Black Lives Matter

At Choice of Games, we uphold the self-evident—yet surprisingly controversial—idea that anyone can be a hero. It should not matter if you are male, female, or non-binary; gay, straight, bi, or just plain queer; cis or trans; black, white, or brown. Due to its history of structural racism, the egalitarianism that we espouse is not reality in America.

Let us be clear: Black Lives Matter.

George Floyd. Breonna Taylor. Ahmaud Arbery. Adama Traoré. João Pedro Matos Pinto.

These names haunt us, as they should haunt you. And these are only a few recent victims of white supremacy and police brutality.

Over the course of the past week, police officers and other security forces have committed disproportionate, illegal, and immoral acts of violence on protesters demanding accountability for the police.

This comes at a dire time in the history of the United States, when our president, unable to acknowledge the possibility of defeat, is willing to jettison democracy in favor of his own ego. We at Choice of Games have real concerns that if these protests fail to effect change, there will not be an election in November.

We support four specific short-term demands:

1. An end to qualified immunity for law enforcement.

2. An end to the sale of military equipment to law enforcement.

3. An end to the use of tear gas and other chemical weapons.

4. The creation of a national database of law enforcement officers dismissed for misconduct, that would prevent those officers from being rehired by another department.

Yet these demands only address the symptoms; they will not cure the disease. The entire United States criminal justice system must be reimagined.

We encourage everyone that can to attend a protest—socially distanced and nonviolent. If you can’t protest, we encourage you to donate money to bail funds and other community organizations pushing for police reform; you can even stream this YouTube channel, whose advertising revenue will support bail funds and other organizations. If you can’t donate money, we ask that you donate your time by calling your elected representatives—from your city councilmembers, to your state representatives, to your Congressional representatives—and express your outrage at the conduct of police and other security personnel.

Because we believe that this moment requires more than words, Choice of Games LLC and Hosted Games LLC will each be donating $10,000 to this collective bail fund, which will split the money between more than seventy community organizations across the country.

Now is the time for all of us to be heroes.

Vishesh vowed that all humans should be destroyed and only those who cared for Mother Earth should remain, but then Vishesh met a human missionary named Rebecca and fell in love. Of course, her visit to the Bay of the Bengal was short lived, but little did Vishesh know that Rebecca had left with more then just his heart. Seema was born nine months later and for years knew nothing of her father, nor that fact that she was part Naga until she began to shape-shift into a serpent at the age of thirteen. Frightened at what her daughter was, Rebecca returned to the Bay of the Bengal, searching both India and Bangladesh only to find that out that Vishesh had died shortly after she had left the Sundarbans. Her search took her to a village that could not be found on a map, with little over fifty people living in the area. When she ask for Vishesh, she was told that he had died shortly after Seema had been born. As the delta continued to deteriorate, tigers had forced their way into the village, as their food supply was dwindling. He, and three others had been attacked, there had been nothing left to bury. The elders told Rebecca the truth about her daughter and begged her to leave Seema with them, as she was the rightful leader of their tribe, but Rebecca would not. Instead she returned to America and sent her daughter to Atlas Academy, but even there no one had the answers to help Seema. Tired of not knowing who she truly was, or how to control her powers, Seema convinced her mother to let her return to the Sundarbans where she joined the Naga Village.

Hi everyone! My name is Reagan Pinto. I am a senior at The College of New Jersey majoring in Accounting. For this video, I will be talking about the keyword white supremacy, which is pretty relevant to the events that have recently occurred in Charlottesville this past week.

First, I want to quickly describe the unfortunate series of events that took place on August 12th in Charlottesville, Virginia. For those who don’t know, a “Unite the Right” rally was scheduled for August 12th to protest the removal of a Confederate icon’s statue. White supremacists gathered on Saturday and clashed with counter-demonstrators. Later that afternoon, a car plowed into a crowd of anti-racist protestors, killing 32-year-old Heather Heyer and injuring at least 19 others.

Jessie Daniels describes in her book Cyber Racism: White Supremacy Online and the New Attack on Civil Rights that white supremacy is “a central organizing principle of social life rather than merely an isolated social movement.” Because of advancements in digital media, it is much more common to come across white supremacist notions online. You cannot avoid finding something on the Internet that is derogatory or offensive towards different cultural groups. White supremacy, as a result, informs our understanding of society, class, race and gender.

When talking about white supremacy, Internet accessibility is quite dangerous. The Internet is overloaded with white supremacist discourse “for those committed to producing it and increases its availability to those interested in reading it.” (pg. 6). It is important to remember the fact that no one is born a white supremacist or a racist. This is an ugly, learned behavior which is commonly facilitated through white supremacy online. Racial comments made online can provoke violence, harassment, and racial terror onto living human beings. Though the tragedy in Charlottesville was not directly a product of white supremacy online, tensions on both sides have been heightened for years. Instead of talking about how we can get our country in a position to benefit us all, we pick sides like we’re fighting a war: white supremacists vs. everyone else, republicans vs. democrats, whites vs. blacks. There’s always someone to blame: some other cultural group, some other race. Someone to be mad at. A place for you to pick a side. But at our core, we are one human race. I know this is easier said than realized, but in a world filled with open articulation of racial hatred, unity may be the answer.

Take a look at the all-new 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback, and if you’re old enough, you might fondly flashback to the 1970s, when the Civic CVCC first debuted in America. First gen Civics also featured a transverse mounted engine with front-wheel drive (virtually non-existent technology in the 70s), fully independent suspension a peppy four-cylinder engine.

The fuel sipping Civic earned its stripes as an urban commuter, though rust issues and safety concerns would ultimately force Honda to address those issues head on.

Travel through the decades that followed the 70s, and the Civic grew in popularity and in size. In LX, EX, and EX-L Navi models, EPA ratings of 31/40/34 mpg (city/highway/combined) for CVT-equipped models, and 30/39/33 mpg for the LX with manual transmission put the 5-door Honda Civic Hatchback at the top of its class for fuel economy ratings. The Sport and Sport Touring models equipped with the CVT are rated at 30/36/32 mpg, and the Sport with manual transmission is rated at 30/39/33 mpg.

Available on LX, EX and EX-L Navi trims is the “Honda Sensing” suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies, which includes Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) Forward Collision Warning integrated with CMBS, Lane Keeping Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Lane Departure Warning integrated with RDM and Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow. Current Honda models are always highly rated in U.S. Government and Insurance Industry crash testing. With this comprehensive suite of safety tech, and with Civic’s rigid “ACE” unibody architecture, expect high ratings for all Civic models, including the 2017 Hatchback. A bit more on ACE, which allows large car crash performance in the smaller Civic footprint. ACE channels frontal crash energy to both upper and lower structural elements, including the floor frame rails, side sills and A-pillars. The ACE structure also features “Crash Stroke” technology. With the Crash Stroke structure, in a frontal collision the lower section of the front vehicle frame hinges to direct the engine down and rearward, helping direct crash energy into the vehicle’s floor while also minimizing cabin intrusion. Very impressive.

On the road, the Civic Hatchback really excels. In 1973, Civic sported a then advanced MacPherson front strut/rear tube shock fully independent suspension. Today’s Civic Hatchback also features high-tech underpinnings — also with a MacPherson strut front suspension, multi-link rear suspension, front and rear sway bars, and variable ratio electric power steering. Power from the 1.5-liter turbo four comes on smoothly and authoritatively, without the sudden rush sometimes associated with on-boost turbocharger performance. And yes, you can feel the difference in horsepower and torque between base and Sport models. The Civic platform has long been a favorite, and I do mean favorite, for tuners who love Japanese cars. Think of it as a Japanese BMW, which is quite a compliment. It looks great, has awesome road dynamics, has an endless supply of go-fast and handle-well goodies available in the aftermarket, and is a Honda, which means you can purchase this tunable platform without giving up birthrights to your first born.
