Hiking/ Gaming Streamer Joonghyuk and resident cryptid photographer Dokja

Joonghyuk stumbles across Dokja halfway up a tree and is very obviously struggling to do something. Dokja is spread awkwardly between three branches, but his arms are stabilized to hold his camera that's pointed at another tree.

Joonghyuk, a streamer who does not feel like recording a man kill himself, decides to yell up to ask if the man is okay.

A few trees away, a flapping of wings and a flutter of feathers is heard. Dokja lets out a series of swears before stumbling down the tree. While the descent was rushed, it was also smooth as fuck. The lowest branch was maybe around 4 meters, yet Dokja dropped smoothly into a roll that protected his camera.

This was practiced.

“You fucking asshole do you know how long I had to sit there?”

“Uh-”

“Hours! Hours! me, with no upper body strength, had to hold myself in that tree to wait for the hawk to land! Do you understand how rare it is to get a picture of those fuckers on the ground?”

“N-”

“You don't! How could you possi-” Dokja noticed the go-pro camera strapped to his shoulder. “Ah, a streamer.” and then had the audacity to turn around and walk off into the woods as if were a normal Monday.

Joonghyuk was perplexed. What just happened and what did he just see?

Joonghyuk decided to try to apologize to the man. He understood how hard it was to get perfect shots. But when Joonghyuk pushed aside the bush that the other man walked through, he found a near sheer cliff of loose dirt.

When Dokja had walked through the brush with no problem, he made no noise of being startled that the ground was no longer there. Even stranger, there was no evidence of him going down the cliff. No scuffs in the dirt, no path, nothing. It was as if he had just disappeared.

His comment section seemed to agree that he just met some cryptid of the forest.

After the stream and getting back to his hotel room, Joonghyuk decided to ask around some of the local restaurants about his encounter.

Equipped with his camera, he first asked the restaurant owner if he could record their conversation for his video. With their permission, Joonghyuk first asked about the forest and the trails, if they got many tourists.

After a series of questions to lead up to his big one were answered, he finally asked: “Have you met any strange people in the forest?”

To which the owner, Han Sooyoung, started busting out laughing. “You-” she cut herself off with another fit of giggles that sounded more or less insane, “you met Dokja.”

“And who is Dokja?”

“Kim. Dokja.” she stressed, “and he’s our resident cryptid.”

Oh so he was right. Perhaps there was some sort of “supernatural” explanation to his existence, at least then he could make a debunk video. Those seemed pretty popular.

“Dont be getting any ideas. He is a local photographer. Just that's enough to make him crytpid. Even worse, he knows the forest like the back of his hand. Don't be surprised if he disappears. He does that. Thinks he looks all cool and mysterious.” offhandedly- she added, “reads way too many novels.”

“Oh? What does he take pictures of?”

“Animals and fauna mostly. He submits papers to... Somewhere. He somehow gets money. Wouldn't be surprised if he somehow is connected to the mafia.”

“Interesting... Do you know where-”

“Where you can find him? Your guess is as good as mine. If you walk around the forest long enough, I'm sure you'll see him again.”

....

Han Sooyoung was correct.

It was currently 4am and the sun was just starting to rise. The morning dew sparkled through the smoky fog while soft light filtered through the leaves overhead.

It painted a beautiful picture.

It seemed that Joonghyuk wasn't the only one to think of filming in the beautiful brisk morning. Because there sat Dokja at the edge of an overhang looking over the forest with camera in hand.

Dokja had his camera up to his face, snapping quick pictures at different angles. He was precariously close to the edge of the overhang. By precariously close, Joonghyuk meant that the other man was literally sitting with his legs kicking over the ledge. He hummed softly to a tune Joonghyuk didn't recognize.

Joonghyuk decided not to disturb the other man. He was taking photos of the sunrise.

However, the pathway did pass by where Dokja was sitting, so when he walked closer to see the sight Dokja was capturing, he couldn't help but bring out his own camera and start snapping a few pictures.

It just so happened that Dokja stayed within each frame. The sunlight painted him in beautiful shadows while lighting the rest of the picture up. There was even a photo Joonghyuk got where the glare of the sun made a lovely rainbow halo around Dokja.

When Dokja finally turned around, he didn't seem surprised to see Joonghyuk. He gave Joonghyuk a cunning smile, “I get to take pictures of you next. You don't get any freebies just because you're pretty.”

Joonghyuk almost scoffed. It most definitely wasn't him who was pretty.

After a moment of hesitation, Dokja added, “Ah, if you want to I mean.”

So he wasn't just a sauve and mysterious asshole. Curious.

“Oh, so I can keep my photos for free?”

Dokja rose to the bait immediately, “Absolutely not you bastard. You still owe me hawk pictures.”

“Of course.”

....

And so that's how it went. Nearly everyday, Joonghyuk went out on a morning walk to set up a basic idea of where he was taking his stream and nearly each time he would find Dokja in increasingly worrying places.

One time, at around 3:30am when the sun wasn't even up, he found Dokja three quarters the way up a tree- hanging upside down- on a branch that did not look like it could support his weight.

It took all of Joonghyuk’s willpower not to scream at the mentally ill photographer.

Dokja was taking pictures of something on another branch and Joonghyuk knew if he disturbed the other, then it would be Joonghyuk regretting his life decisions.

Joonghyuk had developed an easy habit of waiting for the photographer to move his camera away from what he has been focusing on, that's when Joonghyuk is allowed to get his attention by flashing his phone light at him.

It gets his attention pretty quick.

Dokja sits up on the branch and it bends a worryingly amount. Joonghyuk holds his head in his hand as disappointed worry overtakes him. “Get down here.”

Mirth sparks behind Dokja’s eyes, Joonghyuk said the wrong thing, “No.”

“Kim Dokja I swear you are going to die one of these times.”

“Okay. And? I'm getting good pictures.” he lowers himself to a sturdier branch- thank fuck- “Wanna see the bat picture I took! I have one of the little guy yawning.”

And just like that, Dokja went from being at the top of a tree to in front of Joonghyuk, showing him pictures of a bat he just took.

...

Another time Joonghyuk found Dokja was after a late stream. Joonghyuk got a little lost as he went his usual rounds through the trails. Someone had changed one of the signs to screw up hikers like him and he winded up on the wrong path.

Despite not knowing where he was, Joonghyuk hadn't panicked once during the stream. His viewers were none the wiser. They didn't know of his predicament.

It was late when Joonghyuk finally ended his stream with a promise to make it home on time. The sun was already down and he was on the familiar path by a creek.

He could hear the gentle trickle of the water in the distance.

What was not a normal sound was the string of familiar curses.

Of course Kim Dokja would be out right now. Joonghyuk changed his direction from the path to cut through the forest to the creek. He fumbled over his person to take out his phone to use the flashlight function.

Now feeling like he was playing a 1st-person horror game, Joonghyuk carefully picked his way through the foliage to finally find a drenched Kim Dokja.

“Joonghyuk?”

“What are you doing in the water?”

“Taken’ pictures.”

“Uh huh, where's your camera?”

Dokja huffed.

“Come here, it's cold.” Joonghyuk shrugged off his backpack to take out his emergency blanket.

Dokja got out of the water and shuffled over to Joonghyuk. The man was shivering.

“Take off your shirt.”

“We aren't that close-”

“Here,” he shoved the blanket in the other man’s arms, “be cold for all I care.” it was obvious to the both of them that he cared.

“I didn't know your camera had night vision.”

“It doesn't?”

“Then why are you still streaming?”

Joonghyuk took his camera off his shoulder. He must’ve bumped the button while looking for his phone. It's late. There shouldn't be many people watching the stream anyways. He would just delete the video quickly.

...

The next day, all people could talk about was the mysterious figure. Some people had already connected the dots that the blacked-out figure was the elusive photographer that his fans still didn't know the name of.

However, they knew plenty about the photographer's strange personality. Joonghyuk didn't see him often during his streams and even when he did, he would simply wave to the man in passing. Usually they never exchanged words on stream.

So the fans took his clip of his out of breath- “take off your shirt” way out of context.

That short clip was all over the internet. Joonghyuk couldn't escape it.

Even worse, there seemed to be a ship going on between him and the photographer. It would have been fine if the artists weren't amazing. They captured Dokja in a way that Joknghyuk didn't see often. There were even... More heated artworks that Joonghyuk most definitely did not look at.

He did not look at them.

...

The next time Joonghyuk encountered Dokja wasn't in the woods.

It was at the bar that he first started asking questions at.

Kim Dokja was at the bar counter with his camera, showing pictures to Han Sooyoung with a large smile on his face.

Did Dokja look that happy when showing pictures to Joonghyuk?

Joonghyuk took the bar seat next to Dokja, patiently waiting for the photographer to notice him.

When Dokja did, that smile was turned to him. “Ah- Joonghyuk!” he turned to the famar bartender, “Han Sooyoung, this is Yoo Joonghyuk.”

“We've met.” Joonghyuk answered.

“Yeah, came in asking me about you and where be could meet with you again. Seemed pretty despite to catch another glimpse of you.” she elbowed Dokja with a wink.

“I'm sure,” Dokja responded with a deadpan tone before turning back to Joonghyuk, “wanna see the wolves I saw today?”

Worry spiked in Joonghyuk, “You saw wolves?” he checked to make sure Dokja had no new scratches. For a moment, Joonghyuk almost asked “did you die” before stopping that question mid-thought.

Dokja nodded, “yeah! They travel the woods pretty frequently so they aren't always in one area. But they know me well enough to not run if they see me.”

“Run if they see you?”

Dokja stared at him. “Oh please don't tell me you think they're vicious creatures.”

“I don't.” he did.

“Here I have a video.”

And Dokja proceeds to pull up a video of a white wolf right up to the camera. And its growling. Deep and guttural. It sends shivers of fear up Joonghyuk’s spine.

In the video, Joonghyuk catches a glimpse of a hand going through the wolf’s fur.

“Kim Dokja.”

He hums.

“Are you petting it?”

“Yes?”

“Kim Dokja.” he has to stop himself from strangling Dokja, “its growling.”

“Yeah,” he answers as if it were a normal answer to an absurd question. “She does that,” he adds as an afterthought.

“Kim Dokja it sounds like she is about to rip your throat out.”

“And you sound like an uncaring bastard, yet here you care caring. Don't judge a wolf by his growl.”

It's Han Sooyoung that steps in, “Dokja, don't pet wild animals. I still need you as my editor.”

“She isn't a wild animal. She responds to Biyoo.”

“Oh no, he named it.”

“Biyoo is just very vocal. She wants cuddles and pets though.”

“Oh I'm sure, Dokja.” Han Sooyoung gave Joonghyuk that obviously asked “what do we do? He is going to kill himself one of these days.”

Joonghyuk could only shrug at that.

....

“Kim Dokja what are you doing?”

“Catfishing”

This time, Joonghyuk actually sighed. Even he didn't know if it was disappointment or not.

Because here Dokja was, in the middle of the woods, with a padded cat carrier connected to a string. The carrier even had treats in it.

“Why?”

“Because one of the kids lost her cat in the woods and I told her I'd find it.”

“So you resort to... catfishing?”

“Well yes, it's the most logical choice.”

“Dokja,” he could only say exasperatedly.

...

“And that's how I got free help on making posters and getting together a search party for finding a cat. We found the little guy behind the restaurant on day 3 of the search.”

...

It was nearing his time of heading back home.

Joonghyuk had an amazing month-long journey, but his hotel needed him out of the room by the end of the day because they were fully booked. Joonghyuk had already asked if they could extend his stay, but they couldn't.

Joonghyuk had explored pretty much all the trails had to offer and his view count on his hiking trips seemed to be nonexistent unless there was a certain photographer in sight.

Joonghyuk lived a few hours away and he really needed to get back to streaming gaming content- otherwise he would be breaking his contract.

Tornaments and whatnot were also approaching, and he hadn't touched a gaming console in nearly a month. He spent practically all day everyday out in those woods with a certain photographer always somewhere nearby.

Joonghyuk had forgotten about his responsibilities, he had fallen for the charm of the forest and the gremlin that inhabited it.

He had decided to go to the bar one last time before leaving tomorrow morning.

He found Dokja at the bar. Curiously, while Dokja was found at the bar quite a few times, Joonghyuk had never seen him drink alcohol.

So it was strange seeing the man nursing a glass. When Joonghyuk took the seat next to him, he could smell the strong scent of-

“Don't tell me you're drinking vinegar.”

Dokja didn't respond.

“Are you drinking vinegar?”

“It's watered down.”

“Dokja what the fuck”

“Don't knock until you try it. Besides, we're all here to drown out something. Doesn't matter what we do it with.”

Joonghyuk took the shot glass away from Dokja. “What are you doing here?”

“Heard that our resident asshole was leaving.”

“How’d you know?”

“While I spend a lot of my time in the forest, I do still have access to basic technology.”

“So you've looked me up?”

“Who wouldn't?”

Han Sooyoung cut in, “stop flirting at my bar, you idiots. Just ask for each other’s numbers and go fuck somewhere.”

Oh. Joonghyuk had never thought to ask for the other’s number.

Before he could even ask, Dokja had his own phone out and had an outstretched hand opened, waiting for something to be placed in his palm. He was looking down to his phone, opening some apps.

Joonghyuk’s sleep deprived mind blanked and he simply took the hand in his own.

“Damn that's bold.” Han Sooyoung commented.

While Joonghyuk immediately regretted his action, if he pulled away then he would loose against Han Sooyoung. So instead, he fished his phone out his pocket with his other hand and handed it to Dokja. All the while, he kept eye contact with Han Sooyoung.

He did not see the harsh blush overcoming Kim Dokja’s face.

Dokja quickly inputted their numbers into each other’s phones. It was a little clumsy, as his dominant hand was currently being held captive by the powerful bastard’s grip, but he managed.

“Stop eye fucking each other. You're making the other patrons uncomfortable.”

My Webtoon Recommendations

These are webtoons that are all 10/10 for me. Of course it doesn’t have to be a 10/10 for you, so just a reminder, do not attack me for liking a webtoon that you do not. These are my opinions and we are not going to have the exact same taste. Please be respectful.

Your Throne

Genre: Fantasy

Chapters: 75

Status: Ongoing

“Tensions are brewing under the seemingly calm surface of the Vasilios Empire, a kingdom ruled by the Imperial Family and the Temple. Lady Medea Solon has lost her place next to Crown Prince Eros, but resolves to win back whats rightfully hers. Will she reclaim her throne?”

You know whats amazing about this webtoon? The summary leads you to think that what shes winning back is the prince. Wrong. Shes trying to win back the throne. I love how this webtoon doesn’t try to make it a girl focusing her goals on a man, but on power. Medea is such a strong and well written character that you can’t help but love her.

The second protagonist Pschye, who of which is the person who took Medeas place as Crown Princess, is the complete opposite of Medea. At the beginning you hate her, but as the webtoon goes on and Medea and her get a better understanding of eachother due to them switching bodies as a wish from God, you begin to root for them as they team up to take over the throne from the Crown Prince.

The art is so beautiful and I constantly found myself at awe from the amount of detail put into it.

The Makeup Remover

Genre: Romace

Chapters: 78

Status: Ongoing

“After years of being told to focus on studying, Yeseul feels lost when she starts college and is suddenly expected to pay attention to makeup. When a chance encounter with brilliant makeup artist Yuseong leads to her taking part in a televised makeup competition, Yeseul begins to question the role that makeup and appearance play in society.”

This was created by one of my favorite webtoon creators Lee Yone. Their art is just so amazing and their stories always include such good topics.

For instance, The Makeup Remover’s theme is loving yourself for who you are. It shows how people treat you based on your looks and as someone whos struggled with that kind of thing for a while, this webtoon really touched me. The main character Yeseul is such a relatable character, even when trying to reject beauty standards, she still came subject to the pressures of living up to the people around her. She struggles with trying to love her own appearance and I really like that this webtoon didn’t try to be like, ‘fuck the beauty standard im better than that screw pretty people!!!’ it actually showed realistically how people struggle with self-image. I also love the main love interest because oh my god, we need more men like him please. He doesn’t care about Yeseul’s appearance and genuinely loves her for her personality.

Also, art is amazing. The author is so talented and you should support them by reading and liking the chapters.

Surviving Romance

Genre: Horror

Chapters: 14

Status: Ongoing

“When Chaerin Eun becomes the protagonist of the romance novel she is reading, she expects a fairytale ending with the novel’s love interest, Jeha. But when a bizarre twist makes her realize the story is not playing out as it does in the book, she’ll need the help of an unlikely character from her class to defy the new storyline and find her happy ending - if only she can figure out who this ‘Unknown Extra’ is first!”

Hands down one of my favorite webtoons by a long shot. You ever see a webtoon and think, ‘oh yeah, thats going to be a good webtoon’? Thats how this webtoon was for me. It was so good that I spent hours searching for other chapters that hadn’t been uploaded to webtoon yet on other manhua websites. I discovered it because it was also by the author of ‘The Makeup Remover’.

If there is one thing you need to know about me, its that I am a huge horror fan. So when I saw that my favorite author on webtoon had a horror themed webtoon out? You bet your behind that I binged it. Let me tell you, best choice ever.

Think of it as if ‘Ino’s Law’ and ‘Quarantine’ were combined with amazing art and a badass MC.

The Remarried Empress

I love how it is set up to the point where she cannot ‘quit’ until she completes the novel. Creating scenarios where she must survive while meeting the standards in the book. It is such an amazingly written webtoon and I cannot wait for more chapters to be released.

Genre: Fantasy

Chapters: 82

Status: Ongoing

“Navier Ellie Trovi was an empress perfect in every way - intelligent, courageous, and socially adept. She was kind to her subjects and devoted to her husband. Navier was perfectly content to live the rest of her days as the wise empress of the Eastern Empire. That is, until her husband brought hone a mistress and demanded a divorce. ‘I accept this divorce… And i request an approval of my remarriage.’ In a shoking twist Navier remaarries another emperor and retains her title and childhood dream as empress. But just how did everything unfold? “

Am I in love with Navier? Yes.

I absolutely adore how this story was set up. The first chapter begins with the big divorce scene, followed by Navier saying that she was going to be remarrying someone else since he wants to divorce her. This sets up a picture that gets completely shattered as you read the chapters. How everything falls into place with the reason behind the divorce and the remarriage is just so well written. The art is so good and and everything is just so insanely well done.

I absolutely love Naviers character, from her regalness and devoted loyalty to her role as empress, all the way to her petty moments and times of sadness. She is truly a character that you want the best for, and I cannot image anyone not liking her. Also the story is just so capable of making you feel emotions. I’ve laughed, cried, and got angry during the course of reading this webtoon. I love how betrayed I felt when the emperor brought home his mistress. It felt like I was in Navier’s shoes!

This is such a well done webtoon and I'm so excited for Navier to get all of the good things she deserves in her new Kingdom and with her new husband.

Witch Creek Road

Genre: Horror

Chapters: 74

Status: Ongoing

“A survival horror about love, acceptance, death, and revenge. And sexy flesh-eating demons. Yeah, it has those, too.”

This series seriously mind fucked me. The way that this story is set up, you don’t see the full picture until the later chapters. Season two literally blew my mind. It is also very gorey so keep that in mind if you don’t like that kind of stuff, but for me that makes it all the better. It is just so wild and crass that you can feel your heart pumping in anticipation.

They even have their own website that goes further into the lore because it’s just so wild. Also the art style is just so amazing, because it complements the story and horror theme so much. You hate most of the characters because they suck, and it is so satisfying when they are killed. Also it has it’s sad moments but I think it is a nice break from the horror so it isn’t so overwhelmingly scary.

I binged this series and I recommend reading only a few chapters a day so you don’t overload your brain.

Other then that, an amazing webtoon. Seriously, go read it, support the author, so much work goes into the story and art that it’s insane.

Dating With A Tail

Genre: Romance

Chapters: 36

Status: Ongoing

“On the dawn of her 29th birthday, unlucky-in-love Yunha discovers a shocking family secret: she’s started growing a fox tail, the mark of an ancestral curse. She must find her fated love before her 30th birthday or she is destined to become a fox forever! Even with her new-found enchanting power to attract men using her scent, will one year be enough to break the curse before it’s too late?”

Oh my gosh this is just such a good webtoon. It has amazing art, story telling, and characters. The true love interest was there the whole time, the villain isn’t who you’d expect it to be, and the spirit who cursed her is just! Im not going to spoil it but go read this webtoon!! It is so good and deserves more love.

Also Yunha is just so relatable?? Like she put off finding the woodcutter (her fated love) for 29 years and waited last minute to find him. Homegirl is me trying to do a project for school. Also to get rid of the scent that makes men attracted to her, she just starts eating a ton of garlic and that is just so funny to me.

Also I would go to church for the priest anytime if you know what i mean ;)

Omniscient Reader

Genre: Action

Chapters: 53

Status: Ongoing

“Dokja was an average office worker whose sole interest was reading his favorite web novel ‘Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse.’ But when the novel suddenly becomes reality, he is the only person who knows how the world will end. Armed with this realization, Dokja uses his understanding to change the course of the story, and the world, as he knows it.”

I cannot get over how high quality this story is. The world building is phenomenal, the art is fantastic, and the characters are very fleshed out. This deserved all the hype it has gotten so far and more.

I love the ‘mc thrown into a different reality’ trope so much. Just like with surviving romance, Dokja’s world became the story he was reading. Also a very cool aspect of the story is the level up and the fact that its like a game. Earth has turned into this show for god like creatures to watch and it follows Dokja trying to survive. I also really like that TWSA has a protagonist, but Omniscient Reader’s protagonist is not the protagonist that was in TWSA. There is just so much lore and I’ll say it again, the world building is just phenomenal.

The Ddokkaebi’s and Dokja’s interactions are also just some of my favorite moments from the story so far. And oh my goodness I would die for Lee Gilyoung. Thats it, thats the tweet. That little boy could probably kill me with his giant praying mantis and I would let him if it would make him happy.

Not So Shoujo Love Story

Genre: Comedy

Chapters: 45

Status: Ongoing

“Romance super-fan Rei Chan is ready for her first boyfriend and she knows just who it’ll be: the most handsome boy in school, Hansum Ochinchin. But her plans for the perfect story are derailed when the most popular girl in class declares herself a rival… for Rei’s heart?! This is the year her not so shoujo love story begins!”

This is just such a cute webtoon. The style is very appealing and while the humor can be childish and weird sometimes, it still has made me laugh a lot. I know the humors not for everyone but just keep in mind that it does get better as the story progresses and gets more serious.

Also its a gl! I’m really unable to find good gls these days that don’t fetishize wlw relationships. Rei being painted as a mean trouble maker whos just misunderstood and Hana being the ‘perfect girl’ who only wants Rei’s attention is such a cute dynamic. They balance each other out and better each other. Also stan Rei for constantly sticking up for Hana even if she doesn’t necessarily like her in the beginning, she has very good morals and sticks to them.

Also the defying stereotypes in this webtoon? Just god-tier. Really makes you think twice when you judge someone just on first impressions alone.

Odd Girl Out

Genre: Drama

Chapters: 264

Status: Ongoing

“After a successful winter break makeover, Nari is finally ready for her high school debut. But somehow, she ends up friends with the three prettiest girls in school! Follow Nari as she tries to navigate her brand new high school life surrounded by beauties.”

This story has made me cry multiple times. A lot, even. It is just such a beautiful tale of friendship and finding support in people who are unlike those around theme. It also tells a great story about how anybody can be the ‘odd girl out’. Be it the fat girl, the beautiful girl, the rich girl, or the laid back girl.

It goes so deep into its characters that you even feel bad for the minor antagonists. It really makes you feel for the characters and the reasons behind their actions. Also I know its long, believe me I binged all 260 chapters in the span of three days, but oh my god it is worth it. Also I know the art is kind of off-putting, in fact that’s kind of why I put off reading the story, but I’ve honestly grown to love it and the writing is so good that the art could be literal stick figures and it wouldn’t matter.

The story is amazing and also I just love Nari. She’s just the best.

Gremoryland

Genre: Horror

Chapters: 67

Status: Completed

“Six old school friends are invited to be the first visitors of GremoryLand, a new horror theme park that promises an experience as unique as it is spooky. But once this experience starts there is no turning back, and they find themselves tested beyond what they imagines, facing their most desperate fears in order to survive.”

This is definitely one of those stories were you kind of need to turn of your brain and choose to ignore ‘plot holes’ while reading the early chapters because this story definitely gets crazy if you don’t know the ending. Believe me if you stick with it it will all make sense and the satisfaction you get from finding the ending is just so worth it.

The story is so good, and who Gremory is you would literally never suspect. When it was revealed who Gremory was and how he was able to create Gremoryland is so fucking mind boggling that you would never guess. I had to do a double take. It wasn’t like one of those random characters with a vendetta type of twists, but like one you can pick out from clues throughout the story.

Its so good and twisted and just so worth at least giving it a chance.

These were some of my favorite webtoons on the app! Of course it’s not all of them because unfortunately there is a 10 image limit. I also made this because I’ve run out of new webtoons to read and would love if you guys commented some of your own recs. I can also do a part two with other ones I liked if y’all want more recommendations. You guys can even request specific categories like Drama or Sci-Fi and I can tell you my favorite ones from that genre.

Also a reminder - if you disagree with any of my praise of these webtoons be respectful about it. At the end of the day it’s my opinion and you don’t need to be rude when disagreeing with that opinion.

ORV DND Main Scenario One

This might be a good (read: horrible) way to keep track of my notes for this Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint Dnd styled game.

Anyway here’s how it goes.

It’s the GM and five Player Characters.

On a bus ride from the airport to Disneyland is when the world goes dark and a dokkaebi pops in to start the main scenario. Canon script happens, as in NPCs freaking out, one even offering money, the president’s emergency broadcast only for the dokkaebi to blow up their heads.

Then a message appears in the air.

Main Scenario # One: Prove Your Value - Kill one or more living organisms

Roll for perception.

Each PC takes notice of something. A spider with a fly caught in its web. A cockroach by their feet. A potted plant. Someone’s cat is looking a rat.

Everyone on the bus still hasn’t moved and thus the dokkaebi returns to yell at them and show them another channel’s successful scenario. A screen appears to show a classroom of girls’ heads blowing up for failing the scenario. There is only one survivor, a girl pushes another out the window.

An NPC shakily says ‘I hope they’re on the first floor.’

Yeah, they weren’t on the first floor. The screen displays the name of the sole survivor, an NPC we may potentially meet in the future.

That’s when the GM ask me to roll. No clarification to what for, just asks me to roll.

I do. I got a natural one.

The GM was either frowning at me or silently laughing, I could not tell cause I was too busy feeling like a failure.

Anyway, the GM nicely tells us that I learn nothing from this.

That’s when I remembered, when the GM first started brainstorming this game, I suggested that what if I have the prophet attribute and I have to roll to get a good divination, that way I control myself from knowing too much for reading ORV.

I honestly didn’t think my suggestion would make it in the game cause the GM is changing the formula or something. I dunno, we’re only getting started.

Back to the game.

Two PC easily squish the insects. A third is making their way to the potted plant. The last two, me and the other PC, share an uneasy glance together before looking at the cat.

That’s when a fight breaks out. The GM bluntly describes that a guy with the nazi tattoo and a confederate guy is kicking the shit out of some defenseless person. An NPC yells at them to stop but there’s like canon script dialogue about new world order or survival of the fittest and stuff and that NPC gets shaken up.

With time running out, me and the other PC decide not to kill the cat and go start attacking the two NPCs. As we’re beating them up, that third NPC pulls out a gun.

Four out of five PCs proceed to jokingly whine/complain to the GM about how we couldn’t bring a gun too. This was about pregame shenanigans about what’s in our inventory. Where four us were basically all dogs trying to steal shoes but the GM kept taking it away from us. But like with guns.

And so the two other PCs decide to get the gun while me and the other PC finish killing off our own targets.

Time runs out, the dokkaebi returns and starts blowing up the heads of those who didn’t kill a living organism.

Four of us PCs start freaking out about our last party member. Agonizing and fearing the worst as all the heads are blown and bodies collapse onto the bus floor.

The fifth PC just stares at us and says, “Guys, I’m here. I smashed the potted plant.”

Apparently while most of us were occupied with killing people, we did not notice when that PC fulfilled the scenario.

So us five survive the Main Scenario.

Canon script proceeds to happen, the dokkaebi congratulating us, awarding us coins, the coin tutorial, the outside world has monsters, and how we get the chance to become incarnations to sponsoring constellations.

As the GM prepares to send us our Constellation Sponsor Selections, we are asked to roll for something else first.

GM tells us, “Roll for emotionally instability check.”

Collectively, we all went ‘oh no.’

We do and basically if we roll low, we’re super depressed, if high, we’re super panicky. I think this is just to get more an idea on how to roleplay our characters. I got the depression roll by the way.

So for the Constellation Sponsor Selection, my character got three options.

Two were original characters/constellations and the third was the Savior of Corruption.

We all took turns on talking one on one with the GM. When it was my turn I immediately asked if they knew about the Savior of Corruption. Last time I recalled, the GM was around the Absolute Throne arc so I was surprised to see the archangel this early.

Anyway, I decided to go for one of the original constellations, Little Light Dragon of the Sunshine, a reference to Yang Xiao Long from RWBY, but here her name is Goldilocks.

So keeping in mind that only me and the GM know about ORV, a bunch of different theories are swirling in my head.

I end up galaxy braining, “Are we going to see Kim Dokja?”

“What no,” GM pointed out, “Wrong continent, you’re in America.”

“Oh right... Wait, is Anna Croft here?”

With a Cheshire smile, GM asks, “I don’t know is she?”

I proceed to internally scream.

So in character, we introduce ourselves, loot the bodies, push back any existential crisis in our heads, and make our ways to Disneyland because that’s where the plot is leading us.

On the highway exit before reaching our destination, the bus is out of gas and stops moving.

That’s when the GM happily begins Main Scenario # Two but that’s also where we called it a night.

I am so nervous about everything in this game like omg. The coins are so stressful too. I only have 900 but I want to use it for my status, either for strength or stamina. I still can’t believe I got a natural one for the prophet roll, that would’ve been so useful but like it’s probably a good thing I did so I won’t expect anything from the plot.
