A character story arc about heritage and legacy wrapped up in the supernatural metaphor of angel vs demon. Discovering who she is within the family and within herself. A very powerful story to tell. All the conflict that comes with believing you’re less than the people around you. Your family and friends. Your lifestyle. Your world. It all gets upended when you find out that you’re not who/what you thought you were. And even though it’s something that can break you, you still find the strength and power within to fight because those same people around you still love you for who/what you are and will always remind you that you’re an integral part of their lives and are still their family even if not blood related. Or only half blood.
That’s Waverly’s entire storyline and it’s wonderful. I think they fumbled a bit with the whole Dark Angel Waverly thing at the end of the show but I understood the overall message behind her becoming this celestial entity by birthright and then rejecting the responsibility of it to be with her family and friends.
Your destiny doesn’t make you.
You make your destiny.
When Nicole basically sacrificed and traded her life and freedom for Waverly’s in becoming the Angel’s Shield a much stronger statement was made by it.
Which is that we would always choose who we love and who have been with us all along over the mantle.
Especially if taking the mantle meant loneliness and separation from any kind of human connection.
WAVERLY: “The guardians of the Garden do not get to love.”
WYNONNA: “You’re not just the guardian. You are an Earp.”

if there's one thing this last episode has affirmed for me about Alastor it's that he FUCKING HATES being reminded that he's not the most powerful creature in hell.
Like, he hates being ignored by Carmilla when she says she doesn't care why he was gone
He hates Lucifer ON SIGHT
He threatens to KILL Husk when he dares to mention that Alastor is working for someone more powerful than him
and now this.
Alastor freaking out because he almost died. Something almost killed him. He can fucking die. There is something more powerful than him out there. And it's not something he can ignore or brush off because it almost killed him.
Alastor hates the reminder that he's not as powerful as he tells people he is. He isn't indestructible, he isn't invincible. And he fucking hates that.
