writing is a dangerous endeavour because i'll think "oh i like the word pandemonium, i should check if it'd fit in this context" and then i open my web browser to look it up and it has been 15 minutes of browsing tumblr.

you know what gets to me about bocchi the rock college arc
i think neither ryo nor bocchi going to college is a decision meant to be reflective of the music industry and art being treated as a means of gaining capital instead of an uncompromised expressive outlet (which warrants a separate discussion on its own) rather than just solely speaking for their character, which it does! but it's not just that and not in the way i see people say it does.
nijika and kita kind of represent artists who don't have the luxury to focus on the band full-time and so they study college as a sort of support system or fallback. ryo's the only child of two doctors and bocchi's relatively well-off + they both have a whole supportive family but it doesn't make nijikita less passionate about music just as it doesn't make boryo less serious about their direction in life. they're artists! they! love! music! if they love it so much there is no future in which they can imagine themselves doing conventional jobs that get in the way of it then that's beautiful imo
this isn't to say they shouldn't be *getting* jobs, no no. it's very responsible on nijika and kita's parts especially in this economy and good for them! but bocchi and ryo choosing to focus on music full-time is admirable on its own right. they're all very rock!
we also find out whether the btr adults who are and were involved in music ever finished college or moved on to doing other things. it happens a lot to artists irl. seika is an example of someone who did graduate but is still very much involved and very much supportive of the music scene, she circled back to her passion but not in a way that she performed, which she wanted, because she also has to think about supporting nijika. so it's also about sacrifices.
in conclusion for all the manga's flaws i do think hamazi meant for btr to be a love letter to art and music and pursuing it even if you risk taking the safe route in life just because the world wants to overwork you

Wrote some nijikita :’) you can find the full thing over here https://archiveofourown.org/works/52781104
It’s supposed to be part of the series if rynj didn’t happen and so the series title was also referencing the first part of the njry fic where ryo didn’t tell nijika it was for her
