This is the entry I drew for DeviantArt's "The Holi Mandala Contest". 🏵️✨ I was inspired by the three following things to draw this mandala:

👉My indigenous heritage: My great-great-grandmother, Petrona, was a descendant of indigenous people. She wore her hair in an ankle-length braid and used to tie it over her head to smuggle things across the border, lol. She liked to smoke chala leaf tobacco and her great-grandchildren say she was extremely serious, silent, and that I'm very much like her in appearance. 😊

👉Some of my favorite tarot cards: My paternal grandmother used to read them when I was little and I continue the family tradition since then. 🔮 The cards featured in this mandala are: The World, The Wheel of Fortune, The Sun, The Moon, The Devil, The Magician, The Star, and Death.

👉My meditative practices: I've been meditating for about 20 years and the color palette I picked for this mandala corresponds to the colors of the human Chakra/Energy Centers. 🌈 The Hindu prayer mala beads that appear on it were also inspired by my own set of mala beads, which first belonged to a tibetan monk, and that I was gifted by a kind Tumblr user many years ago. 📿

I've been drawing mandalas since I was a teenager because I've always been fascinated by Hindu culture (the best meditative techniques I've learned come from Hindu and Tibetan cultures) and mandalas are also super relaxing to create and decorate. 🌼

Mandalas are used as a tool for contemplation and meditation, so here's a little explanation of the meaning behind each symbol drawn in the different "gates" (circles/sections) of this one:

🕉️1st Gate (center): The World Card. The Universe. The third eye chakra. The eye that perceives the universe so it can exist. Throat chakra. The power of speech and thought. I think, therefore I am. The chakra at the top of the head. The connection to the whole. The separate individual. Identity. The Self.

🕉️2nd Gate: The Wheel of Fortune Card. Time. Seasons. Inevitable changes. Growth. Movement. The solar system. The Gods of my ancestors. Emotions. Luck. Opposites coexisting as part of a whole.

🕉️3rd Gate: The cards waiting to be turned over. Destiny. The future. What is hidden.

🕉️4th Gate: The flames of Spirit. Creativity. Inspiration. Creation. Destruction. Purification. The sparkle of life.

🕉️5th Gate: My ancestors. The Devil Card. Protection. Strength. Support. Slaves who break their chains and raise their hands from the abyss, setting fire to the darkness. Survival instinct. Determination. The will to carry on.

🕉️6th Gate: The Magician card. The Star card. As above, so below. Manifestation. The morning star appearing in the sky at sunrise and sunset. Liminal spaces. Healing. Miracles. Achieving the impossible. Guides pointing the right way.

🕉️7th Gate: Feathers symbolizing freedom (flying high like a bird) of the mind and spirit (indigo and blue) and feathers symbolizing freedom of the body (red and orange).

🕉️8th Gate: Death Card. Material world/physical plane. Inevitability of change. Transformation. Humanity. The planet earth. Unity. Equality. Connection. We're different, yet we're all the same.

🕉️9th Gate: The laws of nature. Balance. Nothing can exist in the absence of its opposite. Cosmic protection and order. Containment. Harmony between instinct and reason. The Hindu prayer mala beads start the universe in the tassel section and end it when it completes its turn. Ouroboros, the snake that bites its own tail. The cycle of reincarnation. The beyond.

Ugh I’m NOT ready for this new gear. Saw the pic of the prototype gear and I can’t help but shudder at the mere thought of what the actual kit will look like once a design has been decided on. Oh God I hope they don’t make them wear Petronas green 😵‍💫😵‍💫

I checked out the adidas website, the mens’s training and track pants are nice (for loafing bts in the garage or whatever) I can see Bono, Mike and Jallison sporting those if given the right sizes to show off those magnificent dumptrucks.

I need to be able to sit back and disrespectfully indulge in the Mercedes cake display. Of course this will only work if given the right shirt, which may not manifest keeping my fingers crossed 🤞🏾🤞🏾

The Tommy Hilfiger and Hugo Boss gear are nice, classy and brought about thoughts of absolute filth when it came to the fit on Bono, Mike and Jallison. How are we gonna get proper podium wet tshirt contests with the adidas gear?! Make it make sense.

Why: while Adidas is a big company with a long history and they worked with several teams in many different sports, they only do athleisure wear. Think of a crossover between tracksuits, Birkenstocks, jockey hats and designer bags worn by the hipsters hanging out in the trendiest organic coffee shops of major cities if you wish to understand athleisure.

Tommy Hilfiger (and to an extent Hugo Boss before them) are a business casual wear brand. Think jeans with business jackets, formal t-shirts, chinos, brogues, knitwear. Basically, largely corporate wear that’s comfortable and fashionable with some fun and trendy outfits to appeal to those below 40 too. The team outfit they created reflects this ethos perfectly. The button-up shirt is beautifully designed and looks absolutely great on every team member, irrespective of gender or shape; the trousers are well-fitted to accommodate Bono, Mike and Jallison’s voluptuous bottoms; the jackets/jumpers designs have been tasteful and in luxe-looking fabrics; they have dressed the team members in lovely outfits even outside the paddock. The above are not easily achievable by an athleisure wear brand.

So, people, I AM SCARED! I am scared that they’ll add some shitty Adidas stripes on the shirt; design some long t-shirts covering Bono’s sensational ass; introduce cheap looking fabrics; put the sponsor logos in weird places; make them wear green to honour Petronas etc.

After a solid first outing on his Yamaha YZR-M1 in front of his home fans at the British Grand Prix, Jake Dixon will contest one more round in the MotoGP class at Aragon for PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team alongside Valentino Rossi. In turn, John McPhee will get his chance at graduation, stepping up inside the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing outfit from Moto3 to Moto2 to sample the Kalex machine for the first time in his career. He will ride alongside Xavi Vierge who will be taking part in his third home race of the season. This allows the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing Moto3 squad to give an opportunity to new talent in the form of Malaysian FIM CEV talent cup rider Syarifuddin Azman (Damok). The Moto3 Junior World Championship rider and race winner has shown promise this season and this opportunity to join the Moto3 grid alongside Darryn Binder presents the perfect springboard for another aspiring Grand Prix rider to make his World Championship debut. The Grand Prix of Aragon will get underway on Friday 10 September. Razlan Razali The current dynamic status of the team allows some exciting opportunities for our riders and also new talent. We were satisfied with Jake’s MotoGP debut at the British Grand Prix so want to give him the opportunity to continue his learning in the MotoGP class in Aragon. This of course leaves a space in his seat in Moto2 which we wanted to give to John, who will make his Moto2 debut. Subsequently, this leaves a perfect platform for us to lend his seat to Syarifuddin Azman from the FIM CEV. Azman won one round in Barcelona of the FIM CEV, and I think it’s a great chance for him to gain experience to determine his level in the Moto3 World Championship. We are excited by the prospect of giving exposure to our young riders and we wish them all the best.

John McPhee It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to try the Moto2 bike in Aragon. As with every rider, it’s their dream to progress through the categories, and I feel like I am at the level, and have the ability to make this step up to Moto2. Of course, the challenge will be extremely difficult because it’s my first time ever racing a big bike, with my only real experience being 15 laps of Barcelona in 2019 which was a ‘thank you’ from the team after my win at Le Mans. I’m really excited and motivated for the challenge and really looking forward to trying the bike. There’s no real expectation, I’m just going to enjoy it a lot and feel like if I can improve session by session and keep closing the gap with the fastest riders, then this will be a job well done.
