PILOT: To See A Familiar Face [Lookism x Transmigrated!OC]

Sypnosis: After realizing Avery was in the PTJverse, she decided to have a little fun and become more involved in the story as one would think.

OR:

In which a fangirl gets plopped into a country full of hot people, and decided to go full fangirl.

WARNINGS: None.

Chatter lingers around the classroom as certain students or friend groups go to one corner to another as they talk about numerous topics. One group was full of girls, all circled around one person’s desk, Avery Hwang.

As she humorlessly talked to her friends, her mind was in a different place. Today… She thought. Today is the day I will meet the main character of this world, or more accurately, one of the main characters of this universe, Daniel Park!  The olive skin-toned girl excitedly taps her feet as she musters up the courage to finally talk to him in person.

Yes, that’s right. She’s aware of everything around her, and for the longest time too. After getting in an accident at the ripe age of 5, she remembered all of the memories from her past life and even got the nearly-the-same powers of a certain MC from Questism. Instead of giving her cards as a reward, it gives her points to put on different aspects of herself in which she can upgrade.

She got 50 points from a previous quest? Great! Now she can choose to put in any stats on her that she sees fit. Intelligence? Put 3 in there! A hobby shes never done before suddenly becomes available in the shop that requires 300 points to master? Put in 12 points in there!

This is how her life has been for the past 16 years. At some point in her life, she managed to unlock a tiny creature (which she considers to be her mascot if she had any), to talk to!

There were many stories here in the Pak Tae Jun  verse she could have chosen, but she chose to be close within the story of lookism. Why?

Cuz it was more fun that way, Duh.

“Alright class, settle down!” The teacher drops his text books to his desk to gain  everyone’s attention. The students quickly went to their seats to get ready for class.

“We have a new transfer student who will be joining us today. Now I know we’re halfway towards the semester, but I still expect all of you to greet them a warm welcome!” Hushed whispers were passed out and about trying to figure out who the new students might be.

“A new student?”

“At our school?”

“Is it a guy? Or a girl?”

Holy shit! This is it! Avery excitedly awaited for Daniel Park’s appearance to J high for the first time. I’ll finally get to meet him!

The teacher signals the new kid to get in to introduce himself.

“Hello. I’m Daniel Park, nice to meet all of you.” The new kid smiles to the rest of the class as everyone gapes in booth horror and amazement. Gasps and mutters are heard from everywhere in the class, much to the teacher’s disappointment.

“Gosh! Even his voice is cute!”

“Is he a trainee?”

“Look how tall he is.”

The teacher instructs Daniel to sit on the empty seat at the back as Daniel followed suit.

One girl was cleaning her classes and coincidentally put it on the exact same time as Daniel walked by. A sudden gust of wind comes whipflashing at the girl’s face, cracking her glasses. Daniel walks pass her not noticing before the girl mutters next to her seatmate.

“I bet he’s over 180cm!”

“Is he an undercover idol?”

Daniel sat down and remembered how his first day of middle school was back in his old body and school. He was so excited to open up a new chapter in his life, only to be threatened by his seatmate not to talk to him or else.

He shudders over the fear of his seatmate being the same. His eyes linger over to his left side to see his eventual demise.

“Hey, I’m Zack Lee. Nice meeting you.” The student nonchalantly responds with his hands on his pockets. Daniel’s eyes widened as he realized who he was seated next to.

“O-oh, yeah! Hi!” Daniel stuttered as he stiffly waved his hand to the mean looking raven haired boy.

It was the guy who beat me up at Central Seoul yesterday! His eyes quickly darted around the classroom only to see the dreaded brunette girl he accidentally bumped into…

Oh no. His face paled at the thought while covering half his face with his hand.

“Hi there.” His body jumped at the new voice to his right. He looked over to see a half brunette half blonde with a complicated long hair style. “My name is Avery Hwang. Welcome to our class! Hope you don’t get too spooked here…” Her lips ruptured a laugh and nudged her head towards the guys in front of their row, a bunch of tough and scary looking kids sending him daggers.

Daniel’s body shivers over the thought of being beaten up again, even in his new body. Just as he was having an internal battle within himself, a new player was added into the battle grounds. A girl was walking towards his direction after she introduced herself.

“Daniel, right? Hi! I’m Zoe.” She gives Daniel her most sweetest smile before waving a small hello. Mutters could be heard around the classroom once again, only this time it was directed to the bob cut girl.

“Zoe Park…” One grimaced.

“I knew she would do that.”

“As soon as she sees someone good-looking…”

“She’s at it again!”

“C’mon guys, let’s be positive now-“ Avery tried to save Zoe’s reputation.

Wow, she’s hot! Daniel looked at her with his mouth agape, a blush creeping up his cheeks.

Zoe feigns surprise as she points at his face. “Hey, you’ve got something on your face!” Daniel touches his face trying to look for the supposed thing. “Where?” He asks.

“A hand-some-thing! Hehe~” She giggles as the rest of the class blanches at her sorry excuse of a flirt. The girl right next to Daniel sighs in disgust while hiding her face in second-hand embarrassment.

“I knew it!”

“Just expect Zoe to come in like a damn buffalo..”

“Wish that was me frfr”

“Get a life man!”

A click of a tongue could be heard as Zack stares at Zoe with a disgusted look on his face. “Hey, Zoe. Stop flirting and sit down already. It’s annoying.” His eyes twitches an annoyance and embarrassment.

Zoe pretend to get scared as she ducks down Daniel’s desk. “Oh Zack! You’re so scary~” Zack’s gaze at her alters from cringe and gets even more furious. “Jesus! Why do you women act so weird?! Ugh, all of you are the same.” Wait! Not Mira! Mira is different! Zack looks over to Mira to apologize, only to see her blushing and staring at Daniel’s figure.

Suddenly, all his bare minimum respect for the new kid suddenly vanished away as he glares at Daniel.  I hate the new transfer dickhead!

“Come on, guys! I’m not even done talking yet! Zoe, get back to your seat.” The teacher instructs to Zoe as she grumbles while walking back to her seat, a few of the kids laughing and giggling at her failed attempt.

As the teacher continues talking, Daniel is left on a sour mood as he realizes he’s done fucked up. A tap on his shoulder breaks his inner turmoil as he looks over to the girl beside him, Avery Hwang.

“Sorry you had to experience that. Zoe has a knack for trying to weed out good looking guys for god knows why, and Zack is a rather… Interesting individual.” They both look over to Zoe who’s acting all cute and pristine in class as she know has a reason to finally act properly. “Please forgive them. And don’t get shaken up too much! I’ve seen your face and its not looking so well.”

Daniel scratches his cheek before chuckling humorlessly. “Oh, yes. Of course. I don’t mean too much trouble.” His eyes goes to look at the board to distract himself from his thoughts as he thinks of a hundred ways to live his new life.

Unbeknownst to him, Avery’s honey colored eyes still lingers on his figure, her face veiled in mystery. After all, this isn’t the first time she met Daniel Park. She knew him from long ago, from a past life.

Just divided between a screen.

If I were to shift to lookism, I imagine it’s in the anime style but everyone gets to keep their original character designs, like Zoe with her bob cut and more cuter and softer look. But I’d let Mira’s appearances stay as in the anime and vasco cuz I like him tan like that ong

EAST HAVEN'S 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY EVENT: THE WIND STORM

With the 1 year anniversary of East Haven's opening, we have decided to have an event that centers around a wind storm that is blowing it's way through town, inciting chaos where ever it goes. The event will start on January 5th at 12pm (noon) and end on January 15th at 12am (midnight). No new starters should be posted after January 10th.

You were placed into groups that are listed below. You will be expected to write with at least one character in that group that you normally do not write with. You are still free to do other threads with others in the group, but are required to at least one.

This is incredibly niche, but… Avatar: The Last Airbender AU fusion with The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Sokka is Chip Tolentino. The winner of last year’s bee, he’s experienced, highly intelligent and a little too cocky. But this time he gets… distracted by Ty Lee’s friend Suki in the crowd.

Ty Lee is Leaf Coneybear. She’s not that smart. Her sisters have been telling her that for years. She came third in her district bee, but the winner and runner-up weren’t available on the county one’s date.

Mai is Marcy Park. She succeeds at everything she does, only sleeps three hours a night, isn’t allowed to cry… and is not all business.

Aang is Logainne Schwartzandgrubiniere. His adoptive dads - a younger Tashi and Gyatso, the former strict and ruthless, the latter kind and more lenient - have high expectations for him and he lives in fear of disappointing them. He is precociously aware of and involved in social activism.

Azula is Olive Ostrovsky. She’s taken to the bee by her big brother because their father is working late again and their mother has recently left the country, and spends much of it struggling with her insecurities as her dad continues to not show up. Then to her amazed delight, she finds that she’s making a friend for the first time.

Toph Beifong is William Barfée. She has a magic foot technique, tapping words out in braille. She probably could have won last year if her overprotective parents hadn’t pulled her out against her will the instant her competitors got a little mean. Her growing bond with Azula is purely platonic (unless you ship them, which I don’t).

Piandao is Rona Peretti. He won this bee as a child. Treasuring that memory and valuing the discipline and excellence that accomplishment entails, he has become the moderator, taking pride in helping the new generation thrive under pressure, discover their potential and learn life lessons.

Zhao is Douglas Panch. He’s bitter about being a vice principal instead of a principal. Five years ago he stopped working at the bee due to an “incident”, likely because of his anger issues. But he’s totally fine now, he swears.

Jet is Mitch Mahoney. He’s an ex-convict being the bee’s comfort counsellor for his community service, just eighteen himself. Though jaded, he comes to care a lot about the kids.

We decided to take a little hike today, we ended up going up Dog Canyon to the Line Cabin - 6 miles RT. A bit of a climb, but nothing too crazy - the descent was a bit harder due to loose rocks on the trail. Awesome views and a few blooms:

Daniel Kenneth Diehl (1940 – 2023) was born in Vinton, Iowa, on January 31, 1940, to Reverend Chester and Alice (Dieken) Diehl.  In 1947 Chester became the pastor of Glenwood Bible Church, and the family moved to Glenwood, Illinois.  As a young boy Danny heard his father talk about God’s gift of salvation, and he put his faith in Jesus Christ.  He spent his childhood helping on his relatives’ farms, picking strawberries in the family garden, and practicing the piano and trumpet.  In his teens, he became the captain of Glenwood’s Youth for Christ Bible quiz team; their championship quiz on the book of Ephesians was held in Torrey-Gray Auditorium and aired on WMBI during Moody’s Founder’s Week. 

Danny attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1963 and a Master’s Degree in 1965.  During his time at the university, he toured the Midwest with a brass ensemble group known as the King’s Karions.  After graduating from college, Danny took a job at U.S. Steel and assisted his father with the music/youth ministries at Beach Community Bible Church in Beach Park, Illinois.  He would often play the trumpet for youth rallies held at nearby churches, and at one of these events, Danny met Nancy Taborsky; they were married on August 9, 1969.

The newly married couple soon realized that God was calling them to a ministry at Indian Hill Bible Church in Ingleside, Illinois, where they spent the next 50 years serving the God they loved.  Pastor Danny led music, played piano and trumpet, conducted choirs, coached Bible quiz teams, worked with the youth ministry and Awana programs, and assisted with the upkeep of the building – all while working in carpentry/maintenance at Zion Benton-Township High School.

Danny also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, sharing tomatoes and cucumbers with friends and neighbors, playing ping pong, watching The Andy Griffith show, and eating at In and Out Burger!

Danny went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 5, 2023.  He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, his parents, and his sister Evangeline Willeman.  He is survived by four daughters: Melissa (Scott) Morrison, Jennifer (Jin) Sim, Carrie Diehl, Rebecca (Nathan) Parsons; 8 grandchildren (Collin, Samantha, Lauren, Ella, Oliver, Gretta, Logan, Kensi); his brother-in-law and sister-in-law (Randy and Patty Hough) and 6 nieces and nephews: Linda (Gene) Correa, Larry (Annie) Willeman, Lee (Lucie) Willeman, Lori (John) Stinnett, Emily Hough, and Hannah Hough.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 3:00pm, at Indian Hill Bible Church, 36133 N. Fairfield Road, Ingleside, IL.  After the service, guests are invited to join the family for dinner in the Fellowship Hall.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Indian Hill Bible Church, AWANA Children's Ministry. 

Thank you for being a blessing in our father's life. We are so grateful to the LORD for his faithful testimony and for the kindness of all of you.

Day 15 drive to Chiricahua Natl Monument

A short run before we leave early this morning. Wanted to run in the canyon this area is named after (Dog Canyon) so we ran up, up, up until we were in the State Park (Oliver Lee SP). Very disappointing. Yes, the higher view of the valley below was even better than our camp.

We could even see the 10 mile away Holloman AFB, and there was a short path with a couple plaques describing Mortar Holes...

...and ruins of an excavated cabin. But, try as we might, even Maddie couldn't navigate her way through the Prickly Pear Cactus to figure a way to walk into the canyon. So these pics will have to be our memory.

The Ending (for today)

It wasn't the smoothest travel day with difficulty at the propane place (2 of them) and the carwash and getting water so we're here (long after dark). Uggg. We started out so long ago. BUT. We're here. Oh but wait, we apparently had to pass Indian Bread Rocks on our way to our planned location. As we did it was almost dark and we said - let's just stay here and then decide when to move on to the part of Chiricahua we'd planned. So we're in a beautiful place and we have water, propane, gas and food. Sounds like a great day to us!

2021 Reading Log

In 2021 I read 71 books, beating my reading goal of 50! I was in two book clubs last year. For 2022 I’m dropping to one – I found the reading manageable but not the meetings.

I mainly read books that were slow paced, 300-499 pages long and reflective, emotional and dark. My top three genres were Classics, Literary and Historical.

 ONE.   give   me   the   clueless   helper   x   hacker   relationship.   originally   ning   can   message   your   muse   anonymously   and   ask   them   to   take   so-and-so   amount   of   money   from   an   atm   at   a   specific   location   and   time.   they   don’t   have   to   believe   him   but   then   he   says   they   can   keep   majority   of   the   profit.   they   do   it   with   ease   ,   leave   ning’s   cut   at   his   spot   and   they   continue   to   do   such.   coincidentally   ,   your   muse   bumps   into   ning   in   person   one   day   and   they   sorta   bash   heads.   until   ning   hacks   their   phone   and   teases   them   about   the   atm   hits.   a   stretch   plot   but   i   like   it.

 ONE.   give   me   a   plot   where   artie   works   under   this   prestige   family   company   and   is   sorta   cool   with   the   son   /   daughter   of   whoever   owns   the   place   with   a   sibling   who   may   potentially   take   over   the   company   but   no   one   wants   them   to.   artie   strikes   a   deal   with   them   that   they’d   get   their   position   if   they   help   him   out   in   the   process   ,   which   is   just   a   promotion   he   knows   he   deserves.   however   ,   they   can   lie   and   get   the   position   and   then   have   artie   fired   so   they   won’t   deal   with   him   anymore.   honestly   i’m   just   seeing   so   much   angst   from   this.

TWO.   on   the   run   pals   !!   finally   he   snaps   and   ends   up   accidentally   killing   his   father   and   the   first  person   he   runs   to   is   your   muse.   he   gets   caught   being   there   and   now   they’re   both   being   threatened   to   go   to   jail   so  he   nabs   them   and   they   take   off   for   the   hills.   if   you   want   more   angst   ,   he   could’ve   developed   a   power   in   the   midst   of   the   accident   so   now   your   muse   can   help   learn   to   use   it.

 ONE.   someone   who   was   in   her   life   from   the   beginning   before   she   got   her   memory   wiped.   they   could   try   to   help   her   discover   who   she   is   (   doesn’t   need   the   power   to   come   back   if   you   don’t   want   the   supernatural   aspect   )   and   rekindle   any   lost   connection   they   had.   i   picture   that   if   she   does   remember   ,   the   ministry   will   be   on   her   ass   again   so   they’ll   have   to   reside   in   the   bunker   she   had   before   getting   caught.

 ONE.   i   crave   the   plot   where   junghwa   ends   up   trusting   /   falling   for  (   depends   if   romantic   or   platonic   )   someone   who   is   actually   a   mutant.   the   literal   angst   that   will   come   from   this.   her   finding   out   the   truth   ,   hiding   them   from   the   ministry   ,   her   having   to   choose   between   her   uncle   or   the   person   she   truly   cares   for.

Oliver Lee Memorial State Park - Alamogordo, NM

We moved into a spot at this state park, just outside of Alamogordo, for the next 3 nights. Much to our surprise the site came with electric and water - that made life easier for us. This is a beautiful spot - nestled against the mountains and the desert blooms. We hope to do a little hiking and play another round of golf at Desert Lakes before we leave the area.

@waspabi // waspabi on AO3: their Harry Potter fic, Stately Homes of Wiltshire, was like, one of those fics I read and enjoyed at the time, and then as time went on I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It’s so, so clever in a non-flashy way. The plot is just, Auror Harry Potter visits Draco at the Malfoy Manor and sorts out some ghost stuff. But it’s SO funny, and there’s so much good details about DIY and historical preservations, and I love how the author uses the crumbling manor as a way of talking about like, the weight of family history and Draco’s family’s own Death Eater past - incredible.  And it’s so clear that the author loves british history and big old houses, but they’re capable of writing about history without fetishising or idealizing it. This is the sort of Harry Potter fic I WANT.

This was supposed to anchor Bucky. It did. It did. Every time. It always washed over him, it was like the breeze running through the trees outside and shaking out all the leaves and leaving the park nicely settled. Steve spoke, away went the doubts; they fell to the ground, and Bucky relaxed. Steve had the magic words to do this. You're the real hero, Buck. You.

It’s honestly one of the MOST astounding pieces of fiction I’ve ever read. It’s disturbing, so people should check the trigger warnings, but if people think they can handle it I highly, highly recommend reading it through without looking at ANY of the info and the tags. 

I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say that this fic like, taught me how to write. It taught me more than some of my real uni classes how literature works, how stories work, how you can use language and motifs to build a story around a central theme, how to build a story with an unreliable narrator, how to weave the past and the present together through thought and memory. How names are powerful tools. How to leverage what characters know against what the reader knows. It’s almost embarrassing to link this fic because I owe so, so much to it, but there you go.
