Engineering Software Compliance

The subject of compliance audit software has a special significance when it comes to engineering software. The main reason for this is due to the high price per seat such software and the resulting popular licensing model called concurrent or floating licenses. In the regular non-engineering software world, a certain number of licenses are purchased while there is no automated method of preventing the number of installations from exceeding the number of licenses. With a large number of software applications in use and many users, system administrators can easily lose track and find themselves out of compliance without intention. Vendor software audits on the premises can result in unplanned demands for the purchase of the overused licenses and also fines.

Software licencing management solution Flexlm License Server Software enables software manufacturers to restrict the amount of software seats made available to their consumers. Different licencing practises are supported by FLEXlm, including node locked and floating (also known as concurrent) licences.

DRM Solutions are another name for these kinds of software programmes (Digital Rights Management). SafeNet HASP, SafeNet RMS, and IBM LUM are other programmes with similar features.

Many different software companies, including ESRI, Autodesk, Mathworks, PTC, Ansys, Cadence, and others, use FLEXlm.

On Safenet's website, under the heading "Licensing and Management," you can obtain the Sentinel HASP and Sentinel RMS licence management tools. For the purpose of obtaining detailed licencing statistics reports, the OpenLM server easily integrates the two technologies. Sentinel HASP was once a "Aladdin" product.
