“To Buy, Or Not To Buy? That Is The Question!”
CNBC published an article on their website on Monday titled "This agricultural trade is bottoming with more upside likely ahead, according to the charts".
Okay, I’m not disputing this article now, but let's assume the author is right and we shall expect prices to rise. Coincidentally, this happens when the Northern Hemisphere is entering a phase of slow demand, dictated by the end of the spring application programme. So, will a possible uptick in agricultural prices trigger the purchase and price of fertilisers, particularly nitrogen?
My view on urea supply these days is quite simple: any importer, in any part of the world, can have a shipment of any quantity of urea within the latest two weeks from the moment of placing the purchase order:
- Brazil is easily covered by floating cargoes, urea from Russia and Nigeria.
- India - well, you know it better than me.
- Europe is a sandbox of Algeria, Egypt, and Russia.
- Etc...
This makes the summer refill programme less attractive for importers and farmers unless an exchange ratio between future crop prices and fertilisers becomes very attractive. Question - what does "attractive" mean? How much is the fish?
Let’s look at Egypt, which was a newsmaker yesterday, with several Egyptian producers selling 85,000 metric tonnes in the range of $286-293 per metric ton FOB. Corn on the CBOT meanwhile ended the day at $4.78 per bushel, making the ratio equal to 59.83 (using the lower indication of $286 per metric ton). Last year, a similar price of $285 per metric ton FOB was the lowest indication, before the market took off and was reported on June 6, 2023. Corn cost $5.34 per bushel, making the ratio equal to 53.37.
If we follow the logic, and based on today’s corn prices, urea should be around $255 per metric ton to be considered "attractive" for a stock refill purchase. Or even lower. Needless to say, it's way too early to talk about "refill" at all.
I do think that yesterday's purchases in Egypt were made to cover the existing shorts in Europe and to catch the last demand of this prolonged spring demand. Sorry, my fellow friends-producers, but I still think another correction is on the way.
However, I’ve been wrong many times before!

It’s easy to think that more nutrients — the stuff life needs to grow and thrive — would foster more vibrant ecosystems. Yet nutrient pollution has in fact wrought havoc on marine systems, contributing to harmful algae blooms, worse water quality and oxygen-poor dead zones.
A team of researchers from UC Santa Barbara has proposed a novel strategy for reducing large amounts of nutrients — specifically nitrogen and phosphorus — after they have already been released into the environment. In a study appearing in the journal Marine Policy, the authors contend that seaweed’s incredible ability to draw nutrients from the water could provide an efficient and cost-effective solution. Looking at the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, the team identified over 63,000 square kilometers suitable for seaweed aquaculture.
“A key goal of conservation ecology is to understand and maintain the natural balance of ecosystems, because human activity tends to tip things out of balance,” said co-author Darcy Bradley, co-director of the Ocean and Fisheries Program at the university’s Environmental Markets Lab. Activities on land, like industrial-scale farming, send lots of nutrients into waterways where they accumulate and flow into the ocean in greater quantities than they naturally would.
Opportunistic algae and microbes take advantage of the glut of nutrients, which fuel massive blooms. This growth can have all kinds of consequences, from producing biotoxins to smothering habitats in virtual monocultures. And while these algae produce oxygen when they’re alive, they die so suddenly and in such volume that their rapid decomposition consumes all the available oxygen in the water, transforming huge swaths of the ocean into so-called “dead zones.”
Cultivated seaweed could draw down available nutrients, the authors claim, limiting the resources for unchecked growth of nuisance algae and microbes. Seaweeds also produce oxygen, which could alleviate the development of hypoxic dead zones.
The authors analyzed data from the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, which they say exemplifies the challenges associated with nutrient pollution. More than 800 watersheds across 32 states deliver nutrients to the Gulf, which has led to a growing low-oxygen dead zone. In 2019, this dead zone stretched just over 18,000 square kilometers, slightly smaller than the area of New Jersey.

Using open-source oceanographic and human-use data, the team identified areas of the gulf suitable for seaweed cultivation. They found roughly 9% of the United States’ exclusive economic zone in the gulf could support seaweed aquaculture, particularly off the west coast of Florida.
“Cultivating seaweed in less than 1% of the U.S. Gulf of Mexico could potentially reach the country’s pollution reduction goals that, for decades, have been difficult to achieve,” said lead author Phoebe Racine, a Ph.D. candidate at UCSB’s Bren School of Environmental Science & Management.
“Dealing with nutrient pollution is difficult and expensive,” Bradley added. The U.S. alone spends more than $27 billion every year on wastewater treatment.
Many regions employ water quality trading programs to manage this issue. In these cap-and-trade systems regulators set a limit on the amount of a pollutant that can be released, and then entities trade credits in a market. Water quality trading programs exist all over the U.S., though they are often small, bespoke and can be ephemeral. That said, they show a lot of promise and, according to Racine, have bipartisan support.

Seaweed aquaculture would fit nicely within these initiatives. “Depending on farming costs and efficiency, seaweed aquaculture could be financed by water quality trading markets for anywhere between $2 and $70 per kilogram of nitrogen removed,” Racine said, “which is within range of observed credit prices in existing markets.”
What’s more, the researchers note that demand is rising for seaweed in food and industry sectors. Potential products include biofuel, fertilizer and food, depending on the water quality, Racine said. This means that, unlike many remediation strategies, seaweed aquaculture could pay for itself or even generate revenue.
And the time seems ripe for the authors’ proposal. “The U.S. has traditionally had a lot of barriers to getting aquaculture in the ocean,” Bradley explained. “But there is mounting political support in the form of drafted bills and a signed executive order that could catalyze the expansion of the U.S. aquaculture industry.”
This study is the first of several to come out of the Seaweed Working Group, an interdisciplinary group of researchers looking to understand and chart the potential of seaweed aquaculture’s benefits to society. They are currently investigating a range of other ecosystem services that seaweed cultivation could provide, such as benefits to surrounding fisheries and carbon capture. The researchers are also working on a paper that explores nitrogen and phosphorous removal at the national level with fine-scale scale analysis modeling nutrient removal from native seaweeds off the coast of Florida.
As long as humans continue adding nutrients to the environment, nature will find ways to use them. By deliberately cultivating seaweeds, we can grow algae that we know are benign, helpful, or even potentially useful, rather than the opportunistic algae that currently draw upon these excess nutrients.

Altering pH, what's it for, how do you do it?
We've heard it a lot before, "I don't need a certain pH, I just need a stable pH" and we've never questioned it. And why should we? What is pH, the measured scale of acidic to alkaline, and how does it effect the lives of our fish in the aquaria and outside of it? 
First let's start off with what it is. As mentioned above, pH is a scale with which you measure the acidity or alkalinity of a liquid, your soil, even some parts of your body, and more. Here's a good chart.

Here’s the short and sweet version:
You can’t just dunk in a bunch of pH down to lower your pH, or you’ll cause the pH to drop, then rise back up, and kill your fish.
You have to determine your kH and pH from the tap
High kH will prevent your pH from being lowered because of its high buffering capabilities, low kH will make your pH swing wildly because of its lack of buffering capabilities
Play around with altering your water in an unstocked tank to get a feel for the procedure and how much remineralizer to use or chemical buffers to use without harming your fish.
RO/DI will give you water with 0 kH and 0 gH. Use Salty Shrimp gH/kH+ to remineralize. A kH value between 4-6 will allow you to safely alter your pH without it swinging. You need to add gH because it contains essential minerals fish and plants need to live.

We all agree that Rift Lake cichlids and saltwater fish need a certain water chemistry, they've evolved to live and flourish only in those water conditions, and taking them out long term can be detrimental to their health and cause illness and shorten their lifespans. Fish that evolved to be acidophiles evolved a specific way for a reason, and a few generations in captivity doesn't change that. In fact many breeders don't breed in hard water, but soften their water using RO/DI for these acid loving fish, and raise them in these conditions. This is why when you bring home cardinal tetras, you see a massive die off because you're taking fish kept in neutral to below neutral waters and adding them to a tank that had your tap with a pH of 8 and it shocks them and kills them.
Okay, great, you're thinking, you told me a bunch of stuff but haven't told me how to change my pH.
In order to to adjust your pH, you need to know your kH (carbonate hardness). It's the carbonate hardness that determines your pH in MOST situations (Sulawesi need not apply, the waters there are soft but the pH is alkaline!).
My friend @justnoodlefishthings can explain it way better than me: "Carbonate hardness, or kH, is the measure of calcium carbonate in the water. Calcium carbonate will dissociate into calcium and carbonate ions in water. The carbonate ions are unstable and unhappy and thus will readily suck up all available hydrogen ions in the water. The more hydrogen ions you have in water, the more acidic it is and vice versa for basicity. So, if you have a high kH, then there are not a lot of H+’s floating around to make the water any more acidic than what it already is. This prevents the pH from swinging wildly in any direction."
What this means is that it's crucial to know your kH in order to adjust your pH. You can't just add tannins and go "well that should do it!", otherwise you'll get alkaline tea water.
This is the range you're looking for when altering: 4-6 kH. The higher you get, the harder it is to lower your pH, and the lower you get, the more your pH will swing randomly without the buffering capabilities of your kH. That means your pH can swing to bother very acidic levels, like a peat swamp, or very alkaline levels, like a Sulawesi lake, despite having no kH.
Alright, so then how do I actually do it?
After testing your tap and determining your starting pH and kH, and you know you wanna keep specialized acidophiles, you realize you gotta do something. Your kH is reading at 8 and your pH is reading at 7.8, both of these things are the opposite of what you need. How can you fix this?
The safest is way is by getting RO/DI water from your LFS, or investing in a system of your own. They're not expensive compared to other tank equipment, roughly $60 can get you a nice RO Buddy off of Amazon. Your LFS prices may vary, but my advice is to get about ten gallons of RO from your LFS (it'll usually be $10-$15) and you can always try out altering the tank before getting any stock and seeing how you feel about this. You need to remineralize the RO/DI water, Salty Shrimp gH/kH+ is what I recommend so that you can have some kH for its buffering and stabilizing properties, and you need to add gH back into your tank. gH, calcium, magnesium and other minerals, are vital to fish and plants and all bodies of water contain varying amounts. 
Remember, you want your pH low, but stable, so aim for that 4-5 kH sweet spot. You can play around and get used to mixing the water and finding out your ratios before worrying about if you'll harm your stock if you do this with an empty tank. 
Adding botanicals to your water once it’s at that sweet spot will bring and keep your pH down. Botanicals would be any organic matter that releases tannins and humic acid; leaf litter, seed pods, coconot coir, etc. Here’s a fun chart that shows the different leaves you can use (and you can collect yourself) as well as the tannin outputs.

You can also peruse the catalog of Tannin Aquatics to get some fun things, but be aware that seed pods do eventually rot and you’ll want to periodically pull them out if you notice it being a bit too funky. A slight sulfur smell is okay, that’s the organic material breaking down, but if it smells like rancid farts you’ll want to cycle it out with a new pod.
Another, more expensive route, is to use an aquasoil with your RO/DI water. Aquasoils are things like ADA Amazonia, UNS, Fluval, etc. They’re clay-based, high CEC (cation exchange capacity) which means they’re excellent for your planted tanks. They absorb nutrients from your water and hold onto it so that your plants can use it continuously. It’s also an active soil, it will buffer your pH to around 6 and keep it there without needing to use an additive to raise your kH, but you will need to raise you gH, which would be your calcium and magnesium and other minerals that are vital to fish and plant health. There’s downsides beside the cost; they leech a lot of ammonia when you add them, and can take a month to subside, though this aids in starting a cycle. They will break down over time and turn into mud, and you can’t disturb the soil or have digging fish otherwise they’ll generate massive mud clouds. They also eventually need to be replaced every two years or so, and if you’re like me you don’t like the idea of needing to break down a tank every two years. This is, however, a good option if you’re okay with the above downsides.
You can also use chemical buffers to do all of this work, acid buffer will break down your kH and create co2, and allow for your pH to drop, neutral regulator will soften your water the same way but keep your pH, well, at a neutral 7. I’ve used acid buffer successfully, you just need to follow the directions on the bottle, but you can also experiment with this the same way you would with the RO/DI water.
Remember this, though, below a pH of 5, most bacteria that aid in the nitrogen cycle are unable to live because of the highly acidic conditions. In these extremely low pH environments, they’re peat bogs typically, and peat bogs have one important kind of plant that makes it a peat bog; the sphagnum moss. The sphagnum acts as the beneficial bacteria in this situation, as it takes in the ammonia and nitrogen the bacteria typically would, and uses it up, eliminating it from the water. This is how low pH peat bogs and swamps “cycle” themselves! And why leaving the sphagnum moss alone in these places is important, because they’re the very livelihood of the swamps and bogs. You can always obtain sustainably grown sphagnum moss if you’re looking to replicate a peat bog of your own and allow it to float on the surface in a mat of other mosses, leaves and organic matter, just like you’d see in a real bog.

Ha ha! "Donated" by Rex Mason. What a complete and utter dick.
I get how exciting it must have been to be a looter of other countries' treasures. I did play a lot of Dungeons & Dragons as a kid and I never once thought about the poor orc whose home I was invading so I could shove a sword up his ass and steal his precious copper pieces (which I was absolutely disappointed in). Sure, it seems fucked up when you think about it like that. But that's before you remember the alignment system! The orc was automatically the bad guy with his evil alignment! Anything you wanted to do to him was just fine! He was the bad guy! If he didn't want me stealing his copper, maybe he should have made a show of giving up his evil ways and took on the trappings of man and elf! But no! He was content to sit in his dirty hole with his dirty family eking out a dirty living being a rotten, evil monster worth a few lousy experience points. You can't make me care about that stupid orc no matter how many John Gardner wannabes write Grendelesque fan fiction about how the bad person was just a regular ordinary person who got the short end of life's dumb stick! It's fucking propaganda! Wicked, my ass! Don't go making excuses for that witch! She knew what she was doing when she chose a life of flying monkeys and stealing shoes!

It's weird to think that Western Civilization has mostly come to the realization that all of these treasures in museums were found at all. Sure, the people in power and the people in charge mostly aren't coming to that conclusion because why would you when you own everything now? But we understand the context of archaeological theft much better. But even as kids watching Raiders of the Lost Ark, how did we not realize Indy was obviously stealing that golden idol right at the beginning? It was in a secure location guarded by traps and after he stole it, the owners tried to chase him down to stop it. And he was as good a guy as you could get in 1981! I guess when one of the greatest tenets of capitalism is "Finders keepers, losers weepers," it's understandable that we all rooted on a terrible thief of cultural artifacts. Rex Mason has given up his exciting career of liberating treasures from dolts who don't know the value of their sacred religious objects because stealing from primitive people and Yetis who just want to be left alone has become too easy. Also he's full of guilt over having a son. His son must live in quarantine since he can turn whatever he touches into other elements. Sapphire's right breast is now polonium. I'm not even going to be distracted from reading this comic book by pondering how Metamorpho had a kid. Last I checked, spermatozoa wasn't on the periodic table of elements. The greatest female archaeologist, Jillian Conway, arrives to tell Rex she's found a cure for his condition (and probably his son's too!). Apparently the Orb of Ra won't kill Metamorpho; it'll cure him if he allows himself to succumb to its power. And she knows this because she was exposed to the meteorite too!

Rex agrees to go looking for the Orb of Ra (which was stolen from Stagg) with Jillian. At first, I thought things were going to get romantic. And then I thought things might get alchemic. But then Rex decided the first thing he should do is kidnap his son and bring him on the adventure with them. So I guess this is going to be one of those kinds of stories. A wacky family comedy where dad has to handle the baby all by himself on a trip around the world while the too-disgusting-to-look-at love interest gets ignored. Rex leaves a note for Sapphire but her father trashes it and just tells her Rex kidnapped their son. Why she might believe him and how she came to marry Java, fuck if I know. This was back when DC actually allowed characters to have involved and intimate relationships that led to weird freak baby children!

I didn't realize it was canon that Sapphire Stagg is the best looking woman in the DC Universe (followed closely by Abigail Arcane).
Metamorpho #1 Rating: A-. Not a bad start to a nice little story about fatherhood, capitalism, and second marriages. It might also be about ugly people because all but one of these characters are hideous freaks. Sure, most characters would be hideous freaks compared to Sapphire Stagg. But even disregarding her ethereal beauty so powerful that I've already struck Erin Esurance from the top of my list of cartoon characters I want to touch in a sexy place, they're all disgusting monsters. I just made that list up. It doesn't actually exist. Never mind what I'm holding behind my back.

FEBRUARY SCHEDULE
Each schedule post provides a snapshot into the way the company is marketing your group as a whole, the expectations they have for your involvement in the industry, and so forth. They’ll range from fun things like CF deals to run of the mill events like fan parties, concerts, or rest time. We’ll be varying things across the board and using this as a way to tease upcoming plot lines for groups. Schedules illuminate the often difficult realities of being an idol, and because of that we award +5 exp / + 5 sp to those who complete a 350+ 4/4 thread or a 500 word solo. Solos must be completed during the three week run of the schedule, but threads may be finished after the end of the prompt provided they were started well in excess of the end point (e.g. finishing up a reply or two after is fine, but posting the starter right before the next prompt goes up is not). These needn’t be taken extremely literally when threading and are open to tangential preparation threads and other flexibility.
OLYMPUS
As promotions for Universe wrap up and goodbye stages are recorded, the boys are sitting pretty at the top of the charts fairly consistently, with the song truly outperforming expectations. Perhaps as a result, to continue building momentum, the boys will begin a one day filming for an upcoming short v-live series, Olympus Arcade. They’ll play a variety of games over the course of the day to be rewarded with snacks and penalties for the losing team. The episodes will be divided over 5 15 minute increments.
JINX
The girls of JiNX are guesting on A Real Man, in a brief one episode appearance. They’ll be doing a special concert for the soldiers as a thank you for their service and dedication. THey’ll have the chance to perform with some civilian soldiers, as well as performing a few of their hit songs from throughout their career.  It’s certain to give the soldiers something to talk about happily for weeks to come, as well as keep the girls in the spotlight between promotions. TITANIUM
The boys of Titanium will be appearing on Kiss the Radio for a New Year’s special greeting. They’ll be given the chance to engage with viewers in q&a sessions and advice giving across the hours they’ll be guesting on the show, as well as an opportunity to sing a few of their songs completely live.  It’s sure to showcase a new and special side of the boys, given they’re known for such thematic performances- this will give fans a chance to see a more pared back rendition!
AURORA
Aurora will be doing a special cover stage for the new year, performing the classic Girl’s Generation Into the New World, a fitting message of uplifting hope for the new year and, frankly, something of a right of passage for all girl groups. They’ll be performing it on a special episode of Music Premiere and will be given a short opportunity to film a special New Year greeting for fans thereafter. HEAVEN
With a much anticipated comeback on the horizon, the girls of Heaven are expected to be hard at work. They’ll be filming promotional material this month, alongside the music video for the upcoming track Windflower. Expectations are high as this will be the first time the girls really and truly demonstrate they’re making a hard break from the summer promotional aesthetic, instead of toeing the line of the edge of summer as they have with some of their more recent promotions. It also leads to rumors that the new co-ed group’s debut aims to take over the summer market, perhaps causing some pressure on Heaven to solidify their new role.
POIZN
After a stellar year and with Imperial sidelined by scandal, POIZN is back on top in 99 in terms of CEO favoritism, and on a related note will spend the month of February preparing for an Asia tour, canvassing China, Korea, Japan, and some stops in Southeast Asia as well. They’ll be tasked with selecting solo song performances, preparing their choreography for all songs involved,and going through the rigorous process of styling and preparation that will come with the upcoming grueling schedules. Promotional materials will begin shooting right after Seollal, starting with concert VCRs and promotional images for merchandise and advertisements. Get yourself in shape boys, it’s not going to be easy!
IMPERIAL
As a special track for the popular Reply 1997 drama, the boys of Imperial will be doing a cover of the Sechs Kies song Dear Love, updated for the present day! It’s sure to cause a bit of a buzz given the involvement between a member of Imperial and the lead actress of the show. It’s definitely a noise marketing attempt, and one that will likely pay off in a big way, at least in terms of general attention brought to the show and the group in turn, as well as bringing alongside it a healthy dose of criticism. CHERRY BOMB!
CHERRY BOMB! is ramping up for the future, picking up a brand deal with Etude House. This is a good step forward for the girls, as they need to be establishing themselves firmly so that the rookie girl group of MSG can grow in their own right. They’ll be spending a packed two days of filming on the commercial series as well as the various promotional photographs to be displayed in advertisements and stores across the country. It’s a more moody aesthetic than Etude House often goes for, to reflect the season and the girl’s aesthetic. They’ll each have a fun color named after them in the new lip lacquer line. INDIGO
With a comeback in the first half of February, the boys are hard at work preparing. Last minute finalizations on song and stage choreography are in order, alongside reviewing the final product in terms of video, styling choices, and more. It’s a sprint to the comeback stages at this point, as well as a month of hard work on music shows nad promotional activities alike. Notably the boys will be featured on Idol Master where they will have a chance to greet fans, show off their charms, and provide a signed album copy to be auctioned off to a member of the audience, whom they’ll have a chance to communicate with via video call, where they can turn the tables and ask the fans questions, too! 1NFERNO & MAYDAY
Following the steps of Atlas in the past, 1nferno and MayDay will be joining the new season of Birth of a Family! This time the series will follow two groups and two sets of dogs, taken care of by 1nferno and MayDay in what is clearly a bit of a two for the price of one deal that certainly appealed to producers. They’ll be taking care of two dogs per group for the next month, and will be tasked with caring for them, training them, and promoting the importance of adopting, not shopping, and raising awareness of animal abandonment in South Korea! Feel free to take some creative license with your members regarding breed and names of the dogs!
ATLAS
With a comeback in the second half of the month, Atlas is hard at work on filming and preparation. Last minute choreography adjustments are always a given with Atlas, so the boys will be working through that, as well as recording a New Year greeting for their fans, complete with hanbok! There’s a rumor, o f course, that the hanbok motif and the fun traditional music backing the greeting are a secret teaser in and of themselves, but even the boys won’t confirm it publicly.  They’re at the end of filming for the music video and teasers and will be recording the dance practice version soon as well. It’ll be a packed schedule leading up into promotions.
JAWBREAKER
With some successful work for KJH under their belt, Jawbreaker will be filming GO! season two for their Vlive series, continuing to follow in the footsteps of Atlas Run! They’ll be playing a “find the criminal” style game at Jobworld, taking on the roles of flower shop owner (main dance), bakery owner (lead/lead), mart owner (main rap), and policewoman (main vocal)! They’ll be following the general goal and format of BTS RUN episodes 47 and 48, which can also have been assumed to have taken place in character with Atlas in the past, furthering a brother/sister narrative to the groups, despite the atypical story of Jawbreaker’s genesis.
NITRO
Taking a leaf out of KJH’s book, Nitro will be following in the footsteps of other artists and starting a VLive show. However, it will be mostly in a self-produced and self-filmed format that KTM hopes will further their relatable and approachable imagery, continuing a close connection with the fans. The show will be named NITROus, as both a play on their chemical referencing fan name combination (NITRO+gen = nitrogen) and as a message that they will always be close to the fans. For the first episode they’ll be eating and talking together at a meat restaurant, demonstrating their natural affection and friendliness and boyish attitudes. The reference link can be found here. It can be assumed they’ll continue filming with the second episode and third in this month as well, though their releases may be staggered.
XLNC
WIth a comeback in the second half of the month, XLNC are hard at work finishing the polishing notes of their b-sides, as well as preparing for their various guerilla and busking promotional activities. As usual, promotion for XLNC is somewhat lacking as it is not typical “idol” fare. However, the boys have recently been enrolled in intensive and mandatory Japanese lessons, which gives rise to the question of what might be in store for them in a few months. They’ll be expected to study simultaneously with their music show promotional schedule this month, so they’re sure to be quite tired.
NIGHTMARE
With a debut from the Dawn subunit on the horizon, the girls are in a flurry. Everyone seems to be working on something different. Dusk’s promotions will follow shortly after Dawn’s wrap up, so they’re already hard at work finishing the filming for their videos, even as Dawn begin promoting on music shows. Eve on the other hand are in the song and image selection portion of things, as Dawn has been assigned a bright and fresh image more prone to ballads, with Dusk taking on a quirky creepy and electropop image, it seems that Eve will be left with a more girl-crush tonality, bolstered by the fact the two rappers of the group have been assigned that unit. This gives Nightmare muns a lot of room to explore reactions to subunit styling.

Breathing to live or to die
The ecological distress has challenged the functionings of the environment. The process of breathing was made to circulate the oxygen in the body, thereby eliminating carbon dioxide which allowed the blood to reach the capillaries surroundings alveoli. But, what reaching now are the hazardous gases infused with life casting agents.
But is it really oxygen we are breathing in? Are we even breathing in 50% concentration of the oxygen?
Though it is hard to find the exact percentages because of the unrevised technology in the country. The CPBCI has a disclaimer offering to make. According to the central pollution board control of India(CPBCI) the capital air doesn’t just has very high particulate matter level, but also contains hazardous air pollutants including mercury and formaldehyde. The board is also monitoring gases like sulphur dioxide (SO2), ozone (O3), nitric oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), formaldehyde (FOR), benzene (BEN), toluene (TOL), p-Xylene(pXy) and mercury (Hg), most of which are categorised as air toxics in the US and in Europe.
What made situation so worse?
Vehicular emissions
Vehicular emissions tops the chart for Delhi air pollution. Delhi streets experience the movement of about a crore vehicle regularly. The emissions of which are the Gases which leads to deaths and various life claiming diseases. The congestion or the high traffic rates contributes brutally.
Government regulation
Earlier the Delhi government came up with the odd even regulation which insisted the use of an odd number plate car on the odd days and even on the even days. This regulation does not posses the capability of controlling the pollution level for a long run.
The centre has also banned the use of diesel vehicles which have been on the streets for more than 10 years. The count for the petrol is 15 years.
Though it is a delayed regulation but impacts significantly.
Crop burning
The farmers of the states joining the capital border i.e. Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh possess the trait of burning the rice stubbles which in turn contribute immensely to the booming pollution. They burn about 35 million tonnes of crop. The wind then spreads the polluting agents to the neighbouring states.
Government regulation
Haryana government launched a massive campaign to aware the farmers about the ills effects of burning the crop. In response to which the farmers presents there bid as a failing effort by the Government as they were unable to conquer the aspect of decomposing paddy straw in a short interval of rabi and kharif crops.
Over population
The 2018 recent survey of the times of India had regarded Delhi as the migrant capital of the country with a share increase of 33% in the year 2016. Stressing over the point that about half of the population of the capital resides in unauthorised colonies and slums . This includes bad drainage system, open defection, unclean surroundings, etc . Thus, contributing to the escalating pollution level.
The pollution increase has also coined a term called pollution migrants. These are the people who has migrated from Delhi because of the unforgivable pollution Level.
Government regulation
Constitution of India empowers wilfully living and earning in every part of the country to its citizen ,j&k being an exception. So there is hardly any take of the government in regulating the mass mobilisation. The combination of structured and rigid spendings and overpopulation is contributing against the availability of the required resources.
Industrial residue
