I wanted her to be emotionless in all the pictures though I tend to do that anyway. While I was clearing out a scav hideout I was like "oh god not the red chair!" but there were no good sitting poses, I don't use mods or any fancy photomode addons, just pure vanilla game for all, hairs, clothes, settings, poses, etc. I realise Olive looks a bit more like Ophelia with the "merc" outfit I gave her and I realise her hair was slightly blonde as opposed to white like I thought but I like it, I like to imagine she is younger and resembles ophelia a little more despite being her aunt. The sinner/lethal tattoo definitely suits her 💀I wish I could have found some sort of graveyard in the desert but alas there is just sand. I thought the Voodoo Boys chapel seemed a bit like the psp meetinghouse/ 13 Dead End Lane house vibes. Of course Olive as a merc doesn't even think twice about killing no matter who is her target and I think the job suits her despite her motivations always being mysterious and hidden. I like to imagine she is still looking for Grim in this world. I'm not sure who I want to do next, I can't do Brandi because my V is loaded already, can't do any male characters (don't think you can change the gender but I don't want to for this playthrough anyway), and can't do any aliens unless I use a mod for green skin or photoshop it. I was thinking maybe Cassandra or Lilith, or a corpo Mary Sue.

monday - tuesday

our friend has gone now...

sad to see him go, like i said i would be, we spent a long time together today, we drove around for like 3 hours going around the city, just looking at stuff, letting him experience the vegas hellscape, when we were also w/ my gf we went to a nice cafe in chinatown, she also went to get a kpop cd at a kpop store cuz she's really into this group called ateez, and loves seonghwa, so she got his special cd. she is super happy about it. never before has she been into a kpop group, it's really cute/sweet to see her be so dorky about something new. it makes me happy. it also makes me feel kind of sad, or something, like sad i can't be like that for her, but that's me being crazy and jealous in a way, like i can't be a symbol, but it's better to be a thing. i am just insane.

anyway, going around the city, i had my friend go into the orleans casino and look around, just because it's such a weird place, and he hadn't gone into a vegas casino yet, so it's just something i had him do to experience like, how sad this place can feel i guess, plus he writes too so maybe that'll give him somewhere to think about, that kinda thing. i took some pix in there on my psp cam:

the sky was so beautiful as we were leaving the orleans, the place is like hell but there's some really lovely sunsets. i need to get my reg camera battery'd up so i can take nice pics again.

becuz i took kind of unflattering / uggy pics with the psp camera i took front facing pics with the computer webcam... look at this, i think this is what i really look like, actually, or like, kinda, it mostly looks like the mirror selfies except i am more messy looking rn... but a diary is for all these wastes of air/thought so look. if you are looking. whoever is looking. i think i am not as rat-y as the psp pics:

anyway... what else. well, we got lost during the drive a bit, which made me panic. he said some interesting stuff, among those things was how the city reminded him of toronto in places, the desolation + the isolation, specific streets, it made him kind of sad, because he didn't want to go back home, and already he felt it returning to him. sad world!!!

when we got lost it was because there's some streets that are named after other streets, just kind of confusing and nonsense city planning. he talked about how driving an automatic car made it feel like cruising through an apocalypse, how a manual car would make the panic more palpable, the city was super anesthetized to him. it is that kind of place. even the confusion of getting lost was like, chill, and it was kind of a situation where we just had to reorient and go straight a while. he got to see places i grew up/spent years around, which idk if that's ever interesting for anyone, but it's always interesting to me to see others seeing that.

here's the thing i found that's super cool, to me, another bunch of things that seem super ripe for just ripping, and things i feel like i've seen ripped already by some bands i like from a book called the magic box:

reminds me of so much white belt graphic design...like #wow #whoa.

speaking of white belt, i listened to this album again today:

it is a classic, such a good drum sound, such great melodies on the synths/keyboards, and super crazy guitar sounds. it's got an almost no-wave-y thing going on with the playing at times, it veer rhode island noise rock almost but remains oddly tethered to hardcore riffing in a sick way. as well, the atmosphere/occasion/space the record drums up is so unique, a cold thing nearly but it's still rather warm, not sci fi but speaks to like, digital alienation in a way, the voice so far off, the dance parts so common are also like, only just parts, you know, the songs are made fragmentary which is normal for whitebelt stuff but it's employed differently by each band, whether they know it or not, in tensions of mania or alienation, passion or a floaty-ness, this is the tension of mania and distance, of freaking out and the inability to freak out, i think, the melodies are so strong they form a buffer around the freakouts, cocoons almost, maybe.

i also keep thinking about that guy from last night, how sad he makes me. and tomorrow, i will maybe feel something sad, we're taking my gf's brother to this one piece collab cafe thing out here. i hope that is fun but he can make things really tragic kind of, accidentally even.

anyway, the sun's coming up, i really must be getting to sleep so:

Something you guys might appreciate is that for the Compile Gallery discs I converted the BMP files into PNGs (same for AVIs to MP4s) and put them in a separate folders. Most casual fans might want to access the folders for that reason.

There’s also some antiquated files, I can’t open them. Most of them are in the omake and OMAKE folders.

Have at it. I suggest the Compile Gallery folders most of all, enjoy it, those two alone costed me between 500-to-700 USD and the collection isn’t even complete, there’s still Compile Gallery 2+, which holds artworks concept art like Doppelganger Arle with a scythe, seems to be behind-the-scenes based. Please contact us if you have Compile Gallery 2+. We don’t have to have the disc, just all of the contents.

Did you know there are 4 art styles for Puyo Puyo~n official renders?

Did you know there are high quality battle sprites for everyone but Doppel? I could be wrong because I don’t play Yo~n. It’s higher quality then the Spriters’ Resource has at any rate.

Did you know Ragnus has a set of battle sprites? Possibly meaning he got cut for and unknown reason? (Get on it The Cutting Room Floor!)

Are you a mermaid?: Maybe... I like mermaids, but I don’t think I’d want to be one

Your play style: At the moment it’s maxi’s match for TS2 and TS4, but I like alpha for TS3. I enjoy all styles and experiment a lot. I think I’ve finally settled on a style for TS4 that I like. 

Your Simself picture:

Uhhh I don’t have a simself, at least not anymore. The last time I made one was in TS2 12+ years ago. 

Stories or gameplay, builds, lookbooks, edits or CC: For me it’s definitely gameplay + building/decorating. I’m crap at screenshots and editing so that rules out pretty much everything else lol. Maybe one day I’d like to do stories since writing is a hobby of mine, buuut I’m not sure how that would translate into sims storytelling. 

Your favourite age state: Depends 100% on the game, but I really love toddlers and children... just not in TS4. Toddlers are fun, but kids are so boring because there’s not much to do. :/

Your favourite season: AUTUMN. I love winter IRL, but I feel like autumn is a nice balance between summer and winter in game. I love the seasonal colours and it just feels so cozy.

Your favourite holiday: Christmas! I’m admittedly get very much into it, love decorating the tree, making a yummy meal, just being with family, etc. For sims... I guess birthdays since I get very attached to my sims and seeing them grow up is always sweet. :’)

How was your day?: Eh. Can’t complain but I’m in a bit of a slump and not feeling very creative at the moment. Also very burnt out from playing World of Warcraft because there’s too much I need to keep on top of (and I just kinda want to play other games but I can’t ;_;)

Your favourite career: Medicine. I have multiple sims in medicine so... it’s always been the career that sticks out to me and one I’ve always enjoyed. Imagine my disappointment when TS4 released without it lol.

Your favourite aspiration: Family/Knowledge! Hard tie. I used to ALWAYS pick family when I was younger, because it was the ‘easiest’ aspiration for me to play when I loved doing legacies. However knowledge is my fav with all the expansions because of the supernatural stuff. ;)

Your favourite EP, GP and SP: 

Sims 1 - MAKIN’ MAGIC. Hands down. Best expansion. The amount of time I’d spend writing down spells and grinding for magical ingredients... especially that kid charm that allowed children to age up (that was practically a MUST) it was just so much fun.

Sims 2 - Apartment Life. For the solid reason that you can create mini-neighbourhoods by having an apartment lot and it brings some realism to the game. But honestly, all TS2 expansions are 10/10. Love them all.

Sims 3 - Love supernatural. Not everyone’s favourite, but I really enjoy playing supernaturals and this expansion just gave me what I needed. I really enjoyed fairies in particular. Hated the zombies tho. Sad they didn’t really get a proper occult state. 

Sims 4 - Honestly, all of them are very mediocre and I don’t have a favourite. :/

How old is your simblr?: I have no idea. I started my tumblr when it was still in beta, so however long ago that was. It would have been before ‘simblr’ was a thing and people were still on forums, because I only made a simblr as a place to post gameplay pics for myself since it was private for so long.

Have you WooHooed?: I’m ace so hell no lol.

Your favourite skill: I don’t know why but painting stands out to me. :3

I have a lot of favs, but I guess the Specht siblings since they were the family I primarily played in TS2 and I’ve recreated them in all the Sims games. :)

Which Sims games have you played (including mobile games)?: Sims 1, Sims 2, Sims 3, Sims 4, Sims 1 & 2 on PS2, Sims 2 Castaway, Sims 2 Life Stories, Sims 2 Castaway on PSP and MySims on Nintendo. Also played a Sim mobile game at one point but I can’t remember what it was?

Propose a crazy scheme: EA actually giving a shit about their game lol. The 20th anniversary speaks for itself. 

Best part of simblr: Just that it’s still so active across ALL games and people still make CC and mods and in general, people are so welcoming and nice. Just seeing the community together is so great and I love being able to like/reblog something without commenting because I’m extremely shy and introverted. That’s something I struggled with on forums. :( 

Worst part of simblr: People who think it’s a popularity contest. I mean yeah, it’s nice to get notes but I’ve always just posted my gameplay for myself. I can’t help but roll my eyes whenever I see people who get on average 20+ notes complain about not getting notes lol. I think that’s died down a bit but I still see it happen and I just have to wonder if people are here for sims or if they’re here for internet clout. 

What other games you play?: World of Warcraft, Pokemon, Overwatch, Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, 7 Days to Die, My Time at Portia, Zelda... a lot of games but those are the main ones. :)

When did you start playing Sims?

Back in 2008! It was The Sims DJ on my dad’s phone. I had a lot of fun creating my own tracks/mixes. There is this mixing studio where you combine 4 tracks (drums, bass, FX1, and FX2) and for each track, you choose sample songs from 6 genres (pop, rock, dance, earth, hiphop, and techno). I wrote down how I made every song on a notebook. My fave is my recreation of The Sims theme song xD

In 2009, when my brother and I got a PSP, I got myself TS2, then Castaway and Pets a year later. It was in 2013 that I finally got to play TS2 on the PC (◕▿◕✿)

Have you been playing consistently or do you have breaks inbetween?

I used to play it a lot, especially the ones on the PSP. In 2013, I played the whole summer, and didn’t touch it again until a year later xD

Nowadays, I just like browsing through other people’s games, downloading cc, and engaging with fellow simmers. I also have less free time now, so I usually take breaks.

Do your family & friends know that you play The Sims?

Definitely! I used to bring it up all the time. When we were choosing games for the PSP, my dad was the one who pointed out that the TS2 was in the catalogue and my mom sometimes asked me how my sims are doing. I also play the game with my brother or my cousin sometimes, and it’s hilarious. I even showed my gameplay pics to some of my friends back in high school and they seemed to enjoy it :D Some of them played the game as well.

Do you spend more time in build or live mode? Why?

Live mode for sure. I spend way too much time building stuff, and I usually end up scrapping what I made ;_;

Do you play with supernatural creatures (like Vampires, Werewolves etc.)? Why not?

Yes! I mostly have witches in my game, but I have all different creatures. Except for bigfoot. I remember when I first played Bon Voyage for the first time and I was shocked that my sims brought bigfoot with them? I was terrified and never played that family again (*≧▽≦)ﾉｼ))

Do you have one specific family you play with all the time (like a legacy of some sort) or do you rotate between a couple of households?

Neither. I just play whichever family I feel like playing ヽ(´･ω･`)､

Do you like to create your own neighborhoods or do you play with the existing families? Tell us about your progress :)

Both! I sometimes create a fresh hood or just create some sims and plop them down in a premade hood.

Do you create custom content? If so, what keeps you motivated? (If not, would you like to? What stops you from learning it? For players that don’t use mods, why do you stay away from CC?)

Yea? Just the simple ones though like CAS recolors and retextures. I sometimes feel the urge to create something like “I want this for my game!” or “I wanna make it, even though I have no use for it whatsoever!” 

If there was one piece of CC or (if you play without mods) one piece you wish the developers implemented, what would it be?

I wish they did more for the supernatural creatures like treating aliens as a separate life state, have fairies, mermaids, and have cool vampire/werewolf/witch battles.

What other expansion and/or accessories pack do you wish the developers would have come out with?

A very difficult question! Hmmm... maybe something like the ones that came out in TS3? There are so many things there that I really want for TS2 xD

Fun "What's in my Pocket" spread I did for Melty Mods

Since I’m a bit into the game (sorta) by now I figured I’d talk on the gameplay just a touch.

Putting it all out there since it’s obvious I keep making the callbacks.

I’m biased as heck. FFT is my favorite game, I’m gonna compare similar games, I’m gonna be slightly irked at first by anything that’s different until I accept those differences because I’m an idiot.

And with this being the predecessor or in some ways the prototype of FFT all those comparisons are a lot more relevant in my mind.

So with that out of the way I’ll say it. I prefer FFT. BUT. Not in the worst way possible. I am loving this playthrough- I feel like I’m playing a remix on FFT and it’s a blast. And it’s not all downgrades, to get that out of the way.

The game has some features that feel better than what FFT went with and a good chunk of features that are JUST BARELY not as good as FFT’s but are lacking in one way or another. That’s kind of the way of things with a game that was reincorporated into making FFT in the first place.

So with that bias and unwarranted ridicule out of the way let me point at some things as ‘better’ and ‘worse’. Not all things, just what’s on my mind at this point in the game.

In order of pics I suppose.

1) This is both a ‘better’ and a ‘more potential than actually being explored thus far’ and a ‘I just figured this out to be honest’. Equipment in FFT often have effects on top of raw stats. Not all, but pretty early on they start throwing a few things in. They get away with not making all early gear unique by virtue of having more stats to utilize like avoidance being on accessories and shields which is sorely missed in TO. That said, they do attempt to add effects to some gear to offset their stats and make you consider what you’ll bring.

And I didn’t expect some of the earliest options to include this line of reason but sure enough- some items give you a rank in some skills you could equip which is nice, on top of other effects that could be attached to gear. This is good. The prevalence this early on is good. It evolved into more in FFT but it being here is very good.

2) Unfortunately this leads into skills since those equipment often give points in skills. Skills. Kinda. Suck.

It’s obviously good in terms of adding a lot to the gameplay. But some of the decisions really make them feel less impressive. Namely, skills are class specific (duh) and transfer to only certain other classes (disappointing).

It makes sense on some levels, yada yada, class identity all that jazz. And in saying that I admit this is opinion in a way, but I’m looking at my preferences and how FFT handled it since that’s my metric for the best way to handle it. I get why it’s this way on some levels but it really REALLY hampers creativity and giving your units any sort of personality based on how you play them.

To lay it out- say, Rampart Aura. It’s a skill that makes it so enemies can’t walk past you and, ideally (but not because it’s pretty bad and there aren’t sufficient tools to make a character a ‘tank’ that draws fire) attacking that unit since they can’t walk past them.

You spend some sp, learn the skill, slap it on- it’s all well and good. But then you change to an archer and decide you want to keep that skill for some stupid reason. You can’t. You have it, sure, but you can’t USE it. It’s incompatible and that customization is taken from you.

Or more egregious- spells. Want to slap divine magic on some units so you have makeshift heals available without a dedicated cleric? Too bad! Most units can’t use it and some (like Vartan) CAN equip Divine magic but can ONLY cast the offensive spells instead of heal.

That specific tidbit gets under my skin a lot- having the Divine Magic skill or the Dark Magic skill doesn’t mean “Cast these spells” it means “Cast whichever cherry picked types of these spells this class can specifically support”.

Basically, in FFT, imagine equiping white magic on a thief and finding out they can only cast support spells like protect and shell despite having all the spells learned. It’s that- an arbitrary limiter on what you can do with cross-class interactions meant to make each individual class seem more empowered- but it just feels like all classes can’t do jack because every class can do like 1 thing.

Sorry for bad train of thought, but also the Vartan guy you end up with is grade A I like him.

3) I’ll speed things along- the equipment screen sucks. Stats aren’t as expansive as I’d like, equipping anything is a mess where you click “Equip” “Slot” “Type of equipment” “The Equipment” and now you’ve got that one slot done and couldn’t compare it effectively with all the options you had. Messy. I don’t recall the original version being better or worse so it’s something this psp version could have improved on.

4) Buying stuff! Kinda sucks! No fitting room like FFT, you buy thing and equip/compare thing LATER in your bag. It works too much like oldschool FF games where you go to the shop and just buy things to equip later- in a tactical game this is a pain. Having to look at the item, look at its stats, hold square and scroll to see what classes can equip it, try to remember what said class has equipped now, buy it or not.

It’s messy as hell.

5) And finally, as implied earlier, the classes are really kind of a disappointment because of the way skills work.

Like, as a whole, it’s because of that. Classes rarely learn anything valuable to another class, so you don’t really change around to learn those skills. Classes don’t bring too much to the table on their own, likely because a lack of transfer skills would mean 1 strong class would become the only class that matters. And all of them feel kind of one note because, again, lack of interesting skills and lack of transfer skills.

Warrior can spend tp to hit harder. Archer can spend tp to shoot harder. Wizards have spells. Clerics can heal. Rune can heal too AND hit so screw clerics. Knights can heal too AND hit AND are supposedly tanks but the ai and skill choices don’t really make this applicable but otherwise screw clerics. Terror knights can debuff and hit things. Berserkers can hit all forward tiles ahead of them in a pattern like this I believe it was

XXX XOX with the o being them, they spend tp to do this once btw. Dragoon learn specific tp costing skills that raise their attack against various monster types like beasts or dragons, basically they just hit things. Ninjas can dual wield and swing both weapons (Good!) Rogues can backstab (Good!) along with other thief like skills and even laying traps?! Beast Tamers just learn alternative recruit spells to bring in beasts and dragons and then empower them by spending tp to buff them- the whole beast thing seems too convoluted since it seems like tamers or otherwise buffing the beasts is needed for them to carry their weight.

And there are more classes I’ve yet to unlock but reading on them it isn’t too much we haven’t seen. Better mages, raising undead which sounds interesting, a dancer/bard equivalent.

Most classes simplify down to one action that is usually “Hit thing” or “I cast this type of spell” and that’s a little disheartening when FFT usually gave you a ton of options per class AND the ability to mix and match these skills on your units so you end up with a powerful spellcaster tossing damage and heals or a ninja monk or an archer time mage.

I’m sure I sound aggressively against all this- but no.

I get why, it’s a pretty incredible title for its time and it lead to FFT in the first place, I’m just seeing where some of the ideas didn’t pan out or where some of the ideas first started and would later evolve. And it’s REALLY fun in it’s own bubble- but I’d be lying if it mostly just makes me want some of the cut threads modded into FFT so FFT was even bigger.

Toss in ninjitsu into FFT as an alternative to thrown weapons! Ninjitsu in this game is basically the sword arts from samurai in FFT but who cares, give it to us twice!

Give Mediators more buffing abilities like what beast tamer apparently gets!

But there’s some overly critical of a breakthrough title nonsense from me that very few if any will have the patience to read. **I DON’T BLAME YOU LOL**
