Was Napoleon Bonaparte a member of the Masonic Brotherhood? Multiple hypotheses have been advanced on the subject, and although the probability is high, it has never been definitely established that he was made a Freemason, either in Valence (French Department Drome), Marseille, Nancy ("St. John of Jerusalem" Lodge, December 3, 1797?), Malta, Egypt or elsewhere.

What is certain is that members of the expedition he commanded during the Egyptian campaign brought the Freemasonry to the banks of the Nile. General Kleber founded the "Isis" Lodge in Cairo (was Bonaparte a co-founder?), while Brothers Gaspard Monge (member, among others, of the "Perfect Union" Military Lodge, Mezieres) and Dominique Vivant Denon (a member of Sophisians, "The Perfect Meeting" Lodge, Paris) were among the scholars who would make this strategic and military setback a success that the young General Bonaparte would exploit upon his return to France.

What is also undeniable is that, beginning with Bonaparte's coup of 18 Brumaire, the Freemasonry would thrive for 15 extraordinary years, multiplying the number of lodges and members. The First Consul Napoleon Bonaparte, understanding the advantages he could derive from the obedient Freemasonry, invested in these reliable men, hoping to be rewarded with faultless servility. Almost made myself cry at work again thinking about how. Like. Pierre and Andrei are similar in that they're both intensely preoccupied (tormented) by philosophical questions, the purpose of life, the meaning of true happiness, striving towards goodness etc. But while Pierre is always numbing himself in order not to have to worry about it so much - with alcohol, with sex, with hedonism, with religion and freemasonry and the assurances that he's trying to do good by his serfs and that counts for something - but Andrei is really out there rawdogging life every day huh. No religion, sober, not getting laid. He does free/better the conditions of his peasants but he does so grimly and with zero joy or self satisfaction. He goes into the army which does make him feel better about life for a bit but even then he doesn't take comfort in the mindless obedience of military life like Nikolai does, and by the time he's taking part in the campaign of 1812 it brings him no happiness and he's just brooding over mortality the whole time. The only way he seems to escape the horrors is when he finds people to idolise (Pierre, Natasha, speransky, I guess Napoleon, probably Lise?) but that always always leads to disappointment and even greater disillusionment...

A bit more about Bernadotte, a tiny little crumb about Mortier

Just about a year ago, just before Bernadotte's birthday, I kept coming across new discoveries regarding the previous birthday boy, Ney. Well, discoveries new to me, anyway.

This year, coming up on Mortier's birthday, I keep coming across new discoveries regarding the previous birthday boy, Bernadotte. This latest one is from "Journal du comte Rodolphe Apponyi, attaché de l'ambassade d'Autriche-Hongrie à Paris", to be found on Gallica. Silly me, I forgot to note the page but it's round about page 15, and it's for the year 1844. It is shortish, so I will transcribe the extract in its entirety, followed by my own rough translation:

"Le roi de Suède est toujours mourant. Il a été si mal, ces derniers temps, que malgré sa défense expresse de ne jamais le saigner, de le laisser mourir plutôt que de faire cette opération, on l'a fait par ordre exprès de la reine, mais quel ne fut pas l'etonnement des assistants, en voyant sur ce bras royal quantité de tatouages cabalistiques et surtout, du haut en bas la phrase suivante en grosses lettres: "Liberté. Égalité. Vive la République!"

On m'a raconté, à ce propos, que lorsque Bernadotte a été en Corse, il a voulu épouser la fille d'un fermier parce qu'elle avait quelque argent; les parents de la jeune fille ne la lui ont pas accordée parce que lui n'en avait point et qu'il n'était que simple soldat. Cette femme vit encore: elle est si pauvre qu'elle est servante dans une petite maison bourgeoise où elle porte de l'eau et fait le gros ouvrage dans la cuisine!"

The King of Sweden is Bernadotte, of course. He did die in 1844, after spending 34 years successfully ruling Sweden, unofficially as the Crown Prince since 1810, then as the actual King from 1818.

Here is my translation of the preceding French text:

"The King of Sweden is still near death. He has been so ill of late that in spite of his formal command never to bleed him, to let him die rather than to carry out this procedure, the Queen ordered it to be done; but the medical assistants were astonished to see on the royal arm a multitude of cabalistic tattoos but especially, from top to bottom, the following phrase in large lettering: "Liberty. Equality. Long live the Republic!"

I have been told that when Bernadotte was stationed in Corsica, he had wanted to marry the daughter of a farmer because she had some money; her parents refused to grant his request, because he had no money of his own and because he was but a soldier. The woman in question is still alive: she is so poor that she is now a servant in a small bourgeois household, where she fetches water and works as a scullery maid."

Bernadotte did serve in Corsica before the Révolution. At the time, Corsica had not been part of France for very long and the political situation there was not terribly stable. I have not looked into this, but I wonder if he and Napoleon might have been there at the same time in the 1780s. I wonder too if Bernadotte knew about the Bonaparte family at least by reputation, as it had at least some degree of prominence on the island, and certainly much prominence in Ajaccio.

Regarding Bernadotte's tattoos, I have seen different versions of what the exact wording was - "Death to Kings" is what I have read elsewhere - where this particular tattoo was located (arm? chest?), and the reason for Bernadotte's reticence. I think it makes more sense that he did not want to be bled than the reason I have seen elsewhere, namely that he was embarrassed that his doctor would see the tattoo. By the time he was at death's door, somehow I doubt he would have cared that much about his doctor's opinion about very old tattoos - including the cabalistic ones, which I think referred to freemasonry symbols.

Now on to the Mortier crumblet.

I am still reading Philip Mansel's "The Eagle in Splendour" with pleasure and interest. I do have a bone to pick with him, which is that he does not sufficiently quote his sources. This drives me nuts when I want to find out more about any particular aspect of his book. I have no idea where the following information comes from, and it does leave me wondering.

On page 59, Mansel writes, concerning Napoleon's marriage to Marie-Louise:

"Throughout the round of glittering ceremonies, the Emperor and Empress were surrounded by members of the imperial family and, above all, of the court. Duroc, Berthier, Montesquiou and Marshal Mortier were especially prominent (...)."

Huh? Why was Mortier especially prominent at the time of Napoleon's second wedding? Why he, among all the Marshals? No surprise about Berthier, who had been sent to Vienna to finalise the marriage agreement and who had actually married Marie-Louise by proxy; but Mortier? And in what role? This doesn't seem to be something I will find out from Mansel. Not cool.

The emigrant workers of other nationalities also participated in the League's activities. The internationalisation of the League and the evolution of its members' views under the influence of the ideas of Marx and Engels led to its reorganisation into the Communist League in 1847.

In their infamous 1976 book None Dare Call It Conspiracy, Gary Allen and Larry Abraham claim that Karl Marx was approached by the Illuminati - calling themselves The League Of Just Men (Bund der Gerechten) - who commissioned him to write his Communist Manifesto. The League of Just Men was said to be simply an extension of the Illuminati, which was forced to go deep underground after it was exposed by a raid in 1786 conducted by the Bavarian authorities.

During the Napoleonic War of the Sixth Coalition, [Marx’s father] Hirschel Mordechai became a Freemason in 1813, joining their Loge L’Ètoile anséatique (The Hanseatic Star) in Osnabrück. After the war, he feigned conversion to Lutheranism as a means to better infiltrate Prussian society. He pretended to be an “assimilated” bourgeois Enlightenment liberal, interested in “free thought” and was wealthy, owning some Moselle vineyards.

Critics have suggested that Marx’s mission was to co opt the nascent socialist movement. Marx moved to London in 1849…While Marx was authoring Das Kapital in the British Museum reading room, his famous cousin Lionel de Rothschild, conveniently, was MP for the City of London (1847-1868 & 1869-1874).

The Rothschilds (Marx’s third cousin by blood) and other finance syndicates were very prominent in promoting “Jewish emancipation” and Masonic, liberal and Protestant ideas which took hold of society at the start of the 19th century….

O motivo dominante da conversão de Marx ao comunismo aparece claramente em uma carta de seu amigo George Jung para Ruge. Não é a emancipação do proletariado, nem o estabelecimento de uma melhor ordem social. Jung escreve: “Se Marx, Bruno Bauer e Feuerbach se unissem para fundar uma revisão político-teológica, Deus faria bem em cercar-se de todos os Seus anjos e abandonar-se à autocomiseração, pois estes três certamente iriam expulsá-lo do céu…” (Citação de MacLellan, ver acima). Todos os satanistas ativos destruíram vidas. O mesmo sucedeu com Marx.

K. Marx – “Um Psicograma” (Europa-Verlag, Zurich, 1966), conta-nos o tipo de vida de Marx que levou ao suicídio duas filhas e um genro. Três crianças morreram de subnutrição. Sua filha Laura, casada com o socialista Laforgue, também sepultou três de seus filhos. Em seguida, ela e o marido suicidaram-se. Outra filha, Eleanor, decidiu fazer o mesmo, junto com o marido. Ela morreu. Ele voltou atrás no último minuto. As famílias dos satanistas estão sob maldição. Mais tarde teve um filho com a empregada e colocou o nome de Engels, que igualmente era cristão no começo de sua vida, e deixou de ser quando se envolveu com comunismo, sua desconversão ao cristianismo foi dolorosa.

Engels estava plenamente consciente do perigo satanista.

Em seu livro “Schelling, o Filósofo em Cristo”, Engels escreveu:

Então virá o fim’ E no versículo 24: ‘Porque surgirão falsos cristos e falsos profetas operando grandes sinais e prodígios para enganar, se possível, os próprios eleitos.’ E São Paulo diz, em II Tess. 2:3: ‘Será revelado o homem da iniquidade, o filho da perdição, o qual se opõe e se levanta contra tudo o que se chama Deus, ou objeto de culto… (o aparecimento do iníquo) é segundo a eficácia de Satanás, com todo o poder, e sinais e prodígios da mentira, e com todo o engano de injustiça aos que perecem, porque não acolheram o amor da verdade para serem salvos. É por este motivo, pois, que Deus lhes manda a operação do erro, para darem crédito à mentira; a fim de serem julgados todos quantos não deram crédito à verdade; antes, pelo contrário, deleitaram-se com a injustiça.’“

E assim por diante, Engels cita escritura após escritura, tal como o mais convicto dos teólogos teria feito. Ele continua: “Não temos mais indiferença ou frieza em relação ao Senhor. Não, é uma inimizade aberta, declarada, e no lugar de todas as seitas e partidos temos agora apenas dois: cristãos e anticristãos… Vemos os falsos profetas entre nós… Eles circulam pela Alemanha, e querem introduzir-se em toda parte; divulgam seus ensinos satânicos nas praças e carregam a bandeira do diabo de uma cidade para outra, seduzindo a pobre juventude, a fim de lançá-la no mais profundo abismo de inferno e morte.” Ele termina o seu livro com as palavras do Apocalipse:

“Venho sem demora. Conserva o que tens, para que ninguém tome a tua coroa. Amém.” (Marx-Engels, 1ª edição Crítico – histórica completa, ver Citação anterior)

O homem que escreveu tais poemas e advertências contra o satanismo, o homem que orou com lágrimas para guardar-se desse perigo, o homem que reconheceu que Marx era possuído de mil demônios, torna-se o maior colaborador de Marx na luta demoníaca “para abolir toda religião e todos os costumes”. (“O Manifesto Comunista”, de Marx e Engels). A teologia liberal (BAUER) fez isso. Ela compartilha com Marx e Engels a culpa pelos milhares de inocentes mortos pelo comunismo.

O Comunista Marx não era ateu, era satanista. Ele fazia preleções sobre assuntos como “Perversidade de Deus” (exatamente como agem os adeptos de Satã). Ao contrário dos ateístas, eles não negam a existência de Deus, a não ser para enganar a outros; eles sabem de Sua existência, porém descrevem-no como perverso.

Outra ligação importante para confirmar a ligação de Karl Marx com o satanismo é a relação do marxismo e a teosofia, que não é acidental. A teosofia divulgou no Ocidente a doutrina indiana da não existência de uma alma individual. O que a teosofia realiza através da persuasão o marxismo realiza através do poder do chicote. Despersonaliza os homens, transformando-os em robôs submissos ao Estado.

No Manifesto Comunista, Marx expressou seu desejo de abolir todas as religiões, o que se supõe incluiria também a eliminação do culto satanista. Contudo, sua esposa refere-se a ele como sumo sacerdote e bispo. De qual religião? A única religião europeia que tem sumos sacerdotes é a satanista. Que cartas pastorais teria escrito ele, um homem tido por ateísta? Onde estão essas cartas? Há uma parte da vida de Marx que não foi pesquisada. Alguns biógrafos de Marx poderiam ter certa intuição quanto ao relacionamento entre a adoração ao diabo e o assunto tratado em seus livros. Não possuindo, porém, o necessário discernimento espiritual, não podiam entender os fatos que tinham ante os olhos. Contudo, o testemunho deles é interessante. O marxista Franz Mehring escreveu em seu livro “Karl Marx” (G. Allen; Unwin Ltd., Londres, 1936): “Embora o pai de Karl Marx tenha falecido alguns dias após o vigésimo aniversário de seu filho, ele parece ter observado, com secreta apreensão, o demônio em seu filho predileto… Fleury. Marx não imaginou, e nem poderia ter imaginado, que o rico cabedal de cultura burguesa que ele transmitira a seu filho Karl, como uma valiosa herança para a vida, contribuiria apenas para libertar o demônio que ele temia”.

Quem inventou o comunismo? Karl Marx e Fiedrich Engels? Engano! Esta é uma mentira que todos repetem. Marx e Engels foram apenas os lançadores do comunismo, em 1848, com o famoso manifesto, escrito por Marx, baseado em um rascunho de Engels.

O comunismo nasceu antes disso. Seu verdadeiro inventor foi o quase desconhecido Moses Hess, guru tanto de Marx quanto de Engels, que os converteu, separadamente, ao novo ‘credo’.

Moses Hess (nome real: Moritz Hess, um judeu apóstata, 1812/1875), ficou conhecido como o primeiro dentre os 'jovens hegelianos' a admitir ser um comunista. Ele representava em Paris, de 1842 a 1843, o jornal radical Rheinische Zeitung (Gazeta do Reno), quando conheceu Karl Marx e, depois, Friedrich Engels. Após serem doutrinados por Hess, Marx e Engels se conheceram em Paris e, após muitos entendimentos, lançaram o Manifesto Comunista.

Segundo o pastor romeno Richard Wurmbrand, prisioneiro dos comunistas por quatorze anos, autor de vários livros, Moses Hess, antes de proclamar-se comunista, praticava ritos satânicos, particularmente a Missa Negra (vide 'Marx & Satan', Living Sacrifice Book Co;1986, ISBN: 0891073795).

In 1860, Rabbi Kalisher hosted a secret meeting at his home in Thoru to recap the lessons which had been learned from the Revolution of 1848. This revolution had been intended to topple all the governments of Europe and replace them with Communist governments. It succeeded in only a few isolated instances, such as Venice, where Daniel Manini set up a Communist government. From the Thoru meeting came Kalisher's book, "Drishal Zion," in 1861, and later, Moses Hess' "Rome and Jerusalem." O final de Oulanem:

Em Oulanem, Marx faz o mesmo que o diabo; destina toda a raça humana à perdição. Oulanem é um drama no qual todos os personagens estão cônscios de sua própria corrupção, a qual ostentam e proclamam convictamente, todos revelam aspectos de Mefistófeles (personagem da encarnação do mal), todos são satânicos, corruptos e condenados.

Assim, dar um pontapé na religião era o principal objetivo, e não o socialismo. George Jung, outro amigo de Marx daquela época, escreveu ainda mais claramente, em 1841( quando Marx tinha 23 anos):  “Marx seguramente afugentará a Deus de Seu céu, e até mesmo O processará. Preste atenção na lista de “amizades” de Karl Marx:

Mikhail Bakunin, um anarquista russo que escreveu: “Satã é o primeiro livre-pensador e salvador do mundo. Ele liberta Adão, imprimindo o selo de humanidade e liberdade em sua fronte, quando o torna desobediente.” (Deus e o Estado, citações dos Anarquistas, editado por Paul Berman, Praeger Publishers, N. York, 1972)

O anarquista russo Michail Bakunin foi, junto com Marx, uma dos mais influentes personagens do movimento internacional de trabalhadores no século XIX. Bakunin faz mais do que elogiar Lúcifer. Ele tem planos revolucionários específicos, mas não visando à libertação dos pobres da exploração. Ele escreve: “Nesta revolução, teremos que despertar o demônio nas pessoas, incitar as paixões mais vis.” (Citado em Dzerjinskü, de R. Gul, “Most” Publishing House, N. York, em russo).

Hess apresentou Marx a Proudhon (francês e um dos fundadores do Anarquismo e que usava o mesmo estilo de corte de cabelos típico da seita satanista de Joana Southcott do século IXX), escreveu em “Sobre a Justiça na Revolução e na Igreja”: “Nós alcançamos o conhecimento apesar Dele, alcançamos a sociedade apesar Dele. Cada passo à frente é uma vitória na qual derrotamos o Divino. “Deus é estupidez e covardia; Deus é hipocrisia e falsidade; Deus é tirania e pobreza; Deus é o mal. Eu juro, Deus, com a mão estendida para os céus, que não és nada mais do que o algoz da minha razão, o espectro da minha consciência… Deus é essencialmente anticivilizado, antiliberal, anti-humano.”

Tais idéias não são originais. São parte usual dos sermões de adoração satanista. Mais tarde, Marx brigou com Proudhon, contradisse suas doutrinas econômicas mas nunca fez qualquer objeção à rebelião demoníaca e antiDeus de Proudhon.

Marx e seus colegas, enquanto antiDeus, não eram ateus, como os marxistas atuais descrevem a si próprios. Eles ultrajavam abertamente a Deus, odiavam um Deus em quem acreditavam, não colocavam sua existência em dúvida, mas sim Sua supremacia.

The United States has mostly been white & black people for its existence. Think about that. A third of its people never got any fair opportunity to be treated human. Whites just let in other minorities to take their place and hold them down into genocide. And it was mostly black Americans, when whites first started building America after killing most Indians and breeding them with African slaves.

In this respect, African Americans are very different than Africans. And if they're largely Native American, they're also largely Moorish, meaning Islamic. And there are also Creoles who come from America's French settlers (Louisiana) that American history just erases. This is probably how Freemasonry took hold in America and led to independence from England. And the rival, pro-English, white supremacist, fascist Scottish Rite Freemasonry developed here in the South with the American Illuminati who use the secular Zionism of the old to reach a different, more Satanic New World Order.

If the Bavarian Illuminati (who were mostly closet Jews of Enlightenment Europe) really knew about Masonry's origins to black Egypt, they would've probably been the ones adopting Islamic culture into Europe's modernity. There was supposed to be a civil war within Freemasonry against the Illuminati and this is probably where Scottish Rite triumphed over French (communist) freemasonry. That explains a lot of Europe and specifically FRANCE's revolutionary secret societies, like Napoleon, the French Revolution, the French Commune, Marxism & the Fabian Society.

And it also explains why Freemasonry have The Shriners - a group of elite level Freemasons who dress up as offensive Ottoman stereotypes and do nothing but have anti-Islamic parties and orgies. This is probably a reference to Freemasons using Turkish Jews to undo the Ottoman Empire to both control Muslim officials and make it serve Zionism. Probably a lot of Muslim leaders were assassinated, which explains why Shriners carry Arabian swords and wear the Fez hat which was worn by the big black eunuch executioners.

Real sick shit. Look how the symbology is a sword over the head of a black pharaoh. And their public face is a hospital for children who can't afford healthcare. Then you wonder how Jimmy Savile raped 100s of kids in British hospitals. He was openly a Satanist, a friend of the British royal family and no doubt a Mason.

Zacharie Fourrier Théodore Allemand, 1762-1826. A rather volatile individual in the French navy.

Allemand attempted to return to service in the navy during the Bourbon Restoration, but was not allowed.

During the Hundred Days, Allemand offered his services to Napoleon, but Decrès refused to welcome him back. Allemand was the only general officer to be refused.

In the following years, disheartened, he devoted himself to Freemasonry, creating a dissident and ephemeral order that took the name of "Suprême Conseil du Prado" of which he proclaimed himself "Souverain Grand Commandeur".

After the birth of a third child in 1767, possibly the most significant event in St Cyr's life took place: his mother left home, never to return. She appears to have traveled to Lyon, although this is not certain, where she joined the semi-mystic sect of the Martinistes, an offshoot of freemasonry. St Cyr was to retain throughout his life a deep hatred of freemasonry. She took the name of St-Cyr in place of Gouvion. Deprived of a mother at the age of four, and soon loosing both brothers, St-Cyr's childhood was far from happy. His close friend and biographer of later life, Augustin Cournot, tells how this resulted in a very strong individualism, which even as a child distinguished him from his contemporaries. It left him unsociable and with an air of melancholy. This early depth and power of character and willpower can be judged by his opposition to entering his father's trade. Despite intense pressure from his father, often involving physical violence, St-Cyr retained an intense disgust for tanning and butchery. He educated himself to a sufficient level to gain admission as a "free listener" to the artillery school of Toul.

Fortunately, here, one of the teachers, the Abbé Sijean, took a personal interest in him. He learned the basics of Greek and Latin and excelled in mathematics and drawing. His cousin, Louis Jean Baptiste Gouvion, a career artillery officer, offered to act as his patron if he wished to enter that profession. But rejecting this offer, at 18, feeling suffocated by his provincial home and loathing his father, he left for Italy with dreams of becoming an artist. The drawings that exist from this period displays a real talent. Significantly, he traveled via Lyon in an attempt to find his mother, and although he failed, he later adopted the surname of St-Cyr.

St-Cyr's recent biographer, Christiane d'Ainvil, feels that, although he hardly ever talked or wrote about his mother, this "silent suffering explains the complexity of his character, at one and the same time strong and vulnerable, authoritative and sensitive." It also left him throughout life utterly lacking a gracious self-irony. He was always deeply hurt by even humorous attacks on himself. He could laugh at a joke at another's expense, but never one at his own. Having developped the ability for being totally self-reliant, St-Cyr found it almost impossible to operate in the normal social sphere. D'Ainvil describes him as a "modern Stoic."

9 March 1753–Jean-Baptiste Kléber is born in Strasbourg, France. Son of a master builder, he becomes a trained architect and also a Freemason; he will later introduce Freemasonry into Egypt and build the country’s first lodge there in the aftermath of Napoleon’s Egyptian campaign. As a young man he briefly serves in the Austrian army as a commissioned officer before resigning his commission in 1783, disgusted at finding his opportunities for advancement hindered by his lack of noble blood. In 1792 he joins a regiment of French volunteers and fights in the wars of the Revolution; in a short time he becomes first a lieutenant-colonel and then, in August 1793, a brigadier general. He serves with great distinction at both Charleroi and Fleurus, but declines to serve as commander-in-chief. He does, however, accept command of a division for Napoleon Bonaparte’s expedition to Egypt. At the Battle of Heliopolis, he defeats an army of 60,000 Turks with only 10,000 men. Napoleon leaves Kléber in charge of French forces in Egypt upon his departure. On 14 June 1800–the same day that Desaix dies at Marengo—Kléber is assassinated in Cairo by a young student named Suleiman al-Halabi. The assassin will be tracked down and publicly executed via impalement.

Had a tough week, full of doubting myself and idealizing suicide, the works. The thought ran through my head, I wish I were better, I used to be better and immediately realized HOLY SHIT I am the living embodiment of Pierre Bezukov in the 21st century. 

Anyway, he ended up happily married with kids, so maybe it all works out for me in the end too! Minus, of course, the dalliance with Freemasonry, the brief obsession with killing Napoleon, and the military service.

So I’m preparing for NaNoWriMo by reading fiction books. I go to my city’s library (it’s like less than 10 minutes walking) or a book café and I get a random book to read. I try to do this each week. So here’s the summary of this week:

Monday: Cathedral of the Sea 

Read: Roughly 1/3

I started in high spirits! Written originally in Spanish by the Spanish writer Ildefonso Falcones, it’s an amazing story of a young peasant boy, Arnau, who survived harsh birth condition, but he was rescued by his father to live in the 14th century Barcelona. The book contains a great presentation of what life in medieval Barcelona was like, and a great supporting cast.

One of my favorite details was one of the supporting characters complaining that, although Catalonia had fertile lands, it couldn’t feed its population because technology hadn’t progressed ever since the Romans’ time, while everywhere else did it.

I heard there’s a Netflix show based on it. I’ll be reading the rest with interest.

Tuesday: The Client

I got this book because I remembered John Grisham had written a book which plot happened in Memphis and thus, to pay homage to @valiant-noble-soul , I decided to read it. While I knew he wrote mostly thrillers and crime drama, I thought I wouldn’t be interested, but then I got surprisingly surprised. The book does teach that it’s good to have a lawyer, especially when you’re a kid. The protagonist is an 11 year old kid and he manages to take decisions proper to a kid, but having him going to a lawyer because he knew too much was something that I didn’t expect to be engaging.

I’ll be reading the rest hopefully.

Wednesday: Reef

Written by the Sinhalese-British author Roman Gunesekra, it’s a book of stories in the house of a cook living in the house of an eccentric Sinhalese biologist. It’s a slice-of-life series of stories happening in the Sri Lanka before the civil war, and there’s something quite nostalgic in it.

It’s a good book.

Thursday: Napoleon’s Pyramids

The first disappointment of the streak. Author William Dietrich wanted to make a really ambitious series, but by the end of the book you can almost hear the train wrecking. It follows the adventures of Han Solo Ethan Gage, an American playboy trying to gain money in 1798 France, until he wins a collar that has something to do with Masonry and ancient conspiracies.

It just put too much and it put too much, like an unholy Brazilian pizza of everything (one of my favorites, but not like this), by dropping Egyptian mythology, the Book of Enoch, Freemasonry, Moses, Atlantis and everything. For example, the female lead says she’s descendant from a line of priestess and can’t shut up about how they did nothing wrong, how they were superior and sealed forbidden technology with the spurious reasoning that human isn’t morally ready - why can’t we have a story involving forbidden technology that either drops this or just says that humanity will never be ready? The male lead is okay, kind of a prick, but it’s his character, but the female is annoying for the aforementioned reasons and a few others, but her development is thin and ends the book learning nothing, I think it might qualify for r/menwritingwomen.

And then I discovered there’s  more 8 books in the series. As one philosopher once said: Bye, bye, see ya later.

Marshal Ney’s “Emigration” to the United States

There is a tenacious legend that Ney was not executed and that he emigrated to the United States. Personally, I don’t believe it for a second. Ney’s features were distinctive and well-known. The curé who rode with him never expressed any doubt that he was in Ney’s company; the gendarmes who rode with him in the carriage never expressed any doubt that they were in Ney’s company; the members of the firing squad never expressed any doubt they were shooting at anyone but Ney; none of those witnessing the execution expressed any doubt that it was Ney who died before their eyes; the nuns who were handed Ney’s body never expressed any doubt that this was indeed his body; those who put the body into the caskets never expressed any doubt that it was Ney’s body they were handling. Saving Ney from execution would have implied a massive conspiracy, organized with hours to spare and never yet revealed.

During the trial, a rumour already circulated among soldiers: "The Marshal will not be executed."

Before his burial, some veterans spread the word that the execution had been a sham and that the Marshal was still alive. Many wanted to believe this version of events, such keen interest did this individual and his military exploits generate; this rumour was all the more believable  as Ney had planned to leave France for the United States, as General Moreau and his family had done in 1804. This legend is based on an appeal by the Duke of Wellington to King Louis XVIII, of whom he is said to have asked for a pardon. The Duke is alleged to have been helped by adherents of Freemasonry, to which Ney belonged. So did many of the high-ranking military men surrounding Napoleon, who was himself initiated in 1801 into the Saint-Jean-de-Jérusalem Lodge in Nancy.

Ney is alleged to have moved to the United States, near Cleveland in North Carolina, where he supposedly worked as a teacher under the pseudonym Peter Stuart. In favour of this theory, this character was a tall, red-haired man with many scars, who spoke English with a German accent. He claimed to be Marshal Ney, and displayed comprehensive knowledge of Ney's life and of the battles in which he participated. In addition, a gravedigger called Dumesnil at the Père-Lachaise cemetery, given in 1903 the task of transferring the Marshal’s remains from his first grave to the current monument, always claimed that the coffin was empty. As for arguments against this theory, Peter Stuart knew Latin, Greek and Hebrew, which Ney did not. It is assumed that this impostor was an officer of the Grande Armée who knew Ney well. He died in November 1846, at the age of seventy-seven, thirty-one years after the Marshal's execution.

Ney's family seems never to have given credence to this legend, or even to have been made aware of it.

Bakunin's hatred of the Jews grew beyond bounds. In his answer to a letter of Moses Hess in the review Le réveil (October 20, 1869), he referred to the Jews as a nation of exploiters, entirely opposed to the interests of the proletariat. At another time he stated that the Jews were more dangerous than the Jesuits and constituted a real power in Europe: they reigned despotically over commerce and banking, and had taken over three-quarters of German journalism as well as a large portion of the press in other countries.

The fourth main form of Bakunin’s antisemitism was intimately connected to the previous one. Bakunin not only believed that an international Jewish conspiracy played a key role in running the world. He also believed in a specifically Jewish conspiracy against him within the 1st International. The history of the 1st International is very complicated and for the purposes of this essay all you need to know is the following. In September 1872 Bakunin was expelled from the 1st International at its Hague Congress for being a member of a secret organisation called the Alliance.

Autoridade de Deus e as vãs filosofias

Porque o que a nossa natureza humana quer é contra o que o Espírito quer, e o que o Espírito quer é contra o que a natureza humana quer. Os dois são inimigos, e por isso vocês não podem fazer o que vocês querem. Porém, se é o Espírito de Deus que guia vocês, então vocês não estão debaixo da lei. As coisas que a natureza humana produz são bem-conhecidas.

Elas são: a imoralidade sexual, a impureza, as ações indecentes, a adoração de ídolos, as feitiçarias, as inimizades, as brigas, as ciumeiras, os acessos de raiva, a ambição egoísta, a desunião, as divisões, as invejas, as bebedeiras, as farras e outras coisas parecidas com essas. Repito o que já disse: os que fazem essas coisas não receberão o Reino de Deus.

Mas o Espírito de Deus produz o amor, a alegria, a paz, a paciência, a delicadeza, a bondade, a fidelidade, a humildade e o domínio próprio. E contra essas coisas não existe lei. As pessoas que pertencem a Cristo Jesus crucificaram a natureza humana delas, junto com todas as paixões e desejos dessa natureza.
