Send me back to the mountains where life isn't always about the hustle and bustle. Send me back to where the air is fresher, the rocks are smoother, and the ground is rougher. Where the pine trees loom over your every move, and sway within the breeze. Where the animals rule over the hills, and pass you by without a care in the world. This is where I want to be.

Wilson's Creek Waterfall and Caldwell County Courthouse Wedding
~ Memorable courthouse wedding in Lenior, NC with a majestic waterfall ~
Tumblr media
As a wedding photographer, I've had the pleasure of attending quite a few distinct and memorable weddings, but there's nothing like the wedding day of a close friend or family member. I was so happy to be a part of this wedding which I'll remember forever. In March, I made the journey back to my hometown of Lenoir, North Carolina, to document the wedding of my sister, Christina, and her now husband, Jared.

Emotional Ceremony at Caldwell County Courthouse
Christina and Jared chose to have their wedding ceremony at the Caldwell County Courthouse. Their ceremony was held in the magistrate's office, which was initially quite hard to find. When we first arrived, we thought we had the wrong place because the main courthouse doors were locked. It turns out the magistrate's office has a discreet entrance on the back, on the eastern side of the courthouse, off Mulberry Street. Unfortunately, no cameras were allowed inside the magistrate’s office. On the bright side, this allowed for a more intimate ceremony and allowed me to be able to fully present as a witness for their ceremony. The magistrate's office was quite small and was not far off from what you would think a stereotypical office looks like. Despite the bland setting, Christina and Jared were able to have a beautiful ceremony. Christina and Jared wrote their own vows that were so touching that the magistrate even teared up. This was the first time experiencing that for courthouse wedding where the officiant didn't know the couple! Another special moment that made the ceremony even more emotional was their ring bearer, Christina and Jared's 4-year-old son. He was so excited and happy for his parents, he had a little trouble staying still, he also decorated the box for the wedding rings, making them even more special.

Memories at Wilson's Creek
After the courthouse ceremony, we headed to Wilson's Creek, a place that held special significance for Christina and Jared. Wilson's Creek is a 23.3-mile mountain stream in the Pisgah National Forest, starting in Grandfather Mountain. The creek is known for its stunning waterfalls and beautiful scenery. My favorite time to visit the creek is in the fall as the leaves start to turn, it's so beautiful! This wedding took place in March just as the plants were starting to regrow after the winter. This allowed us to get a unique blend of rustic winter leaves with hints of greenery throughout the forest. While some parts of Wilson's Creek can get quite busy, the area Christina and Jared chose for their post-wedding photoshoot was quiet and secluded which allowed us to relax and have fun capturing some photos. Another great highlight of this spot was the small waterfall that this section of the creek had.

First Date Flashbacks
This serene spot was actually the location of their very first date! Christina and Jared had written their initials on a rock by the seating area. Although they were the first to do so, they noticed that now their initials were joined by those of other couples on the neighboring rocks. During a break from taking photos, I noticed Jared looking around for something. I thought he may have dropped something, but he eventually stooped down near the waterfall to pick up a small red flower. Apparently he had found one during their first date and given it to Christina, so had been looking for one to give her on their wedding day as well.

A Candid Reception
After this initial intimate ceremony, Christina and Jared had a second wedding for more friends and family to be able to join. At this ceremony, they decided to opt out of an official photographer and instead offered disposable cameras for the guests to use throughout the night. They later had these photos developed, creating a beautiful, candid album of memories. It turned out a lot of the photos had been taken by their 4-year-old son, but they still ended up creating a great collection of fun and spontaneous photos. I think this is a great idea for those who are not interested in traditional photography or are just looking for a fun way to spice up your wedding album. Your guests will be able to capture some great moments you may never thought of getting on film and will almost always be some of your favorite shots from the night. This is also a great way to get some wedding guests up on their feet, even if they don’t want to join you on the dancefloor. You can always set up a photo booth or prop table next to some disposable cameras as well!

Christina and Jared's wedding day was a unique blend of intimate moments, personal touches, and cherished memories. As a wedding photographer, it was an unforgettable experience to capture these moments, and as a sister, it was even more touching.

Ever thought about eloping? What distressed bride hasn't!
If you're considering eloping, congratulations! Elopements can be intimate, romantic, and stress-free, allowing you to focus on what really matters: your love for one another. If you're looking for the perfect elopement venue, you're in luck. There are so many stunning elopement venues to choose from, and here are just a few of our favorites.
National Parks
One of the most breathtaking and unique elopement venues is a national park. Imagine exchanging vows amidst the towering mountains, sparkling lakes, or sweeping vistas of a national park. Some of the most popular national park elopement locations include Yosemite, Rocky Mountain, and Yellowstone, but there are many more to choose from.
One advantage of eloping in a national park is that you'll have access to a wide variety of landscapes and backgrounds for your wedding photos. You could exchange vows in a meadow, at a waterfall, or even on a mountaintop. National parks also tend to have fewer rules and regulations than other venues, so you'll have more freedom to create your dream elopement.
Beaches
If you and your partner love the beach, consider eloping on the sand. Whether you choose a secluded cove or a bustling beachfront, a beach elopement is sure to be memorable. Some popular beach elopement locations include Hawaii, the Caribbean, and California.
One thing to keep in mind when eloping on a beach is the weather. Make sure to choose a time of year when the weather is likely to be pleasant, and have a backup plan in case of inclement weather. You may also want to consider hiring a wedding planner to help you navigate any logistical challenges that may come up.
Wine Country
For a romantic and intimate elopement, consider tying the knot in wine country. Napa Valley, Sonoma, and Tuscany are all popular destinations for wine country elopements. Surrounded by rolling hills, vineyards, and wineries, a wine country elopement is sure to be picturesque.
One advantage of eloping in wine country is that you'll have access to some of the best food and wine in the world. Many wineries also offer on-site catering and event spaces, making it easy to plan your elopement. Just be prepared for a potentially higher price tag, as wine country elopements can be more expensive than other venues.
Mountain Resorts
If you're a fan of the great outdoors, consider eloping at a mountain resort. With their stunning mountain views, cozy cabins, and outdoor adventure opportunities, mountain resorts offer a unique and romantic setting for an elopement. Some popular mountain resort elopement destinations include Aspen, Banff, and Whistler.
One thing to keep in mind when eloping at a mountain resort is the weather. Mountain resorts can be colder and snowier than other destinations, so make sure to dress appropriately and have a backup plan in case of inclement weather. You may also want to consider hiring a wedding planner to help you navigate any logistical challenges that may come up.
No matter where you choose to elope, the most important thing is that the location feels meaningful and special to you and your partner. Whether you opt for a national park, a beach, wine country, or a mountain resort, an elopement allows you to create a unique and personal wedding experience that reflects your love and personalities.

Hobbits are attracted to soft things, Dwarves are attracted to opulence.
It was the talk of the Shire when the last Baggins ran off on an adventure, presumed dead of course, those adventures are nasty, deadly things; even more so when he popped up again, a rather large, rather wild looking fellow at his side. He'd not been home for long before talks of a wedding started circulating. And of course there's no talk for polite society quite like wedding talk. It was even more a surprise when, confronted about the rumors on one screechy morning by a Lobelia Sackville-Baggins, he quite gleefully announced that it wouldn't be to a Hobbit at all but to a dwarf of all people. The dwarf that had taken to following Mister Baggins everywhere, Dwalin they called him, had let loose a rather frightening, growly laugh at the shock on all their faces. Poor Miss Sackville-Baggins had to be carried down the hill after she fainted the poor dear. They were told to sit tight and be patient, that they would get their fill of ogling soon enough. In the meantime all of the Shire was alive with the joyous occasion of wedding preparation. Because if there is one thing that Hobbits love more than Mushrooms it is celebrating. And a wedding of any kind is as good of an excuse as any.
A quiet catching worry of having so many dwarves about does spread through many of the older, more respectable hobbits. They're just so very different is all, especially if they're anything like Mister Dwalin; who is a great help when it comes to lifting heavy things but is truly terrifying when he's had a bit much to drink as he's fond of heavy handed cuddles and the hobbits are a fragile folk that bruise quite easily.
So is it any wonder that mutters and murmurs chase up and down the hill when the wedding party arrives for one Mister Bilbo Baggins and the good folk of Hobbiton get a look at his groom?
At first glance he was a very comely fellow, round and jolly with a smile that could make up for the beard. And then he was introduced as one Master Bombur, one of the Groomsmen. The good hobbits of the Shire were quite quietly appalled when Mister Baggins introduced his Fiance to them. A Master Thorin Oakenshield Son of Thrain Son of Thror; a rugged dwarf with far too many angles and tangles and hard lines and edges, covered from head to toe in lean muscle that had a great many hobbits doubting Mister Baggins skills as a homemaker. He was grumpy whenever he was parted from his fiance and moody at the best of times. There was nothing soft about him, which it is common knowledge to be that which Hobbits prize most dearly in a partner. And, in the opinions of the Hobbiton high society, one of the singularly most unpleasant and unattractive individuals in the entirety of Middle Earth.
Though he did briefly salvage their good opinion when he thoroughly and succinctly put at least a temporary end to the screeching of Lobelia Sackville-Baggins by glowering at her so hard she was, for the first and probably the last time in her life, struck dumb.
As the wedding grew closer the murmurs grew more frantic, was Mister Baggins really intent to tie himself to this unpleasant dwarf? He was certainly eccentric but he's a kind fellow and the hobbits of Hobbiton surely did not wish to see him miserable. Such murmurs persisted until the time they were overheard by the rather overzealous nephews of the dwarf in question and were silenced with enthusiastic prejudice. So the Hobbits worried. Privately. And quietly. (No one was going to be the first to find out if the young dwarves really would skewer them like shish kabobs and leave them to dry in the sun.)
Until the day of the wedding.
Gathered in a discontented crowd the hobbits of the Shire watched on as the glowering dwarf stood watching for his husband to be, barely paying any heed to the officiant. (To be fair Old Took was paying him about the same amount of mind, distracted he was rattling off tales of Tooks past). And then, when Bilbo entered, something remarkable happened.
The Dwarf softened.
Icy steel eyes melted into warm springs, tense shoulders settled open and loose, clenched fists relaxed, subconsciously reaching forward just the slightest bit.
That day, that dwarf was the softest of any seen before or seen since to this very day. And every single Hobbit in the Shire was jealous of one Bilbo Baggins and his beautiful soft dwarf.
