ok I get the noelle part of your url but what’s the “vanious” mean. Like what’s the other word that got smashed in there.

Process was like this:

I noticed in like 2008 that the srb2 community had lots of players with two words mushed together as a named. so Thundernova.

realized that like. an absurd amount of people go by some variation of Nova online. so Novanious.

Found out i was actually a girl. my name is Noelle. wanted a new username. Thus Noellevanious.

I've been trying to come up with a new name integrating Noelle in some way for like a year (my nsfw blog, Noellenescent, came from a friend's suggestion for a new handle/username).

It sounds kinda silly and isnt a "real word" but it's unique, and the way it flows off the tongue is satisfying, and the issue of people never saying it right has persisted in my life for years (I just got called Noah in real life for example), so it's very much a "Grass is greener on the other side" situation

I have other usernames I go/went by, so if you know/remember any of them, feel free to shout them out! My URL for a while was glumpkusmurphey for a while (part of a joke where friends and i formed a Law Office/Ghost Hunting team called Murphey, Murphey, and Murphey Attorneys at Law).

A couple days ago, one of my mutuals posted about her villains and antagonists, which got me to thinking about villains and antagonists. More specifically, about what differentiates the two. I just don't think I have the clear differentiation in my mind that she does in hers.

But damn if it isn't interesting to ponder.

Especially as I don't feel a whole lot of doubt about whether specific characters are one or the other. It's just in trying to define why they are one or the other that it all gets weirdly blurry. Particularly when I think about my own works.

And part of the problem there might be that I'm rather lacking in pure, ideal heroes and a lot of the ways that one might draw a line between antagonist and villain go kind of sideways when the heroes are criminals, spies, or otherwise engaged in work of less than shiny morality. (Even Novani and Master Cereb are doing good by methods that are more practical than chivalric. Whatever the Jedi version of chivalry might be.)

I may in one sense write about good guys and bad guys, but I have always been drawn to a certain cheerful sort of moral complexity. What's right and what's legal aren't necessarily the same. Nor are all wrongs equally weighted.

That last should probably also be where I divide villains from other antagonists, and it sort of is.... but it also sort of isn't. Or maybe I'm just running into the fact that Star Wars is more of a nobledark franchise than a noblebright one. The world is shit, institutions tend to go bad, people are a mixed bag...and if you work at it, you can still make a difference.

Or maybe it's the scale. When even your villains are relatively small scale, the difference between their terrible actions and your antagonists' terrible actions isn't that large.

Or maybe it's that I allow "antagonists" terrible actions in the first place.

These dividing lines are hard, man. Even my good guys have done things that they, themselves, think are wrong!

(On the other hand, if they weren't good guys, would they think those things were wrong?)

Is it all down to which characters I find sympathetic? Villains get only bad (but understandable) motives while those in the antagonist category get some good motives as well?

Or is it all down to whether they see people as people? Villains see people as means to an end, or variables to manipulate, or worse, while antagonists and the good guys see people as people?

Or maybe it's a combination of things. Collect X number of traits from the villain list to move beyond mere antagonist land.

I'm not sure. I am sure that Lord Dralick is a villain (he was created to be one!), and no amount of treating his employees well because he understands how loyalty works changes that. Ficverse!Rogun is a villain. So are all of the other antagonists I've borrowed from the game, from Skavak to the Intelligence guy who gave Kyrian his mission in "Conflicts of Interest" They've all helped themselves to enough Villain M&Ms to qualify.

While characters like Vrei (despite being head of security for a Hutt factory, involved in a kidnapping plot, and willing to rough up a prisoner, if one she saw as a villain) and Savler (despite her amoral take on bounty hunting, not to mention attempting to betray her friend's trust...for said friend's own good) have been more restrained with the evilness candies.

...ooor maybe it's that everyone who manages to stay in mere antagonist land could be a protagonist. Perhaps a bit into anti-hero territory, but still an unqualified protagonist. While everyone on the villain list would still be villains if flipped to protagonist status. (Because of all those Villain M&Ms.)

(Meanwhile, my protagonists can--and occasionally have--been antagonists for other people.)

Yeesh, if I wanted morally complicated, I sure seem to have hit the mark.

[X] My Type [AMV] by Blue Death - The vibe of this song is perfect for Part 2; it has a suave vibe. I love how in the song you can hear someone breathing out like in Part 2 Joseph had to watch out for the right breathing. The editing is top notch.

[X] Part 2 AMV-Satellite by Giblow 20 - It's a cool AMV, I was surprised by the song choice but it's a good choice. And the editing is great too.

[X] Joseph AMV (Overdrive) by doppvolia - I think this is a cool AMV, Joseph's theme is my favourite from the six JoJo's theme.

[X] Joseph Joestar - When you were young [AMV] by Blue Death - This shows actually that Joseph wasn't just a goofy character, he too went through a lot. This is just... sad. I cried an awfully lot because of this. The parallel between Ceazar and Polnareff and then Kakyoin 😭

[X] Jotaro Kujo - Monster AMV by Blue - This Skillet song fits perfectly to Jotaro. He wanted to stay in the prison because he thought he was posessed and would hurt people he loved. He thought about the manifestation of his own soul as an evil spirit.

[X] Stardust Crusaders - Everytime we touch [AMV] by Blue Death - I never expected this song for a non romantic AMV but here it is. And it actually made me cry.

[X] Diamond Is Unbreakable - Rollercoaster [AMV] by Blue Death - It's so nostalgic and emotional, just like DiU is for me. I love how it captures the beautiful friendship between Josuke and Okuyasu! The part when the refrain starts for the last time

[X] Turn Up the Crazy Diamond - [ Panic! At The Disco & JJBA] AMV by D. Nubs - This is actually great how the whole video is synced to Victorious. The song references Killer Queen a lot, and it's about getting away with murder, which is basically Kira.

it doesn’t. make a whole lotta sense in some ways since neil doesn’t speak spanish and nova does, but?? i was listening to asilos magdalena and fuckin. the frailness is just SO HIM...... and then ofc he’s a Pure Soprano so cedric’s range is absolutely perfect for him, like i was hesitant cus neil’s voice isn’t powerful in the slightest but the fact that cedric gets kinda nasally and sounds a bit strained when he gets louder,,, idk just shit like cicatriz is TOO PERFECT for neil hhgghghghhh

Oh dear, I think I've answered for the only characters who really have well established orientations/identities, since I basically answered for Savler along with Jezari.

Most of my characters fall into one of two categories: this person is focused on something else, so they're probably somewhere on the aro and/or ace end of things (Novani, Lysara, maybe Pheodra (though she's something of a special case, since she explicitly sets aside her own desires to serve the Empire)) or this person was attracted to this other person, therefore they're straight or bi...or possibly demi (Tevin, Daska, Ianya...and Deell, for that matter ).

And then there are a few characters whose orientations I really haven't considered (Aril'ree, Lord Dralick).

Okay, maybe I've willfully ignored the question of Dralick's orientation since that has the potential to add extra creepy vibes to his villain relationship with Kyrian. (Extra creepy vibes that might be there a little bit anyway.)

Hem, anyway, back to ignoring that.

Character orientations have a bad habit of only coming up when they're somehow relevant to the story or the character. Or just only come up with very much main characters. Or something.

Which isn't very satisfying, I know.

Once established, I do, just as I note anything else I establish about them. Now, granted, that might start with something like "some flavor of [orientation]" and get more specific as I work out what that flavor is.

Of course, with very few exceptions, they all start out unspecified because I frequently forget to think about their orientation. I don’t even necessarily think of their gender identity beyond what they’re presenting as. I suspect it has something to do with having [file not found] for my own identity. I almost always have the sexuality equivalent and occasionally the gender equivalent of that tumblr story about the blind professor who forgot to turn on the light for his sighted student to take a test in his office, except instead of “I forgot! You can see!” it’s “I forgot! You’re supposed to have a sexuality!”

Alright lore time

Stuff under cut cause it's gonna be a lot

First of all have a map I drew of the place

Ill go through and talk about each country in some detail.

First up, Asandy. Asandy is a very industrial and mercantile nation, and as they control the entire east coast, the nation is vastly rich. Asandy is very powerful militarily, because they have so much money to invest into superior resources and can also buy off the most powerful magicians. The official language there is Vwagra, although Asandian Vwagra is different from the normal Vwagra, so some consider the Asandian variation an entirely separate language.

Speaking of Vwagra, the language originates in Vwagru. Vwagru used to be a large power that controlled about half the east coast, but Asandy took that land which is why Asandy speaks Vwagra. As for the modern country, it's pretty insignificant and is mostly a farming kingdom that doesn't get involved with other countries. There is a revolutionary faction that wants to restore the country to its former glory, but this group is small and has little power.

South of Vwagru is the kingdom of Sl (that's an l, not an i, pronounced like sul). Sl is a farming kingdom that mainly trades with Asandy, and is practically a vassal state for the coastal nation, and in return for new tech and protection they give most of their excess crops to Asandy. They also speak Indianian Vwagra

Even further south, you encounter Ydrv, (pronounced yuh-durv) which is a former trading nation that lost its coast to Asandy about 80 years ago. Since then, the nation has existed in an odd state, not strong enough to challenge Asandy but enough to remain it's own nation. They speak Ydrvi, which is somewhat close to Vwagra but has changed a lot over time.

Next up is Mikan. Mikan is on a piece of land with a lot of natural resources including valuable metals and other things. Mikan has a strong military to defend the land, but rarely attacks others unless there is almost no risk. Mikan speaks the language Mikan, which is roots from Vwagra but has evolved for much longer than Ydrvi, and would be nearly unrecognizable to someone who knows only modern Vwagra.

Then there's Mria. About 100 years ago, a series of 3 weak kings began weakening the strength of the nation, and the 5 dukes of Mria began gaining more power in their own province, and the provinces began feeling more separate from one another. This eventually led to a collapse of Central power, and upon the death of the last king, all 5 dukes declared themselves the King of Mria. They fought briefly, but ultimately split into 5 separate nations. All of them demand they are the true Mria and should be called as such. Overall, all Mrias are pretty weak militarily, mostly because of frequent territory disputes and small battles. All Mrias speak Mrian, but there are many dialects of the language.

Just to the east is Glasor. Glasor is a fairly standard kingdom, with a powerful military. Glasor frequently fights with Naashwa and the Voln empire. Honestly not too much to say about these guys. They speak Glasori, a language similar to Mrian but merged with eastern languages. 

next up is Naashwa. Naashwa is actually not one nation but roughly 11 smaller kingdoms that all joined together in the Naashwa alliance hundreds of years ago. since then, the countries have grown closer and the Naashwa alliance has grown from just a military alliance to essentially one large country. they speak Naashwa, which is actually an engineered language for the purpose of being a universal language among the kingdoms of Naashwa. Naashwa frequently fights with Voln and Glasor. 

finally, in the south, there is the Voln Empire. The Voln empire is another large military power, frequently fighting with Glasor and Naashwa. They speak Novani, which is the language of a previous empire that fell and was replaced by the early Voln empire. 

but what are they all fighting over? well, a lot of it is the territory of Mu. Mu is right in the middle of the three military powers, and is fought over because of its Enchanted Forest in the middle. Mu is inhabited and protected by the Druids, a race of magical beings who highly value nature and the magical forest of Mu. currently, Mu is an independent territory, as the Druids have managed to keep the hostile empires at bay. 

on the east of Naashwa are Kiez and Filo, two small kingdoms who used to be part of Naashwa, but the recent kings became unhappy with the state of Naashwa and the other kings, and decided to leave the alliance. This has left many uncertain about the future of Naashwa, and some think the alliance is becoming too weak and could collapse any time. Kiez and Filo are otherwise insignificant, although they are prepared in case Naashwa tries to take the territory by force. 

if we head north of the Karzorag (I think I can read my own handwriting) we encounter the Northern City-States. For a long time, the Northern Cities fought one another for power and didn’t get along, but after an attempted invasion by Naashwa, they banded together to repel it. they found they didn’t actually hate each other thaaaaat much and so decided to work together and overall became much stronger, and now nobody dares invade. the Mountain pass is already dangerous enough, and the Northern City-states have quite the army ready for whatever makes it out. 

Last, but not least, is Zjoorn. Zjoorn is a mysterious nation, said to be made up of cult-like people with access to dark magic. nobody really knows for sure what they do up there. what they do know is that whenever people from Zjoorn do show up, it’s usually because something important is going to happen.
