I need people to watch Nothing Much to Do and Lovely Little Losers webseries on youtube. I need people to understand the impact these silly little shows have had on my brain for the last ~6 years. I need people to know why I occasionaly randomly go 'engage your diaphragm' in a bad New Zealand accent during gay confession scenes. So anyway here's a pitch of why you should watch them:

Modern webseries adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing (the best Shakespeare play and you can fight me on that) set as a vlog series by a group of high schoolers in New Zealand

Any itteration of Beatrice/Benedick is one of the best romances ever and this is no exception

One of the most infuriatingly good cases of mutal mlm pining

It doesn't feel scripted like other webseries of its genere (I might be the worlds leading expert on literary webseries adaptations)

The sequel series Lovely Little Losers is loosely based on Love's Labours Lost and follows the main cast going to university and experiencing student shenanigans.

The two series were filmed from 2014-16 so they are deeply entrenched in Superwholock fandom and if you are reading this then I know you were too.

There are multimedia things posted to Twitter and Tumblr

They are running a 10 year aniversary 'Dracula Daily' style rerelease of Nothing Much to Do where you get emailed videos and/or multimedia content on the day corresponding to when it was orignally posted

The 10 year anniversary of Lovely Little Losers by @thecandlewasters is coming up, and we are organising a fan-run daily experience. Follow along via substack as four flatmates embark on the uni experience in this 2015 Love’s Labour’s Lost inspired web series.

Emails will include youtube videos and other transmedia content like tweets. The first one comes this December, while the main body of emails runs from 15 July - 26 December 2025.

An Ode to Lovely Little Ficlets

A Fanfiction Writing Challenge for the Ten-Year Anniversary of the NMTD/Lolilo Hiatus

Ten years ago, in January 2015, the NMTD fandom was busily embroiled in the Lovely Little Ficlets 30-Day Challenge. A month-long event featuring daily writing prompts and no maximum word count, the LLFL Challenge was to celebrate the news of the then-upcoming sequel series Lovely Little Losers, and to give us all something to do and plenty of fic to read during the hiatus between series.

Now, in January 2025, we’re all awaiting the fan-run @lolilodaily experience, where each episode of the series will be emailed out to you in real time, Dracula Daily style. While we wait, let’s celebrate the anniversary of Lovely Little Ficlets too!

An Ode to Lovely Little Ficlets is a week-long fanfic challenge, because the fandom is smaller now, and folks might not be up for writing 31 ficlets in one month. An Ode to LLFL is not affiliated directly with the original LLFL event or the folks who ran it. We thank them for the inspiration! An Ode to LLFL is run by me, galwithalibrarycard, with input from my fellow LoliloDaily mods.

An Ode to LLFL will run from January 26 to February 1, 2025. I can make an AO3 collection for folks to add their ficlets to. (Link to come!)

No word counts- make your fics as short or as long as you wish! Write fics for all seven days, or just write one fic! Write about any characters, romantic ships, or platonic ships you love from NMTD and Lolilo! There are no Rules! ;)

-ben becomes a teacher. i feel strongly about this. and every year he has his kids do an assignment that involves shooting a vlog from the perspective of a historical figure or character from classic literature or something like that. one kid films his in the bath and ben makes sure he passes with flying colors -a key part of dating freddie is taking naps together. ordinarily she's too wired and doesn't really set time aside for herself like that, but when she's content in a relationship all she wants to do is cuddle and sleep -balthazar is visibly the favorite grandchild, and all of his siblings either roll their eyes about it or make fun of him for it (or both, cough rosa cough) -peter is secretly a really good cook, he just kinda conceals that fact during the events of lolilo because a) he's not in the mood to cook for his flatmates and b) he doesn't want them to start relying on him to be The Cooking Guy. that backfires on him a little bit because it drives him crazy when balthazar augments recipes rather than just going out and buying a damn lemon

If I was to make a Lolilo The Musical playlist like the one I made for NMTD, where I retell the story using musical theatre songs, I would fully use “Without You” from RENT to represent the Beadick Week-Long Breakup. Because that shit is maudlin and melodramatic and romantic as hell, and neither of them would ever say “life goes on, but I’m gone, cause I die without you” out loud. But crucially, that’s how they FEEL. And the point of musical theatre is that characters sing what they’re too emotional to say out loud.
