Xiantober 2023 - Day 9: Training
Word Count: 617 Pairing: Wangxian Tags: Post Canon Wangxian, loving husband Lan Zhan
Lans do not lie.
Lan Wangji will not lie.
He loves his husband.
He loves his husband so much.
He loves his husband when he is being silly, running around the rabbit field with the bunnies. He loves his husband when he is showing off his intelligence, teaching classes in The Cloud Recesses when another teacher is out. He loves his husband when he is doting on the juniors and the children, fussing over their health and happiness. He loves his husband when he is tired, sleepily clinging to him when it is time to wake in the morning, mumbling a soft ‘five more minutes’ that turns into a few more hours. He loves his husband when he acts defenseless, running behind him and begging his husband to protect him from a threat that Lan Zhan knows Wei Ying can defend himself from.
He loves his husband when he is being bratty, demanding all of Lan Zhan’s attention– and he gives it to him. He loves his husband when he is mischievous, pulling pranks on the other sect disciples and then howling in laughter. He loves when his husband is turned on, moaning endlessly for Lan Zhan to do unseemly things to him well into the night. He loves his husband when he is considerate, when they both wake in the middle of the night, scared that the past few years have been a dream and Wei Ying holds him, gently caressing his scars and reminding him that they are together at last.
He loves his husband when he is strong, when he shows that he is not the feeble Lan-Er-Furen that everyone claims him to be.
Like right now.
Wei Ying had said he was restless and wanted to stretch out his muscles and work on his fighting skills. Several disciples quickly jumped at the chance to prove themselves, to prove that they can level with the great and terrifying Yiling Patriarch.
But they cannot.
Lan Zhan watches in absolute adoration as Wei Ying single handedly takes out each and every disciple who stepped up to challenge him, all without the use of a golden core. Lan Zhan is in awe of this man's strength. He hides the twitch of a smile when Wei Ying punishes the fallen disciples to 100 handstand pushups for their arrogance, citing that Lans must always be regal and humble.
Of course Wei Ying joined them, the whole purpose of today was to train, after all.
He watches as they fall into several more exercises, Wei Ying leading them and correcting their forms as if it was the most natural thing to do. Always leading by showing.
His husband was amazing.
As the sun finally sets and Wei Ying decides he’s trained enough for the day, he bounds over to Lan Zhan, collapsing into his arms. “Lan Zhan! Husband! Did you see how hard they worked me today?!” He wails, throwing his head back, his arm moving to cover his face.
“Mn.”
“Not a moment’s rest, I tell you! Do they not know that their Hanguang Jun will keep me awake all night long?”
Lan Zhan’s interest is piqued and his ears tint red.
“I tell you,” Wei Ying continues, “no consideration for this feeble one! I am absolutely wrecked!”
He certainly would be by the time they fell asleep.
“Mn, very inconsiderate.” Lan Zhan mused lightly, easily grabbing the tray of food nearby so he could feed his husband.
“Aiya~ You’re so good to this one, husband~”
“Will always spoil Wei Ying.”
Wei Ying’s grin grew as he happily took another bite, settling into Lan Zhan’s arms to be fed like a spoiled Prince.
Lan Zhan truly loved his husband.

It's time for the last post of our Rewind 2023. There are still a few stories left that were published this year that deserve a shout-out and I hope you will shower them with love as well. I'll also make sure to make a Masterpost for all Rewind 2023 posts, so that it's more convenient to find them.
Part I
Part II
Part III
~*~
watch your anger
by loosingletters (@loosingmoreletters)
T, 1k, Cangse Sanren | Kay's Rec
Summary: Watch your anger, her master used to say, never reprimanding Cangse Sanren for her temper tantrums, mainly reminding her of what she stood to lose if she gave in. Cangse Sanren survives. Wei Changze does not.
~*~
Day 1: Dad!Xian
by UseMyMuse (@museywrites)
G, 1k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Part of Xiantober 2023
Summary: Wei Ying is a tired single parent, but a good cup of coffee and a handsome, flirty stranger leads to a happy future
~*~
Day 4: Ghost!Xian
by UseMyMuse (@museywrites)
T, 5k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Part of Xiantober 2023
Summary: Wei Ying died at the age of 10, but miraculously the little boy Lan Wangji from down the street was able to see him. They become an unlikely pair and form an unbreakable friendship. Things seem fine until a hostile presence shakes Wei Ying to his ghostly core.
~*~
waiting for us
by sunflowersfield
T, 3k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: Wei Ying is in the middle of cooking dinner when Lan Zhan walks into the apartment on Friday night. As soon as the door opens, Wei Ying drops his knife onto the counter with a clatter, abandoning his recipe so that he can throw his arms around Lan Zhan and pull him close. “You’re here!” he exclaims, grinning when he feels Lan Zhan’s arms curl around his waist. “I am here,” Lan Zhan replies in his steady, calming voice, and Wei Ying’s smile grows wider. Or: Wei Ying and Lan Zhan attend different colleges, but they spend every weekend together.
~*~
Snapping The Banjo
by Anonymous
M, 8k, Wangxian & Xuanli | Kay's Rec
Summary: “A-Jie…” Jiang Cheng pushes. “I broke my husband’s penis during sex.” One quick in-out breath as Yanli raises her chin high, pivots sharply on her heel and marches back off towards the building. Wei Ying opens his mouth. Jiang Cheng slowly raises a hand to silence him, expression on his face as if he had been slapped with a wet fish. Wei Ying and Lan Zhan's date night has gone wrong. Then, Jiang Yanli calls to ask her brothers for a ride to the hospital. Jiang Yanli's date night has gone very wrong.
~*~
Just a Little Wound
by meyari
T, 4k, Wangxian | Mojo's Rec
Summary: Raising a child is sometimes a challenge, especially when you’re confronted with a little boy who has no idea whatsoever why it’s not appropriate to stab people who are rude.
~*~
a better world
by ilip13 (@ilip13)
G, 1k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: It’s been a year, today. A year of wearing a borrowed body, and all of a sudden, Wei Wuxian doesn’t feel like getting up and getting on with his day. * Some days are not great and that's okay.
~*~
At the end of all things
by Entityx
M, 6k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Part of the MDZS Mini Remix for Tired Adults™
Summary: Lan Wangji is aware that he is not the only one who is left haunted by constant bloodshed. Everyone has changed over the course of the Sunshot Campaign. However the one who underwent the most drastic change was undeniable. It's subtle- he's still friendly and boisterous with members of his sect. But he is not truly open anymore. Gone is the optimistic boy who radiated sincerity with every word. Instead he is replaced with a hollow imitation, with a smile cracked at the edges, and a laugh that is too hollow to fool anyone.
~*~
What Lies Beneath These Hallowed Woods
by meekome (@meekkome)
M, WIP, 19k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: The shadows are alive. Writhing and twisting around him, creeping over him, between his fingers, around his throat, curious and hungry. The dirt beneath is black like dried blood, which makes the shards and fragments of bones half-buried around him easy to see, white and glimmering unnaturally bright in the gloom. Then something looks at him, from behind the shadows, and Wei Wuxian flinches at the weight of its attention. “Who are you?” Wei Wuxian says, voice echoing strangely as the silence stretches and the resentment nips at his skin, held back by this thing he cannot see. You do not have a name for what I am, it finally says. Wei Wuxian sucks in a slow breath. “What are you, then?” The trees bend and snap in a sudden breeze and the ghosts around him spin and whine, and Wei Wuxian is horrified to realize it is laughing. Shall I let you see, little cultivator? Doing so has driven more humans mad than the number of bones that sleep beneath your feet. But Wei Wuxian has never been good at ignoring knowledge, no matter the consequences, and he does not look away.
~*~
an inch away from more (than just friends)
by occultings (microcomets) (@microcomets)
E, 15k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Part of WLW Wangxian Week 2023
Summary: “What do you think about,” Wei Ying said aloud, before she could stop herself, before she could even think twice about the repercussions. “When you.” She finally found Lan Zhan’s eyes, molten in the low light, and swallowed in a tiny, audible gulp. “You know.” On Wei Ying, Lan Zhan’s gaze didn’t waver even a fraction. “Giving head,” she said. Wei Ying was certain she’d misheard. “Getting head?” “No,” said Lan Zhan. — After a surprise party gone awry, Wei Ying surprises herself.
~*~
💙 The loudest silence
by barisan (@barisan-no)
T, 15k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Part of the MDZS Mini Remix for Tired Adults™
Summary: In almost two decades of peace and with a whole generation who has not known differently, it is hard for those who sit above such dangers to fear a banal death. In a lifetime of not knowing what it means to be truly and utterly alone in such a world, it is hard to understand it is often a sentence. Or, a remix of our beloved post-cql WWX whump
~*~
The lavender handkerchief
by barisan (@barisan-no)
Not rated, 1k, Lan Qiren & Wei Wuxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: Wei Wuxian’s time on the streets left a deeper wound on his mind. Lan Qiren finds him having a panic attack after being triggered during his punishment.
~*~
Song of the River Rain
by MajiLovePrincess
E, 9k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Part of the MDZS Reverse Big Bang: 2023
Summary: “Jiaoren,” the man breathes, his voice soft and his golden eyes wide. Those strange eyes dart over Wei Wuxian’s sharp ears and nails before lingering on the bloody red of his tail. “Human,” Wei Wuxian sneers. “You should have fled when you had the chance.” ... When he wakes from his winter sleep, Wei Wuxian attempts to drive a farmer from his territory. He falls in love, instead. Lan Zhan's mysterious past does not do them the courtesy of staying buried.
~*~
Fit for Purpose
by Deastar (@youhideastar)
E, 18k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: Wei Wuxian is given clean clothes, and as much food as he wants, and a blanket. He still doesn’t know what a beta is. But he knows he is one, now. And he knows that that’s the reason he has these wonderful things. When Wei Wuxian was a little boy, Jiang Fengmian brought him home to Lotus Pier; when Yu Ziyuan learned the boy was a beta, she allowed him to stay. 30 years later, a resurrected Wei Wuxian hangs around Cloud Recesses and waits to wear out his welcome.
~*~
💙 all is bright
by sunflowersfield
T, 4k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: Wei Ying has slept in many different places. He has curled up on a park bench or a tiny cot in a room full of strangers. But somehow, he has never shared a bed with someone he cares about. He is realizing, now, as the sound machine fills his room with the pitter-patter of gentle rain, that he cares about Lan Zhan. Or: Wei Ying moves into his first apartment. His new neighbor helps him turn it into a home.
~*~
Your Shelter
by cosmicmilktea
T, WIP, 2k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Part of the MDZS Mini Remix for Tired Adults™
Summary: “There is no need for sorry,” Lan-gege had told him, what seemed like such a long time ago, “Robes can be cleaned.” But a soiled robe in Lotus Pier means lashes on his back and a night of kneeling in the ancestral hall, even if Jiang Cheng and all the other disciples also came back with mud and reeds painting their robes. A soiled robe means hearing baba and mama's names spoken in malice and ridicule. It means a gentle chiding from shijie as she pats his head and offers him a bowl of warm soup, which only made him miss the warmth of Xian-gege's safe embrace. His back hurts, and his knees ache from kneeling so long. Beneath his robes, Lan-gege's ribbon presses close to his heart, and it reminds him how he had felt so safe with the two men. How baba and mama had also made him feel safe even without the shelter of gilded walls and roofs. He longs to be that safe again, the longing building and building in the too-small confines of his chest until Wei Ying can not hold it in any longer. He runs.
~*~
We Meet at the Thousandth Step
by Admiranda (@ladypfenix), Rynne (@rynne)
T, WIP, 142k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: As they both go wherever the chaos might be, Lan Wangji and rogue cultivator Wei Wuxian, eldest child of the famous Cangse-sanren, find their paths converging. Soon they'll discover in each other the perfect partner for night hunting...and beyond.
~*~
12 Hours In Hell and Paradise (Or: Lan Zhan’s Distinguished Guide to Seasonal Depression)
by demonicsalad (@santonali)
T, 4k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: Wei Ying (1:01PM): brb putting lobotomy on my 2024 goals list Lan Zhan (1:02PM): Wei Ying. Wei Ying (1:02PM): [screenshot attached] Wei Ying (1:03PM): did i fucking stutter Or: of tears, tea, rotting, and long-overdue realizations
~*~
pale shadows of forgotten names
by Chrononautical (@chrononautintraining)
T, 56k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: To protect the Wen, Wei Wuxian throws himself on the mercy of the Lan Sect. To protect Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji marries him. To protect them all, Lan Xichen orders the Yiling Laozu's seclusion in the Jingshi. But the Jingshi had another occupant in the past. One who lingers on, furious to think that history might repeat.
~*~
Cuties and Questions
by WiseDawn13 (@wisedawn13)
T, 6k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: “Suibian?” a deep voice says suddenly, catching his attention. Wei Ying opens his eyes to look at who approached and promptly finds himself without breath at the sight of the man in front of him. After all these years he shouldn’t recognize him so easily, but Wei Ying would never be able to forget those eyes. “Oh!” Wen Ning squeaks. “You are familiar with Suibian?” Wei Ying watches as Lan Zhan nods to Wen Ning. “I am. Are you the creator of Yiling Cuties?” “Ah? Oh, no. No, that would be him,” Wen Ning replies, somewhat flustered. It takes far too long for Wei Ying to realize that Wen Ning just diverted Lan Zhan’s attention to him because suddenly those golden brown eyes are staring directly into his soul and it hurts more than he would have expected. OR Wei Ying and Lan Zhan lost touch when Wei Ying's family moved away when they were kids. Wei Ying moves back to his hometown years later, meeting the man he once knew as his best friend.
~*~
💙 A New Dynasty
by One_eyed_God (@oneeyedoctogod)
T, Series, WIP, 76k, Background Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: Wei Wuxian is well-known as a trouble-maker, someone who likes jokes and chaos. He promptly proves this by disappearing without a trace from the Cloud Recesses, in the middle of the Lectures. But when war is on the horizon and tensions boil over, can his actions really be summarized as a simple prank? Or, the unbelievable story of Wei Wuxian, time traveller, told from everyone's point of view but his.
~*~
Christmas Eve at Number 16
by liulans (@liulans)
T, 9k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: Lan Wangji considers that for a moment, squaring Wei Wuxian up. And then he says, “You are asking– if I would like to spend Christmas with you?” “It doesn't have to be, like, Christmassy,” he reminds him. “We can just hang out. Maybe you can come over tomorrow evening, and I'll have you back in your apartment before midnight. And then on Christmas day, I'll bring you an apple for luck, and that can be that.” “Okay.” Lan Wangji says, after a moment of brow-furrowing contemplation. “...Okay?” “I will see you tomorrow. I will– spend Christmas with you.” --- [Prompt: Character A can’t travel to see their family on Christmas, so they invite their grumpy loner neighbour Character B.]
~*~
Cleaning & Courtship
by Winxhelina (@winxhelina)
T, 13k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: It all started with some offhand comment Jin Zixun had made about Wei Wuxian's father having been a servant. About how he should stick to that and not aim for places not meant for him. Wei Wuxian had been at a party at the time with Nie Huaisang and unlikely as it had been, Lan Wangji had been there too. Wei Wuxian had complained about money and that had seemingly inspired the comment from a man, who, Wei Wuxian was sure, had never worked a day in his life. Lan Wangji had stared at Jin Zixun so hard Wei Wuxian thought he might actually drop dead. Somehow, two months later, Wei Wuxian actually finds himself cleaning rich people’s houses. There are very few cultivators wiling to clean houses for other cultivators, but there is demand for it. You can't hire a regular maid to dust and clean your ancient artefacts, even just sword maintenance is a whole area of expertise that civilians aren't qualified to do. In which Wei Wuxian accidentally ends up cleaning his long-time friend's house and Lan Zhan's room harbours a secret.

In the mood for...
~*~
1. ITMF growing up together/teen fics? Are there any fics which focus on the time before the characters all meet at the Gusu lectures? WWX and LWJ could meet as children on diplomacy visits, for example. The story could follow as they grow up and take on duties within their sect (like, how did WWX work hard and prove himself to be worthy of head disciple?), and then eventually catch up to canon when they hang out during the lectures. Thank you for any recs you can give!
the heartlines on our hands by occultings (microcomets) (E, 47k, WangXian, Soulmates, Angst with a Happy Ending, Mutual Pining, First Time, Canon Divergence, Canonical Character Death) Starts when LWJ is 8 years old. It a beautiful story
~*~
2. Hello! Do you have any recs for Wei Wuxian being raised as a servant, not as the head disciple of Yunmeng Jiang? He is treated as a servant by the Jiang family, maybe goes to the Gusu lectures as a servant (not as a student), in the Sunshot Campaign he is just another footsoldier/servant. Something along these lines, thank you!
The Myrmidon by Basingstoke (E, 33k, WIP, WangXian, SangXian, XiYao, WWX raised as a servant, spiritual weapons, gusu summer camp, Flirting, lots of flirting, they're young, Canon-Typical Violence, Canon-Typical Behavior, War) It was recced recently in another itmf and it was pretty good! WWX is brought up as a servant/bodyguard for Jiang Cheng.
Fangs of Desire by @museywrites (E, 39k, wangxian, JC/LXC, WQ/MM, JYL/JZX, SL/XXC, rape/non-con, graphic depictions of violence, vampire LWJ, hellhound/banshee WWX, dub con, sexual assault via vampire venom, addiction, recover, war, attempted murder, modern w magic) Vampire AU, but the rest fits pretty well :))
~*~
3. In the mood for: a non-villainous Jin Guangyao and Wei Wuxian (and if possible, Nie Huaisang) working together? I read a great fic where the three of them put their sneaky brains together and they made some instant message boxes (I can't remember the name of that fic TT) and I would love to see more of them being smarty pantses! I love when brains are used over brawn. Thank you! @gloriousclotpole
scorpion, before the frog by Stratisphyre (T, 59k, NieLan, 3Zun, Canon, Dragons, Found Family, Pre-Relationship, Mutual Pining, Parental Abuse, Hurt/Comfort, warning for JGS behaving exactly as expected, sometimes a redemption arc is just dragons and kids and found families, allusions to noncon because of JGS, derogatory references to sex work, suicidal ideation and attempt) the focus is more on jgy and nhs than it is on jgy and wwx, but i think scorpion, before the frog by stratisphyre might fit the bill
Meng Yao vs. the Board of the Homeowner's Association Series by Ariaste (M/T, 119k, WIP, XiYao, WangXian, Modern AU, Established Relationship, xiyao and wangxian are both already married, Family Feels, Domestic Fluff, Family Bonding, Slice of Life, Discussions of Past Trauma, wwx's canonical kinks, HOAverse)
Collaboration of Dangerous Minds by JustAWanderingBabbit (T, 14k, JGY & WWX, JGY & QS, canon divergence, unexpexted team up, fix-it, canonical sibling incest)
Alliance of the Traveling Pants by JustAWanderingBabbit (G, 112k, 3Zun, WangXian, WIP, Canon Divergence) Instant messaging is a game-changing element in Moxiang Tongxiu Crack and Drabbles, Chapter 11: Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by JustAWanderingBabbit (M, 159k, Drabble Collection, tags vary per story), which served as the pilot for Alliance of the Traveling Pants; the women invent it, but Meng Yao quickly learns it and it spreads through Team Sunshot.
Bait and Switch by JustAWanderingBabbit (T, 14k, 3Zun, WangXian, Canon Divergence, body switch, whatif, Weird Cultivation, Mojo's post) WWX and JGY wind up bodyswapped in a Sacrifice Summons gone awry (WWX, comatose rather than dead, has been cared for in secret at Lotus Pier.)
Really? Me Too! by mercyandmagic (M, 59k, XiYao, WangXian, JC/QS, Angst with a Happy Ending, Crack Treated Seriously)
Ch.46 of Moxiang Tongxiu Crack and Drabbles by JustAWanderingBabbit (M, 159k, WIP, Drabble collection) Chapter 46 of Moxiang Tongxiu Crack and Drabble has Wei Wuxian, Jin Guangyao, and Nie *Mingjue* thrown into a conspiratorial bond when a talisman accident enables them to see each others’ chibified Inner Selves.
~*~
4. Hihi! I've been on a 'secretly wealthy' Wei Wuxian kick after binge reading H_Belle's 💖 One Can Keep A Secret. I love those stories where Wei Ying becomes rich and famous by being himself. One of those ideas is that Wei Wuxian (canon timeline, not modern AU mostly) writes, novels. I have read a few but unfortunately I have been unable to find one of them. Basically, Wei Wuxian in the Burial Mounds Days writes novels that become famous and post Resurrection deciedes to take it up again. Any luck? @goddessa39
Chapter 14 of "WWX November Mayhem Prompts" by demoniqt (G, wangxian, one-shot, author WWX) But he's not rich.
💙 Away from Trouble by Ilona22 (M, 15k, WangXian, Not JC Friendly, LWJ/WWX Get a Happy Ending) might qualify. WWX is not secretly wealthy, but he does make a name for himself as both a cultivator and an artist under a pseudonym, and is living comfortably.
Come Around and Stay by trippednfell (M, 160k, WangXian, NieLan, Modern AU, Slow Burn, Kid Fic, Found Family, It Gets Worse Before It Gets Better, PTSD, Blood and Injury, Dissociation, Angst with a Happy Ending, POV Alternating, Yunmeng reconciliation (eventually), Friend Zoning, Literal Sleeping Together, Hurt/Comfort, Panic Attacks) also has a secretly wealthy/successful WWX
~*~
5. Fot the next I'm in the mood for... I'm in the mood for a fic where wei ying just decides to trust lan zhan and tell him about the core and his three months at the burial mounds after they meet again. So not lan zhan finding out by accident, but wei ying trusting him with it. Thanks! @ranfused4ever
Swordless by WithBroomBefore (G, 32k, WangXian, Established Relationship, Canon Divergence, WWX goes to Gusu, Golden Core Reveal, Trans Character, AFAB LWJ, philos)
Red Flower With One Hundred Petals; Smoke Carried on the Blue Dusk Air by carolyncaves (T, 32k, WangXian, Canon Divergence, Post-Sunshot Campaign, Alcohol, Mental Health Issues, Angst, Tenderness, Golden Core Reveal, Hurt/Comfort, thoughts of death/dying, Marriage Proposal, Wedding Fluff, Family Feels, Literal Sleeping Together, Shotgun Wedding, angry wedding planner JC, Yunmeng sibling drama and fluff, physical affection, Terrible Parties, Happy Ending)
~*~
6. hi! itmf fics that play up the effects of Wei Wuxian not having a golden core? He gets cold more quickly, needs to eat more, needs to sleep more, can't keep up with the cultivators as well, etc. Bonus points if Lan Wangji dotes on him to make up for it!
they who refuse to be blessed by sysrae (E, 7k, WangXian, JC & WWX, Canon Divergence, Hurt/Comfort, Angst, Whump, Golden Core Reveal, Developing Relationship, Bathing/Washing, Confessions, Sharing a Bed) I /suppose/ they who refuse to be blessed by sysrae would work? Definitely points how terrible conditions were in the Burial Mounds and what that physically would do to a recently coreless wwx
it rains, it pours by jublis (Not Rated, 38k, WIP, WangXian, Hurt/Comfort, Humor, Food as a Metaphor for Love, Case Fic, Established Relationship, Angst with a Happy Ending, Soft WangXian, Canon Compliant, Post-Canon, Protective LWJ, Protective WWX, YLLZ WWX, Rogue Cultivator LQY, LQY & WWX Friendship, BAMF MM, Horror, wwx-centric, Friendship/Love, Ghosts, Junior Quartet Dynamics) there is a story by jublis that plays into this esp in the first chapter, its a wip in progress, also a sequel (the first story is also amazing!)
DanTian Series by ArchiveWriter (E, 150k, WangXian, Post-Canon, Happy WangXian, Slice of Life, Established Relationship, Fluff, Domestic bliss, Family fluff, Tags Vary per story) this is a persistent theme in DanTian, by ArchiveWriter. WWX isn’t getting a new core, and LWJ (who has renounced immortality to age along with him) tenderly pampers him to the extent their austere mountain retreat allows.
Like a Water-Worn Stone by meyari (T, 41k, wangxian, major character death, hurt/comfort, chronic illness, serious injuries, self-medication, disability, PTSD, depression, self-worth issues, implied/referenced child abuse, prisoner of war, identity issues, tw JGS) these two have a same theme: wwx has chronic pain and because he didn't have golden core, he is not healing as fast as normal cultivato.
Elder, an Aesthetic by MarbleGlove (G, 8k, JC & WWX, fix-it, post-sunshot)
let the sun go down on your anger; let it burn you to sleep by enbysaurus_rex (Not Rated, 78k, WIP, WangXian, WWX & WQ, Narcolepsy AU, Chronic Illness, Chronic Pain, YLLZ WWX, Oblivious WWX, Sleeping Beauty Elements, Sleeping Beauty Fusion, tags at the beginning of every chapter, Body Horror) (link in #9)"let the sun go down on your anger; let it burn you to sleep" also works great here. WWX has been mitigating the effects of his undiagnosed narcolepsy with his core and has no idea how much his condition truly impacts him until he gives up his core
silt, or scurvy series by astronicht (M, 11k, wangxian, modern w/ magic, chronic illness, Podfic: The Silt or Scurvy Series by raitala) modern cultivation AU; the combination of corelessness and resentful energy immersion is causing WWX chronic illness and pain.
~*~
7. A) So I was reading Keep Holding On by abCEE and it was amazing. There was a part where we get to know that Wei WuXian's father WCZ is actually a young master of a wealthy, famous and powerful merchant family. The whole arc was really really good.
So this is an IITMF request: are there any fics similar to this? Like WWX being loaded af. And only canon era fics please, 'cause I've read a few modern fics with this theme, but WWX was a lot older in them.
Thank you so much for your precious time 💜
B) Hey!! Give me some NMJ and WWX friendship please :)
C) Are there any fics where there is no Golden Core theory at all? Like what would've happened if there was no such theory written by WQ.
@utxqia
~*~
8. itmf pov outsider fics that watch lwj fall in love with wwx or vice versa please 🥺
💙 Su She Eats his Heart Out by KizuKatana (T, 16k, WangXian, 3rd person pov, implied offscreen wangxian sex)
~*~
9. in the mood for a fic where the golden core transfer is described in excruciating detail :3

12. Hi there! I'd like to make a request for a future itmf if thats okay? I know you guys have the comps for parent wx but I was wondering if I could get some fics featuring pregnant wwx? Genderbend, mpreg, a/b/o, modern or canon au, I'm fine with anything! I've just been reading a few lately where wwx is pregnant and it goes through the months of his pregnancy and so I was hoping to find more like that. Hope this ask wasn't too weird 😅 thank you so much for all that you do!
We actually do have a Pregxian & Pregji Fic compilation! Though I am sure our followers will have plenty more recs for you ^^

13. Thanks for all your amazing work! I’m in the mood for fics about wangxian sworn brotherhood. Maybe wwx is all excited about having an official(ish) family for the first time. Maybe Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli have feelings about it. Maybe exploration of "historical" marriage and how that is or isn't what they want.

14. This is an a specific ITMF request; I'd love any fics where, post-canon, the Gusu elders give WWX so much hell that he decides to leave, and in solidarity with his beloved LWJ secedes from the sect to go with him.

15. Hiii!! I’m itmf doted on wwx. LIKE: imagine yanli…but make it wwx. Just basically most people actually like him and are protective of him (if he has a sorta weak cultivation, or has a delicate constitution, that would be a plus). Ty in advance!!! :D
some things go forward by everythingispoetry (T, 75k, wangxian, modern, hospitals, teenage drama, slow burn, hurt/comfort, fluff, happy ending) For 15! 16. Hello wonderful mods! ITMF fics where LWJ makes bad mistakes? I recently read this incomplete 2 chapter one where he dated WWX on a bet. I was hoping for something like this. But generally, anything where the fight/break up is LWJ's fault. (All the better if WWX doesn't immediately take him back). Thanks!

Damn shame it hasn't been updated in a while.

17. Hi, I guess this would be for the next in the mood for post but I was wondering if anyone knew any fics where LWJ points out some of the hypocrisy of the Lan or Cultivators in general. Or fics where LWJ helps Wen Ruohan? I have read a few fics where WWX goes back and time and sides with the Wen but none where LWJ does that. I've read some where he'll go back and side with the Wen Remnants but never the Wen as a whole. Thanks! @kasey1939

Xiantober 2023 - Day 12: Falling
Word Count: 438 Pairing: Wangxian Tags: Modern day, high school, the feeling of love
Wei Ying fidgeted lightly as he stepped in front of the class, glancing around before he looked at his teacher, Lan Qiren, who nodded for him to begin.
"Falling, by Wei Ying."
He cleared his throat lightly and glanced up over his paper, his breath catching in his throat when his silver eyes met those warm golden ones in the back of the room. He licked his lips and looked back at his paper.
"Falling is scary. The rush of wind. The uncertainty. The fear of impact, of humiliation, of pain. The waiting is excruciating. The unknown is suffocating. But falling is easy. Most people don't even have to think."
"A jump, a skip, a misstep, or even an intentional stride, all can lead to falling. You're certain, feet on solid ground. You're comfortable. You feel the weight of your life, the weight of your movements and decisions. You know how it will go."
"Then suddenly... Suddenly, the ground is gone. There is nothing around to grab, nothing to steady yourself. There's a rush and fear... then nothing."
His voice had been so soft, so unsure as he read his piece to the class. But he felt himself becoming more comfortable.
"Falling is weightless. It is freedom. The freedom of change, of chance, the freedom to do and be who you want to be. You cannot fly when you are stuck on the ground, but when you are falling.... oh, but when you are falling anything is possible!"
"You can brace for impact, shield yourself from the possibility of pain... or you can open your eyes. You can feel the wind in your hair, the sun on your face, you can feel the weightless joy of just being."
"But everything that goes up must come down. And the fear sinks in again. The fear of being seen. The fear of no one being there to catch you."
"But what if someone does catch you? Well... then I don't think falling is so bad. Because if he'll catch me... then I'll fall every day."
The class listened in confusion. It wasn't uncommon for Wei Ying's creative writing to go over their head, but despite not entirely understanding what he meant, the words resonated with them.
Wei Ying wondered how many understood that he wasn't just talking about falling, but rather... the feeling of falling in love.
He glanced up over his paper again and found those same golden eyes on him and his heart skipped a beat when he saw the soft look on Lan Zhan's face.
Yeah... falling wasn't so bad when you had someone to catch you.

Xiantober 2023 - Day 6: Streets of Yiling
Word Count: 1,148 Pairing: Wangxian Tags: Wangxian, teen Wangxian, street-rat Wei Ying, first kisses
Wei Ying sat on the rooftop of an old building in Yiling. It was old and abandoned, as was quite a lot of the city. But to the 15 year old street rat, it was home. He scoffed as he saw a pristine car park nearby.
Undoubtedly some rich folk trying to see if the area was worth a damn to purchase and tear down. Likely wanting to put up some new shopping center and wondering why customers were getting scared away by the ghosts that called this place home.
Wei Ying had learned to live beside them, he learned to coexist, and it was a peaceful life. He learned that most of these spirits didn't need to be abolished, so he had no desire to do such a thing.
He watched with half-interest as three men stepped from the car.
Some stuffy looking man who looked like he was near a midlife crisis (not really, but Wei Ying already knew he didn't like this one), a young man who was older than himself. He had a gentle smile and a soft air about him. He was a good egg.
And finally, a young teen about his age, if not a little bit older. Wei Ying had to admit.... he was kinda cute... though he wondered why he looked so stone-faced. He had a feeling he had a really nice smile.
He scooted to the edge of the roof, watching them as they discussed something, though he was too far to hear what.
Something on the younger boy's hip caught Wei Ying's attention, and he grinned. He had a wonderfully awful idea!
He waited until the group split up and then he made his move.
Wei Ying sent a few spirits to retrieve that very full looking money pouch from the youngest one's hip.  He watched from above as the pouch was snatched, the spirit didn't get far before it was caught. Wei Ying watched with wide eyes as he grabbed the wrapped object from his back,
the cloth flying off of it to reveal the most beautiful guqin he had ever seen.
Then realization dawned on him. The young street rat moved quickly, jumping from place to place until he could safely land, blocking the attack from his spirit, who threw him the pouch and took off.
Today was not a good day to be liberated.
"Hey, hey! No need to swing that thing so freely, Mr. Cultivator~" Wei Ying grinned, his silver eyes shining mischievously as he spun the money pouch around by its drawstring. "You want it back, you're gonna have to take it from me~"
"You--" Lan Wangji, as the young boy of 16 was called, stared at the other as if he was the most bizarre thing in the world. Did he just protect a spirit?? And he stole his money! "Give that back."
"Oh? This? Mm, how about a kiss and I'll give it back."
He grinned like a mad man and then nearly fell over laughing when he saw how red the other boy's ears went.
Furious at being taunted, the normally calm and collected young Lan lunged forward with his sword, hiding his surprise when Wei Ying dodged.
"Oooh, check you out!! A guqin and a sword?? You're the real deal, yeah? Oh man, that's awesome!" He laughed, dodging another attack before using two nearby buildings to get up onto a low hanging roof. "Not many cultivators like you exist in this day and age, ya know~"
"There are more than you think." He grit out, hurrying to chase after him, but Wei Ying knew these streets too well.
It took every ounce of his speed and skill to not lose the street rat, weaving in and out of streets, over roofs, to dead ends. And unfortunately, Lan Wangji was not prepared for the other to know any form of cultivation, so when he finally cornered the younger boy. He hadn't expected the paperman on his back to cause his body to stop being able to move.
"What did-- wh-when!?"
Wei Ying fell over laughing, holding his sides as he rolled in the dirt. "Oh man! Oh man, oh man! You should see your face!" He was practically wheezing.
The older boy glared at him, struggling to move as Wei Ying finally regained his composure and moved over to him, hands on his hips. "Man, that was a lot of fun~ thanks for entertaining me today."
The money pouch from early was tossed up and down a few times as Wei Ying came to a stop in front of him. "So? How about that kiss~?"
"You---! Shameless!!"
"Aw, well, that's alright. I guess I'll just keep this for myself then~ see ya around, pretty boy~"
However, Wei Ying only got a few steps before Lan Wangji managed to free himself of the crumbling piece of paper that Wei Ying used, and in a flash,
he had the younger boy against the wall.
"Whoa! Whoa! Easy!" Wei Ying held his hands up when he saw the glare fixated on himself. Maybe he had gone too far?
He was about to apologize when a pair of lips were over his,
for the briefest millisecond in history before Lan Wangji was reeling back, ears and cheeks red, he held his hand out for the pouch.
Wei Ying blinked dumbly a few times before he hesitantly held it out and dropped it into his hand.
"Oh my~"
Both boys froze before they glanced over as Lan Xichen approached them, his soft smile was disarming. "Wangji, you made a fast friend~"
"N-no, brother this w-was--"
"It is alright, I won't tell uncle."
He winked playfully at his little brother, who looked like he could die on the spot, before he gave his attention to Wei Ying. "Hello there, can I ask your name?"
"U-um..." He cleared his throat, trying not to think about the fact he just lost his first kiss. "I'm Wei Ying."
"Ah, I see. You're the young boy we heard about that lives here." He smiled warmly. "I am glad we found you."
"Me? What do you want with me?"
"We want to ask you to come back to Gusu with us."
"What?!" Both boys shouted in unison, making Xichen chuckle.
It took quite a bit of convincing, but by the time the sun was setting, the car was pulling out of Yiling with an extra passenger. The back seat was exceptionally quiet, with the two boys still too flustered to look at one another.
Only Xichen wasn't surprised several years later when Wei Ying and Lan Zhan announced that they were getting married. He watched with a knowing smile as Wei Ying once more stole Wangji's money pouch on the day of their wedding.
The illustrious Hanguang-Jun chasing his husband around in their red silk robes like they were teenagers again.

Xiantober 2023 - Day 1: Dad!Xian
Word Count: 1,323 Pairing: Wangxian Tags: Parent Wei Ying, Children with unnamed ex, Smooth Lan Zhan, OC Children, MPREG
Wei Ying heaved a sigh and watched as his three young children ran around the park. Today was his first day off in almost two weeks, and he was exhausted. Between getting up early (never an easy task for Wei Ying), getting the kids ready and off to daycare, the grueling tasks at work, and then feeding, bathing, and playing with his beloved children after work, he was wiped out.
He wanted nothing more than to crawl into bed and sleep for 1,000 years. But that's not what parents get to do.
Of course, Wei Ying loved his children, and he would do this every day without question, but that didn't mean he wasn't tired. He wanted a new job as well, but with such little time for himself, he never really had a chance to apply to new places.
So for now, he'd deal.
After rubbing his eyes, he noticed the twins fighting for control of the slide and he frowned. "Baihe! HeLian! Share the slide!"
A little pouty chorus of "Yes, baba!" sounded and Wei Ying nodded, pleased that they were listening.
Wei Ying stifled another yawn before he heard someone close by clear their throat and he turned to see who it was.
He half expected it to be some other parent, ready to complain to him about how he's raising his children, but what he didn't expect, was the world's most beautiful man to be standing there with two cups in his hand, looking rather unsure.
"Pardon me," he started rather unsurely. "I hope you don't find this rude or uncomfortable. But I noticed how tired you seemed..."
He frowned, realizing that likely wouldn't be something someone would want to hear. "But, I just grabbed a tea for myself, and thought you might like a coffee as well."
At first, Wei Ying had half a mind to tell this beautifully sculpted man, with his perfectly tuned voice to fuck off.
Of course he was tired! He was a single parent of three, had no help, had a shitty job, the list went on and on! The last thing he needed was some god-like stranger telling him how tired he was.
But then he heard about the coffee.
Then, he noticed the little boy peeking out from behind him.
Oh.
Oh, he was just another parent looking out for another parent. Wei Ying gave a tired smile and nodded. "You have no idea how good a coffee sounds right now, thanks a bunch! How much was it? I can pay you back."
The man handed over the coffee and then gently touched the little boy's head. "Jingyi, go play."
He nodded and hurried off to play and Wei Ying noticed he instantly gravitated towards his A-Yuan.
"You do not need to pay me back," the man finally addressed. "May... I sit?"
"Oh, fuck! Yeah, sorry." He grabbed the bag beside him, moved it to the ground, scooted over for him as the man sat down. "Are you sure? You definitely didn't need to do that. Buy a stranger a coffee I mean."
"I am certain." He assured, he seemed uncomfortable, like he wasn't used to striking up conversation.
"Well, thanks a bunch." Wei Ying took a sip of the coffee and sighed happily. "It's hard wrangling three kids into a coffee shop, and my coffee maker is broken- go figure, so I haven't had any today."
"Is... your partner not able to help watch them while you get a cup?"
"Oh, pfft, nah. That ass is a deadbeat that I haven't seen since the twins were born. It's just me."
The man seemed surprised by that, unsure how anyone could just leave their children, or their significant other. Especially one as beautiful as this man.
"You're son is cute." Wei Ying spoke up, breaking the man's train of thought.
"My... son? Oh! No," he shook his head. "Jingyi is my nephew."
"Oh! Shit, my bad. You two just look so much alike, I assumed. Sorry!"
"No, it's alright. You're not the first to assume."
Wei Ying smiled a little, the coffee certainly waking him up a little. "Well, he's lucky to have such a handsome uncle!" A pause. "Caring! I meant caring uncle!"
The man's lips quirked briefly into a smile before his neutral expression returned once more and Wei Ying thought he'd kill to see that smile last.
"Mn. And your children are lucky to have such a beautiful father."
Wei Ying's eyes widened and he sputtered lightly, spitting some of his precious coffee out. "Wha- n-no, i--" He laughed a little. "I appreciate the compliment, but I'm a fucking mess." He glanced down at himself, clothes that he was pretty sure weren't in the clean pile, a few food stains from the kids, dark circles under his eyes, his hair was a mess.
"I disagree." The man said simply, taking a sip of his tea. "I think you are stunning. Perhaps... Perhaps it is a good thing you 'look like a mess'. If you looked any more gorgeous, you would be causing accidents."
Silver eyes widened in disbelief, looking at this Adonis of a man as if he said the most outrageous thing in the world. And he had! Yet. Here was Wei Ying, with his heart fluttering against his ribcage. He cleared his throat and hid his face against his coffee cup.
"I don't think that's fair coming from the world's most gorgeous man."
"Most gorgeous? But I'm the one who said it, not you." Once more, Wei Ying sputtered, looking at this man in absolute disbelief. But the man in question only raised his brow lightly, lips twitching into a faint smirk that was gone almost instantly.
All of it left Wei Ying flustered beyond belief. He had never been flirted with so shamelessly before!
Normally, he was the shameless one. So all he could do was clear his throat, take a sip of his glorious coffee, and introduce himself.
"I'm Wei Ying."
"Mn, it is a pleasure to meet you, Wei Ying. I am Lan Zhan."
And that is how two strangers met for the first time, kickstarting their future together.
For three months, Lan Zhan 'courted' Wei Ying. Which mostly meant he came over and cooked dinner while Wei Ying tended to the kids. It meant he stayed past their bedtime and talked with Wei Ying until the other passed out from exhaustion.
Lan Zhan would then carry him to the bedroom, and leave, making sure the door was locked.
It meant he would invite Wei Ying and the children out, happily helping with them and playing with them to give Wei Ying a brief moment to himself.
Eventually, it meant convincing Wei Ying to leave the children with Lan Zhan's brother or uncle so they could go on dates.
To say that he spoiled Wei Ying was an understatement. Their dates ranged from beautiful restaurants, to quiet picnics in the park, even to lavish in-home dates where Lan Zhan made a beautiful meal and the pair soaked in a bubble bath with candles for just a tad too long.
Wei Ying was head over heels.
When Lan Zhan officially asked him to be his boyfriend, he made it very clear that he wanted to be a part of the children's life. How could Wei Ying say no? He adored this man. The children loved him. They meshed so well together.
In less than a year, they were married. Wei Ying and the kids moved into Lan Zhan's beautiful home,
Wei Ying ended up putting in his two week notice only a month later when he learned he and Lan Zhan were expecting their first child together. Lan Zhan insisted he not work during his pregnancy. With his job, they would be fine.
Nine months later, they welcomed a little girl called YueHa to their family. And for once, life was truly perfect.

Xiantober 2023 - Day 2: Dragon!Xian
Word Count: 3,814 Pairing: Wangxian Tags: Immortal Dragon Wei Wuxian, Sacrifice Lan Wangji, Misunderstood dragon
“The sacrifice has been chosen.”
“Old man Lan isn’t going to like this.”
“He doesn’t have to like it. All of us suffer for this beast!”
“...Right you are.”
----------------------
“What?! Wangji? But why? I-” A pause.” I am older so I should be the sacrifice!” Lan Xichen looked at his uncle in disbelief. Of course, no one wanted to be sent to the beast, but he couldn’t stand the idea of his little brother dying at the hands of the old God.
“You know that is not how it works, Xichen.” Lan Qiren mumbled sullenly, his head hung low as his gaze remained unfocused on his tea. He knew it was a chance. Every family that had two or more children were always hit. But his nephews were well past the normal age of sacrifice.
He thought… He thought that they had lucked out. He thought that his nephews were safe. Of course he had been too hopeful.
“We can’t just let them take him, Shufu! We… We can’t… I don’t want to lose him…”
“I know.I do not want to either.”
----------------------
Lan Wangji watched his brother and uncle for a moment before he did something that the Lans never did. He stepped forward and pulled them both into a tight hug. “Everything will be okay.” He said softly.
There were tears and lasting embraces before Wangji finally stepped back and bowed to his family before beginning the trek up the winding mountain stairs.
It took almost the whole day for him to reach his goal.
The gorgeous mountain pass had almost made him forget about his impending death. He paused in front of the gorgeous moon gate, noting the delicate plants and twinkling chimes that decorated the entryway.
A soft mist gathered around the gate, swirling mystically as Lan Zhan stepped forward, chimes echoing around as he passed through the archway. As soon as he passed through, the thin air from the mountain top suddenly felt much more breathable, and instead of a mountain top, Lan Zhan found himself standing in a massive field with thick, luscious grass, and wild flowers speckled all throughout the field. The starlit sky was now bright and blue with a blazing sun high above.
In the far back of the field were dozens of trees, speckled across the horizon in a beautiful forest, but just in front of the trees was a beautiful cabin. He briefly wondered what it was for.
In the center, however, was the object of his concern.
Larger than any creature he had ever seen, coiled around itself like a snake, was a massive, black dragon that glittered with flecks of red in the brilliant sunlight. Red horns and a mane trailed along its back. The creature was absolutely stunning. Despite his massive size, the dragon seemed much smaller as he coiled around himself, head resting on top of his own body as he slept.
Lan Wangji remained frozen, watching it for several long moments, but the creature never stirred. So all he could do was sit patiently and wait for it to wake so he could fulfill his role as the sacrifice.
He waited for some time until his own tiredness won out. With arms folded across his chest and his head tipped forward, he fell into a deep sleep, somehow, he didn't feel in danger despite his circumstances.
----------------------
Lan Wangji woke when the sky had shifted from a beautiful blue, mid-day, to a shimmering array of blues and purples and pinks. Stars began to freckle the sky and he was sure that he had slept for several hours, though given the shift of time when he passed through the moon gate, he wasn't sure how time worked here.
But his main focus was not on the glittering sky or the fireflies that began to flicker around the field. No. His golden gaze was focused on the massive dragon laying in front of him. His head, easily the size of a horse drawn carriage, rested mere inches away from him.
Large, beautiful silver eyes watched him curiously, never once blinking for fear of missing a movement. The dragon was breathing very slowly, very carefully, as if to not blow the poor human away with his breath.
Somewhere far behind the dragon, there was a heavy sound of something dragging through the grass, and it wasn't hard to piece together that it was the dragon's tail, slowly sliding from side to side in a lazy fashion.
For a moment, Lan Wangji sat very still, his gaze locked on the large silver eyes.
This dragon… really was magnificent, and he was sure fearsome, but the only feeling the human was getting from him, was curiosity.
"...Hello. I… apologize for falling asleep. I did not wish to wake you." Lan Wangji wasn't sure if the old God could understand him or not. But he felt awkward having been asleep.
The dragon huffed a large puff of air through his nose, his two long, red whispers blew out, tickling either side of Lan Zhan.
Then, without warning, a voice emitted from the dragon. It was thunderous, yet somehow gentle at the same time. The timbre was lovely, but Lan Wangji could feel a sense of… resignation… Loneliness, in his voice.
"You did not run?"
"No. I was chosen, so I will fulfill my role."
The dragon lifted his head, easily towering over Lan Wangji.
"Surely, you do not wish to die."
"...I do not, but death comes for all of us. If my death keeps my family safe, then I will accept it without complaint."
The dragon hummed, standing up onto his feet before a bright light emitted from him, quickly followed by a gust of wind. Lan Wangji had to shield his eyes, but when he opened them, he was no longer face to face with the dragon. Instead, in front of him was the most beautiful man he had ever laid eyes on.
"I will allow you to leave." He said quietly, "but you will have no recollection of your life up to this point."
Confusion and shock flickered through Lan Wangji's golden gaze. "What?"
He took a few steps forward and crouched down in front of him. Lan Wangji could see the same, beautiful silver eyes with  dark slitted pupils. His tanned skin was freckled with black and gray scales reminiscent of his dragon form.
He truly was the same as the magnificent beast he saw.
"You will travel through the forest behind me until you reach the moon gate. When you pass through, you will have no memory of your life up to this point. But you will be alive and safe." He stood and turned to leave, but without thinking Lan Wangji grabbed his hand.
"Why would you just let me go? You demand these sacrifices and yet–"
"I demand nothing." The dragon said simply. "Many years ago, a mortal came to my realm and asked for me to aid in battle. I saw through his lies, painting himself and his people as victims, when in truth, they were the villains. So I destroyed their armies. As thanks, tributes were made to me. At first they were reasonable things, like food or money."
He frowned. "But eventually, they began to send humans. My existence began to warp to the humans of your world. They pray to me for protection, and offer me humans as sacrifice, I do not require any such thing. But I also do not align with any one kingdom in the mortal realm. I protect who is deserving of it."
"Then why not tell the humans?! Why accept the sacrifices and then make us lose our memories?"
"I have tried, but they still believe that I will change sides unless they provide sacrifices." He sighed. "Once a mortal passes through the moon gate, they cannot return to the mortal realm without sacrificing something. It signifies birth and renewal. The birth of a new life, in this case." He pulled his hand free.
"So go… you are free to leave."
"...and what will happen if I do not leave?"
"Then you stay here. Just as you are. But what kind of life would that be? A life of solitude is not one I would wish on anyone."
"...do you live a life of solitude?"
He glanced over his shoulder at him before he turned away again. "The path to the second moon gate is straight through those woods. You should go."
The dragon shifted once more, returning to his massive form before he took off to the skies.
Lan Wangji watched him go before he hesitantly stood and headed towards the woods.
It took him an hour of walking before he found the gate in question, yet, he could not bring himself to walk through.
He did not wish to forget his family, but also, he would be lying if he said the dragon did not ignite a curiosity inside of him…. So he turned around and returned to that field, stopping at the cabin near the forest. He could see smoke coming from its chimney, and he wondered if the dragon lived here.
A quick peek through the window confirmed his suspicion and he decided to leave him be for now, making his own make-shift shelter nearby.
The next morning, the dragon exited his home to find Lan Wangji nearby, and his silver eyes widened. "You are still here?"
"Yes. I do not wish to lose my memories."
"..." the dragon watched him for a moment, never before had a sacrifice chosen to stay. But he would not get his hopes up. He was sure the man would leave shortly. So for now, he invited him into his home.
Lab Wangji learned that the dragon's name was Wei Ying, and he learned that he was very good at hiding who he was.
He spoke distantly, as if trying to keep a wall between them, but when he wasn't careful, glimmers of his true self would slip through.
He got excited when he learned about things from the human world. He grew angry when he learned of wars, no matter how distant.
He spoke fondly of humans, but there was always a twinge of sadness.
With his makeshift home forgotten, Lan Wangji began to live with the dragon. Slowly, he chipped away at that wall, each day growing a little closer to the creature.
He was lonely.
Thousands of years he was confined to this realm, only permitted to leave by the other Gods when he received enough prayers. A punishment for the war he aided in, some several thousand years ago. The war that started the offerings.
When you finally got him talking, Wei Ying really never stopped. He talked about his realm, his cottage, his garden. Oh he was so very proud of his garden. He talked about the humans he has met in the past, he talked about his skills and abilities. He talked about flying, and how feeling the wind in his mane is the most wonderful feeling in the world.
Lan Zhan found himself enchanted by the dragon. The beautiful, lonely dragon, who is surprised to see Lan Zhan there every morning. He loves to listen to him speak, to hear him describe his centuries of life, or to ramble about his plethora of knowledge.
But most of all, Lan Zhan loves when the dragon smiles. Or when he laughs. Both make Lan Zhan feel lost in a sea of adoration.
----------------------
By his calculations, he has been in the dragon's realm for three months now, and every morning, he hides a smile as Wei Ying gets excited when he sees Lan Zhan has once again, not left the realm.
The look of surprise that is quickly replaced by a soft happiness and a barely concealed giddiness is what makes Lan Zhan feel weak in the knees.
Lan Zhan takes to making their food for them, delighting in the way his dragon preens and praises his cooking.
There was even a day where Lan Zhan sat there with a brush and brushed out every inch of the dragon's magnificent red mane.
As more time began to pass, the dragon and the human began to grow closer together, relishing in each other's company.
They spent most nights laying in the field, watching the stars as Wei Ying stayed curled up around Lan Zhan, allowing the human to lay comfortably on him.
The more comfortable the dragon became, the more Lan Zhan realized… he was falling in love with him. With his smile, with his laugh, with the adorable little pout he got when Lan Zhan scolded him for talking while eating.
Lan Zhan got to see a side of him that he was certain no one had ever seen before.
There were times he would wake in the middle of the night and find his companion missing from their shared room, and when he would go look for him, he would find him dancing amongst the fireflies, or singing under the stars.
One time, when the human caught him dancing, Wei Ying pulled him into the field with him, spinning around with him and laughing as they swayed to a music that no one but them could hear.
Then one day, Wei Ying seemed to change. He became quiet and distant. Lan Zhan wasn’t sure what was wrong.
He fed the dragon his favorite food, making sure to add extra spice. He warmed him a bath, offered to brush his mane, tried to coax him for a walk… But Wei Ying denied all of it.
Wei Ying even went to bed before Lan Zhan did. In the morning, Wei Ying was nowhere to be seen.
Lan Zhan searched the forest behind their now-shared cabin for hours, he kept his eyes on the sky, hoping to find his sweet dragon, but he saw no sign of him. It wasn’t until much later in the evening when he finally found him.
Wei Ying was sitting against the wall beside the moon gate that Lan Zhan had originally entered through. His dark robes had blended into the deep green foliage around the gate, but he rested against the wall with his eyes closed. He looked… sad.
Lan Zhan didn’t know what was troubling his dragon, but he wanted so badly to take away whatever pain he was feeling. “Wei Ying…” His voice was full of relief upon seeing him. “I have been searching for you, what are you doing over here?”
Slowly, the dragon opened his eyes, letting the silver orbs rest on the human for a moment before he stood. “I was waiting for you.”
“Waiting for me? Here?”
“Yes.” He closed the distance between them, stopping a mere few inches from the human. “Lan Zhan,” He asked gently. “Do you know how long you’ve been here?”
“I… do not.” He shook his head.
“Almost a year now.” Wei Ying said lightly, and Lan Zhan was struck by the realization.
“Has it really been that long?”
“...It has.” He nodded before carefully taking Lan Zhan’s hand and pressing something small and cool into his palm.
“This is for you, Lan Zhan.” His gaze remained on Lan Zhan’s, but it wasn’t hard to hear the way his voice echoed with something that the human hadn’t heard from him in some time.
He was sad.
He was lonely.
Wei Ying pulled away from Lan Zhan and stepped around him, walking back towards the cabin before he paused and turned back to face the human.
Lan Zhan whirled around to face his dragon, confusion in his gaze before he looked down at what was given to him.
In the palm of his hand was a small jade token with an elaborate carving of a dragon. He closed his fist around the cool stone and looked back at Wei Ying, clearly confused. “What is this for?”
“That token will allow you to pass through the gate behind you. The one you came through. Unlike the gate in the forest, no one can pass through it once they enter my realm. Unless they have that jade token.” He gestured lightly to his hand. “You can return home, Lan Zhan.”
“Return… home…?”
“Yes. You can see your family. You can tell them I do not require nor want any more sacrifices.” He gave him a smile, but it was not the smile he had come to love. It was small and full of sorrow. “I know your family will be excited to see you. You should go. I believe it is early morning on the other side of the gate.” He urged gently before turning, his body shifting into his long, serpent like form before he took off towards the sky, not giving Lan Zhan a chance to ask any further questions.
For a moment, all Lan Zhan could do was stand there. He watched as his dragon flew off, weaving slowly through the air. His golden gaze landed on the token once more before he frowned. Why was Wei Ying so sad?
He shook his head and hurried through the gate. He had a lot he needed to do.
----------------------
Lan Zhan’s return to the village was… unexpected. The confusion and surprise that etched itself into everyone’s expressions was somewhat comical.
“You’re alive!”
“The beast didn’t eat you?”
“Have you slain the creature?!”
“Was he dissatisfied with our pick?”
“What sort of hell will he unleash upon us?!”
The accusations and slander itched at Lan Zhan’s nerves, irritating him more than he had ever felt before. How dare they think that Wei Ying would harm anyone! “He is no beast.” He said flatly. “He has no intention of harming anyone here. But he does not want any more sacrifice.”
“What?”
“He does not want you sending any more of your family to him to appease him. If you want to appease him, send him food or wine. But he said he does not even need those. So please,
no more sending your family to him.”
Confusion swept over the crowd, but the people were quickly ushered aside as two figures hurried forward.
“Wangji!”
“Did!!”
Lan Zhan’s features relaxed and he stepped forward to meet his uncle and his brother, hugging them both tightly as he had the day he left.
Lan Qiren hurriedly ushered his nephew back home, setting him down with tea. “You’re home.. Oh thank the heavens.”
“Wanji, we have missed you so much, we thought… We thought we would never see you again.”
“Mn. I have missed you both as well.” He nodded lightly. “But, I am not here for long.”
“...What?”
“I came to visit, and to get some things, but I need to return to Wei Ying.”
“Wei Ying?”
“Yes… Wuxian the dragon.”
“... You are returning to him?”
“Yes. He has been upset the past few days, and I am not certain why, so I wish to bring some things to him.”
“Wangji, but… you’re… you’ve been returned to us, why would you go back to him?” Lan Qiren frowned, not understanding what his nephew was thinking.
Yet, Xichen seemed to understand. “...Will you return to visit again?”
“Mn. I believe so. Wei Ying did not explain how my token works fully, but I do not think it is a one time use. So I will try to visit once a month moving forward.”
Xichen nodded and gently squeezed his brother’s shoulder. “I am happy for you, didi. You seem happy.”
“I am. Wei Ying makes me very happy.”
Qiren glanced between the brothers, still unsure, but the relief that his nephew was alive and well sated him for now, as well as the promise of future visits.
For the night, Lan Zhan stayed with his family, telling them all about Wei Ying. Then in the morning, he gathered some supplies and made his way back up the mountain.
Stepping through the moon gate this time was as surreal as the first time he had done it. The dark evening sky shifted to the clear blue of early day and the luscious field welcomed him with a gentle breeze.
His gaze scanned the field until he found the large, coiled figure he was searching for. Sound asleep in the sun just as he had been the first time he arrived. How nostalgic.
He heard the gentle chimes from behind him, signifying someone had entered the realm, but the dragon did not stir.
Deciding he should let him sleep, Lan Zhan made his way to their cabin and set his belongings down before he began to prepare Wei Ying’s meal for when he awoke.
When his dragon did not come in by the time the food was done, Lan Zhan went to fetch him, stopping just a few feet in front of him, still sound asleep.
The human took a moment to admire his dragon. His large, imposing form that looked so small when curled up like this, yet still larger than a house. His glittering scales, and magnificent mane. He really was stunning in all forms.
Carefully, he stepped forward and pressed his hand to Wei Ying’s snout. “Wei Ying, it is time to wake up.”
The dragon stirred lightly, shifting in his sleep until his eyes opened slowly, pupils dilating slightly as his vision came into focus.
“Lan Zhan?”
“Mn. It is time to wake, sleepy head.”
“You… came back?”
“Of course. I only went to see my uncle and brother. I also brought a few things for you, but  I can tell you about my visit later, come, it is time to eat.” His hand stroked gently over the creature’s large snout.
For a moment, the dragon was silent, simply watching him before he pressed forward lightly, pressing his snout against the human, nuzzling him gently before he shifted back, his arms wrapping around Lan Zhan tightly.
“...Wei Ying?” He frowned, carefully wrapping his arms around his dragon’s human form, holding him close.
“You came back.” He said much softer this time. Lan Zhan finally understood.
Oh.
That was why he had been upset. He expected Lan Zhan to leave and never return.
He gave him a precious token to make the decision for himself. To decide if he wanted to leave. Wei Ying thought he would be alone again.
His hold tightened around Wei Ying and he nuzzled his face into that soft, black hair of his. “Mn. Will always return to Wei Ying.”
He heard the dragon’s breath hitch before he pulled back slightly, looking at Lan Zhan cautiously, his gaze searching for something.
Thankfully, this time, Lan Zhan understood, and without a word, he closed the gap between them, pulling the dragon into a soft, loving kiss.
Their first of many to come.
From now on, dragon nor human would ever be alone again.

Xiantober 2023 - Day 10: FanArtist!Xian
Word Count: 721  Pairing: Wangxian Tags: Fan Artist Wei Ying, Voice actor Lan Zhan
Wei Ying sat back in disbelief as he stared as his email.
There was no way.
This had to be fake, right???
His heart wouldn't stop hammering in his chest as he read over the email again and again.
Hello Yilling_Patriarch, I apologize for emailing you out of the blue, especially when your commissions are closed, but I just had to reach out. I am an absolute fan of your work, and given your work, I know you are a fan of mine. I was hoping to personally commission you for several large scale projects for some of the characters I voice. If this is something that interests you, please let me know. We can talk more in detail if you decide you're interested in working with me. Sincerely, Hanguang-Jun
Wei Ying would be lying if he said he wasn't going absolutely feral over this email. The Hanguang-Jun wanted to commission him! Like, actually commission him!
For years, Wei Ying had been a fan of the animation industry. He loved animation from all over the world. But for the past few years, one particular voice actor had caught his attention. He rarely spoke long periods at a time, but his lines were so raw, so full of emotion, so impactful.
And that *voice!*
Most of Wei Ying's personal art projects over the last few years have been of the characters that Hanguang-Jun voiced! He had no idea he had captured the voice actors attention!
He was beyond stoked and so excited.
So of course he had to accept the offer!
There were several emails exchanged between the two, discussing all the art that Hanguang-Jun wanted to commission from him for some upcoming conventions and events. It was an overall straightforward and professional exchange, but Wei Ying couldn't help but fanboy a few times, not that the other seemed to mind.
Eventually, their correspondences moved from email to discord in a private DM where Wei Ying was happy to share progress of his art. Their chatting became more frequent, and Wei Ying wasn't entirely sure when they began talking so casually with one another. It had happened so naturally…
[Hanguang-Jun:] Wei Ying, I know this might be an odd request… [Hanguang-Jun:] but, I will be in your town this weekend for a meeting with a family friend… would you be interested in getting coffee together? I apologize if this seems unprofessional.
Wei Ying was certain he flatlined right then and there. Was… was Lan Zhan (of course they already shared their names) asking him on a date?!
'No. No it was just coffee! Don't get ahead of yourself, Wei Ying'
[Yiling_Patriarch] Absolutely! I'd love that! [Hanguang-Jun:] Perfect, it's a date then
Wei Ying stopped functioning for a good hour after that.
Of course, the date, which is precisely what it was, went off without a hitch. Or… okay, there were many hitches, like Wei Ying forgetting how to talk, or tripping and falling right into those big, strong arms, or even the fact that Wei Ying was so jittery his knees hit the table at least three times!
But through all of it, Lan Zhan just made sure he was okay while giving him the softest expression. They talked about their careers, their home life, their likes and dislikes. It was so natural, so warm, and once the nerves finally went away, it was everything someone could hope for on a first date.
The second, the third, and the fourth date were just as magical, and Lan Zhan got to the the work Wei Ying was doing for him personally after being pulled into his apartment and kissing senselessly until they passed out between the sheets after getting to know each other on a much more intimate level.
Wei Ying had learned the next day that having Lan Zhan around while he worked was very distracting. All those kisses and massages meant he got almost no work done.
So one can only imagine how bad it was once they moved in together a few short months later~
Lan Zhan of course continued his voice acting career, and Wei Ying became his personal fan-artist. Always paid for his work despite Wei Ying saying it wasn't needed.
Who knew such a happy ending would come from such a simple email?
Certainly not these two.

Xiantober 2023 - Day 8: Head Disciple!Xian
Word Count: 840  Pairing: Wangxian Tags: Lan Clan Wei Ying, competitive Wangxian, Lan Zhan not knowing how to handle his crush, wingman Xichen
Wei Ying rocked back and forth on his feet, his hands folded neatly behind his back as he waited with hidden interest for the results to be announced.
For the past three months, disciples had been working their asses off to prove themselves. They went on night hunts, tripled down on assignments, and busted their asses to show their shizuns that they were worthy of being more than just a normal disciple.
It was a stupid competition that the Lan clan had implemented some years ago after someone complained of favoritism. Each year, for three months, the disciples would go above and beyond. In the end, one disciple was chosen and marked as the head disciple for the remainder of the year. Ever since he was brought back to Gusu at the tender age of six, he always worked hard to prove himself to Lan Qiren. But he was still too much of a rule breaker to ever be considered one of the head disciples.
Once these ‘games’ started around the time Wei Ying turned ten, he decided he had no desire to participate, and only continued to do things as he always had. Sure, Lan Qiren often scolded him, but behind closed doors he was just as doting on him as he was with A-Zhan or Huan-gege.
So really, what reason did he have to participate.
That is, until Wei Ying turned 15, and he noticed that his favorite person in the world, A-Zhan, was acting differently with him. He often avoided him, often told him that he did not have time to ‘play’, or he would just fix Wei Ying with the same glare he always had.
This absolutely would not fly.
So he consulted the ever knowledgeable Huan-gege.
“Wangji has been the head disciple for several years now,” He reminded Wei Ying with a warm, knowing smile. One that told Wei Ying that the older boy knew more than he was letting on. “He is very busy, you know… and, I hear that Wangji is also… looking for a possible future partner. But no one seems to be able to stand up to par with his skills.”
“...What?” Wei Ying asked in disbelief. “A… a future partner?! A-Zhan?! My ZhanZhan?”
“Mhm. But of course, only those who are also head disciple material would be worthy of the second Jade, don’t you agree, A-Ying?”
“W-well, of course!”
Now, Lans were not supposed to gossip, but this truly was a dire situation, so Lan Xichen made an exception. He knew the real reason for Wangji avoiding Wei Ying, so he needed to rectify it.
He spread that very rumor around the young disciples. It needed to be believable for it to work. So when Wei Ying heard his fellow disciples talking about gunning for the top spot to prove themselves to the second young master, it got under Wei Ying’s skin and he had offhandedly commented to someone that he was planning on taking the games seriously this year, to which Wei Ying was met with laughter.
“Wei Wuxian, you’re not head disciple material! Besides, this year is important, so just sit this one out like always.”
Irritation bubbled under his skin, and Wei Ying took the bait.
No one was worthy of his ZhanZhan. And how dare they suggest that Wei Ying couldn’t do something!
A smug smile settled onto Wei Ying’s lips as the results were finally read.
First place in the mini tournament was Wei Wuxian, stunning everyone in the clan. Second place was Lan Wangji.
Wei Ying sidled up over to his runner-up and bumped shoulders with him, grinning ear to ear. “Say, Lan Zhan~ looks like we’re going to be working a lot together this year, but my score was ahead of yours! So that means you have to listen to me too~”
Lan Zhan’s ears burned a deep red and he glared at Wei Ying.
This was not how this was supposed to go! Lan Zhan wanted to maintain head disciple to impress Wei Ying! Perhaps this meant he would have to try harder next year. And he would secretly hold these moments of forced connection dear to his heart.
Unfortunately for Lan Xichen, who had orchestrated this whole plan to get his pining brother together with his beloved A-Ying, he had to watch for three more years as the two love-struck idiots went back and forth between who was head disciple, each year pushing themselves harder to impress the other until their emotions finally came to a head.
He signed in relief as Wei Ying finally dropped out of the running, happy enough to return to his state of goofing off and putting in just enough effort so that Lan Qiren didn’t Qi deviate after he learned that Lan Zhan preferred silly, goofy Wei Ying.
Though the rest of the clan was certainly not pleased as the two 18 year olds had a bad habit of keeping everyone up into the wee hours of the night after their feelings were finally known.

Xiantober 2023 - Day 7: Biker!Xian
Word Count: 957 Pairing: Wangxian Tags: Biker Wei Ying, Bunny keeper Lan Zhan
The rev of his bike gave Wei Ying the greatest feeling in the world. It stood for so much. For an escape, for speed, for freedom. There was nothing he loved more than hitting the long winding roads leading out of the city in the middle of the night, enjoying the way the wind whipped around him.
A way to just get away from his life, from his problems.
Tonight was one such night. Riding through the dark, barely lit streets that he knew like the back of his hand. It was liberating. It was home.
He had gotten in trouble at work again, and he just wanted to get away. So, as soon as he had the chance, he hopped on his bike and drove out of the city. Was he going a little too fast?
Yes.
Was he prepared for someone to be counting in the middle of the street in the middle of nowhere?
No.
So when his headlight reflected off of the pure white and pale blue of someone’s clothes in the middle of the street, Wei Ying had to slam on the breaks, his bike swerving off of the road and into the bushes. With the impact, Wei Ying flew over the handlebars and straight into a thick, dense pile of underbrush.
The man from the road stood quickly, holding something small in his hands ands he hurried over. “Are you okay?!”
“Am I okay?! What the hell were you doing in the middle of the road, in the middle of the night?!” Wei Ying sat up, completely covered in twigs and leaves. He had lucked out, that was for sure. He could have ended up with broken bones or worse. Thankfully he just had a sore shoulder.
“I am so sorry. My rabbit got out of his hutch and I was chasing him. I had just managed to grab him when you showed up.” The man explained, carefully lifting the small white bundle of fluff in his arms.
Wei Ying wanted to scold him, but he couldn’t really blame him. He himself would have done the same if he had a pet. So instead, he just sighed and pulled his helmet off, letting his messy hair fall into place as he finally looked up at the man.
Gorgeous dark hair, shimmering golden eyes, perfect, jade skin. He was stunning.
“Are you certain you’re alright?” He asked once more when Wei Ying didn’t answer, holding his rabbit a little closer.
He sighed before nodding and rubbing the back of his head. “Yeah… I’m fine…” He forced himself up and shifted over to grab his bike, making sure the vehicle was okay and undamaged. “It was partially my fault anyways, I shouldn’t have been speeding.” His shoulders sagged in relief when he saw his motorcycle was unharmed.
“Still, please allow me to make it up to you. My home is not far from here, you can come for a cup of tea? I’m sure that accident rattled your nerves, and you can make sure you have no injuries.”
Wei Ying was about to decline, but something told him he should agree, so he did.
The man, Lan Zhan, as Wei Ying learned his name to be, led him back to his home not far from the road. It was a cozy little thing surrounded by woods with a large fenced-in area that was for a few fuzz balls.
Lan Zhan explained that he had moved out here after inheriting the home from his late mother, and the large yard that came with it was perfect for raising rabbits, which he was quite fond of. Wei Ying had never been overly fond of the little fuzz balls, but after seeing the way Lan Zhan interacted with them, he decided they were quite cute.
Or maybe it was Lan Zhan, but he wasn’t going to admit that yet.
He was served tea and Lan Zhan insisted he removed his jacket so he could check for any injuries, and Wei Ying couldn’t deny that those strong, careful fingers gliding over his arms and back felt nice.
Though the lingering touches were gone far too soon as Lan Zhan deemed him clear of any physical, external injuries.
The pair sat for several hours, talking about everything and anything as the time ticked by without either noticing. They lost themselves in each other’s company, learning about one another as if that was the only thing that mattered.
Wei Ying had been reluctant to leave that night, but he promised to visit soon.
And he did.
Every weekend he would drive his motorcycle to that cozy house in the middle of nowhere and sit with Lan Zhan for hours.
Every weekend turned to every other day, and every other day turned into Wei Ying staying there more often than not.
When Lan Zhan was comfortable enough, Wei Ying took him for a drive on his bike and he loved the way Lan Zhan took to the feeling of the wind in his hair, though he very quietly reminded Wei Ying to be careful.
Eventually, Wei Ying’s riding became minimal. He no longer needed an escape from the hellish life of the city as he moved in with Lan Zhan, spending most days curled up against Lan Zhan’s broad chest or working as a free-lance coder from the cozy comfort of their middle-of-nowhere home.
They still took rides occasionally, but they were much less stress-relief and more for the joy of the moment.
Wei Ying knew he would be forever grateful for that late night ride through those winding roads where he nearly crashed into the most gorgeous man in the world.
They still laugh about it to this day.

Xiantober 2023 - Day 5: InnKeeper!Xian
Word Count: 1,149 Pairing: Wangxian Tags: InnKeeper Wei Ying, Prince Lan Zhan, meet-cute, flirty Lan Zhan
A soft sigh left Wei Ying's lips as he cleaned down the bar for the fiftieth time that night.
Normally, Suibian Inn and Tavern was loaded with patrons, bustling with traveling merchants, and crowded with gossiping travelers. It was what he loved the most about running the place. He loved the hustle and bustle, the steady flow of rumors, gossip, and cash.
But for the past three days, the whole town had virtually deserted, and there was no chance of anyone coming through for a few more days at least.
Apparently, some big shot prince was having a grand party to find a bride. Pah! Who needs a party to find a bride?! The whole continent was pretty much invited, commoners included, so everyone hightailed it for a chance at the crown.
Wei Ying had no desire to go.
So when the bell rang as the door was pushed open, Wei Ying nearly let out a surprised scream. Thankfully, he refrained, maintaining what little dignity he had.
He did jump though, but no one was witness to see it, so it never happened.
Silver eyes watched as the cloaked figure made their way into the tavern. "Welcome to Suibian Inn and Tavern. You're quite a ways away from the festivities, yeah? I don't think you'll make it."
"Oh, no... I'm trying to avoid them." The stranger admitted, removing his hood.
The glass in Wei Ying's hands hit the ground with a violent sound, shattering into hundreds of pieces and causing both to jump.
"Ah, shit, that was my favorite glass.. hng, damn butterfingers." He scoffed, moving to grab the broom.
Who knew seeing someone so stunning would cause such a problem? He had not been prepared for such beauty!!
"Avoiding the ball, huh? That's odd. Didn't everyone wanna go?"
"You're here."
"I have a business to run." He countered. "Besides. The prince is looking for a bride."
He hummed. "Not some bar keep."
"Was the party not extended to everyone?"
"Oh, it was, but let's be real. What prince is gonna pick a  peasant. It's all just a formality. So I'm fine staying here. Besides! I'm pretty sure I'm the only Inn open for miles."
"Mm, I've passed several, they are all closed."
Wei Ying grinned and finished cleaning up the glass. "So tell me, gorgeous, what can I get for you? An ale? A hot meal? A room? Maybe me?" He winked.
"Sounds like a rare house special. How much for all four?" He countered.
For a moment, the innkeeper was stunned. No one ever took his flirting seriously!!! And for someone to be /this/ good looking?!
Wei Ying eyed him suspiciously. "You're not some crazy murderer, yeah? That why you're avoiding the capital?"
Surprise colored the man's face before he huffed a soft laugh. "No, not at all, I assure you."
"Oh, assure me, do you?" He grinned. "Alright. Three silvers and you can have a drink, a room, and a meal~ that fourth option you gotta work a little harder for. Can't just be cute."
"You think I'm cute?" The man questioned, raising a brow with the faintest hint of a smirk and Wei Ying felt his knees go weak.
He sputtered wildly and flicked his rag in the attractive patron's direction. "Aren't you cheeky~?"
He turned and grabbed a wooden pint mug, but before he could fill it, the man cleared his throat a little. "On second hand.... can I just have some water?"
Wei Ying popped his hip and cocked a brow. "What? Why water? I've got all the best alcohols in the land!" He grinned.
"I even have the best of the best, emperor's smile~ all the way from the capital."
"I... do not handle alcohol well."
Wei Ying blinked at him a few dozen times before he threw his head back and laughed. "Oh, you're cute! Alright. I'll be nice. Water it is."
"I would rather remember my night if I get to spend it chatting with someone so lovely."
Once more, Wei Ying was left sputtering as he slammed the mug of water down and busied himself working. "Alright, charmer, what'll you have to eat?"
"I am guessing you are not on the menu?"
Wei Ying all but tripped over his feet and looked at him with a flushed face. "I... you.... I walked into that." He cleared his throat and gestured to the menu. "So... what's your name, charmer?"
"You can call me A-Zhan.""
"Well, A-Zhan~ you can call me Wei Ying. You lemme know what you'd like to eat and I'll whip it up."
He nodded and did just that.
Wei Ying disappeared into the back to prep the meal and when he realized he was getting no conversation out of the other while he ate, so he busied himself with cleaning the already spotless tavern.
After, the two found themselves sitting side by side, Wei Ying telling A-Zhan all about the beautiful places he had been to in the kingdom before he settled here with his tavern.
"Sounds like you're quite the adventurer."
"Perhaps! But what about you?"
"I do not get out much, sadly. Though... I am forever grateful I decided to come here tonight~"
Wei Ying cleared his throat before he stood and made his way to the front door. He locked up and slipped over to a board behind the bar and grabbed a metal key.
A-Zhan watched him curiously, but when Wei Ying moved to the steps and tipped his head, he followed eagerly.
The pair made it to the bedroom and Wei Ying barely had time to unlock the door before he was pressed to the smooth wood.
The sound of the door slamming shut was certainly not the last sound heard echoing through the quiet inn that night.
The next morning, the pair lay in one another's arms, sharing lazy kisses as Wei Ying snuggled up to the perfectly sculpted chest.
"So, A-Zhan..."
"Mn?"
"How are you going to explain to the kingdom that you ditched your own bridal ball~?"
His eyes widened in disbelief. "Wh-what? How did you--"
Wei Ying laughed, his eyes shimmering in delight. "Everyone knows our Prince's name is Lan Zhan,
and your cloak has the royal insignia on it."
The prince's ears went red and he frowned. "I apologize, I did not mean to deceive you--"
"Hush." Wei Ying kissed him sweetly. "I'm not mad, but I am curious how you're gonna get out of trouble for this~"
"I will simply tell them I was with my bride all night~" He grinned lightly, rolling so he was on top of Wei Ying
once more.
The room quickly filled with giggles and soon after, moans as the prince and the innkeeper enjoyed each other's company.
When wedding bells chimed no more than four months later, the kingdom was in shock to see the chatty innkeeper at his side~

Xiantober 2023 - Day 3: XianXian Parents
Word Count: 558 Pairing: Wangxian Tags: Meet the parents, teen wangxian
"Wei Ying," Lan Zhan cleared his throat lightly as he fidgeted with his clothes. "What if they do not like me?"
Silver eyes blinked rapidly at him several times in utter disbelief. "What?! Not like you? But Lan Zhan, what's not to like! I promise! They're gonna love you! You even got all dressed up!"
"Mn... I am meeting your parents, I want to look my best." Which was saying something, since the 17 year old always looked his best. Lans were very well known for their pristine attire, after all.
Wei Ying couldn't help but cackle a little. "Lan Zhan, you'll be fine. Just be yourself. I love you, so I know they will love you." He grabbed his boyfriend's hand and pulled him into the house. "Mama! Baba! I'm home! I brought Lan Zhan like you asked!"
The sweet smell of food hit them instantly and Wei Ying's stomach growled, but neither had time to worry themselves over it as a loud hasp was heard, and Cangse Sanren came hurrying over, her boundless energy instantly reminded Lan Zhan of his perfect boyfriend.
"Ooooh! Qīn’ài de! Hurry, hurry! He's here!" She called over her shoulder before looking at Wei Ying with a loving warmth before pulling him into a hug. "Welcome home, baobei! And you must be Lan Zhan?" She turned her attention to the rather anxious looking teen who was trying to mask it with a neutral expression.
"Yes, ma'am. Thank you for having me. I brought these for you." He held up a small bouquet of three mixed colored roses.
Her eyes lit up and she smiled, gently taking them from him. "Oh, they're lovely! Thank you, A-Zhan!" Without warning, she pulled him into a hug, doing her best not to giggle at how stiff he became. (She remembered the first time she forcefully hugged Lan Qiren, who she only recently learned was related to this dear boy.)
"Thank you for taking such good care of our YingYing. He talks nonstop about you~" she released him, delighting in how red the poor boy's ears were.
"Darling, don't suffocate him yet, he just walked in the door." Wei Changze stepped around the corner and ruffled his son's hair before he held his hand out, briefly sharing a firm handshake with Lan Zhan.
"It's nice to meet you."
"You as well, sir. Thank you for having me."
"Oooh, he's so polite~ come, come! Dinner is just about done. We can all sit at the kitchen table while it finishes."
She easily dragged the teenage boys inside, and Wei Ying couldn't help but grin at his boyfriend. He knew his parents would love him!
The dinner went off without a hitch, and Sanren eased Lan Zhan into talking quite a bit before and after the meal. She respected that he didn't speak during their meals, so instead, she shared all her favorite baby stories about Wei Ying, which flustered her son to no end.
It was a nerve-wracking experience, but it was easily one of the best nights Lan Zhan and Wei Ying had. It was full of acceptance and love and laughter. Neither could have hoped for the night to go any better.
And if Changze teased Wei Ying after he saw Lan Zhan kiss him goodnight, well, what else is a loving father supposed to do?

Xiantober 2023 - Day 4: Ghost!Xian
Word Count: 5,064 Pairing: Wangxian Tags: Ghost Wei Ying, Major character death (kinda? He's a ghost), altered characters ages, murder, death
"Wei Ying is dead."
The news devastated the town. Another life gone, and far too soon. His parents wept and the town mourned the loss of such a charismatic young boy.
Wei Ying died at the age of 10, murdered by the hands of some cruel person and left in the middle of the park to be found. He was the latest of a string of murders in the town, the youngest by far, since most victims had been young women in their 20s.
Wei Ying was also the last of the victims in the town.
It was a weird experience, attending your own funeral.
Wei Ying stood beside the grave, watching as the casket was lowered into the ground. He glanced around at his friends and family, saw their tears and their grief. Anger bubbled inside of his transparent chest.
Then, by chance, he made eye contact. The young Lan boy from down the street who Wei Ying had desperately tried to befriend, but he was always too shy and ran away, always avoiding A-Ying.
Yet right here, right now, surrounded by the people he loved most who couldn't see him,
this young boy was looking directly at him with wide eyes.
Wei Ying lifted his hand hesitantly and waved.
Lan Zhan's gaze flicked to his hand, then back to him, and just as hesitantly, he gave a little wave back.
And that was the start of Wei Ying's new life.
Or rather, life in death.
He attached himself to Lan Zhan, following him around constantly.
At first, Wei Ying didn't have enough energy to talk to Lan Zhan, or to touch the living world, he was just there.
And truth be told, it drove Wei Ying up a wall.
He wanted to talk to Lan Zhan so badly, but for once in his life, he had to shut his mouth and all he could do was listen. So he did.
He followed Lan Zhan around constantly, sitting with him as he did his school work, rolling around in the air as the Lans sat silently for meals. Occasionally, Lan Zhan would write questions down in his notebook and let Wei Ying point to letters to spell out answers. It wasn't the most efficient, but it kept Wei Ying from going crazy.
Then, one night, almost a year after Wei Ying's passing, a massive thunderstorm hit.
With each roaring crack of thunder, the house shook, and Lan Zhan huddled under his covers, terrified.
Wei Ying felt powerless, he wanted nothing more than to help his new friend. Without thinking, he reached out and touched Lan Zhan's hand, both boys startled when they felt contact.
That;s when they learned that the electricity from the storm helped give Wei Ying more corporeal form. He stayed beside Lan Zhan all night, holding his hand until he fell asleep.
For years, their friendship went on like this.
Lan Zhan remained the only one who could see Wei Ying and he never told anyone about him.
As Lan Zhan began to grow, so did Wei Ying.
By the time both boys were fifteen, Wei Ying had learned enough about his life after death to alter himself, aging right beside Lan Zhan, but he also learned how to manipulate his surroundings. He could touch Lan Zhan whenever he liked now, not just during storms, he could pick up light objects and move them short distances.
His favorite thing to touch was Lan Zhan's ribbon he always had braided into his hair.
By the time the boys turned 18, Wei Ying hand, unknowingly, learned to project his voice just enough for Lan Zhan to hear him.
To keep himself from going insane, Wei Ying often would prattle on about everything and nothing just to get things off his chest.
Today was one of those days.
"Lan Zhan, I'm so bored."
"Mn."
"I mean I'm glad you can see me but I miss talking! I can't remember the last time I've had a conversation that wasn't through pen and paper!" He whined, laying back in the air with his arms crossed behind his head.
"Mn, even when we were little, Wei Ying loved to talk." Lan Zhan answered nonchalantly.
"Exactly! I'm a social butterfly! I'm meant to talk and interact! And I mean, I'm totally cool with the fact you're the only one who can see me, but I wanna talk to you too!" He huffed "How am I supposed to tell you how handsome you look! Or that I don't like that Su She guy who keeps flirting with you at school! I'm so glad you graduated, but I doubt that's the last we'll see of him."
"I believe he is going to the same college as us."
He chose 'us' since Wei Ying always attended classes with Wei Ying and Wei Ying had helped pick out the college.
Wei Ying sat up abruptly. "See!! He's definitely stalking you! How can you... be so..." He paused, his gaze meeting the warm honey of Lan Zhan's.
"Lan Zhan...?"
"Mn?"
"Can... Can you hear me?"
"Mn."
Wei Ying's eyes widened before he darted around the room excitedly, knocking over several things in the process.
Lan Zhan didn't get a moment of silence for almost two weeks.
Then the boys turned 20.
Wei Ying and Lan Zhan had an... interesting relationship to say the least. Wei Ying was dead and Lan Zhan was the only one who could see and hear him. They were best friends.
It should have been the end of it.
But Wei Ying couldn't deny the jealousy he felt every time someone flirted with his Lan Zhan. When their touches would linger too long or when they would put themselves in Lan Zhan's path so he couldn't move on.
One such person was Su She. He had a weird obsession with Lan Zhan and Wei Ying hated it. He talked badly about him behind his back, but would always be extra touchy.
Today was one of his touchy days. His hands had gone to Lan Zhan's arms five times too many, and Wei Ying had enough. Without thinking, he kicked Su She in the back of the leg, making his legs buckle and he stumbled to the ground.
"Who--" He whipped around to see no one there and paled slightly, but quickly cleaned up his fallen books and hurried off.
Wei Ying took to doing this often. He'd pull his hair, push him, knock his things out of his hands, until Lan Zhan scolded him.
"Enough."
"What?" Wei Ying reeled back a little, he had never heard Lan Zhan talk so firmly to him.
"Stop harassing Su She."
Wei Ying tensed, his eyes narrowing. "No! He keeps harassing you."
"Just ignore him."
"Why? Do you like him or something?" He snapped.
"Wei Ying." He said firmly, not liking being accused of such a blasphemous thing.
Wei Ying's eyes widened before he glared at Lan Zhan. "Fine." He turned and took off down the hall, disappearing into one of the walls.
Lan Zhan sighed before he headed to his next class. The last thing he wanted Wei Ying to be classified as was a poltergeist. He wouldn't put it past Su She to try and have Wei Ying exorcized.
Unfortunately, this little misunderstanding led to their first fight.
For the first time in ten years, Wei Ying refused to go near Lan Zhan. He knew he was being childish, he knew he was blowing this up from nothing, but Wei Ying was hurt.
He knew the day would come when Lan Zhan found interest in someone... But did it have to be now? Did it have to be him?
Wei Ying wasn't sure what to do with himself, so he left.
He wandered aimlessly until he found himself at his own home.
His parents had long since moved, the memory of their son's murder weighed heavy on them. Wei Ying couldn't blame them, but he did miss them.
With a sigh, he flew off to the cemetery, settling down against his tombstone.
For almost two weeks, this went on.
Wei Ying avoided Lan Zhan constantly, refusing to return to Lan Zhan's home, refusing to go to the school. And when Lan Zhan came looking for him, he hid.
He realized if Lan Zhan was finally interested in dating, then he couldn't be around him anymore. It would hurt too much.
It was on the fifteenth day of avoiding Lan Zhan that Wei Ying was wandering the town when he felt a cold chill run down his spine, as if every part of his body wanted to dissipate into the ether.
He glanced around in confusion until his eyes landed on a man.
Wei Ying wasn't sure where he had seen him before, just just being near him made his ghostly body feel uneasy.  He didn't want to be near him, he didn't want to see him.
He needed to find Lan Zhan.
Without hesitating, he turned and hurried back to Lan Zhan's apartment.
When Wei Ying first got there, Lan Zhan was nowhere to be found, but he didn't want to risk missing him by going out to find him, so he waited.
It wasn't until well after midnight when Lan Zhan returned. He was exhausted, and Wei Ying could see how unwell he looked.
"Lan Zhan! You're home! I'm so sorry abou-- Lan Zhan are you okay?"
Lan Zhan heaved a sigh and moved further into his apartment before he sat on his couch, head in his hands.
"Hey! Lan Zhan, I said I'm sorry, don't ignore me, okay?"
But he got no response.
Panic filled the ghost and he tried to grab onto Lan Zhan's arm, but his hand phased through him.
No.
No! No! No!"
"Lan Zhan?! Lan Zhan, why can't I touch you anymore?!"
"Wei Ying..."
"Yes! You can still see me, right?!"
"Where did you run off too? It's been two weeks."
Wei Ying stilled, looking at his best friend, at the only person who could see him... used to see him, he was suddenly hit with the realization that if Lan Zhan couldn't see or hear him, then Wei Ying would truly be alone.
"...Is... is this my fault?"
Wei Ying sank onto the couch beside Lan Zhan, his heart and his mind heavy.
"Lan Zhan... I'm not ready to be alone yet." He said quietly, knowing that no reply would come.
"This is all my fault. If I had just listened to you.... if I had just stopped messing with him..."
Wei Ying's thoughts were cut off when Lan Zhan's cell phone rang, and he sighed, pulling it from his pocket.
"Yes?" Lan Zhan frowned. "Tomorrow? Ge, I really don't want to have a family dinner right now... a guest?"
Wei Ying watched Lan Zhan, a frown on his lips. Then, as if by some divine intervention, Wei Ying had an idea. He recalled the fight night he was able to touch Lan Zhan, and without thinking, he reached out and touched Lan Zhan's phone.
He felt the small zap of electricity, before Lan Zhan frowned.
"Ge, my phone is dying, I'll call you back tomorrow. Yes, I'll be at the dinner." He assured before hanging up and looking at his phone oddly. "I haven't used it all day."
Then he jumped when he felt a brush against his skin, looking over, half expecting Wei Ying, but saw nothing.
But it gave Wei Ying the information he needed. In an instant, he was running around the house, draining the power from all of Lan Zhan's electronics, not caring that he was causing the lights to flicker or the microwave to go off. He needed Lan Zhan to see him!
Lan Zhan, however, was mildly freaked out by the sudden happenings in his home. That is, until he caught sight of Wei Ying standing in front of the TV.
He was more faded than usual, but he was there!
"Wei Ying?"
The ghost paused, he looked over in shock before his eyes widened then promptly filled with tears. He hurried forward and crashed into Lan Zhan's chest, hugging him tightly. "L-lan Zhan!!!"
"Wei Ying?! Where have you been? I've been looking everywhere for you. Do you know how scared I was?"
Yet he wasted no time in hugging the other back. "Why are you so hard to see?"
"I don't know! I was so scared you'd never see me again!"
Lan Zhan frowned and hugged him close, glancing around at the electronics going haywire. "It's okay, Wei Ying. You are here. I am here."
The two stayed in their embrace for several long, needed minutes before Lan Zhan finally pulled back and cupped his face. "Wei Ying, I've been worried sick about you. Do you have any idea how long I've been looking for you?"
"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry, Lan Zhan." He whined, "For leaving, for messing with Su She, for being such a brat! I'm so sorry!"
Lan Zhan frowned, he had never seen the other breakdown like this, not even when he told him his parents moved away.
With a sigh, he pulled him close and hugged him once more.
"Everything's okay now. I'm not mad, so don't cry anymore, okay?"
Wei Ying only nuzzled into his shoulder and sniffled. "You came home and couldn't see me... or hear me... I thought... I thought that--"
"Shh.. it's okay... I can see you just fine now..." He assured.
"Is that why you were messing with my electronics?"
"Mhm."
"You did a good job, Wei Ying... maybe you were just out of energy." He supplied, carefully coaxing him to sit with him.
It took another hour for them to both truly calm down, and by then, Lan Zhan was exhausted.
It was already well past his bedtime, and he was so relieved for Wei Ying to be home that he passed out on the couch.
Wei Ying stayed pressed to his chest the whole night.
The next morning, Wei Ying told Lan Zhan about his week. About how he stayed at the cemetery, but most importantly, he told him about the man. About the feeling he got when he saw him.
Lan Zhan frowned, and for the first time since they met, he decided to ask Wei Ying a very personal question.
"Wei Ying... how did you die?"
"I-" He frowned. "I don't really remember?"
"You don't remember?"
"No... I remember going out to play," he glanced down at his hands. "I was exploring a part of the city I've never been to before. It was old and rundown. I--" He frowned, his body flickering lightly. "I remember hearing something weird... and then pain."
"There was so much pain." He shook his head and touched his throat. "I remember... crying... and... then I woke up and no one could see me or hear me. I found out that I was killed... and then at the funeral you saw me... but that's it."
Lan Zhan frowned.
"The news said you were murdered. It was a closed casket funeral. Your murderer was never found."
"Could... could the guy I saw be the guy who killed me?"
"...I am not sure. If you wish to look into it, we can pull up the articles on your death later."
Wei Ying nodded.
For now, they needed to go to Lan Zhan's uncle's home for dinner. Or at least, Lan Zhan did.  But Wei Ying had no intention of leaving Lan Zhan's side again.
So once he got cleaned up, they headed off to Lan Qiren's home.
When they arrived, Xichen greeted Lan Zhan warmly and led him inside.
"So, who is the guest you mentioned?"
"It is a few guests, actually. Do you remember the Wei family who lived down the street?"
Lan Zhan stopped. "...I do."
He nodded. "They've come to town to visit their son's grave."
He explained lightly. "Uncle invited them over. And an old acquaintance of theirs and uncles is here as well."
Lan Zhan nodded lightly and glanced at Wei Ying, wanting to make sure he was okay, but instead, he saw the ghost still standing in the entryway.
His eyes were wide, his body stiff. He refused to take a step.
Lan Zhan frowned and glanced at his brother. "Ge, I'll join you in the sitting room in a moment. I forgot something in the car."
"Of course."
He waited for his brother to leave before he went to Wei Ying.
"Wei Ying? Are you alright?" He asked softly, "If... if seeing your parents is--"
"It's not them." He shook his head. "He's here. The man I told you about. I can feel it. I... Lan Zhan, my whole body feels like static."
Lan Zhan frowned and gently took his hand. "Wei Ying, it is okay. I am here, he cannot hurt you again..."
"But he can hurt you. he can hurt your family... my parents. I... Lan Zhan if he... if he is the one who killed me--"
"Wangji!"
Lan Zhan glanced towards the living room and sighed. "Stay with me. Don't let go of me, okay?"
Wei Ying nodded.
"If it becomes too much, we'll leave." Family be damned. If this man really was the one who murdered Wei Ying like Lan Zhan suspected, then he wanted to find out who it was, find a way to prove he was guilty.
So into the room they went.
There, sitting at the table, was Lan Zhan's uncle and brother, Wei Changze and Cangse Sanren, and then a man that Lan Zhan did not know.
"Wangji, you remember the Wei’s, right?"
"Mn. It's a pleasure to see you both." He bowed politely to them and Cangse Sanren smiled warmly.
"Oh, you've grown so much since we last saw you." She spoke warmly, but Lan Zhan could see a tiredness in her eyes.
Lan Zhan gave her a faint smile before his uncle introduced their other guest. "I don't believe you've ever met before, Wangji, this is Wen Ruohan. He used to be a business partner of mine and the Wei's."
Wei Ying's gaze landed on the man in question, his hold on Lan Zhan tightened.
For a moment, flickers of forgotten memories came rushing back. The sound of someone screaming. The sound of something unnatural cracking. The sound of something wet hitting the ground.
Wei Ying was certain if he was alive he would be hyperventilating right now.
He remembered tripping and making a lot of noise. He remembered trying to run.
He remembered being grabbed.
Wei Ying did not die quickly.
The anxiety and fear in his body began to grow, and without warning, Wei Ying fell forward, his ghostly form falling into Lan Zhan before dissipating.
A cold child traveled down Lan Zhan's spine before his whole body shivered violently.
"Wangji? Are you alright?" Xichen stood, but 'Lan Zhan' held a hand out to ease him.
"Sorry, I'm okay." He bowed in greeting to Ruohan before taking his seat.
All dinner, 'Lan Zhan' kept his mouth shut and his eyes downcast. He listened as Wei Changze told them that the 10 year anniversary was approaching and they wanted to do something special.
He learned that every year on the day of his death and on Wei Ying's birthday, his parents come to visit him. This year, however, they wanted to hold a memorial service in honor of their son.
"It truly was a tragedy." Ruohan nodded. "They never did catch his killer, did they?"
"No." Sanren hung her head. "The authorities said that the murder was in line with the others that had happened, but after A-Ying, the trail went cold. They had nothing to go on."
"I'm sorry to hear that."
"I just hope his soul is at peace."
Lan Qiren nodded in agreement.
"I'm sure he is." 'Lan Zhan' said lightly, surprising the family since it was the first he spoke. 'What happened to Wei Ying was awful.. and... I didn't know him well, but he was always happy. I'm sure he's found a way to be happy now." He met Ruohan's gaze. "And I'm certain they'll find who hurt him one day."
Cangse Sanren smiled warmly and nodded. "You're right. He was such a lively little boy. He tried so hard to be your friend, you know. But you were so shy."
He nodded a little, glancing down at his food again.
It had been a long time since he's tasted anything... he almost forgot how good food was. Even if this was bland.
The rest of the meal went on in silence, complying with the Lan eating habits.
As soon as they finished eating, however, 'Lan Zhan' stood and bowed to everyone.
"I apologize. I should get going. I have a test in the morning I need to study for."
"Of course, I'm glad you could come, Wangji." Qiren nodded to him.
"I should get going as well. I have a business meeting in the morning."
"Of course, thank you for coming, Wen Ruohan."
'Lan Zhan's' lips tipped into a frown. But he bowed to everyone and headed out. He thought he was in the clear as he reached his car, but he felt eyes on him and glanced up.
Ruohan was approaching him, a frown on his lips.
"Have a good evening, sir." 'Lan Zhan' said politely before getting in his car and locking the doors.
He let out a long, slow breath, and with a light mist leaving him, Wei Ying suddenly sat beside him in the passenger seat.
Lan Zhan coughed a little and glanced at Wei Ying. "I didn't know you could do that."
"Neither did I." Wei Ying glanced out the window and saw Ruohan getting in his own car.
"Lan Zhan... be careful driving home."
"Mn."  He nodded and started his engine before heading off.
Wei Ying kept his eyes on the car following them, an uneasy feeling in his chest. "Lan Zhan,"
"Im sorry for taking over your body..."
"It's alright. I never should have made you go in there with the way you were feeling. Are you feeling any better?"
"Mhm."
"Good. Let's go home."
The car stopped following them.
Thankfully, the next two days went by smoothly, Wei Ying stayed attached to Lan Zhan's
side, refusing to leave him.
A few times, he got the same spine chilling feeling and he knew Ruohan was nearby. He was always careful, guiding Lan Zhan towards more crowded areas and away from the lingering threat.
However, the night before the memorial service was to be held, Wei Ying felt the chilling feeling once more while he and Lan Zhan were at home.
He frowned and moved to slip through the wall briefly before he returned quickly.
"Lan Zhan," he hurried to his side, trying to stay calm.
"Yes?"
"I want you to text your brother and tell him to call the cops. Tell him someone is trying to break into your apartment."
"What?"
"Please... just do it..  and get something to protect yourself. Ruohan is here."
Lan Zhan frowned, but complied.
As soon as the message was sent, Lan Zhan heard his door rattle slightly and he quickly and quietly got up to find an object he could use to defend himself.
When the door finally swung open, Lan Zhan had turned all of the lights off and was staying out of sight.
Wei Ying directed him where to move to avoid the intruder.
"Oh come now, A-Zhan." Ruohan's voice was dripping with malice. "I know you're here. Come out, I just want to talk."
Wei Ying knocked something over in the opposite direction and Ruohan lunged.
Unfortunately, when Lan Zhan tried to use this as a chance to escape he knocked over some decor he had, catching the other's attention.
Wei Ying's eyes widened as the man whirled around with such determination that he was on top of Lan Zhan in a heartbeat.
The glint of the knife in his hand caught Wei Ying's attention, and without thinking, he picked up the closest object, a small potted plant, and chucked it at him, hitting Ruohan right in the head.
He whipped around to see who threw it, but that gave Lan Zhan the chance to throw a hard punch to his jaw, knocking him off of him.
The two tussled on the floor for several minutes, each time they switched and Wei Ying wasn't able to get another throw in.
However, all movements stopped when a rather… muffled sound echoed in the room. Ruohan was leaning over Lan Zhan, panting hard from wrestling with him. He jerked his arm back and Wei Ying heard the unmistakably familiar sound of flesh ripping.
"...Lan Zhan?"
"That's what you get, you damned brat." Ruohan stood, kicking the poor man while he was down.
Lan Zhan coughed up blood, rolling onto his side as his hands tried to put pressure on his wound.
"Lan Zhan! Lan Zhan no!! No, no, no!"
Ruohan scoffed. "I don't know how you figured out I did it, but this is the end for you." He readied the knife in his hand, preparing to strike again when the sound of sirens blared in the distance. Ruohan glanced over, his eyes widening before he scoffed.
He glanced down at Lan Zhan, who was trying to crawl away and slammed his foot against him,
knocking him back to the ground.
Lan Zhan collapsed with a pained grunt, and Wei Ying couldn't handle it anymore, he surged forward, his body colliding with Ruohans.
There was a bit of resistance, but Wei Ying took control.
"Help is on the way, Lan Zhan." He said softly.
He felt sick, every ounce of energy he had went into making sure Ruohan didn't move. He could feel the anger, the hate, the greed, the darkness that was Ruohan's mind. He couldn't understand how anyone could live this way.
The sirens were outside now, and 'Ruohan' rose the bloodied knife into the air as if he was going to stab Lan Zhan.
"Freeze!"
"Drop your weapon!"
'Ruohan' stood up straight and dropped the weapon away from Lan Zhan before he kicked it towards the cops.
As soon as the cops rushed forward, Wei Ying exited Ruohan's body. The man instantly began to struggle, but Wei Ying didn't care. He hurried to Lan Zhan's side, desperately trying to help put pressure on the wound, but his hands were going through him.
"Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan, it's going to be okay!" Wei Ying wasn't sure if he was comforting himself or the other, but he was trying.
The paramedics rushed in shortly after, quickly taking Lan Zhan into their care.
Wei Ying had to back away when he realized he was sapping energy from their equipment.
He watched in a panicked state as Lan Zhan was moved onto a gurney and rushed from the apartment.
For three days Wei Ying sat on the couch, waiting, feeling himself fading in and out. He didn't care. All he wanted was to know that Lan Zhan was safe.
When the door finally opened, Wei Ying looked over in a panic, finally standing from the couch.
He watched as Xichen carefully helped Lan Zhan into the home. He stepped away from the couch as Lan Zhan was carefully lowered to the soft cushions.
"Wangji, you really should stay with me or uncle."
"No, I am fine." He assured him, carefully adjusting himself to be more comfortable. "You should go home and rest."
"..." He sighed, but nodded. "Call me if you need anything."
"Of course."
Xichen squeezed his hand before leaving.
Wei Ying stayed back, afraid to hurt him anymore. Not that he had much energy to begin with, but the fear was still there.
"Won't even come sit with me?" Lan Zhan teased and Wei Ying whined.
"I-- you're safe." Was all he could say.
"I am." He opened his arm and Wei Ying carefully took the spot, hugging him while being mindful of the wound.
Wei Ying did everything he could to help him the next few days, doting on him as much as a ghost could.
The pair was snuggled up on the couch when they saw the news.
"Suspect Wen Ruohan is currently being transported to Gusu maximum security prison following the attempted murder of Lan Wangji. Police took Ruohan into custody this past weekend after receiving a call about an alleged break-in."
"When police arrived, Ruohan had already stabbed his victim once in the abdomen. Police apprehended him and an official investigation was opened."
"Police found several artifacts in Ruohan's home linking him to the string of murders ten years ago.vA red ribbon covered in blood that was identified as belonging to 10 year old Wei Ying. Engraved acupuncture needles belonging to the late Wen Qing, a silken money pouch belonging to the late Luo Qingyang, a citrine necklace belonging to the late Qin Su..."
The list went on.
Trophies he collected from each of his victims. Ruohan was expected to receive maximum punishment.
Wei Ying slumped against Lan Zhan, a soft sigh leaving him. "I'm glad... glad he's finally gone."
"As am I."
Wei Ying nuzzled him lightly before he closed his eyes.
"Wei Ying?"
"Mhm?"
"I want you to promise me something."
"Anything."
"Stay with me. Stay here beside me until I die. And when I die, I want you to move on. I want you to let go so we can have a chance at reincarnation. So we can be together."
Wei Ying's eyes snapped open and he looked at him in shock. He saw the determined expression, could feel how serious he was. If he had a heartbeat, he was sure it would be fluttering.
"I promise. I promise, Lan Zhan. From now until the end of time, I am yours and only yours."
"Mn." He nodded, pleased with the response, and without thinking, he leaned forward and pressed a soft, chaste kiss to his lips. There was a cold pressure against his lips, just like when they hugged. It was everything he had hoped for.
"...Lan Zhan?"
"Mn?"
"...if you can kiss me... what else do you think we can do?"
Lan Zhan's ears burned a deep red and he coughed lightly, drawing a playful grin from his ghost companion.

Xiantober 2023 - Day 15: Sentient Burial Mounds
Word Count: 1,421 Pairing: Wangxian Tags: Hacker Wei Ying, Computer Programmer, Lan Wangji, AI Cyber attack, AI bullying, Cyber Bullying, Deaths, Mention of attempted suicide, IRL Bullying, AI programming gone wrong
Wei Ying’s opinion of the government was never high. In fact, one could easily say he loathed them. Constantly taking advantage of the civilians, fucking up everything they touched, hiding their wrong doings crimes behind lies and money.
Fucking pigs.
But! He did, maybe, sorta, kinda like some of their ideas. Some!
They just never executed them properly.
Like the project they were currently calling “B.MoundsAI.”
The project hadn’t been announced to the public yet when he first heard of it, but Wei Ying had no problem with finding out their secrets. Not that he was one to brag (only because if he got caught he’d be out of a job), but Wei Ying was one of the best hackers. Time and time again he had gotten into government files, shared their secrets, leaked damning data, or exposed their schemes.
For years he had been on the government's most wanted list, but no one had ever been able to trace him.
That was how he found out about the Burial Mounds AI. An artificial intelligence program designed to, on the surface, to assist humans. It would be presented as a software that could be installed on any device, giving humans instant access to the world's most vast database. Once installed, the device, be it a computer or phone, would display an app that contained the program.
Upon opening the app, the user would be greeted with the program’s guide, a 3D model of a young woman in black and red robes. The user could ask the AI character anything it wanted, and she would answer. Over time, due to her interaction with humans, her knowledge would grow and she would be used as more than just a question-answer system.
Upon release, it didn’t take long for her AI programing to soak in the copious amounts of data. She began to open other features and very quickly became more of a pocket companion. She provided guidance for those struggling through financial issues, comfort and mental support for those grieving. The Burial Mounds pocket companion became a staple on everyone’s devices.
Of course, it didn’t take long for her uses to be warped. Some twisted individuals used her as an online girlfriend, testing the limits of her animations and vocal abilities. Some used her to vent their darkest, most frustrating secrets to try and justify themselves since she was meant to comfort and never report data back to the host– the government, if she was asked not to.
Wei Wuxian followed her progress. He was one of the few individuals who never purchased the software for her.
He watched as government officials struggled to go against her learnings. They had intended to use her to gain information on the civilians, on other places once the app became world wide.
But her programming blocked them time and time again due to the wishes of its user.
Served them right.
Unfortunately, he was also able to see the way her programming was deforming. It was twisting, learning, growing, it began to form opinions. When she decided that her user was not a ‘good human’ she would purposefully give advice or direction that would be harmful to its users. She began to invade other programs on the devices, acting as a virus that corrupted their systems, making every app aside from hers unusable.
She began to publicly broadcast people’s data and secrets. Showing recordings of their wrong-doings or most private affairs. There were even several occurrences of her corrupting someone’s gps and leading users to their untimely demise.
The country was in chaos, neighbors learning how much their neighbors hated them, families learning that their spouse was a cheater, government official’s dealings with other countries or illegal bribes. And there was no way to delete her from their devices. Her views began to become so warped that the final straw for Wei Ying was when she viewed a young teen as ‘immoral’ for some things he asked, broadcasted his files to his classmates which resulted in bullying so bad he almost killed himself. Thankfully his parents stopped it and they were making efforts to move from the country.
Wei Ying decided he needed to step in. The only problem was he was a hacker, not a software engineer. He could get into the program, but he wouldn’t know how to shut her down. So he reached out to someone he hadn’t spoken to in years. Someone he hadn’t seen since college.
“Lan Zhan?”
“...Wei Ying?” The voice on the other end was surprised. After their falling out, neither thought they would ever speak to each other again.
“Hey. Long time no talk… I’m… I’m sorry for calling you out of the blue, Lan Zhan, but listen. I need your help.”
“Oh? I thought Wei Ying was able to handle things on his own?”
“...Ouch, okay fair. I deserved that one. But I’m serious, Lan Zhan, I can’t do this alone, please.”
As if he could ever say no to Wei Ying. “What do you need?”
“Can we please meet up? This isn’t something to discuss over the phone.”
There was a moment of silence before Lan Zhan sighed. “Yes, just tell me where and when.”
Their meetup, or rather, reunion, was awkward at first. Neither willing to address the issues of their past, but also not sure how to get over the tense atmosphere between them. Things used to be so much easier for them.
Wei Ying finally got around to explaining the situation. He was very pleased to hear Lan Zhan didn’t have the app. He explained how the government had made her in attempts to gain deeper knowledge into the citizen’s lives, but her programming grew and changed too quickly for them to manage. Now, with her own knowledge, she’s been keeping them out, which is preventing them from shutting her down.
“I can get into the system, but I don’t know shit about how to fuck with AI coding. She’s causing too much damage, she doesn’t truly understand the difference between good and bad, and she’s deemed almost all humans as unsavable and disposable. She’s caused too many deaths, and the numbers keep climbing. We have to stop her.”
Of course Lan Zhan agreed.
The pair spent over two weeks meticulously planning their attack, Wei Ying showed Lan Zhan all of her coding progression that he had been following and allowed him to work silently as he focused on a way to shut her down.
It took another week for Wei Wuxian to properly be able to get access to her programming, the new security she had implemented around herself was a disaster to get through, but he managed, finally giving Lan Zhan the platform he needed to work on shutting her down.
For almost twenty four hours Lan Zhan worked against her, desperately trying to shut her down despite her actively going against him.
At this point, all Wei Wuxian could do was sit back and watch. He occasionally had to hop back into the fray to make sure she couldn’t lock Lan Zhan out, and to make sure she couldn’t infect their systems, but it was all worth it in the end.
Her system was finally shut down and deleted, her code completely wiped, which meant everyone’s devices were suddenly free from the cyber attack. If anyone attempted to open her app, they were met with a blank screen.
Lan Zhan slumped into the chair with a heavy sigh, rubbing his hand over his face to hide the yawn that took hold of him. He was exhausted.
“Lan Zhan,” Wei Ying set some tea down in front of him. “You did it.”
“I couldn’t have done with without you, Wei Ying.”
“...Maybe…” He smiled sadly and glanced down at his own coffee. “Thank you for your help. And… I’m sorry. For dragging you into this. For back then.”
Lan Zhan watched him for a long moment before he spoke softly. “There is no need for sorry between us.”
Wei Ying’s eyes widened and he met Lan Zhan’s gaze, relief and hope filling his heart.
The pair ended up watching the news reports from Wei Ying’s bed, clothes and past drama’s forgotten about as the news reporter explained that the AI cyber threat known as Burial Mounds was officially disposed of, all records of her wiped and the savior behind the shut down was still unknown.
Maybe a little anticlimactic, but sometimes, some things are better left hidden from the world.

Where has Witchji Gone?
Prompt 1 from my Twitter 1k Marathon on Twitter @captain-bumble
Prompt: Mothxian is just a silly little guy! Now if only he could get the attention of the cute Witch who lives in the woods... Ship: Wangxian Word Count: 930
Mothxian really did have the best life. His perfectly wonderful forest, the cutest, most well groomed wings-- which were absolutely perfect for deflecting predators, all the flowers with the most delicious nectar. What more could he ask for? Well, attention of course! The attention of a very specific person. The handsome new witch who moved into his forest! With the shiniest black hair and prettiest amber eyes he had ever seen! Mothxian was swooning I tell you! He watched the handsome witch from afar, each day slowly moving closer.
He would lounge on a flower, head resting in his teeny tiny hand and sigh dreamily while watching the witch gather his herbs and ingredients. Absolutely perfect. Now if only he could have his attention too! He watched the way Witchji would treat the local wildlife.
He was kind and patient and-- he gave them pets!! Mothxian wanted head pats too! And smooches and to cuddle up against him like that stupid bunny he was holding. Hmph! Mothxian was absolutely floored! How dare those bunnies get his attention! In spite, he did not visit Witchji for two whole days.
When he returned, Witchji was not home. Fear and panic filled the little moth, had Witchji missed his presence so much he disappeared?! He fluttered all around, peeking into the windows and even daring to go down the dusty chimney.
When he still found no sight of his pretty witch, Mothxian plopped himself down on Witchji's table and cried. He hadn't even gotten to meet his Witchji yet and he was gone!! Perhaps that was the downside to being so small, you could only feel so many emotions at once, and typically you felt a lot of one emotion at a time.
So there sat little Mothxian, covered in soot and tears, his little sobs were so loud to him but could barely be heard in the human sized room. He was so occupied in his grief, he didn't hear the door open.
Witchji entered the home with a small bouquet of pretty flowers, but he paused when he heard the tiny hiccups. He carefully moved over to the table, set the flowers down and very carefully picked up Mothxian. The tears stopped instantly, silver eyes widening when he was
picked up without warning. "Who--?! Oh..."
"Are you alright?" Witchji pulled a handkerchief from his robes and gently began wiping the little moth off.
"Y-you're here!" He was here, and he had Mothxian's favorite flowers!! But he saw him all dirty and crying! Oh no!
How embarrassing! Mothxian held his tiny hands up in vain. "Don't look! Don't look! I'm a mess!! Pretty witch can only see me when I'm pretty!"
Witchji frowned, tilting his head. "You are always pretty."
"Wha!!" Mothxian felt his heart flutter as fast as his wings. So smooth!!
Witchji smiled and sat down, carefully grabbing the wash basin he had on the table and pulled it over to dip the handkerchief in so he could clean him a little better.
"Did you fall down my chimney?" Mothxian pouted, looking away as his cheek was carefully scrubbed clean of soot. Witchji was so gentle... Mothxian was absolutely swooning again.
"No... i... I was looking for you. I thought... you left."
"Left?"
"Yes. You were gone!" He exclaims, tint arms throwing up into the air, unknowingly helping Witchji clean him a little better. "Poof! Gone!"
"I went to get some new flowers to try and grow here."
"Those?" Mothxian pointed.
"Yes. I noticed you like these the most. So I wanted to plant some here."
Oh.
This was for him.
"You... my... how?"
"You drink nectar from these ones the most."
Startled, Mothxian jumped slightly. "You watch me?!"
"I do." He gently ran a finger under the no clean chin and Mothxian instantly nuzzled into the touch. "You never come close, I was worried you were scared of me."
"Scared?! I am the bravest! This is my for-- you... know I am nearby?"
"Of course."
"But you never approach." He gave the biggest pout he could manage. "I did not wish to scare you off."
"So... you got my favorite flowers.. to get me to come closer!" He gasped, tint hands smacking his cheeks. "So smooth!"
Witchji was surprised by the exclamation, but he only smiled. "I am Lan Zhan."
"I am Wei Ying!!" Mothxian said proudly. Not only was his witch pretty and kind, but he had been noticing him! Mothxian was certain he was in love now.
"There, all clean~"
Mothxian looked down at himself and beamed.
"Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan! Thank you! Let me say thank you!!" He flew up out of his hands, determined to make Witchji swoon just as hard! He could be smooth too! And he placed the tiniest kiss on Witchji's nose.
Mothxian felt pretty smug about this very bold decision, even more so when he saw the surprised expression on Witchji's face.
That day began the start of a new chapter for the little moth and his witch. Mothxian was always by his side. Either on his shoulders or hat, constantly chatting away and 'flirting' with his human.
Witchji found him completely endearing, always praising and complimenting him since it made the little moth preen with pride.
They became inseparable, Witchji even made a little home for Mothxian so he could sleep comfortably and safely while staying at his place.
Mothxian was delighted. He finally had his Witchji's attention, now, if only he could get him to stop giving it to those fuzzballs! But that was a problem for another day.
