The color of illusions is Perfect Blue. Excuse me...who are you? As a member of a popular girl group tries to transition from singing to acting an obsessive fan pushes her over the edge, and she begins to lose her sense of reality. The animation was fantastic (even right from the beginning when we see her reflection in the train window), in an inteview included after the feature the director said they wanted the drawings to effectively flow well, and imma say mission accomplished. The jumps between the last performance with the group and her just after and throughout her singing career were nicely done, as was the increased sense of agitation/paranoia, the stalker’s growing obsession, and the blurred lines between her real life and that of the character she’s playing for a tv show (at least to her, and because of that to the audience). Watching Rumi help Mima become acquainted with the internet was weird, but it’s from 1997 so 🤷🏼‍♀️. The soundtrack was really good; and the death scenes, aside from being a bit bloody, were crazy and so well animated.
