his breaths come a little faster than his body can process, his heart is pounding in his chest, and his head feels like someone’s stuck a hot poker in it. 

it takes him what feels like a few minutes to settle down again, clutching the bedsheets in a tightly wound fist. 

once things seemed to have returned to a normal level, he tries to remember what’d startled him. was it a dream? a memory? had he simply jerked himself awake whilst on the precipice of sleep, like you claimed he did—

his mind seems to be clearing up, because his next instinct is to sit up and make sure you’re okay.

you’re fine, sound asleep on your side of the bed. 

satoru relaxes, albeit only slightly. he’s not sure why he’d been struck with such sudden panic. there’s just this…feeling. he might even go as far as to call it an overwhelming sense of dread, if he were dramatic.

there’s something. it’s hiding in the back of his brain, somewhere even his six eyes can’t find or comprehend. 

he leans back against the headboard, reaching up to run his hands through then lightly grip the strands of his hair. outside, the sun’s barely peeking over the horizon, but whatever had startled him had left him wide awake. 

“the kids are gonna be up soon,” you mumble, pulling him out of the mess of his mind. “better sleep while you have time.” 

time. the word flashes like a flint strike in his mind, but the sparks don’t quite catch yet.

so he lays next to you, wrapping an arm around you to pull you into his chest. he feels a bit better, with you in his arms. 

“what’s wrong?” you mumble, voice thick with sleep. 

“nothing,” he lies.

you hum, but he knows that you know him too well. you always know when he’s lying. 

you twist in his arms so the two of you are face to face, the tip of your nose brushing his. 

your sleepy gaze finds his, sending him a small smile. “hi.”

he doesn’t reply because he finds he’s too busy memorizing the details or your face; the flecks of colour in your eyes, the slope of your nose. it’s as if it’s the first time he’s seeing it.

or maybe the last.

the thought comes out of nowhere and scares him so badly that he tries to pull away.

“hey,” you murmur, cradling his face in your hands. he catches your wrist intending to pull you away, but instead he clings to you like a lifeline. you’re the only thing keeping him grounded. “you’re okay.”

he wants to believe you, he really does. but anxiety is beginning to gnaw on the edge of his sanity.

“something’s wrong,” he admits quietly. “i don’t— i don’t know—”

“you worry too much,” you sigh, your thumb smoothing over his cheek. 

“i just want us all to be safe,” he tells you. 

“i know,” you hum again, smiling a little sadly. “i just wish you wouldn’t let it come at your expense.”

there are a lot of things he wants to say in this moment. he wants to ask why you’re worried, because you know he’s the strongest. that he would rip the heavens apart for you. he wants to tell you that he has a plan, and that he knows it’ll work. 

(a plan for what? he thinks briefly. he can’t remember.)

but most of all…he wants to tell you that he loves you and the life you’ve built together. too much to leave it all behind. 

but all that comes out is,

“i’d rather it be me than any of you.” 

“don’t say that,” you frown. “we need you. i need you.”

there’s an awful ache settled deep in his chest, carving into the place where his heart sits.

“well, it’s a good thing i’m not planning to go anywhere anytime soon.” lie. “i love you.”

truth.

he rests his forehead against yours, tangling his fingers with yours. 

the memories hit him like a gut punch. 

handmade mochi. the flick of a lighter. a beach in okinawa. megumi and tsumiki laughing. you in your wedding dress, telling him you love him. 

a crowded station. the beginning of the end. 

his eyelids are suddenly heavy. there’s not enough time, he panics. that can’t be it—

“i’ll be here when you wake up,” you promise, and even though you sound like you’re a million miles away, he can hear the sadness in your voice. “you can rest now.”

Osamu:

This girl had been coming into the shop daily for the past month to stare at Osamu. She always got the same order: an iced matcha tea with a strawberry ice cream mochi. It was just a cutesy order, too. You scoff just as the words leave her mouth.

It's not like it was a bestseller that most people ordered. You must admit you were a tad irrational; some may say it was petty. But she was gawking at YOUR man. It was unforgivable.

You couldn't help but scoff every time she came into the store and ordered in her stupid cute voice, batting her eyelashes, leaning over the counter ever so slightly to make sure he would get a peek at her cleavage. She did the same thing today but went too far this time. She gripped his biceps and gushed over how strong he must be. Those were YOUR BICEPS that only you had the right to feel up and gush over. How dare she!

You had enough. You stomped up to the counter and shoved her out of the way, knocking her to the ground. She looked up at you with wide eyes, almost on the verge of tears. "Back off, my boyfriend," was the only thing you needed to say before she hurried away. "And don't forget your drink!" you yell after her as you grab the order from the counter and cuck it out the door, barely missing her.

"Ya been talkin to Tsumu too much." You look back to Osamu to see him laughing. "Crazy does look hot on you, baby, but you probably shouldn't do that again. I need these people to come back. Yer gonna kill ma livelihood." He came around the counter and planted a kiss on your forehead.

"I'm not crazy! And how come you never said anything to her? " you playfully punch his chest.

"Cuz, I barely notice em. Yer only one for me." you snuggle closer into his chest. "Okay?" "Okay."

Atsumu:

"C'mon, babe, talk ta me. I tried to tell 'er off, I swear!" It was after a game, and Atsumu was driving the two of you home, albeit unwillingly on your part. He had to beg you to get in the car, and you were set on taking a taxi. Leading to at least 30 minutes of quiet arguing in the parking garage. You felt a bit guilty making such a fuss, knowing how tired he must be from his game. But it was all the more reason to let you take a taxi like you wanted!

This was probably already bubbling before tonight. About two weeks ago, the Jackles had hired a couple of assistant managers. There was one in particular that gave you pause. You knew her; everyone on the team knew her. Not personally, of course. She was notorious for her affair with a captain of another team down in Okinawa. The scandal was in every magazine across Japan for weeks. It was a shitshow. The captain had to leave the team, and his wife left him, not that he didn't deserve that. And she was forced to step away as well. But it seemed that it didn't damage her professional reputation too much as the Jackles so quickly hired her.

After the game, you saw her throw herself onto Atsumu and gush about how amazing he was. She had his hands all over him.

If you had taken two seconds to process things, you would have seen that he was uncomfortable.

It was outside the locker room, so there was no press, but you were there, and before you knew it, you grabbed onto her hair, pulling her away. She didn't miss a beat, grabbing onto your hair as well. You two wrestled to the ground, scratching each other up before Atsumu finally got you off her. She yelled something about you being "A crazy bitch" before walking off.

Now you were sitting in the car, scratched up with a sore scalp, giving your boyfriend the silent treatment. "Baby, I swear, I was gonna tell 'er off, but ya didn't give me a chance." You stayed quiet, still not looking at him. "Fine, how 'bout I get yer favorite food and give ya all the cuddles ya want." You look at him, arms still crossed on your chest, and grumble, "And we watch a movie.". He smiled a bit and chuckled. "Okay, anythin' ya want. You kinda scare me now, babe."

Hinata:

Shoyo was too pure for his own good. He doesn't even realize the bartender is flirting with him. She was playing right into it, too! She opened by asking about his nice tan, which was all your dear boyfriend needed to start going on and on about Brazil and beach volleyball. In his excitement, he couldn't see how her eyes roamed his dress shirt, which couldn't quite contain his newly built Brazilian body.

But you noticed.

Honestly, after a few drinks, you didn't care if he noticed; you just wanted it to stop. You stomp over from the dance floor to the bar. Pull the bartender in by her ear and pour the drink she had served Hinata down her shirt. This quickly earns you a punch, and before you know it, the two of you grabbed a fistful of each other hair and began screaming obscenities at each other. It took Hinata a minute to process what was happening, and as soon as he did, it took all his strength to pull you two away from each other. After that, you two quickly ran off before the girl returned with the security. You make it outside and lean in an alley while trying to catch your breath when Hinata pipes up, still out of breath.

"Wow, Y/N, when did you get so strong? You have to teach me how to fight like that." He looked at you in awe; honestly, you couldn't help but laugh. You had to admit that you were a tad embarrassed by your outburst. How could you ever let your jealousy get the better of you? He was perfect and absolutely adored you, even in this situation,

The first time he saw you was at a beach in Okinawa. It was a sunny day, only a few dozen people on the beach at that time. But you, you stood out, not just for your tan skin and semi revealing bikini, but because of a certain aura about you. You were glowing, your hair a little blonde in some areas from being in the sun, your cheeks a bit pink form being sun kissed and your freckles more visible.

You wanted to get away from the usual trashy and dirty beaches of Chicago for once, having never really been able to go on a vacation most of your life.

You usually never travel solo, which is why you decided to meet a friend who lived in Okinawa, but spent most days at the beach just enjoying the sun by yourself, and you didn’t mind.

You had never seen water so clear and blue, the sand so white. The little stands along the shore had coconut drinks and red bean mochi, which you sometimes indulged in while reading a book under your umbrella.

The constant exercise of swimming made you look and feel better, and you were proud of your body.

Just like every other day, you decided to stop by a convenience store to get some coffee/soda before riding a rental bike to the beach.

Your tan lines were so prominent, having many bikinis with different styles. You dipped in the cool saltwater to your mid waist level for a few minutes before going back to your little towel and umbrella, although you must have swam farther away than you thought, having to run down the beach to your little spot.

While you were making your way, you noticed a boy not familiar. He was slim and tall, you could tell by his long limbs. He was less tan than you, probably not being in the sun you thought. His shades blocked his eyes, but framed his sharp features handsomely. He had black hair with an undercut and dark blonde highlights at the tips. He had 3 ear piercings on each of his ears, flattering him well. He was dressed in what looked like expensive chrome hearts swim shorts and a few beaded bracelets.

You looked away quickly, not wanting to be rude as you continued jogging to your umbrella, you could feel his gaze still on you, which you would be lying if you said you weren’t flattered.

The boy was a few hundred feet or so from you, shades by a small umbrella drinking something alcoholic. Another man was next to him, shorter with longer black hair half up in a pony tail. They were both handsome.

You sank to your knees when you got to your umbrella, tucking your hair behind your ear as you leaned over to get your water bottle. You felt the boy trying to watch you thinking you didn’t look, and smiled at him when you made eye contact. He quickly looked away in embarrassment. It was hot, and you were feeling more sexy, so you poured the water above your head and flung your head back, enjoying the non sticky cool water as it went down your body.

You looked back at the boy again to see him with his mouth open, shamelessly staring before looking away before you could see him. You giggled to yourself, as his face grew red.

The boy next to him left to go for a swim, leaving him alone. You suddenly got brave and brought another water and walked up to him, your hips swaying and your wet hair dangling in your face as you moved it out of your face and tipped your head back slightly.

You approached him calmly but nervously. You held out your water to him. “Are you thirsty?” You giggle. He seemed to short circuit, his jaw dropping as he just stared at you. He looked down to your water and then sighed of disappointment/relief. “Oh, water, haha no I’m fine,” you chuckle

“What did you think I meant?” You tease. “Wha-nothing I um yeah,” he awkwardly sputtered out. You kneeled infront of him, digging your knees into the cool sand. He sat up straighter and took off his shades. He really was handsome. “So, do you come here often?” You say, looking out at the water.

“Oh, no not really, I just got the chance to while I’m here, what about you?” He says coolly. “Me? Same, I’ve been coming here almost everyday for the last month, since I’m just visiting.” You say as you look at him, smiling.

“Your Japanese is really good,” he says in English to you. “I didn’t expect you to know English,” you say. “It’s still shit, I’ve been learning so I can talk with the locals here and stuff,” you explain. He might have been already smitten. A foreign girl, with such charisma and confidence, and so sexy, was he dreaming?

“What’s your name?” He questions, giving you a small smile.

In Okinawa, Zenzai ぜんざい means Shave Ice かき氷 with Azuki beans and mochi.

In Okinawa, the beans used to be from a traditional Ryukyuan dish called, Amagashi あまがし which was made of barley, brown sugar, and mung bean. After WWII, people in Okinawa started to use Azuki and with refrigerators becoming commonplace, started add shave ice on top.

Traditionally, Amagashi was eaten on ユッカヌヒー Yukkanuhii (5th month, 4th day of the lunar calendar) and グングヮチグニチ Gungwachigunichi (5th month, 5th day of the lunar calendar).

[Pressing the book against her chest, Yuriko let her smile sparkle to Nalia. Soon, she picked up the lavender soap, eyes glimmering.]

"I love this scent! And it goes perfectly with my shampoo. Awh, Nalia, Yuuto, thank you! Thank you really!"

[Putting everything aside, Yuriko hugged both her brother and his fiancée. She almost couldn't believe her luck. She really was spending her birthday with her family and friends. Getting presents was nice but this thought made the day for her. She wasn't alone which was the best gift ever.]

I mentioned Togetsu Jinja towards the beginning of our journey- it shares a landmass with 0005 Bazumitama-sha, being a region to the north so you can walk between then fairly easily. If you do walk betwee them, you will probably notice a lot of Shrines along the way, especially small ones, that are not participating in the Goshuin Project, but are still worth seeing. Little Shrines tucked around all over is pretty common, kept clean and maintained by people in the area, without the whole complex and staff of the larger Shrines. But once you get to our destination Togetsu Jinja, we have a Shrine to rabbits! The moon features prominently here- while you may see the face of a man in the moon, it is more traditionally a rabbit in the moon in Japan, more specifically a rabbit pounding mochi. This Shrine is right next to an entertainment district- if you know what I mean.

Continuing with Okinawa sightseeing！！！

I went to Okinawa World、walked through Gyokusendo Cave、and did the Ryukyuu glass experience！！

In the Ryukyuu glass experience、I took the glass melted by the artisans、and formed the opening and base of the glass cup myself！

Watching the glass gradually take shape、was really interesting！

Since I made it myself、I feel so much affection for it☺️

I don't have the finished product yet、so I'm looking forward to it being delivered！

I went with Shionnu、and we bought souvenirs、and ate Blue Seal ice cream、so we made the most of our time〜😚

At Blue Seal、we ate “Salted Chinsuko” and “Ryukyuu Tea Warabi Mochi” ice creams！！！🍨

“Salted Chinsuko”、had the perfect combination of sweet vanilla ice cream、with Salted Chinsuko biscuit pieces！

It was so delicious I feel like I could eat it forever！🤤💕

“Ryukyuu Tea Warabi Mochi”、had squishy brown sugar warabi mochi and black tea flavoured ice cream、so it felt like eating tapioca milk tea、which was super delicious！！！

If I get the opportunity to go back to Okinawa、I'll definitely order it again！

I'm so glad I finally got to eat Blue Seal ice cream！🥰
