The Chinese character for 'Chan' is also slightly different. To put it simply, it is the difference whether there is a side of 'bead jade', which is an adjunct of 'chan'.
Today, it is common to write 姜邯贊 following the notation of 《Goryeosa》, but it is also found written as 姜邯瓚. The name of the pagoda written on the pagoda built by Kang Gam-chan at Heungguksa Temple above is written as 姜邯瓚. In the 《Annals of King Jeongjo》 of the Joseon Dynasty, Min Jong-hyeon, the presiding judge of the Joseon Dynasty, made this appeal while mentioning the tower of Heungguksa Temple above. "There is a pagoda at the old site of Heungguksa Temple in Songgyeong (松京: Gaegyeong), and there is a note on the top of the pagoda. It's different. In general, stone engravings are much more reliable than wood engravings. From now on, it would be better to write all Kang Gam-chan's names with the letters chan (瓚)." So, the king followed suit. 從之. Faith, 比諸登榟之本, 不啻懸隔. 《Annals of King Jeongjo》 July 21, 20th year of King Jeongjo. The notation 姜邯贊 is from 《Goryeosa》 compiled in the early Joseon Dynasty, and the stone pagoda of Heungguksa Temple built by Kang Gam-chan says 姜邯瓚. And it is said that Jeongjo followed it as it was. Perhaps this is a story that has been controversial since around this time, Han Chi-yoon in the reign of King Jeongjo also cited this pagoda name in 《Haedong History》 as a basis. "In 《Goryeosa》, his name is written except for the 'bead jade' side, but it should be regarded as accurate that it is written on the tower of Heungguksa Temple." also claimed that
The Heungguk Temple Tower is located in North Korea and cannot be confirmed now, but the inscription remains. Link However, considering that it is mostly recorded as 姜邯贊 and recorded differently only here, there is a possibility that the 'bead jade' side was worn in old age. Tattoo of King Seongjong, the 6th king of Goryeo. He is regarded as a byword for Goryeo diplomats and is a representative of Korean diplomatic history along with Kim Chun-chu of Silla, Lee Ye of Joseon, and Choi Myeong-gil of Joseon.
Although she is perceived as a diplomat, in reality, Seo Hui was not only a diplomat, but also a strategist with a long-term perspective who served as prime minister, and a politician with a sense of principle and responsibility. did. At this time, Sosonnyeong defeated the Goryeo army at Bongsan, advertised that the army was 800,000 strong, and threatened the Goryeo court to surrender, but Goryeo agreed to surrender. Regarding the method of surrender, they were divided between the theory of peace and the theory of peace after giving away the land north of Seogyeong to Liao. In fact, the 800,000 army was a lie. It is today's guess that the army of Sosunning at that time was difficult to exceed 60,000 at most. At that time, Khitan's expeditions could be largely divided into those commanded by Dotong or higher and those not commanded by Dotong. Expeditions led by Dotong often numbered more than 150,000 men, but expeditions not led by Dotong numbered up to six. It was about ten thousand people. Since Xiao Sunning's position at the time was not a Taoist, it is impossible to rule out the possibility that the maximum number of soldiers that Xiao Sunning could command was 60,000 or less.
The bluff worked because Yun Seo-an's vanguard was severely defeated by this force at the forefront of Bongsanseong Fortress. The number of soldiers that Goryeo could mobilize was more than 60,000, but it took a certain amount of time to mobilize and mobilize combatable troops, and it failed to buy time. After the Battle of Bongsanseong, So Son-nyeong loudly shouted, "Surrender unconditionally," to Lee Mong-jeon, an envoy dispatched by Goryeo, and the Goryeo government faced a confusing situation.[15]

Lee Sun-gyun proposes a deal to Park Hoon
Tumblr media
Lee Seon-gyun of ‘Fighting Law’ proposed a deal to Park Hoon.
On the afternoon of the 27th, in the SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Bobjeon', Lee Sun-gyun, who proposed a deal to Moon Chae-won and Park Hoon, who acted as lawyers, was broadcast.
On this day, in 1998, Eun-yong (Lee Seon-gyun) was lost in thought when he heard that Kim Seong-tae (Lee Geon-myeong), who had heard the source of the operation of Chairman Myeong (Kim Hong-pa), was taking back money.
As he put down the cake box with money next to the person Chairman Myung instructed, he overheard the conversation between Chairman Myung and the man. Ji-Hee Eun (Jung-Yeon Seo) was furious when Eun-Yong borrowed her house as collateral because she needed a lot of money for stocks.
Eun Ji-hee, who said that she had seen several people who took stock in a bar, said, “How do you think about touching this house. I'm a low-born person, so it doesn't matter if I live anywhere, but our Taechun (Kang Yoo-seok) shouldn't be raised like that,” she said anxiously.
Eun-yong was the first bet he had to win, and I heard from Kim Seong-tae (Lee Geon-myung) that the stock price had plummeted. Lee Jin-ho (Won Hyeon-joon) was furious, calling Chairman Myeong a dog breed and tricking Eun-yong, who was driving next to him.
At this time, Eun-yong showed a bundle of money in the bag and smiled at Lee Jin-ho, saying, “Your shit, you bastard.” Eun-yong, who had taken Lee Jin-ho and his older sister's money and put it into stocks, got goosebumps at the sight of Chairman Myeong talking about real information while eating.
Soon, Eun-yong made money by selling the target price he had in mind before Chairman Myung did.
To Eun-yong, who was released from solitary confinement, the prison guard said, “How will you have a refreshing cup of iced coffee mix with me later at night? Even so, only you would have to suffer.”
Meanwhile, Jang Tae-choon watched Chairman Myung's car disappear after drinking, and found Lee Soo-dong (Kwon Hyuk) angry about when the assistant manager would arrive, so he volunteered to drive.
Lee Soo-dong, who was talking on the phone in the car, was furious at the sound of Lee Jin-ho asking for medicine and told him to give it to Jang Tae-chun while driving while listening to the conversation.
Arriving at the dark building, Jang Tae-chun secretly took a picture when Lee Soo-dong disappeared. Jang Tae-chun, who met Nam Sang-il (Choi Deok-moon) and showed him the picture, said that he must be a gambling house, so he asked for information.

4 K-Dramas that make me go  ✨w o m a n✨
Today I present to you the Crème de la Crème. Beautiful, pretty, smart and unstoppable: These K-Dramas make me want to marry the female characters. I promise after watching these four series you will question yourself again what sexuality you are.
Strong roles for female characters are actually rare in K-Drama. Too often they depend on the help and validation of men, are portrayed stereotypical or in unrealistic ways. These following K-Dramas are breaking the standard roles of those female characters and make them the heroine of the story:
- Hotel del Luna [호텔 델루나] // 2019 by Oh Choong-Hwan, Hong Jeong-Eun // 16 Episodes
Hotel del Luna is a story about Man-Wol, who is forced to care for a supernatural hotel due to a sin she committed in the past. It is a guest house for the souls/ghosts of deceased humans who have unfinished business on earth before going to the afterlife. Besides Man-Wol there are also other staff at the hotel such as the receptionist Hyun-Joong and the human hotel manager Chan-Sung. The story evolves around Man-Wol’s past life, her relationship with Chan-Sung and the development of her character.
Man-Wol seems to be a closed in and out of touch character. She loves to spend money on pretty things, acts invulnerable and classy. Her character is strong and independent and as the story develops, we realise, that even in her past live she always relied on herself. The second lead character, the human hotel manager Chan-Sung, helps her to overcome the grief of her past and move on to the future, so she can finally enter the afterlife.
It is an interesting, sometimes sad, mostly entertaining drama with a heartwarming story. If you look closely you can spot other known faces such as Sulli, Lee Do-Hyun, Kang Mi-Na and Soo-Hyun.
Main Actresses and Actors: Lee Ji-Eun (IU) as Jang Man-Wol & Yeo Jin-Goo as Koo Chan-Sung

- Run On [런 온] // 2020 by Lee Jae-Hun, Park Si-Hyeon // 16 Episodes
Run On is a simple romance drama without a big plot line. It tells the story about the average translator Oh Mi-Joo who lives a pretty normal live. Through her job she meets the sprinter Ki Seon-Gyeom who retires shortly after and starts working as an agent for his friend Kim Woo-Sik. They start dating and throughout their relationship they have to face different kind of problems and how to overcome them. The second plot revolves around the unemphatic CEO Seo Dan-A who meets the young art student Lee Yeong-Hwa who starts working on an art pice for her. They too start dating.
Oh Mi-Joo and Seo Dan-A are really strong characters who have their own live and principles. Although having different backgrounds they both display an independent woman who cares for herself first. All relationships in this drama are pretty healthy and something we can actually learn from. Another fact I really like is that we finally see more than only straight characters. Dan-A for example could be seen as a non stereotypical Bi-Character and Yeong-Hwa’s best friend is a gay character with the difficulty of coming out to him.
As I mentioned before there isn’t much of an exciting plot line but the development of the characters and their relationship is fun to watch and makes it a relaxing drama.
Main Actresses and Actors: Yim Si-Wan as Ki Seon-Gyeom, Shin Se-Kyung as Oh Mi-Joo & Choi Soo-Young as Seo Dan-Ah, Kang Tae-Oh as Lee Young-Hwa

- It’s Okay to Not Be Okay [사이코지만 괜찮아] // 2020 by Park Shin-Woo, Jo Yong // 16 Episodes
A story about a sassy child book author who moves back to her old house and starts working at a mental hospital to give lectures about literature. She meets Moon Gang-Tae and his little brother and starts to befriend them. Gang-Tae also works at the mental institution and lives at his old friends house. Together the three start to overcome their past traumas and problems.
Moon-Young the child book author is a mysterious woman who seems to be sadistic and a little bit crazy. She doesn’t fit into society norms and doesn’t give a s*** about other opinions. Moon-Young also has a fantastic taste in fashion and carelessly of her surroundings wears what she loves (extravagant clothing that looks like she hoped out of a fairy tale). As the story develops, we learn that she has a lot of suppressed trauma because of her mother who wants to kill her. The male lead Gang-Tae has to deal with the difficult relationship with his autistic brother. Moon Sang-Tae, Gang-Tae’s brother on the other hand has untreated trauma from his past, that leads to him being mentally unstable. The plot line focuses on the trio who heal each other through their friendship and trust in each other.
I really enjoyed watching this drama. All characters are interesting and have their own motives and stories. Seo Yea-Ji is a great actor and fits the role of Ga-Young perfectly plus she is super pretty. I recommend this drama for everyone who wants to watch something out of the ordinary.
Main Actresses and Actors: Seo Yea-Ji as Koo Moon-Young & Kim Soo-Hyun as Moon Gang-Tae

- The Uncanny Counter [경이로운 소문] // 2020 by Yoo Sun-Dong // 16 Episodes
This Drama is about a high schooler named So Mun who is lives with his grand parents and is a pretty soft boy. He becomes a “Counter” and joins a group of other “Counter” to catch evil spririts. Together they start digging up the wrong doings of mayor Shin Myeong-whi and his partners while catching an unstoppable evil spirit named Ji Cheong-Sin who commits a lot of murders around their town.
The reason I included this Drama is the strong role of Do Ha-Na who is part of the counter group and becomes good friends with So Mun. She is the definition of a strong woman who is independent and relies on herself. Nonetheless she needs help from time to time to overcome hardships. Other female roles such as Counter Mae-Ok and Mun’s friend Ju-Yeon are also non stereotypical female roles with interesting and special traits.
The Uncanny Counter is not a romance Drama but more so an action or fantasy one. It is full of inspirational scenes, characters and interesting plot twists.
Main Actresses and Actors: Jo Byeong-Kyu as So Mun & Kim Se-Jeong as Do Ha-Na

WHY PEOPLE ARE BUZZING ABOUT STRANGER S2 : INTENSE INTRIGUE + EVERYONE IS A SUSPECT
Can you find the culprit?
Tumblr media
All the puzzle pieces in the crime series Stranger S2 are coming together as our favorite crime-solving duo team up to find missing Prosecutor Seo Dong-jae (Lee Joon-hyuk). While Prosecutor Hwang Si-mok (Cho Seung-woo) and Police Inspector Han Yeo-jin (Bae Doo-na) retrace Dong-jae’s steps, they discover that cases brought up earlier appear to be related to his disappearance. What makes the series so interesting is the brain-racking mystery and how suspicious all the characters are. Enjoy sleuthing alongside the duo and check out the possible culprits here.
Choi Bit
Tumblr media
Most of the primary suspects are new characters in the second season, including Chief Choi (Jeon Hye-jin). Choi Bit has no qualms about bending the truth for the good of the police. She can be hot-headed and calculative. Prior to Seo Dong-jae’s disappearance, Choi Bit was concerned about him prying into the case of Police Sergeant Song Gi-hyeon (Lee Ga-sub)’s death. Now she’s worried about the public thinking that a police officer might be behind Dong-jae’s kidnapping. She’s clearly nervous and has something to hide, but could she be responsible for Dong-jae?
Woo Tae-ha
Tumblr media
Both Choi Bit and Chief Prosecutor Woo Tae-ha (Choi Moo-sung) seem bothered about the fact that Seo Dong-jae was looking into the death of prosecutor turned lawyer Park Gwang-su (Seo Jin-won) before his abduction. However, Woo Tae-ha might be experiencing more difficulty in trying to appear nonchalant. He’s on edge and doesn’t want Hwang Si-mok to dig too deep. Tae-ha already lied about the other file Dong-jae gave him and spoke to Park Gwang-su’s wife secretly. Could he be involved in Dong-jae’s abduction?
Lee Yeon-jae
Tumblr media
Lee Yeon-jae (Yoon Se-a) is now in charge of Hanjo and embroiled in a power struggle with her brother Lee Sung-jae. She’s determined to keep her position and continue rebuilding Hanjo’s reputation. Could she be entangled in some dirty dealings though? When Dong-jae brought up Park Gwang-su’s death she jokingly asked if she had killed him. Furthermore, before Dong-jae’s disappearance Yeon-jae cryptically says, “There was one more,” after receiving a supportive text message from Dong-jae. However, Yeon-jae may not be directly involved in his disappearance because she does appear to be worried about him.
Kim Sa-hyun
Tumblr media
Prosecutor Kim Sa-hyun (Kim Young-jae) joined Woo Tae-ha and Hwang Si-mok to represent the prosecution for the Prosecution-Police Council Meeting. He comes off a bit arrogant and annoying at first, but he seems different after Dong-jae’s disappearance. Sa-hyun has a bit of a heart-to-heart with Si-mok when he talks about having known the late Lee Chang-jun (Yu Jae-myeong) and being affected by his passing even though he had not seen him for 13 years. He also notes that if a police officer is responsible for Dong-jae’s kidnapping then the investigative authority fight between the police and the prosecution is over. Sa-hyun seems harmless, but you never know what could happen in this series.
Kang Won-chul
Tumblr media
Chief Prosecutor Kang Won-chul (Park Seong-keun) quickly signed off on the ruling for the Tongyeong drowning case which wrapped it up in a short amount of time. While Si-mok didn’t disagree with the ruling, there are some signs that show Won-chul might have changed since the first season. He’s in a higher position of power than before, and his meeting with prosecutor turned lawyer Oh Ju-seon (Kim Hak-sun) reveals that Won-chul might be considering what to do with his career after leaving the prosecution someday. Is Kang Won-chul still trustworthy?
Lee Sung-jae
Tumblr media
We have yet to see Lee Yeon-jae’s brother Lee Sung-jae. We do know that he’s ambitious and eager to take over control of Hanjo. Seo Dong-jae got involved when Yeon-jae asked him to speak to her father on her behalf. Although he wasn’t able to get inside her father’s residence, he did succeed with investigating and discovering some medication in the trash. This information helped Yeon-jae realize her father’s current state. What if Lee Sung-jae found out about Dong-jae sneaking around and reporting to Yeon-jae? Would he have played a hand in his disappearance?
Jeon Seung-pyo
Tumblr media
Former Dongducheon Chief Jeon Seung-pyo (Moon Jong-won) is a favorite potential suspect amongst many viewers. He’s got anger issues and is implicated in two of the three cases Dong-jae was looking into. The first case centers around his demotion after assaulting his driver. This was the case that Woo Tae-ha pretended to have forgotten in front of Hwang Si-mok. He was also questioned for whether or not he was involved in Song Gi-hyeon getting transferred to the precinct where Jeon Seung-pyo’s nephew works. Yeo-jin and Si-mok observed that Seung-pyo could have overpowered Dong-jae, but is he guilty of attacking him?
Kim Su-hang
Tumblr media
Kim Su-hang (Kim Beom-su) is Jeon Seung-pyo’s nephew and finished serving his sentence for receiving bribes. We know he had an antagonistic relationship with the deceased Song Gi-hyeon, but he claims to have repented upon being questioned by Yeo-jin. Su-hang’s employer described him as a hardworking person and well-liked by the elders. Is he truly a changed person, or is he just putting on an act? While he has an alibi, is it possible that there’s an accomplice?
Baek Jung-gi
Tumblr media
Police team leader Baek Jung-gi (Jung Seung-gil) seemed pretty guilty earlier on. It appeared as though he was receiving bribes and potentially guilty of killing Song Gi-hyeon. When questioned after a witness comes forward, Jung-gi appears more innocent. He does seem genuinely remorseful about leading his team to accept bribes in order for Lee Dae-seong (Park Sung-il) to afford his ill mother’s medication. However, when the Segok officers are walking to the room to be identified by the witness, Jung-gi is the only officer who knows that there is a witness. Did he just hear it from colleagues or is he more involved than he lets on?
Prosecutor Seo Dong-jae’s Wife
Tumblr media
Seo Dong-jae’s wife (Choi Hee-seo) reacts atypically at the news of her husband’s disappearance. When the police check the DNA of the blood stain at the scene against her child’s cheek swab, she appears more worried about her children than her missing husband. However, she does film a video pleading for any witnesses to come forward. When Jang Geon (Choi Jae-woong) shows her the photo of Dong-jae’s bloody tie, she cries and pleads for help. However, when she watches the news with her son later, she looks oddly detached as she reassures her son that the news is not about his father. Is she hiding something?
The Father of One of the Drowning Victims
Tumblr media
The Tongyeong drowning case was the very first case we saw in the second season. There’s got to be more to the case than what we’ve seen thus far. The father of one of the drowning victims was visited by Choi Bit, Seo Dong-jae, and Han Yeo-jin separately. While he initially believed it was a simple drowning accident, the case became scrutinized for potential mishandling. Yeo-jin remembered the older, wooden flooring at the father’s home but has kept the information to herself. Is it just a coincidence or is the father involved with Dong-jae’s disappearance?
Tumblr media
Aside from the characters mentioned already, there are plenty more suspicious people to consider. Some that come to mind include Prosecutor Jeong Min-ha (Park Ji-yeon) who might harbor feelings for Dong-jae, and Lee Yeon-jae’s right-hand man Director Park (Jung Sung-il), who seems a bit shady. The culprit could even be someone not mentioned on this list at all. However, it’s clear that most of these people are hiding secrets. Only time will tell as Si-mok and Yeo-jin work together to expose the secrets. In the meantime, hang in there Dong-jae!
Don’t forget to tune in and watch Stranger S2, only on Netflix. Catch the culprit yourself!
Synopsis: In the midst of a power clash between prosecutors and police, Hwang Si-mok (Cho Seung-woo) and Han Yeo-jin (Bae Doo-na) reunite to uncover murky secrets as they pursue a labyrinth of intertwined cases.

Some Jang Hee Bin trivia bullet points
Movies Jang Hee Bin (1961) and Femme Fatale, Jang Hee Bin (1968)
Lee Seo Gu was approached to write the 1961 movie because of the success of his radio drama Jang Hee Bin in the same year.
At 21 years old at the time of filming, Kim Ji Mi is tied with Lee Mi Suk as the youngest actor to portray Jang Hee Bin.
Jang Hee Bin (MBC, 1971)
There was a ‘lead actor famine’ for this drama, and so a 300,000-won prize (worth 5,984,227 won today) was offered at first for the lead role, before a vote was called.
Yun Yeo Jeong was voted to become Jang Hee Bin amidst candidates Yun Jeong Hee and Kim Ji Mi, who previously portrayed Jang Hee Bin in 1961.
Though MBC’s 1971 adaptation was wildly popular, lead actress Yun Yeo Jeong received major backlash for her role. She was even removed from CFs for Yunina Shampoo and Oransshi Soda because ‘her image as Jang Hee Bin was not good for the product’.
While filming the 1971 adaptation, MBC reported many threatening calls to end the network, pressure from the audience to bring Queen Inhyeon back to life, and an incident on set where an actor playing the role of Jang Hee Bin’s court lady was given a bowl of hot water instead of room temperature in an attempt to sabotage filming.
Eventually, the drama was rewritten so that Queen Inhyeon was reinstated sooner than expected.
Actress Kim Min Jeong (Queen Inhyeon) was cast for the role in the 1971 adaptation on a stairwell by writer Lee Seo Gu.
This adaptation is the first to portray a dramatic poison scene, a plot point that would become the climax of many more adaptations to come, with various embellishments.
No known footage of this adaptation remains. MBC only began archiving drama broadcasts from the mid-’70s.
At 154 daily episodes, this remains the longest adaptation of Jang Hee Bin by episode count.
A special was aired on January 31st, 1972 - two days after broadcast had concluded.
Women of Legend: Jang Hee Bin (MBC, 1981)
The first season of Women of Legend (MBC, 1981~1982) was actually going to be another adaption of the Hanjungrok, but the production was scrapped and Jang Hee Bin became the first season instead. Series writer Im Chung would later on write two adaptations of the Hanjungrok (Oh, Heaven! for KBS in 1988, and the King’s Pathway for MBC in 1998).
This adaptation became MBC’s highest rated drama during its broadcast.
The late Kim Mu Saeng played the role of Jo Sa Seok both in this version and Jang Hee Bin (SBS, 1995).
During broadcast, Lee Mi Suk, Lee Hye Suk (Queen Inhyeon) and Lee Miji (Queen Ingyeong) were referred to as the Three Beautiful Musketeers (미녀 삼총사).
Director Yu Gil Chon’s brother Yu In Chon was selected to play the role of Sukjong. Yu In Chon is currently South Korea’s Minister of Culture.
In 1986, Lee Mi Suk admitted that mixed reactions were given to her portrayal. She elaborated that older people hated her character, while younger women related to and empathized with the character.
This adaptation broadcasted on Mondays and Tuesdays at first, but was moved to Wednesdays and Thursdays from Episode 37.
Lee Mi Suk’s portrayal of Jang Hee Bin was popular with men at the time, as the way she acted in front of Sukjong was considered to be cute.
This adaptation and SBS’ 1995 remake are loosely based on the Records of Queen Inhyeon, a compilation of memoirs by Lady Lee, one of Queen Inhyeon’s court ladies.
500 Years of Joseon: Queen Inhyeon (MBC, 1988)
Actor Kim Seok Ok played the role of Queen Inhyeon’s stepmother both in 500 Years of Joseon: Queen Inhyeon (MBC, 1988) and Jang Hee Bin (KBS, 2002)
Kim Myeong Hee played the role of Ok Jeong’s shaman here as well as in KBS’ adaptation, for which she is more famous.
Jeon In Hwa and Lee Deok Hwa took up the roles of Jang Ok Jeong and Jang Hee Jae respectively. They would become brother and sister once more in SBS’ 2001 drama Ladies in the Palace.
Jeon In Hwa’s portrayal of Jang Hee Bin was not initially popular until her reentry into the Palace in Episode 27, as her graceful and elegant aura was seen as too in contrast to the conniving characters of MBC’s previous portrayals.
This adaptation is heavily based on the Joseon Annals, as opposed to the Records of Queen Inhyeon.
The poison scene in this adaptation was famous for Sukjong ordering that one of the doors be used to restrain Ok Jeong as she was fed the poison. This portrayal would be repeated in KBS’ 2002 adaptation.
Jang Hee Bin (SBS, 1995)
SBS’ 1995 adaptation uses the same script as MBC’s 1981 adaptation, written by Im Chung.
Im Chung’s son Im Ho took the role of Sukjong. Im Ho is world famous for his role as Jungjong in Dae Jang Geum (MBC, 2003).
Eom Yu Shin played the role of Prince Sungseon’s wife both in the 1995 and 2002 adaptations of Jang Hee Bin. She also played the role of Jang Hee Bin’s mother in MBC’s 1988 adaptation.
The 1995 adaptation was supposed to be broadcast after SBS’ 1994 drama Auld Lang Syne, but was delayed because of trouble finding a lead actor. Sandglass was broadcasted instead.
Jeong Seon Gyeong was only casted after refusals from Lee Young Ae, Kang Su Yeon and Shin Eun Jeong. Lee Young Ae would soon after become the lead actor of KBS’ West Palace.
This adaptation achieved ratings of up to 43%, but began to suffer during the broadcasts of KBS’ West Palace and Jang Nok Su.
Child actor Lee Jeong Hu played Queen Inhyeon in her first three years after entering the Palace. Kim Won Hee replaced her when Queen Inhyeon turned 18. Lee Jeong Hu died of cancer on December 10, 2016, at the age of 30.
The poison scene in Episode 63 is considered to be the closest in historical dramas to an accurate portrayal of what actually happens when someone drinks Joseon’s government arsenic poison.
The scene is also reputed for Jeong Seon Gyeong’s sudden retaliation in kicking the bowl of poison from a court lady’s hands.
Jang Hee Bin (KBS, 2002)
The lead role was first offered to Lee Young Ae, Song Yun Ah, Kang Su Yeon, Chae Shi Ra and Kim Hyeon Ju before Kim Hye Su took up the role.
Even so, audience reactions were not initially positive to her being chosen, saying that she was too glamorous for the role. Public opinion began to change once Ok Jeong gained the rank of Suk Won in Episode 24.
With 16 previous years of acting experience, Kim Hye Su is the most experienced actor to take the role of Jang Hee Bin.
Kim Hye Su’s casting also broke the tradition of casting young rookies for the role of Jang Hee Bin.
The ratings once dropped to as low as 6%, but its final episode garnered a 31.1% rating.
The show’s original writer Kim Seon Young is not only the first woman to write a televised adaptation of Jang Hee Bin, but also the first woman to write an authentic historical drama (정통사극). The format has been dominated by male writers since its import to Korea in 1981 through KBS’ The Grand Order.
A rivalry was brewing between production manager Kim Sang Hun and Outdoor Filming Director Han Cheol Gyeong, which escalated into an assault incident.
The show’s latter half was written by Kang Tae Wan, rumored to be 1st-generation TV writer Shin Bong Seung under a pseudonym. Shin wrote the 500 Years of Joseon adaptation in 1988.
Kim Eul Dong, portraying Court Lady Kwon (Hee Bin’s court lady) is the mother of Song Il Guk, who portrayed Western Faction activist Kim Chun Taek.
The role of Choi Suk Bin was offered to Kim Gyu Ri, Choi Yu Jeong and Hong Eun Hee before being given to Park Ye Jin from April 9th, 2003. The first three potential candidates happened to be filming for movies when the role was offered.
At 100 hour-long episodes, this remains the longest adaptation by runtime.
Dong Yi (MBC, 2010)
Some of the State Tribunal’s clothes were previously worn in Queen Seondeok (MBC, 2009).
Jang Hee Bin’s character was written much differently than in previous dramas. Her character was meant to be more mature, driven to her decisions out of support for her family and faction. However, while the show itself was successful, Lee So Yeon’s portrayal was often referred to as ‘uninteresting’.
Extra Choi Na Gyeong (not to be confused with flautist Jasmine Choi) gained much popularity after the broadcast of Episode 36 on July 28th, 2010, featuring as a Court Inspector during the Head Inspector's arrest. Referred to as the Tibetan Court Lady (티벳 궁녀) due to her perceived resemblance to the Tibetan fox, she would later on feature in a daily drama and a sitcom. Choi Na Gyeong also became the model for a character in mobile game Master Asia, and is an avid arcade game player herself. Her cameo in Dong Yi can be seen below.
Tumblr media
Because of how differently Jang Hee Bin was written in comparison to previous adaptations, this adaptation is the first since 1968 to portray Jang Hee Bin as willingly drinking the poison that would lead to her death.
Jang Ok Jeong, Living in Love (SBS, 2013)
Despite Jang Ok Jeong’s portrayal in the drama as a fashion designer, viewers were displeased at the use of high heels and fashion mannequins, both anachronic to Joseon.
At 33 years old at the time of broadcast, Kim Tae Hee is the oldest actor to play the role of Jang Hee Bin.
The show is unfortunately considered a failure for SBS, with an average rating of only 11.3%. This puts the show behind its contemporaries Queen of Office (KBS, 13.2%) and Gu Family Book (MBC, 18.7%).
At 24 episodes, this is the shortest adaptation of Jang Hee Bin.
A historical accuracy dispute arose over the portrayal of Queen Inhyeon’s father Min Yu Jung. This led to the show being derided as a ‘fantasy drama’ by political drama fans.

Jung Yong-hwa, even if you get caught, just relax
Tumblr media
In KBS2's Monday-Tuesday drama, 'Coordinated Brain', Jung Yong-hwa and Cha Tae-hyun catch the collar.
On the 9th, in the 3rd episode of ‘Coordinated Brain’ (script Park Kyung-sun, director Lee Jin-seo, Sung-joon Seong), Jung Yong-hwa and Cha Tae-hyun are scheduled to have a sharp confrontation. In the published photo, Myung-se Geum (played by Tae-hyeon Cha) in the play counterattacks against Haru Shin (played by Yong-hwa Jung) in anger. Geummyungse gritted his teeth and grabbed Shinharu by the collar with burning eyes, while Shinharu looked at Geummyungse with a calm expression.
Then, as the tense confrontation between Geum Myung-se, who erupts with unfair feelings, and Shin Haru, who looks at such a Geum-myeong-se with calm eyes, is included, what is the reason why Geum Myung-se poured out so much resentment, stimulates curiosity.
The production team said, "Jung Yong-hwa and Cha Tae-hyun show a special collaboration, just like Shin Haru and Keum Myung-se in the play, and they show a sense of intimacy and loyalty to each other on the set." expressed,” he said.

Hotel Del Luna:
11/07/2021: There are gods (Ma Go Sin), women that look identical, but have different personalities, played by Seo Yi-Sook. Man-Wol knows them all, of course, and throughout the series one of the Ma Go Sin would give her prophecies or opinions. They love Chan-Seong. Some help Man-Wol, while one seems to want her to disappear. This God in their “riddle talk” has now made Man-Wol believe that Chan-Seong is the reincarnation of the Captain, Go Cheong-Myeong.
Chapter 14 has pulled out all of the stops. I knew Man-Wol couldn’t kill Chan-Seong, but chapter 14 made it appear that she did. Then you find out it was only a vision of her desire to kill the Captain.
Knowing that she cannot kill Chan-Seong, she gives the hair clip that the Captain had made for her, which had his blood on it, to the vengeful ghost to increase his power so he would kill Chan-Seong and she told Chan-Seong that she would no longer protect him. Chan-Seong goes to the winery where the ghost was hiding and confronted the ghost. The ghost shows the hair clip to him and began to throw him around. Chan-Seong told the ghost that he was simply wasting time waiting for the Moon to come out. Because the ghost had the hair clip , the moon would kill him.
Because Man-Wol assisted the vengeful ghost into becoming an evil ghost, when the ghost disappears Man-Wol would, too. She could not let go of the hate that she held onto for 1300 years. She had to see the reincarnated Captain killed so giving the hair clip to the vengeful ghost was basically ‘killing two birds with one stone’. The ghost would kill Chan-Seong (aka the Captain) and she has set up her own death.
The ghost finally believes Chan-Seong and throws the hair clip to the ground, whereas Chan-Seong ran and picked it up. Just as the ghost was going to kill Chan-Seong, Scholar Kim, Room Manager Choi and Hyeon-Jung of Hotel Del Luna came walking up the street and told the ghost that they would vanquish him. As the ghost turns to flee he puts his throat right in the hand of the grim reaper. They take the serial killer ghost to the hotel and into room 666 where the people he murdered are there. As the door is closed, you could hear his screams. The best line in the whole series is when Room Manager Choi states, “This room really needs to be soundproofed”.
The tragedy of Man-Wol’s life continues. My heart goes out to her for this is all unfair. Chapter 14 is extremely emotional. When you watch have your box of tissues ready. This chapter also tells you that Hotel Del Luna was created and named by Man-Wol and her first guest had been the Captain (the firefly) unbeknownst to her.
Chan-Seong brings Yeon Woo and Mi-Ra to the hotel. They are given a special cocktail that will allow Man-Wol to see the past from their perspective. Through their eyes she is able to see that the Captain did not plan the betrayal. It was the Princess telling him that it was known that he was befriending the Nomad and if her father would find out, he and all that he knew would be killed. I do not know why he chose to betray the Nomad who had welcomed him into their group. The betrayal of Man-Wol caused the death of everyone in his town anyway. He could have warned them and they would have survived.
Holding the hair clip, she sees some of the Captain’s memories. She sees Yeon Wu telling him to let her live. Man-Wol is standing by her tree when Ma Go Sin tells her that Go Cheong-Myeong had always been there, the first to have arrived at her hotel. She also told her that for 1300 years she has never muttered his name and if she would call him he would appear before her. She does so and he appears. She tells him if he has anything else to say she would listen. He states that he has no more excuses and then says, “so this is the end of us?”
He changes back to being a firefly and Ma Go Sin tells her that he must be sent off or he would simply dissipate. Man-Wol and Chan-Seong take him to Samdocheon. Man-Wol states that she would accompany him and she would return. Seeing that Chan-Seong was fearful she told him, “wait”.
Will tell you more later…
