Rating the local cinemas
I have scoured the local cinemas to find any that are showing Lisa Frankenstein. Here are my findings:
Showcase £££££
The most expensive on my list. Located in an expensive shopping centre, this cinema has an imax screen and recliner seats with their own cupholders and even a tray table. Sadly the ticket payment option wouldn't let you leave a lone seat, even if that would be on the end of the row. It also forced you to select your price option before you could see the seat map, which is a feature I really don't like as it might mean getting stuck with the front row, or having to go back through the menus to buy the 'luxury' seats. At least the toilets were clean and functional. This was one of several cinemas that require stairs or lift access to the screen itself.
Vue ££££
Nearly as expensive, this cinema also has recliners but without the mini table. My local has recently had a massive revamp but it seems they forgot about the toilets which were still hit and miss. There were no payment screens (obviously removed as they were always broken anyway) so I had to buy my ticket from the food stand. This cinema is located on the 1st floor so stairs/ lift access necessary, but once inside it is step free access to all screens. It also offers parking validation so at least that cost was minimised.
Cineworld £££
Another imax cinema, but my screening was the regular low budget affair. Parking was free up to 4 hours, and the building itself was all on ground level and felt clean (with funtional toilet locks!). The ticket price was also cheaper, but not by enough to justify the ratty old seats we had. I was able to use Meerkat Movies with a friend as I bought online, but yet again had to select my ticket type before I could see the seating chart. I don't mind paying more for seats every now and then as I prefer to select my distance from the screen, so please let me see the available seats first!
Reel £££
Only 10p cheaper than Cineworld, I had the good fortune to also have free parking due to the late show time. If I had gone earlier in the day/ on the weekend, the cost of parking would have taken this into the more expensive territory. The building itself was good, with comfortable non-recliner seats. This was sadly another select ticket price before seats user interface, and stairs/ lift was necessary to get to the screens.
Odeon ££
By far the cheapest option, with free unlimited parking and only £5 ticket price for Odeon Members (which is free to sign up to). This has always been my preferred cinema, not just because it is geographically closest, but it's all on one level, and the seats are comfotable non-recliners which you can choose from a seat map rather than selecting price options first. There's also a user friendly mobile app you can use to buy and display your ticket, and there's even an option to pre-purchase food if you're into that sort of thing. The only major downside are the broken toilets, with locks and taps not working making the building feel derelict.

Went on an 'ooting' to the cinema today!
Great fun as expected. They dedicated time at the start of the film to explaining the family set up, plus who the bad guys and good guys are is very clear throughout, so it is suitable for people unfamiliar with the series.
It keeps the cool/goofy balance in the same way as the show, with a significant amount of slapstick comic relief coming from Anya even when Loid and Yor are being serious. Both parents had a decent amount of time to shine and their moments with Anya were heart-melting.
Always delighted to get anime in UK cinemas.

Saw this in the cinema, really enjoyed it HOWEVER, I did feel it was a bit lazy, everything is absolutely chaotic and gory but I dunno I could poke a few holes in it, it didn’t matter that I could but I just felt the story was a touch lacking.

The Creator (2023)
"As a future war between the human race and artificial intelligence rages on, ex-special forces agent Joshua is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI. The Creator has developed a mysterious weapon that has the power to end the war and all of mankind. As Joshua and his team of elite operatives venture into enemy-occupied territory, they soon discover the world-ending weapon is actually an AI in the form of a young child."
Most of the time when I go and see a film that's exactly what it is, a film, or a movie. Sometimes it's a 'great film', and sometimes it's a 'decent movie'. Very, very rarely do I ever sit and watch a piece of work in the cinema and feel like I have watched art. This is one of those rare occasions. The Creator, by Gareth Edwards, is, for me, a flawless film.
Starting with the cinematography....it is a beautiful film. From start to finish, I believe in and am captivated by the world of this motion picture. The CGI is a huge part of that and, and may be some of the purest and most dynamic I have ever seen. It's not big and flashy, and in your face, like a lot of films.....and if it had been I think it would have ruined the aesthetic of what I was watching. Instead, the CGI works to enhance the realism of the images, and that is what it should do. We should be able to look at a film and say, "Yeah, obviously it's not real, but damn it looks like it bloody well is!!", and in most cases? We simply can't. In this you can genuinely believe that all of the robots are real. If I bumped into one on the street I wouldn't be put out by its apparent uniqueness. I'm no expert, but I can find no faults in the cinematography, from my perspective anyway.
The story is really well written. Like a lot of films it lifts bits and pieces from other aspects of cinema, and I saw reminders of films like Platoon, I Robot, A.I. and Blade Runner, to name just a few. Yet they didn't stand out as blaring additions. They were weaved into the narrative seamlessly, with just enough of a nod that they could be noticed but not overwhelm the scenes. I feel like the writers did an outstanding job and deserve any and all plaudits they are likely to get.
The performances throughout were simply brilliant, with quick shouts to Gemma Chan as Maya, Alison Janney as Colonel Howell, Ken Watanabe as Harun, and Amar Chadha-Patel as multiple simulants. This story was essentially the tale of a man and a child, played by John David Washington (as Joshua) and Madeleine Yuna Voyles (as Alphie). The relationship that was built between these two on set is obvious, and that clearly helped with the performances. They worked together so simply, and yet with such an elegance that it almost comes across as though Yuna has known David her whole life. The on-screen relationship builds from a rocky start. Joshua is, after, all out to destroy the 'weapon' that turns out to be Alphie. No spoilers, but any relationship on screen changes, as does that of Alphie and Joshua. Every performance was on point and should be recognised.
Overall, as the attached image says, I find this to be a flawless film. I can not find any faults, and so it can not get anything other than a perfect score. I know some people feel like there are issues with the timeline, but to them I say simply watch it again and count the days. There are no big jumps. The main body of the story takes place over a few days. It does all make sense. I promise. It's getting a maximum of 5/5, with a recommendation to everyone to go and see it. I'm certain everyone will get something from it.

Literally how can I pit two masterpieces against one another. Every new cast member was a gift, both films are beautifully scored and are such incredible stories to tell.
