 7, it had achieved a nearly trouble-free test run, producing 427 hp (314 kW) at 8,000 rpm. During the first half of the season, drivers such as Caracciola, Lang, von Brauchitsch, and Seaman had access to 430 hp (316 kW), which later increased to over 468 hp (344 kW). At the Reims circuit, Hermann Lang's W154 was equipped with the most powerful version, delivering 474 hp (349 kW) and reaching 283 km/h (176 mph) on the straights. Notably, the W154 was the first Mercedes-Benz racing car to feature a five-speed gearbox.
Max Wagner, tasked with designing the suspension, had an easier job than his counterparts working on the engine. He retained much of the advanced chassis architecture from the previous year's W125 but enhanced the torsional rigidity of the frame by 30 percent. The V12 engine was mounted low and at an angle, with the carburetor air intakes extending through the expanded radiator grille.
The driver sat to the right of the propeller shaft, and the W154's sleek body sat close to the ground, lower than the tops of its tires. This design gave the car a dynamic appearance and a low center of gravity. Both Manfred von Brauchitsch and Richard Seaman, whose technical insights were highly valued by Chief Engineer Rudolf Uhlenhaut, praised the car's excellent handling.
The W154 became the most successful Silver Arrow of its era. Rudolf Caracciola secured the 1938 European Championship title (as the World Championship did not yet exist), and the W154 won three of the four Grand Prix races that counted towards the championship.
To ensure proper weight distribution, a saddle tank was installed above the driver's legs. In 1939, the addition of a two-stage supercharger boosted the V12 engine, now named the M163, to 483 hp (355 kW) at 7,800 rpm. Despite the AIACR's efforts to curb the speed of Grand Prix cars, the new three-liter formula cars matched the lap times of the 1937 750-kg formula cars, demonstrating that their attempt was largely unsuccessful. Over the winter of 1938-39, the W154 saw several refinements, including a higher cowl line around the cockpit for improved driver safety and a small, streamlined instrument panel mounted to the saddle tank. As per Uhlenhaut’s philosophy, only essential information was displayed, centered around a large tachometer flanked by water and oil temperature gauges, ensuring the driver wasn't overwhelmed by unnecessary data.

Can you explain the MGU-K/H thing pls,,,, I'm sorry I know there's other places I can look this up but everything they say goes over my head for some reason 😭😭😭
the three major components powering the current generation of f1 cars is:
the v6 internal combustion engine (ice)
the motor generator unit-kinetic (mgu-k)
the motor generator unit-heat (mgu-h)
the ice converts chemical energy (aka fuel) into kinetic energy to power the car, and indirectly powers the mgu-h through its exhaust gases. ices are used for many things in the world, not just f1 cars or road vehicles. the mgu-k is connected to the crankshaft and harvests energy from the car's (rear) braking for the "battery" (es); it can can then deploy that energy during acceleration. the mgu-h harvests energy from the spinning turbo (aka the exhaust gases released by the ice) which can then either be sent to the battery or mgu-k directly, or used to keep the turbo spinning and give the engine an instant boost during moments where the ice would lag.
the main point of contention for the 2026 regs is the disappearance of the mgu-h and the heightened importance of the mgu-k. the mgu-h is not commonly used in road cars, is expensive to make, and is very complex compared to the better-understood ice and mgu-k units. in order to entice new manufacturers to join and lower the costs and knowledge requirements to join the series, f1 scrapped the mgu-h entirely and will instead redistribute power between only the ice and mgu-k. naturally, the mgu-k will be carrying a much larger role in powering the car than it does currently. the most obvious issue with this is that the mgu-k has limited opportunities to harvest energy, meaning it may struggle to reach its maximum capacity, especially on tracks where there are long straights and little braking. this is part of a very much ongoing discussion about how they should split the power.
as a whole, the 2026 regulations impose more limitations on the cars, there are less parts to play with, and many of the parts which exist have been made less complex; to me, it feels like a step back for racing as we're losing innovative parts of the sport in order to cater to road car manufacturers and street circuits. but i digress, the teams and drivers clearly have wildly different opinions not only from me but also from each other. some teams are very vocal about not liking them, others are defending them, others are ambivalent, and the drivers are universally unenthused... there's a reason why they haven't come to a firm consensus yet.
merc's website and youtube channels are very good for explaining the basics of stuff like this. they have articles for pretty much everything and so... soooo many videos lmao. ofc there is an inherent "we are the best and most innovative team" bias present, but out of all the teams they are definitely the most approachable for this sort of learning.

pairing: jenson button x fempopstar!reader, brief mark webber appearance
content warning(s): swearing, mentions of drinking, use of y/n, inaccurate information about the monaco paddock/circuit, suggestive champagne drinking(?)
word count: 1,771
note: first of all, thank you for all the notes on my lewis fic i'm absolutely blown away 😭🫶🏻 secondly, first fic featuring mr. playboy himself! i hope you enjoy this one bcos i had so much fun writing it 🩷
(masterlist!)
you gawked at the herds of people waiting for your arrival at the entrance of the paddock from behind your sunglasses. even after years of being in the limelight, you still weren't used to all the attention.
somehow, news had leaked that you would be attending the monaco grand prix this year, which meant that you had to cover yourself in team gear (that your manager had fortunately brought to your hotel room the night before) from head to toe and walk in with the other team members rather than make a glamorous entrance in a far too revealing outfit like you usually did.
not that you were complaining. your manager would have your head if you caused any more chaos especially after your recent stunt during some after party which involved a bit too much drinking and dancing for the public's liking. apparently people didn't think three awards was something to celebrate with several rounds of shots.
"over there!"
shit.
despite your best efforts to remain incognito, it seemed you were identifiable even while wearing the slightly grim team uniform you wouldn't be caught dead in if it were under normal circumstances.
in a split second decision you made a run for it, hoping to evade any and all slightly deranged fans who might cause mayhem if they managed to reach you. stifling a giggle, you sprinted down the road without sparing a single thought about how odd it looked to everyone else around. you were suddenly grateful for the fact that you were wearing attire suitable for an unexpected, albeit thrilling, getaway.
yep. your manager is definitely going to give you an earful when you get back.
after what felt like an eternity of running, you ducked in between two motor homes to try and catch your breath while also staying hidden. you were so preoccupied with your own endeavours that you hadn't noticed the two men who were once engaged in their own conversation, now ogling at you.
just your luck. were they fans too? god, when were you going to catch a break?
"sorry, i can't sign anything or take any pictures right now. thanks for your support though." you muttered, finally managing to get out your pr approved message while leaning against the wall.
you promptly figured out that you had obviously said something wrong by the sight of a growing smile on the slightly shorter, blond man. looking closer at his chest, you recognised the same brawn gp logo that you were currently wearing stitched onto his racesuit.
fuck.
you looked to the dark haired man on his right who still looked confused at your random appearance. as you moved your gaze down from his face, you then noticed the red bull racing logo on his racesuit.
double fuck. but of course it was your luck to run into the drivers and embarrass yourself!
"shit. ok, wait, hang on. sorry about that. i'm not actually like that, i swear. i'm just trying not to make my manager any angrier at me than she already is." you managed to huff out.
"no worries, take your time."
thankfully, the blond man could see that you were still desperately trying to get air in your lungs and graciously gave you time to recover.
"erm, sorry, can we start over? i'm y/n l/n, nice to meet you."
you moved forward to shake both of their hands.
"jenson button, it's a pleasure. although i feel like i've already met you the amount of times you've been in the headlines."
you almost lost all your breath again as he maintained perfect eye contact while shaking your hand. you grimaced at the reminder of the mischief that you had been known for since the beginning of your career.
is this the regret that your manager was talking about during one of her lectures?
"mark webber, nice to meet you too. so, what was that all about?"
the brunet man, mark as you had just learnt, finally snapped out of his daze as he lightly shook your hand.
"oh, that? it's not a big deal, just some fans who wanted to meet me. i mean i appreciate them and i'm sure they have good intentions but it's a little scary to have a horde of people chasing you. you understand, right?"
jenson's shit-eating grin grew impossibly bigger and it was starting to get on your nerves. and this intense staring contest he had initiated didn't help.
what was his problem?
"yeah, i guess? something tells me you get recognised a lot more often than we do."
you nodded at mark's response without even giving him as much as a glance. if it weren't for the fact that you refused to lose the unofficial staring contest, you might have felt bad for practically ignoring him.
mark looked between you two and made the sensible decision to not get involved in whatever the hell was going on.
"uh, i'm gonna go get ready. see you out there, mate."
"yeah sure, see you later."
and just like that, you were alone with jenson.
"so, what's the world's biggest pop star doing at a formula 1 race?"
your face warmed at the compliment from the man who was becoming more and more attractive as time went on.
"thanks. my friend was meant to be here but something came up and she gave me her pass. i don't know anything about racing but i've heard the after parties are good. is that right?"
"good? they're better than good. they're the best parties in the world."
you raised an eyebrow at his declaration. you had been to more after parties than you could care to remember and you heavily doubted that they could be topped. sensing your uncertainty, jenson made an offer.
"tell you what. if i win the race today, you have to let me take you out to celebrate. i'll even let you watch the race from my garage."
he was on pole position and it was almost impossible to overtake at monaco. but you didn't have to know that.
you did need somewhere safe to watch from. and who knows? maybe celebrating with him could be fun.
"and what if you don't win?"
"don't worry about that, sweetheart. i'll win it just for you." he replied shooting you a wink.
jesus, was he trying to make you pass out?
"well if you're so confident then sure."
"great. let me take you to our garage. don't worry, your fans won't be able to get in there. although i can't promise that some of the team won't ask you for pictures."
"as long as they don't try and trample me i think i'll be fine!"
laughing along with him to the garage, both of you failed to notice the cameras pointed at you, broadcasting your interaction to live television.
almost two hours had passed by now and you were anxiously waiting for jenson to cross the line in first place. you didn't think watching race cars go round in circles could ever be so exciting but your mind had been undoubtedly changed after today. jenson had just begun his final lap around the prestigious circuit when the mechanics started leaving the garage. through all the emotion no one had bothered to tell you what was happening so you just rushed outside with them.
eventually you managed to push your way to the front of the crowd and rested against the wall facing the number boards waiting for the top 3 drivers arrival.
"where's jenson?" you turned to the mechanic on your right after the second and third drivers, who you found out were rubens barrichello and kimi räikkönen, parked their cars behind their respective number boards while jenson was nowhere to be found.
you soon got your answer once you saw him round the corner on foot.
"looks like he got lost!" joked the same mechanic on your right.
you shook your head and chuckled at the absurdity of a professional racing driver getting lost at a track he's driven at several times before. in the end he managed to get to the podium to raise his trophy and celebrate with his teammate.
a serene smile fell on his face as the british national anthem played for him for the fifth time that season. slowly but surely his claim to the 2009 title was becoming stronger and stronger.
as his eyes fell on his team he picked out your face in the sea of people. acting solely on impulse, he blew a kiss towards you ultimately causing an echo of wolf whistles. you made a motion as if to catch the kiss and slip it into the pocket of your jeans, saving it for later.
it would just be rude to leave the man hanging after he had let you stay in his garage. it definitely was not because he was charming your socks off.
shortly after the podium ceremony, he made his way towards the wall you were stood against. joining in with everyone else, you applauded him as he walked up. you let him celebrate with the people who had made the win possible before he finally reached you.
"congratulations, jense! you were incredible!"
"thank you, darling! would you like to try some of this champagne? might not be as good as some of the stuff you've had but i like to think victory makes it taste sweeter."
you smirked at the thought.
"if you insist." came your reply before you tilted your head back and opened your mouth to let him pour the champagne in.
for the first time since you had met him, he was speechless. snapping out of it, he poured the champagne into your mouth and the cheers seemed to become deafening. you tapped his chest to signal him to stop and wiped your mouth with your sleeve.
"you were right. victory does make it sweeter."
you mirrored the grin on his face as the celebrations almost faded away into the background. you two must have had the same thought in that moment because before you knew it, you were kissing each other as if there weren't dozens of cameras being shoved in your faces.
once again, you were breathless as you pulled away.
"i know i owe you a proper celebration, but how about dinner? just us two?"
your cheeks were starting to hurt from the permanent grin on your face now.
"sounds like a proper celebration to me."
your manager was definitely going to kill you now. but you couldn't care less; you had a dinner date with jenson button.

DeSantis faces pushback in Florida as voters tire of war on woke
Tumblr media
It's about time that Florida citizens started to push back against DeSantis's far-right "anti-woke" agenda.
The bill banning rainbow flags from public buildings in Florida sounded like a sure bet. State Rep. David Borrero (R), the legislation’s sponsor, argued that it was needed to prevent schoolchildren from being “subliminally indoctrinated.” That rationale echoed other measures championed by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) as part of his “war on woke.” But instead of sailing through the Republican-dominated legislature, the DeSantis-backed bill died a quick legislative death, making it only as far as one subcommittee. It wasn’t the only culture war proposal from conservative lawmakers to end up in the bill graveyard during the session that ended Friday. One rejected bill would have banned the removal of Confederate monuments. Another would have required transgender people to use their sex assigned at birth on driver's licenses — something the state Department of Motor Vehicles is already mandating. A third proposed forbidding local and state government officials from using transgender people’s pronouns. Some of those ideas have come up in the past and may surface again next year. But the fact that the bills failed, even with public support from DeSantis, marks a change from the days when the GOP supermajority in Tallahassee passed nearly everything the governor asked for. [...] But the pushback is growing. Parents and others have organized and protested schoolbook bans. Abortion rights advocates gathered enough signatures to put the issue on the ballot in Florida in November. A bill that would have established “fetal personhood” stalled before it could reach a full vote. Judges are also canceling some of DeSantis’s marquee laws, including the “Stop Woke Act.” A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit ruled Monday that the law “exceeds the bounds” of the Constitution’s First Amendment right to freedom of speech and expression.

Post 1378
Justice is not always blind, in particular when you know people who know people in high places.
In what could be described as a silent protest, the traffic homicide prosecutor who handled the case up until its conclusion, refused to attend the proceeding.
Noah Thomas Galle, Florida inmate J72607, born 2004, incarceration intake February 2025 at age 20, scheduled to be released May 2037
Homicide-Negligent Manslaughter with a Motor Vehicle
Prior to his accident in January 2022 that killed six people, Noah Galle would post TikTok videos of himself barreling down the highway at break-neck speed, promising $25 to anyone who could guess how fast he drove. In January 2025, a judge ordered him to share another video with the story of the night he drove his BMW at 150 mph into the back of an SUV, killing all six people inside.
The court-ordered video clip is part of a larger plea deal negotiated between Galle, the son of prominent Wellington attorney Craig Galle, and Chief Assistant State Attorney Al Johnson. In exchange for Galle's guilty plea, Johnson, on behalf of the state, offered a 12-year sentence, a fraction of the 55-year minimum sentence he faced for causing one of Palm Beach County's deadliest wrecks.
The matter had lingered through a number of court actions for more than three years.
Galle, 20 at the time of sentencing, accepted that plea deal. Flanked by his team of high-powered attorneys and accompanied by his family to court, Galle prepared a statement of remorse but did not read it himself. He asked defense attorney Liz Parker, who at one time had worked for the state as a traffic homicide prosecutor, do so instead.
Circuit Judge Sherri Collins, was the only judge who agreed to oversee the hearing, and sentenced him accordingly. When asked why the resolution came together so quickly, the State's Attorney Johnson answered plainly.
"The new administration when the new District Attorney, elected in November, begins her new work tomorrow," he told the judge. The new DA, Alexcia Cox took the oath of office as the county's new state attorney the following day. Johnson added later, outside of the courthouse: "This plea agreement was implemented under the out-going BA, Dave Aronberg and his administration. I’m not going to comment past that, because it’s not really appropriate."
According to court records, Galle liked to record videos of himself speeding down local roads and Interstate 95 in the BMW M5 for which he paid more than $100,000 in cash. Galle's arrest report does not indicate whether he was recording on Jan. 27, 2022, the night of the crash on State Road 7 west of Delray Beach.
Investigators with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said he reached a speed of 151 mph moments before he rear-ended a Nissan Rogue SUV traveling at a quarter of his speed.
The crash killed the Nissan’s driver, Mirlane Julceus, 45, of West Palm Beach as well as her passengers: Michel Louis Saint, 77, of Lake Worth Beach; Marie Michelle Louis, 60, of Wellington; Remzie Michel, 53, of Palm Springs; Filaine Dieu, 46, of Lake Worth Beach and Vanice Percina, 29, of West Palm Beach.
All were leaving work from Pero Family Farms on State Road 7 near Atlantic Avenue at the time of the 11 p.m. wreck.
Neither the victims' relatives nor Storm Tropea, the traffic homicide prosecutor who handled the case up until its conclusion, attended the plea conference. A different deputy DA was assigned to represent the state in court.
In a memorandum explaining why Galle deserved a fraction of the 55-year minimum sentence he faced, defense attorneys Parker and Doug Duncan pointed to Galle's remorse, his efforts to fund-raise for the victims' families, and several "significant undiagnosed medical conditions" they blame for the crash.
Johnson said he told the victims' next of kin about the resolution and received mixed reactions to it. One was "devastated" but didn't object, he said. One wished the state hadn't prosecuted the young man at all. Others felt the sentence was just.
Galle must also complete 800 hours of community service, complete a 12-hour driving course and attend a panel where crash victims share their stories about how their injuries affected their lives.
The Judge also revoked Galle's driver's license for three years.
In an extraordinary action, even though now formally convicted the Judge permitted Galle to remain out of custody for an additional three weeks before reporting to prison.
Editorials in the local media were scathing in their criticism of the lightness of the sentence.

1969 Holden Hurricane Concept
Holden has gone back to the future, restoring its very first concept car - the 1969 Holden Hurricane Concept.
The futuristic research vehicle described as an experiment "to study design trend, propulsion systems and other long range developments" has been restored to its former glory as a labour of love by a dedicated group of Holden designers and engineers.
Code named RD 001; the Holden Hurricane is a mid-engined, rear-wheel drive, two-seater sports car which incorporates a remarkable array of innovative features and technology, much of it way ahead of its time.
Features such as electronic digital instrument displays, station-seeking radio, automatic temperature control air conditioning, rear vision camera and an automated route finder were all showcased in this ground-breaking vehicle 42 years ago. Many of these technologies have only recently made their way into mass production, demonstrating Holden's remarkable foresight into both design and engineering technology.
The Holden Hurricane stole headlines and dropped jaws nationwide when it debuted at the 1969 Melbourne Motor Show.
Michael Simcoe, Executive Director GMIO Design, said it was fantastic to see such a significant vehicle restored.
"At Holden we have always prided ourselves on our ability to look into the future through our concept cars," Mr Simcoe said.
"It's amazing to think that the features we take for granted today were born out of creative minds over 40 years ago."
As its code name suggests, the RD 001 was the first product of the GMH Research and Development organisation, staffed by a small squad of engineers working in conjunction with the Advance Styling Group at the Fishermans Bend Technical Centre in the 1960s.
The team that designed and built the original Holden Hurricane employed some advanced technologies and techniques when it came to the powertrain. Powered by an experimental 4.2-litre (253 cubic inch) V8, this engine was a precursor to the Holden V8 engine program which entered production in late 1969.
The Holden Hurricane's V8 engine featured many advanced design components such as the four-barrel carburettor - a feature which wouldn't be seen on a production 253ci Holden V8 until the late 1970s. The end result was approximately 262hp (193kW), a towering power output in 1969 and one that ensured the Holden Hurricane had the go to match its show.
But perhaps the two most innovative features were the "Pathfinder" route guidance system and the rear-view camera.
The "Pathfinder", essentially a pre-GPS navigation system, relied on a system of magnets embedded at intersections along the road network to guide the driver along the desired route. A dash-mounted panel informed the driver of which turn to take by illuminating different arrows, as well as sounding a warning buzzer.
The rear-view camera was also a ground-breaking innovation.
Engineers using a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system with a camera mounted in the rear bumper feeding vision to a small black-and-white TV mounted in the centre console.
Former Holden Chief Studio Engineer Rick Martin led the modern-day Hurricane team in researching the vehicle's components, systems and history in order to restore it.
"There are some genuinely remarkable ideas and technology in the Hurricane," said Mr Martin.
"From the automatic air-conditioning and magnet-based guidance system, to the inertia-reel seat belts and metallic paint, this was a car that was genuinely ahead of its time.
"The hand-picked team of engineers and designers who built the original Holden Hurricane worked in strict secrecy and began Holden's now proud tradition of ground-breaking concept cars."
RD 001 stands just 990mm high and has no doors in the conventional sense. A hydraulically-powered canopy opens upwards and forward over the front wheels, combined with twin "astronaut type" power-elevating seats which rise up and pivot forward, along with the steering column for ease of access. Occupants are then lowered to a semi-reclining position before the roof closes over them.
The wind tunnel-tested fibreglass body consists of three segments; the canopy, the engine hood and body shell and was finished in an experimental aluminium flake-based metallic orange paint.
Safety innovations included a foam-lined fuel tank, integrated roll-over bar, digital instrument readouts, ignition safety locks, interior padding and a fire warning system.
The project to restore RD 001 began in 2006 and has been a genuine labour of love for some very dedicated Holden employees. The entire restoration process has been driven primarily by volunteer labour from Holden designers and engineers in their spare time.
But the Hurricane first entered Holden Design in less than immaculate condition. RD 001 had a residency in a trade school where apprentices practised their welding on the priceless concept.
After being returned to Holden in 2006, the Hurricane restoration project has taken many thousands of painstaking man hours to lovingly restore RD 001 to concourse condition.
Holden's Manager for Creative Hard Modelling, Paul Clarke, has been largely responsible for managing the restoration of RD 001. He ensured as many of the original parts as possible have been used or remade using modern techniques to 1969 specification, in order to preserve the authenticity of this hugely important Holden.
"The entire team has done a fantastic job in bringing this beautiful concept back to life," Mr Clarke said.
"The talent we have within the Holden organisation is simply outstanding. Every time we take on a project I'm constantly amazed by the passion and talent in this company, making it a genuine pleasure to work on these projects.
"The Hurricane plays a crucial role in Holden's story and the company has such a great sense of history and heritage that it was very important to bring RD 001 back to life. It's been a challenging but incredibly rewarding process."
Since the debut of the Holden Hurricane Concept in 1969, Holden has continued to build a global reputation for envisioning and executing world-class concept vehicles. Holden is recognised globally within General Motors as a centre of excellence for concept vehicle and show car development and is one of only three GM design studios that is capable to design and build concept cars.
Michael Simcoe added that the Hurricane holds a particularly special place in Holden's history as it kick-started Holden's long love affair with concepts that has since seen the likes of the iconic GTR-X, Torana TT36, Coupe 60, the GMC Denali XT (which was requested specifically by GM for the North American market) and the award-winning Efijy.
