hii i saw you posting about your job and you work with code/data, right?? do you mind explaining a little bit of what you do? i’m a data scientist and i get excited to find fellow computer/data ppl in the wild. (also i’m having a bit of a career crisis and have been wondering what else i could do with my skills lol)
omg hello fellow data person <3 i feel like there’s surprisingly few of us around here (in comparison to the lawyer population of f1blr lol). thinking carefully abt how to explain my job w/o self doxxing akdhskhd. the short answer is i do something different on a monthly (if not weekly) basis basically 😭
(the doing something different all the time is actually kind of wonderful for me personally; when im sick of a project i know ill have like maximum another month of working on it all the time and then im free.)
the long answer is…
i work in the public sector on a research team. we do a LOT of things for only being like. a dozen people. *i* do a lot of things. i work a ton with demographic data, and mobility data, and GIS data (usually all together), to name a few bits and bobs, which is fun. i do a lot of what we call foundational research, which is like. maintaining and improving datasets/databases and tools for quick requests and easy periodic updates for dashboards/reports/etc. i don’t have the subject area expertise/background most of my coworkers have (lots of phds in a field i LOATHED in undergrad lmfao), but i do eat sleep breathe python, so. i ask a lot of silly questions abt acronyms and concepts, and in return they get the analysis they wanted about 10 hours earlier than they expected.
technically speaking i mostly work with python, sql, arcgis, and i guess excel if you wanna count that (although when i have to use excel i get grumpy). i get to write memos w my cute little data visualizations and maps sometimes, and contribute to reports and presentations, but mostly i put out fires, keep the data im responsible for up to date and thriving (i think im at like. four Very Different datasets im in charge of now?? maybe five actually), and fulfill various pull requests
idk what you do rn anon but having had experience in data science in finance… i like this uhhh so much better. i can’t even talk abt the most fun bits of my job bc they’re the most specific LOL but idk in finance i was never gonna be switching between exploring the spatial logic of shifts in employment numbers over time and proving [redacted federal agency’s Very Very Well Known Household Name numbers] wrong to their faces, much less in a two week span.
and at the end of the day i can walk around town and point to physical shit like “oh yeah i helped make this project happen, and i proved the usefulness of This project, and—” (as one mutual who shall not be named knows bc i literally worked on a project that took away their street parking LOL) while also knowing that i’m like. contributing to tangibly helping people (the street parking disappeared for BIKE LANES. OK.)
also the benefits are great. i will shill so hard for government vacation benefits lol. but i also have a lot of friends in data science that do very different things from me, so if you ever wanna slide in the dms i can talk more specifically abt that and more specifically abt what i do. please feel free!!

Microwave Electronics Laboratory: Future communication & remote sensing systems
Wireless communication and remote sensing play an important role in the modern society and almost everyone is using such systems every day. Typical examples are mobile phones, wireless internet connectivity, radio and TV broadcasting, and wireless networks at home or public areas.
Thanks to the rapid development in the semiconductor technology, driven by the computer industry, such microwave systems can be produced in large quantity at a low cost per unit, making it affordable for most people all over the world.
At the Microwave Electronics Laboratory, we focus on application driven research on high-speed electronic components, circuits and systems for future communication and remote sensing applications. The research spans frequencies from below 1 GHz to 500 GHz. Our main research areas are within wireless high speed digital communication, sensors such as radar systems and radiometers, and microwave heating. We demonstrate innovative microwave components and circuits in our own fabrication lab, the Nanofabrication Laboratory at MC2, or at external cooperation partners/foundries. We characterize our components and circuits in our measurement laboratory.
Most of our work is project oriented together with other universities, companies and institutes, where the Microwave Electronic Laboratory is responsible for hardware research and development. In addition, we contribute to an extensive educational programme including Master of Science and PhD level.
Due to the increasing data traffic in the mobile communication infrastructure, driven by consumer applications such as smartphones and wireless connectivity, new innovative solutions for the backhaul communication are needed.
We design integrated circuits based on silicon, and III-V technologies, for future system applications aiming at high data rate wireless and fiber communication, and remote sensing. Our main projects are circuit design and fabrication for high data rate communication aiming at bitrates well above 10 Gbps utilizing unused spectrum at 70-86, 120, 145 and 220 GHz, and THz imaging systems utilizing highly integrated multipixel sensors. By using the most advanced semiconductor technologies available today we can practically demonstrate circuits with unique functionality aiming at new system applications. High efficiency microwave power amplifiers
Microwave power amplifiers dominate the mobile network overall energy consumption. Our research is therefore focused on different techniques for improving the electrical efficiency of microwave high power amplifiers and transmitters for wireless infrastructure applications. A cross-disciplinary approach is used where fundamental research on high efficiency switched mode power amplifier circuit design is combined with research on novel transmitter architectures incorporating advanced digital signal processing methods and using unique widebandgap components developed at MC2.
This research is performed in close collaboration with researchers at the Department of Electrical Engineering. VLSI Systems
Electronics based on integrated circuits (ICs), also known in popular science as microchips or semiconductors, is an indispensable technology which pervades our society. ICs of today can contain several hundred billion transistors and while this level of integration offers unprecedented levels of (highly desired) system functionality, the integration of that many devices makes the implementation work of the VLSI designers very challenging. Stringent performance targets and strict budgets on power dissipation and development time are examples of different conflicting design goals that VLSI designers often struggle to reconcile.
The VLSI Systems group performs research on circuits, architectures and design approaches of IC-based electronic systems with the goal of enabling efficient implementation of communication and computing systems. Our activities mainly target power-efficient digital and mixed-signal CMOS circuits and we use CMOS integrated circuits and advanced FPGA systems to demonstrate our research.

Shaastra, IIT-M, is an annual student run technical festival of the IIT-M (Indian Institute of Technology, Madras), wherein they dedicated a few days to move out of the study curriculum to interface and embrace the latest technological thoughts & practices from across the globe. They call global subject matter experts to talk, give presentations, interact with students and faculties, bring their knowledge and practical case studies to the table, they also organize workshops, competitions, exhibitions, apart from cultural program and entertainment. The festival is organized on global standards and has earned an ISO 9001:2015 certification too.
Within the Shaastra 2025 festival, there was yet another chapter of Future Cities Summit (FCS) this year, which shows the commitment of the festival towards embracing the hi-tech future and the technological advancements of tomorrow. FCS had been planned to explore and examine multidimensional approach towards the urban world of future, which will have all elements of energy, economy, transport & mobility, innovation & technologies like AI, AR, VR, ML, IoT, IT & ITES etc. apart form the livability and sustainability.
This year’s focus included subjects like Technology, AI and Data Integration, Legal and Ethical Frameworks for Smart Cities, Future of Urban Transportation, Cultural Preservation and Urban Development, Resilient Infrastructure and Climate Adaptation, and Renewable Energy Integration in Urban Environments.
Vaidic Srijan got an invite to speak in under the Resilient Infrastructure and Climate Adaptation domain, with our evidence-based case studies and success stories and the topic given to us was “Healthy Natural Resources for Sustainable Cities”. The 30 minutes presentation followed by Q&A session was conducted by Madhukar Swayambhu, Cofounder & research head of Vaidic Srijan LLP, and the case study of Moradabad Amrit Sarovars, was discussed in detail on how restoring the health of the natural Waterbodies in the Brass Capital of the country transformed the overall health, happiness and prosperity index of the city. How the urban flooding has been eradicated, Ground Water recharge has started happening, the Air Quality index has been transformed from worst in the state to healthy breathable Air, biodiversity conservation has happened, post-monsoon vector borne diseases outbreak has been mitigated and many awards and accolades have been earned by the city.
Bottom line discussed and described during the session was, the conventional approach of “cleaning” the Waterbodies is no solution, but simply postponement of the problem. A holistic and sustainable approach is the “restore the health” of the Waterbodies, since they are the ‘ecosystem service providers’ to their respective vicinities, not a mere reservoir or pool of Water. Another interesting aspect was to transform the Waterbody rejuvenation projects from “expense” to “revenue” through enabling them to earn the environmental credits (Water, Carbon, Sanitation, Emission and Biodiversity), which are tradeable commodities in the global markets.
The discussion was followed by a very rich and interactive Q&A session too.
The summit was graced by the presence of other eminent speaker from across the globe including Mr. Kok Chin Tay, the Chairman of the Smart Cities Network (a network of innovative solution and services providers for smart cities) and the Executive Director (ASEAN) for Smart Cities Council, Ms. Suchismita Goswami, is a PhD fellow from the Global Health Section at the Department of Public Health, University of Copenhagen, Dr. Chinmay Hedge is the CEO and Co-Founder of Astrikos AI, an organization that delivers Actionable (Smart) IoT-driven Real-time Insights for Smart Cities, Mr. Ian Chew is the sole Founder of Greenie Web – an award winning Singapore ClimateTech startup that creates low-carbon computer code, Ms. Aswathy Dilip is the South Asia Director of Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), Prof. Subir Sachdev, Herchel Smith Professor of Physics. Newsweek CEO Dev Pragad: Championing Change and Innovation in Media
Few stories capture the evolution of entrepreneurial journalism as vividly as that of Newsweek. From its origins during the Great Depression and World War II, through its formative years in the 1960s and pivotal coverage of the Watergate scandal, Newsweek has long been a cornerstone of American media. However, by the dawn of the 21st century, the publication faced significant hurdles: financial instability, shrinking readership, and a damaged reputation.
Tumblr media
When Dev Pragad became CEO of Newsweek, he inherited a publication struggling to adapt to the digital age. Determined to revitalize the iconic brand, Pragad set out to lead Newsweek into a new era, focusing on digital innovation, expanding its readership, and upholding modern standards of journalism.
“I was absolutely captivated by the brand’s rich history,” Pragad told The CEO Magazine. “Yet, it needed a complete overhaul. The challenge of transforming such a storied publication into a modern digital entity was incredibly motivating.”
With a background in computer science, electrical engineering, and a PhD specializing in mobile internet, Newsweek CEO Dev Pragad utilized his technical expertise and media experience to spearhead the publication’s revival.
“I had a clear vision of what Newsweek could become with significant investment in our people, a digital overhaul, and a commitment to transparency,” Pragad said. “That vision energized me.”
Reviving Newsweek’s legacy of “explaining, expounding, and clarifying divergent opinions around important news,” the publication now engages readers across the political spectrum. It remains steadfast in its commitment to trustworthiness, authenticity, and inclusivity, fostering respectful debate and embracing diverse viewpoints. This digital-first approach has driven Newsweek’s audience growth from eight million to 100 million in just three years.
Under Pragad’s leadership, Newsweek has impacted not only its readership but also businesses, governments, and community leaders worldwide.
To realize his vision, Pragad implemented a comprehensive strategy focusing on purpose, opportunity, and change. “Success requires a clear purpose; it’s the compass that guides you,” he explained.
“We scrutinized every aspect of the business and crafted a mission statement to guide our editorial and organizational efforts. This was a critical moment for us.”
Pragad identified a major opportunity in expanding Newsweek’s digital footprint, attracting partnerships with top companies like Google, Engine Media, Statista, and actor Chris Evans’s ‘A Starting Point.’
“That was particularly exciting,” Pragad said. “Chris and his partner Mark Kassan shared our mission of bringing together diverse viewpoints, which aligned perfectly with our goals.”
The partnership with Statista was another highlight for Pragad. “Working with Statista allowed us to launch influential projects like hospital rankings. Such initiatives add real value to society.”
Pragad’s engaging discussion with Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel also garnered widespread acclaim. Bancel’s account of Moderna’s transformation from a struggling entity to a key player in combating COVID-19 reflected responsible and innovative leadership.
The third element of Pragad’s strategy—embracing ambitious change—proved both challenging and essential. “In a fast-evolving world, we must be champions of change,” he said. “Newsweek needed a complete transformation to thrive in a digital-first landscape.”
Pragad adopted the Japanese concept of kaizen, or continuous improvement, as a core value driving Newsweek’s progress.
The turnaround at Newsweek was recently highlighted in a Harvard Business School case study, focusing on the publication’s digital transformation and the leadership decisions that contributed to its success.
“It’s an honor to collaborate with Harvard Business School,” Pragad remarked. “We appreciate their support, strategy sessions, and recognition of our hard work.”
Additionally, Pragad’s team employed a strategy based on best-in-class objectives and key results, enabling Newsweek to prioritize impactful journalism, invest in its core product, build its newsroom, and achieve sustainable revenue growth.
Newsweek CEO Dev Pragad’s dedication, resilience, and strategic framework have facilitated one of the most remarkable comebacks in publishing history. “Our goal is for Newsweek to be a leading and influential publication globally,” he stated.
“We are committed to rapid growth by leveraging new technologies and embracing innovation. We aim to drive change through our readership, foster debate, amplify diverse voices, and champion diversity and equality in the workplace.
“We want Newsweek to endure for many decades to come. We are on a solid path to achieving that goal, and my passion is to ensure our continued success.”

Can electrical engineering students choose software sector as career?
Tumblr media
Career in Software Sector for Electrical Engineer
Electrical engineering is a broad discipline, opening the doors to many different specializations. Likewise, computer science has many different focuses such as software engineering from top engineering colleges in Jaipur. While these are typically two distinct focuses, you may wonder if it is possible to become a software engineer while pursuing electrical engineering academically or later in your career.
Can An Electrical Engineer Be A Software Engineer?
An electrical engineer can be a software engineer, because the disciplines and fields overlap in many work environments. Electrical engineering focuses on researching, designing, developing, and installing physical, electrical systems and their components. On the other hand, software engineering centres on researching, designing, developing, and running non-tangible computer programs.
Although these are distinct programs, electrical engineers who have software development skills are more desirable than those with only engineering degrees. As long as you have programming and computing courses to showcase proficiency, employers recognize your math may be at a higher level than most software engineers of best private engineering colleges in Jaipur.
What Do You Need To Be A Software Engineer?
To become a software engineer, you will need an undergraduate degree in software engineering. Alternatively, you can complete a degree in computer engineering, computer science, or computer programming.
Although many software engineers enter the job market with only an undergraduate degree, others find higher paying positions by pursuing higher academic degrees or completing short certifications.
How to Become A Software Engineer?
You may decide to pursue software engineering courses coupled with another academic discipline, such as electrical engineering. This way, you can broaden the scope of your knowledge and skills.
After your undergraduate degree, you can either pursue higher academic levels (Masters or PhD), you can obtain field experience and put together a portfolio of important projects, or obtain certifications. Certifications may be particularly important if students of best engineering colleges in Jaipur are coming from an electrical engineering background, to clearly display your skill.
Popular certifications include Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional, Certified Software Development Professional, Certified Web Development Professional, Certified Management Professional, International Software Testing Qualifications Board, Certified Associate in Software Testing, Computer Education & Technology Promotion Association, Certified Software Testing Engineer, etc.
After gathering all your qualifications, you can find an excellent job in almost any domain including communications networks, computers, AI and robotics, commerce, insurance, banking, and healthcare.

There are certain courses that may be of interest including Object-Oriented Programming, Project Management, Algorithm Design and Analysis, Operating Systems, Software Design, Software Testing, Mission Critical Systems, Programming Languages, Mobile App Development, Web Programming/Web Design, Artificial Intelligence or Robotics, Data Analysis and Processing, UI/UX Development, Cyber Security, etc.
What Is Harder Computer Engineering Or Electrical Engineering?
Electrical engineering is a broad discipline and involves a great amount of abstract thinking. Some people may find this more difficult, as working with unseen components is complex. Computer engineers of BTech colleges Jaipur need to learn components computer science to research, design, and build efficient computer systems.
Hardware engineers must know the fundamental concepts of electrical engineering. Software engineers can benefit from knowledge in signal processing and other concepts of electrical engineering, but it is not a necessity. Therefore, computer engineering often focuses more on practical and concrete work than electrical engineering.
What Is Better Electrical Engineering Or Software Engineering?
If you are looking for a high number of available jobs, job stability and advancement opportunities, it is best to choose software engineering. Research has been conducted by the experts of best BTech colleges in Jaipur which shows that the job market will grow 22% between 2020 and 2030, offering millions more software engineering jobs. On the other hand, electrical engineering offers modest or average growth in the same period. They predict 7% growth between 2020 and 2030, providing thousands more electrical engineering jobs.
On top of that, software engineers often choose to complete certifications in order to obtain a specialized position. However, many electrical engineers need to complete a graduate degree to obtain specialized jobs or acquire more responsibility. Since software engineering may offer better job opportunities from similar amounts of work, software engineering may be a better practical choice.
Who Earns More Software Engineer Or Electrical Engineer?
Software engineers earn more on average than electrical engineers, at entry-level jobs. Salaries do increase depending on employer, specialization, expertise, and experience.
