suitcase or balloon music headcannons?
let’s do BOTH!!! i’ve placed the headcanons under a read more because i don’t like posting anything that’s too long ^^;
Suitcase:
she’s too nervous to pick up an instrument, but as a kid she’s had dreams of becoming a famous singer, among other things.
suitcase’s voice is very mellow and actually quite pleasant, but she doesn’t like to sing for the exact opposite reason nickel does: of course being, she doesn’t think she sounds that good and she doesn’t want to annoy people with it. she’s not on nickel’s level, but she’s REALLY GOOD and suitcase DESERVES ENCOURAGEMENT!!!!
she expressed a desire to play a string instrument to balloon in the past and paintbrush overheard and? they’ve been trying to drop hints to her for the,,, longest time,,,,,, meanwhile, balloon’s been gently encouraging her!
balloon’s trying to convince paintbrush (and to a lesser extent cheesy) to be more upfront about helping her learn a string instrument. i say “to a lesser extent cheesy” because balloon can’t stand cheesy either so he kind of gives up asking half of the time
cheesy really wants to help :( i won’t stop mentioning him please share my cheesy headcanon
i change my mind about paintbrush listening to Mitski, because honestly suitcase would listen to Mitski a lot. or just,,, any artist that has a mellow, forlorn undertone to their music! she likes soft & sad songs as well as love songs and pop songs, and while she can appreciate a good banger every once in awhile, anything that’s too noisy (i.e. rock stuff) would make her agitated. however, she loves songs w/a steady beat most of all.
here’s some songs that i think would be right up her alley! also low-key projecting because i love Sara Bareilles and Mitski very very much:> Why Didn’t You Stop Me and First Love / Late Spring by Mitski> Beautiful Girl by Sara Bareilles> she’d also love halsey’s voice but she’d be very flustered listening to her (coughs suitcase is WLW)> balloon probably indirectly gets her into ariana grande tbh> anywho if it sounds like a lovesick lesbian listens to it then it’s on suitcase’s playlist
Balloon:
this isn’t canon but, canonically balloon can and has reached higher notes than marshmallow in the past. he is the ultimate soprano. his singing voice is way too screechy to be enjoyed by most, but he tries his best. in the past he kinda evaded singing because he knows his voice is shitty and he thought it was kinda stupid, but he’s… always had a lot of fun singing!
more recently, he’s been trying to get out of his shell and prompt suitcase to do so as well, so he’s been inviting her to karaoke nights. he belts out the dumbest songs and he looks stupid while doing so but the smile on his face is big and genuine
due to previous incidents (with an s), balloon is no longer allowed to sing with glass objects in the same room in Hotel OJ. he has also been banned from singing in 3 separate karaoke bars because of similar reasons.
nickel encourages this behavior, and whenever the two of them are out at a karaoke bar and piss drunk he bets balloon $20 bucks he can’t shatter x amount of glasses. balloon, of course, wins every time
he plays the triangle
BALLOON PLAYS THE TRIANGLE AND THIS IS C
his taste in music, for the most part, is extremely trashy. mainstream pop, rap, etc, are all present in his playlists and he loves each and every one. he’d do literally anything for nikki minaj and ariana grande and lady gaga. he also listens to taylor swift and miley cyrus and ke$ha and he literally cries whenever they write a power ballad. if anything is popular, balloon, like a foolish fly, gravitates towards it. but he genuinely likes the songs, and he won’t stop blasting Hot and Cold and TGIF and oj is lowkey considering hating him again
bomb and balloon have the exact same musical tastes. bomb gave balloon the silent treatment when he came to the hotel legit until balloon recited Bang Bang perfectly during a particularly drunk karaoke night and they slowly just. reconciled over pop songs. it’s beautiful
supplementary hc where pickle, cheesy, tissues, bomb, and balloon like to spend some friday nights at karaoke bars doing dumbshit. paper and nickel join occasionally (independent of each other, but some nights they both join). paper keeps asking OJ to join but he’s refused every time. balloon keeps promising OJ to go mute just so he can enjoy himself, but OJ assures him it’s not balloon. (OJ doesn’t join because he feels guilty about neglecting the hotel,,,)> sometimes cherries or soap join, but neither of them like alcohol so whenever they join everyone insists it’s family night. the boys insist not to cuss as an inside joke, but cherries always drops f-bombs at the most opportune times and everyone loses their SHIT. soap doesn’t like to cuss, but once she just yelled fuck in the middle of a song everyone went absolutely hogwild> yin-yang has been banned from the same exact bars balloon’s not allowed to sing in because yang thought it was socially acceptable to smash glasses there. but every once in awhile they join, but it’s always with cherries now (mostly because yin is anxious about smashing glasses again)> once, the Boys™ ran into paintbrush and fan at the same karaoke place. paintbrush walked onto the stage, looked at the Boys™ straight in the eye, and screamed a metal song. right after fan walked up and they both sang the theme song to evangelion (in the original japanese). everyone was losing it except balloon, who was kinda confused> trophy loves karaoke night because it means he can take nice pictures of the hotel more often without being disturbed. sure there are still people there, but Less

My Music Rankings (2/15/19)
Let’s try this again. Hi. Nice to meet you. This is a song ranking post
Let us get some honorable mentions up in here first:
Deal with the devil by Tia ( https://open.spotify.com/track/2qEIVphvwMEkE35CXxdWAT?si=2ZHB9PK8SduIm3wDPv5Pxg ) - I can’t unsee Kakegurui’s opening when hearing this, which is a good thing. A very fun song.
[some text I can’t copy-paste] by PASSEPIED ( https://open.spotify.com/track/3YRkEWUsxgcv0TXunuFXaG?si=4VzYHLBlQeGiw5THs2bSrA ) - Always boosts my energy. Love getting this one during a bike ride.
Reactive Factory: Work It Out by SEGA ( https://open.spotify.com/track/1zJBs1tPQAc0IJ5aSHVnjX?si=nww_-g8NTgWie1F9tt9thw ) - Song from Sonic R. It has the same charm that the whole OST has, but oddly enough, it’s also is one of the most inspiring video-game songs I’ve heard, and I really like it for that.
Rude Buster by Toby Fox ( https://open.spotify.com/track/322mgWaD4DetiHmoDVlwWc?si=SoDkJjx7RnuFFNaSqphxOQ ) - It’s Toby Fox
Field of Hopes and Dreams by Toby Fox ( https://open.spotify.com/track/2W90IO8eRnFg1qsPunKm9B?si=YxbGoJzuRky4qVuF7KId-Q ) - It’s Toby Fox
Light on the Land by Nujabes ( https://open.spotify.com/track/2rUaktaAxshyPzIdAKzk1Y?si=7qKXNsFfTGagN41Zkii6RQ ) - It’s Nujabes. Good for long nights.
Osaka by Magic Circuit & Nyanners ( https://open.spotify.com/track/4vt9IeeqPgmCh5E34rlJe0?si=_XXb1Y7_ToWF_2aYTQr9Xg ) - There’s is not one part of this song I don’t enjoy. The lyrics, the singing, the tone, the notes, everything. This can easily jump into the ranks soon.
Current Top 10 Pieces of Music of All Time Of the Month:
10: [some text I can’t copy-paste] by ORESAMA ( https://open.spotify.com/track/1u3VGSAE8RfSGS4u0BPyRh?si=VGGjQKQmSc6Y1jdtd5rBzA ) - This song is catchy and has so much personality... Plus, I can’t help think of Kirby and the Crystal Shards when I hear it, which is a great thing.
9: Darling by Tsundere Alley ( https://open.spotify.com/track/4q3vvu59rykZqQiOVW0lcj?si=MNwdqQD1QXuFqtBe7_vIUg ) - What am I hearing and why do I like it so much?...
8: Feather by Nujabes ( https://open.spotify.com/track/2ej1A2Ze6P2EOW7KfIosZR?si=nUB6iAifSMCMY0Gv93v-Fw ) - It’s Nujabes
7. Believe in Myself by AmaLee ( https://open.spotify.com/track/541NKK4h7UJgbdMbaccdiC?si=Y-m5lOD4QpSkpdx0IaVgSA ) - Boost your confidence. This song is an easy way to get through some hard days.
6: Life Will Change (P5) by AmaLee & Atlus ( https://open.spotify.com/track/6EC3QOcBWE1AMg6xdYMskY?si=5zbzDk0CRNOnIQYK_gq8pQ ) - My favorite song in Persona 5. One of the only songs that I’ll almost always sing in its entirety when I hear it (alone, of course). AmaLee is a legendary cover-artist.
5. Asteroid by GARNiDELiA ( https://open.spotify.com/track/28PF5hmg7Gc8s1dXe2Cqnp?si=z6NyTGXZQnyHIwoaEIrAXw ) - A classic for me at this point. On good days, it’s an enjoyable, good song. On bad days, the desperate tone of the song makes it quite more intense for me. Love it.
4. Bullet Waiting for Me (James Landino Remix) by Nikki Simmons (  https://open.spotify.com/track/7zPc0e7TrM8SyBa8753Kvd?si=HuWwLJ7FTOC5H3JtlGJ2dQ ) - A lovely song. A tad bit short.
3. Witch by Magic Circuit & Nyanners ( https://open.spotify.com/track/0xZWbHZcY41nnsDiyBVxUF?si=GrHojVTvSryMA-5r5xqXBQ ) - Witch is something incredibly special to me. The first time I heard this song was while I was mowing the lawn and had Spotify on some random-setting. When the singer began to sing, I felt very urged to hit the skip button and move on to the next song. But I gave the song a chance. With every listen since then, I liked the song more until I started to love it. At first, I did not understand the song’s meaning; I did not notice the parts of the song that now make me love it. The lyrics also hit me deep. Regardless of my mood, this song can make me teary 50% of the time. Also, this song is sung by Nyanners!!
2.Colorful World by Seira Kariya ( https://open.spotify.com/track/4vQIktmFEmQAfxxuZHGPEf?si=9NQs53FMRWa7XbJWwVlE0A ) - An absolute banger. One of the best songs that I’ve ever heard, for sure. It just forces joy upon you.
1: Wandering by A_rival ( https://open.spotify.com/track/5GyQ9UXSXhzmNJPhAQYYTY?si=w0X8YQnLQ5SYEgWcxTJ1PA ) - A great song that I refuse to ever get tired of. I will never not sing this while driving.
What absolutely shocking results. Were you as enticed as I was? Now, here’s some exclusive commentary on these results:
I can clearly distinguish the different tiers/levels in these rankings, levels that I don’t see any of the songs moving easily to or from. 9, 10 and every song not on this list that I like are in their own “enjoyable” tier. They’re nice. Then, we have 6, 7 and 8 in a tier above them. I don’t see many songs under this tier that I can see myself loving more than something like Feather or Life Will Change. That’s a challenge. Above that is 4 and 5. The songs in this tier or better are what I consider legendary songs, songs that I do not see myself ever getting tired of or forgetting about. However, there’s a clear distinction between 4 & 5 and 1,2&3. This last tier are SSS-tier songs, unforgettable classics that I will always love and be excited to hear come up, whether I’m driving, biking or just listening the music.
Now onto comments on specific songs. Bullet Waiting for Me just barely out-ranked Asteroid. This was a song that came out of nowhere and became an instant favorite of mine. However, I could see it falling down the ranks based on how short the song is relative to how long I want the song to be. For now, I placed it where I think it should be, but we’ll see in the future if that changes.
Witch is by-far the song that I am most emotionally invested in. I love it so much, and yet, I don’t consider it do be at the same level as Colorful World and Wandering... yet.. I definitely can see my feelings on this song relative to the others change as time goes on.. But for now, I see both Colorful World and Wandering to be perfect songs, no blemishes. I wouldn’t say the same about Witch, even if I love it. We’ll see though.
While Colorful World may just be the happiest song I’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing, Wandering has been and continues to be the most absolute classic for me. Colorful World causes immense joy, but Wandering makes me want to sing as loud as I can, something no other song causes me to do.
Well, that’s it! Hope you enjoyed some of this music and wasting your time! Until next time.

On Revolution, and Repose
Tumblr media
Artist Derrick Adams was commissioned to create a painting to accompany the following poem by Nikki Giovanni, a civil rights icon and a leader in the Black Arts Movement. For Adams, depicting civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a state of repose was a radical yet logical choice. “When you’re dealing with oppressive structures, being able to relax is a revolutionary thing,” he says. And yet there are very few images out there of Black activists at leisure. Painted from an Ebony magazine photo of King vacationing at a Jamaican resort with his family in 1967, the piece is meant to humanize a figure so often viewed as one-dimensional. “What I’m showing here is Martin as a whole person,” Adams says. “In doing so, I’m shedding light on the type of activism that can exist today—how it can be a part of anyone’s life. People can protest and then go out to lunch with their friends after. One act doesn’t negate the other.”
He believes that the juxtaposition of poem and painting helps clarify the political intent behind the work. “I like the fact that they aren’t necessarily a narration of each other but do speak to each other.” In the same way that Adams’s painting offers a multidimensional look at King, whose birthday we honor in January, Giovanni’s poem presents a candid portrait of Black life in which joy and pain, abundance and loss, revolution and repose exist simultaneously. “It’s a chance for the viewer or reader to meditate on the connection between these two objects,” Adams says. “It’s about taking a moment to look within.” —Hilary Cadigan
3-1593 400 Mulvaney Street
By Nikki Giovanni
It was a small house In a small neighborhood Their bedroom was in the front overlooking the front porch Mine in the back sharing a window Into our next door neighbor’s home Edith White always closed the curtains When darkness arrived
The living room held a piano Which I never learned to play And a television set that I remember Being awakened To see Lena Horne on Ed Sullivan The couch was a rose color print and I still have it Though now it holds mostly my books And a quilt given to me when I was diagnosed With lung cancer
Our kitchen held a pantry That I arranged And waxed Until the mice gave up And went away
Grandpapa purchased Grandmother A stove that had a deep well A forerunner to the slow cooker
The refrigerator never held chicken eggs They lay in a triangular dish Which I still have with blue pink And dark brown eggs
We had a back porch That had a rollaway bed for anyone Passing through Who needed a place to rest The dining room was special and precious The dining room table was covered with white lace And always fresh flowers In the corner was a cake platter with a crystal top And in the cabinet were the Sunday dishes That we used only when we had company There was a drawer holding Her sterling silver that she had purchased one Setting at a time I polished regularly just in case The Book Club or Civil Rights Women Or even the Church Women would come by To have Tea and discuss their next move Against segregation I was in college when I got a ride Home to spend a surprise Thanksgiving with them
I arrived on Wednesday and was so glad to be Home It was obvious Grandmother had not planned Anything special but now I was Company
She scooted across the alley to get a chicken From Reverend Abrams And my job became stringing the beans She was up early Thursday to wring The neck and I had to pluck the feathers

To magic and mystery
There is magic in all things.  You may not feel it all the time but it is there.  It shows up at the moment you need it the most and it stays as long as you feel it.  As a photographer, I see the magic in the light.  It is in the beauty of everything around me.  A musician may feel it when first touch their instrument, or when the first notes come out.  The quiver of excitement and knowing they are about to create.  These moments are easy to capture and define.  They are big and sometimes they change the world.
Magic is not just in the obvious and it is not just in the artist.  It is in everything whether you believe in it or not.  It is in the little things, like the flowers, the sky, the good and the bad.  Magic is everywhere but mostly it is inside you.
It is that moment when you feel the presence of another person and all you want to do is know their story.  This is where my tale begins.
You never know what it is that you really want and need until it is presented to you.  Josh and I always said we would go see Nikki Lane again when she came back to Salt Lake.  It happened that one day I was listening to the radio and heard she was on tour.  More than that I heard she was making her last stop in in that city. In a rash moment of decisiveness I ordered tickets.  It was to be played on a random Sunday night in Utah.  Why in God’s name would a person want to go to a concert on a random Sunday night in Utah, especially for an unknown singer?  Well because that is what Josh and I would have done.  Let girl’s night commence!
So standing in a small bar in Downtown Salt Lake City, Utah getting a watered down whiskey I first noticed a tall and mysterious man.  Too well dressed to be a grunge fan, but not looking out of place in the area.  I will keep my eye on you……
So I did.  Throughout the concert I felt him.  In the same place, the whole night.  I tried to catch his eye, knowing that mine could destroy on a single bat.  Nope, I felt him watch me but I couldn’t catch him.  All night long.  All. Night. Long.
Last song, if I don’t do it now it won’t happen.  I am not interested in going home with him.  I just want to know why he is alone.
I slide next to him and bumped his arm letting him know I was there.  My kitten heels, which by now were starting to hurt, clicking to the music.
“Why are you here alone?” This is my question.  It isn’t a pick up line.  He turns and says
“I don’t have an educated answer for that, and you are looking for trouble.”
“Maybe…….”. I let my answer hang in the air.  I am a grown up for hell’s sake!
“No, you are not.” The Fuck? Seriously?
“No, I am not.  I am looking for anything but that, right now.” How did he know? How, for hell’s sake.
We talk a little and sway to the music for the last song and cheer when she comes back for one more.  We keep talking and keep swaying.  The music ends and my best friend, my family, my rock, my other half, comes to us abandoning her post of guarding the posters I purchased for the girls. We talk Elko and music and a slight pause in my response causes Michelle to reveal my story. The cross I bare from the loss of Josh. I hide this.  I hide him, I hide the pain.  It is in the open and laying on the table.
He doesn’t flinch.  Or miss a beat.
“The truth is always best.”
“Only when it doesn’t hurt to say out loud.”
“Yes, but when you do it takes the hurt away.”
Seriously, again.
We were pleasantly surprised to hear that the nightlife in Salt Lake on a Sunday was still hopping even at the late hour of 11:30. He was headed to catch the end of another concert, about 3 blocks away.  The offer to join him was not spoken but it hung in the air like a fog.  I knew my friend was tired and her feet hurt so we called a cab and waited patiently.  As we watched him walk away I turned to my soul sister, an unspoken question in my eyes.
“Go….” She said.  “Take off your shoes and run after him.”
In that simple moment, I invited magic to invade my night.  I let the universe speak to me and I did something I would never have thought I would do in a million years.  I took off my shoes and ran after a man I had hardly met in a town I wasn’t sure of.
They say the comfort zone is nice but barren. Well, as I sprinted down the block I left my comfort zone standing and waiting for a taxi.
I don’t remember what we talked about as we walked the few blocks to the next bar.  I told him my dreams, though.
I told him about my degree and my aspirations of design.  He was a certified therapist.
“I want to help people.”
“Have you helped yourself?”
“No, I am not ready.”
“When you are ready you will do great things.”
I don’t talk to people. Opening up is hard to do and I have built a wall around me to protect myself.  For some reason, I opened up.  I allowed myself to talk to this stranger.
We missed his concert but had another drink and talked in a corner booth.  We talked about music and art. We talked about Elko and Salt Lake. As we finished our drinks we and left the bar he led me down a back alley.
“I need to show you something.”
The alley was filled with street art.  Vibrant colors and amazing work.  Monsters and Indians on motorcycles along with claws and demons and flowers all side by side.  Each piece was an expression of the artist.  Each was different but somehow they all worked and flowed.  I stood in childlike wonder looking at the walls wishing my phone was charged.
He must have felt the absolute joy in my heart because I could feel him smile.
“I want to shoot these walls.”
“Someday you will.”
Our adventure continued to a hole in the wall pizza place serving greasy New York Style slices.  Again, a corner booth and conversation.
“Why were you alone tonight?” I need to know this.
“I do a lot of things alone. Don’t you?”
“No.”
“it is quite freeing; you should try it someday.”
Our conversation was everything from religion to politics.  It was growing up and education. We even decided that the ultimate goal in life was to be able to tell your boss to go fuck themselves, but do in it a manner that is suggestive as to not turn anyone away from the idea just in case their rebel ran deep.
I laughed at this person. We laughed at each other.  Slowly the conversation turned to magic.  My postulation was that there is magic in everything. His is that there is magic in most things but not all the time.
“That feeling, that spark that you get when you first strike a chord.”  I ask.
We walk out and the air is crisp with the thawing spring.  The flowers are weeks ahead of Elko and the trees and vines were thick with leaves.
“See,” I state, throwing my arms open.  “Magic everywhere.”
I can feel him laughing. The town was settled in and most of the revelry makers were home.  The streets were abandoned.  After my first sprint after this mystery, my shoes were abandoned.  I could walk much faster without them.  Not to mention my feet were killing me from earlier walks.
I had already let my childlike wonder slip out.  My eyes were wide with wonder as we zigzagged down back roads and I realize it is safe to be me.  I twirl and giggle and let my curiosity come out.
We came up on a tree with white blossoms.  The contrast was so striking in the dark and I was drawn to the subtle beauty of it.   “Time out!”
I walked under the trees and felt the magic in the spring.  I couldn’t help but giggle and twirl.  It was contagious.  The air was filled with something that sparkled.  It is this time that anything could happen.  The night was filled with possibilities.  As I giggled and twirled he calmly walked on the edge of the curb silently smiling.
“How do you feel?”
“Crazy enough,” I turn and look at him. “Happy and not claustrophobic.”
“That is because the city agrees with you.”
The short walk to the hotel was filled with more stories, twirls and laughter.  He walked me to the elevator.  We stood for half a moment.  Each one deciding what to do.  He leaned in just as I stood on my tippy toes.  My arms tangled around his neck and we softly kissed. The kind of kiss that says hello and goodbye at the same time.  A kiss full of innocence and laughter.  No expectations were in this kiss and we softly bid each other goodbye.
Magic.  I didn’t get his phone number and I didn’t offer mine. I didn’t even get his last name, but again, I didn’t offer mine either.  If the universe wants me to see this man again I will.  Until then, the lesions in life and the ability to talk to someone was magic.
I don’t know if you were an angel.  I don’t know if you were sent to me by My Angel.  I don’t know if you were My Angel.  I just know this was magic and I thank you for the whole evening.
The future is still unclear, but I know that as long as I keep knocking at doors the universe will open the one it wants us to go through.

Writers channel the crises we face everyday through layers of fiction, allowing readers to dissect universal struggles through a vibrant, askew lens. Join a panel of stellar scribes including Kyle Higgins (THE DEAD HAND), Gerry Duggan (ANALOG), Tee Franklin (BINGO LOVE), Tini Howard (HACK/SLASH: RESURRECTION) and some very special guests as they discuss the friction that gave way to their latest works.

CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED NEW ALBUM SHINE ON RAINY DAY OUT NOW
TOUR DATES CONFIRMED WITH CHRIS STAPLETON, LITTLE BIG TOWN, NIKKI LANE AND THE CADILLAC THREE AS WELL AS AN APPEARANCE AT STAGECOACH.
Brent Cobb’s NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert premieres today and is now available to view here. Of the performance, NPR’s music Lars Gotrich praises, “precisely crafted phrases amid simple-yet-rich melodies…the words shimmer like a tall glass of sweet tea in the late-morning sun when he strings together a particularly consonant phrase…”
The concert includes performances of “Solving Problems,” “Down in the Gulley,” “Country Bound” and “Shine On Rainy Day,” which are all featured on Brent’s acclaimed major label debut album, Shine On Rainy Day, now available on Low Country Sound/Elektra Records (purchase here).
Produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, etc.), the album was recorded live over four days in Nashville and has received overwhelming acclaim since it’s release last year…
“…a trait that pushes all the right buttons throughout the ten tracks on this impressive effort that proves these relatives with impeccable musical synergy have more than just bloodlines in common.”—American Songwriter
“…it harkens back to the early ‘70s when country music collided with folk-rock in the music of Glen Campbell, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Gram Parsons, and others. It’s a stellar set the Cobb cousins have offered up.” —Folk Alley, Best of 2016
“Brent Cobb paints the joy and sadness of rural life in stunning detail…”—Nashville Scene
“A blend of attitude and inspiration, Shine on Rainy Day may be the ideal antidote for today’s troubling times.”—No Depression
“…masterfully understated wit…”—NPR Music
“…a modest sort of perfection: homey, comforting, steadfast.”—Rolling Stone, 40 Best Country Albums of 2016
“…what promises to be cobb’s breakout LP as a singer-songwriter.”—Rolling Stone
“The new record is an outstanding piece of work and a collection of true, country songs.”—The Tennessean
“This is one softly understated collection of country songs from a guy who makes a living writing for more commercial country artists. The front-porch feel and the ease of Brent Cobb’s playing make for a simple and beautiful album.” —WXPN World Café, David Dye’s Top 10 Albums of 2016
“…a gorgeous solo album that promises to place him in the top echelon of this century’s young troubadours…”—WXPN World Café
Brent is currently in the midst of an extensive worldwide tour including upcoming dates supporting Chris Stapleton, Nikki Lane, The Cadillac Three, and Little Big Town as well as an appearance at Stagecoach. See below for complete tour details.
Of the music and working with producer (and cousin) Dave Cobb, Brent comments, “It’s not as good as it’s going to get. But if it’s the last thing that I ever do, if I died the day after it came out, then thank God I was able to record it because the songs and the production, it was everything I wanted to say. Finally.”
Dave adds, “I wanted to work with Brent for very selfish reasons. When he lifts a pen and opens his mouth, it sounds like home. I did his record because he’s part of the fabric of South Georgia and the soundtrack to my family. Pure rural country soul filled music.”
Earlier this year, Brent was featured on Dave’s widely praised Southern Family compilation—contributing the song “Down Home” and writing the standout “Sweet By & By,” which was recorded by Miranda Lambert. Of “Down Home,” Wide Open Country declares, “…one of the most earnest and accurate retellings of everyday life in rural Georgia. The mixture of Cobb’s charming southern drawl, brilliant storytelling and flawless production melds into a track that is impossible to resist.”
Born in Ellaville, GA (population 1,609), Brent moved to Nashville in 2008 and has since found widespread success as a writer with songs recorded by Lambert (“Old Shit”), Kenny Chesney (“Don’t It”), Luke Bryan (“Tailgate Blues”), David Nail (“Grandpa’s Farm”), Kellie Pickler (“Rockaway”) and Eli Young Band (“Go Outside and Dance”) among others.
