YOU WANNA TALK TERMS AND CONDITIONS?
uconn senior paige bueckers has her eyes on one thing: a national championship. after a long road back from injury and a season of almosts, she’s determined to block out anything that might knock her focus, especially the secret she’s been keeping since junior year. nevaeh ‘nevi’ batista, co captain of the cheer squad and completely off limits, was never supposed to be more than a passing distraction. but now, with everything on the line and no one knowing they even know each other, paige and nevi are walking a tightrope between control and collapse, trying not to fall for something that was never supposed to matter in the first place.
FINE—
authors note. i have a couple of updates for my supporters and donors… they’re finally here after me tweaking the plot 700 times! updates will probably be inconsistent like always, but i will have a lot more free time after exams end. i’m thinking of making an actual tag list for this (surprise, surprise) so just let me know if you wanna be added. missing uconn paige like a sad baby rn so this was only right. dallas p up next doe!
includes. switch of point of views. sexual content, 18+. secret relationship / situationship, mentions of injury, emotional repression, internalized pressure / performance anxiety, toxic tendencies, daddy issues, mentions of sexuality, angst, intoxication, lots of cheer squad names (not really important), the sharing of intimate content, subtle manipulation, etc. not real interpretations of paige or the uconn wbb team (or geno), fair warning that you’ll probably hate nevi sometimes, but she’s pretty so she gets a pass!
YOU DON’T EVEN LIKE ME.
THAT’S THE ONLY WAY THIS WORKS.
playlist. songs i associate heavily with paige and nevi! you’ll see why, sooner or later…
tell your friends, the weeknd. “last year, i did all the politickin,’ this year i’ma focus on the vision.”
slut! (taylor’s version) (from the vault), taylor swift. “i said it might blow up in your pretty face, i’m not saying do it anyway, but you’re going to.”
GREEDY, partynextdoor drake. “this is not conventional, this is not traditional, this is unprofessional, but these are my confessions though.”
loose, daniel caesar. “if you ever start to wonder why all the rain and all the thunder follows her around, you better cut that girl loose. what are you, a coward?”
faking it, calvin harris kehlani lil yachty funk wav. “why you, why you, say let go if you’re still holding it? just a little bit better at faking it than me, baby.”
connect, drake. “i remember when my schedule was as flexible as she is, she call me and tell me be here before the sun up, i be dressed before we hung up.”
bad religion, frank ocean. “if it brings me to my knees… it’s a bad religion.”
drinking and driving, jhene aiko. “so i need you tell me that you love me some more, put your hands on my body as my clothes hit the floor.”
none of ur friends business, ginuwine. “but i don’t give a damn, long as it’s me you trust, ‘cause i can’t get down with your clique.”
don’t matter to me, drake. “you wanted me to gon’ put my hands on you just to show you i love you. you know i can’t jeopardize both our reputations.”
goodnight n go, ariana grande. “it’s bad enough we get along so well, just say goodnight and go.”
& more tba!
chapters. all t&c chapters will be linked here, from start to finish!
one. don’t look too long.
two. reintroductions are a cruel sport.
three. it’s purple.

˚₊‎‧♡‧₊˚ welcome - 0.0 (intro)
For years, a vast stretch of land just outside Tokyo’s beating heart had been draped in secrecy. It sat quietly, like a slumbering giant, only fifteen minutes from the city’s restless hum, yet worlds away from prying eyes. Tall walls and guarded gates kept it hidden, while the murmur of construction whispered through the air. It was as if the earth itself had been stirring beneath the surface, preparing for something grand, though no one quite knew what. Rumors danced through the city—some claimed it was the site of a new stadium, others a corporate headquarters.
Then, as if the secret could no longer be contained, the truth was finally revealed.
The land had been transformed—not into a simple complex, but into a world of its own. A sprawling, exclusive sports facility, rivaling anything ever seen before. This was no ordinary venue. The gates would not open to the public, nor would casual spectators ever stroll its paths. Instead, a self-contained village now stood where dirt and machinery had once ruled—a place carved out for only the best of the best.
Here, in this enclave, Japan’s finest young athletes were to be housed, nurtured, and tested. Handpicked from high schools across the country, they came not just to compete, but to stake their claim on something far greater. This was the All-Japan Youth Summer Games—where talent would be sharpened to its finest edge, and where the fire of competition would burn hottest under the summer sky.

Read the full call to action here.
Tomorrow, November 29th, the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, the #BDS movement is calling for an all day social media storm. Our physical and digital actions can be used together to strengthen our demands: Permanent ceasefire and lifting the siege to stop Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Lawful sanctions on Israel, including a #MilitaryEmbargo. Pressure on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue arrest warrants for Israeli leaders. Click here for prepared messages and images to use for the social media storm. Over the last 7 weeks, millions of you have taken to the streets for the largest protests the world has seen in the last 20 years! We are grateful to each one of you who, through your voices and creative actions, have built up unprecedented grassroots power to end Israel’s genocidal war against 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza. Yet, Western governments are continuing to arm, fund and provide political cover for Israel’s genocide. We must act urgently to end all state, corporate and institutional complicity with Israel’s genocidal apartheid regime. Palestinian lives and livelihoods literally depend on it. To this end, and as time has shown, BDS is the most effective form of solidarity with the Palestinian liberation struggle. Tomorrow, we call for escalating worldwide peaceful mobilizations and expressions of meaningful solidarity to stop the genocide including: 1. Whenever feasible, organizing peaceful disruptions, sit-ins, occupations, etc. targeting  policymakers, as well as the corporate enablers of genocide and apartheid (arms manufacturers, investment firms), and institutions (media, universities, cultural spaces, etc.). 2. Disrupting the transport of weapons, or weapon parts, to Israel, including in transit states, by supporting trade unions refusing to handle such shipments, as has been done in Belgium, US, and the Spanish State, and as expressed by trade unions in India, Turkey, Italy and Greece.  3. Pressuring parliaments and governments to cancel existing military contracts and agreements with Israel, as Colombia’s president publicly espoused, and as demanded by the BDS movement in Brazil, a demand supported by civil society and more than 60 parliamentarians in the country. 4. Intensifying all strategic economic boycott and divestment campaigns against complicit corporations, and escalating campaigns to cut all ties to apartheid Israel and its complicit academic and cultural institutions as well as sports teams. Mobilizing your community, trade union, association, church, social network, student government/union, city council, cultural center, or other organization to declare itself an Apartheid Free Zone (AFZ) on November 29th, if it hasn’t already, and organize a solidarity event or action on November 29th. 5. Pressuring your elected officials, where relevant, through direct communication or collective direct action, to demand real pressure on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to urgently prosecute Netanyahu and all other Israeli officials responsible for genocide, apartheid, and war crimes. If not now, when? In solidarity, The Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC)

MISS DIPLOMAT & MR. CHARMING |
dominik szoboszlai x female reader.
Tumblr media
author's note: this handsome man's living rent-free in my head. he's a freaking masterpiece. talented, funny, charismatic, attractive. i watched interviews, tiktok videos made by supporters and much more to understand a little bit of his language, personality and what he does towards friends and loved ones. laughed a lot! i made my homework as a writer, hope you enjoy it! (compliments and any kind of retributions are more than welcomed).
summary: your job is involving the commitment of unify the population and create interrelations to another countries, using the eurocup qualifiers and the hungary national team executions. you just didn't expect to fall in love with the no. 10's captain player.
words and characters: 1,811/11,223. it was three days working too hard on this story. i'm begging for your consideration, lol.
────
sports diplomacy: it's the unique power of sport to bring people, nations, and communities closer together via a shared love of physical pursuits. this responsibility is the reason of a transition between strangers to connected individuals, advancing foreign policy goals and augmenting sport for development initiatives. the complex landscape where sport, politics, and diplomacy overlap become clearer, as do the pitfalls of using sport as a tool for overcoming and mediating separation between people, nonstate actors, and states. the power of sport has never been more important. so far, the 21st century has been dominated by disintegration, introspection, and the retreat of the nation-state from the globalization agenda. in such an environment, scholars, students, and practitioners of international relations are beginning to rethink how sport might be used to tackle climate change, gender inequality, and the united nations sustainable development goals, for example. to boost these integrative, positive efforts is to focus on the means as well as the ends, that is, the diplomacy, plural networks, and processes involved in the role sport can play in tackling the monumental traditional and human security challenges of our time. credits: international studies association and oxford university press.
────
MLSZ (hungarian football federation) ──
new training ground at telki.
"i can't believe that being in places like this made up my most theoretically utopian childhood dreams. what a progress in front of me!" you still witness exciting moments where you pinch yourself, trying to believe in the reality that surrounds you: visiting the new training center of the players who are just a few meters away from you, getting ready to represent an entire country.
"your presence is our privilege. a voice of the spread of eurocup to our nation, right here…" the technical director gives you deference, obtaining a measure of humbleness and respect by you.
"the honor belongs to me in its entirety. grateful for having me, sir. while the view is immersive and captivating — my fervent congratulations to everyone involved — could we retreat from the pleasant glass-enclosed room and see everything closer, on the outside? please? i will never get used to this atmosphere." you pour politeness and charisma to the staffs around you, being directed to the proximity of the field and saluting the employees who pass through your path.
meet dominik — your szobo — instigates the nostalgic combination of detailed moments in which your thoughts display as photographic retrospectives. you're incapable to oppose the little enthusiastic laughs, fidgeting the rings between your fingers and avoiding possible suspicious glances from others. however, for you, this wouldn't actually work. the lives of you both are correlated, but different.
the training session is finished. clapping your hands and celebrating the performances, you greet the athletes and recognize some familiar people. nevertheless, reality slows down after those dark woody eyes capture through your soul. his arms tattoos are glorified by the sun's rays, the same illuminated smile is offered to you: that one you got during the very first time you saw him — instantly knowing he made you testimony the accuracy of freedom, catharsis and emotional amorous complement. that he'd be the one to introduce you what you never experienced, what you thought you'd never receive or deserve. what love truly is. when you were novices in your actual professions, not even imagining the future gifts of your unreal purposes.
"there you are!" intimately, dominik points at you, being reciprocated by vibrant nods and your old sort of secret — not that mysterious or serious — handshake. "még mindig emlékszel rá? (still remembering it?). you're a real one!"
"hogy tudnám elfelejteni? alábecsülsz engem. (how could i forget it? you're underestimating me)". your defensive actions demonstrate purposeful falseness. masking any sensitive, verbal or figurative communicative fragment from him is a difficulty that makes you give in over time. honestly, you never complain about this. it's like he wants to understand the factors and layers of you.
"a te kézfogás fickó. ne merészelj lecserélni engem. (your handshake man… don't you dare to replace me)". a shameless wink is send to you, butterflies acquiring space in your stomach.
"és hivatalosan is a szavamat adom rá. (and you officially have my word on it)." your gloss is pigmented against your fingers while you raise it up, displaying an oath, wondering if szoboszlai comprehends that his replacement in your life would be blasphemous.
"diplomata kisasszony, (miss diplomat)…" the hungarian fingerprints are shared and you recognize the sign to hold them, ready to perform your typical fashion icon moment. "gorgeous as always. go ahead! you know what to do!".
amusement surrounds you with the nickname's citation. although, you could feel some curious glances, from the outsiders, about the intimacy between you and him. "i appreciate, our top-class national bless…" you move your body in rotations to exclaim the outfit's characteristics, lifting your feet to show off the specificities of your heels. "how is your hair so well-groomed after sweating, though?" your arms cross and you raise an eyebrow in questioning, trying to hide your fascination.
"thank you, my number-one fan, but don't change the subject. finish our inside joke, c'mon!" dominik grabs his water bottle and spreads the cooling liquid on his forehead, wiping the glowing droplets across his face as he lifted his jersey high enough to exhibits his fortified abs.
your attention is directed to any surrounding scenery, throat being piked. szoboszlai pretends he doesn't notice, preventing to embarrass you.
"alright, alright! you've won, bájos úr… (mr. charming)". your final comment escapes as, practically, a whisper. you can't control the shy laughter, coupled with the considerable redness invading your cheeks.
"that's the secret to make my day!" using his tongue to reproduce a sharp noise, he matches your humorous reactions. "would you like me to show you the infrastructure changes? i'm just gonna take a shower!"
"i've already been granted a tour around here, but in case you insist…" during the dialogue, some athletes cross your space, wishing them good luck for the competition. your concentration on the activity is significant, at the point that dominik's silent admiration goes unnoticed.
"i mean, you know me! i'm gonna insist anyway, so…" he reaches your captivity, bringing you jollification.
"i'll rate you as a personal tour guide. now, go there!" jesting each other, you both exchange exaggerated reverences, like a challenge of who makes the most chaotic one.
────
walking around the area, various subjects are explored, informations entrusted. you ask and are updated about his ethereal younger sister.
portraits of the generations are framed. you magnifies his presence in celebratory pictures, dedicated to find him in the memories and achievements on that wall. pride shines from you and the hungarian finds it lovely.
"you know i'm a sucker for accents… they're much more than mere verbal characteristics, they're stories: life experiences, marks and scars. identities and cultural integrations." the topic is random. through generalized opinions, you're explaining conceptions and dominik is retaining mental observations. he exalts every scrap of your identity, like a faithful worshiper.
"basically, you're admitting being enchanted by my accent. i can see the stars in your eyes. a win is a win!" szoboszlai and his frequent attribute to physical touch, tickling your ears and playing with them. it doesn't bother you, actually: adoring the affection exuded by you and him. you feel like a little girl dealing with your one and only love.
"it's beautiful, how can you blame me? and hey, i know mine's making you grin too." he holds your arm, shivers running down your spine, the two of you being euphoric in the midst of your own enthusiasm.
"putting me against the wall? okay, hum… what were you saying before?" he's changing the subject and you have a natural wit to boo him. lifting his shoulders as a surrender, the hungarian focuses on the specific loose strands of his simple bracelet, which you get used to help him tie it again, willingly.
"trying to avoid the truth? fine! let me take care of you while i talk about my admiration towards globalization and communication. like, with every fiber of me…" you accept the conversation's direction and utter a 'voilà' towards the accessory's new appearance.
"that's why you're the best person i've ever seen doing this job." dominik compliments you, an act full of honesty.
"thanks a lot, mate. but which job? as your bracelet helper or my real one?" you provide tenderness, looking amused.
"i mean… both of them." szoboszlai chuckles, revealing courtesy by your continuous helpfulness.
"literally? because i know you know a lot of people. you're so young and already is the national team's captain." you nudge him in a form of tease. he's a starboy, it's undeniable.
"flattered! literally, thought. you were born for this, believe me." vulnerability collides to you, as his words are deliberated: emotions embracing you and warming your insides.
"dominik szoboszlai, my dear friend, you're gonna make me cry, right here. i'm sorry, i need to do it…"
innocent satisfaction builds strength over you and executes unthought-of approach to the tangibility of your gratitude — his colony enrapturing your sensitive olfaction — in the most out-of-control way. the sounds reach your hearing: a choir of angels singing hallelujah. he reciprocates the contact, laughing at your juvenile excitement. joining him and doing the same thing, harmonizing the triumph. in the separation of the touch, you both remain close to each other and the hungarian doesn't miss the opportunity to feel the softness of your side face, caressing the skin. appreciation and satisfaction invade your structure, delighting on the palm of his hand.
"just a dear friend? why are we pretending all this time?" dominik's reading you. the intimidation at the sight of him overhanging you is paralyzing. you don't usually back down, but in that instant — superior than your most repressed desires — your gasps are escaped.
"who is putting who against the wall now?" insisting and failing on your witty answers, shyness and uncertainty corrodes you.
"please, look at me! i'm not kidding anymore." his voice is questioning, intrigued — contradictorily vulnerable and calm — your rationality being fragmented, fragile.
"you know i'm not the kind of woman you're surrounding by, domi. i'm not an influencer, bikini model. i'm not a public figure. i don't live for the cameras and gossip platforms. i live to work hard. i didn't achieve any of this with some type of perk. my routine and your routine are based on traveling..." who could deny it? szoboszlai's always been all that you see. it's much more than a mere passion. your attraction to him is magnetic, intense, vivid. consequently, terrifying.
"i'm just asking for a chance, (your nickname). i don't lie when i say i've never met someone like you. i may be surrounded by a crowd and you'll still be the one to steal my attention, because nobody compares to you."
your eyelids are closed and the exhalation of his sigh penetrates your lungs with the numbing breath of life you've never experienced before. it's happening: the rare situation where thinking carefully about the pros and cons is unworthy, dumbness. your decision is made and the privilege's resolution unify your lips. the beginning demonstrates slowness and patience — the intensification through the concluded wait of the longed-for reality, transforming light and magical kisses into open mouths discovering each other and witnessing the endearment that both offer — hairs, necks, shoulders and waists captured.
"you're the first to create a meaningful presence in my mind and heart. i want you to be the last one too. i love you, kincs (my treasure). i'm finally brave enough to demonstrate it with no fears." dominik's forearm covers your upper torso. your back against his chest, noses resting on each others. rejoicing at the miraculous, incomparable circumstance.
"i love you, drágám (my precious). you're finally mine and it was so fucking worth waiting." his whisper: the living proof of celestial existence.
"how blessed we are…" intertwined bodies, coalesced essences. solitary melodies turning into the sweetest and most complete symphony.

Travel the World of Imagination: Journeys Beyond Border
Kieth Denmark M. Retes | BSIT1A OVERVIEW:
Switzerland originates from the Old Swiss Confederacy established in the Late Middle Ages, following a series of military successes against Austria and Burgundy; the Federal Charter of 1291 is considered the country's founding document. Swiss independence from the Holy Roman Empire was formally recognized in the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. Switzerland has maintained a policy of armed neutrality since the 16th century and has not fought an international war since 1815. It joined the United Nations only in 2002 but pursues an active foreign policy that includes frequent involvement in peace building.
Switzerland is the birthplace of the Red Cross and hosts the headquarters or offices of most major international institutions including the WTO, the WHO, the ILO, FIFA, the WEF, and the UN. It is a founding member of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), but not part of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area, or the eurozone; however, it participates in the European single market and the Schengen Area. Switzerland is a federal republic composed of 26 cantons, with federal authorities based in Bern. references: Switzerland - Wikipedia

Switzerland, a small yet influential country nestled in the heart of Europe, stands out in many ways. From its awe-inspiring landscapes to its unique political system, Switzerland offers a blend of natural beauty, cultural diversity, and global diplomacy that few other nations can match. Its distinct character is a product of centuries of neutrality, innovation, and a deep respect for its heritage, all of which contribute to the nation’s unparalleled reputation on the world stage.
Tumblr media
One of the first things that captivates visitors to Switzerland is its breathtaking scenery. The country is dominated by the majestic Alps, with towering snow-capped peaks that attract adventurers and nature lovers from around the globe. Whether it’s skiing in world-class resorts like Zermatt and St. Moritz or hiking through verdant valleys and along crystal-clear lakes, Switzerland offers outdoor experiences that are hard to rival. Beyond the Alps, the country is dotted with picturesque towns, lush meadows, and sparkling lakes, such as Lake Geneva and Lake Lucerne, each offering their own unique charm. The country's commitment to environmental preservation further enhances the beauty of these landscapes, ensuring that they remain pristine for future generations.
Tumblr media
Swiss culture is characterized by diversity, which is reflected in diverse traditional customs. A region may be in some ways culturally connected to the neighbouring country that shares its language, all rooted in western European culture. The linguistically isolated Romansh culture in Graubünden in eastern Switzerland constitutes an exception. It survives only in the upper valleys of the Rhine and the Inn and strives to maintain its rare linguistic tradition.
Switzerland is home to notable contributors to literature, art, architecture, music and sciences. In addition, the country attracted creatives during times of unrest or war. Some 1000 museums are found in the country.
Among the most important cultural performances held annually are the Paléo Festival, Lucerne Festival, the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Locarno International Film Festival and Art Basel.
Alpine symbolism played an essential role in shaping Swiss history and the Swiss national identity. Many alpine areas and ski resorts attract visitors for winter sports as well as hiking and mountain biking in summer. The quieter seasons are spring and autumn. A traditional pastoral culture predominates in many areas, and small farms are omnipresent in rural areas. Folk art is nurtured in organisations across the country. Switzerland most directly in appears in music, dance, poetry, wood carving, and embroidery. The alphorn, a trumpet-like musical instrument made of wood has joined yodeling and the accordion as epitomes of traditional Swiss music.

Chapter 1
Tumblr media
🎨In a sea of colours, we were black and white
Kuroo Tetsurou - 黒尾 鉄朗 & Shirayagani Natsumi - 白柳夏臣
黒 (black) — 白 (white)
Tumblr media
Summary: The best way to prevent a broken heart is to tame your feelings, keep them locked in a room. At least that is what Shirayanagi Natsumi thought. Until, she meets him; Kuroo Tetsurou. Good-looking. Tall. Kind. And she realises that a heart that longs, hurts more than a heart that breaks.
Content Warnings: manga spoilers, post time skip, alcohol consumption, smoking
Words count: 4.3k
Tumblr media
Scientists say black is the absence of colours. Artists say it’s the only shade present in every colour. I say you are all of that—presence and absence, light and obscurity, shade and colour.
One of the most annoying tasks Shirayanagi Natsumi is assigned as the newly appointed athletic trainer of the Japan Women's Volleyball Team is to appear in a collaboration photoshoot with the coach and team members. She has always been used to being the tallest girl in her class, which is why in first grade, her mother had made a bet on your her path—it would be whether volleyball player or modelling—but because she hated to be in the spotlight (and perhaps because her father used to be the coach of the Japanese national team), she chose volleyball. But now, as she stands beside the athletes (and despite being 6’ tall), she feels extremely small. At least she managed to maintain her strength, thanks to her studies in sports science. I should have gone more to the gym, she thinks anyway.
When her coach broke the news that the sports promotion division of the Japan Volleyball Association wanted to include her in their campaign, she would have given anything to murder the obnoxious, stupid, sadist—and whatever adjective strong enough to express her hate—person in charge of that division. Her resentment didn’t ease when she heard her intern and assistant, Hina, gasped about how “lucky you are, senpai. Apparently, the man in charge of the division is a living god”. Good-looking, tall, a true gentleman—her words. It created some sort of disgust in her. In all honesty, it’s hard for her not to picture a stingy, middle-aged man who just wants to make money out of young athletes. Despite this, she still tries not to judge the portrait; perhaps that guy is all of that and kind
But it doesn’t matter how good-looking the guy is anyway because he certainly has no sense of marketing. Fans don’t care about athletic trainers, they want to see the players. He’s just making her waste time even though the fucking Olympics are in two month.
The problem on top of it is that, according to her coach, it’s important to bring to light her indispensable job and that the campaign is a brilliant idea (she’s convinced that whatever curse the ‘good-looking’ guy put on Hina, he also put on coach Sakai). But what can she say about it? He is her boss, after all, and she has dreamed of working with the Olympic team for years, so she offered a tense smile and returned to her office, hoping she would not have to meet the man who had that brilliant idea.
That is how she finds herself all dressed up and wearing make-up in some prestigious studio in Tokyo, sulking as she thinks of all the work she should be doing instead of this masquerade.
“Did your dog die?”
Ito Chika, the regular libero of the team, looks at her with wide eyes.
“Of course not, I would be desperate if he did,” Natsumi mutters, a pout appearing on her lips at the mention of the loss of the love of her life, Soba, a cute and fluffy Cavalier King Charles spaniel mixed with another breed (she still wonders about the kind of father he had) that she adopted two-years ago. My child, as she likes to call him.
“Well, you do look desperate, Nana.”
Liberos are said to be, well, straightforward. And they need to. At the end of the day, in a game, they don’t have time to be precious or cautious; they just have to dive to the floor and end up with a few bruises. Natsumi never understood why one would want to do crazy things like liberos; that’s why she was fine with being a spiker in school. As the saying goes, clichés die hard, and Ito Chika is no exception to the rule; she is, in fact, straightforward, frank and a little bit crazy (she also happens to be the best libero of all Japan).
Natsumi only sighs. “I hate photoshoots. And why do I have to be here anyway? The good part of being an athletic trainer and not a proper athlete, is that you don’t need to do bullshits photoshoots like this one. Argh.”
Only a few pictures have been taken, yet Natsumi already feels exhausted and blinded by the too-bright white flashes of the cameras. Both girls are sitting in a corner of the studio, taking a water break from all this agitation.
A scoff comes out of Chika’s nose. “Yeah, I know you don’t like photoshoots.”
“Why are you laughing?” Natsumi asks, eyebrows raised.
“It’s just-” Chika takes a few seconds to wipe away the tears that started to form in her eyes. “I just remembered the day of your graduation, when Komori and I dragged you all the way from the toilets to take a group picture.”
She cringes at the mention of the memory before softly pushing the libero. “Shut up!”
Deep down, Natsumi feels her heart lighten. Is that nostalgia from a time when one did not have to think about taxes and demanding bosses and grocery shopping and any other adult responsibilities?
“I remember how Suzuki-sensei screamed at Komori for entering the girls’ toilets.”
“He turned all red.”
They laugh so loud the make-up team turns and gives them suspicious looks.
“In the end, I was in the ground picture.”
“Only because I promised I’d buy you fried chicken.”
Natsumi chuckles at that.
“See, I know this would make you smile.”
She looks at Chika, and the corners of her lips turn slowly upwards. “You always know how to make me smile.”
And this is as true as the law of gravity. Ito never fails to make her friends smile. The girls met in high school; the two of them went to Itachiyama. Natsumi was one year older than the libero. When the latter became a first year, Natsumi was made vice-captain of the girls' team. She remembers when Ito entered—or rather, burst into the gymnasium. She’s so loud, everyone thought. She was grounded by the captain and had to take care of the cleaning for a whole month. One time, when Natsumi stayed a little longer to train her serves after a defeating match, Ito told her how happy she was to be in this team. Natsumi found her naive at first; they had just lost, and terribly, how could she be happy? But as she looked at her, cleaning the polished wooden floor and acclaiming every action her teammates had made, Natsumi smiled. That day, she discovered that the younger girl wasn’t just loud and naive, she had a gift, one of putting the smile back on your face. Whether it was when they lost their first Nationals, when their former setter had to retake an exam the day before the start of the summer vacation, or when Natsumi turned silent for a whole month after quitting volleyball. Her presence itself brings joy.
“Do you still talk to Motoya?” Natsumi asks.
“Of course I do. I even went to see the EJR play once. You know, it’s not because he broke my heart ten years ago that I resent him.” Chika puffs out her chest, trying to express the little pride she has left through her posture.
“This sentence itself makes it obvious that you’re not over it.”
“I-well, you know how I am. I have a crush on a guy-”
“On a libero, you mean.”
“Alright, alright, on a libero. I have a thing for liberos. Anyway. I confess to him. He says I’m a pain in the ass. I get over it and find a new guy. That’s called the circle of life. That happened in high school with Komori, with that Nishinoya guy at the Nationals. The list is long. My new target is the cutie Yaku from the boys’ team, though.”
For anyone unfamiliar with the situation, Chika could be diagnosed with emophilia. But Natsumi has known her friend for over a decade now, so nothing could surprise her anymore when it comes to Ito’s love life.
“Anyway. We’re having dinner with the boys tonight. Wanna come with us? Apparently, Bokuto knows a bar downtown where they serve the best Tsukune yakitori of Tokyo. Can you imagine?”
A heartbeat passes and then a knot forms in the back of Natsumi’s throat. One that, maybe, is always there, ready to come back whenever she feels uncomfortable.
She opens her mouth to speak, but the knot gets stronger. She would like to say yes, to accept, for she has declined this kind of invitation more than she could ever count on her fingers. She’s convinced that a part of her wants to make her friend happy and accompany her for once, just once. But she knows what “having dinner with the boys” means, she knows who that includes, and as strong and independent and tough as she may be, she doesn’t feel ready to see him yet.
But maybe that’s the point of life, jumping off the cliff when one feels the least ready. There’s this fine line in front of her, one centimetre away from the next step. It’s close, so close. She knows it should be easy to overcome the line, it starts by saying a simple, one-syllabled, “yes”.
Still, the word doesn’t come out. The knot is about to strangle her, and before it does, she gets up. Somehow, being in the spotlight of the cameras and getting yelled at by the photographer is less scary than where this conversation is leading.
“I am deeply, deeply, sorry for being late.”
An infuriating, sarcastic voice resonates in the studio—or as it sounds like to the athletic trainer. That doesn’t stop her from turning around as fast as the light.
Good-looking. Tall. Charming. That is how the man reflects in Natsumi’s eyes as he makes his entrance. She’s convinced she's never seen him before, but oddly and slowly, the knot in her throat dilutes in her whole boy and sinks beneath her bones. She doesn’t question the feeling and assumes it’s curiosity, maybe a bit of surprise too.
“Kuroo-san!” Coach Sakai runs towards the man. “Kuroo-san, it’s good to see you.” He energetically shakes his hands.
“There was an accident on the road, I’m very sorry.”
“It’s fine, it’s fine! Listen, girls.” The older man shouts to capture everyone’s attention—as if Natsumi’s eyes weren’t already glued on the tall silhouette.
The man is wearing a suit. A black suit. A red tie. And a few buttons of his white shirt are loose, probably in an attempt to get some fresh air—Tokyo summers are cruel.
He looks confident, maybe a bit cocky. Natsumi doesn’t know if he’s being honest when he bows and apologises for the inconvenience. His charm works on her coach, anyway. What a privilege, the girl thinks dismissively. Her boss is usually very strict when it comes to punctuality and respect. Natsumi didn’t know that wearing some expensive finance-guy type of suit, faking a stupid smile, and having bed hair was a way of currying favour with her boss. Maybe she should try it if she wants to get promoted.
When Kuroo catches sight of her staring, he offers a grin. Her whole world seems to still; she quickly turns her attention back to her boss.
“This is Kuroo Tetsurou, he is in charge of the sports promotion division of the Japan Volleyball Association. He was the one suggesting the brilliant idea of this campaign.”
Her heart skips a beat. So, this is the obnoxious, stupid, sadist person Natsumi wanted to murder a couple of days ago. For some reason, she’s not surprised. He does have the attitude of a gentleman. Maybe he should do the photoshoot instead of her; that would spare her time to work on her rehabilitation program for one of their middle blockers and the report she was supposed to deliver this week.
“Hello there. So, you’re the athletic trainer. Shirayanagi, right?”
She almost jumps when she realises he’s standing in front of her now.
“I am. Nice to meet you.”
“I’m glad we can finally meet,” Kuroo continues. “And thank you for taking part in the photoshoot. The JVA is trying to promote sport-related jobs, so it's great that people like you have accepted to do this.”
It’s not like I had a choice, she wants to add. But in lieu of words, she simply nods. Hoping this would end the conversation.
“Kuroooo!” Ito sings, coming from behind the athletic trainer. However, her joy is quickly stopped by the deadly glance Natsumi is giving her.
“You know him?” the libero reads in her friend’s eyes.
“We met during the European championship last year. In Poland.” Kuroo explains, even though she didn’t explicitly ask for an explanation. Natsumi gives a small smile in return.
“How are you? Are you enjoying your new life in Italy?” he asks Ito.
“Ew, our coach is pretty intense. The Italian championship is coming next October, so we need to prepare but apart from that pastas are good, the sun shines, and the wine is fuck-”
“Chii, we need to go back to the photoshoot.” Natsumi interrupts. “See you later Kuro-san.”
“It’s Kuroo.” He interjects but the girls are already walking away.
“You don’t like him?” Ito whispers in her ear, once they’re a few meters away from him.
“What?”
“You basically glowered at him.”
Despite her introversion, Natsumi has never been good at hiding her emotions. Anger, disgust, aversion—it can all be read by the features on her face. Ever since she was a child, she’s been taught to repress this, to take it easy, put on a mask of calmness and compliance. For a few years, she thinks she has done a pretty good job at it. Her parents no longer feel ashamed of her attitude as they were when she frowned at an old uncle's stupid joke, her colleagues no longer decipher when she’s pissed off because she now avoids lifting her eyes to the sky or clicking her tongue in annoyance.
But today, apparently, she’s failing to wear her mask.
The younger girl raises an eyebrow, and Natsumi knows she has no choice but to find an excuse.
“I can’t hate him since I don’t even know him. But it’s just that… I don’t want to be here. The Olympics are coming, I don’t know why he asked me to be part of this. I have a report to send to the committee, and Tajima’s ankle is not completely recovered. You guys should be training right now, not posing like some J-pop idols.”
“Well, I get that,” Ito answers. “But it’s important to have some time off training, and the girls seem to enjoy the campaign. Actually, for once, it's not the boys’ team who’s in the spotlight. And we’ve never had a professional set-up like this before. So let’s try to make the most of it. C’mon, it’s our turn.”
She takes her wrist and leads her to the set.
Natsumi takes a glance at Kuroo. He’s speaking with some of the players; they’re all giggling at something he said. What’s so attractive about him? She wants to ask them. Is he that amazing, like her assistant said? Maybe she only assumed he was the typical marketing guy who has no idea how much hard work it takes to prepare for the Olympics, when in reality, he’s just a good person. If so, she should be nice to him.
She remembers her mother begging her to be polite with people she didn’t know (“just smile and keep a straight face, that’s all we’re asking of you. It’s not that hard.”)
She gulps; the knot in her throat is almost all gone now.
I guess, she thinks to herself, I’ll just have to pretend with him too.
Tumblr media
If Natsumi got up and tried to run away from the “diner with the boys” conversation, is certainly not end up in this precise situation. But here she is, stuck between Hoshiumi and Kuroo in the most crowded Izakaya of Shibuya. Ito is ordering her fourth beer, Asahi, her favourite. Komori is trying to hide it from her. Atsumu is eating a cauliflower salad and explaining that he needs to keep his diet clean if he doesn’t want to lose his contract with whatever famous sports brand he is working with at that time. Yes, she is having dinner with Ito and “the boys”.
“Shirayanagi-san, do you want more fried chicken?” Hinata asks with his usual polite tone (almost too pure for this world). But Natsumi says no, her hair already smells too much of greasy food, so she might need to wash them with a super special shampoo tonight.
Don’t get her wrong, it’s not that she doesn’t want to be here. A reunion of both national teams could be very enjoyable. It might even be their last moment of free time before the Olympics. But the thing is, when she woke up that morning, she did not expect to run into the man she’s been cursing for weeks and even less to eat next to him and feel his shoulder and hand and leg against hers in a small restaurant.
“So Kuroo-san, how did you get into working for the JVA?” The setter from her team asks.
Natsumi looks at him sipping his glass of water. His face is ridiculously perfect.
“I studied business and marketing at uni, and it might sound cheesy, but I’ve always dreamed of bringing volleyball to as many people as possible. Lowering the net to kids, girls and boys, you know? So, they can become whoever they want. And I guess the JVA is one way to do it.”
“You’re amazing at it.” The girl answers, and from the corner of her eyes, Natsumi sees Kuroo’s cheeks turning slightly red.
“Kuroo used to play volleyball in high school!” Hinata suddenly shouts. “His blocks were so cool; it sounded like ‘shhh’ and ‘kabouum’.”
Now that she can take a close look at him, Natsumi isn’t so surprised that Kuroo used to play volleyball. He has the attitude of an athlete. It’s not only in his height but in his posture and in the way he looks at people.
“Nana too!” Chika adds in a loud exclamation.
In the span of a second, all eyes are on Natsumi and she wants to curse her friend for it. She doesn’t like to be the centre of attention, she’s never been used to it anyway. It makes her uncomfortable. Natsumi starts feeling her heartbeat pounding all the way to her temples. There are too many sounds—chatters, music, clicks of glass; too many scents—food, alcohol and the probably too expensive cologne Kuroo is wearing. She wants to hide underneath the table.
“What?” Tajima blurts. “How come you’ve never told us?”
The athletic trainer doesn’t even have time to open her mouth before Ito interrupts her. “Best outside hitter of Tokyo in middle school. She went to Nationals thrice. And she was my captain, can you believe it?”
“Chika, gives me that!” Komori, sitting next to her, swings his arms to try and take the beer from her hands.
“For real?” one of the girls says. “That’s actually so cool. Why did you quit then? You didn’t love volleyball?”
“It’s not about liking volleyball or not,” Kuroo starts explaining. “You can love a sport but still choose not to become an athlete. But there are so many ways to promote it and show it to the world. And it’s great that coaches and athletic trainers and journalists exist. Actually, they’re an essential part of volleyball, just like the players.”
Each word, each sound that comes out of his lips makes Natsumi’s blood boil harder in her veins. He doesn’t know, doesn’t know anything about her life and still he speaks in her name. How annoying.
“It wasn’t a choice,” Natsumi whispers.
“Sorry?”
If her mother was there, she would ask her to smile, keep a straight face, and move on to the next topic. For a long time, Natsumi has managed to do that. She’s no longer the annoying child who cries too much and laughs too loud.
But for some unknown reason, this time, her feelings have no room to hide. It’s like all the efforts she’s accumulated all these years to smoothen her emotions, tame them, all implode.
“Maybe you chose to be where you are. But I didn’t.”
Her eyes meet his. She still speaks quietly, so not everyone can hear her.
“You want to lower the net to both girls and boys, right? But you have no idea how unfair volleyball is. It’s easy for a man like you to pretend that not going pro was a choice. So many doors are gonna open to you anyway. Girls need to work at least twice as hard to reach the level of what men would consider mediocre. It’s never a matter of choice, at least not for us. People don’t watch us on TV, companies don’t sponsor our teams. Dreaming is good but we need to live too, pay our bills, eat, have a roof. Most of the time, giving up is the only option.”
From across the table, Komori overhears the conversation and decides to let Ito drink her beer. That’s a lost case anyway, she’s already drunk. What matters now is how Natsumi’s eyebrows are frown and how she starts scratching her arm, a bad habit she has had since childhood and that she usually goes back to when she feels stressed out.
Komori wants to interfere; he’s good at it, especially when Natsumi is involved. He’s known her forever, but as his mouth opens to speak, Bokuto lets out a sound that only he—and probably Shoyo—could understand.
“Heyaaa! More meat is coming.”
Kuroo gets distracted for a second, shifting his attention away from Natsumi. The girl lets herself breathe again and grabs her bag. She has to get out of this place and escape from the noise and the heat of the food in front of her.
When Kuroo turns back, Natsumi is out of sight.
Once safely outside, she gets a cigarette and a lighter from her pocket.
How funny it is that people smoke when they feel stressed, strangled, muffled. Can this be called fighting fire with fire?
“I didn’t know you smoked.”
Short and spiked hair, olive eyes, side smile. Natsumi would recognize him in a crowd filled with thousands and thousands of people.
“What a shame for an athletic trainer. I know the song.”
Iwaizumi chuckles, “As if I would judge your lifestyle when I sleep maybe three hours every night.”
“You always had problems sleeping when there were exams at uni, so I suppose it's the same with the Olympics.” She lights up her cigarette. “Don’t worry though, I only smoke when I’m tensed or having a drink with my friends.”
“Which one is it right now?”
“Both.”
Who could have guessed that the two of them, who met and studied sports science at UCI in Irvine, would now be in charge of the National teams? She likes to tell him that he has been a huge support when she got the job, and that she could never be thank him enough.
Iwaizumi doesn’t reply, so she decides to go a bit deeper and complains about the raven-haired boy.
“Have you ever met that Kuro guy? He’s so full of himself, isn’t he? I don’t know if he thinks girls are gonna find him attractive just because he gives life lessons. ‘I wanna lower the net to everyone’ he said, with his superior tone. Lower the net my ass and- argh never mind.”
Her voice has become more nasal and furious as she talks. Anger and cigarettes are not a good combination.
“Guess some things never change.”
Natsumi, back pressed against the wall, sighs, “I know what you’re thinking, I’m being too hard on him even though I’ve known him for less than a day, but something about him is bothering me.”
The good thing about talking with Iwaizumi is that she is free to say whatever she wants; she can even insult her coach, and he wouldn’t argue.
“You've always had trouble trusting people you don't know. I’ve not seen you this mad since our biomechanics teacher made you retake your third-year exam just because you broke his 3D machine, though.”
“I didn’t break his-” she stops when she sees the teasing smile appearing on his lips. “Anyway. Sorry for complaining.”
“Don’t be sorry. I'd rather you talk to me than keep this to yourself.”
She sighs softly and stubs out her cigarette.
“Did they drink a lot?”
“Hmm, your team has been pretty reasonable. Well, expect with meat, Bokuto has had at least three platters of beef.”
He groans in response. “I told him to quit red meat. I need to have a chat with him. You’re coming?” He points at the front door.
It would be nice to spend more time with the girls outside of work, and Chika and Motoya are inside, but Natsumi can only think of Kuroo’s comment and his so-called meritocracy, and all she wants is to go away as fast as possible.
“Tell Motoya I went back home because-”
“You missed your dog.”
That is the easiest and probably most credible lie he can give, so she thanks him with a soft smile and leaves.
She hopes to find solace under her fleece blanket, drinking a hot chocolate buried in whipped cream and with her dog resting on her chest, but when she opens the door of her apartment—a door that needs to be oiled—and is welcomed by the darkness, the silence and the emptiness of the room, she sighs. Soon enough, Soba greets her by whining.
“Hi baby, I missed you.”
The only thing that eases her mind is that tomorrow will be Saturday, no need to go to work, no need to run into Kuroo again.
She doesn’t have a lot of pictures on her white walls, only a few from high school with Ito and some from college in the US. As she looks at them, she wonders what her life would look like if she had continued playing. Would the walls of her apartment be filled with trophies and medals? Would she have made it into the National Team? What would be the number on the back of her jersey? Would it be ‘15’ like him?
But thank gods, she comes back to her senses quickly and pushes the intrusive thoughts away. She shall not let the regrets intrude upon her mind. That Kuro guy must be getting under my skin. She concludes before going to bed.

The translation of article with Aiba Masaki from "Safari". April 2025.

Terrace cafe for relaxing? Time for adult games!
Photo: Takaharu Tsuchiya. Styling by Takeshi Yanagawa. Hair and make-up-Akane Shibata(Okumatsu Katsura). Text-Takumi Endo.
You can have a healthy smoothie on the outdoor terrace. Today is a day for rest and relaxation. The real purpose of the day-activity at the facility where the cafe is located. Echo Mouton jacket-55,000 yen ("WP WESTPOINT"/"Safari Lounge"), shirt-28,600 yen ("YANUK/CAITAC International"), denim pants-29,700 yen ("Theory"/"Link Theory Japan"), necklace-265,000 yen ("GINZA TANAKA"), sunglasses-47,300 yen ("MOSCOTT"/"MOSCOTT TOKYO").

‘No, i came to challenge street sports in a sacred place of the Olympics!’
This time we visited the "LiveDoor" street sports park. Here we're going to sweat it out by participating in various competitions, including a sport we're trying for the first time. Coat-195,800. yen ("INVERTERE"/"BIND PR"), Cardigan-22,000 yen ("Lacoste Customer Service Centre"), T-shirt-6,490 yen ("ARTEX"/"BRANCH OUT"), Trousers-29,700 yen ("Theory"/"Link Theory Japan"), sunglasses ¥53,900 ("Moscot"/"Moscot Tokyo"), necklace ¥265,000 ("Ginza Tanaka"), watch ¥704,000 ("TAG Heuer"/"LVMH Watch Jewelry Japan TAG Heuer"), shoes ¥29,700 ("Ambitious"/"Takihyo Co. , Ltd".).

"I remember those emotions. It's wonderful that this is being preserved. The equipment used in the Tokyo Olympics."
"Although it looked like i was just lifting, my arms were actually very tense (laughs)." Sweatshirt-31,900 yen ("Lacoste Customer Service Centre,") T-shirt-12,100 yen ("JACKSON MATISSE"/"Show Room Hand D'Intree"), Athletic pants-9,900 yen ("Ocean Pacific"/"Show-Room Hand D'Intree." ), socks-2,200 yen ("Traditional Weatherwear"/"Traditional Weatherwear, LUMINE Yurakucho"), bracelet-115,000 yen ("GINZA TANAKA"), the rest are personal items of the stylist.
Aiba, who was a little more agile in his second and third runs, recalls the sensation he experienced when he first entered the bouldering complex. The first stop was the bouldering complex, where the holds used in the Olympics have been relocated to allow visitors to enjoy a variety of sports. An entertainment complex that will continue the legacy of the Tokyo Olympics. A sports park whose theme is "a sacred place where everyone can play together" is a sports complex associated with the Tokyo Olympics. Getting to know "Livedoor Urbans" was also a highlight of the visit. He also visited "Livedoor Urbans" to see the national team athletes fighting for their lives and said: ‘I really enjoy sport.’ In addition, as a navigator for the Tokyo Olympics programme, he often watches "NBA" games. "I felt that I should love both watching and playing golf," he said, "and not just watching, but setting aside more time to play, which i think has a positive effect on both sports. I feel like it gives me more time to play, not just watch, and that has a positive effect on both." The first test of the day was the tennis game. Here, too, we had to work up quite a sweat. Athletically. "When i first came to the skateboard court, i was amazed to find a rail on which i successfully pulled off a "big shot" of Pickleball, which is in high demand in the USA. Afterwards, he joined Yuto Horionae in demonstrating his dribbling skills on the skateboarding court. Easily he practised the skills with enthusiasm. He was so excited that he said: "I'm enjoying the feeling of playing this at the next 3x3 basketball facility." He was looking for a place to hold on to, "I'm starting to feel what i can hold on to," he said as he finished the climb. This surprised all the staff who were watching him.

Elsie Carson-Holt at LGBTQ Nation:
Anti-trans activists are outraged that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed boxers who failed gender and testosterone tests in the boxing world championships last year to compete at the Paris Olympics, even though the boxers are not transgender. Imane Khelif of Algeria and Lin Yu‑ting of Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) were not permitted to compete in the 2023 women’s world championships for boxing because they failed the International Boxing Association’s (IBA) gender testing. IBA president Umar Kremlev said that DNA tests had “proved they had XY chromosomes and were thus excluded.” He also said that countries were recruiting cis men to compete in women’s sports. There is no evidence of that. Khelif, though, said last year that she was excluded by the IBA because she’s Algerian: “People have conspired against Algeria so that its flag doesn’t get raised and it doesn’t win the gold medal.” Unlike the IBA, the IOC is permitting both women to compete but isn’t commenting on the results of gender testing, their genetics, or their hormone levels other than to say that they meet the IOC’s eligibility rules. [...] Neither boxer is transgender – they were assigned female at birth and identify as women, making them cisgender – though anti-trans activists have spread transphobic rhetoric about the two women’s gender identities, including once-beloved children’s book author and current transphobe, J.K. Rowling.
Anti-trans influencers such as Riley Gaines and J.K. Rowling are throwing a faux outrage temper over two women (Imane Khelif [ALG] and Lin Yu-ting [TPE]) competing in boxing that are alleged to be “male”.
Both Khelif and Yu-ting are women and have always competed in women’s competitions.
This episode has revealed that the anti-trans movement has no valid argument on “saving women’s sports” if even cis women are being attacked for being not hewing to rigid womanhood standards.

Tarot reading for Jamal Musiala
Tumblr media
Current Energy
Cards: The Magician + The Chariot + The Four of Swords
Right now, Jamal is laser-focused, but also going through a quiet internal reset. There’s a dual energy: externally, he’s on a roll , determined, ambitious, and leveling up. But internally, he’s reflecting, questioning who he is beyond the football field.
He’s in a self-mastery phase, quietly working on his mindset, his body, and his spiritual grounding. His energy says: “I’m not just here to play. I’m here to build legacy.”
Personal Goals and Aspirations
Cards: The Star + Ace of Wands + King of Pentacles
Jamal wants more than trophies. He’s dreaming of: International recognition beyond the sport, something like global brand ambassadorship or charitable work. Leaving a lasting mark , a name associated with class, discipline, and inspiration. Financial mastery , building long-term wealth, not just flashy riches
He’s also hungry for growth, not just in football but as a human. Possibly interested in investing, mentoring, or even creating opportunities for others in the future.
Strengths
Cards: Strength + Knight of Swords + Page of Pentacles
Mental resilience: He’s calm under pressure, doesn’t easily fold
Speed of learning: Absorbs strategies fast on and off the pitch
Focused humility: Doesn’t need to show off, but always outperforms
Adaptability: Can shift roles, environments, and positions without losing his essence
He’s not just naturally gifted ,he works hard, and quietly outsmarts his competition with precision.
Weaknesses
Cards: Five of Pentacles + The Moon + Ten of Wands
Internal pressure & overthinking: He can become his own worst critic
Tendency to isolate when overwhelmed emotionally
He sometimes feels like he must carry too much, emotionally or professionally, without showing it
He may hide vulnerability, fearing it’ll be seen as weakness
There’s a quiet fear of failure or letting people down, especially those close to him or who invested in him early on.
Life Challenges
Cards: The Devil + Nine of Swords + Temperance (reversed)
His biggest challenge is balance.
There’s a risk of burnout or being consumed by perfectionism
Pressure to maintain a certain image can become suffocating
May struggle with emotional boundaries, especially with people who latch onto his fame or expect too much
He might battle sleeplessness, anxiety, or inner restlessness when he’s not performing or producing results.
Also beware of people-pleasing tendencies or allowing loyalty to cloud discernment.
Career
Cards: Six of Wands + Emperor + Wheel of Fortune
Huge, huge trajectory ahead. Jamal is destined for:
Major international glory , likely to be one of the faces of his generation
A possible captain/leadership role in national or club context
Endorsements, documentaries, possibly even future punditry or ownership roles post-retirement
Long career if he takes care of his body and energy
He may switch clubs in a big transfer within 1–2 years if he’s not already being scouted hard. But it’ll be a strategic, legacy-based move, not for drama or money grabs.
Love Life
Cards: Two of Cups + The Lovers + Eight of Swords
Here’s the twist: Jamal wants real love, not surface-level flings. He’s romantic, but private.
He overthinks relationships, fears being used or misunderstood
Will likely keep relationships extremely private ,even close friends may not know details
Has a twin flame / soulmate type of connection that’s either already lingering in the background or coming soon (within the next 2 years)
This is someone deep, nurturing, patient, maybe a creative or spiritual woman ,not another celebrity. He needs emotional safety before he opens up.
He might even keep it lowkey for years before going public.
Future Outlook (2–5 years)
Cards: Judgment + King of Cups + Ace of Pentacles
He’s going to evolve into a more vocal, mature leader
Will build wealth, power, and emotional clarity
May launch or support youth foundations, education projects, or something philanthropic linked to his roots or past
Will become globally known, but stay grounded and soulful
He’s not just here to be famous — he’s here to shift something in the culture around sports, masculinity, and discipline.
Jamal Musiala is a soul in a warrior’s body , driven, wise, and destined for greatness. His journey isn’t just about football , it’s about balance, trust, and internal power. The world will know his name , but even more importantly, he will know himself.

Olympic boxing champion Imane Khelif must undergo genetic sex screening to participate in upcoming events with the sport’s new governing body.
World Boxing announced mandatory sex testing for all athletes Friday. The governing body specifically mentioned Khelif when announcing the policy, saying the Algerian gold medal winner must be screened before she will be approved to fight at any upcoming events, including the Eindhoven Box Cup next month in the Netherlands.
“The introduction of mandatory testing will be part of a new policy on ‘Sex, Age and Weight’ to ensure the safety of all participants and deliver a competitive level playing field for men and women,” World Boxing wrote in a statement. The fighters’ national federations will be responsible for administering the tests and providing the results to World Boxing.
Khelif won a gold medal at the Paris Olympics last summer amid international scrutiny on her and Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting, another gold medal winner. The previous governing body for Olympic boxing, the Russian-dominated International Boxing Association, disqualified both fighters from its 2023 world championships after claiming they had failed an unspecified eligibility test.
The IOC ran the past two Olympic boxing tournaments after the banishment of the IBA for decades of misdeeds and controversy, and it applied the sex eligibility rules used in previous Olympics. Khelif and Lin were eligible to compete under those standards.
Khelif intends to return to international competition next month in Eindhoven as part of her plan to defend her gold medal at the Los Angeles Olympics, but some boxers and their federations had already spoken out to protest her inclusion.
Chromosome testing was common in Olympic sports during the 20th century, but was largely abandoned in the 1990s because of numerous ambiguities that couldn’t be easily resolved by the tests, collectively known as differences in sex development (DSD). Many sports switched to hormone testing to determine sex eligibility, but those tests require governing bodies to make difficult decisions on the eligibility of women with naturally high testosterone levels.

english translation of this paywall-hidden interview:
find the german version here
Jamal Musiala is only 21 years old, but he is already a key player for the German national team. He has only just moved into his first own apartment. A conversation about growing up in the public eye and dreams outside of sports.
After training with the national football team, Jamal Musiala arrives in high spirits for his interview with WELT AM SONNTAG at the Adidas Homeground, the training facility of the German Football Association in Herzogenaurach. Inside the building, golf bags are lined up for the players to use during their free time. Musiala examines them closely. "I need to stay up to date when it comes to equipment," he says with a smile.
A few days later, he will play an outstanding international match, scoring one goal and assisting three more in a 5-0 victory against Hungary in the Nations League.
WELT AM SONNTAG: Mr. Musiala, do you play golf?
Jamal Musiala: Yes, but I haven’t played in a long time. Thomas Müller and Harry Kane, my teammates at FC Bayern, are very good golfers. Thomas is the better of the two – at least that's what he says (laughs). So I definitely need to practice again to get on their level.
WAMS: There’s a stereotype that golf is more popular with people over 30. Do you feel too young for this sport?
Musiala: Not at all. Golf is just fun.
WAMS: You’ve already won the German Championship four times, two European Championships, played in a World Cup, appeared in 34 international matches, and over a hundred games for FC Bayern – and you’re only 21. Recently, you moved out of your mother’s house.
Musiala: Yes, I moved from my mother’s house into an apartment. It’s a bit different now, but I like it. I really enjoy having my own peace, as we say in English, my own space where it’s quiet. What I really miss, though, is my mom’s delicious food. But I’ve found a good solution – and I enjoy cooking myself now and then.
WAMS: Are you a good cook?
Musiala: Not at all (laughs). But, like with golf, I just enjoy it.
WAMS: But you can manage to make your beloved Maultaschen?
Musiala: Yes, they’re easy. But I can’t eat them too often.
WAMS: At the Euros, you were the top scorer with three goals, along with five other players. Have you set up a trophy room in your first apartment yet?
Musiala: I don’t have much space, so I’ve left all the trophies at my mom’s house.
WAMS: Others your age are just moving into shared apartments, studying, or starting apprenticeships. You debuted in the Bundesliga at 17. How much do you actually experience the everyday reality of your generation?
Musiala: I’ve been in the football world from a young age, so I don’t have many friends outside of sports. I’d like to have more, but you can’t force it. Friendships are important to me. As a teenager, I was in the FC Chelsea Academy, and that’s where friendships formed that have lasted to this day. That means a lot to me.
WAMS: If you hadn’t become a footballer, what do you think you’d be doing today?
Musiala: Funny that you ask, because I was just thinking about that a few days ago. I would definitely do something creative. Maybe study architecture or work as an architect. I always enjoyed drawing in school.
WAMS: Your first own apartment, your fifth season with Bayern, your fourth year in the national team – your nickname "Bambi," which teammate Leroy Sané gave you because of your skinny legs, no longer really fits. Does this current phase of your life feel like growing up?
Musiala: I don’t mind the nickname Bambi; anyone can still call me that. Of course, I’ve grown with experience and I’m no longer the Bambi player. I’ve been through a lot at a young age, and hopefully, there will be many more games and titles to come. Consistency is key, and I do everything I can to maintain that. I rely on good routines and take care of my body.
WAMS: It’s said that you also do a lot of individual training in addition to your team practices.
Musiala: That basically started in our garden when I was a child. My dad played football himself and always told me, "Your coaches will do everything they can to help you become a pro, but the extra effort, the extra miles, you have to do yourself. No one will force you to do that. That drive has to come from within." I thought that message was cool and it made sense. I still take it to heart and always think about what I can do to take another step forward. No matter how many titles I win or how much my status changes, my work ethic and mentality won’t change. I’ll always look for ways to improve and stay open to learning and growing. This mindset has always worked well for me.
WAMS: You also do neuro-athletic training. What exactly do you train?
Musiala: It’s mainly about stability and movement. We train my eye speed, which is very important for my turning movements and positioning on the field. The faster my eyes move, the quicker I can anticipate. The first touch of the ball is often decisive, and this training helps me execute the ideas I have on the pitch.
WAMS: You mentioned your routines earlier. What do they look like?
Musiala: For example, I have a set routine on matchdays. I always take a nap in the afternoon, and then I recite my affirmations. I always step onto the pitch with my right foot. And if I’ve scored a goal – whether for Germany or Bayern – I wear the same pair of boots in the next match until I stop scoring (laughs).
WAMS: What affirmations do you say?
Musiala: They’re affirmations that I’ve tried out and developed over time, and they work well for me.
WAMS: Can you share one with us?
Musiala: Sorry, that’s like making a wish when blowing out birthday candles – you’re not supposed to tell anyone.
WAMS: Who is the most important advisor in your life?
Musiala: I listen a lot to my coaches and teammates, and to the feedback from my family and close friends.
WAMS: Young adults your age are often referred to as the “TikTok generation.” Do you check the feedback on social media?
Musiala: Not much. After a match, I do look at the comments sometimes. Using social media is normal, I think, but over time I’ve learned to distance myself from it. I don’t need it. Negative comments can bring you down.
WAMS: So you haven’t left an angry or praising comment on your idol Stephen Curry’s social media accounts yet?
Musiala: (laughs) Now that you mention it, maybe I’ll do that with a fake account. No, Curry knows how good he is. What he did at the Olympics was incredible. He represents top performance and entertainment. And he never makes unnecessary moves just to show off. He always focuses on the team. That’s the standard I want to live up to as well. I want people to come to the stadium and enjoy watching me, while I always give everything for the team. I can learn a lot from Curry.
WAMS: Do you watch a lot of NBA?
Musiala: Every Warriors game. I’m a real fan. I’m really excited for the season to start again in October. I thought the Warriors would make a few more trades, get a few more players, but okay – we’ll see how the season goes.
WAMS: Teammates and coaches describe you as very down-to-earth. Yet your rise from talent to star was rapid; over five million people follow you on Instagram, and you’re seen as the future of German football. How do you manage to stay grounded?
Musiala: That has a lot to do with how I was raised and how my parents brought me up. I just stay the way I am – open and respectful to people. You always get that back. Fame and money might change the lifestyle a bit, but not my values and attitude.
WAMS: With Thomas Müller, Manuel Neuer, Ilkay Gündogan, and Toni Kroos having retired from the national team, are you now expected to step up as a leader? Is that what coach Julian Nagelsmann is expecting of you, despite your young age?
Musiala: At the Euros, I realized that I can take on more responsibility. But all of us have to take responsibility on the pitch. We help each other. The more experience I gain, the more I’ll grow into a leadership role.
WAMS: Nagelsmann recently announced the new team council, and you’re not part of it – which record national player Lothar Matthäus criticized.
Musiala: That’s totally fine with me. We have a very open relationship with each other and with the coaching staff. Whenever I want to express my opinion or it’s asked for, I’ll say it. I don’t have to be part of the team council to be a leader. I’ve known Julian for quite a while, and we get along really well.
WAMS: After the quarter-final exit at the Euros in Germany, Nagelsmann set the goal for the 2026 World Cup: "We want to become world champions." How realistic is that?
Musiala: We can definitely win the title in 2026. With a bit more luck, we would have at least made it to the semifinals at the Euros. As a team, we've made good progress recently and will continue to develop over the next two years. We’ve learned from the Euros and want to go far in the World Cup.
WAMS: What are your personal goals for the coming months?
Musiala: I always want to be better than in the previous season. I want to further improve my strengths and work on the things I didn’t do so well recently.
WAMS: What are those things?
Musiala: Decision-making – making the right decision quickly on the field; there’s still room for improvement. That’s crucial in football. I also want to get into more scoring positions. That worked well during the Euros. I definitely want to get into the penalty area more often. That’s why I was very happy to score a “simple goal” recently for FC Bayern in Wolfsburg, where I was in the right place to tap it in.
WAMS: You once mentioned a principle for your play: no dribbling in your own half.
Musiala: That’s not always the case, but it's generally true. Recently, at Bayern, I’ve been positioned deeper during build-up play, so sometimes you need to dribble to start an attack and pull an opponent out of position. I do what the situation requires. In football, anything can happen, something unexpected. Intuition and anticipation are crucial.
WAMS: You were influenced by English football as a youth – and you’ve moved around quite a lot in your young life…
Musiala: … very often, yes.
WAMS: You were born in Stuttgart, then moved to Fulda because your mother Carolin began her studies there. From there, she took you to Southampton for an Erasmus program, then back to Fulda. Chelsea scouted you, and you moved to London – and eventually to Munich when you joined Bayern. Where is home for you?
Musiala: That’s something we’ve often asked ourselves within the family. For me, home is where I live. And where my family is. They are the most important thing in my life. We have a very close bond. That will never change. I have a younger sister and a younger brother. The fact that we siblings tease each other for fun will never change either.
WAMS: Are you already thinking about starting your own family?
Musiala: I’ve always been a family person. But I haven’t thought about starting my own family yet. I don’t have a timeline for that. I like my life the way it is right now. Football, occasionally going out with friends – it’s perfect for me at the moment.
WAMS: One of your best friends is Joshua Zirkzee from Manchester United, and you were recently on vacation together in the USA. He recently told a fan that he tried to convince you to move to United.
Musiala: Friends always joke and dream about playing on the same team one day. The teasing goes both ways: I also told Josh to come back to Bayern. But you shouldn’t take that too seriously.
WAMS: Your contract with FC Bayern runs until the summer of 2026. How much would you like to play for a global club abroad someday? Your friend Jude Bellingham moved from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid.
Musiala: I’m very happy at FC Bayern and fully focused on our goals with the club and the national team. I don’t give much thought to where I’ll be playing in five years. In the football world, things can change quickly.
WAMS: Mr. Musiala, what is a dream you have for your life outside of sports?
Musiala: I would love to go on a world tour. You need time for that, though. Between seasons, I only have a maximum of three weeks of vacation, and that’s not enough. It was exciting to visit the USA for the first time. For example, I was fascinated by Las Vegas. I’m also very interested in many Asian cities. Discovering countries and cultures is fun and broadens your horizons. Someday, I’ll travel a lot. In ten to fifteen years, I’ll start planning that more seriously.

The newest press release from the Norwegian Ski Association, quickly translated (below a cut because of length)
Update from the Norwegian Ski Association
Ski president Tove Moe Dyrhaug and acting Secretary General Ola Keul in the Norwegian ski association want to give an update regarding the work on the ongoing cases in ski jumping and Nordic combined.
– The cheating that lead to the disqualification of Lindvik and Forfang during the World Championship in Trondheim is both sad and shocking. It has far-reaching consequences both for us as an organisation and for the sports we represent, says president Tove Moe Dyrhaug.
Intense work is happening in the respective sports, ski jumping and Nordic combined, – and in the administration – in order to find the facts, handle the consequences and also take care of all employees, who are in the middle of a crisis. The responsibility is on the two sports in coordination with the board.
– we are doing everything we can to handle the crisis that we are in while also continuing all our regular activity. This week we have World Cup-events in Hafjell, Holmenkollen and Vikersund – one of the most intense work periods for the Ski Association. We have to handle these events at the same time as the crisis following the cheating in ski jumping, says acting Secretary General Ola Keul.
FIS-investigation
Monday evening the Norwegian ski Association received the first formal communication from FIS relating to the ongoing investigation of the Norwegian teams in ski jumping and Nordic combined. FIS requested all suits that were used by Norwegian athletes during the world Championship in Trondheim be handed over to FIS.
The sports directors of the two sports immediately started the work to collect the relevant suits, which at the time were located different places in the country. The suits have now been delivered to FIS in Oslo.
– the Norwegian Ski Association will cooperate fully with FIS' investigation, and has handed over the suits as requested. Based on the information we are currently aware of, there is nothing to fear from this control of the suits, but the Ski Association sees the need for FIS doing an independent control for this conclusion to be believable, says president Tove Moe Dyrhaug.
Following up the FIS investigation requires a lot of resources, and it is important that we are involved in the investigation in an efficient and trustworthy manner. For this reason, the Ski Association will establish a coordinating unit in the leadership that will be responsible for dialogue and cooperation with FIS during the investigation, as well as ensuring the interests of affected parties.
– It is crucial for the trust in Norwegian ski jumping and the Ski Association as a whole, that we cooperate fully with the investigation. When this investigation concludes, it will be natural for us to assess whether further investigation or actions from the Norwegian ski association is needed.
We will also, when the facts are sufficiently clear, send the matter to the association's law committee for assessing potential reactions following the rules and laws of the Norwegian Sports Association.
Consequences for employees
Based on the information we have gathered this far in our internal investigation, a third person in the support staff for the ski jumping national team has been suspended from his position. Thomas Lobben, assistant coach, has consented to the suspension, effective immediately.
– Out of consideration for the FIS Investigation, we will not provide details on the reasons behind the suspension, but we can confirm that he himself has explained that he was part of the decision to manipulate the suits, says acting Secretary General Ola Keul.
The suspension of a third member of the support team was appropriate and necessary, but it also creates challenges for the team.
–There is no doubt that it was absolutely correct to suspend the three employees who were directly involved in the cheating that lead to the disqualification of Lindvik and Forfang in Trondheim. At the same time it creates several challenges for the preparations for RAW AIR, says sport director Jan-Erik Aalbu.
The Ski Association's board
The board held an extra meeting Monday evening where the leader of the ski jumping Committee gave information about the case. There was no information in this account that is not already public knowledge.
– The board follows the work in the committees and the administration closely. This is a demanding situation and a difficult work that must be done to get all the facts and reestablish the trust in Norwegian ski jumping, says president Tove Moe Dyrhaug.

On March 12th 1881 Andrew Watson made his Scotland debut as the world’s first black international football player and captain.
Not only was Andrew the first Black footballer to captain Scotland, but the first one in International football, although there were very few international teams at this time it is still a major event in my humble opinion, this would actually make him the first Black footballer to play international football, the firsts will continue as the post does…..
Andrew Watson was born in May 24th 1857, Demerara, British Guiana, the son of a wealthy Scottish sugar planter Peter Miller and a local girl Rose Watson. At the age of 14, he was schooled at the exclusive King’s College London, where school records show he excelled at sports including football. He later studied philosophy, mathematics and engineering at University of Glasgow when he was 19, where his natural love of football blossomed.
After first playing for Maxwell F.C., in 1876 he signed for local side Parkgrove F.C. where he was additionally their match secretary, making Watson football’s first black administrator. After marrying in Glasgow, he soon signed for Queen’s Park F.C. – then Britain’s biggest football team – and later became their secretary. He led the team to several Scottish Cup wins, thus becoming the first black player to win a major competition.
Soon Watson won three international caps for Scotland including captaining them to a 6-1 victory against England on March 12, 1881 In 1882, he moved south and became the first black player to play in the English FA Cup when he turned out for London Swifts F.C. In 1884 he was the first foreign player to be invited to join the most exclusive of football teams, a team that only allowed only 50 members of the high elite to join – Corinthians F.C. – created to challenge the supremacy of Queen’s Park and the Scottish national side.
It had been maintained that the first black footballer was Arthur Wharton, until it was only recently noted that Watson pre-dates him by 11 years.
One reason is often overlooked is that when historians consider black footballers, they tend to concentrate on professionals and not amateurs such as Watson. Another is that there are no known written records or match reports that mention the colour of Watson’s skin. One match report is more interested in that Watson played in unusual brown boots rather than the customary black boots of that time.
The colour of his skin was of no significance to his peers and there is no historical record of racism on the part of the Scottish Football Association. As written in the minutes, before one match where Watson was injured and unable to play, an SFA vice-president said if Watson had been fit he would have happily drugged a fellow Scottish international to give Watson his place.
The Scottish Football Association Annual of 1880-81 reads…..
“Watson, Andrew: One of the very best backs we have; since joining Queen’s Park has made rapid strides to the front as a player; has great speed and tackles splendidly; powerful and sure kick; well worthy of a place in any representative team.”
There is almost no record of his later life; however, it is known that Watson later emigrated to Australia, he later retired to London in around 1910 and died of pneumonia at 88 Forest Road, Kew, in 1921. He is buried in Richmond Cemetery.
Pics are of Andrew from the Scottish Athletic Celebrities Album 1886, a mural on the side of Jodandys café in Shawlands, Glasgow, Watson in a team pic for Queen's Park in 1880-81 and Andrew in a Glasgow Select Team pic from 1880.

This is Imane Khelif. She is a boxer from Algeria. 🇩🇿
You're probably going to be hearing a lot about her from your bigoted uncle this weekend, especially now that everyone's least-favorite bigoted aunt, J.K. Rowling, has offered her incredibly worthless opinion on today's fight between two cis (aka BiOLoGiCaL for y'all that need that) women.
Things worth noting: 🇮🇹 The boxer who quit today's fight--Angela Carini of Italy--said her quitting wasn't political and that she was not passing judgment on Khelif's eligibility. She said the shot to her nose did something different to her than most hits she's ever taken.
🇹🇼 Last year, Imane (along with Taiwan's Lin Yu-ting) faced a ruling by the International Boxing Association that they--despite being cis or 'BioLoGiCaL🥴' women--had "advantages" of a genetic nature, leading to a decision not to let them fight.
🇺🇸 U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps, celebrated as the greatest swimmer of all time, has a genetic condition where his body produces half of the lactic acid of a normal cis man. For this biological quirk (along with his hyper-mobility) he is lauded.
🇩🇿 Algerian sports officials and other Algerian athletes have spoken in Imane's defense, including national team soccer player Ismaël Bennacer who said Khelif is "suffering a wave of unjustified hatred."
🥇 The Olympics do not recognize IBA or its rulings and carried out their own set of testing standards which every athlete you see competing had to pass.
🇯🇵 Imane also fought at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, where she was beaten in the quarterfinals by Irish boxer Kellie Harrington--another 'BioLoGiCaL🥴' woman.
🥊 For the weirdos who obsess over genitals, this person was born with a vagina. Meaning that by y'all's weird rules where you want to check in kids' pants before they compete, Imane would be deemed "girl athlete."
🏊 Meanwhile, Katie Ledecky today became the most decorated women's swimmer ever by pulling in a silver medal, after yesterday continuing her long streak of dominating everyone in the world in the 1500, where she holds the top TWENTY best times. Ever. And people on the internet spent the day calling her a man.
🧨 This should be a nonissue, but JOANNE and Elon and your bigoted uncle are latching onto it because they want to continue to push the deadly narrative against trans folks via any possible means. Even in a case where the person they're demonizing isn't trans in the first damn place. If she as a cis woman has more testosterone than other cis women athletes, well, that's not all that uncommon. Y'all wanna tell women with PCOS that they're not really women?
🩺 I don't know how many times I've shared that Open Ocean Exploration thread, by a literal biologist, explaining how common it is that people have sex variations that they don't even know about. I'll share it again since it's just about the most concise look at X/Y diversity I've ever seen. It's really wild to watch folks who copied off of my in high school biology act like they know more than actual scientists and doctors every single time I post it. --Find that post here:

(This originally called Joanne a bigoted uncle while still using her correct pronouns which I think conveys that she's basically the living embodiment of everyone's metaphorical racist uncle, gender be damned, but a few people felt it was misgendering her which was very much not the point so I changed it just to stop infighting since there's already plenty enough fighting with actual bigots to be doing.)
