Luis’ ‘Secret’ Death Cutscene

I don’t actually know how many people here on Tumblr know about this, so I figured I’d make a post- But in Seperate Ways during the part of the game where you have to rescue Luis from his burning lab, if you stand juuuuuuuuust outside of where he is but don’t actually go IN to save him, you get this special cutscene!!!!!!!!

And I just find the whole thing S O INTERESTING. Like,,,, first of all, we technically have a second (or third if you count the OG (and I’m not sure if there are any other cutscenes like this so correct me if I’m wrong!!)) Death for Luis!!!!!!! And it’s a goddamn poignant one at that too!!!!!!!!!

Like,,, first off; obviously, we have the paralells to his Grandfather burning in his childhood home. The fact that if it weren’t for Ada, there would’ve been a VERY REAL chance that Luis dies the same way his Grandfather died is just,,,,,, S O HEARTBREAKING TO ME?????????? Like Luis has a pretty repetitive theme of him almost dying in significant locations (If it weren’t for Leon, he would’ve died in a body bag underneath his childhood home) and unlike his Grandfather, who at least got to WRITE him a LETTER, he would’ve died in the exact same tragic way too!!!!!!! MAN!!!!!!

And then there’s the whole scene in general; A core part of Luis’ character is that he wants to do ANYTHING to survive. Not in a, ‘save your own skin’ kind of way, but he wants to survive because he wants to CHANGE. He wants to make a POSITIVE IMPACT and atone for his actions; he wants to get out so he can show the world he isn’t a monster and he wants to find love and meaning in life. Hell, he was even about to FISTFIGHT THE DAMN MONKS in that prison cell- THATS how desperate he was to get out and live and thrive!!!!!!!

Yet here he is, literally throwing himself into a burning building and- in this case- DYING without a second thought. He has to literally tear himself away from Ada to run into the lab

Because goddamnit he CARES SO MUCH ABOUT LEON AND ASHLEY AND ADA!!!!!!!! He would LITERALLY DIE for them!!!!!!!!!! He is NOT in this to save his own skin, CLEARLY- he sees his chance to finally show SOMEBODY he can do good and to HELP S O M E O N E for ONCE in his life, and he sees that goodness and that love in Leon and the rest of them- and he would do ANYTHING to help them get out, even if it meant throwing away his chance to live and escape Valdelobos.

And he doesn’t even hesitate, either?????? Like I said he literally has to rip himself away from Ada to run into the BURNING DAMN BUILDING cuz he’s that desperate and that was his first thought!!!!!!!!!!

And if Ada hadn’t gotten there in time, he WOULD have died. He would have died exactly like his grandfather; and he would have died with the world thinking he was the villain. He would have died having his actions only ever do bad. Even if he didn’t mean them to. He would have died in the middle of nowhere with no legacy to his name-

And worst of all, he wouldn’t have figured out to get the suppressants for Leon Ashley and Ada. He would’ve died, and Leon and Ashley would have had no idea. They probably would’ve thought he just,,, run off. They’d have no clue how hard he fought to help them.

i was just talking to my dad about how i want to do more stuff with the babies in stardew valley so i decided id make a post detailing all my wishes. if you know me personally you know that my biggest dream is a sdv-esque game where relationships r the focus and the farms the second thing, so these ideas probably would fit better in a game like that. but I DONT CARE and i LOVE THE LITTLE BABIES and i WANT TO PLAY WITH THEM

i want to take my baby everywhere if its a newborn i understand keeping it in the crib all day, but i wanna carry the baby!!! even if i just hold it over my head like an item. i want to carry my baby and interact with villagers and have them go "aww cute baby!" or if my characters a boy i want clint to go "aw haha babysitting today are you?" and i want to go "NO!!!!!!!!! IM RAISING MY CHILD!!!!!!!!!!!!!"'" and then put down my child and beat them up. when the baby is a toddler i want them to be able to follow me anywhere and ride on my horse with me (or, alternatively, have to run really fast behind me to catch up with my horse) and i wanna be able to take my child to the mines, and if i get knocked out in the mines, i want my spouse to fucking berate me and drop me down to 4 hearts and im NOT JOKING!!!!!!! i want to play with my baby it can just be an animation of the farmer sitting on the floor with blocks or something, and it can serve no purpose other than to pass the time IDC!!! we could play hide n seek on the farm or tag with my spouse and other kids or there could be a little minigame like journey of the prairie king or something. but with babies. i want it to be EXACTLY journey of the prairie king actually, i think you should be able to teach your toddler how to play like in abigails 2 heart cutscene and its ai is like so fucking bad at the game cuz therye 4 years old and you have to carry it thru all the levels. i wanna go to the beach with my baby and have them have a cute little animation of them splashing in the shallow water or watch them chase around my dog. i want goddamn COCOMELON ON THE TV!!! i want to make npcs babysit my baby i want it to be a requirement that your kid has to have someone looking after them. by default penny is like the only npc who will always say yes so its not Fucking impossible, but if i have like 8 hearts w someone i should be able to go to their house, baby in tow, and ask "hey can you look after my baby?" and theyll say yes but like it or dislike it depending on who they are. i want funny dialogue about what my kid said or if they missed me if we have low hearts. i want to force my farmhands to babysit my baby too. again i want my spouse to drop hearts with me if i go leave the baby unattended

i want to teach my baby things ive never really cared for the babies growing up past toddler age, but i want to teach them how to do things. i want them to get up at like 12pm, waddle outside, stare at a singular tile of plant for 40 in game minutes before holding the watering can above their little head and spilling it everywhere on the dirt. i want to buy my baby a teeny tiny fishing rod and teach it to fish, and i want my baby to fish exclusively trash until its level 9. i want my baby to plant wild seeds in random spots on the farm and get sad if they dont bloom. i want to take my baby to the goddamn mines !!!!! i want my baby to give me random things it picked up. and if i let slimes in the house i want that baby to FUCKING KILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this has been a list of things i want in the stardew valley baby update. everyone hates the kids but i LOVE having little babies running around and i want them to do more. and i think i want to do more things with my spouse too while im at it, and i also want to hug my friends. but one thing at a time. one baby at a time

I'm one of the people who got the achievement of the survival mode in FAITH despite not having the GCB achievement (supposedly a bug that will be fixed in a patch).

So I thought, why not try actually getting the achievement for real? I hope Airdorf doesn't remove at least the background I unlocked via the bug bc i love the background and I may have to throw the towel bc the challenge is HARD.

And Im saying it as someone who thinks playing this game is RELAXING of all things.

I'm not lying. I don't find it scary. It has become a comfort game of sort. Like hollow knight. I die a lot, still love to just jump in. It's also one of the few things I can do recently bc it occupies my mind and hands in a way that doesn't require much of my recovering self.

I have completed marathon mode a few times and I know where the jumpscares are etc. But I still die.

Some highlights:

Dying because I CANT SHOOT MICHAEL AT THE END OF CHAPTER 1 bc I'm one (1) pixel too low and the bullet misses him. Sobbing.

Dying at the goddamn I'M AN ANGEL guy in chapter 2 bc the hitbox of the umbilical cord (?) is annoying af.

Dying to the baby ghost. So far I've found a strategy: hiding closest to the hands. It can reach me but the fight can take ages.

I also played world of horror and loved it and GOT ALL THE ACHIEVEMENTS but that was because roguelikes are not good for my ocd apparently.

I have just learned of the auto fire glitch. Might try it out, wonder if it works on steam deck. I also wonder if it's a problem for the camera section in the hotel.

Lmfao.... Ok so it's kind of embarrassing now that I'm flipping through this sketchbook again, but I was for real actually 12 years old when I came up with this stuff and was just a kid having fun so I can't be THAT embarrassed by it haha

So, I somehow ended up with MGS2 for the PS2 back in circa 2005. Metal Gear Ray was the COOLEST goddamn thing I had ever seen in my LIFE (it's still cool tbf) so I had to incorporate it into my stick figure comicbook ASAP. I drew it from memory and got its head all wrong but, like I said, I was literally 12 and only had my memory of the short cutscene to go off of lmfao

This was the 5th of the comics I made in this sketchbook. It's titled The Bob Stories #5 and has the symbol for my character in it. The main character, Bob, is drawn in indigo; my persona [Deadname] is drawn in purple, Toby (who didn't scan well at all!!) is in neon orange, Joe in turquoise, and Kyoto in black. Bob's whole thing was fire magic and his special ability was picking up rocks and turning them into fireballs. Him and Joe were mortal enemies. Bob wears a black and orange bandanna worn bandit-style, covering the entire top of his head, and Joe wears sunglasses. Joe teleports into the first panel Terminator-style. Bob points at him, saying "YOU!". The rift in space-time from Joe's teleporting caused two Kyotos to appear. Bob and Joe start fighting while [Deadname] and Toby get bored and leave. In the last panel, one of the Kyotos turns into a character drawn in orange, Irifinagon. Bob and Joe stop fighting to fight this new guy. Kyoto was actually a friend's OC that I kind of adopted into my comics. I didn't design or name him.

Bob does a powerup and removes his bandanna, revealing a powerful mullet. Irifinagon gets crushed by Fazre, who teleports on top of him with a crackle of static. He charges up a big laser attack while Joe and Kyoto chop at him with swords and shuriken and Bob charges a big fire blast. Bob and Fazre's energy attacks collide but Fazre's is stronger and incapacitates Bob while Joe does a sick flip over their colliding lasers. Joe then throws his sword into Fazre's mouth before he charges another attack.

Bob steams on the ground while Joe tries a lightning attack on Fazre. It does nothing and then Fazre bites his head off. Kyoto chops off Fazre's tail while Bob gets back on his feet and charges a double fireball. Fazre turns into Irifinagon for some reason and says that he will be back while the ghost possessing Joe, and the source of his powers, Kyle, floats out of the decapitated corpse of Joe.

Kyle heals Joe and then possesses him again. Joe is not pleased and says "Stupid spirit..." while Bob and Kyoto spectate.

and i vividly recall alcryst always dealing the final blow.

atp if alcryst dies in-battle then it’s fuckin over for all of us

alcryst died once at some point and i immediately went to the time crystal

he’s like my only maxed out character and i am not risking the chances of losing a wet towel of a menace

one crit and its all over for the enemy

kagetsu had like 8% crit chance and landed on like more than 10 crits in a row.

i like but also dislike the lack of characters in each cutscene. like wtf was everyone else doing when griss was talking to alear? they were clearly right there??? right???

then get his ass. sneak up on that bitch and STAB HIM IN THE GUT OR SMTH.

this game has so many plot holes. way too many that i can’t even think of one.

like half of the casualties in the plot could’ve been avoided if we used that damn time stone. framme was so fuckin right about using the time stone to stop florra port from getting destroyed. use your brains y’all!!! USE IT!!!

my opinion on marni drastically changed when she immediately switched up. it really felt rushed but i really like how her va portrayed marni’s feelings.

mauvier’s character is great‼️ he’s just bland‼️that’s all‼️

the battle was pretty easy ngl. alcryst (as always) landed the final blow on veyle.

the cutscenes were awkwardly put together ngl. like the cutscene where veyle is crying over alear’s dead body, vander and alfred are just 🧍

i mean ig it could work as a parallel cutscene to lumera’s death but still.

why tf were they just standing there. they were most likely standing in shock but at least make them closer to alear’s body or smth omg.

i started the battle in chapter 22 w/o knowing that alear was the only one who could get the rings…

so my dumbass made alcryst waltz to lyn’s ring and i realized that i fucked up

had to use the time crystal and go back 2 turns to the very beginning

and replay the battle from scratch.

pandreo (once again) was a fuckin trooper and carried everyone

the emblem rings i assigned the everyone was lowkey random but i let the ai do it for me since i am a lazy fuck

so there was uhhhh alear/roy, alcryst/lyn, kagetsu/lucina, pandreo/corrin (later changed to micaiah), seadall/byleth, rosado/eirika (changed to corrin), clanne/celica, zelkov/eirika, alfred/sigurd, merrin/leif (originally ike) and timerra/ike

i sorta did change timerra’s class to picket pretty late so she kinda died in almost everything but its ok i still love her

i wanted to play around w/ the change class mechanic on the benched units i had (i wanted to give diamant exposure therapy through sage class)

i actually have a good strategy that i didn’t even get to use and i’m pissed.

this is just a one shot alcryst centered strategy. 1) make alcryst engage w/ lyn and dispel doubles, 2) pandreo uses rescue and teleports alcryst close to him n seadall, 3) seadall uses dance on alcryst, 4) astra storm that bitch w/ those sweet chain attacks‼️

this could also help w/ lucina’s all for one skill.

seadall’s dance was a life saver in every battle.

alcryst, kagetsu pandreo and merrin are the biggest carries in my team atm

alear is just… there

in conclusion? always take out the villain when they least expect it.

griss in post-battle chapter 20 telling alear the big fell dragon thing? get his ass from behind.

hyacinth just standing there at chapter 10? pop his old bones

when sombron appeared before alear died? just yank the helmet off of veyle’s head. marni cracked it ffs.

I saw your Pokemon posts and god you're so right. I work in shipping and. fucking. There's a new major release of merch by Pokemon that my company handles *literally* every month. Sometimes more!!!!!! A N D (because of course just that isn't enough) other minor merch releases in between!!!! AND WE DONT EVEN SHIP CLOSE TO EVERYTHING THEY PUT OUT. it was. Such an unpleasantly eye opening experience (I'm a very big pokemon fan but had to stop doing it in any capacity for a while when I got poor a few years ago) and it's. Upsetting. To see this thing I loved so much throughout most of my life become fully and completely drained of just? Life? Its just a cash crop at this point and I see so much about how they're doing legitimately some cool things and I know by that that people making the games are trying so goddamn hard and I want so badly to love it but it's just. Not there. I dunno I'm just rambling. It makes me sad.

It's especially sad because it is apparent that people working on the games and the like do still care about doing shit with it. Scarlet and Violet aren't lazy games. They're rushed games worked on by a crew a faction of the size they need. And it's really sad. Like if you place the games next to Xenoblade Chronicles it's just...Depressing. The sheer difference in just about everything. The cutscenes are better, the framerate is better, the textures are better, the quality of life features are better, the world is better. The gameplay loop of Violet is very satisfying and I love it a lot but every time I get to go inside a building I just feel a bit sad knowing there aren't many interiors and that the towns will never be as fun as the ones in older games. Or apparently Arceus' one town. And like with this game and the things that Arceus has that it doesn't it just feels like if Gamefreak were given the time and staff (and likely some help from a team that's better at this than they are) they might be able to put out something as nice as a Xenoblade. But they can't because the merch engine demands more pokemon at a very consistent rate. Also jeez I knew there was a lot of merch but I wasn't aware of just. The volume of it? Or that it comes in multiple waves. I don't really care about pokemon very much anymore outside of the occasional intrigue about the games so I don't really watch the merch cycles at all. I suppose it's unsurprising given how big TPC is on pushing product and how said product is where the bulk of profits is coming from.

and even though the majority said at the beginning (aka, mihoyo, pretty much any other streamer and the larger part of the fanbase) that ur meant for support, he said fuck that and built u as his main dps

and i won’t lie, u do more damage than any of his characters, and ppl who co op with him

SPOILERS 1. I actually enjoyed latest quest, but it had issues. One of genshin's problems is clearly pacing and boring characters. This time, because Bennett existed, + paimon experienced consequences, there was something for Alby n Eula to bounce off. We got some bennett depression, Eula sweetness, and a squeeze of Albedo's polite + mean personality (like in midsummer islands). So I even enjoyed the less serious parts of the quest! Abt the serious parts: the whopperflower reveal was lame,

but the real imposter kept my hopes alive, (they'll die in 4 days) I actually liked the final cutscene of Albedo and his clone walking off to have an offscreen clone fight to decide real and fake. Happen on-screen though, please. Albedo fluctuates between boring and fun, but this time he was fun, basically. His wording (imperfect humans) also serve as indirect characterisation, showing Albedo feels incomplete/inadequate. Some new drama? Perhaps even the beginning of a character arc?

Sadly it takes way too long. Stuff like Alby's being interested in Bennett’s luck is dragged out by Amber+Eula's obligatory response lines. Eula successfully showing she’s a tsundere is ruined by Amber needlessly telling us she’s a tsundere. Albedo's ending characterisation is buried under 3 Goddamn Paragraphs of glassblowing metaphors! Genshin straight up has to halve their scripts. Also stunned the characters just brush off painting people to life. Chairs are that exciting, huh?

My impression of the event was Mihoyo playing things safe. Not in the sense that they don't want to rock the boat, but in the sense that they really didn't want to try too much here. This was absolutely the easiest way they could've written this event -

They skirted around all possible conflict even though they had a lot to work with (Eula not believing Albedo about the imposter because why would she, Eula's family heritage causing discord in the Guild, Bennett's bad luck causing issues for the group, Albedo's damn imposter)

They didn't really bother engaging with the mystery - there was no investigation phase, no suspects, no drama, no consequences for the imposter's actions. Even the Joel incident didn't lead to anything, and it's not like it ever mattered that the Adventurer's Guild were there (realisitically; just an excuse to get Eula, Amber and Bennett on the mountain).

Very little was actually done with either imposter besides Joel and the avalanche. There being so many people on the mountain to interact with seems like an excellent time for oh, I don't know, there being two Albedos to actually cause problems. I'm not sure what to do with the implication that the Whopperflower might have been made by the failed specimen? Which leads to...

Albedo just unloads his backstory on you almost completely unprompted twice. It's not like he was backed into a corner and had to explain why there might be two Albedos, or what the other one might want (by, say, a group of stressed people that are being tormented by a murderous Albedo imposter). He just takes you aside twice and tells you because he, what, likes you so much?

The conversations that are had by the party are mostly just discussing each other's character traits rather than developing any dynamics, and it's not like anything particularly interesting is discussed or new is brought up. There's no drama despite them being in a very tense situation, Eula and Albedo walked back their established characterisation somewhat and I don't even think Eula, Amber or Bennett added anything worthwhile to the event besides some cute moments.

It just strikes me as very safe, easy writing, rather than attempting anything exciting. And, yeah, the cutscene at the end was the final nail in this event's coffin because it just kind of highlights that we could've had a much cooler event than we actually did.

Let me hit up two big topics before we dive in, for the maybe five people who will read this and the one of you who was awaiting this but already knows the deal: Firstly, the five month absence of anything from me was the result of work getting super busy (STOP MAKING YOUR MOVIES TWO AND A HALF HOURS LONG, HOLLYWOOD, NOBODY ACTUALLY WANTS THAT). 1) Lana/Koth (and by extension Saarai/Lana/Koth) - this one actually started as a silly animatic idea to the song “Sorry I Stole Your Girlfriend” by Stereo Skyline (which, yes, is also where their ship name comes from ;) XD) which I shared with one of my friends on Discord (who afaik doesn’t have a tumblr, but they’re gr8 and I love them very much owo), and then in a cider-tipsy 3am revelation my brain gremlins took control and put to me the idea of “But what if they ALL kissed?” basically. Fren encouraged me to do it bc they thought it sounded cute af, and around that time I also started vibing with Bagel over Discord, who further jumped on the “polyam triad gremlin train” and that was that. So y’all can blame my anonymous amazing Discord friend and @darth-bagel for encouraging me to make the OT3 a thing even tho there was pretty much NO content of the sort (I think there’s one other Lana/Koth fic on AO3??) So this is literally a case of:

2) Sith Inquisitor(F! mostly for me but ya know, I think M!Inquisitor could work just as well :’3)/Andronikos: at first I was very reticent to try this one, bc I started out with a M!Inq and I was worried Andronikos would be like Doc 2.0, but I saw a lot of nice fanfics for them and decided to try it out with Ni’kasi and that’s it. I love them now. I would die for them just as much as the OT3 XD

3) F!Jedi Consular/F!Sith Warrior: Again, because there is just a stunning lack of this content on AO3, see the gif in #1 😂  This is 100% Ariano’s fault, they’ve wormed their way into my angstyfluff brainrot. This pairing has so much potential guys. THE DRAMA. THE ✨A N G S T✨ I cannot talk about it enough 🥺

Honourable mentions for: Jaesa/Vette and Ashara/Jaesa which are rlly darn cute, and also bc it was the first longfic I ever read, and idk the author’s tumblr or if they’re even active anymore, but I need to go back and re-read the fic one day: F!Jedi Knight/F!Sith Warrior and Jaesa/Vette/Kira because the way they wrote them in that fic was so good I cri ;A;

N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice)

1) Repeatable 👏 Companion 👏 and 👏 romance 👏 cutscenes!!! BIOWARE. GIVE ME. NOW. I don’t care if it’s the same 3 - 4 animations/cutscenes that can be replayed at my leisure/whenever I want, I WANT IT. ghsyugyudfd

2) More vanilla companion and romance content in general. A lot of my toons have romanced either Koth or Lana so we get a fair bit in KOTFEET but after that even they haven’t had much. Poor Vano hasn’t had a decent convo with Vette, who she considers like a sister, since her re-recruitment in KOTFE. GIVE ME CONTENT, DEVS, I MISS THEM *stamps my tiny feet* Also, leading in from this: more “neutral”/non-romance dialogue options without having to be a dick to ppl, please?!?! Just bc I don’t wanna smash doesn’t mean I wanna be mean (to everyone. Some of them deserve it, but most of them, I would actually like to be friends with, pwease?! XD)

3) More varied companions!! There’s a whole goddamn galaxy of REALLY COOL interesting species, why are like 90% of our perma-companions all human Bioware?! I know you can do better than that. Gimme more Purebloods, Nautolans, Mirialans, hell, every species tbh. I just think they’re neat ok.

Honourable mentions: POLYAM RELATIONSHIPS IN CANON: LET ME KISS THEM BOTH BIOWARE, YOU COWARDS! ✨ Vaylin “redemption” arc ✨ (and by that I don’t necessarily mean that she has to join the Alliance but at least a tiny sort of rapport with an Outlander who is willing to try enough to plant the thought in her head that they hate Valkorion as much as she does, who can help Vaylin get away from all the conditioning and let her disappear off to Voss or wherever she needs to go to heal herself from all that trauma bc Vaylin deserved better goddammit!), more “repeatable” content in KOTFEET style, I know it’s probably reaching/impossible but I really want the option to rerun the class stories without having to make another clone ok. I’m gonna run outta those slots eventually bioware P L S 🥺 , options to “recruit” long-running NPCs from the other expacs that we never see again e.g. Cytharat and others I can’t think of rn but like...lemme?? pls, bioware 🥺🥺, aaanddd finally, more female companions that aren’t your padawan/apprentice/significantly at a power loss in comparison to you??? it’s super creepy c’mon ughh.
