I never wrote descriptions as to why I like these pairings, but I made visuals, so that's good enough. XD
Enjoy some belated to Tumblr anyway, they were on time for Bluesky images of some shippings I like.
Ships in order are:
Tiziano/Sofia (Sofiano)
Bargello/Shelby (Barshel)
Vanessa/Shana (Shanessa)
Dorothea/Barrad (Barrathea)
Narr/W'ludai
Paula/Varet
Leon/Baltazar
Ulrica/Rembrandt
Erika/Mahrez
Elletrix/Leon (Elleon)
Wingate/Iris
Levan/Brigitte
Lionel/Merrit
Noelle/Miles
L'eeto/Kouren
Relisha/Sowan
Gohfeld/Ninalana
Mabel/Efrain
Erhardt/Olberic (Olberhardt)
Simeon/Ceraphina
Solon/Mendoza
Z'aanta/Hugo
I just really like these pairings, some more than others naturally, but they're all pretty great! I'm still working on my Valentines chibis throughout the month, so it's an excuse to draw all these shippings!
I miss octopath yapping with people so uh yknow what! We’re gonna play a game!!
Explain in the notes what y’all’s favorite ships are and why you like them!!!
Only rules are
1) do not explain why everyone should think your ship is canon, as that is not the point of this post 2) do not put any other ships down bc that is also not the point of this post 3) ALL games are included (yes including cotc) 4) ANY SHIPS ARE ALLOWED!!! GO NUTS!!!!

Orsterran Cuisines (from OT1 and CotC)
OK! Finally done! Since I’m attempting to write again - and my next writing project has a foodie theme - I’ve been checking all the NPC dialogue in Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent for mentions of cuisines, dishes, foods, rare ingredients, or anything connected to cooking. Some of the Memoirs mention food, too, so I included them as well.
It was quite fruitful, really! A lot of towns don’t make mention of food at all (Theatropolis, Rippletide, Berecain, Sufrataljah, Donescu, Clearbrook, Victors Hollow, Flamesgrace or Emberglow), but there are some really nice ones in various places, mostly in Valore and Grandport. I can only check from my current point in the story (which is up to date as I type this post), but I’ll be checking in future in case any more get added.
On to the list, then! I’m not used to Tumblr, so apologies if it’s not formatted correctly.
Atlasdam: Crimson Crab Pie (Capable Culinarian), and River Fish (Liquor-Loving Fisherman)
The Crimson Crab Pie also features in OT1, and is made from a Roc egg, Ambrosial Milk, and an Emperor Crab. “The rich and savoury taste of the crab melds perfectly with the thick, buttery piecrust! It’s wonderful piping hot, but i have no doubt it would be just as teasty served cold as well.”
Grandport: Stewed Fish with Quatrait (Mentioned in bio of Woman from Quaragosa) Quatrait features in the original Octopath Traveler as well: a sweet scented bloom from the southern lands that also works well as a means of seasoning food.
Also Grandport: Mossy Cave tortoise garden salad, Giant Sheep a la tomato stew, River Bean Vichyssoise, and White Grape Muffins, all mentioned by the Fastidious Housewife.
Shepherds Rock: Sheep’s milk cheese and grape wine (Jocular Soldier)
Sunshade: Cactus Cocktail (Tavern Patron Comparing Drinks, Working Dancer)
Valore: Raisins (Long-time Resident), Powder that “Tastes really good on chicken” (Powder Seller), Crushed Nuts (Ruffian Chef), and Rosso’s Favourite Powder “Valorian Mustard, and the Sunlands legendary Sufra Masala” (Rosso)
And finally I’cirlo: Alpaca dishes (Tavern Keeper)
There’s also a couple from the Memoirs: Steamed shellfish, using the leftover juice to make a soup (Trish and Barrad memoir)
Plounder Carpaccio, Saucy Shrimp, (Fish - Clearbrook’s Claim to Fame memoir)
Plounder: A fish mentioned in both OT1 and CotC, from the Riverlands (Memoirs, Kenneth’s traveler story from CotC, and from an NPC by the river in OT1). It appears to be a lot like salmon, and it’s highly recommended to use shrimp as bait when fishing for it.
Armor Eater Tomato Stew, Shaggy Spider Meat, (Yugo’s Gourmet Diary: I’cirlo)
So there we are! I know there’s more, and I’ll be adding to this list as I find it. Hopefully it’ll help anyone else with adding details to their fics, or just for appreciation of the depth of worldbuilding in CotC. At least by putting it here, I won’t be able to lose it when I’m looking for info when I’m writing!
*****Editing to add some contributions from @blazlngblade, after a quick collab over on Twitter. Thank you so much for the help! Since some of these aren’t in the Global version yet, I’ll edit this again to update it when necessary. :)
Ember Mushroom Pie: Crispy pie crust, snowy cream filling, ember mushrooms (Frostlands/Emberglow)
Rinyuu’s Stew: Wild boar meat marinated in alcohol, vegetable (Frostlands)
Rinyuu’s Cream Pie: Ember mushrooms (Frostlands)
Cave Mint Stuffed Chicken: (Frostlands/Flamesgrace. Lianna’s dish)
Shrimp Stock soup and anything with the Phantom Crab: (Trish’s dishes)
Herb roasted chicken stuffed with intestines: (Riverlands/Magg’s Tavern)
Magg’s Bean Soup: (Riverlands/Magg’s Tavern)
Magg’s Strawberry Tart - made with bright red wild strawberries (Riverlands/Magg’s Tavern)
Magg’s Rainbow Trout Carpaccio with shrimp sauce (Riverlands/Magg’s Tavern)
Crab shell seared with fat (Coastlands/Grandport Markets)
Seared Whirlpool Flounder (Coastlands/Grandport’s Tavern)
Herb Grilled Killer Chameleon (Cliftlands/Cragspear)
Sauteed Demon Goat (Highlands)
Unnamed Eastern Sweets (Mentioned in Sarisa’s Traveler’s Story)
Orsterran made Eastern Bento Box - Honeyed fish teriyaki with white rice, chicken fried tatsuta, stewed river beans.
Edit #2! Just scanned through all of @scholarlycait‘s Letters from a Cait Scholar for foodie mentions, per a wonderful idea from @legendaryandroid. I found four, so here they are! :)
Emberglow/Flamesgrace stews
Cave Mint tea
Reaper Crab Salad - a popular dish in the Coastlands
Cave Tortoise moss and embershroom stir fry - Frostlands Dish
Edit #3:
Mentioned by Bargello’s Crew:
Pasta with tomatoes, Rabbit Soup, and White Grape Juice
Valore (Hell):
Veal Saute (LeRuiz Chef)
Panini (Mighty Turilli)
Milkwine (Buttermilk) - from W’ludai’s Traveler Story.
Herbal Bread (Bowman in Shepherd’s Rock - from Dorothea’s Story) Apparently contains medicinal herbs in it.
Plum bread (Dorothea’s Traveller Story, Shepherds Rock)
Flying Fish Teriyaki, Marinated and deep-fried Cetus Maximus, stewed river beans in sweet sauce - Yugo’s Gourmet Diary - Theatropolis.
River Beans: The specific type is Phaseolus Lunatus - Lima beans! According to Isla in his letters, he once tried putting river beans and water into an empty bottle so he could try to grow more beans. However, since he lives in the underground archives, the seeds did sprout but got no further than that. He was hoping for an endless supply of snacks, but in cooking up the beansprouts he ended up with an amazing meal anyway!
Züsbaum, Per one of Isla’s letters, it grows in the Frostlands and its leaves have a sweet flavour. A tea made from them has a taste distinct from sugar. Many monsters love them, so picking the leaves is a monumental challenge, but many say it is worth the risk.
Herb Wine: a drink from the Frostlands - remember to drink in moderation, Isla says!
Berry pies: A favourite of Elrica’s. Also mentioned in Isla’s Letters. Isla says they’re the most famous treat in Cragspear, and that just about every household in the city has its own recipe. It was first introduced twenty years ago by a noble lady who came from Grandport to marry, and now every mother wants to pass down their own recipe to their children.
According to one of Isla’s Letters, the Giant Berry Pie Festival was held long, long ago in Grandport. Apparently it was held to make and serve Orsterra’s largest berry pie. Legend has it that the revellers were so busy eating the thick pie crust one year that no-one got to the berry filling, and there were no more berry pie festivals after that...
Snow Beets: From OT1, but from the Frostlands. Naturally sweet.
Stillsnow Snow Sugar: From the original OT, in the Sweet Tooth side story: “This fluffy snow-white additive is derived from the essence of beets and dissolves easily into mixtures. Even a single pinch is enough to impact a mellow, flavourful sweetness. Culinarians use it as a secret ingredient in a wide variety of foods.”
Embershroom cooking method: (From Isla’s letters) “In Emberglow, the city which glows like dying fire against the night, the people harvest embershrooms. The name comes not only from the place it’s found, but also the way the mushrooms are prepared - embershrooms are cooked by roasting them slowly over the embers of a bonfire. In snowy regions, it’s im-purr-tant not to waste a single spark.” Embershrooms can also be found just poking out of the snow, and according to Adelle, they smell wonderful.
Alpaca Cheese: from the memoir between Pia and Varkyn. From I’cirlo. It’s distinctive aroma can put some people off, but it does go well with wine.
Ketchup apparently exists in Orsterra, too. Isla mentions the condiment in one of his letters.
Catnip Juice. Another thing Isla mentions. Possibly a kind of wine for caits.
Alligator meat. Suggested by Kenneth as an ingredient to replace rabbit in Magg’s dishes. According to him it’s bursting with both flavour and nutrients, while according to Yugo it’s nice and lean, yet oozing with flavour.
Stuffed crab shells with fresh emperor crab, and flavoured with local gin. From Edea’s traveler story.
12 year old Valore Whisky. From Edea’s traveler story.
Chomper Bowls. Made with Chomper broth which gives it a delightful hint of sourness! (Which then turns out to be hallucinogenic!) Served in the Theatropolis Tavern. (Thanks to Omness for these finds!)
Dried Embershroom Soup. The signature soup from Dohra’s hometown in Adelle’s Traveller Story. Can also be made from fresh embershrooms.
Salt-cured pork meat/Ham. It’s amazing in salads, sandwiches, and with eggs. Isla loves to feast on ham with soft-boiled eggs! (From Isla’s letters).
Deep Fried Great Condor: (From OT1) A dish prepared by a woman in Orewell. An exceptional cook who uses her skills to feed the customers of her sister’s tavern.
Jellypeno: (From OT1) An apparently highly profitable vegetable, said to be beloved in the Frostlands because it warms people up from the inside. A variation of the jalapeno, perhaps.
Sponge cake: From Isla’s letters. He compares the moon to a sponge cake, filled with sweet custard cream, which would be amazing if chilled first. Sarisa also bakes some cakes and sweets in her traveler story, but the type isn’t mentioned.
Seven-herb soup, Scissor Crab Salad, Aurochs Steak, and Grilled Pomegranate: These all come from OT1, from the Bazaar Shopper in Grandport, via Inquire.
Sweetdough: A S’warkii confection made by H’aanit in the OT1, mentioned in a travel banter with her, Ophilia, and Cyrus (Culinary Competence). Freshly baked bread with a crunchy crust, soft doughy inside, and a dollop of wild strawberry jam at the centre. H’aanit’s sweetdough is made with rosehip and strawberry jam.
Porridge and tack: From OT1 and mentioned in the same travel banter: Culinary Competence. Ophilia mentions that she’d like to be able to bake as “it’s nothing but porridge and tack” in the church most days...
Game Stew: From OT1 and mentioned in the travel banter Culinary Competence. H’aanit is inspired to make a stew the next time she catches some game, seasoned with forest herbs, with wild turnips on the side and an apple sauce...
Highlands Chicken: (From OT1) Grilled to perfection!
Squid: (From OT1) The freshest from Fisher’s Bay!
Winter Vegetable Soup: (From OT1) A Frostlands specialty. Apparently very good for the skin, and will warm you up nicely.
Roasted Boar: (From OT1) Wild boar, slowly roasted over an open fire. A specialty of the inn in S’warkii, and much loved by H’aanit.
Pancakes: (From CotC, Isla’s letters). Isla compares the moon to a pancake smothered in whipped cream.
Smoked Herrings: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters). Isla mentions researching how to smoke red herrings and finds the literary meaning of it, too. Apparently the herring is such an exalted fish that it even has ties to literature!
Isla’s Soup: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters). Isla mentions a delicious soup in his letters, made with leeks and tuna. “You start with soy sauce, sake, rice wine, and broth, and then add the leeks and tuna to complete it!”
Bananas: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters). According to Isla, they’re delicious, nutritious, and above all, easy to eat! According to a dear friend of mine, they would grow in tropical or sub-tropical regions, making them likely to have been grown in the Gaborra continent somewhere.
Salmon: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters). Isla says, “Salmon don’t have red meat, you know. Their meat is actually white! The red colour comes fur-om the crabs and shrimp that they eat.”
Isla’s salmon dish: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters). Isla loves to saute his salmon in rich butter and savoury soy sauce until the skin is crispy and fragrant and the meat is juicy. He likes to pair it with a glass of white grape juice and the meal is absolutely meow-vellous!
Cucumbers: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters). Popular in Orsterra, too. Isla made one of the messenger cats jump high into the air after accidentally dropping one.
Sardines: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters). According to Isla, “There’s a saying in the eastern countries that even the head of a sardine can be worshipped. What matters is that you believe, and any ritual can have paw-er!” Isla also apparently throws a bit of tuna over his shoulder for good luck when he’s visiting new cities and places.
Eggs, sunny-side up: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters). Isla has read about a way of cooking eggs which compares an egg to the sun.
Udon: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters) A thick type of noodle from the east.
Tsukimi Udon: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters) A noodle dish served from the east, served with an egg on the top. It translates to ‘moon-viewing udon’.
Pecorino Cheese: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters) Isla mentions in one of his letters that he received some of this particular cheese. It’s a cheese in our world, too: it’s a hard cheese from Italy, made from sheep’s milk.
Tomatoes: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters) According to Isla, tomatoes are essential in Orsterran cuisine, but they were originally brought to the continent by travellers from the west. It is said that the name means “ate too much” in an old western tongue, but Isla doesn’t think there’s a seed of truth to that story!
Flying Fish: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters) “The flying fish has white, tender meat and can be prepared in so many delicious ways. You can grill it with salt, serve it raw, or deep-fry it. Most delicious of all, though, is its broth! It’s popular in most eastern countries, making the flying fish a popular item to trade in the region.”
Fish and eggs: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters) Apparently fish and eggs make for a delicious mix! Isla doesn’t say exactly how they make a delicious mix, however, so there’s probably a lot of recipes!
Scissor Crab: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters) A fierce beast with large pincers, but very good to eat! Many recipes exist for cooking this crustacean, including dishes where the meat has been mixed with other ingredients and baked in the crab’s own shell or boiled in a hot pot with miso. Apparently the most special is the cream tempura made with the meat from its large pincers. This might also be crab cream croquettes!
Bonito Flakes: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters) Made from Isla’s beloved tuna. It’s usually simmered, then smoked over a lengthy period of time, and then shaved into flakes. Most likely an Eastern Continent product that Isla has gained a great fondness for.
Mackerel: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters). An underrated fish, according to Isla. Another variety he bought was horse mackerel.
Fried eggs: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters) Isla has fried eggs for breakfast, and thanks to Rique he uses some special salt on them.
Tomato Sauce and herbs: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters) Part of an ‘exchange’ between Isla and Rique, but apparently the tomato sauce exists as a different type than the ketchup mentioned earlier.
Theatro Creme Brulee: (From CotC, Bravely Default collab pt 2 story). An extremely delicious dessert from Theatropolis, according to Edea.
Sushi: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters). Isla claims he invented a “meow-velous” new dish, made by mixing rice with vinegar and serving with fish. Only, it turns out that his “a-meow-zing” invention was already popular in various parts of the world.
Lemon Tea: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters) A refreshing drink that Isla recommends for relaxing.
Coconut Juice: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters). A drink best served ice cold and enjoyed on hot days at the beach.
Syrup: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters) Isla thinks that sticky syrup is so delicious to lick! What type of syrup isn’t mentioned, but that just means that any syrup can be used.
Basil: (From CotC, Isla’s Letters) A common herb used in cooking, but apparently in an ancient language basil is said to mean ‘king’. “With such wonderful fragrance and being able to be eaten fresh or dried to make a delectable spice, basil truly is the king of herbs being so excellent in so many dishes!” Isla’s favourite way to eat it is cooking it with tomatoes and cheese.
Isla goes on to say: “Basil will bloom with small clusters of white or light pink flowers. If you extract the seeds from flower spikes still in bloom, and then blanch them in boiling water and pickle them in salt. They make an addictive pickled treat that’s salty and aromatic!”
