Thanks to artfight, I’ve finally finished a detailed, official dbhc cub reference! :D
(I’ve put his Artifight description below the cut, which has a more detailed explanation of his timeline, lore, and aesthetics! >:3)
-ˋˏ ༻ ❁ OVERVIEW ❁ ༺ ˎˊ-
Name: C.B.F.N.4000 (Cub)
Pronouns: He/Him
Species: Android
Height: 5’9’’
Associated Visual Themes: vex, ghosts, explosions, mischief, scientist aesthetic, potions, potionmaking, sleepy/tired aesthetic, conspiracies
-ˋˏ ༻ ❁ ABOUT ❁ ༺ ˎˊ-
CBFN4000 is an au version of MCYT Hermitcraft’s Cubfan, set in my DBHC (or Detroit Become Hermitcraft) AU! This au is inspired by the 2018 game Detroit Become Human, but not because it really has anything to do with DBH—I simply yoinked the android mechanics and incorporated them into the world of Hermitcraft. It began as a S8 au, and has roughly followed the hermitcraft timeline up to the present!
Cub was the last android made during Season 8. While many of the hermit androids were made at the beginning of season 8 and a few were made for season 9, Cub was finished and activated mid-late Season 8, around the time when Hermits started noticing the Big Moon. Cub’s model ended up being a sloppy experiment in deviation, as Doc suggested they try to transfer deviancy to an android upon activation to try and avoid traumatic situations that might cause an android to deviate violently or upsettingly, such as Etho’s, Tango’s, or Mumbo’s experiences. While this went relatively well initially, it clearly wasn’t very thoroughly thought out, as Xisuma (who is normally so adamant and detail-oriented when it comes to assuring the androids’ safety with experiments like this) wasn’t truly himself due to external manipulation and mostly left a relatively young-deviant Doc to carry out the project himself.
Cub, though adjusting to sentience rather well at first, very quickly became wrapped up in the Big Moon happenings on the server, new personality and inexperience to emotions like fear and ignorance completely overwhelming his young system. He became obsessive over the implications and consequences of the Season 8 Moon Apocalypse, joining the Mooners and spreading his conspiracy theories religiously throughout the server as he descended into madness. The insanity was like a virus to his programming, pervasive and all-engulfing, and Cub’s final attempt to free himself from the Moon’s impact with the Earth—to launch himself on a llama into space via potion-powered TNT(insane btw)— left his hands and feet singed and cracked to ruin.
The experiment, considered a horrific failure by a deeply shameful—and more awake—S9 Xisuma, left Doc and Xisuma with the decision to reset him for the new season, and they ended up pairing him with a hermit like they had done with the other androids until they had found deviancy enough to pursue their own projects. So, at the start of season 9 and fresh after a reset, Cub was paired with Scar. Naturally, because Scar is… Scar, Cub deviated almost instantly after being given to him, and very quickly adopted the iconic lazy, stoic, amused attributes normally associated with Cubfan. Scar’s tendency towards mischief and general shenanigans grew instantly on Cub, and the two were an immediate inseparable pair. So much so that when Scar began rambling one day about his Season 5 Hermitcraft Shenanigans (where deals with the Vex may or may not have been involved), Cub immediately stated he was interested in being in on it. Whatever “it” means. It’s unclear if Cub also made a deal with the vex or became connected to them in some other way, but… well, he got Doc’s help to trick out his eyes, hair, and back to best fit the part. Scar is very jealous that he can't magically make himself have the same features to match.
Cub is closest with Scar, but he gets along just as well with any of the other hermits! He’s close with Jevin and many of the other redstoners like Etho and Doc, who are the other two androids I’ve put on artfight!
-ˋˏ ༻ ❁ EXTRAS ❁ ༺ ˎˊ-
Cub's eyes can light up in the dark, and he’s the only android who has edited his programming so that the default state of his LED is white, not blue. It still will go yellow and red if his processors are working particularly hard, but he’s replaced the blue setting on his LED with white to better match the Vex vibe. Cub has all of the vibes of a fae. If that’s anything <3

i keep coming back to 'i was a functioning alcoholic til nobody noticed my new aesthetic' because i do distinctly remember conversations about how taylor seemed to be drinking a lot more and getting drunk at like every awards show she went to. and those conversations were coming from a place of concern and of hoping that she was alright and that this wasn't a problem.
so to then say 'ugh i can't believe no one noticed this problem i had' when i know that people definitely did, and on the same album say that fans who are genuinely concerned about a new relationship that you are in are just 'bitching and moaning'? what do you want from them? you're talking about so many people who do at least believe that they are coming from a place of care and concern, and you are totally dismissing them on both ends of a scale!
not to mention that her implying that since nobody (???) was noticing her ~aesthetic~ drinking problem she just stopped having it is a bit of a kick in the teeth to people who do have drinking problems and can't just stop having them, since that's not how it fucking works.

One of the things that’s so interesting and off putting about Sol’s little “I’m gonna talk and you’re going to listen” thing with Mae is that it has nothing to do with what she wants or needs and everything to do with what he wants and needs. Like, he claims to care for her, but he’s been consumed by guilt for whatever happened for sixteen years and he desperately wants to get that weight off his chest and it’s that that’s his priority in this moment. It’s crushing him, this weight, and with every episode we’ve seen him get more heavy with it and more and more frantic and desperate as he comes to terms with the fact he’ll have to face the past, putting the lie to “I’ve made peace with what happened on Brendok” because he clearly hasn’t. And now he’s got Mae, the living representation and embodiment of everything he’s carrying, and he wants to offload. And while Mae is a loose cannon and he doesn’t trust her not to attack him, having her tied down also means she can’t lash out or physically interrupt him or leave. She can’t have any of the reactions she might be entitled to depending on what he’ll tell her. It doesn’t feel like a means to protect her or even himself while he gently explains the past in a way that will heal her, no, it has nothing to do with making her feel better anymore, it feels more like he’s snapped and he can’t carry this burden anymore and he will force her to listen if he has to if it’ll only get the crushing weight of what he did off his chest. And that’s. kinda dark

I'm not a big fan of the interpretation that hinako had no idea about what was going on behind the scenes of kazui's stage, or atleast the feeling I get from how some people talk about her like she was completely naive or in the dark
I mean, half shows their relationship straining quite clearly. they're shown on opposite sides of the room, not even facing each other. I feel like any partner would start to wonder and have doubts about why things aren't the same as they used to be, why their love isn't spending as much time with them anymore and starting to pick up habits associated with Drowning One's Sorrows in (drinking and smoking)
No, I think she most definitely had her doubts. I think she brushed these aside, justifying them with the whole "he would never" shebang, I mean kazui was the one who asked her out in the first place so surely not? Right?
I think it makes her reaction contextualised a lot more, and it makes more sense to me.
This isn't the face of just someone realising their partner has never romantically loved them, it's also the face of someone whose deepest worries, that they brushed away because they trusted their partner, being proven right.

Christ, there's still a week until the new season starts, and I am already so, so tired. I think I am officially too old for discourse.
Like, I love this fandom. I really do. But I think we need to collectively step back and take a deep breath.
In every single interview I've watched, Ralph has seemed genuinely excited about his storyline this season. Do you really think he would be okay with them trampling all over Mr. Miyagi's legacy? He has always been insanely protective over the original movie as a whole, and that character in particular. Billy, too. They've always emphasized how important it was for them to honor both Mr. Miyagi and Pat Morita.
Look, I'm not saying there's no reason to worry. It's Cobra Kai, of course there is. They've made plenty of bad decisions that I strongly dislike. (Baby plot, anyone? Drunk uber-ing?) As a general rule of thumb, I keep my expectations low. Like, buried under the basement low. But I do have faith that both Ralph and Billy would draw the line if they really believed this storyline was disrespectful to Miyagi's character.
And Ralph certainly wouldn't be talking about how rewarding it was for him to play.
Also, not for nothing, but the title of that yahoo uk article that's going around was click bait. Not to defend Jon, Josh, and Hayden - god knows I have my own problems with them - but they never actually say it's 'important to tarnish Mr. Miyagi's legacy' in the interview.
What they do say is that Daniel has always put Mr. Miyagi on a pedestal, and that any tarnish whatsoever on his mentor/father-figure is going to shake his confidence and maybe change his perspective going forward.
They also say that while the things he learns don't necessarily sound good at first, he doesn't have the full story.
Maybe I'll be proven wrong but I really don't get the feeling that they're going for "Mr. Miyagi was secretly EVIL all along" or anything like that. More like Miyagi was a good man who had flaws like anyone else. And what made him great is that he didn't let those flaws or his anger or whatever mistakes he might've made in the past define him. Which, if well done (Yes, I know it's a big if) could be a really touching character arc for Daniel to have.
Because no one is perfect, and he's holding both himself and everyone else (along with Mr. Miyagi's memory) to an impossible standard.
And honestly, that would be a good lesson for a deeply flawed character like Johnny to learn, as well.

proper refs for my new r&m ocs :-) more info BELOW
morty v-37 - basically gets used as a human shield and then promptly left for dead by his previous rick(which is why hes got the scar and prosthetics), y-4441 finds him and fixes him up + erases his memories of the whole nearly dying thing. he’s pretty chillaxed and a bit more cynical than an average morty, more “rickish” i guess idk. tends to be skeptical, likes poking holes in rick’s arguments/inventions etc etc but like in a teasing way
rick y-4441 - very peppy, upbeat and emotional. he kind of reeaalllyyy dislikes the cfc and stays away from it as much as possible, especially after finding and unofficially adopting v-37. he’s not as tech savvy as most rick’s, his abilities are more akin to s1 rick’s skill level? as in, he lives off of scraps of materials and creative solutions, less god-like and more “old man in garage who happens to know physics and chemistry”. loves to ramble about basically anything and happily indulges in morty’s hypotheticals/questions whatever. EXCEPT! for why morty doesnt have his fingers he shuts that topic down immediately just does not want to deal with that can of worms at allll
