Tysm for asking about my girls! I'm going to do this for Jamila and Viola, Saoirse and Zoe, and Felicity and Shiloh. Jamila and Viola are both surgeons - Jamila's a plastic surgeon, and Viola's a trauma surgeon. Saoirse is a licensed esthetician and massage therapist and plays bass guitar in fables. Zoe is a hair stylist, and is a vocalist (and occasional strings player) in fables. Shiloh is a wedding and event planner, and Felicity owns a really cute little sweets & gelato shop in Maplewood, a small town right outside of New Islington. (Also tysm for your lovely prompt a few days ago! I love it and am really looking forward to working on it once I've finished this other ficlet I've got in progress.) Cut because this got really long.

💝 - What gestures do they really appreciate? How do you get on their good side?

Saoirse: Not to use love language terminology, but Saoirse really appreciates little acts of service, whether in romantic or platonic relationships. She loves it when people do little things for her without her having to ask. If Zoe takes her car out to gas it up and get it washed for her? Fantastic. Someone grabbing her water bottle to refill it for her while they're up getting themselves something? Amazing. She comes home late after a really long shift to a clean house and dinner made even though it was supposed to be her night to cook? The best. Getting a bit of a shoulder and temple massage from Zoe after work without having to give her puppy dog eyes? Incredible. A friend giving her their hoodie because she looks cold? She melts. She just really loves it when someone takes a responsibility off of her shoulders - could she do all of this herself? Yes, easily. But not having to is SO nice.

Zoe: Zoe's absolute favorite thing is probably being given small, unexpected gifts that make it clear that the giver really gets her and knows her well. They don't have to be big or expensive at all (frankly, she prefers it if they're not) but things like a hot cocoa bomb Saoirse grabbed for her at the store because she knows Zoe loves chocolate and cute things or a new pair of fuzzy socks because it's getting cold out and Zoe always has ice blocks for feet? Jasper (one of her work friends) bringing her her favorite tea latte when he runs out to get himself one without asking her if she wants one? A new mug because she broke hers, or a pretty postcard for her to put up at her station at the salon? Knowing someone was thinking of her like that makes her all warm and fuzzy inside.

Viola loves to be spoiled and surprised by the people who love her. She loves it when Jamila plans fancy date nights for the two of them (Jamila always goes *way* overboard, right down to picking out Viola's outfit for the night and often buying her a new dress or something), loves surprise fancy spa trips for a massage and facial, loves fancy gifts, loves it when her brother gifts her a gorgeous new bag after she gives him a long weekend break from his toddler who is very much in the throes of the terrible-twos. She is definitely a champagne tastes kind of girl, and thankfully she and her wife have the budget to match that.

Jamila loves praise and compliments more than pretty much anything else in the world. Yes, she is gorgeous. Yes, she is a brilliant surgeon. Yes, her sutures are utter perfection. Yes, that outfit is fabulous and suits her perfectly. Yes, she is the best wife ever. The meal she cooked for her and Viola after a long shift is amazing. She's the best sister-in-law ever and is just SO good with her baby niece. She knows all of this but she craves hearing it from other people at all times and will essentially purr like a very satisfied cat when it happens. Viola always makes sure to compliment her and praise her, even leaves her little notes to find which Jamila absolutely adores.

Shiloh is a very tactile person and loves physical touch more than anything else. She loves having her hair played with or braided, long, soft hugs, foot rubs (she REALLY loves a good foot rub), shoulder and back massages, snuggling on the couch with her girl, a friend rubbing her arm or squeezing her shoulder encouragingly when she's stressed, soft forehead kisses... she gets touch-starved easily and loves having her physical affection bank refreshed and poured into.

Felicity's favorite gestures are anything to do with feeding her. While she does actually enjoy cooking, it feels like SO much work a lot of the time and she'd rather just cry while she poured herself a bowl of cereal or ate shredded cheese right out of the bag bathed in the light of the fridge. Having someone cook for her or bring her a snack or order delivery for lunch for her while she's at work makes her feel all warm and fuzzy and cared for, whether it's Shiloh having her favorite comfort meal waiting after a really long day or her sister, Verity, dropping by the shop with a snack for her. The way to her heart is through her stomach.

☕ - Coffee or tea?

Viola is an "inject caffeine straight into my veins" kind of girl. She'll do cold brew with a couple of espresso shots on top, black coffee, quad shots, iced Americanos (no water, just ice to dilute it)... every great once in a while she'll indulge in a slightly sweet seasonal latte around the holidays but that's pretty rare and she couldn't have anything sweet be her every day drink.

Jamila, on the other hand, is really sensitive to the taste of bitter so while she likes coffee, she needs it to be sweet enough to cover the taste. She's not a big fan of mochas, but loves anything vanilla, caramel or hazelnut. She also loves tea, but mostly herbals and white teas because of the bitterness issue. Her favorite way to relax after a shift is with a mug of her favorite mint and rose white tea and a book in front of the fire.

Saoirse prefers tea and tea lattes (especially green teas or matcha lattes, although she'll never say no to herbals, chai, rooibos or other black teas), she really isn't a fan of coffee although she'll begrudgingly drink it if she's really dragging and just can't wake up or is super fatigued. Zoe knows something's up with her if she's willingly drinking coffee.

Zoe loves coffee, but she prefers it sweet (and preferably iced and blended and topped with whipped cream, unless it's really cold out). She's also a big fan of fancy hot cocoa - at least partly because she was never allowed it growing up and she's making up for lost time.

Felicity's a coffee person, but goes back and forth on whether or not she wants it sweet or not. It really just depends on the day. More often than not she prefers just a basic, unflavored latte but sometimes she'll go nuts and make herself something fancier.

Shiloh would rather have soda or an energy drink most days. She's not opposed to coffee or tea, although neither of them are daily drinks for her. She knows energy drinks really aren't great for her, but also she doesn't care. They work and that's what matters to her - girl is *all* about efficiency.

💀 - How do they feel about horror movies?

Viola loves horror movies, but they rarely scare her. She finds most of them funny, just... ridiculous and overwrought. Her job's kind of desensitized her to gore and blood, and she just doesn't believe in anything supernatural so none of it's real to her. She just finds them entertaining.

Jamila is scared of horror movies, but she'll watch them (the non-gory ones at least, she's not a fan of it or anything with torture) with Viola, usually peeking out from behind her hands while she watches with her wife all snuggled up next to her. Every time she jumps, Viola hugs her a bit tighter.

Saoirse and Zoe both like them, but only around Halloween. October is horror movie month, and neither of them will watch them the rest of the year. It's purely a "get in the mood for spooky season" thing for them, often while they're carving pumpkins or working on costumes. Zoe loves Halloween and goes all out for it, so they have to set the right vibe for it.

Felicity will not watch horror movies. She doesn't like them at all, they really scare her (she was raised really religious and while she's not any longer and has deconstructed, there's still a lot of horror movie content that revolves around things she was taught were "evil" and they still distress her even though she doesn't really believe in them) and it's just not something she's willing to compromise on.

Shiloh's not a big fan of them in general, but she's got a couple that she likes and will watch around Halloween but only if Felicity's out of the house doing something else. She doesn't want to risk her girl walking in on her watching one of them since she knows how much Felicity hates them.

💖 - How and how often do they try to impress their partner(s)? How and how often do their partner(s) impress them?

Okay, so this question is a bit hard to answer because I feel like most of my OCs don't really try to impress their partners although they might accomplish it unintentionally sometimes. They just... treat their partners really well and do things they know their partners like because they love them, but there's no real intent to impress if that makes sense? They just love their girls a lot and want them to be happy so they do things accordingly.

The only one I feel who really makes an effort to impress her girlfriend is Zoe and, frankly, a lot of that is a trauma response. She spent so much of her life not getting any recognition for the things she did and having her efforts actively diminished that she has a heightened need to be praised and recognized and to do things that get other people's attention. It's something she's working on in therapy, not desperately craving other people's affirmations as much and she's getting better about it.

🍓 rowan’s favorite fruit is a plum! he’s very fond of fruits in general, but he grew up with several plum trees in his yard as a child, so plum season is his favorite. he also likes any desserts made with them!

🍓he’s always loved painting— his works tend to be a little bit more abstract, but often focusing on the ocean and related subjects. as for the paints themselves, his favorite are acrylics. and in his our life ‘verse, rowan runs a business selling jewelry made from seashells and sea glass.

🍓 leaving the house in sweatpants or a sweatshirt would be zoe’s worst nightmare. she’s intensely focused on her appearance and how she portrays herself, and is determined to be never seen by strangers when she’s not “put together”— if you ever get to see her in pajamas or sans makeup, that’s a major sign of trust from her!

🍓 zoe doesn’t smoke or anything of that nature, but she always keeps a pack of chewing gum with her. her favorite flavor is bubblegum!

Hi, Lori! I'm doing well, and I hope so are you! Thanks for the ask and sorry they got so big, but they were great questions and just inspired me to think about Zoe and Elizabeth's backgrounds and I'll share some of those with you bellow the cut

For Zoe:

🍒 What kind of things do they expect from their relationships? Does this differ between platonic relationships and romantic ones? Is your OC “demanding” or a door mat? What kinds of things do people expect from them in a relationship?

Zoe expects respect from any relationship, either platonic or romantic. That's the first thing. She can be very pragmatic. In her many conversations with her mother at the hospital, when she still didn't know she was dying, she heard her talk greatly about respect and to be proud of who she was and live her best life and those words still live in her mind... She always remembers when her mother quoted Frida Khalo's words from one of the inspirational books lying on the nightstand by the bed: "to not overstay where you can't love." She takes that to heart. Even with her father. Romantic relationships were not her main goal growing up, while classmates at the fancy school were worried about clothes for dates and if or if not X or Y would invite them for the dances, she was studying; besides, her father was overbearing and forbade her from dating until she was fifteen, but she actually didn't mind that, she didn't feel ready to date anyway and was too focused on getting into a great college to waste time with boys - that's what she normally said, even if there was a little part of her that was in fact afraid to be rejected by the people at the school who didn't see her as equal and mocked her hair and clothes, being one of the only black people in the school who were not working there. Logan was her first kiss, but Colt was actually the first romantic relationship ever. Zoe is not a door mat. Nothing between them would work if she was. She is headstrong and knows what she wants, and he respects that; she expects to be treated with respect and love; and if she can't find it in that relationship, either she is not loved or isn't in love, she won't linger. Not because she can't feel attached to other people, but because she needs to find a sense of belonging and mutual affection, she has it with Riya, even if they are completely different in so many aspects, they can set boundaries and support and love each other.

🍑 Where is your OC’s favourite place to relax or calm down? Recount a story of their time spent in this place! What makes it so special to them?

For a long time, it used to be the beach. Her earliest memories are going to the beach with her family. Her father would drive and take them there, her mother would be excited and singing along with the radio - maybe the back of the car in those days was one of this special places - and even when she got older and became a teenager, she would enjoy going with them. She learned from her mother how to swing, and she loved floating in the sea and squinting her eyes to look at the sky and the sun, watching the clouds passing overhead. After her mother got sick and died, the school library became her refuge, not only to study even harder to get to the future she envisions. Every time things got awful at that school and classmates would bully her, instead of fighting back risking her scholarship and future, she would go there, pick a random book - Lord of The Rings was the first she read in a moment like that, it was just lying there on the return kart, and it was so huge, it would be enough for her to calm herself down and wait until her father would go to work and she wouldn't have to explain why her eyes were puffy from crying. And it worked. She came for more and more. Picking books at random from the shelves, some were good, some were not, but in the end it didn't really matter.

Is there anywhere your OC hates to go to? Anywhere that stresses them out or have negative memories of?

The hospital. Any hospital. The smells, the sounds, the memories, it all triggers her. She even recoils when she sees ambulances in the streets. The first time she was taken to a hospital after her mother passed made her cry. She was twelve and fell down at the park while playing with friends, and Riya's mother took her there. A gentle nurse tried to calm her down, even if he didn't understand what was going on and that the sobbing girl was there only to get some stitches on her chin. He would say it was not that bad, and asked if she was afraid of it leaving a scar... Zoe couldn't talk and just shook her head, when her father got there, he understood it all, and hugged her.

2. Elizabeth

😊 What can make your OC smile even when they’re feeling down? What cheers them up and makes everything feel better for them? Is your OC genrally a happy person and do they enjoy making others smile?

Sunny days make her smile. Elizabeth loves the sun, and the beach was the place she knew she could go by herself to be better, having her feet touch the sand and diving in the cold waters was usually a good medicine to bad days. But other than that, I think going for rides with her bike and having a good company, either to have some icecream or just talk nonsense to take her mind away from what's making her sad could do her good too.

Is she a happy person? That's not an easy question to her. Sometimes she thinks she is, others she thinks she's not and that she's a downer, but people who knows her don't see it that way. They know that sometimes she'll get sad - like everybody does - but most of the time she makes lovely company and they love her sense of humor, when she's relaxed. The desire to please people is always there, but she particularly likes making people smile, either by acknowledging they need a friend and trying to cheer them up or sending them memes she's sure they'll think are funny.

What about your OC makes others happy? Depending on who you ask that question, the answer can vary greatly. To her father, for instance, seeing her happy is enough to make him happy. But he also enjoys talking to her, listening to her speak about what she's passionate about. If you ask Hamid, he'll have a dozen items list for you, from the way it's so easy to talk to her, how she listens to him and sees him as a person, how funny she can be - he teases her, but he loves her memes, even the Brazilian ones she has to explain - and when she smiles, he thinks it brightens the whole world, so he's got plenty of reasons.

💧 What is the earliest memory your OC can recall?

Elizabeth's earliest memories can not be memories at all, and are probably due to all the stories and pictures she's seen of her parents at their first home, and them walking at the beach... So, the first one she really knows is her own memory is from their first home at Rio, she remembers lying with her mother in her bed and having her stroke her hair and sing her to sleep. There was also a park they used to go, and she remembers the swings fondly.

Do they know what their first words were or remember where they took their first steps?

Her mother said her first words were "Oi" (the equivalent to Hi in Portuguese), "ma" to call her mother and a few other random words with the first syllables she could pronounce. Her first steps were taken in the flat they lived for a while on their own. There's no video of the first time she walked, but her mother was able to record the second time she pulled herself up holding onto the couch and took some resolute steps to reach her favorite toy at the time - a stuffed lion that belonged to her mother.

Do they have any mementos of their childhood they’ve kept such as a stuffed toy or tiny baby clothes?

Her mother kept all sorts of things, from the first clothes she worn (like the onesie she worn in the maternity hospital, the white robe when she was baptized, the first tiny sneakers and bikini) to some of the favorite toys, like this one doll her father gave her and she loved because it came from him. The one thing she kept from when she was little and took with her to London were the pictures, specially an album her mother collected from her baby pictures.

Thank you soooo much for asking about my girls! It's been so nice to get a chance to work on them a bit more, these questions really helped! Sorry it got so long, cut to save your dash!

✈️ AIRPLANE — does your oc like traveling, or do they consider themselves a more homey person?

All four of them enjoy traveling, but to different extents and in different ways.

Zoe is probably the most passionate and in love with traveling out of all of my girls, She grew up in a very restrictive, very controlling religious family (think a religion that is commonly considered a cult) with a mother who ruled over everyone with an iron fist. For most of her life, her life consisted of: school, bible study, youth group, church, prayer and that was it. No friends, no parties, if she ever got to go on a trip it was a mission trip. Being able to travel represents all of the freedom she was denied and she would do it constantly if it were up to her. She's grown to love being home with her girlfriend and their friends, and she does get to travel a ton when she's on tour with fables so she's happy to compromise and not run off to backpack around the world for a year at a time but that would probably be her dream.

Saoirse likes traveling a lot, but she needs some time to unwind at home and center herself after a trip. She's definitely not ready to immediately get up and go right after they've gotten back like Zoe is (and backpacking around the world without getting to come home, see family and friends and relax for a bit sounds like hell to her). She loves getting to travel when fables tours, and loves her trips with her girlfriend but home is such a safe, comfortable, happy place for her and she treasures that as well.

Mae really enjoys traveling but she tends to prefer closer destinations, especially ones they can drive to or take the train to. She loves a good road trip, and isn't as big of a fan of planes generally. She's more willing to do longer, farther away trips when it's just her and Lucy - once they have their baby, they put a moratorium on long plane trips for a while because the idea of dragging a baby/toddler onto a plane with them sounds like hell to Mae.

Lucy loves traveling, especially to exotic locations where she can explore new cities and immerse herself in the local culture although she's really grown to love a good road trip with her wife as well. She just really loves new experiences, she never wants to go to the same place twice - that's boring. She'd be perfectly happy to travel with their baby, but she's happy to acquiesce to her wife and not put the family through that until they're past the baby and toddler stage. She does like being home as well, she couldn't travel all the time... she'd miss her little brother too much.

🌴 PALM TREE — does your oc have a green thumb? do they enjoy gardening?

Saoirse used to have a black thumb and would kill every plant she ever touched, but then Julian gave her a cutting of one of his favorite plants and she couldn't let her best friend since middle school (if not earlier) down so she had to learn how to care for it and make sure it thrived. He helps her learn how to propagate and eventually repot it (she covered the pot in googly eyes), and is always up to help her troubleshoot if her plant isn't looking its best or growing well.

Zoe is very much not a plant person. She's not great at caring for them (she's accidentally killed multiple pots of basil) and just isn't especially interested in learning how to beyond being able to keep Saoirse's plant alive if she can't for whatever reason or is out of town, because she knows how important it is to Saoirse and would never want to let her girlfriend down.

Lucy loves gardening and has such a green thumb. She dreams of retiring someplace in the countryside where she can have a big plot to grow flower and vegetables and herbs on, but until then she makes do with the space she has and mostly sticks to houseplants and herbs, with a couple of raised beds for flowers in the very small backyard of their brownstone. Her favorite thing to do on mornings where she's not scheduled to work is to wake up late, then spend a few hours tending to her plants with a cup of coffee while Mae reads on the patio.

Mae can keep plants alive (and will help Lucy out if she needs it), but she's really not interested in gardening or keeping house plants. She's happy to listen to her wife geek out about it and talk about her babies, but she doesn't want to do it herself. It's just not a hobby she enjoys very much - she doesn't like getting dirty, doesn't like weeding, doesn't like having to do manual labor outside when it's hot. It's just not her thing.

💛 YELLOW HEART — how many languages does your oc speak? what language(s) are they learning, if any?

Lucy's native language is English, but she also speaks Spanish. If we're going based on the CEFR scale, she's at the very high B2, low C1 level. She's not going to be mistaken for a native speaker, but if she had a patient at work who only spoke Spanish, she would not need a translator. She's working on improving her Spanish with a private tutor and a group of native speakers she practices immersion with, but is also working on learning some ASL so she can communicate more easily with Mae's sister when they all spend time together.

Mae's native language is English, and she's fluent in ASL. Her sister is Deaf and the whole family learned so they could communicate with her. Mae often ended up being with her sister's interpreter with people outside of the family, so she got really good at it. She's also learning some Spanish with her wife. She's likely never going to be fluent, but she's getting close to conversational in it and would like to be able to use it at a low level professionally in the future.

Zoe only speaks English, but she's really interested in languages and is trying to learn a few at the same time: German, French, Italian and Japanese. Is it the best idea to try to learn four languages at once? Probably not. Does she care? Absolutely not. She's really not shooting for fluency at this point, she's just having fun exploring a new passion.

Saoirse grew up bilingual, speaking English and Italian (one of her father's side of the family is Italian and when she was younger her grandparents who only spoke Italian lived with her family). She lost quite a bit of her Italian when they moved away and she wasn't using it on a daily basis, but decided to pick it up again as an adult. At this point she's probably in between B1 and B2, but intends to get back to full proficiency with it. She's also picked up a little bit of French because Julian's fluent in it, and is learning more bit by bit. She's not super serious about it, but would like to become fully conversational.

🤩 FACE WITH STARRY EYES — is your oc a planner, or are they more spontaneous in their actions?

Zoe is 100% spontaneous and chaotic; She does not have a planning bone in her entire body. She can force herself to sit down and make actual plans if absolutely necessary, but she's gong to hate every single second of it.

Saoirse's the planner in their relationship. She doesn't insist on everything being planned, and is pretty easily able to be spontaneous when it makes sense without being anxious about it but someone has to keep both of them alive and functioning and it's not going to be Zoe.

Mae and Lucy are both more on the planner side of things but Mae's able to be spontaneous and doesn't mind not knowing what's going to happen sometimes, and Lucy's not. She gets a bit anxious when she doesn't know what the plan is or when they're trying to play something by ear. She's so much more comfortable not leaving things up to chance.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 FAMILY WITH MOTHER, FATHER, SON AND DAUGHTER — how many people are in your oc's immediate family? how many people are in your oc's extended family? do they have aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, etc? who in their family are they closest with? are they close with their birth family, or do they have a found family?

Zoe's immediate biofamily consists of her, an older brother, an older and a younger sister, her mother and her father. She has an aunt and an uncle on her mother's side, and two aunts on her father's side, as well as about 10 cousins. Three of her grandparents have passed, but one is still alive. She's really... not in contact with any of her biofamily except for her older brother because they're all still part of the cult. She and her older brother are the only ones who've gotten out, and she's so close to him. The rest of them don't even know where she lives and haven't since she escaped after she graduated from high school. Her family is pretty much all found family - she has Saoirse's parents, Clare and Ana (Julian's aunts), the entire band and their partners, and a few of the other stylists she works with but especially Jasper and Marley.

Saoirse has a tiny biofamily but they're all incredibly close, emotionally if not geographically. It's her and her dads, her grandparents, an aunt on one side and an uncle on the other side and a single cousin who's the daughter of her aunt. They didn't live in the same place growing up, but Saoirse's always been really close to her cousin. They'd see each other at occasional family events and were always on messenger and texting each other growing up. Saoirse considers Julian's aunts, Clare and Ana, like her bonus moms. She's known them since she was a young teenager and is so close to them, especially Clare. She considers the rest of the band her found family as well, but she's especially tight with Lachlan and Avery.

Mae's immediate family consists of her, her parents, her younger sister, and an older and younger brother. She's got a big extended family, with multiple aunts and uncles on both sides, and what feels like countless cousins. They're all pretty close (except for a couple of them who are just... weird but doesn't that happen in every family) and throw big family events and reunions every year. Besides her wife and her brother-in-law, she doesn't really consider herself as having a found family. Lots of very close, wonderful friends she'd do nearly anything for? Absolutely. But not quite family. Her biofamily is her family.

Lucy's immediate family is her, her mom and dad and her little brother, Elijah. She's so close to Elijah and always has been - she was 12 when he was born and immediately decided he was her baby which was good because their parents were really hands off and uninvolved with him. Sometimes she feels more like his mom than his sister, but they do have a really close, respectful adult relationship. She's not close with her parents at all, because they've always treated her as the golden child compared to her brother and she hates it so much. They're barely involved in her life and she's always tempted to cut them out entirely. She's got two aunts and an uncle (as well as their spouses), and five cousins but she's really not close to any of them. They've haven't really stayed in touch for over a decade but they all think it's appropriate to text her to demand medical advice and she's just SO not here for it. As far as she's concerned, they're strangers and this is unethical. She is absolutely a found family and hers is: Elijah, Alexei, Mae's family (especially Mae's mom and sister), and some of her hospital colleagues (Rian and Brennan by extension, Viola and Sophie especially).

ive had a character who's been designless for a long time and i finally gave her a design. her name's zoe. zoe ellison. character on the right. she's trans. when i finally figured out what i wanted her to look like i went "oh. lol. she kinda reminds me of susan taxpayer" and so naturally uhhhh susan taxpayer is zoe's gender envy and thats why she has taxpayer vibes (to me).
