Ok but roasting all the pompous nobles who visit the academy/at events with Murtagh: just leaning over his shoulder when someone is being an idiot and whispering stuff to him like “I see the lights are on, but nobody’s home” and him struggling not to spit out his drink laughing.

The dragons are named like this because:
- Saphira: basically because she's blue
- Thorn: terrible past, ptsd, claustrophobia, he's literally as red as blood, his rider is a magnet for troubles, a name a guarantee

Do you think that Galbatorix making Nasuada hallucinate about a future with Murtagh were actually the fantasies he had with Morzan

If I made a video about Eragon would you watch it?
I don't really do media analysis on Philosophy Tube because other people can do it better and also it's just not where I'm strongest - however I do kindof want to do an unnecessarily deep dive into the Eragon books?
I just finished the new one and I have a lot of thoughts, but mainly a lot of joy and excitement that I want to share???
idk would you watch that? If I was like, "Hey - normally we do serious philosophy, but just this once for a treat let's do something easy and different and talk about a fantasy book series I love?"
Last time I did media analysis was with the Chernobyl series back in Philosophy Tube Season 2 and it didn't do super well, but I feel the planets aligning to try it again...
I think there's potentially some interesting questions to be asked... Honestly, part of my reluctance (I'm recognising now) is my own snobbery. There are so many YouTubers who do media analysis and I like the idea that Philosophy Tube is somehow more highfalutin than that, but that's pride talking and maybe I shouldn't listen to that...

So I finished up Murtagh finally and god I'm crying.
So hum... thoughts and spoilers bellow?
How do I find words to describe my feelings with this book?
Eragon was something I read not too long after it launched and it's been a huge part of my life. And I always liked Murtagh and later Thorn, feeling sad when we didn't get to see much from their PV along with what they went through.
And then Paolini goes and released Murtagh. And damn what a ride.
First of all, as a write he has evolved so much his narrative from when it started and it shows, I felt like I grew along with him and seeing how much love and effort he poured onto this book made me happy.
I know you will never see this but thank you for continuing this series and expanding more and more this world that is so rich.
NOW ONTO THE ACTUAL BOOK.
I loved it. I waited to read it despite having it since launch and I'm glad I did, i needed a good mindset to be able to understand and feel this book.
Murtagh and Thorn are an amazing duo and their conection being forged not only because they are dragon and rider but also because they were suvivors of extreme abuse and torture, both physical and mental. I dare say that this makes their conection deeper than Eragon and Saphira's but that's my interpreation.
I love how despite everything Murtagh is still, at his core, a good person, as illustrated when he met that young girl and immediately went to search if she was being abused or not.
He often weights the consequences of what he did and despite not regreting some it's clear that if he could he would do some things differently but he is not bantering himself for the things he had to do to survive. To keep him and Thorn safe.
AND GOD THORN
HOW I CRIED WHEN I FIRST NOTICED HIS PTSD. I kept wondering how bad Galbatorix tortured him to give him such a terrible trauma, and then ofc the answer was given to me some pages later, and I hated Galbatorix even more than before.
Each flashback we got from the events we knew happened but never actually saw were so devastanting and so well written? Made me relate a lot to them and cry and cheer whenever they were taken by bad luck or managed to outcome something.
Heck I was cheering when they managed to kill that stupid fish.
(Also fuck Durza)
I love how Paolini kept characters that are gone still somewhat alive by every now and them having something reminding Murtagh of them. Like the whole bit with Durza (while tragic I did find it hilarious that he took time out of his evil scheme to make a couple kids miserable), or him seeing things and being briefly reminded of Brom, despite having not spent that much time around the old man.
I can't wait to see more of this, be it 5 or 14 years.
Ok now to the bad guy.
What did I think of Bachel?
She is such a good villain. She being a narcisistic and a cult leader was a great choice as narcisits are great at manipulating people and she is such a self absorved person. Do I believe everything she claimed, no. Narcisists often manipulate things for their own benefit to make sure it favors them. So yes, some things did happen but not to the extent and magnitude that she said.
The torture scene and my boys ultimately breaking made me legit cry. I almost dropped the book because i was like they went through that whole ordeal just to be slaved again? no I can't bear it.
And then we get introduced to the two side characters that I think made the whole thing shine: Uverk and Alín.
Having Murtagh forge a genuine friendship and have the blood pack with Urvek was refreshing and kind of interesting considering he seemed to have way less prejudice against Urgals than Eragon. I hope he returns in the next book.
And Alín being such a kind girl but first blinded by the whole cult thing, having it being stripped away by the way Thorn was mistreated was such a good development for her. I hope we get to see her and Nasuada be friends.
I love this book, one of my favorites, would reread time and time again for sure.
Thank you Paolini for giving this man a voice finally and continuing the saga in a way that doesn't feel forced but natural, showing problems of a kingdom under a new manejament after a century, with a lot of grey and deep characters.

Hi, again! So I guess this would be more of a modern take maybe, but if formal wear in Alagaesia was different, do you think Murtagh would be wearing a regular tie, one of those straight and narrow ones, or a bowtie? (Why this is the first thing that I could of think of is beyond me lol)
Also I hope you feel so much better. Those flare ups sound awful 🥺
Thank you! They're getting a little better, but still up and down. But I think we're getting there (fingers crossed).
I think he'd opt for a straight and narrow one more often than not, but would do a bowtie if a fancy ball/party situation called for it. I don't really think he'd like wearing the bowtie and would grumble while tying it lol but I think he'd grin and bear it for formality/appearance's sake. I'm a huge sucker for the no tie, just a suit with a button-up underneath that has the top few buttons undone and I could see him actually liking the freedom of that, especially given his background with everything fancy.
Ugh, now I'm picturing him taking his jacket and tie off at the end of the night and unbuttoning the top few buttons *drool*
